Bigfoot is always here with me like he was in Tibet in another time. ~ Tsem Rinpoche

Why Bigfoot?

Since young, I have been fascinated by Bigfoot. I would read and watch everything related to Bigfoot as a child. Though my schedule is a little busier nowadays, I still try to keep up with the latest news and read about this favourite topic of mine whenever I can.

Bigfoots, also known as Yetis or Sasquatches, have been part of the culture of Tibet, Mongolia, Nepal, Bhutan, North India and Western Russia since the beginning of their respective histories. In Nepal, Bigfoots are called Yetis. In Tibetan, they are called Migurs. The Himalayan folks talk about Bigfoots as part and parcel of their land and existence, and sightings are common. To them, Bigfoots are just like any other animals they have spotted for generations over many centuries in the areas they live.

BC17

Some of Tibetan lamas in the monastery told me that certain Bigfoots delivered messages from one lama to another. In return, they would receive food from the lamas. It seems that Bigfoots are tamed and calm around highly evolved Tibetan holy masters. Just like the St. Bernards dogs in Switzerland that were trained to find avalanche victims and carrier pigeons, it is definitely possible for Bigfoots to carry messages on paper from one high lama to another as normal transport was difficult in the immensely vast Himalayan regions, and Bigfoots can traverse great mountainous distances effortlessly.

One of my previous incarnation’s disciples told my students that I too used Bigfoots as messengers to send messages to masters or students in distant places because Bigfoots were quick. Other lamas, such as Kyabje Domo Geshe Rinpoche was known to do the same. Perhaps this explains my fascination with Bigfoot since I was a child. Hence, for me, Bigfoots represent the dissemination of Dharma as I have used Bigfoots to bring Dharma to people in my previous life. It is my wish that the Buddhadharma can be propagated in the Bentong township and everyone who visits our store, and so I decided to name this store Bigfoot.

The Bigfoot Store’s Chapel

BC9

On the busy street of Jalan Ah Peng, between many varied businesses, is the ever vibrant and inviting Bigfoot store. You can find many spiritual items at the store, such as incense, holy images, protection amulets and many more. At the entryway, there is a small Dorje Shugden chapel with a 5 feet (1.5 metres) tall Dorje Shugden. Sharing the same space is a 7 feet (2.1 metres) tall wood carved Bigfoot statue in the iconic bigfoot ‘Patty’ pose, recognisable all around the world.

Thousands of people have visited the chapel to pray, to make offerings or just to drop by for a visit. It has become one of the must-visit attractions in Bentong. Many visitors have shared tales of how their wishes were fulfilled and they returned to the chapel from time to time to pray. Some of them told us that they struck the lottery and their immediate financial problems were solved, some shared that their loved ones recovered from their sickness or misfortunes, some spoke about their successful business deals or employment, and many more simply told us that they are more positive, hopeful and optimistic after they came across Dorje Shugden in this little chapel.

BC3

From the Bigfoot store chapel, some even drove to Kechara Forest Retreat to pay homage at our special wish fulfilling Gyenze chapel, our outdoor Dorje Shugden shrine and made candle offering to the various Buddhas on the Holy Walk route. The Holy Walk features ten holy sites of ten Buddhas, each bestowing special blessings of protection, healing, purification and the fulfilment of wishes.

Trance & Paying Homage

There are many Chinese and Indian temples in Bentong. In the temples, mediums are common within the Chinese and Indian culture as they play a pivotal role in the temples, taking trance of various gods, goddesses and beings.

Taking trance of deities such as wealth gods, Sin Sze Si Ya, other Taoist and Hindu deities, or local deities of a particular area, these mediums are very much relied upon for advice, creating talismans, blessings, and healing rituals. In these cultures, mediums are also consulted for purposes of dispelling sorcery or black magic, spiritual protection, improving wealth, and enhancing relations. These mediums continue to be relied on today by Bentong folks.

