How to Prevent Mice and Rats in Your House

May 25, 2016 | Views: 35,258

Mice and rats are not very popular animals and most people would not want to have them around. Although they are known to be highly intelligent and able to adapt to various environments, they can also cause considerable harm. They eat through almost anything, can cause serious damages and can transmit diseases.

Most people would like to make sure that their home or office area stays mouse and rat free.

Yet, we also know that mice and rats are social creatures. They become attached to each other, they love their family and enjoy playing. They deserve our compassion and respect.

We have compiled some guidelines, remedies, recipes and methods to help us keep our home and office area mouse and rat free, in a humane way.

Some Signs That Our Spaces Have Been Invaded with Mice and/or Rats:

  • Excrement – we can differentiate between rat and mice droppings. A rat’s dropping is about 12 mm long, while a mouse dropping is about half the size of the rats’ and also thinner.
  • Teeth marks – rats and mice often leave their bite or teeth marks around the spaces they occupy. The difference between mice and rat teeth marks is that a rat’s teeth marks are larger than those of mice. In addition, rats can gnaw through soft metals like lead or aluminium.
  • Greasy fur marks – Usually mice and rats leave their fur marks along the routes that they frequently use.
  • Squeaking sounds – mice and rats often produce squeaking sounds as well as clawing, scrambling, and gnawing sounds.
  • Musky smell – an area frequented by rats or mice has a particular musky smell.

How to Prevent Rats and/ or Mice from Entering Our Space

Prior to looking for or implementing ways to repel rats and/ or mice, we need to look into and take precautionary actions to prevent them from entering our space. We need to remember that a mouse or a rat can fit into very small holes. A rat can actually enter a hole of the size of an American quarter or about 25 mm diameter and mice can fit into a hole of the size of an American dime which is about 18mm diameter.

One of the best measures to prevent rats or mice from entering our space is by improving the structure of the space:

Close all possible entrance points with fine wire meshes

  • Ensure that holes or gaps in the walls and around pipes are closed.
  • Install bristle strips at the bottom of all doors to prevent the mice and rats from entering.
  • Install thin wire mesh in ventilation holes.
  • Place wire balloons on the top of drain pipes to cover another potential entry point.
  • Install cone guards at the bottom of drain pipes.

The bristle strips will close the gap between the door and the floor

In addition to the above, those who want to prevent mice or rats from entering their space should:

  • Keep the garden and surroundings clean to reduce opportunities for rats and/ or mice to hide and build their nest using debris and other materials.
  • Discard old food and trash on a timely basis and keep the garbage disposal safe and tightly closed.
  • Maintain and clean bird-feeding stations regularly.
  • Review and check all areas periodically to stay safe.

Wire ballons close ventilation holes or other potential entrance ways to your home

Some natural remedies to help repel mice and rats, which can be used as complimentary measures.

Oil and Natural Remedies

Mice and rats are likely to avoid strong smell and spices. The following are various essential oils and other strong smelling liquids which mice and rats are known to avoid. You can prepare the oils alone or mix them with other natural remedies to help chase the rats out. We can use cotton buds dipped in the essential oils and put them in the places frequented by mice and rats. The cotton buds with the essential oil should be changed frequently to maintain the strong smell and its repellent function.

Peppermint oil

  • Mice find the smell of peppermint oil overwhelming and offensive.
  • Place the soaked cotton balls in strategic places.

Clove oil

  • Rats have the tendency to dislike the smell of cloves.
  • Another option is clove powder which can be spread on the ground or even to cover larger areas like the basement.

Eucalyptus oil

  • Black house rats cannot stand the smell of Eucalyptus oil.
  • Spread the oil generously in places where the house rats have been seen.

Amonia

  • Fill bottle caps with ammonia and place them in strategic positions frequented by the rats such as under the sink, in the basement or the attic.

Vinegar

  • Vinegar is said to be another smell that rats cannot stand.
  • Vinegar can be mixed with amonia. Cotton balls dipped in both amonia and vinegar can be put in relevant places.

Other herbs and spices that can be used to repel mice and rats are:

  • Oregano
  • Cedar Leaf
  • Catmint
  • Sage
  • Black Pepper
  • Cayenne Pepper

Steel Wool

The smell of steel wool is offensive to mice and rats.

  • You can put the steel wool into holes, cracks or any entrance used by mice and rats.

