(中文请往下看)

There are many types of people out there. But one thing is for sure, we are all not the same. We come from different backgrounds, upbringings and cultures. But it’s confirmed none of us would like pain, experience pain or even think of pain. Who in their right mind would enjoy pain? No one. Pain is something that brings tremendous displeasure especially when it’s physically. Imagine someone cutting you, burning you, decapitating you, skinning you or cooking you while you are still alive? Well this is what we do to others. Imagine their pain.

There are cultures that due to ecological conditions they have to rely on meat. I don’t agree but I understand. But to kill an animal is very bad, but to do it slowly is really the ultimate in sadism and cruelty. And if it’s for fun or just our taste buds, it’s equally cruel. What type of cruel mind can slowly kill an animal for just the taste buds? I certainly can never do this.

See this video. Share with others. I stress to share it with others. Don’t say it’s hard to watch. For every piece of meat we have eaten, we owe it to animals to see what they go through to fulfill our taste palates. We owe it to them and their pain.

This is one of the most disturbing videos I have ever come across. I repeat humbly to share this with others to create awareness. Please social media this all over. Create awareness so this happens less and less. I thank you ahead of time.

I suspect the place is in Japan in a restaurant. I could be wrong.

Let me know what you feel.

Disgusting , feeling sad watching the video. Cruel indeed how can they do it. I will never never eat it and not dare to look at it. Maybe it their culture though but not right to cook the octopus alive and watching the octopus dying slowly . The dinners seem to be enjoying, laughing all the way watching it. Give them a chance to live. Hopefully these cruelty or rather these food to be ban in the menu.
Never harm animals, go vegetarian for a better , healthy life style.
Thank you Rinpoche for this post sharing.

  2. Lin Mun on Sep 17, 2018 at 8:46 pm

Total cruelty. These people do not care about other living beings at all. I can hear the laughter on the background when the octopus is moving away from the hot pan. How can they even eat and killing the octopus alive. We human are selfish and cruel. We bring so much pain and suffering to others just to satisfy our taste bud.

We should stop eating meat and be a vegetarian.

  3. Samfoonheei on Dec 12, 2017 at 11:19 pm

That is cruel , what those dinners did to the poor octopus. I will never eat it ,how can they do t. Maybe that’s the way they cook it and eat. Errr not me
Have heard from my friends when they visited Japanese restaurant ,which they saw. It seem nobody from their group dare to eat it.
First time watching this video live cooking of the octopus , horrible act, so inhuman. Those dinners seem to be have a lot of fun , How can they
be so selfish to torture other beings for their pleasure . But I do hope the authority can stop these type of cooking in future. Choosing to go no
vegetarian is the right choice. Never harm or hurt any animals .They deserved to live like us.
    Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.

i hate it when people do this kind of stuff, it is so horrible and how would they like it if they were painfully burned alive then cut up, alive, while being laughed at? people need to stop being so selfish and think for others. it is all for taste and happens again and again. please become vegetarian and stop this. it is sick!

I have to admit, I could not watch beyond 15 seconds of this video. I’m generally not a squeamish person, but this video really disturbed me.

I’m no saint myself, I used to eat meat when I was ignorant, but I was never this sadistic.

When I think about it further, to revel in this kind of barbaric activity requires some effort. I mean, doing something like this isn’t “natural” for us and it’s a little hard to imagine that people would actually acquire the taste and palate for live sentient beings, cooked alive with an extra dose of “suffering & torture” on the side.

And then capture it all on video. Madness.

No sentient beings should be harmed for our taste buds. Why should any precious life be snuffed out for a mere 15 minutes of our “enjoyment.”

    Madness.

i feel so angry because knowing that there are so many evil and horrible people out there. i am so happy that i am a vegetarian and a person that respects animal rights. please stop animal cruelty!!

  8. Jeffrey on Jul 15, 2013 at 5:04 am

How horrible it is to see! So cruel, inhumane. I wonder what those doing it would feel if a big octopus were to stick them on a flame pit and cook them alive? It made me cry!!! And we are called homo sapiens? I see nothing intelligent in such a senseless act; only sadness. Thank you for sharing it, Rinpoche.

  9. nicholas on Jul 12, 2013 at 1:30 am

Just imagine if we are the one being cook in such a way, how do we react and how much pain we going through?…..
If we can imagine the pain what do we think the real pain that the octopus experiencing?

How can we be so selfish to torture other beings for our pleasure and attachment?

