Blog Chat Etiquette

Be Patient

Give the room a chance to answer you. Patience is a virtue. And if after awhile, people don't respond, perhaps they don't know the answer or they did not see your question. Do ask again or address someone directly. Do not be offended if people do not or are unable to respond to you.

Wesak Day, or Vesak Day, is the day that Buddha Shakyamuni was born, gained enlightenment and entered clear light. For Buddhists all over the world, it is a day to celebrate the Buddha’s teachings, ie. the Buddha Dharma. It is also to remind us of the potential that we can all achieve by following in the footsteps of Buddha Shakyamuni, which is enlightenment.

Wesak Day is the most holiest time in the Buddhist calendar. The word Wesak comes from the Sinhalese language, “Visakha”, the name of the 2nd month of the lunar Hindu calendar.

Different countries may celebrate Wesak Day in different ways… but many people celebrate it by offering flowers, joss sticks, candles and other personal offerings to the Buddhas. Temples all around the world carry out their own services and activities… and it’s also very common for many to liberate animals on that day, as well as going on a vegetarian diet.

When you have finished reading, may I humbly ask you to click on the link and sign this petition. Please STOP THE BOILING OF ANIMALS AND THE PAIN IT CAUSES. This shocks me to the core and I have no words to express the deep pain and sorrow. I beg you with folded hands to take 5 minutes and sign the petition. There are very kind people organizing this petition making it easy for us to do something about these horrendous and unnecessary acts of barbarism. We can stop this and we can. Please in all your humanity, sign the petition and share this article EVERYWHERE to create awareness.

Sometimes dharma talks may touch something sensitive or deep within us, but do not be stuck on the superficial meanings and changes required, but think deeper.

Dharma is not something to fear or to judge yourself by but for inner contemplations. To help you to have knowledge to be honest with yourself. To find who you really are and who your potential can be.

Dharma is hope. Dharma is light. Dharma is the way of wisdom. Dharma is peace. Dharma is for those who wish peace and need a way to find it.

Dharma is for all those who thirst for more in life than just the mundane daily actions.

Dharma is for finding a way of life that can change your life for the better.

Dharma can never harm nor bring damage. Never.

Dharma was intended by Buddha to benefit. And it will benefit if you try.

    (Monday, May 4. 2015 04:18 PM)
    May 4, 2015 @ 5:05am (GMT 8+) PART 2

Outside Kathmandu, search and rescue work has largely been carried out by local police and troops.
Assessments of 2,500 buildings carried out by more than 1,000 local engineers during the last four days have revealed that a fifth of the buildings in Kathmandu are no longer habitable.

Three-quarters need repairs before they can be considered safe. The engineers took a random sample so as to make it representative of the city as a whole. Their results are still pending a full and thorough final assessment.

In Sindhulpalchowk District, Gorkha District, Dolakha District and Sindhuli District, local officials say they have met less than 20% of the demand of the people in terms of relief aid. They are facing difficulties reaching affected areas due to a lack of vehicles and helicopters.

Residents continue to complain of aid being slow to reach them, especially in the most remote villages which were already difficult to access before the quake.

There is nowhere near enough helicopters to distribute the amount of aid necessary in the remote areas.

Nepal is appealing to foreign governments for more helicopters. There are currently about 20 Nepalese army, private and Indian army helicopters involved in rescue operations. (Source: Home Affairs Ministry)
In Pauwathok Village in Sidhulpalchowk District, residents continue to stay under makeshift shelters made of tarpaulins. These were obtained only after residents sat in the middle of the road Friday and blocked an aid convoy that eventually gave 30 to them.

As a result, volunteers have begun stepping in to fill the void. Over the weekend, a truck full of rice, noodles and medical supplies arrived at Pauwathok. It had been organised by a teacher who went for help to Kathmandu, where he collected donations from charities and friends.

On the road to Chautara, the district centre of Sindhupalchowk, many pick-up trucks, private cars and even motorbikes were loaded with basic foodstuffs, blankets, clothes and bedding rolls. Local shopkeepers across the worst affected areas say they have been giving away their stocks on credit, though it was unlikely they will ever be repaid by farmers whose valuables and livestock lay under tonnes of rubble.

In Swarathok Village, Rashmiti Shashtra, a 23-year old public health student, organised the cremation and after-quake care of her village. After holding funerals on Monday, the 83 householders started organising. Shashtra made a list of survivors and convinced them to pool scant food stocks they had salvaged from their wrecked home, worked out how much each household could have each day, and distributed vital remaining kitchen utensils.

Official death toll is now over 7,250 in Nepal alone. Over 15,000 are reported injured. (Source: The Guardian)

The death toll in the Sindhupalchowk district alone stands at 2,560 (compared with approximately 1,622 in Kathmandu). The UN says up to 90% of houses in Sindhupalchowk have been destroyed.

In the northern Rasuwa district, a Nepalese police team has retrieved the bodies of about 50 people, including some foreign trekkers, from an area hit by landslides.

Despite ruling out further survivors on Saturday, today a 101-year old man was rescued from the rubble of his home seven days after the earthquake. He suffered only minor injuries.

Nepal Police also rescued three women from beneath rubble on Sunday in Sindhupalchowk, one of the districts worst hit by the quake, although it was not immediately known how long they had been trapped.

Another two men and a woman were pulled from the rubble near Syauli village earlier this week, though it is not immediately clear which day they were rescued.