The smell of the predator can keep the unwanted rodents away

  • Use a stick to really squeeze it in and even have a few layers of the steel wool, which also create a physical barrier.
  • You can also spray a little of hot pepper spray on it. Please see the recipe below.

Fox urine in powder form.

  • You can find this in home and garden centres.

The urine or cat litter from your cat’s litter box.

  • It can also be an effective method to keep mice and rats at bay.

Making Your Own Mice and/ or Rat Deterrent Spray:

Mixture of Peppermint and Clove Oil:

Ingredients:

  • 2 parts of Peppermint Oil
  • 1 part of Clove Oil
  • 1 part of water
  • Plastic spray bottle

Mix all ingredients and put the mixture inside a plastic spray bottle.

Applications:

  • Spray the mixture on moth balls or cotton balls and put them in places frequented by the mice/ rats.
  • Spray it generously around the perimeter of areas that you suspect has mice and rats.
  • Insert the mixture into holes through which they can use to enter.

Mouse Deterrent Spray

Prepare your own “Pepper Spray”:

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup chopped habaneros
  • 2 tablespoons hot pepper flakes
  • 1 gallon of fresh water
  • 2 gallon buckets
  • A gallon jug and a spray bottle
  • Cheesecloth
  • Gloves/goggles
  • A large pot

Preparation of the mixture:

  • Wear gloves and goggles when making and applying this mixture.
  • Bring the water to a boil.
  • Blend peppers and flakes in a food processor until smooth (you can also do this by hand, but it will be less irritating to your eyes when we use food processor).
  • Put the pepper blend into a 2 gallon bucket and pour the boiling water over it.
  • Cover the mixture and let it sit for 24 hours.
  • With the cheesecloth, strain out the pepper bits.

Application

  • Fill up a spray bottle with the liquid and spritz it generously around entrances and affected areas.
  • Do not use this mixture on carpets as it may discolour the surface.
  • You can use this mixture inside as well as outside. Yet always test a small area first to make sure that it does not affect the colour of the flooring.
  • The mixture can last for months but keep it out of direct sunlight and covered.

Please note that applying the remedies alone will not be effective if the rats and mice still have open access to food and water. These remedies need to be applied together with other measures such as keeping food in tightly closed containers, keeping the rubbish bins tightly closed and having no possible entry point to the house or office space, through which a mouse or rat can enter.

Plants Known as Natural Rat and Mice Repellent From Your Garden

Mice and rats have a well-developed sense of smell. This is why certain plants are known to have good results to keep these rodents away.

Spearmint is effective against rodents and also makes an useful ingredient in your kitchen

Mint

  • Rats cannot stand the smell of mint, including peppermint and spearmint. This is an easy and cost effective way to repel rats and mice.
  • In addition, mint can serve as a healthy herb in your kitchen. Mint is also a great appetizer, refreshes your breath and promotes digestion. It soothes your stomach and is even effective against nausea and headache.

Citronella keeps mice and rats away, and it is also commonly used in aromatherapy

Citronella

  • Citronella is another smell which rats and mice cannot stand. Citronella can also be used as cooling drink or tea.
  • In addition, Citronella is antibacterial, antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory as well.

Practical Methods to Keep Mice and Rats Out of the House

The most important means to keep mice and rats out of your house is to cut access to their sources of food and water. Here are some guidelines concerning food and water:

  • Keep counters and food preparation areas and sinks clean and dry.
  • Keep all food inside a sealed package or stored away properly.
  • Keep your waste inside sealed garbage bags in mice and rat proof containers.
  • Keep floors, cabinets and toasters free of crumbs.
  • Store dry food and pet food in chew-proof containers.
  • Fix leaking faucets and pipes including your house’s irrigation system.
  • Improve the drainage of areas where water may collect.

Pets

Dogs and cats are known to be natural predators of mice and rats. Yet mice and rats will not hesitate to eat your pet’s food.

  • Do not leave your pet’s food outside at night.
  • Keep all animal food stored in airtight containers.