That’s is all wrong. If we don’t want others to hurt or harm us we should stop being one.

What comes around goes around. If we killed regardless of whatever being we will suffer from this action.Just the matter of time when the karma ripen.

This is disgusting. How can these people enjoy eating their meal without thinking of the pain and suffering the octopus had to endure to satisfy their taste buds? Heartless!

  12. Carmen Lin @ KMP on Jul 4, 2013 at 12:55 pm

It did happened in a Japanese restaurant, they are speaking in Japanese (I can understand a bit.) It’s sad to see that people has to use this kind of “CIY” (Cook It Yourself) methods to attract more customers. It’s sympathetic to see them having fun of cooking and eating it, enjoying cooking the octopus alive out of boredom is simply not nice. Enjoying tormenting and seeing other living beings suffering are simply cruelty. When one of the guy who is laughing and saying “jikogu ya” (literally means “This is hell”) is so creepy and send a chill to my heart. They don’t just simply enjoy the food, but as well enjoy creating a living hell to other beings. It’s sad that people’s mind are so deluded that they enjoyed the suffering of others.

May they be able to understand that animals has feelings too. May their mind be clear and have the fortune to meet as well practice the Dharma and compassion for other beings. May the octopus rest in peace, and take a good rebirth to be able to meet and practice the Dharma.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this to create awareness of animal cruelty.

    My dear Lama

I have been a vegetarian for almost 11 years. It was on impulse at first, but I think as time goes by, it is the right decision. I do not regret it at all. I think it’s a positive karma ripening 11 years ago that caused me to be a vegetarian that I am today.

  14. Lucas Roth on Jun 30, 2013 at 8:43 pm

this is absolutely horrible, they are so mean and they have no thought for others. one mans hand was in the poor octopus’s head and they kept laughing and i was so disgusted and i am so happy i am a vegetarian. please spread awareness about animal cruelty and hopefully one day it will all stop.

  15. Joy on Jun 29, 2013 at 3:38 pm

Totally disgusting humans! From this video you can see that they have fully committed the 4 complete actions (intent, executing the action, rejoice and wanting to do more) to receive the karmic repercussions to be reborn like the octopus in the video and probably will be burned alive just like what they did to the octopus.

So this also makes me wonder, what was the type of karma the octopus did the octopus do in his past to receive this kind of results? On our side, we should never hurt or harm anyone or anything… for karma will definitely come back…. so I pity the ones who feast and glorify their killings for the pleasure of their taste buds.

They are usually very selfish, cold and egoistical humans who think they own the world. When I think and realise what karma they will reap later, instead of getting angry at them which is pointless, we have compassion for them by well, lets start by educating them and we ourselves send a strong massage by going vegetarian, that could be a start 🙂

  16. AdelineTan on Jun 28, 2013 at 5:30 pm

It is very sad and heartbreaking to see the octopus being grilled to death slowly on the dinning table just to satisfy the taste buds of some of these ignorant human beings in this video, they seemed to be enjoyed doing it from the way they laughed, so cruel! All beings have feelings too like us, do not inflict any harm on them, hope this video can help create awareness to prevent cruelty to animals.

  17. Cliff on Jun 27, 2013 at 7:08 pm

This is extremely disturbing, it is extremely heart wrenching, it is so sad to see a bunch of people holding down a living creature, fact to be one of the most intelligent creatures in the animal kingdom, by chopsticks to cooked alive. I can’t bear to imagine the level of pain the octopus is going through, nor can i imagine what it must have looked like in its point of view as it sees surrounding it people glaring at their dinner whilst still alive. This is truly sadistic to a very concerning level. What kind of mind is capable of allowing themselves to cook that octopus alive. I can’t decide between feeling sad or angry. Thanking for sharing this video Rinpoche and spreading the awareness.

  18. sweekeong on Jun 26, 2013 at 12:22 am

This video is very hard to watch. The people is enjoying roasting the poor octopus under the fire before their meal, a feast. I would imagine that the octopus is under tremendous suffering fighting to stay alive but to no available, under the hands of these people. One can imagine what is running through the mind of these people such as ‘I cannot wait to taste the delicious fresh of the octopus’. I was a meat eater as well. It didn’t occur to me that how the chicken and other animals suffered a horrible living in the farm and then meet with their death under man-made killing machines. This is one of the hardest video to watch because the octopus is slowly being killed and cut up to pieces while still alive. It is very sad for the octopus and the people who lack the wisdom to know their actions is a cause for future suffering.

