Dear all,

Today Pastor Yek Yee was present at another person’s death bed again doing prayers as the person was passing away. My cousin’s mom-inlaw had terminal stage cancer about 1 year ago, since then, Pastor Yek Yee has been fulfilling her role as Kechara’s pastor 100%: she would give Dharma and secular advice to the patient and family, arrange pujas to be done at Puja House regularly, arrange for Medicine Buddha statue to be invited and altar to be set up in the patient’s house, and she is always available whenever the family requested her to go to the house/hospital to give guidance and prayers impromptu due to emergency, and that happened at least 7-8 times throughout.

And today as the patient’s situation worsened, the family contacted Pastor Yek Yee, and as usual she is always available to go at the crucial moment. She went to the hospital at around 9am, and stayed with the patient through her last moments doing prayers, giving comfort, and giving guidance to the family members at the same time, until the patient passed away at 1pm. And she will now arrange for Kechara puja team to do prayers at the wake for the next few days.

Kechara is very honored and proud to have a pastor like Yek Yee, who is selfless and really committed 100% to her role assigned to her by her Guru without question. She is on-call 24/7, and anytime anywhere the patient and family requested for her, she will be there. Pastor Yek Yee truly exudes loving kinedness and compassion energy just like what Rinpoche has taught, she is truly a role-model student of Tsem Rinpoche that we should all emulate.

Pastor Loh Seng Piow (July 25th, 2013)

p/s  Pastor Yek Yee was conducting Rabney puja at Wisdom Hall of Kechara Forest Retreat (1 hour’s drive away from KL) today morning at 5am, and when completed puja at Wisdom Hall,  she went straight to the hospital in KL at 9am. Pastor Yek Yee has been working very hard and showing good examples,  an inspiration for many to follow. Paul (Liaison of Kechara House)

Just wonder what is Pastor Yek Yee made of ….attending outcall pujas, bereavements, visiting the sick, conducting dharma classes, and at times, she will even travel from North to South and vice versa to assist those in needs etc…She is a lady with less talk and more actions. Pastor Yek Yee has in fact fully devoted herself to the Dharma and Kechara . Thank you Pastor Yek Yee for all the kind and sincere assistance you have rendered. You are the “IRON LADY OF KECHARA”!!

I have worked with Pastor Yekyee. She is definitely a dedicated and caring pastor you can really rely on. She can work tireless for others as what Rinpoche always advise us, to serve others we must pust ourselves more out of our comfort zone to be able to benefit more people who need our help and service.

Her pastor duties and responsibilities require her to be able to respond quickly to emergency. Therefore for those who have time to spare get in touch with her to have the opportunity to assist her. It is a privilege to work with Pastor Yekyee. 🙂

Pastor Yek Yee is a lovely person. Very simple and approachable. And always has a smile for you.I remember an incident where Pastor YY had to trek into a jungle to do a prayer for someone who got lost in there. No circumstances can stop her from fulfilling her responsibilities. Very devoted and dedicated. Her growth in Dharma from a journalist to a Pastor and recently a new member in the Kechara Board of Directors is very inspiring and admirable. Truly rejoice for you Pastor YY !

Pastor Yek Yee is inspirational. She goes all out to help and comfort people in times of need, no matter what the hours are, she will be there. She represents Kechara well and always have other people’s interests first before hers. She is also a funny and loving lady who I like to hang out with. She puts a smile on my face whenever I see her. Thank you Pastor Yek Yee for making a difference to many lives.

  22. Bryan Ho on Sep 10, 2013 at 5:59 pm

Pastor Yek Yee is one of the senior who guided me into my spiritual path when I first got to know about Kechara. She is generous, patient, and very kind towards anyone who might help.

Pastor Yek Yee is also very observant, she is the first few people who will come and talk to me if I have any problem in mind, and she will just sit me down and try her best to solve my problems without asking anything back.

She is a real example of a Pastor, who dedicate her life for many others. She never show black face to anyone who needed her help, she’s not greedy nor looking for attention but she is sincerely helpful and kind loving.

