Deity: Avalokiteshvara Simhananda (Sanskrit)
Alternative name: Chenrezig Sengetra (Tibetan)
Avalokiteshvara is a popular archetypal bodhisattva in the Sutras, in which he strives towards enlightenment. Within the teachings of Vajrayana Buddhism, Avalokiteshvara is said to be a Buddha who attained full enlightenment during a previous aeon, only to manifest as a bodhisattva on the spiritual path to inspire and bless many in our current aeon. Within the Sutras and Tantras, Avalokiteshvara is known by many names including Lokeshvara, Avalokita, Lokanatha and Mahakarunika. He is famously considered one of the Eight Great Bodhisattva Disciples of Buddha Shakyamuni and for his landmark sermon at the behest of Buddha Shakyamuni, as narrated in the Heart Sutra.

The Sanskrit honorific ‘arya’ meaning ‘noble’ or ‘noble one’ is often used at the beginning of the name for each of the Eight Great Bodhisattvas as well as notable enlightened beings such as Tara. Arya Avalokiteshvara, known as Chenrezig in Tibet, is the patron Bodhisattva of Tibet and is still widely revered and worshipped throughout the Mahayana Buddhist world. Within Tibetan Buddhism, there are many lineages of various forms of Avalokiteshvara that span all four classes of Tantra alongside numerous other oral traditions and terma (treasure teaching) traditions that have arisen within the Nyingma order.

Amongst the great Indian and Tibetan masters who proliferated the practice of Avalokiteshvara are Jowo Atisha, Bari Lotsawa, Mitra Yogin, Machig Labdron, Kyergangpa, Tsembupa, and so forth. It is said that the Indian master Jowo Atisha promoted the practice of Avalokiteshvara as one of the most important and thus, the deity is widely practised as one of the Four Deities of the Kadampa order which arose from Jowo Atisha’s teachings. In fact, Avalokiteshvara is also linked to the creation myth of the Tibetan people. He is said to have emanated as a monkey and mated with a demoness who is said to have been an emanation of Tara. Their offspring became the Tibetan race.

There are four popular forms of Avalokiteshvara that are more commonly practised than others and they are Sahasrabhuja, Amoghapasha, Chaturbhuja and Simhananda. The practice of Avalokiteshvara Simhananda is one of Thirteen Golden Dharmas of the Sakya tradition. It is regarded as an important practice within the order and descends down through great masters such as Sachen Kunga Nyingpo (1092-1158 CE). The practice originated in India, from ancient masters such as Chandragomin and Suvarnadvipa. It then entered Tibet in the 11th Century through the efforts of Rinchen Zangpo, Jowo Atisha, Bari Lotsawa Rinchen Drag and others. This practice is now found in all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

Historically, Avalokiteshvara Simhananda was also proliferated in Mongolia and China by Sakya Pandita Kunga Gyaltsen (1182-1251 CE) after he healed Goden Khan of leprosy using the special healing rituals of the deity. Avalokiteshvara Simhananda is propitiated particularly in rituals to appease nagas, serpentine-like beings who are depicted in the image as making offerings to Avalokiteshvara. Therefore rituals and pujas associated with Avalokiteshvara Simhananda have a healing effect on those with skin conditions like leprosy, cancer and other related illnesses which are commonly believed to be caused by nagas. Furthermore, these rituals are also used in the offering of torma (ritual cakes) and incense to appease nagas as they are partial towards the great compassion of Avalokiteshvara.

Deity: Chenrezig Ngesung Kundrol (Tibetan)
The name ‘Chenrezig Ngesung Kundrol’ literally means ‘Avalokiteshvara Who Liberates From the Three Lower Realms’. This practice derives from a lineage that stems from the Mahasiddha Mitrayogin and comprises of a trinity of deities with Avalokiteshvara in the central position, sitting in a posture of royal ease with his left hand pressed down behind him on his moon disc. Green Tara sits to his left and the wrathful black Ekajati on his right. His practice is one that protects practitioners from taking rebirth in the lower realms for one lifetime as long as they maintain their commitments. Usually, the commitments involve a daily recitation of one mala (rosary) of OM MANI PEME HUNG. Alternatively, it involves whatever sadhana or mantra commitment is stipulated by the lama at the time of initiation into the practice.

