The location of Delhi in India

The location of Delhi in India

Dear friends around the world,

Here are some one-of-a-kind videos you are not going to want to miss, showing things that unbelievably are still happening in this day and age. It is frequently claimed that there is no discrimination against Dorje Shugden practitioners within the Tibetan communities. Most notably and recently, the Sikyong (Prime Minister) of the Tibetans in exile Lobsang Sangay appeared in a video saying that all Tibetans are treated equally and fairly. In reality however, the last 20 years of propaganda and indoctrination against Dorje Shugden practitioners has had an indelible impact on Tibetans, which has reverberated throughout the world and now affects non-Tibetans too. My students and friends for example, have experienced this discrimination even though they are not Tibetan but happen to rely on Dorje Shugden.

The location of Majnu-ka-tilla Tibetan colony within Delhi, right next to the Yamuna River.

Just recently, one of my close students was in India to do some work. She happened to be in Majnu-ka-tilla in Delhi, India which is a Tibetan settlement or area in Delhi. After the Tibetans fled to India in 1959, the then Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru granted 27 tracts of land throughout the country to the Tibetans in exile. Those in Delhi settled in the Majnu-ka-tilla area which is in North Delhi, and reestablished their lives there. So in this Tibetan colony, they set up their homes, shops and businesses. Some people, including the monasteries, also established guest houses in the settlement, as a place for tourists and visitors to stay. For the monasteries, these guest houses help to provide an income to support the sangha community they are associated with. So in Majnu-ka-tilla for example, Gaden Shartse Monastery has a guest house. This is where visitors can stay, and also monks from Gaden Shartse who have come up to Delhi to do some work or are stopping by on their way to somewhere else in India like Dharamsala which is even further north.

What happens when you practise Dorje Shugden. This 84 year old monk from Trijang Ladrang was attacked by five masked men wielding knives. They stabbed him repeatedly then ran away, without saying a single word or stealing anything.

Anyway, knowing about the Dorje Shugden issue, my student wanted to see if what Lobsang Sangay said is true – that is, everyone, whether they practise Shugden or not, is treated fairly. The Gaden Shartse Monastery Guest House was nearby so she went to enquire if she would be able to stay there. She was extremely brave because she was in a totally unfamiliar place. She has no friends in Majnu-ka-tilla who would be able to help her if she was in trouble and definitely she could get into big trouble. Dorje Shugden practitioners, no matter how old they are, have been attacked just because they wish to maintain their commitments to their practice and teachers.

Or view the video on the server at:

So my student walked into the Shartse Guest House which is newly renovated and looks nice, clean and safe, and she asked if she can stay there. She was expecting to be rejected but still the response surprised her. Watch the video closely and carefully. My student was well-dressed, professional-looking and presentable and not scruffy. She was also polite and asked questions that any potential hotel guest would be interested in. Once she asks about Dorje Shugden, the attitude towards her totally changes. The lady who is speaking behind the front desk is uncomfortable (but polite) and in a hurry to make my student leave and get out. And actually, you can see that she is scared because she looks around as she talks. She wants to make sure she’s saying and doing the correct thing, which is that she has to reject Dorje Shugden practitioners from staying there. And when she’s questioned, she doesn’t actually know why they aren’t allowed to stay there. All she can say is that it’s the monastery rules and they cannot accept Shugden practitioners as guests.

This is the type of atmosphere that the Tibetan leadership has created amongst their own people after 20 years of insisting that Dorje Shugden practitioners are bad. They have made Tibetans become suspicious of each other and fear one another. But my question is, in a business like a hotel, what is wrong with a Dorje Shugden practitioner staying there if they are a legitimate paying guest? What if my student had not declared herself as a Dorje Shugden practitioner? She would have been accepted and she would not have been treated any differently. So how come suddenly, just because people know what religion she practises, she cannot stay there? There was no change between the time she walked into the guest house and received a friendly greeting, to the time she revealed her religion. Instantly, upon revealing her faith, everyone’s attitude towards her totally changed. Think carefully please. Who told this lady behind the front desk to reject Shugden practitioners? Who taught her to be so afraid of someone because of their faith? Who gave her the instruction and the approval to treat people this way?

The 84 year old monk sustained wounds to his head and hands as he tried to defend himself. The only reason why he was attacked is because he practises Dorje Shugden.

The 84 year old monk sustained wounds to his head and hands as he tried to defend himself. The only reason why he was attacked is because he practises Dorje Shugden.