Pastor Yek Yee is very inspiring for juniors like myself, and i believe more people will join Dharma, due to PYY’s kindness and tireless contribution.

  23. Jace Chong on Sep 10, 2013 at 10:23 am

Pastor Yek Yee, PYY is somebody who I highly respect and always want to thank her from the bottom of my heart.

PYY uses her daily action to tell others, what compassion and Guru devotion can do. She is very devoted to bring Kechara to another level and another level because she believes in her Guru that nothing is impossible.

She never ignores every small problems you tell her, she will try her very best to advice, to help.

I know she is very busy but I will call her sometimes for problems that I can’t solve. No matter how busy she is, she will listen and even remember the progress of the problem in our last conversation. She will give her very best advice and I will definitely follow because the advice is powerful.

The advice is powerful not because she has super power but she has super compassion and super care to others, that’s what make her work powerful.

Pastor Yek Yee is the most approachable person in Kechara, humbly down to earth, and genuinely cares for people around her through her actions and not plainly words. Most importantly, she shows me how strong her guru devotion is by going beyond her comfort level to spread dharma on behalf of Rinpoche.
I have especially enjoys the Sunday dharma class as it really has help me understand Rinpoche’s precious teaching better. She cracks little jokes in between and with some sharing of her up close and personal interactions with Rinpoche, I am near to Guru even I do not get to see Rinpoche often.
I could not say enough thank you to pastor Yek Yee, for pulling me back every time I unnoticeably drifting away, for your care and constant thoughts of me and my family, and all the kind advices and care you have shown. You are definitely proud pastor of Kechara and you are our pride. :)Thank you Rinpoche for creating the opportunity for me to be able to express my appreciation and gratitude to pastor Yek Yee through this platform.

Pastor Yek Yee is a true pastor that is admirable because she truly is selfless and she cares!

She is on call 24/7 for anyone and does not turn her phone “off” and “on” to her convenience. She walks the talk of Dharma and she is LOYAL. She left her journalism life as a respected writer for Dharma and has never looked back because obviously there is more meaning in what she does here in Kechara than just the same old boring mundane worldly jobs of self-absorbtion.

Keep up the good work my dear, you’re an inspiration!!! xxx

It would be most beneficial for Pastor Yek Yee to be trained in Chenrezig Phowa to further benefit others on their deathbed.

i have the opportunity to work with Pastor Yek Yee on many occasion in hospital visits, and bereavement puja as well as outstation visits to other study group. She is definitely a very dedicated Pastor who serve the public and uphold Dharma that will benefit many through the blessing of Tsem Rinpoche.

As a Pastor, Pastor Yek Yee have only one thing that she will always emphasize and put as priority, even when i go to hospital visits or outcall puja with her, that is Guru Devotion. This is what propels Pastor Yek Yee in her duty not only as a Pastor, but also as a representative of H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche and Kechara.

Pastor Yek Yee always think of the person conditions and needs, what they want, what are the necessary things that each individual needs in order to collect merits, she will skillfully think of the best and most convenient method applicable to that person, so that person can clear his or her obstacles faster.

It really shows her dedication not only as a Pastor of Kechara House, but also a loyal and dedicated student with great Guru Devotion of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche.

I have always been getting news about Pastor Yek Yee, and in each and every one of it, she is out there, helping someone that’s in trouble without discrimination.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful write up about Pastor Yek Yee, she truly is a dedicated and most importantly, caring person. When a person cares enough, they don’t feel tired to extend their help. It is obvious that Pastor Yek Yee falls in this small and rare category.

  51. Choongs on Sep 3, 2013 at 11:38 pm

I have not ever spoken to Pastor Yek Yee but she has smiled to me before in Kechara House and this reminds me of the third most popular story/teaching in Zen Buddhism. I can only comment that her face is the antithesis of the three poisons.

We work together as a team with Pastor Yek Yee and Cynthia Ng in Kechara House and Puja House, where personal pujas can be sponsored for individual need.

