Jean Mei joins Kechara Full-Time!
I’ve known Jean Mei since she was 10 years old and have watched her grow into a very self-driven young lady. She has recently graduated with a degree in Accounting and Finance in England where she was then expecting to start her career at one of the Big Four accounting firms, KPMG.
Just like her mother Dato’ Ruby Khong, who is the President of Kechara Soup Kitchen (http://www.kechara.com/ksk) and also long-time student and a good friend of mine, I have seen that she has always displayed a sense of giving and desire to help greater causes. At university, when she saw that there were south-east Asians who needed a little help settling in and finding a new identity in a foreign country, she founded the South-East Asian society. The society grew from 35 to 180 people in a year..
Unsure of what to do upon graduation, Jean Mei traveled around Europe and finally decided to expand her boundaries by moving to Beijing to study Mandarin at Beijing University. After spending seven months in China, she returned to Malaysia looking to go back after a short family visit. On her visit, I could see that she started taking a bigger interest in Kechara as she consistently volunteered and helped out in different departments….she’s an intelligent girl who likes to understand things for herself..hehe
Despite all the choices she had, she chose to do dharma full-time when she saw how much Kechara had grown. Like many people, she thought that dharma is a nowhere, dead end job with very little satisfaction. Dharma can be very SATISFYING AND REWARDING. There are so many people in Kechara who are young, vibrant, bright and eager to MAKE THINGS HAPPEN.
I like things fast and Jean Mei also likes to do things fast. She is very much like her mother, who is officially my Liaison of Personal Affairs….Dato’ Ruby trained her well hehehe Jean Mei will be my blogging secretary and will also be working with Wee Liang to start the Kechara youth group.
At 22, she’s currently the youngest full-timer in Kechara! I’m very happy that Jean Mei is joining!! I hope very much that Jean Mei will do dharma work for her parents. She should love and respect them and help to repay their kindness.
I wish her all the best in her dharma career and I know that she will benefit many and inspire a lot of young people like her to do work that benefits others!!!

Jean Mei is really a very different young lady. She is a great Dharma sister to be with. She teaches and help others not only by saying things with her mouth, but through her actions. Her kindness is just something so beautiful that is found in such a young and incredible young lady.
She has rescued two dogs before they are being put down, loving and caring for them with all her heart. She is definitely a gem that is hard to come by.
I am very grateful to be able to meet her, learning and listening to the advises she has for people. Although she is young, but when it comes to work and business, she is definitely someone that would be able to help, giving the correct advises that will definitely help and benefit you.
Hey Jean!
happy catching you on Rinpoche’s blog chat.. very pleasing to know you minding about dharma at a such young age.. keep it up! it is karma we met on line .. hope to keep in touch and help me to experience the height of Buddhism in this very life time..
[…] Saturday (2 March), President of Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) Dato’ Ruby Khong, Khong Jean Mei and Khong Jean Ai were invited to be speakers at the REACH OUT Youth Convention and Celebration […]
God bless her.
JM,
You will inspire many people who want much more than eking out a worldly existence. At 22 I was in Uni wasting my youth away playing cards and goofing about. Good for you 🙂
It is very inspiring to see young people devoting themselves for others. This is rare and very refreshing.
Jean Mei, I am very proud of you. Your wish to join the kechara family is a testimony to how Rinpoche’s has taken care of you and your family as well as how you have grown up with Dharma in your “blood.”
I am confident you will and already fast becoming a role model to many.
catch up soon munster

I didn’t know Jean Mei as much as the sister Jean Ai. Jean Mei was very small then and never join us when we had our study group sharing of Dharma in Ruby’s house. I never got to see her but Jean Ai who will be doing work helping around the house. I only got to know Jean Mei better when I came to Ladrang to learn to comment on Rinpoche’s blog. It was at the blogging retreat that she help me print out the articles so I can read and comment and FM will post the comments. She has joined Rinpoche as blogging secretary and nows Ladrang staff. Thank you Jean Mei for helping me in handling the computor.
Congratulations Ruby, what a wonderful job you have done raising children that from very young knows the meaning of benefitting others. Mothers like you are shining examples of how to create a better future for generations to come.
Thank you, Ruby, for your contribution to Kechara, the Dharma and all of us Kecharians with your encouragement to your lovely daughter Jean Mei to join our Happy Dharma Family.
Most of all, Kudos to you, Jean Mai, what a powerful choice for your career.