  19. Shin on Jun 25, 2013 at 9:40 pm

It is already very sad that human eats other animals although there are many choices and food is abundant, morever, to put the poor animal through so much torture for pre-meal’entertainment’?

An octopus’ eight arms are covered with thousands of suckers that taste as well as feel, and they are very intelligent. Octopuses can navigate their way through mazes, solve problems quickly and remember those solutions.

How sad that we treat other animals as “meat” and nothing more. What’s the point of studying biology & educating our children and encouraging them to watch National Geographic/ Discovery channel to learn how wonderful/ intelligent/ similar they are to human other animals are, when they end up on the dining plate anyway?

Perhaps it’s time to relook at curriculum of formal education and see how we can change and not make ‘saving our environment’ just a hype. We do not have to wait until an animal is near endangered to protect them. Every being is ‘endangered’ because it has a mind of its own.

  20. Edern Tan on Jun 25, 2013 at 4:10 pm

Dear Rinpoche, i also think that it is in japan, from their language and stlye of plates and cooking methods. the octopus had a strong will to continue surviving until the end where its limbs are being cut off. why do these people have to do this to the poor octopus. how can they enjoy eating that. That did not even care about how the octopus is suffering and they are laughing at it.
i hope that one day all thing sufferings of the animals would end.

  27. Sharon Ong on Jun 24, 2013 at 9:42 am

    Dear Rinpoche,

My sincerest apologies. I just could not watch the video till the end. I just could not bear it. I could almost physically feel the pain of the poor octopus. I can imagine the sheer terror it must have felt trying to get away from the BBQ and cruel hands pining it down. I started going vegetarian/meatless in April this year and this video reaffirms my decision to strive for a life time of vegetarianism. Senseless killings such as this must stop.

    With folded hands.

  28. wei theng on Jun 23, 2013 at 5:20 am

Previously, I might be happy eating BBQ (dead) octopus and like the taste of it. However, today i find it disgusting and difficult to watch the video as I can feel the pain of it being BBQ alive! Just imagine I’m on the hot plate… gosh! what a hell! Thank you Rinpoche for showing me what is right and what is wrong and I can be a vegetarian now and not committing more negative karma.
May all living beings be free from sufferings!

  29. Karen Chong on Jun 23, 2013 at 1:06 am

  30. Carmen K on Jun 22, 2013 at 11:38 pm

If this were you, how would you feel to be slowly tortured. If you think the piece of steak, or the chicken chop or the grilled octopus just happened to end up on your plate just like that – think again.

People say that it is okay to eat meat because you didn’t kill the cow or the chicken. Think again. It is BECAUSE OF YOU and the NEED TO SATISFY YOUR SENSORY PLEASURES, that the cow was killed. You demanded for it, you get it. You ask for meat, and you just killed an animal.

  31. abby f on Jun 22, 2013 at 10:56 pm

The scariest thing is the people who is killing this octopus are still laughing and they literally sounds like can’t wait to eat the octopus! They have no feeling at all besides craving for the meat. I just can’t imagine what makes them such a person. Very sad.

I don’t know how to let these people understand the pain they gave to that octopus, by showing them Earthlings video?( http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/animals-vegetarianism/earthlings.html ) or this? ( http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/animals-vegetarianism/if-slaughterhouses-had-glass-walls.html )

And somehow I feel regret too for eating meat for so many years. But that’s not the point, everyone can change for better. Spread the awareness of against animal cruelty, make vegetarianism mainstream and go all the way with it. For what is benefiting others, we just do and be firm.

It is not hard to feel the pain. Imagine people cut you, burn you and hurt you like what Rinpoche said. If we can’t the pain, then why give it to others? Don’t deny it, don’t avoid it. Watch the video and feel it……

  32. William on Jun 22, 2013 at 6:51 pm

Disgusting! It is very obvious that the people do not have feelings for the creature and only cared for their stomach. I could not imagine the pain it is going through, dying a slow death being tortured and burned. BEtter be vegetarian than to accumulate bad karma which leads to a death like the octopus is suffering from!

  33. Jay Jae on Jun 22, 2013 at 6:19 pm

Just thinking about this makes you think how sick the human race can be. We always justify that we need food to sustain ourselves at the expense of others’ lives. Where is our conscience? When I watched this video, I just turned in disgust but at the same time I saw how much suffering the octopus is going through which does not make his death any better.

