Animal cruelty is an ongoing issue which deeply bothers most animal lovers around the world. It is a growing phenomena but most of us prefer not to pay attention to it because it is painful to see yet involves too much effort to change.
Animal lovers can be categorized into two main groups – the first type loves animals but does not get involved in creating awareness against animal cruelty. The other type loves animals AND passionately champions activities that promote awareness against animal cruelty. The latter is what we should do.
I am very happy to see more celebrities using their power of influence to speak up against animal cruelty. I hope this article will inspire more people to practice kindness, to do more for animals as they have no voice of their own, and to transform their lives for the better.

Ricky Gervais Has a Message for People Who Still Wear Fur
As animal lovers, there are many issues that boil our blood when it comes to animal welfare. We can’t believe that there are places around the world that still use bear bile as a form of medicine. We simply can’t wrap our heads around why anyone would prize an ivory trinket over the life of an elephant. And of course, we get enraged when we think of the millions of animals that are killed every single day simply to satiate our appetite for meat and cheese.
When people are passionate about an issue, they usually want to spread as much information and awareness about the topic as possible. They want people to know about the matter from all sorts of different angles and make a knowledgeable opinion about it. After all, someone would be more likely to cut down their meat consumption, for instance, if they knew that not only is meat bad for animals but for the environment and human health, as well, right? Well, as much as we agree with this informed approach, there are alternate ways to raise awareness, nowadays. Some people, especially celebrities, are able to make an impact with just a simple statement. They know that millions of people follow their Twitter or Facebook page, and they use that elevated platform to get to the point quickly and tell people matter-of-factly “you should be caring about this,” or “please don’t do that.”
Ricky Gervais is a big fan of this method of spreading awareness. In fact, just recently he shared a succinct Facebook status that made it pretty simple for people to know where he stands when it comes to wearing real fur.
This method works on a number of levels. It gets to the message quickly and directly: “please don’t buy fur.” It doesn’t overwhelm viewers with a slew of information but instead sticks to the most hard-hitting fact: an animal is kept in a cage for their entire life simply for their fur. And it lets people know how silly it is that someone is buying that jacket just so they can “show off,” when it’s plain to see that this is not something worth bragging about. The fact that you can read the status in a Ricky Gervais accent helps get the message across as well.
By now, most people know how terribly abusive the fur industry is. Animals who are unfortunate enough to end up in this vicious industry are often stolen from the wild, kept in unbearably small cages, and then killed by cruel methods, including gassing and even anal electrocution. And the worst part is, it takes multiple lives to make one garment. Specifically, it takes about 40 rabbits, 70 minks, and up to 100 chinchillas, respectively, to make a fur coat.
While many high-end brands have halted their use of animal fur and skins in response to the public’s disapproval of the practice, there are still companies out there who seem to have no problem continuing with the abuse. Hopefully, as even more awareness spreads and more prominent figures, like Ricky Gervais, stand up in opposition, people will realize that the lives of living, breathing animals are truly not equivalent to the feeling of looking fancy in a fur coat. Fame is very good when it is used to do something beneficial. Celebrities are very influential, they have many followers and fans who look up to them. What the celebrities use, eat or believe in will become a trend among their followers, the followers want to do the same.
Ricky Gervais is a British celebrity who has a lot of followers on his Twitter account. He is an animal lover and he always tweets about animal cruelty to raise awareness. What he says will make an impact for sure. Most importantly, he walks the talk.
He is very against animal cruelty because he doesn’t think animals should suffer because of our vanity. Instead of using his fame to make more money, he uses his fame to do something good to the society, this is very admirable. If more celebrities can be like him, it will be easier and quicker for a movement to be successful.

Indeed, it is better to be one that loves animals and go the extra mile to promote awareness against animal cruelty. Many people tend to agree that the fur trade is an unnecessary cruelty and mostly for vanity reasons.
In fact, if the fur trade was entirely eradicated, it is unlikely to have any significant impact to the world at large, save for a handful of those who make their livelihood snatching animals from the wild, stuffing them in unbearably small, likely very unhygienic cages, and then killing them cruelly with inhumane methods. Yet, undeniably there are still those who are very much attached to the elitist appeal of the garments.
Thus, with more celebrity like Ricky Gervais bluntly painting the real picture and raising awareness, it will definitely serve to dilute the appeal of fur. After all, in the 21st century, celebrities are seen as global icons and even a symbol of power and status with their endorsements or views on things carrying quite significant influence and weight. Hopefully, many more will be inspired to get involved in raising awareness.

Ricky Gervais instead of showing up at red carpet events with fur to “show-off” his celeb status chooses to create awareness of animal abuse for the fashion industry by spreading it on his social media.
When more influential personnel talks about such issues with genuine intention, the rest will listen.

Great sharing. I love it when celebrities use their fame for a good cause, it tells so much about their personality that’s not just engrossed into themselves but have a capability of thinking more. To me that matters, because how can we just admire someone we only see on the screen without knowing who they really are. When they engage in causes such as these, whether it is caring for animals, orphans etc, it gives us an idea of who they really are. Very nice. Hope to see more celebrities use their fame to inspire and make a difference to the world.
Fur trading is one of the trade that I must said very inhuman, unfortunately despite all these awareness that go around there is still people wearing a this so call expensive fur coat this is something I do not understand especially the rich and famous this is really got to do with their ego mind that anything that is expensive will make me look good i think beside all this awareness that going around the world us good that the local gorverment need to impose a law to find all this illegal hunting on all these innocent animals.
One form of animal cruelty is the fur trade… The fur trade is possibly one of the worse form of animal cruelty since it involves a large number of different animals. What makes it worse is the fact that the rest of the animal parts that are not useful are thrown into the Rivers or seas. So in turn we are harming ourselves indirectly due to the polluted waterways.
I really hope that people will stop buying and demanding for any type of animal related products to save the planet and the respective animals.
A celebrity uses their influence to get the message across. What Ricky is doing is commendable because he is using his fame to do more than to self indulge. He is fighting for animals who can’t speak for themselves and to let the pubic now that it is not ok for animals to be abused and killed for their fur, bile, tusks, skin etc.

