I have known Venerable Geshe Lobsang Sopa-lah for over 20 years. This was back when we were both living in Gaden Shartse Monastery in South India, and I would see Geshe-lah around usually supervising construction in the monastery. To my recollection, we never spoke in detail, just ‘hello’ and ‘how are you’ and things like that. So we were not close but we knew each other, and Geshe-lah would always say hi to me. That was something because it doesn’t matter who you are, you can’t flatter Geshe Sopa-lah. If he doesn’t like you, he won’t be rude but he doesn’t have to say hi to you. Geshe-lah doesn’t say things simply to be politically correct or to make people happy.

So Geshe-lah has always had a reputation which, and I say this with a lot of respect, is that he is very direct. But no one takes offence because they know he is actually a very kind person. He is just not afraid to speak his mind and be honest with you, and he’s also not afraid to think for himself. I like that very much about him. The other thing I very much like about Geshe Sopa-lah is his devotion to his gurus and dedication to the monastery, Gaden Shartse. Geshe Sopa-lah dedicated his life to Gaden but now, due to the ban on Dorje Shugden, he cannot go back to the place that he literally helped to build.

I had a very nice conversation with Geshe Sopa-lah. Not only did we have a lot to talk about, but we both come from the same monastery so are familiar with the same people, places and way of doing things. It was a pleasure.

I had a very nice conversation with Geshe Sopa-lah. Not only did we have a lot to talk about, but we both come from the same monastery so are familiar with the same people, places and way of doing things. It was a pleasure.

I can relate to it because that is exactly how I feel. I love the monastery and my gurus and the sangha, and Gaden is my home. Geshe-lah helped to build many of the buildings in Gaden Shartse Monastery; I helped to raise funds for many of the buildings. I would love to be able to go back and visit one day but unfortunately that is not possible at this time. The fact I talk about Dorje Shugden and promote the practice means it would definitely not be safe for me. But when Geshe Sopa-lah previously visited us here in Kechara Forest Retreat, it was such a pleasure to speak with him because we can talk so easily and understand one another since we are familiar with the same places and people, and also both unable to return to our home.

Anyway, someone recently sent me an interview of Geshe-lah which they found on YouTube and I wanted to share it with you all. I don’t know who filmed the interview and published it, but I commend them for doing a good job and want to share it with you all because what Geshe-lah had to say, I feel more people should hear. Geshe Sopa-lah has been involved in the campaign against the Dorje Shugden ban since 1996, and he is very vocal and outspoken and often attended the protests. You must understand, there are many consequences for Tibetans who protest against the Tibetan leadership. You will be blacklisted, ostracised and persecuted, and you will end up on the Tibetan leadership’s hit list of people to target. So to attend the protests was an act of bravery and courage for the Tibetans who were involved. Personally for Geshe-lah, he got involved at the cost of his relationship with his family and all of them have cut communications with him.

Geshe Lobsang Sopa-lah who now lives in Vermont, USA where he serves HH Kyabje Trijang Chocktrul Rinpoche. This photo was taken in 2016 when Geshe Sopa-lah visited us here in Kechara Forest Retreat, Malaysia. It had been over 20 years since Geshe Sopa-lah and I last met.

But Geshe Sopa-lah got involved because he saw the ban was wrong and he couldn’t sit by and just watch it happen, and let his guru’s practice and reputation be attacked. For Geshe-lah the decision was simple and that is, the guru is with us for lifetime after lifetime, until enlightenment so we must cherish and protect that relationship at all costs. So although Geshe-lah is very outspoken, at the same time he is very spiritual and you can see that all of his decisions are rooted in the Dharma and the training he received from the monastery. It is inspiring to listen to these types of people who stick with their teachers regardless of the ups and downs. Once they make their minds, that’s it and they go all the way with it. Nowadays, Geshe Sopa-lah resides in Vermont, USA where he serves His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Chocktrul Rinpoche in Trijang Buddhist Institute.

I have had my students transcribe the interview below to make it easier for you to follow along. Please do listen. People like Geshe Sopa-lah have been in the scene, so to speak, so they know what is going on from the inside out. They know everything that has gone on, from the very beginning and have a lot to share and we can learn from them.

My name is Geshe Sopa. Before ’96… 2008, I was Gaden Shartse, you know? After that, we split the monastery. Then I moved to Shar Gaden and then now I’m in… Since ’96, I moved to USA and now I’m living in USA and since 2004, I was serving with Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and now I’m living Vermont with Rinpoche.

Why do you practise Dorje Shugden?