I don’t think the Shartse Guest House would have problems accepting a Satan worshipper or voodoo practitioner to stay with them, but if you are a Shugden practitioner clearly your money is not acceptable. But the point is this is a hotel and to put it very crudely, money is money. It isn’t a learning institution where people could possibly be rejected on the basis that their views don’t agree with yours. So why is there prejudice against anyone’s religion for staying in a hotel?

What is also interesting is that on the one hand, the monasteries have taken millions in sponsorship from Dorje Shugden practitioners to build their hospitals, debate halls, prayer halls, hostels, statues, pujas, stupas, etc. But on the other hand, they reject a Dorje Shugden practitioner from their hotel because it is not okay to take money from a Shugden practitioner for that. That is not right and it isn’t logical. So again to put it crudely, how come a Shugden practitioner’s money is not good enough for the hotel but it’s good enough for everything else? And if there is no ban, which is what the Tibetan leadership repeatedly and falsely claims, then why was my student rejected from the hotel as soon as they heard that she practises Dorje Shugden? She was rejected on the basis that it is the monastery’s rules not to accept Shugden practitioners so if there is no ban against Dorje Shugden, why does the monastery have such a rule?

Also, there was no sign outside the guest house announcing who can and cannot stay there. As an establishment within the service industry, the hotel itself is not providing a very good service to the traveller who gets inconvenienced because of this. What if someone were to turn up in the middle of the night and they were very tired? Would they still be rejected and put in an unsafe position with nowhere to sleep? I find it disappointing that a monastic institution, which is supposed to practise compassion and acceptance of all, would encourage their departments to behave like this.

Or view the video on the server at:
https://video.tsemtulku.com/videos/AntiDSNepal.mp4

At the same time, some of my other close students were in Nepal. They were trying to buy some jewellery to offer onto a Dorje Shugden statue which they wanted to gift to someone. Watch what happens when they pull the statue out of the box to measure how many pearls they need. Look at the jewellery seller’s reaction and how scared they are to reject the statue and get it away from them. They even check around to see who is watching because they don’t want anyone to know they came so close to a Dorje Shugden statue. Who taught them to be so scared of Dorje Shugden? If you question them and ask them why they are scared, they can give some basic answer but if pressed further, they actually don’t know why they should be scared. If Dorje Shugden is just a so-called spirit and you have all these other Buddhas and Protectors to help you, why are you so scared of him?

I miss Shartse and I love the monastery. I love the monks and the high lamas, and the activities, the rituals and chanting, and learning and practice and generally the life there. I wish I could go back there and see all of my friends but I cannot. I cannot because I practise Dorje Shugden and I would be harassed, abused and physically attacked for this. Can you imagine – if this is how a Dorje Shugden practitioner is treated in a hotel while she’s on camera, how will a Dorje Shugden practitioner be treated in the monastery when there are no cameras around and it’s the monastic rules to behave this way?

It deeply saddened me to see these videos and to see my students treated in this way, and even more so to see monks and lay Tibetans being forced to act this way. I know the monastery and I know the monks, and I know if they had their religious freedom, this type of behaviour is not them. They would not be instructing staff at the guest house to treat anyone in this way. They would be welcoming, warm and kind and totally accepting of everyone and anyone. So there is something seriously and deeply wrong if the monastic administration feel that they have to reject and shun someone on the basis of their religious faith. The Tibetan leadership really need to stop this ban and lift the prejudice against Dorje Shugden people, and stop forcing Tibet’s greatest treasure which is the Sangha, to behave in this most un-Buddhist (let alone un-monkly) way. The discrimination MUST END.

Thank you rinpoche for sharing this article, to let the world know about how Dorje Shugden practitioners had been treated. Since 1996 the Dorje Shugden ban, many Dorje Shudgen practitioners has facing many descriminate. They are not allowed to entered His Holiness Dalai Lama’s teaching, restaurants, school, dharma central, and etc. For the parents of those children whom practice Dorje Shugden, they also facing same problem. This is totally unfair to everyone. We should had religion freedom, we should have our rights to choose which religion we need. If our religion cannot choose by ourselves, and also prevented by our political, then what we can do?
I would like to said, since the Dorje Shugden ban in 1996, there are too many split between family, friends, teachers and students, it was cause a huge karma. Many Dorje Shugden practitioners due to the Dorje Shugden ban had to away from them closer people, friends and object. Here, i sincerely made a wish that may His Holiness Dalai Lama could lifted the Dorje Shugden ban, so that Dorje Shugden practitioner can go back to their home sweet home.
    Thank You.