Deity: Chenrezig Migchey (Tibetan)
‘Chenrezig Migchey’ literally means ‘Eye-Clearing Avalokiteshvara’ and this lineage arose from a Hidden Treasure (terma) teaching of the Nyingma order. It was originally revealed by Nyangral Nyima Ozer in the 12th Century. However, many masters from the Kagyu, Sakya and Gelug orders have since composed their own ritual and sadhana liturgies dedicated to this form of Chenrezig. Within Tibet, this practice was widely disseminated throughout Southern Tibet and from there it spread to Mongolia. In fact, one of the largest statues of this deity lies in Ganden Monastery of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. It is said that the popularity of this practice in 20th Century Mongolia was due to the teachings of His Holiness the 8th Jebtsundamba Khutughtu, who was the third most important personage in Tibetan Buddhism below only the Dalai Lama and the Panchen Lama. This form of Chenrezig is said to remove ignorance and bestow the direct perception of emptiness (shunyata). On an ordinary level, this deity is very beneficial in relieving ailments of the eye.

Deity: Dorje Shugden (Tibetan)
Alternative name: Vajra Rudra (Sanskrit)
Dorje Shugden is a Dharma Protector that has been propitiated by all four major Tibetan Buddhist schools. Dorje Shugden is recognised to be an emanation of Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom. In fact, Dorje Shugden arose from a long line of incarnated lamas who strove to proliferate and protect the teachings. He is a protector of recent origins, arising 350 years ago, and due to his strong affinity with beings of this time, he is widely renowned to be efficacious and powerful in overcoming our obstacles and creating favourable conditions for our practice.

If it is possible to plan the rice cooker it means
that you may set the cooker to turn off at a time so the

Beautiful thangka of Avalokiteshvara Simhananda with Chenrezig Ngesung Kundrol, Migchey Chenrezig, and Dorje Shugden. Avalokiteshvara is beloved throughout the Buddhist world. The practice of Avalokiteshvara been practised by both great Indian and Tibetan masters. The rituals and pujas related with Avalokiteshvara Simhananda has benefited many people who has skin conditions like leprosy, cancer and other related illnesses which are commonly believed to be caused by nagas.
Thank you Rinpoche for this brief sharing of Avalokiteshvara Simhananda.

In powerful naga pujas , we invoke the compassionate Avalokiteshvara Simhananda, the embodiment of compassion, to appease the nagas who are partial towards Avalokiteshvara’s compassion.By thus appeasing the nagas, through the invoking of this compassionate Buddha, naga-related diseases, particularly skin diease are healed. How powerful is the compassion of Avalokiteshvara!

Avalokiteshvara Simhananda. A form of Avalokiteshvara connected with removing illness caused by nagas. Sakya Pandita Kunga Gyaltsen was very kind to spread this practice to Mongolia and China. Sakya Pandita Kunga Gyaltsen healed Goden Khan of leprosy using the special healing rituals of this deity. ?
I’ve lost track of how many emanations of Chenrezig has but his compassion knows no bounds.

The Buddha of Compassion has many forms. Avalokiteshvara Simhananda (Sanskrit) is to cure naga related diseases and purify negative emotions as a result of non virtuous karmic activities and deeds. During the time of the great Mongol Empire, the Emperor Goden Khan fell ill from Naga disease. Sakya Pandita, one of the founding Master of the Sakya, and who was also the spiritual adviser. Sakya Pandita then performed the Simhananda Puja with great effect curing the Emperor. From that time onwards, Sakya Pandita was well respected by all.