Other Common Repellents

This trap safely captures your unwanted guests. Cover the trap once the animal is inside to calm it down till you can release it

  • A live cage trap device allows to capture mice and rats and release them safely away from your house. It needs to be checked often. Mice and rats can die from stress-induced disorders or dehydration in just a few hours. Release them within 100 yards of where they were trapped.  Captured animals can be kept calm by placing a towel over the trap. Releasing a mouse or rat into a strange area will almost surely result in the animal’s death. The relocated animals don’t know where to find adequate food, water, or shelter and become weak and are an easy target for predators and diseases.
  • Electromagnetic and ultrasonic devices emit sounds only heard by rodents can also be used. These devices will not harm dogs but will affect hamsters or gerbils. The only problem with these devices is that they are electric powered but also need to be placed near the rodent’s nest, therefore you may have difficulty finding a suitable power outlet.

Rats and mice cause havoc everywhere they go. It is no wonder they are identified as the top pest around the world. Thank you, Pastor Antoinette for these suggestions which use natural remedies to deter the pests and they are not deadly to the animals. Prevention is always better than cure, it is therefore good to cultivate good habit to keep the place clean and leftover food out of the reach of the rats and mice because once they are used to a place, they never seem to want to leave.

Rats and Mouse are considered vermin, and treated with a lot of aversion.
There is are some silver lining though.
Certain types of rats are trained to sniff out mines, and in some cases TB, that are issued out using conventional testing and detection methods.

Thanks for the practical approaches for prevention of rat or mice infestation in our home. Considering that such rat or mice bring about diseases and harm, knowing ways which are more natural and humane to deal with them is indeed helpful. I recall reading that PETA suggested whipping up a potent concoction of salad oil with horseradish, garlic, and plenty of cayenne pepper as rodent deterrent too. Basically, let the oil sit several days, then strain it and then it is ready for use. Have yet to try it out but apparently there were many comments that it works too.

Even though my house is thankfully currently not under any threat of rats or mice infestation, am thinking of trying out your recommended mixture of Peppermint and Clove Oil as prevention action. After all, it is better be safe than sorry.

Thanks Pastor Antoinette! It is great to have such information on how we can prevent such animals which can become domestic pests. I especially liked the facts on how we can use natural remedies to prevent these cute but nasty little fellas at bay with having to kill them with rat poison.

I did not know there are so many “natural” ingredients which we could use to keep them at bay… especially vinegar! I love vinegar… it is really a MUST HAVE household item, from cleaning to preventing weeds from growing to preventing rats/mice from coming. It is really is a great item to have around our house at all times.

Really like the whole list of natural ingredients and even recipes we can concoct. If we put in the effort in implementing the practical methods to keep mice and rats out, as you have listed, I am sure it would decrease the chance of them coming in by half. We just have to be diligent about it and ensure our food are always keeps away in good containers. As the saying goes “prevention is always better than cure.”

Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection commonly spread by rats. Consequences could be pretty serious and might even lead to death. As Buddhists, we’re not supposed to kill them, as they were once our mothers! But they are pesky and can spread disease, and not so welcome in the house. That’s the dilemma. So what to do? At least keep the surroundings clean. Dirty places with food waste dumped indiscriminately encourage rats to breed, and they are rather prolific breeders! Next, try these great tips and natural remedies.

Thank you Pastor Antoinette for sharing this article. Rats is a big problem in Malaysia and if we are not careful enough, we might have a pesky little ninja in our house that leave trails of destruction and stealing our food.

The traditional way of dealing with rats will be using the rat cage. When the rat is caught, it will be killed mercilessly usually by drowning or hot water bath. It is very cruel and will create a negative killing karma. With the non-kiling way that was shown in the article, we can now deal with the problem with a more compassionate way.

  10. Frederick Law on Jun 19, 2016 at 1:32 am

Thank you Pastor Antoinette for the informative and practical article how to prevent rat. The common use of mouse trap is being wide use to catch the rat, some even the uses glue.

Now that I know I have alternative method to use to prevent mouse, and which is also more compassionate way. Although they may be a pest which destroy things at our home or office, and even carrier of disease, but one thing we cannot deny is that they are sentient beings as well, and they are smart and intelligent. We should treat all beings with respect no matter how.

Now that I know this nature repellent method which is within reach, I will recommend to everyone about this method. But we must do our part as well, that is to make sure all food is covered, and don’t leave any waste around house and make sure our house is clean, then you save yourself the trouble. 🙂

Rat or mice can caused considerable harm and bring diseases, therefore to prevent them in our house, especially in humane ways is neccessary. I agree that to cut off the sources of food from mice and rat is more practical than to catch them after they enter into our premises. This apply to insert like cockroaches as well.