Would we want to have such a long, terrible death like the octopus? Definitely not, but then why impose something on others which we wouldn’t do onto ourselves. We all have a nature of love and care for ourselves and others, why is it absent here?

  34. June Tang (KHJB) on Jun 22, 2013 at 5:29 pm

When I watching this video,I feel disgusting and why those peoples so CRUEL ? How come they can torture the octopus by burning while it still alive !! How can they can enjoy it? I wondering if they know “they are the creator, will experience what they create” they still can enjoy this ?? Please never make another being suffer to satisfy our taste buds !! Please kind to animals,Stop eating meat,go vegetarian ! “If not now ,WHEN?”
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this video to reminding and teaching us never harming animals by any reason !!

  35. Vinnie Tan on Jun 22, 2013 at 2:40 pm

This is just disgusting. They are watching the animal being in pain, crying for help, trying to escape from that torture, yet these men they can just laugh about it. I do not even know if by saying that they are men are the correct term.

Even after physically torturing that poor octopus, they still eat it like the flesh of it is so delicious. It is just so sick as the soul of the octopus might just be looking at itself, while the men are eating it.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this with us, allowing us to know that how torturous it is to even look at it, not to say it it.

  36. adeline woon on Jun 22, 2013 at 2:26 am

My heart sinks when I watch the video. Eating animals itself is already very bad. What more to torture and cut it when it is still alive? It is very sad to see how far people will go to fulfill their never ending desire. It is no longer a case of eating animals, but a case of animals cruelty. The whole scene reminded me on a person who died in car accident by getting the hair stuck under a vehicle’s front wheel and then being dragged on for miles before he finally got ran over and got his head smashed into pieces. Then those Japanese speaking people in the video laugh and cut his corpse into pieces and eat it with most likely soy sauce and wasabi. That is totally UNBEARABLE!

  37. Lim (KH JB) on Jun 22, 2013 at 1:56 am

So disgusting, can we just imaging that we put our hand on the fire?? How the pain?? The octopus is like playing by the eaters before to feed their taste bug…

I wish that the restaurant will stop this kind of service and more and more peoples can be vegetarian as soon possible to avoid animal harm hence avoid for create bad karma.

If we feel hard to be vegetarian why dun we start from less meat then slowly turn to no meat… May more and more peoples every way able to get to know Dharma to save more and more sentient beings…

  38. Wah Ying on Jun 21, 2013 at 4:41 pm

I have the the experience of eating raw meat, but when I saw this video clip of cooking a lively being to death slowly to make it as my food, my feeling is it’s so uncivilised and cruel. I feel the pain of the octopus as it is one of the person I know. I am so grateful that I was exposed to Buddha’s teachings, no longer the ignorance person that doing something hurting another beings and take it as “normal” and “natural”.

  39. Lim Han Nee on Jun 21, 2013 at 1:09 pm

They grill a live octopus, and, oblivious to its pain, prod and dig into it with such gusto and relish!

With mouth-watering zest, they cry out in excitement and impatience, for the octopus to be grilled fast enough for them. All the time, the octopus is dying slowly tormented by the heat of the fire.

So nauseating and disgusting! Just imagine, the table turns on them when their karma returns to them. Then, we’ll be seeing them, being burnt and grilled like the octopus!

How peaceful the mind is when one is eating vegetarian food. No turbulent emotion of strong demented attachment to the food.

  40. KYC on Jun 21, 2013 at 12:51 pm

Sharing this video will help to create awareness of the need to stop cruelty to living beings. This is cruelty to animals carried to the extreme. Animals also wish to be happy and have a long life, just like us. They don’t want to suffer just like us. It is sad to note that in most cultures, there exist dishes where the animal or seafood is cooked alive or bled to death alive. Craving for such dishes must be removed in order to stop the suffering.

  41. Jessica Yap on Jun 21, 2013 at 12:46 pm

How would you like to be placed on a hot pan and forced to stay there while you’re still alive, then they burn(cook) the living daylight out of you and after they’re done torturing (and by torture i mean cook) you, they sprinkle some salt/ajinomoto/whatever where your taste buds are and continue burning you some more.
Lastly, while you think you’re dead, but you’re not, they cut off your limbs and devour you like the animals they are. How you like that? Yum!!

Even if we are not vegetarian, we would still feel disgusted.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Rinpoche.

  42. Choongs on Jun 21, 2013 at 9:56 am

A very good reminder and shock to the system. Reminds me about a video long, long time ago which I viewed where patrons at an eatery were eating the brains of a monkey while the monkey was still alive and strapped to the center of the table with its scalp removed. Think about this in your head and you will certainly turn vegan.