Pastor Yek Yee will go to all lengths to ensure we (the team) adhere to high standards when conducting pujas in KH events, Puja House and outcall pujas to ensure the prayers benefit others as the highest motivation. She is hard working, work at odd hours, organized, work well as a team, good listener, experienced dharma teacher, strict, discipline and good leader who walk the talk. She embodies a true Buddhist dharma practitioner who is loyal, sincere and willing to put in the effort for the benefit of others.

We are very proud to have her as Kechara’s pastor. May her work be an inspiration to other future aspiring pastors.

Pastor Yek Yee is always having a warm smile on her face no matter what happens. She would also being happiness to all that are around her. To me, I truly feel that she will always have the best words for those who need it. She would know what to say to them, to just be spiritually with them and bring them peace.

She would even travel overseas to do prayers for those that needs it. I am really happy that Kechara has a pastor like Yek Yee to be benefitting all that needs it.

Pastor Yek yee’s tireless devotion is an incredible inspiration – to be available anytime to anyone who needs her prayers, counseling and comfort. It is precisely by these selfless giving that people come to know what Kechara is about and eventually be brought to the Dharma. We can say what we like but it is this calibre of dedication that speaks the loudest and this kind of commitment is only possible when one no longer thinks on oneself. There is no time-out for Dharma and there is no breaks and holidays for compassion.

Thank you Pastor for your great works done out of Guru devotion and kindness towards all.

Wow …Rinpoche for seen in all the constructions of Kechara Forest Retreat . Truly amazing, the planning of the hall and those statues as well . Rinpoche would always involved whatever he could for the benefits of all from A to Z. Rinpoche has such wisdom, compassion, love, care and true connection with all of us.. Sentient beings come to this present life from their previous lives and take rebirth. Positive karma are created and their imprints remain on the consciousness. H.E. Tsem Rinpoche has always wanted to be a monk, since young. He had a very strong imprints from a previous existence , that Rinpoche enjoyed drawing images of Buddha and keen to read Buddhist books. Rinpoche will somehow go and looked for Buddhist Temple to practice Dharma teachings without his foster parent knowledge. Rinpoche could be a movie star but Rinpoche chose to be a monk where Rinpoche would benefit to all sentient beings. Well, Rinpoche had since kept his vows until the last day . Rinpoche did say before that the happiest days of his life was at the monastery serving his teachers.
Thank you Pastor David for sharing this short post.

    The Guangxi Community in Bentong

Bentong is one of the few towns in Malaysia which has a majority of Guangxi Chinese within the Chinese community. Based on the information I gathered from the Bentong Guangxi Association, it is estimated that around 75% of the Chinese population in Bentong can safely trace their ancestry back to Guangxi Province, China. Notably, about 90% of the Chinese population in the Perting Chinese New Village are Guangxi Chinese.

The Sacred Vajrayogini of Ratsag Monastery

Ratsag is a contraction of Ra Lotsawa’s clan name and the Tibetan expression tsagsutsu, which means “success.” This indicates that Ratsag Monastery was the last of the set of 108 monasteries that Ra Lotsawa pledged to build. His connection to Ra Bende Yonten Gyalpo of the inscription, aside from sharing the same family name, remains unknown. Nevertheless, the occupants of the monastery and the local people all continue to regard Ratsag Monastery as being founded by Ra Lotsawa.

Videos Redressing the Misinformation About Dorje Shugden and the Tibetan Situation

The CTA officially banned the Dorje Shugden practice in 1996. At first, some Tibetans believed the CTA’s reasons for the ban even though it did not make much sense to those who knew better. The deity that the CTA was disparaging was trusted and relied on by the most highly attained masters, abbots of great monasteries, erudite scholars and geshes over the centuries. They were precious vessels of the entire corpus of Buddhist practices including the Sutras and Tantras, and it is just not possible that they could have been right about everything else and wrong about Dorje Shugden.

Find out more of why its simply illogical to ban Dorje Shugden’s authentic practice: http://bit.ly/RedressingTruths

The Sakya Lineage & Dorje Shugden

The account of how this came to be was told beautifully by Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche in his writings on Dorje Shugden. That is why in our tradition, we request Dorje Shugden to come forth from the great Sakya monastery when we engage in his pujas today. This can be seen in the invocation verses of Dorje Shugden puja that was composed by Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche.