BC16

Every year, during the first and seventh months of the Chinese lunar calendar, the Wealth God temple in Kampung Perting and the Indian temples in Bentong organise processions of the Taoist and Hindu deities in Bentong town. Various statues of gods and entourages, deemed to be the dwelling places or perhaps access portals of deities in the human world, are placed on adorned vehicles that parade through town to bless the town and people. Mediums of these gods take trance and walk together with their devotees, blessing the public along the streets. To show the presence of the gods in trance, some of the mediums pierced their cheeks with long metal skewers throughout the event. This has been a tradition of Bentong for many years.

As the mediums walked by during the recent procession, without being prompted or told, the mediums in trance of the gods themselves purposely stopped and paid homage to Dorje Shugden while passing the Bigfoot store. When they did that, Dorje Shugden blessed the gods to take a good rebirth where they can practice Dharma and liberate themselves after they die. There are many level of gods, but whatever level they are, they also have limited lifespans although very long. Some gods can live thousands of years before they pass away to take rebirth. Clearly, the gods saw the high-level nature of Dorje Shugden and perceived His presence in the shrine at Bigfoot. It showed us that these gods who took trance are perhaps of the positive nature because they showed respect to Dorje Shugden. Gods and ethereal entities with negative natures would run or leave fast as they would want to avoid Dorje Shugden or be afraid of him. Dorje Shugden is a very powerful being and method to dispel negative spirits and protect us from them. Many invoke Dorje Shugden to rid themselves successfully of harmful spirits and invoke his continued protection. However, Dorje Shugden blesses humans, gods and all beings in existence. So definitely those gods who take trance and pay homage to Dorje Shugden at Bigfoot will receive his powerful blessings and plant karmic seeds for a better rebirth in the future. Dorje Shugden is an emanation of Manjushri, so the blessings from Manjushri Dorje Shugden will be very potent.

Bentong, just like many parts of Malaysia, is a melting pot of various ethnic groups that include the Malays, Chinese, Indians and many others. It is wonderful that the different ethnic groups respect each others’ religions, and live side by side in harmony. It is this harmony that has allowed us the honour to offer this beautiful chapel to the Bentong people whom we find are friendly, helpful, easy going and warm. We enjoy being a part of the Bentong town, and they cooperate with us very much for accomplishing beneficial work. This Dorje Shugden chapel at Bigfoot is just one among many chapels we build around Malaysia as we would like many to be blessed and protected by Dorje Shugden.

BC20

BC21

Although Bentong is relatively small in size, it is a hidden gem with some interesting places to explore and also a must-visit food mecca in Malaysia. Labelled the first “Fresh Air Lung Washing” destination in the country, you can find a hot spring, a waterfall, and enjoy recreational activities among nature, all in Bentong. Famous for its Bentong ginger, Musang King durians and ‘taufu pok’ (fried tofu puffs), Bentong has many more delicacies to offer. People from all over Malaysia, Singapore and China would make special trips, usually in groups to Bentong to savour durians and enjoy our friendly little town, as well as dropping by our quaint little Bigfoot store and its Dorje Shugden chapel. I welcome you to Bentong, and I hope you will have a wonderful trip.

About Bentong Town

Bentong town as it is known today was established in the late 19th century. The district of Bentong has been around for a long time and was known as ‘Kapong’ prior to World War I (1914). Bentong’s economy was primarily driven by tin mining and other related businesses of the mining industry up until the 1940s. Stepping into the 21st century, Bentong has gradually transformed itself from a primary sector economy dominated by small-scale agricultural and mining enterprises to a multifaceted, year-round economy which focuses on tourism and other service industries. This notable transformation has contributed to rising living standards for local residents. Today, Bentong is a diverse and vibrant community which embraces modernism without forgetting its rich history.