Actually, practising Dorje Shugden, I have to tell you that since last August, until then, I’m not really a practitioner of Dorje Shugden. But since I became a monk, I believe Dorje Shugden. Why is that? My root guru and my house teacher and everybody’s practising Dorje Shugden, therefore I’m believing that this is real Protector. I believe him. I didn’t have, personally, initiation until last August. Last August I got an initiation in Mongolia. I took initiation that day in August with 600 to 700 people. I was really happy about that. I have a lot of Dharma friends. Therefore I took initiation that time.

Why I was participating with Shugden practitioner is that my root guru and my spiritual teacher, everybody’s practising that. Therefore, I have to follow that. In this world and this… whoever, main thing is that if you are doing practise of Dharma, your guru is the main object of the practice and main root of the Lamrim. Therefore I have to follow my root guru.

When HH the Dalai Lama banned Dorje Shugden’s practice, why didn’t you give up?

I didn’t give up. Why is that? My root guru and my teacher, everybody didn’t give up. Therefore I didn’t give up. In this world where… you need to believe. You need to believe only your root guru and your teacher. Therefore I didn’t give up and I give up all my family. And to tell the truth is that, my family is not important and my family’s relation is only this life, and my root guru and my teacher’s relation is forever. Therefore I didn’t give up.

Have you ever experienced discrimination because of your practice of Dorje Shugden?

For example, myself, you know… I have same parent, I have five sisters and I have four brothers. They all live in South India and since ’96 you know, I didn’t have any contact with my brothers and sisters, until now. And that was really discrimination. Communist Chinese come and did with the Tibetan people, same like that Dalai Lama did our practitioners of Dorje Shugden. That everything is same, everything, action and everything is actually doing same.

But what Dalai Lama is doing is only hidden in the Tibetan community. Whole world didn’t know about these things. Therefore now, International Dorje Shugden Society and we are trying to show this discrimination to the world. I think is… it will take time but it will be soon. The world will know about this.

Some people say there is no ban on Dorje Shugden’s practice. Do you agree?

Yeah, now we are saying it’s banned, you know, we’re saying it’s banned but Dalai Lama and that Tibetan Exile Government, they says they didn’t banned. Nowadays, they say these things, you know? I think it’s really banned. Why it is really banned? Now Dalai Lama says that, “Oh, this is only advice.” He didn’t say he didn’t ban. I don’t think it is advice, you know. If it’s real advice, then those who wanted to listen, that’s okay. Those who didn’t want to listen, that’s okay also, you know? It’s not like that. Why is that? Dalai Lama said that he start this controversy and he says he’s going to finish this one also.

And not only that, he says that those who are kick out from the monastery and those who have been get out from the monastery, he says he was really happy and he was rejoicing that, you know. If it is advice, he don’t need to rejoice these things. Therefore this ban is really ban. They say it’s not ban but it’s not that.

Now I think they’re changing a little bit. Why is that? World is knowing, therefore he’s changing. I don’t think he can hide these things. And one thing is that now, why he is changing? Before he’s saying that there’s some elderly monks are there and whatever Dalai Lama says, they will follow that. Nobody will go against him. His main thinking was that now it’s 21st Century, it’s not like that. Therefore I think now, I’m sure he has big regret but he didn’t want to clear that. Why is that? He has a big ego and he didn’t want to destroy his big ego. Therefore he’s still, he’s hanging there. Anyway, this ban will be, soon or later, it will be something happens, you know?

What problems have you experienced due to the ban?

In this ban, we have a lot of problems. Those who are practising Dorje Shugden, they have some problem with the husband and wife, you know. In family and your friend and the guru, your teacher and their students, a lot of problems. From my side, you know, I have… if I say it’s problem then my family, whole family, not practising Dorje Shugden, and my whole family is from Kagyu. And I have five sisters, four brothers and all are living in South India and they have a lot of children, their son and daughter and now there’s a lot there. But a lot of my friend, they told me that, “Oh, you should think about your relatives, your friend, your sisters and brothers. You cannot do these things.” They say that things. Many people advise me, “You don’t follow the Dorje Shugden practitioner, you should stay in quiet place and do your things.” They say that, you know.

In my mind, you know, I have to think that, which is important? My family or my guru, you know? These things, I need to choose. If I go my friend, my family, then it’s difficult to see my guru.