Spiritual freedom is the root of political liberty. All are free to believe or not to believe, it is our choice to choose what we would pray to. The Tibetan Leader-ship all the while said that there is no ban and discrimination going on in the Tibetan settlement. But in fact in so many proven cases there is unfairness , discrimination do surfaced. Sad ….. the Tibetan Leadership has created much sufferings against Dorje Shugden practitioners as shown in these videos. No matter what religion we are regardless of race we should be given a fair treatment. Its ridiculous just because Su Ming is Dorje Shugden practitioners she is not accepted into the hotel and buying as well. Could not imagine and believe it these still happening in this day. There should be no discrimination and segregation among the communities or tourist or whoever so even though they are not Tibetan but happen to rely on Dorje Shugden. May the ban be lifted soon.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

    Dear friends,

Tibet has produced many powerful meditations, rituals and guidelines to help us gain spiritual protection, gain wisdom and higher states of consciousness. In general Tibet has produced many powerful methods for the growth of our spiritual evolution. Dorje Shugden is an angel, a saint, a powerful spiritual protector-warrior who originated 350 years ago when a highly awakened Tibetan Lama fulfilled his vows to become a special being to grant protection, wisdom, material needs, safety when travelling (normal and astral travel) and spiritual awakening. Both the Great 5th Dalai Lama and the current His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama composed short yet effective prayers to invoke upon the power and blessings of this special saint and protector. One can recite either one of the prayers that you feel suits you, anytime or even daily. When you feel a special need for help, you can recite either prayer anytime. When you are feeling down, afraid or just need a blessing, you can recite them. After reciting either invocation, it is good to chant the mantra of Dorje Shugden: Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha.

You do not have to be a Buddhist or practitioner of any religion to invoke upon the blessings and protection of this special enlightened and awakened angel Dorje Shugden. He helps all without discrimination or bias as he is filled with compassion and love. Divinity has no boundaries, they help all who call upon them.

Enclosed are the prayers in English, Chinese and Tibetan.

May you be safe, protected and blessed.

Divination (‘mo’) Text by Dorje Shugden

This is an important divination (‘mo’) text composed by Dorje Shugden himself. Dorje Shugden took trance of the Choyang Dulzin oracle lama, the senior oracle of Gaden Shartse Monastery, and instantly on the spot composed this text within two hours.

The divination text contains information on how to use dice to do divination for the future and is known to be highly accurate. When practitioners use this text, they will be in direct contact with Dorje Shugden to get answers to questions about the future. It is for those who have good samaya with Dorje Shugden and are free of the eight worldly dharmas to be of benefit to others in divining the future.

Ever since the Dorje Shugden ban was imposed 20 years ago, the Dorje Shugden practitioners have suffered a lot. The CTA issued a directive to the Tibetans telling them to not have any connection with Dorje Shugden practitioners. Families, friends, teachers, and students are split due to the difference in their faiths.

The CTA said there is no ban on Dorje Shugden practice, this is not true at all. There are notices put up to stop Dorje Shugden practitioners from frequenting. Dorje Shugden practitioner is not allowed to frequent restaurants, shops, guest house, and temples. In addition, Dorje Shugden practitioners are hurt physically. Nothing was done by the CTA to stop these harmful behaviors.

These 2 videos are another solid proof of the ban. People are turned away because they are Dorje Shugden practitioners. In general ,when people know you practice Dorje Shugden, they will reject you just like how they did in the videos. The CTA should lift the ban as soon as possible beacuse it causes separation and disharmony in the Tibetan community.

His Holiness the 10th Panchen Lama

Tibetans commonly refer to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama as the “sun and moon” of Tibetan Buddhism. They are the center of Tibetan Buddhist civilization, which draws to its sphere of influence millions of non-Tibetan practitioners. The Panchen Lama’s incarnation line began with the 16th abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen (1570 – 1662). He was bestowed the title of Panchen Lama by His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama after being declared as an emanation of Amitabha.

After being given the title, his three previous incarnations were posthumously also bestowed the title, making Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen the 4th Panchen Lama. He became a teacher to many Tibetans, Bhutanese and Mongolian religious figures, including His Holiness the 4th and 5th Dalai Lamas, and the 1st Jetsun Dampa of Mongolia. A prolific author, Chokyi Gyeltsen is credited with over a hundred compositions, including a number of commentaries and ritual texts that remain central in the Gelukpa tradition today. Along with his role as a teacher of the Dharma, the Panchen Lamas are usually responsible for the recognition of the rebirths of the Dalai Lamas, and vice versa.