Congratulations Mei and welcome to Kechara family! You are young, intelligent, with full of energy and confidence and eager to learn which will be an asset to your career in dharma. You will be an inspiration and set a very good example for other young people who chose to work in a dharma organisation.
I hope you will achieve the greatest fulfillment in your life by doing dharma work. It may not be easy in the beginning, but knowing you, you will be able to overcome the difficulties and blossom to be wiser as you go along…….
I am happy that you have made the right choice!!!
BE STRONG AND NEVER GIVE UP….DHARMA IS NOT WORK… IT IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE AND BENEFIT OTHERS.
Like mother like daughter, Jean Mei who is the daughter of Ruby Khong, President of KSA, fell in love with Dharma. Recently graduated with a degree in accounting and finance in England, she paid consistent visits to Kechara House. She was noticed by our guru to have a great sense of giving and a desire to help people. She founded a South Asian Society to help people to settle in and finding new identity in a foreign country and the society grew from 35 to 180members in 1 year. Being young, intelligent, vibrant and fill with the eagerness to learn, under the devine guidance of our guru she certainly can go very far like her famous mother to help and benefit many people. I salute you Jean Mei for your good choice.
Congratulations Jean Mei… you’re everything Rinpoche and all the other comments said. It’s been a joy to work with you these past couple of months and I look forward to more and more. Jean Mei and Jean Ai joining full time is really a reflection of Liaison Ruby Khong – Rinpoche always says that if you want to see how much a Dharma practitioner someone is, look at their children, and both these young ladies are super examples (of course with a super Dharma star like Ruby Khong, it’d be difficult not to be too!)
Welcome on board, Jean Mei!
i like Jean Mei a lot. Everytime i see her, she’s with this SUNSHINE smile, like telling me “everything is just gonna be fine, wink!” u know.. She’s confidence, driven, always wanted to learn more. She cares and loves Rinpoche very very much. I am truly happy for her. I pray everyday, may my children be just like Jean Ai and Jean Mei.
Congratulations to you Jean Mei! You are very fortunate and have made a perfect decision to join Dharma fulltime. Your parents must be very proud of you!
Thank You for your kindness to choose fulltime Dharma work at this young age when you could have pursued your lucrative career in the secular world. It is not small step but a very big leap in your Dharma practice. Now you can devote your entire energy, time and effort single pointedly towards your spiritual goals.
Not many spiritual practitioners have the opportunity or merits to do fulltime Dharma work even if they wanted to. Doing Dharma work fulltime is one of the most skilful methods to benefit others because at our level now, we lack the perfect wisdom, compassion and skilful means to really benefit countless others. On our own we could accomplish very little to benefit others. We need our Guru who has the qualifications and Kechara House to realize our wish to benefit countless others effectively.
You have set an inspiring example for many others to follow suit. May you have an exciting spiritual journey ahead!
Dharma work is NOT work, it is an OPPORTUNITY to benefit others.
Congrats cousin!!! Am so proud of you!! =)
I am glad that Jean Mei has followed her heart and made a decision to do what she always knew and believed was right, what she had always wanted to do even if she didn’t realise it. Dharma has always been instilled within her, with helping those close to her and Kechara’s growth playing a fundamental role in her priorities.
A very capable, intelligent, sharp and outgoing person (and a super amazing friend to say the least), Jean Mei will contribute to Kechara and Rinpoche with her endless ideas and abilities. I am certain that she will, together with Wee Liang, establish Kechara Youth in the best way possible and will tremendously benefit the blog to reach an even wider array of audiences.
Elisa,….YAY! I’m so so so happy for you! Do what you do best – I know you can when you put your heart into it 🙂 xxx
But of course, we cannot forget yet another Khong too, who is equally as feisty and full of zest… Jean Ai. Who joined full time last year. This tree definitely has some incredible fruits! 😉 Much love to you too Jean Ai… Andrew
Another mini Ruby in the making… How wonderful! Given the age she is starting at, imagine what she could achieve upon reaching her mother’s age now! No disrespect to Ruby of course! I would not dare, as she is an amazing and wonderful person who is an inspiration to all, in that one does not “give up” one’s life to be in Dharma, but one “enriches” one’s life to be in Dharma. She is a clear and true example of that. And the results are apparent as not only does she have a feather in her cap, she has an entire headress!!!! Hehehe
Hence, if an apple does not fall far from the tree (as I always say!), look out world, Jean Mei is going to take it by storm and all for a good cause and great motivation. Well done little sis!