Therefore I think and then I decide, my family are one lifetime. After we died, you never know where you are going. My sister, where she’s going, where I am going, we didn’t know. This is one lifetime relationship. And my guru, I have to keep. Guru relation is really important. It’s not only one lifetime. It’s life to life, until enlightenment. It’s really important to keep your relation with your guru. And we are always praying that we meet with the right guru, you know. Therefore, I decided with disconnect my family and I joined my guru. What Tibetan Government says, what my family says, I don’t care. That’s my last decision.

Why do you join the protests?

I joined the protest. 2008, I joined in the demonstration. Why is that? That time our monasteries were going to separate. Gaden Shartse Monastery was going to separate. I thought that we do some demonstration, it will help and we not need to go separate from the monastery. Therefore I joined that, you know.

It’s helping a lot but actually, we have no choice. Only thing we can do is only demonstration. Otherwise there’s nothing to do and nothing to develop with the Dalai Lama, nothing to develop with the Tibetan Exile Government. Nobody’s listening to us. Therefore, only thing we can do is the demonstration. Therefore I joined that demonstration since 2008, and I joined this year. I will join in future also, you know. And that’s why. Only hope is that… I was hoping that our monasteries don’t need to go separate. Therefore, we do that but it didn’t help, but I’m going to do again and again, and doesn’t matter how many times, I’m going to do it. That’s my promise.

Some people say that Dorje Shugden practitioners are not united. What do you think of this?

This is the nature of samsara and there’s a lot of arguing in Dalai Lama, always and everywhere, you know. They want to do destroy our harmony, therefore they are saying these.

Actually that’s good for us. Outside people are saying like this, “Dorje Shugden practitioners are not united” and these things, our practitioners, our real practitioners, they have to think and they will try to be united and become stronger. And small things are happening everywhere, and we no need to worry about these things. Why is that? We are in samsara. This is the nature of samsara.

Some people say that Dorje Shugden practitioners are violent? Have you ever seen evidence of this?

Oh no, no, no, no, no. I didn’t saw anything like that. And mostly demonstration and in 2008 and this year, always, mostly time, I’m the one who organise to demonstration, and we always tell them that we no need to do violent and these things, and we never happen these things. And people are saying these things but they always says that, “They are the demon, they are the bad people, they are the harming people.” Says these things but they’re saying also that, “These are getting money from China and they’re hired by Chinese”, you know? They say these things.

Actually, this is nature of Dalai Lama’s people. Those people who didn’t listen their advice, Dalai Lama’s advice, they always say these things, but these are not true. I think other than that, they have nothing to say about us. Actually, in this world, nobody can say that “this is a demon and this is god, or this is Buddha”. Nobody can say that. We cannot judge anybody. Buddha says that we cannot judge anybody. If you are become a Buddha, then you can judge people. Otherwise nobody can judge and they didn’t know these things. Therefore whatever they say, the reason is that they didn’t like us, therefore they are saying these things.

How did you feel when your name was included in the recent Tibetan government hit list?

Actually my name came in CTA. Actually, maybe they thought that they are giving us a warning or something like that, you know. I got the letter. I got that internet CTA webpage and somebody sent me letter also. And I was really happy about that, you know. Why is that? If we are doing demonstration and these things, if they put our name on this webpage, that means what we are doing, there’s… they’re showing that our job is going a little bit success.

Therefore I was rejoice that. I was really happy about that. I tell them before that whatever they wanted to do, I’m happy they can do it, you know. I tell them that my life, if I die today, my life is short. If I die tomorrow, my life is longer. That’s my feeling and that’s my thought. Therefore I was really happy they put my name on that. That means what I’m doing is right, you know.

Are you concerned for your safety as a result of this hit list?

I’m not afraid about them harming me and beating me and doing these things. And this Exile Government, they have one idea that they’re giving the poisons, you know. Therefore I have to be careful. I don’t want to die unnecessarily, therefore I’m doing my best to keep carefully, you know.

What are your thoughts about the ban?

To ban, there’s nothing hope, you know. Ban… Our Tibetans is falling apart. To ban this, Tibetans is falling apart and to tell the truth, Dalai Lama and this Samdhong Lama and these all are, you know, they destroy their guru devotion. Now they don’t have any guru devotion. And they says all the time in this world, compassion and compassion. They’re selling only compassion, therefore he’s famous but actually, they didn’t know about compassion.

Why is that? They didn’t know about what is the object of compassion, you know. The object of compassion is all sentient beings. If you have real compassion, you’re an emanation of Buddha. You have to be compassionate to all the sentient beings. And they think that our… those who are practising Dorje Shugden, they think these are not sentient beings and they cannot come teaching, and they cannot go anywhere. That’s not right.