I found this article is helpful and provides with practical approaches to prevent rat and mice; most of them are easy to get/use approaches, can easily apply in our daily life, house or buidling to acheive the prevention purposes. Thank you for the sharing Pastor Antoinette.

This is really an interesting and informative article. Most of the time, the rats being trapped will let it under the sunlight till the rats dehydrated and died. This is really cruel. The above did recommend many ways to prevent or repel rats. I really interested on the live cage trap which can catch rats and release it before the rats die.
Thanks Pastor Antoinette for sharing this information. This will help us in repel rats without killing them.

  14. Lew on Jun 12, 2016 at 4:07 pm

Thank you Pastor Antoinette for this practical guide to prevent rants in our houses. Rats are indeed a serious problem in this part of the world (south east Asia), more seriously, they are usually the career of many diseases which can be lethal when infected.

Since we are Buddhists, we should be kind to the rats even if they destroy our belongings. Therefore, we should first prevent them from coming in, and in the event we do catch them, we should release them (may be somewhere further away from our house).

I find the best way to prevent mice are to “lockup” our house, so that they cannot enter. Therefore, things like fine wire mesh and bristle strips are really helpful. I find that rats can squeeze through tight gaps, so that make sure all the holes are covered, no matter how small is the hole.

Another great tip is to make sure all food are properly covered and stored inside containers. I find that my house used to have a mouse, and after storing all the food in the containers, they cannot find food, and it eventually left my house.

    • Pastor Antoinette Kass on Jun 21, 2016 at 1:08 am

      Dear Lew,

Indeed, by making sure that the mouse cannot enter, the house is already safe. And with no food, mice or rats will for sure not find the place very attractive.

We are very lucky to be Buddhist and to know about the law of cause and effect or Karma.

Here is a great article about the Law of Karma on this blog. I hope it will help everyone to understand that we should never hurt or kill, even a mouse or a fly: 12 Little Known Law of Karma that Will Change Your Life https://shar.es/1JOaYC

I especially like the natural remedies and oil as chemicals as it is always good to not harm other beings (and ourselves!) with chemicals.

This is a very educational article, I believe that most of us have a very hard time dealing with mice/ rats at home. They breed very quickly and it’s very tough to get rid of them as long as there’s a hole somewhere in the house. They are highly intelligent and versatile, they can live without water and even food for quite a period of time.

If they are not carriage of diseases, I believe that most of us wouldn’t be so afraid to have them around although still we wouldn’t want 100 mice living in the household, it’s pretty scary if we think about it.

Now we know that there are some more humane ways to get rid of the rodents without having to hurt or poison them. Every single living being deserves the rights to live and therefore it is our responsibility to always make sure the household is well-maintained, all holes are sealed so that it’s rodent-free, then there is no necessary of worrying them invading our space.

A very good idea to keep the mice and rat away away from us. The natural way is the best way because they can maintain the balance of the ecology. Thus, by using the natural remedies to repel the mice and rat, we prevent ourselves from killing them and at the same time doesn’t bring harm to the environment.

Come back to the root, we have to keep our place clean and be mindful on our action in order not to attract the rat or mice to our house. These are the animals which live together with us on Mother Earth for so many years, and thus need to be respected.

I think as long as we didn’t break the chain rule, human and animals can stay together in harmony.

    Thank you.

  19. Pastor Adeline on Jun 3, 2016 at 1:51 am

The methods shared in the article highlighted the importance of rat prevention as well as reasons to respond to their harm in a kind way. The methods mentioned do not involve killing. I find the advice to not release the animals in more than 100 yards away a caring and kind one. It is important that we ensure they are released closer to the familiar environment so that food can be found easily.

Rats and mice are not desirable due to the harm they can cause in our home. Recognising them as part of the animal kingdom, we choose the harmless ways in dealing with them by introducing an environment that is more suitable for them. Also, the remedies shared in the article are all natural and not harmful to the environment. This is very important because the world’s natural resources should be protected from further depletion.

Thank you, Pastor Antoinette for the useful information.