The 10th Panchen Lama, Lobsang Trinley Lhundrub Chokyi Gyeltsen (19 February 1938 – 28 January 1989) continued both the spiritual and political roles of his predecessors. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, his contemporary, was even heard to say and echo the Panchen Lama’s own words that the Dalai Lama would safeguard Tibet from the outside while the Panchen Lama would safeguard Tibet from the inside, as he never left Tibet after the political troubles of 1959. He was truly loved by the Tibetans, all the way until his passing. When he taught, thousands of people would attend, not only from his own Gelug lineage, but masters and practitioners from all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

At his sprawling monastery of Tashi Lhunpo, he has a special chapel specifically dedicated to Dorje Shugden, where prayers and rituals are performed on a daily basis. In his great omniscience the Panchen Lama held Dorje Shugden as the principal Dharma protector of the monastery. He also personally propitiated Dorje Shugden among other Dharma protectors, and even wrote extensive prayers and rituals to Dorje Shugden. These rituals and prayers are contained within his ‘sung bum’ or collected works, which are provided here. As such a great lama, with an erudite and clear understanding of the Buddhist scriptures, a teacher to millions in both Tibet and China, from an established incarnation line and an emanation of the Buddha Amitabha, he could not be mistaken about his practice of Dorje Shugden.

His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama is known for his composition of commentaries and practice texts that are still in use by contemporary Buddhist practitioners both in Tibet and across the world. One of these is a powerful ritual composition propitiating the compassionate Dorje Shugden.

Upon the request by Acharya Lobsang Jangchub to compose a shorter version of the prayer (sadhana) for the exhortation of activities of Dorje Shugden, Panchen Lama immediately composed an abbreviate form of Dorje Shugden’s Kangsol. This text is entitled “Manjunatha’s (Tsongkapa) Lineage protector Dorje Shugden and five forms wrathful propitiations and confessional prayers and fulfilment of activities rites” or “Melodious sound of Accomplishment of the Four Activities” for short. Once the prayers were completed, he had signs and strong feelings that Dorje Shugden has been working hard to protect the Buddhadharma in general and the lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa specifically.

Mirroring the abilities of one of his earlier incarnations, Khedrub Je, a disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa and master of both sutra and tantra, the Panchen Lama used his compositional skill and poetic prowess to create a masterful sadhana. Worthy of note is a praise in which the first letter of each verse is a Tibetan vowel. Such compositions are rarely seen, and have historically only been used when propitiating senior Dharma protectors such as Palden Lhamo and Kalarupa.

The Panchen Lama also stated that while composing the Dorje Shugden sadhana (prayers) he was filled with a sense of happiness and bliss. He ends the composition with not only his official title but his ordination name, Tenzin Trinley Jigme Choje Wangchuk, endorsing the validity of his work. He composed the sadhana in his own Tashi Lhunpo monastery while in the Hall of Clear Light and Bliss.

For the first time available, Dorje Shugden and his entourage of 32 assistants of his mandala.

Dorje Shugden is a powerful protector deity who is also an emanation of Manjushri, a wisdom bestowing Buddha. Therefore, he has great ability to help us to progress further on the spiritual path. He does this by helping us to overcome obstacles and problems for the modern individual.

Due to his enlightened nature, Dorje Shugden is able to manifest 32 deities and within the same abode resides Setrap and Kache Marpo:-

    1. 5 Dorje Shugden families or emanations. They consists of the following:-

    – Dulzin Dorje Shugden, which performs activities to eliminate inner and outer obstacles.
    – Shize, which performs activities to pacify all illnesses and disease.
    – Gyenze, which performs activities to increase all desirable material and spiritual wealth.
    – Wangze, which performs activities to control difficult people and circumstances.
    – Trakze, which performs activities to wrathfully eliminate all insurmountable obstacles and life-threatening situations.

    2. 9 Mothers. They represent protection of the five senses and developing control of the four elements. These are all attributes that signify their ability to assist tantric practitioners with their higher meditations.

    3. 8 Guiding Monks. They represent the Eight Great Bodhisattvas (Avalokitesvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Samantabhadra, Maitreya, Kshitigarbha, Akashagarbha, Sarva-nivarana-viskambini) and they bring about the growth of the Dharma, through the Sangha, Dharma practitioners and Dharma establishments.

    4. 10 Youthful & Wrathful Attendants. They represent the ten wrathful attendants to avert inner and outer obstacles. They are beings who are from Mongolia, China, Kashmir, India, Bengali, etc.

    5. Setrap. He is a senior Dharma Protector from India and an emanation of Amitabha Buddha. He had enthroned Dorje Shugden as an authentic Dharma Protector. Therefore, he also resides within the same mandala of Dorje Shugden.