What are some of the effects of the ban?

Before 2008, if Dalai Lama visit in West, he is going really nice. He was invited by really nice people. He can go in the main gate. After ban, now he have to hide and he have to go in the backdoor. These things are happen and our Tibetans, after the ban, a lot of families are going separate and a lot of teacher and student going separate, a lot of monasteries are going separate. There’s no harmony in the Tibetan community. There’s nothing there. Now Tibetan has no goal. Nothing is there. Nothing left, you know. This is the ‘benefit’ of banning Dorje Shugden.

What is your greatest wish if the ban is lifted?

My hope is that our monasteries have to be joined together again. That’s the main goal and why is that? I was raised in Gaden Shartse and I got everything – education and everything – from Gaden Shartse. And Shar Gaden is the beginning of when Gaden established from Tsongkhapa. That time, Shar Gaden is part of Gaden Shartse. Therefore, I didn’t want be separate from Gaden Shartse. And one thing is that… one thing in my mind is really sad is that I built Gaden Shartse Monastery, own. I worked really hard there. I try my best, do my job and then now I cannot go, you know. If ban is lifted I can go and join in the monastery. That will be really good. I have a lot of friends who are there.

Now actually, mostly my friends are older monks, they are almost passed away, you know. Still there are some left but those who are passed away, they’re not die with peace. They are die with sadness for dividing our monastery and all these things. And yeah, if ban is lifted that will be really good. The main thing is I wanted to be join my monastery. I wanted to spend some times to my monastery.

What advice would you like to give other Dorje Shugden practitioners?

I think now those who are practising Dorje Shugden, I think they know, mostly people, they know what they’re doing. Main thing is that what we are doing is not only about Dorje Shugden. What we are doing is, the main is that our lineage, you know? That’s the main thing. Whatever people say about Dorje Shugden, nobody can destroy Dorje Shugden. Main thing is that they’re talking about Dorje Shugden. The main goal is that they wanted to destroy our lineage.

Therefore we have to keep our lineage, it’s really important. We have to follow our spiritual guide. We have to think about our pure lineage. That’s the main thing. What they says about Dorje Shugden, Dorje Shugden doesn’t matter. Whatever they says, nobody see him and nobody can harm him. Nothing is there. They’re just saying about Dorje Shugden but main goal is that they wanted to harm our lineage. Our Kyabje Pabongka, Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche, through the lineage, they wanted to harm that.

What advice would you like to give non-Dorje Shugden practitioners?

Those who are not practising Dorje Shugden… main thing is that now it’s time to check whatever, don’t follow the famous people and this is not like old age now. It’s 21st Century. Everybody has to open their eyes. Before, whatever they says, there’s nothing, no cameras. There’s nothing recording. Then nothing you can say. Now, this century, whatever you say, you can see it. In future, if somebody ask you, “Why you say that?” they will show the camera and old recording. You cannot say that, “I didn’t say.” Same like that, now Dalai Lama says he didn’t… before he banned it, he says “Oh, whatever happens, happened. You can put on my name.” He says that. And “I start this. I’m going to finish this one”, also he said that, you know.

Now he’s coming down. He says, “Oh, I didn’t ban it. I gave them just advice.” Now he’s saying these things but now, he cannot hide whatever he says before. It’s all there, you know. Same like that, now whatever those who are not practising Dorje Shugden, they have to think carefully and don’t follow the famous people.

Do you think Tibetan people are beginning to realise that the Dorje Shugden ban is wrong?

Now I think, like last time when I was doing the demonstration in many places, about two weeks, I saw a lot of Tibetan people. They’re changing their mind, you know. Still they know that Dalai Lama is doing wrong, they cannot come up. Now in maybe some years, after a few years, they will be speak out. I’m sure they will be out.

Before, same like that, before we are waiting for 20 years, hoping he will do something. He didn’t do it, therefore we came up. Same like that, in future, there will be more Tibetan people who will come up then he has to think, you know. November 5th, he was giving a talk with the Tibetan people. He says, it was really sad that, he says that those who are following Dalai Lama, he says, “Oh, now you have a one new job. To defeat those Dorje Shugden practitioners” and he says for fighting inside the Tibetans.