A total of 54 foreign nationals have been killed, including 38 Indians, three Americans, one Briton and one French citizen.

Chief of the Tourism Department estimates the death toll of foreigners will increase; in Langtang Valley which is completely wiped away, at least 109 foreigners are missing.

Tribhuvan Airport has banned airliner jets weighing more than 196 tonnes because its runway is deteriorating under the strain. The airport only has parking space for nine jets, and reports are emerging of cracks on the runway.

More than 4,000 foreigners from 34 countries have flown in to assist with search and rescue operations.

The Home Affairs Ministry says they are now sending back foreign specialist search teams as “there are no pressures of rescuing now” (Source: The Guardian).

    For tk –

    Dear tk,

Thank you for your question. It is true that there is divine protection and there is no doubt about it. The question here though is not to doubt the divine protection, but to understand how all beings are governed by our individual and collective karma. No divine can stop our negative karma from ripening including the Buddha Himself.

When Shakyamuni Buddha was alive, He has clairvoyance and knew that Prince Virudhaka was going to massacre the Shakya clan. He went to the Prince three times to talk him out of his cruel intention, but the Prince’s intention was always rekindled. On the fourth time, the Buddha knew that the Shakya clan cannot get away from this fate, but His disciple Maudgalyayana who had great spiritual powers insisted on using his powers and hid the Shakya clan into his alms bowl. Maudgalyayana was shocked to find that all in his bowl still died later. It was only then that he realised that we cannot avoid from the ripening of our bad karma.

So when unfortunate things happened, even in holy place, it is not due to the ineffectiveness of the divine protection, but the ripening of the people’s bad karma in that place. His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche gave a wonderful teaching on karma which I feel will benefit you. Please watch/read it here http://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/discovering-yourself-a-teaching-on-karma-mindstream.html.

    Dear Rinpoche,

Recently,I found the young generation and also most of the parents only concern and enjoy what they are having now. They do not believe in reincarnation and karma. They just believe the things in front of them and nothing will happened afterwards. Sometimes, they will advise me not to think too much and just enjoy the moment. I feel sad when listen it.

Anyway, I’m glad to see more pastors have been ordained in Kechara. Congratulations to all the Kechara Pastors. I humbly hope that they will become a good example and guidance for us to learn the dharma and involve in dharma work. The most important is continue to spread the dharma which will benefit to more people everywhere.

    Thank you.

    Your humbly,
    Alice Tay

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

This person in the picture with me is a very humble, kind and knowledgable senior monk. I have the great merits to be considered his friend. He has been very kind to me on many occasions. I have the deepest respects for him and he has been serving others for nearly 40 years as the personal authorized oracle of Dorje Shugden, Kache Marpo, Setrap, Shidak Gyenze. He was trained up as a monk oracle by His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and Kyabje Domo Geshe Rinpoche. He is fully qualified and benefits many with his oracular abilities. You can see him here in full trance in the monastery with hundreds of monks and people: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Xbghs-mdNc I thank Dorje Shugden for appearing in oracles to speak to us and I thank this oracle monk for his services. The authentic and beneficial oracle tradition of Tibet is 1,000 year old. Tsem Rinpoche

I've always not felt comfortable reading on computer screen for over a decade now. When I do, I feel I am slower. I thought it's just me, studies show it's most people. I am always faster and more efficient and catch more things when items are printed out for me. I enjoy books much more than reading online. I dread reading on the phone. I am super slow.Nice little trivia that affirms my habit.

Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche & Kyabje Ling Rinpoche doing Lama Chöpa in Bodhgaya in the 60s
In the 1960s, H.H. Yongzin Kyabje Ling Rinpoche would always organize Lama Chöpa (Guru puja-composed by Panchen Rinpoche) with 1000 offerings in Bodhgaya and would often be joined in by H.H. Yongzin Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche, and sometimes the 16th Karmapa would even join in. Wonderful. Watch this blessed and old footage of the two Yongzins doing Lama Chöpa in Bodhgaya. Yongzin is the special title to those who were the root and close teachers of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. There were two official Yongzins. Trijang Rinpoche and Ling Rinpoche were the Yongzins of the current Dalai Lama for over 40 years living nearby to Dalai Lama and passing him all the teachings necessary. They were extremely kind and giving all necessary teachings, empowerments and oral transmissions that Dalai Lama is disseminating to the world today to millions. That year, she was on a quest for spiritual guidance in India and met a Buddhist monk named Tsem Rinpoche. Read more here: http://www.bbc.com/news/business-29986205

I just purchased an empty locket from an art store for around $10 and had a nice picture of His Holiness Kyabje Zong Rinpoche inserted in the front and His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche inserted on the others side at home. Attached a str...ing and it's good to wear for blessings. Look how beautiful. I am the type, I devote myself to my practice but I remember it is the sole kindness of the guru's teachings. Without the guru there is no dharma at all as I cannot speak to Buddha directly. Tsem Rinpoche

The Girl Who Couldn't Cry - Water is Life
It's really hard to educate a generation of people born in conditions where they take things for granted. A simple slogan campaign that says, "Save water, It's precious" isn't sticky enough to make inroads. That's exactly where this video steps in: to make people realize how precious water actually is. A brilliant video that follows the heartbreaking story of a young girl that cannot cry. Sounds like fiction? Sadly, it is not.