How can people so cruel??? Can stop eating animals by burning them???

Can we just stop eating animals and become a vegetarian to collect merit for ourselves?

    Can we??????????????

  45. lewkwanleng on Jun 21, 2013 at 2:17 am

It is quite difficult to finish watching the whole video.. this is direct killing for sole purpose of satisfying the taste buds. What make the whole video even more sad is that people are enjoying during the process, despite seeing the octopus being in pain 🙁

If we cannot be vegetarian, at least don’t harm the animals.

I consider myself very lucky that I meet Kechara and become vegetarian immediately. It has helped me to stop so much negative karma for harming animals…

  46. Sharon Saw on Jun 21, 2013 at 1:18 am

This is such a terrible video. I wanted to stop watching but since Rinpoche advised to watch it to the end, i did. What is worse is that Octopi are extremely intelligent beings (see this article
http://www.orionmagazine.org/index.php/articles/article/6474/ ), which says “researchers who study octopuses are convinced that these boneless, alien animals—creatures whose ancestors diverged from the lineage that would lead to ours roughly 500 to 700 million years ago—have developed intelligence, emotions, and individual personalities. Their findings are challenging our understanding of consciousness itself.”

I think people don’t think (or like to think) of animals as having intelligence or feelings, which is why we treat them this way. it’s like in the ancient times when people treated slaves badly – the slave owners really thought that the slaves were ‘animals’ and sub-intelligent and had no feelings. This sense of superiority causes human beings to inflict so much unnecessary harm to others, who actually do have feelings and intelligence. How horrific.

Until human beings realise that animals have feelings and experience pain, they will continue to exploit them and so many of them will suffer tremendously. Karma will always prevail though so whatever we inflict on animals, directly or indirectly, will eventually come back to us.

Thank you for sharing this video because it is so important to not be desensitised to the suffering we inflict on others. How shameful for human beings to allow this kind of inhumane behaviour. Who is the animal indeed.

    • David Lai on Jun 28, 2013 at 5:56 pm

      Gee Sharon,
That’s interesting findings you have there. I am sorry but I am kinda desensitized to the tragedy in this video perhaps, its because I probably find it difficult to relate to the alien-like appearance of an octopus. However, I do find myself wishing the octopus would put on a bigger struggle against these guys.

Its sad that they are enjoying themselves because that seals the negative karma to experience the full brunt of the repercussion of such an act. I think, we as human beings have to evolve already. We have to develop kinder and more compassionate ways of living that are compatible with the future. We cannot be still living in our cave-like existence of killing for sustenance. Hence, I think veganism and vegetarianism is the lifestyle of the future and it shouldn’t be confined to just a religious or even environmental concern.

We live on this earth with other animals and have the gift within us to choose kindness over cruelty. Why would anyone want to torture and kill an innocent soul?
My heart cries out for the octopus and other animals caught up in very sad, inhumane miserable act by humans. The easiest way to fight animal cruelty is to report it once spotted.
    Thank you for sharing Rinpoche.

Oh my god!!! That is so disgusting!!!!
I would have beaten up those people if i saw that its just so mean!!
Just imagine you were that octopus and you were burnt and your legs were cut off?! That really a lot of pain.
Is this video enough to stop you from eating meat?!
If this video is not enough to make you become vegetarian why don’t
you read this post?http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/animals-vegetarianism/earthlings.html I saw this video in kechara house before and i kept feeling like throwing up it will really make you become vegetarian just by seeing these animals get cut and then left to bleed blood.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this post.

  50. tenzin llhamo on Jun 20, 2013 at 10:40 pm

Oh my Buddha! I can imagine how in pain and confused the octopus was! It really broke my heart to see the video. How can people be so cruel and yet not know it? When we get burned slightly, we’d writhe, imagine the octopus! The worst part was when they keep pushing it down and exposing its brain.
In the end, nobody wins for Karma comes back no matter how. Imagine the samsaric cycles they have to go through! I really do pray for them…

  51. Gim Lee on Jun 20, 2013 at 10:40 pm

Last week I watched this same video on a friend’s Facebook’s timeline & re-post it on my niece’s timeline… she said the video is too terrified to watch, so she deleted it.

This is hell on earth… being grilled while still alive. Whether they are Japan or Korean or Chinese in this video makes no difference because these are the nations that love to eat animals alive: fish, octopus, shrimps, etc.

