Would you have a waxed puppy??
I am appreciative of this information as I have never heard of it before… The pictures are graphic, so be warned ahead… you are not in for a pretty reality. But brace yourself to learn, it’s necessary.
Wax meat (or waxed meat) is quite common in China, and especially during the Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year). During that time, they’ll be exported to many countries around the world, including Malaysia.
The term “wax” in ‘wax meat’ doesn’t literally mean that they use wax to prepare the meat. After the preparation of the desired meat, the finished product has the glossy appearance of a meat covered in wax. It is actually salt-preserved meat. In the ancient days of China, there were no refrigerators to store meat… so this was one of the ways to preserve and keep it over long periods of time.
They would preserve duck, pork, chicken, fish, internal organs of the fowls… and any other meats that are seasonal. The chosen meat is then flattened, de-boned, and then marinated with fat, salt, spice and/or wine for a night. After the meat has absorbed the marinate, it is left to air-dry in the dry wintery winds, and for days out in the sun.
The most common type of wax meat found is waxed duck. In Cantonese, waxed duck is called “lup ngap” and in Mandarin “la ya” or 蜡鸭. It’s sold for as little as RM38 per duck!
Below is a forwarded email by one of my friends Kenny Wong. Although it’s not that rare, he came across some photos how people prepare a type of waxed meat: waxed dog. He found these acts very cruel and wanted to share it with me to, in turn, share with others. He himself said that he wouldn’t find it possible to eat waxed meat ever again…

It’s very common practice to beat the dogs up before killing them (or to kill them by beating them up). It is believed that the more adrenaline that’s pumped around the body when the dog dies, the tastier the meat.
An innocent puppy.

Not only is it inhumane, but it looks very unhygienic!
De-boned… Now they are being sun-dried.
Flattened and marinated. They are now left out in the sun and dry wind.
Once a living animal, now a consumable product.

Historically, human consumption of dog meat has been recorded in many parts of the world. How can anyone believe that eating dog meat is good for health when so many deaths occur? This is horrible and the worst form of cruelty humans could inflict on innocent animals.
They can feel the pain, the sadness and the joy. You can see the fear in their eyes when they know they’re going to the slaughter house waiting for their turn. No one can help them and they felt so helpless at the mercy of these people. It’s really heartbreaking to see them treated like this.
Animals also have feelings and the karma of hurting another being will eventually come back to them.

These people really creative in making food. They even look for other types of meat. If they can make good use of their creativity to replace the meat plant-based, isn’t that is more beneficial? This is provided that if they willing to understand that animals as feeling too. The animals can feel pain, worried, scared just like a human. They can also feel loved and cared given to them and in return, they can remember and be very loyal to you.
Whether it’s a wax duck, chicken, dog and etc. it’s still living beings. It makes no difference to me personally. I hope these creative people can try to explore vegetarianism and put in their talent, skill and compassion in making vegetarian food. Free the animals and let them enjoy their life just like us. If we can’t take care of the animals, it’s ok but at the very least we don’t harm them. They have their right to live just like us. If we don’t want the animals to eat wax human meat, so they don’t want the human to eat wax animals meat too.
If the ‘waxed dog meat’ is prepared in this manner, it’s not hard to guess that other ‘waxed meat’ could be prepared in this manner as well. In another words, ‘waxed meats’ are prepared in a cruel and unhygienic manner. While it is a delicacy for some, if we can, we should stop consuming meat totally and be a vegetarian. Then we can truly avoid being the cause of suffering to animals who become meat.
Oh dear …… heart breaking looking at those pictures of cute little puppies been a slaughtered , waxed and ready for sales. What a cruel and extremely gruesome way to kill the innocent small puppies. Eating waxed ducks is already bad enough for health and now waxed puppies. I never like to eat waxed duck as I knew its not a healthy food. Its a rather common practice of preserving meat in China. They are prepared and served during occasions during the Chinese new year. Do hope these cruelty will end for the sake of the little puppies and the authority concerned could stop these waxed puppies sales.

This is extremely gruesome to know and to see. I never knew that we could all be eating waxed dog instead of waxed duck. Whatever it may be, luckily i rarely eat waxed duck. But this is really horrible and cruel thing to do. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this eye opening article to create awareness for animal cruelty.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article. Why does these people in China have to produce wax dog? It is so cruel. I find it sickening too. The process of making the wax dog is terrible. Luckily I am not a fan of wax meat all these while. So, to give up eating wax meat is easier.