    6. Kache Marpo. He is not an emanation of Dorje Shugden but he is still an enlightened Dharma Protector in his own right. He was originally known as Tsiu Marpo of Samye Monastery. However, he has placed himself under the service of Dorje Shugden as his chief minister, performing many activities in order to protect and benefit practitioners. Therefore, he stands guard at the main entrance of Dorje Shugden’s mandala. He often takes trance of qualified mediums to speak.

The ban on Dorje Shugden practitioners are so apparent in those places. And how can the CTA said there is no ban and discrimination? They are creating so much fear among the people which we can clearly see in the videos. Question is being a committed government, they should take care of the welfare of everyone regardless of their belief, race and colours. There should be no discrimination and segregation among the communities. I hope the ban will be lifted and the people in “Little Tibet” can regain their basic human rights that is freedom of religion very soon.

It is indeed so sad that the Tibetan Leadership has created this ugly treatment against Dorje Shugden practitioners. My fond memories of Gaden Shartse and all the monks who were kind and hospitable has to be destroyed by such unpleasant discrimination.

I wonder if all the donations to the monastries that were made by Malaysian Shugden people will be refunded in view of this discrimination against Shugden people.

  14. Irene Lim on Nov 14, 2017 at 11:00 am

This illogical ban on Dorje Shugden is causing so much havoc and suffering to many people for the past 20 years. It is senseless to continue to segregate Shugden practitioners and cause disharmony and disunity. It is time now the Tibetan leadership stop discrimination and focus to make peace for humanity. The ban should be lifted immediately.

There are no perfection in any society, but any country who has a plural society knows it is not a beneficial situation to discriminate against another race. America had its fair share of civil rights movement, Hitler tried to wipe out the Jewish populations, genocide in Yugoslavia and parts of Africa, South African apartheid and the list goes on.

The people who discriminated against others and even committed the negative acts against the discriminated, nothing ever good came out from it. I wish the CTA and Tibetan people will understand that nothing good and benefical, comes out from discriminating and segregating their own people and dharma people.

This is clear evidence how CTA discriminating Sudden people, even in Nepal how they the lady reacted towords DS staue, for CTA this means if u practice DS you are not human as simple as that. We are living in a 21st century, we can do whatever we want and whatever practice up to us as long as we don’t hurt anyone. This DS ban has brought only suffering in the society and bringing the Buddhism down by fighting with each other. wouldn’t be nice if CTA seat down the Shugden people and come out with the solution so everyone live in a peace as how H.H. Dalai Lama preaches all the time…

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing the video and your view on the discrimination imposed to the Shugden’s practitioners inclusive of non-Tibetan in this real incident. This sad and shocking news of our Dharma sisters being rejected from the hotel and another at the jewellery shop just they practice Dorje Shugden. What struck me is how quickly the nice lady behind the hotel front desk recoiled as soon as she heard the name Dorje Shugden. It was not personal and she was just doing s she has been told to do. I hope more people will make a stand, speak up for human rights to religious freedom and end Shugden ban on social media soon!

  21. Echeah on Feb 19, 2017 at 11:12 pm

Wow this kind of discrimination is real. So to avoid being discriminated against, people need to keep their practice a secret to avoid being shunned like the plague. I would suppose that if you did not mention anything about your belief and worse, if you are questioned you deny it, then everything would be ok and you can live a sub-normal life tip-toeing around. That is a sad situation.

Though this is based on religious belief, there are many other kinds of discrimination humankind imposes on each other, based on race, social standing, skin colour, appearance, caste, gender, sexual preference, nationality, you name it. People like to stereotype people and then categorise them into desirable and undesirable. This is the dualistic mind.

  22. Lew on Feb 19, 2017 at 7:05 pm

In this video, we can see that people are so nervous when they heard that she is Dorje Shugden practitioners. The fear is so strong it immediately check around as if there is camera recording their actions. This is the result of 20+ years of applying the ban.

It is quite ironic that, on one hand, the CTA is asking the world to uphold democracy and give Tibet freedom, but on the other hand, they segregate people by applying the ban on Dorje Shugden.

It is time to stop the ban and unite all Tibetans.

  23. Choong on Feb 19, 2017 at 1:48 pm

I do not have any negative feelings for the individuals in the hotel or the vendors in the videos. They are just a reflection of the world populace (i.e. embracers of popular myths, dodgy “science”, groups, teams, etc.) and I should not be sitting in my high chair to criticize them as I am sure I too, in a different way, am as guilty as them.