Those who are practising Dorje Shugden, doing demonstration and those who are not practising Dorje Shugden, they are against us and what Dalai Lama says, “Oh, you guys have a new job. Thank you so much, you are doing this job.” He says, “Thank you so much.” This is not like who is the leader of Tibetan, you know, he cannot say these things. He said that things. That means showing that he says that, now we need to fight inside together, you know. Otherwise he has to say that, “Whatever practitioner, whatever they’re doing, demonstration, that’s their choice, you know. Our side, you don’t need to do these things.” If he is honest, what he is doing is right and doesn’t matter how many people are doing demonstration. You will be okay.

He’s doing something wrong. Therefore he’s asking for some help, you know. That’s not right. Anyway, these things, actually what he says is helping us. This is really helping us. We can show the people, you know, what Dalai Lama action is, what he talks. These are the evidence, these are how many bad things they talks. They help us, to support us.

What message would you like to give to the world?

In this world now, it’s 21st Century. It’s… we say that it’s degeneration world. Doesn’t matter what people says in this world. They say good or bad, we have to check our own.

All this problem, all this suffering and everything comes through our ignorance, main thing is ignorance. Sometimes we have to think these things.

And actually, this world, we cannot tell that this world, “they are wrong, they are doing wrong thing, they are doing bad things”. Main thing is that we have to be careful our own side, that our own side is clean and everything is nice. Whatever people says, doesn’t matter. Main thing is we have to do positive things. Positive things and negative things, these two is coming with us and we try to do positive things.

Whole world, maybe if I said these things, maybe talking like Dalai Lama, you know, all the time, compassion and bodhicitta, if there’s nothing, you know, on my side, I’m always trying to do my positive things. Our motivation should be really important, always. Our lineage, we are fighting for our lineage. We’re not fighting for Dorje Shugden.

Dorje Shugden doesn’t matter. He will be okay. Dorje Shugden is okay, what people says, you know. Our lineage, they wanted… main goal is they harm our lineage. They destroy our lineage. That’s the main goal. We have to fight that one. We have to keep that pure. In Shar Gaden, in Serpom, they are the main important one, you know. If these two are not there, we cannot do much. We need these two big monasteries. We need to do really good things but we will try to do it also. We need monks and these things, the monastery, they can hold the lineage. Otherwise, we have in here and there and centres are there… but actually we can handle little bit, not much. With monasteries there, they can handle all the lineage. That’s really important.

What do you know of Tsem Rinpoche?
I think in monastery, I know Rinpoche. I think, I hope Rinpoche know me also. I was building in our monastery and we don’t have any personal contact like close friends. At that time I was an ordinary monk. I was working and running here and there, and Rinpoche was ‘higher’. That time, our monastery’s monks didn’t know much English. There’s very less people, monks who know English. Rinpoche knows really good English. I think Rinpoche helped our monastery to send letters and I think Rinpoche one time was secretary of our education project. Before me, I think Rinpoche was one of the secretaries. After we change and after that we built the monastery, that time I know Rinpoche very well. I saw Rinpoche many times.

Rinpoche built Kensur Jampa Yeshe’s house, you know? Yeah, Kensur Jampa Yeshe was living in Zong Ladrang and after that, Kyabje Zong Rinpoche was passed away. Kensur Rinpoche was the… why is Kensur Jampa Yeshe is staying in Zong Ladrang? Zong Ladrang has a lot of young monks. Before it used to be somebody else has to teach them. That was my teacher. My teacher, that was Geshe Gyatso. Geshe Gyatso, he was my teacher and Kyabje Zong Rinpoche asked him to teach them and he goes there to teach every day and these things. After that, my teacher passed away. Then Kyabje Zong Rinpoche asked him, Kensur Jampa Yeshe, to move to Zong Ladrang to teach there. Then after that I’m not really sure but I heard something that Zong Ladrang, that Kyabje Zong Rinpoche was passed away and Tenzin Wangchuk not doing well to Kensur Rinpoche.

Then after that, Tsem Rinpoche helped me to build Tsem Ladrang and then Kensur Jampa was moved there. That I know that and I heard that Tsem Rinpoche helped many monks to help them geshe dongo, to take the Geshe degree. They have to offering the monks and monastery. I heard that Rinpoche helped a lot of monks. Especially I know that in… we say in monastery, mostly we say Nakpo, we say his name. Actually his name is Lobsang Dhargye. He was… when we were building the monastery, he was the one who cooked our food and prepared our food. We were always together. He talks about Tsem Rinpoche is helping and all these things. Mostly I heard from Nakpo.