Thank you Pastor Antoinette, your article on rats, mice is indeed very intriguing and absorbing. I remembered way back that some people uses cages to trap the rats and when captured they pour hot water over the rats. It is actually a very inhuman and very cruel way of disposing these rats. Your article illustrate some very good preventive method which hopefully can be adopted so that less killing can be seen and karma not created. I have on many occassion disallowed it whenever I come across such methods being used by my own household people. I would volunteer to take this cage with the rats in it and release it somewhere faraway. By doing so it will also prevent them from creating unnecessary karma for themselves.

    • Pastor Antoinette Kass on Jun 4, 2016 at 4:44 pm

      Dear Sonny,
Thank you for your comment. Indeed it is extremely cruel to pour hot water on rats, mice and any animal. I hope this is not done any longer. To keep mice and rats out of the house is possible with some effort.

Thank you for caring and sharing non harming methods and that the importance of not killing extends also to animals like mice and rats.

  21. Julien Roth on May 29, 2016 at 11:28 pm

I noticed a common trend among all the methods in this post which would help prevent rats and mice. And that is that none of the methods involve killing or harming the animal.

Its one thing to prevent these ‘pests’ from entering your home, but its another thing to resort to killing when doing so. I think the main thing i took away from this post (besides the fact that there are so many methods to prevent mice and rats from entering your home) is that there is always a peaceful and more friendly way of doing things when it comes to animals.

No matter what animal it is, they all have a right to live. I know that many many people priorities certain animals over others. Such as dogs or cats. But its important to keep in mind that the life of the animal should be put over anything else. For example, if a rat comes into your home and chews up your sofa, don’t kill it to prevent any further destruction, but instead find a way to capture it and release it into the wild.

    • Pastor Antoinette Kass on Jun 4, 2016 at 4:54 pm

      Dear Julien,

Thank you for your comment. Indeed, we should not killing – full stop. Whatever animal, they have the same right to live than we have.

There are in fact people who have mice and rats as their pet and they are said to be very intelligent. Well, not everybody wants a rat or a mouse as a pet for sure but they have feelings and can feel pain. We should respect them.

Thank you Pastor Antoinette for this interesting and definitely helpful article. In Malaysia we love food and often have hawker centers and restaurants close to housing estate (if not within). However some are known to be lacking in cleanliness which leads to manifestation of rats that often times over run into the houses.
My house has been invaded by family of rats for a few years now and until this day I am sure that there are a few still hiding somewhere. Your methods shared will definitely be tried out especially the essential oil method. However I would like to share that caging a rat and releasing 100 meters away does not work. They are kinda like dogs, able to find their way home. My advice is to release as far as possible.
Thank you Rinpoche for providing the sharing of this article.

    • Pastor Antoinette Kass on Jun 4, 2016 at 6:16 pm

      Dear Sofi,

Thank you for your comment. I found out that mice in Malaysia are often called rats. I need to share that rats and mice are very different in size and in the way they invade a space.

I find it much more scary to have a rat in the house compared to a mouse. Yet, we don’t want both in our house and luckily we can keep them away in non-harmful ways.

I agree that mice and rats tend to come back into the house they know. But as I shared they might not be able to find food and will be an easy prey in an unfamiliar environment. I think to close up our house well so that there is not entrance point will be a good way to keep them out for good.

This is a very interesting article.

When people talk about rats, they usually would like to catch them and killed them straight away. Actually is better to prevent than killing.
I am surprised to find some of the natural remedies is easy to get for preventing the mice and rats. Such as :
    – The urine or cat litter
    – Oil : such as Peppermint oil, clove oil, Eucalyptus
    – Natural Remedies: herbs & spices : such as oregano, black pepper

      Dear Alice,

Thank you for your comment. Indeed, in my country it is common to get poison from the local community for free to fight rats. It is very sad but still we have a long way to go to educate people and use non killing ways to keep rats and mice out.

I hope this article will be helpful for many.

  27. JP on May 26, 2016 at 8:17 pm

Thank you Pastor Antoinette. Mice and rat problems are common. The common practice is to put mouse traps that are in the form of cages, glue, traps that snaps shut and kills the mice and some are edible baits that kill them. Some of these traps and baits can be very cruel and inhumane. When the situation becomes out of control because they constantly breed, such measures are taken by the exterminators.

I’m so glad that there are friendlier methods to prevent them from staying in the house so that we don’t have to resort to extermination methods. I will definitely try them and give feedback later.