If you must eat meat, why can’t you inflict less pains and sufferings to them?

  52. Jutika Lam on Jun 20, 2013 at 10:05 pm

    Dear Rinpoche,

Oh my Buddha!!!! How could such a thing have happened?

I just could not believe my eyes when I even saw the first 20 seconds of the video.

It is just so disgusting to see such a “uncivilized” act in such Modern Times…..

It is really so sad to see an octopus not even being killed before being cooked but being BBQed alive…..

I just can’t believe the pain the octopuses have to go through.

I am so angered at these few people not only are they grilling an octopus alive but as their doing it they are also laughing and they seem to be having a great time doing the killing.

Who actually would have a great time killing???? I just don’t get it but I hope that this video will go viral and also a ban that if anyone caught doing such a thing will face high charges for animal cruelty.

As if normal killing and cooking meat is already bad enough now there are another bunch of silly’s to BBQ an Octopus alive….. Don’t they know the pain and what it is like to be grilled while you are still alive?

MAY THIS PEOPLE WHOEVER THEY MAY BE SUFFER THE SAME FATE IN THEIR NEXT LIFE!!!

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this very disturbing article and may everyone soon become vegetarians:(

    Love
    Jutika

  53. Adrian Chow on Jun 20, 2013 at 9:43 pm

    Dear Rinpoche,

This is so cruel, i can’t imagine the amount of pain and suffering the octopus was experiencing. It is comparable to the ancient way of torturing, whereby they would put the prisoners into a bull’s stomach (Sculpture) made out of metal with the fire burning below. Imagine the victim was being cook slowly and bit by bit the meat was burned. Just imagine that, and it is exactly what the octopus was experiencing minus the ‘Bull’ and the screaming voice. Horrible…

  54. edward ooi on Jun 20, 2013 at 9:17 pm

Dear Rinpoche, I’m 99% sure that they are Korea because I’ve watched Koreans eating live baby octopuses and I also learn Japanese from school. I wonder how can these Koreans be so cruel to animals. They even laughed when they grilling the octopus. How fun is it when you slaughter animals, it’s no fun at all. They grill, cut it to pieces and eat it when the octopus is still alive. How can anybody do that?

    • mdwtk on Jul 7, 2013 at 2:24 am

Does it matter whether they are Japanese or not? Human beings are still human beings. Amitabha.

  55. KC Tan on Jun 20, 2013 at 9:02 pm

This is real torture. Its a painfully slow death and those culprits should imagine as if they are the octopus to be burnt and incapacitated to death. Man should be the guardian of all life on Mother Earth but they have abused this position.
    This is disgusting ………

  57. beatrix ooi on Jun 20, 2013 at 8:41 pm

This is very disturbing. Imagine that if eating meat from dead animals is already a very bad thing to do, then what about eating the animals while they are still alive? The octopus must really be in pain! I hope that people stop killing and eating animals as they do not deserve that.
    Thank You for sharing Rinpoche.

  58. hecelus tan on Jun 20, 2013 at 8:16 pm

These people are creating heaviest negative Karma but they don’t felt have any problem with their own action. We can be a freethinker but we must believe in Karma. Karma has nothing to deal with religion but it includes in every religion, without Karma our whole world will become horrible because everyone don’t need to take the responsibility on what they have done.As a human being, how can we harming others just for our own selfish, impermanence happiness.

  59. Sean Wang on Jun 20, 2013 at 7:58 pm

This is absolutely disgusting. People are truly on of the most despicable creatures if not the most. There is no way they could not figure out that the octopus is feeling pain unless they are mentally stumped.

As I was watching the video, I was wondering how could people enjoy this? Does pain satisfy you? Why do they have to do this? It is not about being full but being sadistic.

Thank you for sharing this, Rinpoche!

  60. Tat Ming on Jun 20, 2013 at 7:32 pm

A living HOT HELL if you want to name it.

Observing the indescribable and extreme pain and suffering that this octopus is enduring, we will not want to be reborn in that realm of existence in samsara! How could these consumers be so inconsiderate and heartless to inflict slow and torturous pain to the octopus just to satisfy their taste buds? Due to their ignorance, they are creating the causes to be born in the same state as the octopus in the future!

Have compassion for the animals! Most of all have compassion for yourselves if you are still a meat eater!

STOP EATING MEAT! GO VEGETARIAN! GO VEGAN!