Do you find that Tsem Rinpoche’s work in Malaysia is according to tradition?
I think so, yeah. I’m sure. Now I think actually in our monastery traditionally, these deities, we’re not showing in the public. Now maybe for this ban, I think it’s time to show in the public, otherwise people didn’t understand. Therefore, I saw maybe the day before yesterday, we went in your lot of shops and I was really happy to see these things. Before people was told me but normally, in my habit, if I saw it then I believe it. If people say, “I have enough, having all these people”, they talk sometimes some are true, some are not really true. This time I came here and I saw all these on my eyes. It was really nice and it was really big job and it was really nice.

For example, I was working all my life in communities and for example, our centre, we don’t have like this people working here. Here you guys are working really hard and Rinpoche’s working really hard. One thing is that you guys works like you’re working in the home. That’s really good. If you work in the centre or retreat centre or wherever you work, you works like that’s your own home, if you work this hard, it will be going successfully, definitely. Sometimes this is all noise, “5 o’clock I’m going home and 8 o’clock I’m going to bed”. Not like that. I feel like that you guys are working like home. That’s really good, you know. If you’re just like home then it will be getting better, it will be successful.

For me, from my personal life, I was in TBI (Trijang Buddhist Institute) almost 13 years. I worked like my home. I feel that was my home also. Therefore, we are, before yeah… Rinpoche and we are only two Rinpoche’s attendants, me and Rinpoche. We are there, nothing much. Since 2004, I work there like my home. Now we are getting better, everything is good. I guess that in the future, you guys have to think that “This is my home, I have to work like home” then it will be going really good. Otherwise, you’re feeling that “I’m paying somebody” then it’s just killing the time. That’s no good. That’s not really a Dharma centre. Like another company, if you got money, pay money, killing the time, then gone. Not like that. We have to continue this and you guys are working like your home. I was really happy to see these things.

Did you like visiting the largest Dorje Shugden statue in the world in Kechara Forest Retreat?
I felt really happy. Dalai Lama group, they want to destroy us. If we build like this, I don’t think they can destroy. They can destroy and feels like we’re coming back, becoming stronger. I feel that now we are becoming stronger. Since 1996, almost 20 years, they’re hoping that we’re growing weak and weak, but feels like we’re growing stronger and stronger. I was really happy to see these things.

Was experiencing Kechara for yourself very different from looking at photos on the Internet?
Oh yeah, definitely, definitely. I didn’t thought it was like this. I didn’t thought it was like this. I feel like it’s really… I’m really surprised, surprised to see all these things. Within a short period I saw these things, really surprised. If somebody asked me about these things, I will tell the truth, what is here and what they’re doing. In our Tibetan community, they’re wondering “I don’t know what’s going on there.” They didn’t really know about these things. For example, in our group in USA, NAGBA Association (North American Geluk Buddhist Association), yeah these peoples are now… I have not enough time but I’m working them. These all peoples are mostly people. Maybe 90 people that believe in me and they’re relying on our Rinpoche and us. We say something, we explain something, definitely they understand it, they believe it. Therefore, I want to go how much I can explain, I can explain it, do these things.

I was really surprised. It was really nice, in short period. For example, almost we’re in TBI, we’re in TBI since 2004 we are started. We improve a little bit, not like here. You’ve been this only, I believe, 2012. It’s only four years. Only four years, if you do like this. Like I said before, you guys work like your home. I hope maybe I will come after two years, after three years, then we will see it. It will be really changing. I hope it will change and going really much better. I have a really good faith that it will become bigger than this, if you do (this) within four years. After this…

Starting is really difficult, you know. (For) everything, starting is really difficult. Now you have land and everything. It will be… I hope… I’m 100% sure that it will be success and the main thing is we have to be good motivation. Always good motivation, it helps us. Whatever you do it, whatever people say it doesn’t matter. If your motivation is good, nobody will destroy that. That’s the main thing.

What do you think of Tsem Rinpoche’s work for the Dorje Shugden cause?
Now I think Rinpoche’s doing what is needed day to day, you know. Now day to day is not only going in the street. Now is time to fight with the technology. Now time is to fight with the technology. I think Rinpoche doing that one. Now it’s time to do like this, you know. Not like previous that they’re fighting each other. For example, we’re going in USA, going on the street and doing demonstration. This is directly maybe helpful.

Tell the truth, fighting through the Internet is the really good one. It affects more. It will help us more. Therefore I think Rinpoche’s doing correct. It will be changing a lot of people’s mind. Now everybody going on the Internet. Now the younger generation, without Internet they cannot live. Therefore we need to fight on that. That’s the main thing. Therefore I think Rinpoche’s doing right and I think Rinpoche know how to fight also. Yeah, we are just… we didn’t know how to fight but we have no choice. This is the only way we can do it.