Fuck them so much
This is a vivid depiction of savagery at its finest . No animal should be exploited, tormented , tortured and murdered . Although this is beyond backwards and in no way justifiable there is no difference between the pain , torment and suffering a dog or a cat feels than that of a pig or a lamb or of any animal for that matter. We are all responsible and are obligated to stop the atrocities inflicted on all animals used for human consumption . End the madness -go vegan ? .
This is heartbreaking. Many people grow up with such violence and only see animals as a “thing”, which is for us to abuse and kill. This is another level of cruelty, to see these beautiful little puppies being beaten up and kill them at the same time or to kill them afterwards.
I hope that such cruelty stops and that people learn to care for their animals and don’t use and eat them.

The dog meat trade is horrendous and what these dogs endure prior to being killed is gut wrenching. They are crammed in tiny crates, forced to travel an arduous journey from places like Thailand, force fed some choking to death in the process, then beaten across themheadmwith a wooden club then thrown into a pot of boiling water, some still alive and barely conscious only to end up infood stalls across China…..appalling. We are the custodians of this planet, we have a responsibility to act ethically and care for all living things

I felt like puking as I was reading the article, it’s very disgusting of what the people did to the poor innocent puppies. How could the people be so heartless? Didn’t they feel sorry for the puppies? The process of killing them is horrible!!! Shame on those coldblooded murderers.

Waxed duck is definitely more cruel. Ducks have feelings while dogs do not. I eat waxed dog at least four times a week. It’s the best.

Dear Rinpoche, I would never kill a dog. Animals are so cute, I have no idea why some people have the eyes to see that we shouldn’t be eating animals. I used to be one of them too but after watching a few videos and ABC was created I stopped eating meat. If everyone stopped eating meat, stop abusing animals and stop polluting the environment The World Will Be A Much Better Place To Live In.

i would never wax a puppy or any animal! this is so cruel and i wouldn’t go as far to kill an animal anyway. i am a vegetarian and i am proud of that.
I believe “more adrenaline that’s pumped around the body when the dog dies, the tastier the meat” is a myth. It should be the more afraid the dog/animals before die, the more toxin the meat.
Thanks to Rinpoche and Kenny., with the pictures shown so clear, especially with the animals used to be our pet, it helps to see clearer and magnify the horrible part/cruel reality of killing animals and consuming meat.

I feel so sad for the puppies. they body have been slice into half then the people boil them in hot water intended to clear their fur and then they dry the dead puppies in the sun. The people who killed then is so cruel. I wish no more animals will be kill.
This is very nasty.. how can people consume dog meat? I find the last picture very sad, it’s like the poor doggie is looking at us directly. Dogs are such cute friends, I really do not understand how can the people be so cold blooded. It’s so disgusting..

I cringed when i saw the pics of puppies being killed and preserved for food. I guess my reaction is greater because I’ve always had dogs as pets. If I had pigs, cows, chicken and goat as pets, I believe I would also react as strongly. My point is killing is barbaric. It’s like killing a human being. Come to think of it, living beings are all the same. Thank goodness I’m vegetarian. I’ve learnt that we do not need to kill in order to feed ourselves. All excuses are just to cover our attachments at the expense of causing sufferings to others.
How can this be? How can someone eat dogs? I was watching Junior Chef of Australia days back and they were given a few type of meat to choose and cook. And a 12 year old girl chose rabbit meat because she said she is good at cooking it. And I was shocked. It is really sad that they create so much negative karma through killing and eating it. When Buddha said degenerate, I didn’t think it is this bad. Does this mean in the future, there will be more cannibals and killing? So sad.
It makes my stomach churns and throw out just looking at these pictures. OM MANI PADE ME HUM…..

This is so cruel, dogs’ is man best friend….
There are non so blind as those who refuse to see! KH Ng is not alone, for many years after becoming vegetarian, I was not offended by meat and still bought it to cut up for my cats to eat. Gradually, over the years, as I became more sensitive to the suffering of all animals, I was able to see the cruelty of actions I previously thought acceptable. For instance, animals that were caged but well cared for such as in zoos. Once we are able to look into an animal’s eyes and truly identify with its basic needs, our eyes are opened forever and we see they feel as we would in any situation. It is always easier to dismiss humans and non-humans when they are many; a nation, a race, a flock, a herd… but when we separate into individuals we are unable to dismiss them so carelessly. Now I go to great lengths to rescue even the tiniest spider that has fallen into the bathtub!