    Dream Manjushri

After so many years, I remember the dream very clearly even till today. And I love this form of Manjushri. I requested a Ladrang staff to have this form of Manjushri carved from wood for me. And he did so!! He presented this carving to me as a gift!! Thank you so much! Then I had Joy paint up the wooden image of Manjushri in traditional style and it just finished tonight. Now this 24-inch Dream Manjushri is now in my room where I can see Him daily. How lucky I am. I love Manjushri so much. I have always loved Manjushri since I was very young and I am very attracted to Him.

Generally stupas are the physical representations of a Buddha’s mind. They come in 8 main shapes. Each shape is equal to the representation of Buddha’s mind.

    They can contain:

    Relics of Buddha
    Relics of High monks
    Relics of attained masters
    Sutras
    Mantras
Multiple images of Buddhas such as statues/tsatsas/pictures/paintings/precious items
    Wealth vases
Blessed items like from sand mandalas
Even consecrated bones/nail/hair of ordinary beings/animals can be placed inside… this would generate great merits for the deceased in their future rebirths. And stupas can come in all sizes from one inch to one story or anything
Stupas are built to purify karma, sanctify an area, calm an area with many natural disasters, bring good energy/luck to a region, enshrine the remains of holy beings, bless the environment and animals in the region and also they can be built as an act of spiritual devotion to commemorate a special event eg. Buddha’s birthday.

When the stupas are built, many will make prostrations, offerings of butterlamps and circumambulation around them. It is believed these acts will purify the negative karma associated strongly with the mind also body and speech. Negative karma blocks spiritual realization and higher states of existences.

You will see stupas in all Buddhist countries in their unique styles.

Here’s an aerial view of the Bodhanath Stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal…You must visit by hook or crook once in your life..and Nepalese culture is beautiful also…so much to see and learn in Bodha… You can call this the Bodhanath stupa or simply the Bodha stupa. As you fly into the Kathmandu International airport, you will see this amazing stupa through your window…

The Bodha stupa contains the relics of Lord Buddha. Thousands make worship each day and hundreds of thousands visit per year. I have gone many times. I thought to share this picture with everyone for a blessing.

The Baodingshan cave is located 20km northeast of Dazu. The site is about 500m long from west to east in the shape of a hairpin, with about one kilometer total length of sculptures. The carved areas which are between three and 15 meters tall are believed to have been carved under the direction of monk Zhao Zhifeng during the Southern Song Dynasty, between 1179 and 1249 AD. However, Some Daoist images date the carvings to the Qing Dynasty and later.

These reliefs and sculptures reflect a diverse school of Esoteric Buddhism that highlighted the faction of Liu Benzun (855 – 907), a pious layman of Sichuan province who became venerated for his asceticism and spiritual perfection. The three traditions Huayun, Pure Land and Zen are represented, blended with Confucianism. Shakyamuni’s birth and death, the Wheel of Reincarnation, Hell Punishments, and popular deities are also featured.

The reliefs are like illustrated sermons in stone, being interspersed with copious quotations from the sutras, which show that the intention of these reliefs is variously devotional, sermonic and in the pursuit of transcendence. As expressed by Zhao’s signature text:

“Even if one spins a burning hot iron wheel on top of my head,
No matter how excruciating the pain is,
I will not relapse from the mind of enlightenment.”

Many of the reliefs are lively, realistic and of high artistic quality. The reliefs were parables or teaching devices for the common people and elite persons of the time by depicting scenes of ordinary people and situations. For the monks who trained at the site, the reliefs illustrated Zhao’s spiritual doctrine in a concrete and memorable way, and remains so for visitors today.