Venerable Geshe Sopa-lah a learned-monk spoke from his heart feelings and thoughts about what happening around the Dorje Shugden controversy and Dalai Lama as well. Those years back in India Geshe-lah did helped in the many buildings in Gaden Shartse Monastery where our Lama helped in the funds. He paints the truth of his experience sharing what he knew and gave a few points of advice. A friend of our lama for over 20 years, Venerable Geshe Lobsang Sopa-lah visited Kechara Forest Retreat, Malaysia in 2016. Geshe Sopa-lah has been actively involved in the campaign against the Dorje Shugden ban since 1996. He is in fact blacklisted, ostracised and persecuted, family tides cut as he bravely spoke about ban and even attended the protests. Sadly all of his family have since cut communications with him. Geshe Lobsang Sopa-lah now lives in Vermont, USA ,serving HH Kyabje Trijang Chocktrul Rinpoche.
Thank you Rinpoche for this wonderful sharing.

Saw these videos of Geshe Sopa-la 3 years ago. I really admire him very much and very impressed with the way he speaks so well in english. Such a cool Geshe he is!?And glad he is also on my facebook as friend ?? Geshe also spoke about his feelings and thoughts of Dalai Lama and the ban on Dorje Shugden. Due to the ban many families, friends and monasteries are torn apart. Good more people are speaking out and beginning to realise that the ban is wrong. What is important is to maintain the lineage recording to Geshe . Thank you very much Rinpoche and blog team for this wonderful sharing on Geshe Sopa-la ??????☘️

Venerable Ajahn Chah was a Thai Buddhist teacher of the Buddhadhamma and a founder of two major monasteries in the Thai Forest Tradition. Well respected and loved as a man of great wisdom, he was also instrumental in establishing Theravada Buddhism in the West. Interesting life story, how he chose to leave the settled monastic life and became a wandering ascetic. Walking across Thailand, lived in forests, caves and cremation grounds while learning from the meditation monks of the Forest of various monasteries. He wandered through the countryside in quest of quiet and secluded places for developing meditation. He even lived in tiger and cobra infested jungles, using reflections on death to penetrate to the true meaning of life. After years of wandering, Venerable Ajahn Chah established a monastery where he taught simple, practice-based form of meditation, and attracted a numerous of students including western foreigners. He was one of the greatest Dhamma teachers of the modern era. His wise teachings have continued to guide thousands of people along the path of Dharma. Venerable Ajahn Chah’s teachings of the Thai Forest Tradition gradually spread across all over the world. Several of Ajahn Chah’s Western students have since established monasteries throughout the world. Just in Thailand itself, there are more than 300 branch monasteries in Ajahn Chah’s tradition. Ven erable Ajahn Chah used his ill health as a teaching point, emphasizing that it was a living example of the impermanence of all things and reminded people to endeavour to find a true refuge within themselves. The legacy of Venerable Ajahn Chah’s teachings and legacy continues into the modern age.
Thank you Rinpoche for this great sharing.

Wonderful blog written on the practice of Kalarupa for us to understand better. As an emanation of Manjushri, Kalarupa’s practice helps us to destroy ignorance and to develop wisdom overcoming our anger and suffering . Awesome Kalarupa manifested in multiple forms to help sentient beings who personifies enlightenment by the conquest of anger. Kalarupa also regard as one of the three main Dharma protectors of the Gelugpa is extremely fierce and ugly, and tames all kinds of spiritual ugliness. The fierceness of his iconography teaches us to remind ourselves that all the causes and effects of anger arising from ignorance are dreadful and distorted.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor Antionette for this detailed sharing,

Nepal is a very spiritual country, having a huge Dorje Shugden mural in Kathmandu, is indeed a big achievement for Kechara. Located on Charkhal Road in Dilli Bazaar, the mural can be found midway between our two Dorje Shugden chapels which are in Putalisadak and Chabahil. It is also very close to one of Kathmandu’s largest shopping malls. Many locals , tourist will be able to connect them to a powerful deity that is so closely associated with their culture. Well the mural not only beautiful but also full of symbolism and everyone merely by seeing it is blessed. Thanks to those talented artists and generous sponsors making it a success.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on. Letting go helps us to live in a more peaceful state of mind and helps restore our balance. A reminder for us all to go of attachment and meditating on impermanence and emptiness. We are to relinquish the domination of our ego and its habits to transform ourselves. A great reminder not to waste our previous life.
Quoted Ceasing to do evil, Cultivating the good, Purifying the heart .
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing such a meaningful teachings with folded hands.