What is important to me is that myths have to be quelled so I will continue to do that. In this case, the results of practising Dorje Shugden for “his” qualities is contrary to what one would expect from propitiating a vengeful spirit. So as in pure science, the CTA, the monasteries or any one else, cannot logically or empirically prove that Dorje Shugden is a vengeful spirit. That myth must be put to rest before more people like these are led astray from truth.

Your Holiness Dalai Lama, please clearly lift the ban and bring down the walls.

It is interesting sometimes to think of this, we someone open for business, it is meant to make profit and when the guests / customers is not harming the business, then everyone should be welcome, more customers = more income to the business, doesn’t make sense we reject the customers.

Second, this hotel is opened by a monastery, means it is using Dharma money to operate this hotel, and pay for rental, all expenses, etc. So when they turn down a customer, means the monastery may have to spend more money to cover the expenses and income reduced due to turning down customers.

Third, When a business operate by a monastery, their motivation must be benefiting others, means when money made from the hotel, it will be used for spreading Dharma or to maintain the monastery so that the monastery can sustain and train more sangha, when they turn down customers they do not like or people who do not go along with their belief, then how to run the hotel successfully.

Forth, when they turn down Dorje Shugden practitioners, reason being is because Dorje Shugden is a spirit, then do they turn down also Black Magic practitioners? Do they turn down people who practice Toyol? or do they turn down Gangsters who wanted to stay there? Liars? Cheaters? Aren’t they equivalent dangerous as well? If just pick one and not the others, then where is the equanimity, peace, harmony, compassion etc, that Buddha taught?

Thank you Suming for your kind and brave act to bring the truth that the ban on Dorje Shugden is still exist, they ban DS practitioners is because they follow Dalai Lama’s footstep, that’s very great, but now since Dalai Lama has mentioned we can practice Dorje Shugden, why do they still ban the practitioners to use their facilities? does it mean they are going against Dalai Lama’s words? Why is the monastery(s) practicing double standard procedure?

Compassion and discrimination cannot co-exist, you cannot be compassion sometimes and discriminate sometimes then be compassion again, if the monastery already behaving like this, what more do we expect the other sanghas from all around the world? Discrimination must stop, Gaden Monastery must pick the stand and follow Buddha’s teaching, or else, Dharma will disappear very very soon.

I am European. My friend is Chinese working 30 years in Europe. He has family in China. We often discuss news & how the leaders of both countries act. When analysed sometimes they act in similar ways! Although no one wants to admit this. Religious practice is no one’s business but your own. If you find your prayers work for you – great. Centuries ago Catholic priests were banned in some places. They hid in people’s houses. They taught in hedge schools – people sat under hedges in fields to learn. Now some priests hide from the law because they act illegally. Times change. Fear is a weapon. We need to try & see through fear to what is really going on. Not an easy thing to do, but worthwhile. If we find a practice beneficial I think we should say so. It may help others. As I understand it Tibetan Buddhism believes in reincarnation therefore it is silly to deride anyone or anything when we may have been that in the past or could be that in the future. Discrimination is the unjust or prejudicial treatment of someone. It seems strange that Buddhists (or Catholics) discriminate against anyone given the teachers of those religions – the Lord Buddha (the Lord Jesus’s Christ). But I suppose we are mere mortals and that is why we do the things we do. It seems that around the globe at the moment people need to stand up for what they believe is right. Apparently Tsem Rinpoche, Lama Tsongkhapa and Dorje Shugden is part of that.

Sad and shocking to read discrimination happens this days even with Dalai Lama saying that we can practice Dorje Shugden and it does not harm him.Although CTA has denied, there is a ban.Our very own Dharm sister and friends were denied services to stay in the hotel just because of their religion. This is such strong discrimination which should not have happen. This episode is living proof that the ban on Dorje Shugden is painfully real.Su Ming was very valorous and brave to admit that she is a Dorje Shugden practitioner.
No matter what religion we are regardless of race we should be given freedom to practice and treated fairly. Its our choice to choose what we would pray to.

After I watched the first video about Guru’s student been rejected to stay in hotel, I feel shock and sad. How can a hotel rejected a guest base on his or her religions?Furthermore, the two ladies can’t even tell us one reason why Dorje Shugden practitioners can’t stay in their hotel. This must be a instruction from senior level to reject all DS practitioners guests.
Does this meant discrimination of religions?Tibetan government must take full responsibility on this issue because Sikyong(Tibet Prime Minister) did say that no discrimination on DS practitioners. Ironically, Monastery can reseceive sponsorship from DS practitioners but not allow DS practitioners to stay.
The second video is DS practitioners been rejected to buy Jewelry in Nepal. All these discrimination are caused by Tibetan spiritual leader who banned DS since 1996. Recently , H.H Dalai Lama said Tibetan can free to practice DS but H.H didn’t say lift DS ban. Does it meant that people around the world still keep sideline to see and not dare to practice DS.
DS banned must lift soon in order to the world to accept DS practitioners. This banned really caused many in sufferings and family can’t reunion. I plea to Tibetan leader to stop create hatred within DS and non DS practitioners. Please lift DS Ban to unity Tibetan and no segregation within religion varied community.