The sequence of reliefs effectively amounts to a manual on ultimate liberation. Zhao promotes the Mahayana ideal that everyone can be saved through various means i.e. reflections on Shakyamuni’s life (the Parinirvana and Birth reliefs) and the doctrine of Karma (the Wheel of Reincarnation), encouraging good acts (reliefs of Parental and Filial Kindness), discouraging evil acts (Hell reliefs), promoting various kinds of worship (Huayun, Pure Land, and Esoteric reliefs) and contemplation (Oxherding Parable).

The Mogao Caves of Dunhuang, China has been a treasure house of art, spanning over 1,000 years. In each and every one of its 492 Buddhist cave chapels, you will find floor-to-ceiling paintings and clay sculptures as it was previously used for devotions and meditation. The art inside here covers more than ten major genres, such as architecture, stucco sculpture, wall paintings, silk paintings, calligraphy, woodblock printing, embroidery, literature, music and dance, and popular entertainment. But all these only existed because of one man’s vision.

The legend is that in 366 AD, a monk named Le Zun looked across the river at dawn and saw a thousand Buddhas appear on the golden cliff face of Mingsha mountain along the old Silk Road. The caves were then built by monks and mostly sponsored by patrons such as wealthy merchants, foreign dignitaries, as well as Chinese emperors.

But when trade in the Silk Road stopped, Dunhuang was soon forgotten and eventually, the Mogao caves were abandoned. The site however was still a place of pilgrimage and was used as a place of worship by the local people of the 20th century when there was renewed awareness in its presence once more.

On the 21 of January 2007, a 5 ft 3in shark was caught in Japanese waters. This may seem quite uninteresting, but the shark that was spotted is one of the very few unique species of shark that have survived without evolving at all.

Called the frilled shark (because of how it flares its gills), this shark has not changed for a HUNDRED MILLION years. Scientists do not know why it hasn’t evolved, and for a while it was even thought to be extinct. When it was discovered to be extant (i.e. still existing) many people called it the “living fossil”. This is because it is the only species in the shark family that completely avoided evolution!

We don’t see frilled sharks as regularly as those sharks from the Jaws movie, because the frilled shark can live as far as 5,150 ft below sea level.

Although they are rarely seen, they have been spotted in certain areas around the world… from northern Norway to France, Morocco, West Africa (where they have the 2nd kind of frilled shark, called the Southern African frilled shark, which only lives in the regions of South-Africa), New Zealand, Hawaii, Chile and other places…

Check out the video http://bit.ly/33MoS42 shows you the frilled shark that was spotted by a fisherman in Japan.

In June 2010, Wayne Giroux, a lawn mower shop owner, was in a car accident and was killed by a drunk driver. He had lived in Texas with his son, Paul and dog, Spot, and was 61 when he died…

Also in June 2010, I had written about a dog in Japan, named Hachiko who taught and still teaches people the meaning of friendship and loyalty. Every day, Hachiko would go to the same spot at the train station to wait for his owner… until one day, his owner died whilst at work and did not return.

Hachiko still continued going to the same spot every day for the next 9 years! This happened in 1925. 85 years later, the same example of friendship and loyalty can be seen in Spot. For the past few months, Spot still sits on the main road waiting for Wayne to drive back home. Whenever Paul sees him there, he gets saddened because he knows what Spot is doing. He says, “I have no doubt that’s what that dog is waiting for. It breaks my heart every time I go out there.”

We can teach our dogs to sit, stay, roll over and not to bite on the wires etc… but the dog is clearly better at teaching us about friendship and loyalty…

Do watch the video at http://bit.ly/34Yz3m9 about the American Hachiko, Spot. It’s very heartbreaking to watch her so lost…

The awareness of the importance of protecting life and the living environment has been increasing in recent times. However, people still continue to misuse their power, and have selfishly destroyed many species of animals and their habitats. We are definitely destroying ourselves on environmental and karmic levels.

Limiting one’s selfishness through the spirit of contentment would curb the need to satisfy excessive and unnecessary demands, and thus living in harmony with nature without harming the environment. Lessening our greed towards animal products would have a profound positive impact on our world.

Check out the animals that are hunted to extinction for meat, sport or due to fear… except for the T-rex! at http://bit.ly/2qUdfJW

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

    2 yearss ago
What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