Winning the lottery was part of my dreams, I tried so hard to win big but all to no avail, until I came across Dr Lucas online who made my dreams come through and made me win 10 million dollars. I was a logistics manager who lives in Lancaster, S.C. and works about an hour’s drive away, in Charlotte, N.C., I stopped at a store to buy a scratch-off lottery ticket during my lunch break, because Dr Lucas gave me all the assurance that the numbers are not going to fail after I did all he asked me to do. Dr lucas is a powerful Dr that is on a mission to eradicate poverty from people’s lives and i have confirmed that by winning $10 million with the numbers he provided for me, it is my promise to tell the world about my experience with Dr Lucas and that’s what I’m doing now, you can win the lottery fast with the help of Dr Lucas he is tested and trusted Email: Drlucasspelltemple@gmail. com or WhatsApp +234 904 794 3567 he will help you.

We are members of the Buddhist Temple in Taman Desa Jaya, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur and we have been issued membership by the president (DATUK YIP KUM FOOK), we are very sad because we are the foundation of this Temple

Now we can know who is always messing with people, and he always cheats money and women, he even uses Buddhism to find money.

Also, need to be careful with his brother-in-law (Simon Low Kok Meng) because he is a spy (CID) for DATUK YIP KUM FOOK and we will write some letters to AGONG SULTAN IBRAHIM IBN ALMARHUM SULTAN ISKANDAR as soon as possible.

The matriarchal cultures of the grandmothers have specific symbolism of animism shamanism, such as the horse, especially the blue horse, and the deer. These are two main symbols of a shaman woman and you can find them in many cultural folk lore, especially the Russian, Slavic, Siberian, Nordic, Finland, and Norway. It’s nice to see the Matriarchal Shaman Animism diety represented in Chinese.

An inspiring act of a selfless Lama feeding strays whether its night or day. Truly an example for us all to feed those lonely strays . Yes I do agree compassion starts with feeding strays. Reading this blog again to refresh myself to do more. Strays animals generally lead a life of poor welfare on the street. Feeding strays is a compassionate act.
Thank you Rinpoche and Anila for this sharing.

Demons are disembodied spirits, supernatural being or spirit and unseen beings. We know they do exist and I believe they do. They have no physical form to them whatsoever. Demons do definitely exist. They are intelligent beings who are evil malicious spirits and are all dangerous entities. Valak is not to be summoned capriciously by anyone as they are dangerous beings when we invoke them having to face a heavy consequence. There are spiritual practices that we can ask for help a ritual of the wrathful Manjushri in the form of Trakze. Having a doing the practice daily without fail, consistently, as this Trakze practice has been proven to be efficacious to break the hold the Valak and other spirits. All thanks to our Guru bringing this practice to Kechara Forest Retreat, Bentong Malaysia.

Wow ,reading all these powerful quotes had me realised much better of giving even I have little. May H E Tsem Rinpoche’s sincere advice to reach the far shore of liberation to everyone reading this blog. The most truly generous people are those who give silently without asking any in return. There is no exercise better than reaching and lifting people up. A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal. Well creating and lighting for others we naturally light our own way. Helping others especially those unfortunate ones, make us feel more positive about our own circumstances.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing all these powerful quotes.

Lama Tsongkhapa was an influential Tibetan Buddhist monk, philosopher and tantric yogi, whose activities led to the formation of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism . Lama Tsongkhapa was hailed as the second Buddha by contemporary Buddhist masters of his time. Famous for reviving Buddhism in Tibet and revered for elevating the Dharma to all its present glory. Hence having a 12 ft Lama Tsongkhapa Statue at new Kechara Gompa (Prayer Hall) is indeed a blessing. Its truly beautiful. Merely by looking at it is a blessing .
Thank you Rinpoche and team effort making it possible.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer

Dharma sharing by Hue before we proceeded with DS puja & Rinpoche Swift Return puja. Hue is one of the long time Kechara Penang members and he comes to puja regularly. He shared that he truly believes that Dorje Shugden and Rinpoche always there guiding him. He shared how sometimes DS will give him hints to avert troubles ahead or to alert him when he 'misbehaved'. Hope many will come to know more about this powerful Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugden aka DS. Having Dorje Shugden is like having a powerful ally that will protect us day and night. Just trust Him and have faith. Kechara Penang Study Group, 25/11/2023 by Jacinta.