    • Pastor Antoinette on May 29, 2016 at 11:47 pm

      Dear JP,

Indead, the methods used to keep mice and rats out are extremely cruel and are usually fatal for the animal. Luckily there are other ways available.

Thank you for your comment and good luck!

  28. Fong on May 26, 2016 at 6:51 pm

Thank you, Pastor Antoinette for the informative write up on methods of prevention and ridding our residences of mice and rats. When I was younger, I was pretty cruel to them as I would trap them and kill them.

After meeting Tsem Rinpoche, I had a bit of conflict within me as to how to handle the situation – to kill them or to let them run loose in my residence. But I have since learned to keep my garbage and food out of their reach. But the suggestions of the various spices and oils as further deterrents are very welcomed indeed. These will be very humane as they, hopefully ensure that they will be deterred from coming in and getting themselves killed by my dogs.

    • Pastor Antoinette on May 29, 2016 at 11:42 pm

      Dear Fong,

Yes, luckily we have met H.E. Tsem Rinpoche and we know now that killing is no option at all. Every being has been our mother and we need to respect them and find ways to keep mice and rats out without harming them.

      Thank you for your comment.

Thank you Pastor Antoinette for sharing such an informative write up. Rats and mice are rodents that are hard to control in any household. Will definitely try out some of the tips you suggested.

    • Pastor Antoinette Kass on Jun 4, 2016 at 6:19 pm

Thank you for your comment, Grace.

Please do not hesitate and share with us what you have found out about the remedies.

      Thank you,

Venerable Ajahn Chah was a Thai Buddhist teacher of the Buddhadhamma and a founder of two major monasteries in the Thai Forest Tradition. Well respected and loved as a man of great wisdom, he was also instrumental in establishing Theravada Buddhism in the West. Interesting life story, how he chose to leave the settled monastic life and became a wandering ascetic. Walking across Thailand, lived in forests, caves and cremation grounds while learning from the meditation monks of the Forest of various monasteries. He wandered through the countryside in quest of quiet and secluded places for developing meditation. He even lived in tiger and cobra infested jungles, using reflections on death to penetrate to the true meaning of life. After years of wandering, Venerable Ajahn Chah established a monastery where he taught simple, practice-based form of meditation, and attracted a numerous of students including western foreigners. He was one of the greatest Dhamma teachers of the modern era. His wise teachings have continued to guide thousands of people along the path of Dharma. Venerable Ajahn Chah’s teachings of the Thai Forest Tradition gradually spread across all over the world. Several of Ajahn Chah’s Western students have since established monasteries throughout the world. Just in Thailand itself, there are more than 300 branch monasteries in Ajahn Chah’s tradition. Ven erable Ajahn Chah used his ill health as a teaching point, emphasizing that it was a living example of the impermanence of all things and reminded people to endeavour to find a true refuge within themselves. The legacy of Venerable Ajahn Chah’s teachings and legacy continues into the modern age.
Thank you Rinpoche for this great sharing.

Wonderful blog written on the practice of Kalarupa for us to understand better. As an emanation of Manjushri, Kalarupa’s practice helps us to destroy ignorance and to develop wisdom overcoming our anger and suffering . Awesome Kalarupa manifested in multiple forms to help sentient beings who personifies enlightenment by the conquest of anger. Kalarupa also regard as one of the three main Dharma protectors of the Gelugpa is extremely fierce and ugly, and tames all kinds of spiritual ugliness. The fierceness of his iconography teaches us to remind ourselves that all the causes and effects of anger arising from ignorance are dreadful and distorted.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor Antionette for this detailed sharing,

Nepal is a very spiritual country, having a huge Dorje Shugden mural in Kathmandu, is indeed a big achievement for Kechara. Located on Charkhal Road in Dilli Bazaar, the mural can be found midway between our two Dorje Shugden chapels which are in Putalisadak and Chabahil. It is also very close to one of Kathmandu’s largest shopping malls. Many locals , tourist will be able to connect them to a powerful deity that is so closely associated with their culture. Well the mural not only beautiful but also full of symbolism and everyone merely by seeing it is blessed. Thanks to those talented artists and generous sponsors making it a success.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on. Letting go helps us to live in a more peaceful state of mind and helps restore our balance. A reminder for us all to go of attachment and meditating on impermanence and emptiness. We are to relinquish the domination of our ego and its habits to transform ourselves. A great reminder not to waste our previous life.
Quoted Ceasing to do evil, Cultivating the good, Purifying the heart .
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing such a meaningful teachings with folded hands.