Location

It is approximately 80 kilometres (49.71 miles) northeast of the capital city, Kuala Lumpur, just across the Titiwangsa Mountain range. Visitors can easily reach the town via an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur. Therefore, Bentong is a perfect getaway from bustling city life.

Administratively, the Bentong district covers an area of 1,831 square kilometres (706.9 square miles) and includes the towns of Bentong, Genting Highlands, Karak, Telemong, Manchis, Sungai Dua and Bukit Tinggi.

Although Bentong is a relatively small town, it has all modern conveniences and amenities draped amidst a backdrop of the past. Many buildings in Bentong are over a century old but they are mostly well-maintained and authentically preserved. This is truly a town where history meets modernity.

Bigfoot is always here with me like he was in Tibet in another time. ~ Tsem Rinpoche

Location map of Bentong. (Click to enlarge)

Bentong is a town located in the western part of the Pahang state in Peninsular. Its famous for Bentong ginger, Musang King durians and ‘taufu pok’ and varieties of delicious food to offer to many. Short video yet it tells all. Its wonderful even Taoist God came to pay homage to Dorje Shugden during the procession while passing the Bigfoot store at Bentong. It’s the way when different religion and briefs should respect each other for the sake of peace and harmony in the communities. Dorje Shugden is an emanation of Manjushri, those gods who take trance and pay homage to Dorje Shugden at Bigfoot will receive his powerful blessings. Most religions recognise other faiths and encourage tolerance and different ethnic groups respect each others’ religions. May more and more will visit Bentong town, Bigfoot store and the chapel at Kechara Forest Retreat.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

  3. Lin Mun on May 30, 2019 at 10:13 pm

This is an interesting video. Even Taoist God came to pay homage to Dorje Shugden during the procession. Bigfoot is located strategically in the main road of Bentong. So Bigfoot has not only attracted the locals to visit but many tourists who came to Bentong too. Rinpoche has make it so convenient for everyone to be connected to Dorje Shugden and be blessed by him. May KFR and Bigfoot become the must visit place when people come to Bentong and more people will engage in Dorje Shugden practise.

  4. Bradley Kassian on May 19, 2019 at 7:58 pm

Thank you Rinpoche and blog team for this blog post and the video. Dorje Shugden is fully enlightened and it’s amazing to see that the Taoist Gods spontaneously offered homage. They can comprehend his true nature and they pay him reverence without any enticement from anyone. Anyone else catch at the end of the video that Taoist gods appeared to be prostrating three times? May they be blessed by Dorje Shugden, and may all who visit the Bigfoot Chapel.

  5. Tsa Tsa Ong on May 18, 2019 at 1:21 pm

This is really an interesting blog post that reveals to us the true identity of Dorje Shugden. Dorje Shugden is a fully enlightened Buddha which means he is above all the gods. This is one of the evidence of Dorje Shugden being enlightened in nature. From the video we can see clearly that the gods paid respect to Dorje Shugden when they passed by the altar. Thank you very much Rinpoche and blog team for this interesting and wonderful sharing!??????

  6. Pastor Lanse on May 18, 2019 at 10:18 am

  7. Chris on May 17, 2019 at 9:31 pm

Thank you Rinpoche and the blog team for sharing this blog post. It is an interesting blog post that reveals to us the true identity of Dorje Shugden. Dorje Shugden is a fully enlightened Buddha which means he is above all the gods. The gods will pay respect to him when they meet him to gain his blessings.

This is one of the evidence of Dorje Shugden being enlightened in nature. Since all of us can’t see the true nature of the being, it is best for us to refer to incidents like this. From the video, we can see clearly that the gods paid respect to Dorje Shugden when they pass by the altar.

Gods are sentient beings too and they will too die when their karma comes. They also need blessings from Dorje Shugden to plant imprints in them so that they eventually they can become enlightened.