    Dear Rinpoche,

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing the video and your view on the discrimination imposed to the Shugden’s practitioners inclusive of non-Tibetan in this real incident. First of all, Su Ming had taken a tremendously high risk of putting herself to the frontier in order to show us the facts that the discrimination against Dorje Shugden’s practitioners is still happening now although Central Tibetan Administration has denied there is a ban or discrimination against Dorje Shugden’s practitioners. Thank you Su Ming for revealing the injustice and discrimination face by Dorje Shugden’s practitioners, where we need everyone’s attention to end this discrimination once and for all.

It is very unnecessary to have this kind of discrimination at this modern age of our time, where we should think of how to improve our spirituality progress or how to improve our secular living to the least we can but not focusing and spend all the energies and effort to discriminate and treat Dorje Shugden’s practitioners unfair. It is because of the ban imposed on Dorje Shugden’s practice, monks are divided and separated between Shugden’s and non-Shugden’s practitioners within the monastery. If we continue to allow the discrimination against Shugden’s practitioners to go freely and uncontrolled, spirituality in Tibetan Buddhism may not progress well as hatred, injustice, inequality and discrimination take precedence in daily routine. Do we need another 20 more years of discrimination imposed to the Dorje Shugden’s practitioners before we can look for solutions to end this discrimation and to end the ban of Dorje Shugden’s practice? Definitely not.

The choice is on our hand. May the ban of Dorje Shugden’s practice will be lifted ASAP to end the sufferings and discrimination endured by many Dorje Shugden’s practitioners.

    Thank you with folded hands,
    kin hoe

NO discrimination against Shugden practitioners which practised by the millions of people around the wrold ? These videos are indeed shocking especially the one at the shop in Nepal. Seriously? Such an aggressive response for another person’s faith? Where’s the human decency of respect, tolerance and acceptance for differences and religious freedom? This is the damage of the Ban. It’s the after effects of the enforcement of this Ban by the CTA. It does not matter the denial that there’s no Ban, fact and truth is there is a Ban and discrimination STILL exist Now. 20 years of brainwashing the ignorant has left many still in the dark and deeply ignorant. These communities have been exploited and robbed of their human decency towards others who make different choices – people who practise Dorje Shugden. Thus, we DS practitioners are bad, regardless of gender and nationality. Can this still be happening in this day and age? Yes obviously. And that’s the doing of the CTA. It has to stop and the CTA must take that action.

    Dear Rinpoche,

Pardon my language..but the reaction of those people are hilarious!

You can almost see their discomfort upon hearing Dorje Shugden’s name.
The funniest thing in that jewelry shop was both shopkeepers did not even recognize Dorje Shugden statue immediately when he was placed on the table till they asked for his name.

If you cannot recognize something that you are suppose to be wary or afraid of.. Then what is there is be wary or afraid of?

Ignorant and naive is what I will call them.

If there is no so-called discrimination.. Then why reject providing an accommodation..why reject selling jewellery that was intended to offer to Dorje Shugden?

From their body language.. It is almost they were afraid of being even found out that they were inches away from Dorje Shugden practitioners.

If they were not informed.. I doubt these people will react in that manner.

Thank you Rinoodle for sharing these videos. It really proves nothing has changed and the discrimination continues!

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article and the videos. It is rather very sad to see this thing happen. And in the same time I pity them that clearly they don’t even know what is banned! From the second video, they don’t know how Dorje Shugden look like, until there were told that was a Dorje Shugden video. What if some one brought a Jesus (for example) and said it’s actually Dorje Shugden? They are really blinded and follow blindly that what was “instructed” by the Tibetan leadership in India. For example, the girl in the hotel, she didn’t even know why Dorje Shugden practitioners cannot stay there. She just said it’s banned by the monastery. So, what if I go there and tell them I am anti-christ and a Satan worshiper? (just an example) Will they let me stay? It is really sad to see the so called Tibetan leadership involve religion into politics and brain wash the people there like that. They brainwash them until their people broken apart. This is what they want to happen to their people instead of uniting them? The first and only leadership I see in the world that not uniting their people, but to tell their people to fight against each other. I hope one day they will realize how wrong and important is this to build a government. Thank you Rinpoche _/\_

  36. Wah Ying on Feb 9, 2017 at 10:43 pm

You can’t believe this is happening! But this is the FACT what is happening in India and Nepal and other parts of the world where your choice of faith is the ONLY reason why you are rejected, discriminated, segregated and ostracized.