Winning the lottery was part of my dreams, I tried so hard to win big but all to no avail, until I came across Dr Lucas online who made my dreams come through and made me win 10 million dollars. I was a logistics manager who lives in Lancaster, S.C. and works about an hour’s drive away, in Charlotte, N.C., I stopped at a store to buy a scratch-off lottery ticket during my lunch break, because Dr Lucas gave me all the assurance that the numbers are not going to fail after I did all he asked me to do. Dr lucas is a powerful Dr that is on a mission to eradicate poverty from people’s lives and i have confirmed that by winning $10 million with the numbers he provided for me, it is my promise to tell the world about my experience with Dr Lucas and that’s what I’m doing now, you can win the lottery fast with the help of Dr Lucas he is tested and trusted Email: Drlucasspelltemple@gmail. com or WhatsApp +234 904 794 3567 he will help you.

We are members of the Buddhist Temple in Taman Desa Jaya, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur and we have been issued membership by the president (DATUK YIP KUM FOOK), we are very sad because we are the foundation of this Temple

Now we can know who is always messing with people, and he always cheats money and women, he even uses Buddhism to find money.

Also, need to be careful with his brother-in-law (Simon Low Kok Meng) because he is a spy (CID) for DATUK YIP KUM FOOK and we will write some letters to AGONG SULTAN IBRAHIM IBN ALMARHUM SULTAN ISKANDAR as soon as possible.

The matriarchal cultures of the grandmothers have specific symbolism of animism shamanism, such as the horse, especially the blue horse, and the deer. These are two main symbols of a shaman woman and you can find them in many cultural folk lore, especially the Russian, Slavic, Siberian, Nordic, Finland, and Norway. It’s nice to see the Matriarchal Shaman Animism diety represented in Chinese.

An inspiring act of a selfless Lama feeding strays whether its night or day. Truly an example for us all to feed those lonely strays . Yes I do agree compassion starts with feeding strays. Reading this blog again to refresh myself to do more. Strays animals generally lead a life of poor welfare on the street. Feeding strays is a compassionate act.
Thank you Rinpoche and Anila for this sharing.

Demons are disembodied spirits, supernatural being or spirit and unseen beings. We know they do exist and I believe they do. They have no physical form to them whatsoever. Demons do definitely exist. They are intelligent beings who are evil malicious spirits and are all dangerous entities. Valak is not to be summoned capriciously by anyone as they are dangerous beings when we invoke them having to face a heavy consequence. There are spiritual practices that we can ask for help a ritual of the wrathful Manjushri in the form of Trakze. Having a doing the practice daily without fail, consistently, as this Trakze practice has been proven to be efficacious to break the hold the Valak and other spirits. All thanks to our Guru bringing this practice to Kechara Forest Retreat, Bentong Malaysia.

Wow ,reading all these powerful quotes had me realised much better of giving even I have little. May H E Tsem Rinpoche’s sincere advice to reach the far shore of liberation to everyone reading this blog. The most truly generous people are those who give silently without asking any in return. There is no exercise better than reaching and lifting people up. A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal. Well creating and lighting for others we naturally light our own way. Helping others especially those unfortunate ones, make us feel more positive about our own circumstances.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing all these powerful quotes.

Lama Tsongkhapa was an influential Tibetan Buddhist monk, philosopher and tantric yogi, whose activities led to the formation of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism . Lama Tsongkhapa was hailed as the second Buddha by contemporary Buddhist masters of his time. Famous for reviving Buddhism in Tibet and revered for elevating the Dharma to all its present glory. Hence having a 12 ft Lama Tsongkhapa Statue at new Kechara Gompa (Prayer Hall) is indeed a blessing. Its truly beautiful. Merely by looking at it is a blessing .
Thank you Rinpoche and team effort making it possible.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

Find one of the most beautiful temples in the world in Nara, Japan. It is the 1,267 year old Todai-ji temple that houses a 15 meter Buddha Vairocana statue who is a cosmic and timeless Buddha. Emperor Shomu who sponsored this beautiful temple eventually abdicated and ordained as a Buddhist monk. Very interesting history and story. What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