  8. Jacinta on May 14, 2019 at 5:59 pm

If the person holding the camera has known earlier, maybe she/he could take the video from a nicer position?. Although it’s short, but definitely a great video showing that those who were in trance were paying homage to Dorje Shugden. Even those following behind were curious for the unexpected stop. From this gesture of respect, it shows that Dorje Shugden definitely ranks higher than them and as a matter of fact, Dorje Shugden is the emanation of Lord Manjushri.

I stayed opposite of Bigfoot twice and I found that the presence of Dorje Shugden together with Bigfoot certainly have added colours to the surrounding area, making it calm and peaceful at night. There were times where I saw the locals and tourists stopped by and folded their hands while passing by theshop. By the way, I love seeing Mr.Bigfoot at the doorstep. I think KFR will be a safe place for them to stop by for a visit or maybe delivering messages to Rinpoche one day!

Visiting Tibet, holy Gaden Monastery is everyone dream and a once life time. Of course if we have the means to visit again will be great. End of December 2008 and early January 2009 our Guru H E Tsem Rinpoche with a small group students visited Tibet. Thousands of pilgrims, visitors and tourists around the world have visited this incredible holy land for the last 600 years. Tsem Rinpoche visited Tibet for the first time with an oxygen tank. I am fortunate to visit this holy place with my Dharma brothers and sisters years back.
With our Guru blessing we went without any without any hitch. Visited most of the monasteries and could feel the powerful energies there. Looking at those pictures in this blog reminds me of trip there.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Interesting….. a ground breaking documentary by world BBC where everyone should watch. BBC did mentioned and documented that Jesus was a Buddhist monk and that he had spent some years in India. I would not know about this till I came across this blog. Many people most probably too. Interesting watch one should not miss. Jesus was a religious leader revered in Christianity, one of the world’s major religions. He is regarded by most Christians as the Incarnation of God. Historical evidence indicates that Jesus was well acquainted with Buddhism. Historical evidence indicates that Jesus knew about Buddhism. Other evidence, while perhaps apocryphal, indicates that he spent most of his so-called lost years outside Judea, possibly in Kashmir to study Buddhism exclusively.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

The Great Buddhas of Bamiyan were two monumental Buddhist statues built around 600 CE. A holy site for Buddhists on the Silk Road, historically a caravan route linking the markets of China with those of the Western world. The two most prominent statues were the giant standing sculptures of the Buddhas .It was the site of several Buddhist monasteries where monks at the monasteries lived as hermits. It was until in 2001, both statues were destroyed by the Taliban . Before being blown up in 2001, they were the largest examples of standing Buddha carvings in the world .Buddhism was eliminated in Afghanistan by the 13th century during the Mongol conquests. Sadly all statues depicting humans in Afghanistan was destroyed. They were perhaps the most famous cultural landmarks of the region, and the site was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Despite the Buddhas’s destruction, the ruins continue to be a popular culture landmark, where many locals, pilgrims and tourist visit the site.
Thank you Rinpoche for this interesting blog.

Ven. Kyabje Yongyal Rinpoche was born in Eastern Tibet, recognized as the fourth reincarnation of Kyabje Yongyal Rinpoche. Well he was known for his purity in holding his vinaya vows. Even though he left Tibet in 1959 and settled in India, he had inspired, and supported the Sangha community, working tirelessly giving teachings at Sera Monastery in India . He also continued in protecting, preserving and propagating the Buddhadharma all over the world. H E Tsem Rinpoche first met him about 15 years in Sera Monastery and the last time in Gaden Monastery. Kyabje Yongyal Rinpoche knew that Tsem Rinpoche in New York back in 2013 and decided to meet up with Rinpoche. Looking at those beautiful photos tells all . Its truly rejoiced moment .
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing with precious photos taken during Rinpoche visit.