An agreement for living together by mutual consent is a marriage vow . As a similar line of thought, we believe all actual facts and in reality how and why Dorje Shugden arosed. Dorje Shugden arosed as our enlightened Dharma Protector as promised to protects the Dharma teachings. It’s a commitment between Dorje Shugden and Gelugpa lineage for more then 400 years, still going stronger despite all those lies , controversy the Tibetan Leadership trying to create. The Tibetan Leadership is trying to break this strong relationship with all the allegations on Dorje Shugden. Many highly attained lamas and masters had propitiated for Dorje Shugden for years . They cannot be wrong in their practice after all. Dorje Shugde is not a devil or spirits as claimed by some. HH Dalai Lama already said its does not harm and we can practice. With the recent speech in India at Bodhgaya on 2nd January 2020, HH dalai Lama also said that if people wish to practise Dorje Shugden as a birth deity or land god (Tibetan: kye lha yul lha), THAT WOULD BE FINE.
Thank you Seow Choong Liang for the wonderful analogy to understand better.

Buddhist Temples of Siem Reap , Cambodia is amazing filled with incredible architecture, Khmer Culture. The beautiful temples in Siem Reap is a must-see place when visiting. Buddhist Temples in Siem Reap each year attracted millions of visitors, especially those in the expansive Angkor Archeological Park. Well listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1992, there are about 50 Buddhist and Hindu temples dating back to the 12th century within its grounds. Simply amazing to see but I have not been there yet. Would wish to see for myself those beautiful ancient architectural temples.
Looking at those beautiful pictures paints a thousands words. So many Buddhist temples to visit .

He is one of the greatest orientalists, linguists, and encyclopedists of the century. Inspiring of a man who could speak fluently more than 30 European and Asian languages and dialects . He was a brilliant expert in Eastern culture, religion and philosophy , having spent more than 35 years abroad living in India, Mongolia ,Tibet and . As a distinguished encyclopedic-scientist, he was well known in many countries around the world. Very rare and precious video , to see how much affection between our Lama and Dorje Shugden was. Its not planned and of a sudden , during Rinpoche visit to that monastery and hotel, Dorje Shugden taking trance . According to the practices of Tibetan Buddhism, there are several ways to induce the trance state including dancing and music. But this was different as Rinpoche was at the monastery, a monk sudden went into trance . In the hotel an oracle monk-in-training took spontaneous trance too. While in trance, Dorje Shugden suddenly entered the oracle-monk in both occasion. Its a blessing able to see the oracles from the video.
Thank you Rinpoche and Martin for this sharing .

Beautiful Ganden Sumtseling Monastery, built in 1679, is the largest Gelug Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan province. Known as little Potala to many locals and tourist. Well this magnificent group builidngs of the monastery is so simply amazing. The main structure built in Tibetan style has a gold-covered copper roof similar to the one at the Potala Monastery in Lhasa. I was there few years back , looking at it is a blessing. It looks like a castle, a walled complex with group buildings including living quarters for monks and high lamas. I was so fortunate when I was there the monks were doing prayers . Listening to the prayers , with joy then in a tranquil place to dwell my soul.Offered some offerings to those beautiful Buddhas statues. Ganden Sumtseling Monastery, a hot destination in Yunnan, have been attracting thousands of locals and tourist yearly. A place worthy visiting and going on pilgrimage.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this heart-warming story . Well it is Dorje Shugden that showed Rinpoche to this Phelgyeling Monastery of all the monasteries at Kathmandu. Unplanned stop at the monastery led to meeting with an old kind monk. Rinpoche ‘s connection with Dorje Shugden was so strong and deep that it lead Rinpoche to the monastery that happens to practise Dorje Shugden. Wow… it must be from previous lives’ imprints that in this life, when Rinpoche needed help most at that odd hours, Dorje Shugden came calling. Rinpoche remembered that kind monk not knowing his name till in 2018 ,Rinpoche found out his name Gelong Tamdrin. Rinpoche’s student were at Kathmandu and were granted an audience with Gelong Tamdrin during which Rinpoche was able to reconnect and make offerings to him. Such a beautiful moments . Looking at those beautiful pictures tell all.