Oh my… another sickening video. This reminds me one of Rinpoche’s
previous blog post http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/animals-vegetarianism/sheer-torture-cooked-alive.html …. I wonder how they could eat them…

I was eating my dinner when i saw this video. Look at the plate of food i am having. I am so glad that i am a vegetarian.
Yet, I still feel disgusting and even become angry on what have these people done. The poor octopus really struggle on pain and died. On second thought, i pity those eater. Out of ignorance, they did this.
And what is the awaited karma for them. If we believed in rebirth and karma, will they become the octopus next life and killed with this method?
I will definitely share this video. Even if my friend will go angry with me for sharing these. But i think is time to wake them up on the “actual” meat they are eating. How the meat been process. Actually not much different, this is seen by the diner but in the kitchen is the same thing happen.

    • Bountanh on Jun 21, 2013 at 3:19 pm

What a disgusting video that I’ve ever watched! This video really makes me feel sad about how people have treated to a pitiful octopus. Supposing that, we’re that octopus and somebody is burning, cutting and eating us while we’re still breathing. Definitely, we would feel painful and tormenting. Honestly, I believe that “we’ll reap what we sow”. I do believe that the Karma is exist. As I have learned that the Karma is our action or behavior and it’s composed of two types of Karma: Bad Karma and good karma. This is your option to choose what’s best for you in this life and next life. I do believe in reincarnation. Though I’m not a complete vegetarian yet but I’m trying my best to be it from now on.
Anyway, thank you very much for sharing this video I surely believe that this video will less or more awake them from extreme wrongdoing.

    Dear Rinpoche,
I’m glad that I’ve turned vegetarian full time, ever since my visit to Kechara last month. I feel committed more than ever and I thank you once again for opening my eyes and really challenging my conscience. I know it is still a very small step for me (compared to where I want to be in the next couple of years) but I do believe eventually I will find another way. Just because I can’t see it now, doesn’t mean it’s not there. I will forever keep the faith and my prayers.
    Sincerely with folded hands,

Visualizing deities while meditating or when we are performing a puja is one of the principal methods used in the Tibetan tradition. Deities are highly symbolic representations of awakened minds that have appeared to past masters in visions. Deities are represented in thangkas and paintings. As more and more people embrace the Tibetan Buddhist path with sincerity and dedication, they understand better and could visualize through the practice. It is not about appeasing a deity, but engaging in formal meditational practices to transform ourselves. The actual practice in Buddhism is to purify karma, accumulate merits by way of Buddha-deity practice, and to create the causes and conditions for spiritual realisations.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor David for these great teachings.

Centuries after Buddhism originated in India, the Mahayana Buddhism arrived in China through the Silk Route. The worship of Buddha Amitabha arose from a school of Buddhism. The Origins of Pure Land Buddhism began in India around the 2nd century BCE. It spread to China and then spread to Japan around the 6th century. Buddhism in China was undoubtedly quite different from Buddhism which was originally practiced in India. In China the beginnings of the Pure Land Buddhism are traced back as far as the 4th century, practitioners meditated on the name of Amitabha. The Buddhists believe that this deity helps in regeneration and improvement and has became icons used all over China. In China, the Pure Land sutras and teachings are based on Amitabha Buddha. It then spread and became dominant in other Asian countries as well.

Niguma is considered one of the most important and influential yoginis and Vajrayana teachers of the 10th or 11th century in India. Niguma was a dakini, and one of the two female founders of the Shangpa Kagyu school of Vajrayana Buddhism. She has created. a system of yoga predominantly for women. Historically, it is the only yoga series designed by a woman. Niguma’s life, her teachings had a significant impact on Buddhism. According to scholars, Niguma had high-level realization, attained rainbow body, and even received teachings directly from Vajradhara. It is said that Niguma cultivated the Buddhist path in previous lives, so that in her lifetime she directly saw the truth of the nature of phenomena just by hearing basic phenomena from a few adept masters. Interesting life story of a great Dakini .

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo is a bhikṣuṇī in the Drukpa lineage of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. She is an author, teacher and founder of the Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery in Himachal Pradesh, India. Reading this interesting post with the thought of our daily life, how laziness will bring us downhill. It is possible to overcome laziness by setting achievable goals and developing a strong work ethic. Lazy ambition is not an uncommon occurrence . Through not been lazy, it takes sweat, determination and hard work one can be successful. Laziness may reflect a lack of self-esteem, by taking the initiative doing things that matters in life such as learning dharma and practicing dharma is the best option. Letting go all unnecessary secular activities and do more to benefit others will be a better choice. Do what we can, with what we have, where we are and not excuses not to do. Accept whatever comes along, accept reality instead running away from it been lazy.