The general preliminaries are the four contemplations on precious human body, impermanence and death, cause and effect of karma, and the defects of samsara. The special preliminaries are taking refuge, arousing bodhicitta, the recitation and meditation of Vajrasattva, mandala offerings, and guru yoga. The purpose of life is to benefit other sentient beings and the greatest benefit we can offer them is to liberate them from their suffering and its causes. We have to purify all the negative karma and defilements we have collected over our beginning-less rebirths and accumulate extensive merit. These are the conditions necessary for us to actualize the path. Well we have received just this once the most precious human life ,we have to make our life as meaningful as possible. The purpose of doing preliminary practices is for us to purify obstacles to achieving realizations of the path to enlightenment for the sake of all sentient beings. I am still doing my best .
Great sharing thank you Rinpoche and Pastor David for this important write up .

The Heart Sutra teaches emptiness through the epitome of compassion. It is often said that, the heart of emptiness is compassion. It’s an attribute by which we sees the suffering of another and experiences true empathy for them. This empathy, in turn, leads the person to reach out and share in the person’s suffering. By helping them to endure whatever they are going through regardless of race and religion. Our prime purpose in this life is to help and benefit others. Well if we can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them. Treat others as we would like others to treat us. Always wish upon others and showing kindness to those who are feeling sad or upset to help them feel better. Lend a shoulder to them to lean on. Emptiness can be explored through meditation and contemplation. By observing the impermanence and interdependence of all things, we can gradually come to understand the true nature of reality. We have to understand the actual words of the Heart Sutra and its meaning within the Buddhist tradition as well as the meanings of emptiness. Will revisit this blog to read, learn more .
Thank you Rinpoche for this profound teachings.

The concept of Dharma is considered to be accessible and applicable to everyone, regardless of their religious background. Dharma, in its essence, is about understanding and living in accordance with universal principles of righteousness and ethical conduct. The core of the doctrine of dharma, especially in Buddhism, is about understanding the nature of suffering, the cause of suffering, the possibility of ending suffering, and the path to liberation through ethical conduct, mindfulness, and wisdom. Dharma is the essential teachings to transform our mind towards that of an enlightened being. Learning and putting what we learn into practice helped us to become a better person. Dharma is for everyone, reading those stories as in the blog give us a clear understanding. Nor matter what religion we are , we are taught to be loving, compassion and living peacefully.
Thank you Rinpoche for these great teachings.

Generosity is giving more than we can, and pride is taking less than we need. Giving is an action; generosity is a matter of the heart. Real generosity toward the future lies in giving all to the present. Sharing one’s resources and helping others in need. We have not lived today until we have done something for someone who can never repay you. A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal.

n Buddhism, Dharma refers to the teachings of the Buddha and the true nature of reality. It also encompasses principles like the Eightfold Path, which guides individuals towards enlightenment and liberation from suffering. A Dharma attitude involves fulfilling one’s responsibilities and duties towards oneself, others, and the environment. Dharma work helps us to focus on benefiting others instead of ourselves. Each one of us has different ideas, approaches and methods to do dharma work. As long as its benefits others and
taking responsibility for our own actions transforming others with love and generosity. It is important to embrace our imperfections as embracing puts us on a better path of acceptance and self-discovery.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this.

Buddhism is one of the most ancient belief systems and is practiced today by nearly 350 million people around the world.
Bettany Mary Hughes is an English historian, author, and broadcaster, specialising in classical history. Bettany Hughes travelled to the seven wonders of the Buddhist world. Where she documented a unique insight into the seven wonders that explained the long and rich history of Buddhism 2500 years ago . Truly fascinating documentary that’s one should watch. Started off her journey with Bodh Gaya in India, the Bodanath Stupa in Nepal, the Temple of The Tooth in Sri Lanka, Wat Pho Temple in Thailand, Angkor Wat in Cambodia, the Giant Buddha in Hong Kong and the Hsi Lai Temple in the United States. At each location, she meets with Buddhist scholars who explain the different concepts that form the core of Buddhist philosophy, giving insight into the long and rich history of Buddhism. Interesting sharing.