Thank you Pastor Jean Ai for this heart felt article which tells us the other side of our lama Tsem Rinpoche. Rinpoche caring, loving and compassionate relationship with some of the close students will be remembered a long long time. I have heard beautiful stories of Rinpoche spending great moments together with them. Rinpoche hugged , loved , joked , scolded, teased , giving teachings in Dharma to name a few. At times tough too , sitting on the same table with Rinpoche. I could imagined that situation.
I am fortunate to have met Rinpoche last July with my friends unexpectedly, first at the Gyzene Chapel and later in the audience room. For me meeting Rinpoche for the very first time had me speechless, cold sweat but feeling blessed, and happiness. Words cannot describe how happy I am ,to meet a living Buddha. Meeting Rinpoche has changed my life and many of us in the group that met Rinpoche. Rinpoche’s compassion , caring, loving and for most his teachings had inspired me. I am deeply grateful for all the profound teachings, and many more to go from the blog.
Rinpoche’s life would have been very, VERY different…..agree with Pastor. During Rinpoche’s parinirvana the many monks came all the way from across the globe has showed us Rinpoche was a special Lama and well known by many . May Rinpoche have a swift return , all of us are looking forward to meet you again.

Very touching article, at the age of learning to understand things and happily play around, the poor little girl has lost her legs in an accident. The tragedy tremendously changes the faith of the girl. I felt very sad to see the photos of the little girls moving around with an old basketball and the wooden pads.

Life would have been very challenging and though for their parents to lift the little girl up. What puzzled me was her attitude, she didn’t see fear and obstacles in her disability, she was brave, strong all the way irony of life to face of great adversity and became successful athlete. I believe God was with her, push her to the right path to achieve her goals and to bring her happiness throughout her life.

Thank you for the great inspiring sharing. However we cannot avoid the unexpected events in our lives because it is these events that challenge our complacency in life.

Thank you very much for the good article. From this, I feel that the devotion, respect and faith will arise spontaneously and effortlessly. We must learn to see the good qualities of other, even though we may have received only harms.
The story about calling the adoptive mother is a very good example of how by having guru devotion, following the guru’s instruction we are able to get ourselves out of suffering and become a better person.

Beautiful shrine of Rinpoche’s , merely by looking at it is a blessing. Fortunate to have the opportunity to see it such a stunning precious shrine . With lots of offerings and so much precious items as well. It gives me great insight on how to make more offerings to generate more merits. We can offer anything we consider beautiful on the altar. Making offerings is part of the practice of Buddhism. Making offerings to the Three Jewels is a wonderful daily practice for us. We have to cultivate a generous attitude and delight in giving to start the day, which becomes the cause to have happiness in the future. Making offerings is a practice for accumulating positive potential and for purifying clinging and miserliness. I will do my best to offer more on my altar. Good watch of those videos and still learning from it.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

H H Dalai Lama strongly discourages Tibetan Buddhists from propitiating Dorje Shugden as claimed to be evil. The propitiation of Dorje Shugden has been controversial throughout its history causing disharmony in various parts of Tibet, and between various Tibetan communities. Over the last two decades, negative speeches against Dorje Shugden were said. But time has changed for the better. Quite recently, HH Dalai Lama was at Bodhgaya on 2nd January 2020, said that if people wish to practise Dorje Shugden as a birth deity or land god (Tibetan: kye lha yul lha), THAT WOULD BE FINE.
Wow…..Great news for us and across the globe for Dorje Shugden practitioners when H H Dalai Lama said openly about Dorje Shugden . HH Dalai Lama was with as many as thousands of lay people, monks and nuns from over 70 countries. It cannot be wrong this time, thousands heard it as they have been waiting anxiously just to hear Dalai Lama’s speech and teachings.H.H Dalai Lama has made it clear, is a matter for the individual. H H Dalai Lama being an emanation of the Buddha of Compassion, must have realised that Dorje Shugden is not harmful after all and that the Tibetan leadership could have been wrong about the total ban all this while. This is the second time H H Dalai Lam has said that it is fine to rely on Dorje Shugden. May Dalai Lama let bygones be bygones for the benefits of all practitioners. With folded hands thank you His Holiness for speaking with compassion, for a better peaceful and harmonious world.
Thank you blog teams for such a wonderful news.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