There are many alternatives now to replace fur and skin/leather which are made of plant materials. There are leather made from pineapple, fake fur which have the same effect and vitamins/drugs which can replace bear biles. In fact, modern medicine which uses organic and natural ingredients can be far more nutritious.. We are no longer in the stone age where people wear fur to keep them warm.
It needs a lot of education and people to make a change. We just need to keep on until the war is won, for the animals.

It is always heard warming to see celebrities use their fame for good cause. In this case of Ricky, he uses his name to put across a message to stop animal cruelty.
It is really hard to imagine how miserable is the life of the animal when they are locked up in a cage for their entire life, just so that their skin will be stripped of their body to be used as fur for human being. If we don’t want to be in that situation, then we should not make the animal suffer in that way.

I am glad more and more celebrity came out to speak up about animal cruelty. When celebrities speak, the impact tend to be there and it reaches out to more people. Thank you Ricky Gervais for highlighting the plight of the poor animals. It is inhumane for people to torture and harm animals out of greed. In this day of world, we have the technology to make synthetic leather/fur for our clothes and don’t have to skin animal alive.
I fully respect and admire celebrities who use their fame and influence in a positive way, giving voice to those that are abused and harmed. They speak up for others instead of being indifferent.

I would like also to mention another famous celebrity who is also a strong advocate and activist for animal welfare. He campaigns for the protection of all animals against unnecessary, cruel and degrading treatment; with a particular emphasis on preventing hunting of foxes and the culling of badgers. He is also a staunch supporter of various animal welfare groups and constantly tweets about animal welfare advocacy. He is none other than Dr. Brian May (he’s also an astro-physicist!), lead guitar of my most favourite rock band, Queen.
What is the point of being famous for the sake of being famous? What in the end does one accomplish? When people who have attained fame and fortune begin to give back to society by way of voice, time and resources then only can we say they are truly accomplished.
Millions of animals are brutally killed around world each year just to satisfy our fancy, may it be food, fashion, sports, entertainment & etc. Unfortunately, while some just choose to ignore, many are unaware of what actually happen in the process & how much suffering the animals have gone through to meet our demand before they are finally killed. Arming with this knowledge & using his popularity & huge fans base, celebrity like Ricky Gervais is surely making a great impact on issue like this by creating awareness & spreading message to the world not to partake in animal cruelty for just a piece of coat. In fact, everyone is responsible to do it because all of us are guilty of being the consumer. This brutally & cruelty towards animals is an ongoing issue that can only be ended when the demand stop.

The only way to stop fur and skin industry and animal related industry is to stop demanding on its by-product.
Celebrities play an influencer role. They are a double edged sword, can bring awareness and cut down on the demand or create more demand for the products. 1 word from a celebrities is more powerful than any lay person. At least his die hard fans might follow his action and his pledge.

These celebrities are usually the ones we see have some kind of substance. They last longer, and they really use their good fortune to spread more good in this world. I hope to see more and more celebrities talk about animals rights because they do play a big part in our society due to the media, in shaping our next generation, and these days we are seeing kids as killers, hunters, murderers of puppies… it is truly becoming more and more degenerate as we become more and more advanced in the materials world.
Since young, I loved fur. But as I started to grow older and know how these products are being produced, it shows that there is no need to be having things like that at all. By wearing fur, we are skinning another sentient being’s skin in order to make it our accessory.
When as was younger I did believe that fur products are only the skin of the dead animals. However, thinking further it does not make sense at all. As it is impossible for so many animals to die on a daily basis in order to make the fashion wear that matches our demands. Yes, the skin are taken from the dead animals, but these animals were killed for their skin. And it is not that after they are dead from natural causes that we take their skin.
I remember the first video that I watched about the fur industry was the video about the fur industry in China. It was then I saw that these animals were only hit to be unconscious before they were being skinned. Even after some of them were skinned, they still had feelings, were alive and could see them blink as they just lie with the other flayed bodies. It was then I knew the kind of harm that we as humans induce on animals in order to be “happy”. Harming so many others in the process of it.
Synthetic fur is something that is nice and pleasing as well. There can be items that feels like the real thing, yet we do not harm any animals in the process of it. Wearing the skin of animals do not show any form of superiority. It only shows how barbarian we are. Going back to the cave men times when we already have so much advancements in our society. It will be really dumb to do so.
I really hope that one day, farm houses like this will cease business. To do so, we have to stop purchasing these items. We may think that alone we do not make any difference. Yet, when we stop and educate others as well. They too will stop. From there, with more people stopping their urges of fur. The fur industry will close down.

Nonetheless, more and more voices speaking up against animal cruelty and abuse, more and more people being made to see that eating of meat and animal organs or parts,and wearing of animal parts are unnecessary, will surely lead to a steady reduction in animal cruelty and abuse.