A mantra is a sacred utterance, a numinous sound, a syllable, word believed by practitioners to have religious, magical or spiritual powers. They are refer as sacred words of power. Mantras are used in many spiritual traditions, they originated in the ancient scriptures. They are used up to this day in India. Anyone who recites those holy words can tap into their source and connect with sacred energy that helps to transform our minds. A tremendous blessing power that exist in all religions . Any pictures of Chenrezig will always caught my eyes on it since young. Looking at those pictures and watching the videos , had me think of how tedious training those dancers had gone through against the odds. A salute to them even though they are deaf-blind-and-mute they danced gracefully transforms into 1000 arm-chenrezig. They are a professional dancer from the China Disabled People’s Performing Arts Troupe. They learned the art of dancing through sign language with other trainers at a very young age. Determination says all.

Reading again the stories of Gaden Jangtse’s Jolenpa Gen Nyima, by Kyabje Tsem Tulku Rinpoche truly inspiring indeed. An extremely humble monk was not interested in titles, recognition or degrees yet highly attained Yamantaka yogi with his meditation practice .One could transform into an exalted being if we sincerely and having engage in the meditations and practices. Gen Nyima’s example shows and inspired many that humility is the basis of all attainments. Live a simple life , donated mostly all to monastery and kept little for himself. Having saved many people performing miraculous healings and giving extremely accurate divinations. Interesting reading of his miraculous healing. Wow interesting stories about Gen Nyima demonstrating his attainments to spread the Dharma and had inspired others through his Dharma teachings. Gen Nyima had spent 15 years in a Yamantaka retreat in Bhutan before returning to Gaden Jangtse Monastery.
Rejoiced to Irene Lim and few of Tsem Rinpoche ‘s students having met Gen Nyima at Gaden Monastery back in 1993.

Thank you Rinpoche and Beatrice Ooi for this sharing and explaining the details of incense. Within Tibetan Buddhism, incense has traditionally been used as an offering to the Three Jewels for centuries, so as in other Buddhist traditions. Within ritual, incense is also used to purify offering substances such as water, food and light. We offer incense as an expression of our gratitude and reverence for the Buddha’s great compassion. The practice of burning incense sticks has a dual purpose, purifying and cleansing the energy of a space. It is said that the fragrant eliminating negative impurities and creating a positive environment. In many religious practices, burning incense is believed to deepen our attention and empower our spiritual focus. The aroma of incense can help us to tap in our spiritual connections. It calms the environment and our mind, cleansing the space for inner and outer journeys. Great article.

Revisit this blog again …….very useful information for us to know where and how our incense powder make of. Reading this blog and coming to understand better of herbs name which I haven’t heard before. Smoke cleansing is a practice performed by various cultures, religions, and faiths around the world. A ritual steeped in history, smoke cleansing involves the burning of various herbs, resins, wood powders, and essential oils for health or spiritual purposes.
Its good to know many of plants rather herbs have many benefits and very useful in curing diseases and clearing negative energy in an environment. Herbs and incense when burned will brings fresh, fantastic energy at home. Its effects are truly fantastic in purification rituals as well. The different types of herbs, and other ingredients are used, which is based upon that which is regionally, culturally, spiritually, or historically significant.

Interesting how an offering of incense had saved lives. Even its an old post, reading it with joy how this little act of incense offering had saved Tsem Rinpoche students. Rinpoche normally has his students makes prayers but on that day Rinpoche led everyone travelling down to Kuala Lumpur to make an offering of incense. Rinpoche usually recites the prayer once or twice to clear obstacles. Somehow it was different on that day, Rinpoche recited the prayer seven times, and then proceeded to ask Dorje Shugden to remove any obstacles quickly and effective and to protect his students. Then it happened,a car crash on the way Rinpoche and students walk out safely without serious injuries. The power of Dorje Shugden that Rinpoche had invoked before the journey. The invoking of Dorje Shugden’s energies, an offering of incense saved the lives of those in the car. That’s amazing.

Reading this blog tells us a thousands knowledge to learn and put into practice. Getting to understand now. So what we experience now is our past karma in what we had done. We must learn, practice Dharma and accept all circumstances that arise during our practice. We must change and practice more to transform our mind , taking the sufferings of others rather than ourselves.
Thank you Rinpoche for these powerful teachings.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