We (Kecharians) are here for you and with you all the way… Much love… Andrew
Jean Mei is an incredible young lady who knows the difference in true value of life and temporal pursuits of pleasures in life. When I was her age, I was not even half as wise as her and I certainly was not as grounded.
I firmly believe that meeting her Guru at a young age has set her right from the start. Above all, her parents have brought her up well – in the Dharma way. Just look at her mother! Her mother is the relentless amazing wonder woman behind Kechara Soup Kitchen, Ruby Khong.
Jean Mei’s sister, Jean Ai is the same – driven and passionately committed to the Dharma. They are living testaments that Dharma can move individuals in the right path from young when guided at a tender age.
Both Jean Mei and Jean Ai are girls who know how to play hard and work hard for the Dharma. I have deep respect for them and rejoice for them heartily. I know that the rest of their lives will be beautiful – and even their succeeding lives will be just as wonderful.
Congrats to Jean Mei to making that leap into Dharma full-time. She is not just another Khong – she is a Khong who has come into her own.
Dear Jean Mei,
You shall be a shinning example to your peers.
Finding true meaning in your career will be one of the greatest fulfillment you can get in life.
You reflect well on your parents.
May your spiritual career take you to greater heights in this and future lives !
With love and prayers, yoke fui
Congrats, Jean Mei!
You have made a good decision to embark on your spiritual career with Kechara. The path will be rocky with many potholes that you have to mend along the way. It will be full of tears and joy and you will come out experienced and wiser as you progress. But….
NEVER GIVE UP!
Dear Jean Mei,
Welcome to the Kechara family!
I know you can and will do your very best to benefit others!
You will be the shining example and inspiration for young people to dedicate their lives to dharma..
My best wishes to you.
Siong Woan
The two “Mini” Ruby’s are indeed precious gems on their own and it gives me such a strong sense of hope to know that Jean Mei and Jean Ai will become such powerful teachers of the Dharma in the years to come, even as they eat, live and breathe the dharma now. I cannot wait to see the 2nd Generation Kecharans flex their Bodhicitta muscles 10 years from now. Jean Mei, like Jean Ai, Wee Liang, Pavara & Jutika and many more in “Jedi training” are already the first fruits of the Kechara nourishment, and i am proud to know them personally and i sleep better knowing that Kechara will be in great hands in years to come.
I pledge my humble support to these future Teachers.
Dear Jean Mei,
Congratulations on making the choice to serve the dharma as a career . With your brilliance, humour and beauty, you will be able to spread the dharma in all 100 directions and benefit many. May buddha blossom in your heart like a lotus.
Congratulations and welcome Jean Mei!
A young person with much career choice like you choose Dharma – that is very inspiring and sends a strong message out there that Dharma is not for the “old & retired” 😛
All the best & I am sure with ex-founder & President of a university society like you, the youth group will thrive! Hurrah!
P/s: I love your crazy travel pic!
Welcome Jean Mei, welcome to Kechara family…you are young, pretty, enegertic, smart…you will be a brilliant star in you dharma spiritual journey!!welcome:)
Congratulations to you Jean Mei!! Welcome you to join our Kechara Tsem Buddhist Organisation. Thank you for making such a wonderful decision to join, you’ll have lots of fun working with Rinpoche and the rest. Your courier is going to benefit lots of lots people over the world later. I am very proud of you. ALL THE BEST!!!
Love,

Dear Rinpoche,
When people like Jean Mei pass up the opportunity of great worldly careers to joing Kechara, it really is testament to the incredible benefit and support Kechara spreads to countless people, and just how worthwhile the organisation is.
It is thanks to you and your tireless efforts and commitment to the Dharma and benefiting all beings that we can all share in this wonderful organisation and be a part of its growth.
Of course, an organisation is nothing without wonderful, talented and committed people to help carry on its success, and I wish Jean Mei every happiness and success in her career at Kechara, though I’m not so sure the folks at KPMG will be so delighted!
Kindest regards,
Sandy
Go Mei Mei! Everything Rinpoche wrote about you is absolutely true, you’re a very driven, beautiful young lady who has so much going for you. Grounded, loyal and very giving – you’ve always been like this since young. Good on you for choosing to set an example for others to follow…you should people that you don’t give anything up by joining dharma but actually, you gain so much more.
Che Che is very proud of you and happy for you!