Religious discrimination remains a significant issue globally, impacting various aspects of life. The Dorje Shugden controversy in Tibetan Buddhism involves accusations of religious discrimination against devotees of the Poweful Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. Dorje Shugden was a powerful Protector associated with the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. H H the Dalai Lama previously practice Dorje Shugden’s practice but somehow later discouraged the practice, citing concerns about sectarianism ,its perceived role as a spirit. Dorje Shugden’s practitioners have reported feeling ostracized and discriminated against by the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and those supporting the Dalai Lama. The controversy has divided the Tibetan community and has been a source of contention and tension. CTA had breached the rights of every Dorje Shugden practitioners to what they pray . Many families are torn apart by this. Dorje Shugden people had to break away from their monasteries .Religious freedom and human rights are interconnected. Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion regardless of race and faith. Religious freedom is one of the most fundamental of human rights. The discrimination that Dorje Shugden practitioners are experiencing today has similarities to other historic bigotry and prejudices such example was the African American Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s,and the Women’s Suffrage Movement. Racism affects virtually every country in the world. It denies people their full human rights just because of their colour, race, ethnicity, descent or national origin. The most prevalent discrimination that we see today are national origin and race discrimination. May there be peace, unity, harmony and based on compassion, acceptance and universal freedom of religious choice without discrimination or recriminations of any kind.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

The Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Kerala, India is said to be thousands of years old, built in the Dravidian style, and houses more secrets than most people can ever dream of. That’s interesting. This temple is a legendary secret chamber that has remained unopened for centuries. Legends and local beliefs it is protected by powerful deities and a curse. The door is said to be sealed with a mystical spell, and it is believed that anyone attempting to open it without proper rituals will face grave consequences, having met with mysterious deaths or terrible misfortune. Locals had warns that attempting to open Vault B without proper rituals and respect for the deities could unleash untold calamities and misfortune. Stories abound of previous attempts to open the vault had failed that resulted in terrifying visions and other supernatural occurrences, and tragic fates for those involved. Some believe that the vault contained ancient treasures , wealth and divine relics . Previously temple workers reportedly tried to force open the door, resulting in the terrifying experiences described in legends. It’s not just a place of worship but also a vault of mysteries. Modern attempts using technology have also failed to open the door, as if some force is protecting it. Every attempt to open Vault B has failed. The door remains closed, and no one know of the contents within, whether wealth, divine relics, or something else entirely, are unknown to the world . No one dare to try opening it since at least the 1880s recording to reports. Interesting article .

Revisit this interesting truth where not many people knew the actual story behind . With great effort and research finally the story unfolded. In Tibet, Oracles play, an important part in principal roles assisting governmental decision-making and providing intelligence revelation, religion, doctrine, and prophecy. To this day the Tibetan government still believe and rely in Nechung Oracle. When Nechung oracle took trance, it is actually spirit Nyatrul who has causes problems and misprophecies. Nechung is bound by oath to protect the Dharma. Nechung prophecies are unreliable, most probably given by Nyatrul spirit to the Tibetan government. Such as wrong medication given to the 13 th Dalai Lama as prescribed by the Nechung Oracle. Another misprophecies was during the British invasion. If it was really Nechung who took trance of the Oracle, these types of misprophecies would not have happen. As mentioned in the 6th Dalai Lama biography, we cannot trust or rely on Nechung’s prophecies. It was said that Nyatrul not Nechung who created the problems and harm to Dorje Shugden . It must have told HH the Dalai Lama to ban Dorje Shugden .
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor Jean Ai for this interesting article.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

Find one of the most beautiful temples in the world in Nara, Japan. It is the 1,267 year old Todai-ji temple that houses a 15 meter Buddha Vairocana statue who is a cosmic and timeless Buddha. Emperor Shomu who sponsored this beautiful temple eventually abdicated and ordained as a Buddhist monk. Very interesting history and story. One of the places everyone should visit- https://bit.ly/2VgsHhK

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