One can imagine how Tibetans have to put up with all these discrimination, not only in hotel, guesthouse or shops; but hospitals, clinics, saloon , restaurants and schools on daily basis.

Fear of being persecuted for both sides of Dorje Shugden or non Dorje Shugden is there. As Dorje Shugden practitioners you either be open to your practice and prepare to be treated badly. For non Dorje Shugden people, you either treat Dorje Shugden people negatively and badly, or you might invite problems for yourself, your family and business – from the face of the lady behind the gueasthouse counter you can see how careful and frightened she was.

This is wrong, how could a business, an individual, an institution like monastery/guesthouse run by the monastery (monastery suppose to be the institution to spread the teachings of Buddha on compassion and love), and a shop doing business discriminating a person base on her/his religion. If the monastery can accept the donation from Dorje Shugden people to build the facilities, but cannot rent a guesthouse or sell pearl to a Dorje Shugden people, this is ridiculous and hyprocrite. If the money the pocket of Dorje Shugden people is “dirty” and “nt valid” to pay the rent & pearl, why it is completely “clean” and “pure” when you get it as donation to build your monastery?

What is worse, this is a systematic and institutionalised persecution; but the Tibetan administration in India keep denying this to the world that there is any ban on Dorje Shugden practice. Central Tibetan Administration even came out with video to deny there is a ban or any discrimination against Dorje Shugden practitioners being done. (Details pls read here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/…/tibetan-leaderships-new…)

There are many evidence showed there’s a ban on Dorje Shugden practice and this is just one of the recorded proof of it, many Dorje Shugden people have been suffered and silence, just as many non Dorje Shugden practitioners are silence even they don’t fully understand or supporting the institutionalised discrimination or the ban itself.

Lift the ban! And let everyone have peace. To choose one’s own religion is not a crime or any sin. Dorje Shugden, the Central Tibetan Administration the practice should stop using Dorje Shugden practice and the practitioners as a tool to divert attention of CTA not doing anything to help the welfare of Tibetans or Tibetan cause.

  37. Stella Cheang on Feb 9, 2017 at 6:21 pm

Thank you, Rinpoche for sharing these footages of the courageous Su Ming and her friends, so that the stigma of Dorje Shugden can be revealed. While we revered the peace loving Dalai Lama and celebrated his recent declaration that Dorje Shugden cannot harm him and that everyone can practice Dorje Shugden, certain people are still using Dorje Shugden as a tool of oppression. These footages reveal exactly the plight of what Dorje Shugden practitioners face as foreigners (with cameras), what more the poor locals who (outside of camera on a day-to-day basis) has no job, no money after 20 years of heavy handed persecution? The most disturbing fact from these footages remains that the rules of rejecting Dorje Shugden people are enforced by Gaden Shartze Monastery, who had been receiving generous donations from Dorje Shugden practitioners. To think that Buddhist institution would enshrine Buddha’s teaching of embracing diversity and compassionate is proven hogwash by Gaden Shartze Monastery. On the contrary, Tibetan Buddhism in India is practicing an unfamiliar doctrine that deny service to people just because of their religion preference. It is painful to observe this degeneration of the Buddhist faith.

  38. Pastor Antoinette on Feb 9, 2017 at 4:28 pm

This is clear evidence that Dorje Shugden practitioner are discriminated and not equal compared to other people, Tibetans or not.

How could it possibly make a difference what religion someone practices to book a hotel room or buy something?

This is politics mixing with religion which is obviously very wrong. We simply practice what is giving to us by our teacher. Dorje Shugden was practiced by H.H. the Dalai Lama himself before the ban and he wrote a prayer to Dorje Shugden:
The Fourteenth Dalai Lama & Dorje Shugden | ༧གོང་ས་ཆེན་པོ་སྐུ་འཕྲེང་བཅུ་བཞི་པ་མཆོག་དང་རྡོ་རྗེ་ཤུགས་ལྡན། | 十四世达赖尊者与多杰雄登
    https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/the-fourteenth-dalai-lama-dorje-shugden.html

So, it is true, Dorje Shugden practitioners are treated unfair on a general basis!

I was lucky to never experience this before i came across the Dorje Shugden issue and i could hardly believe it because even though i was in the Friends of Tibet in Luxembourg and supported the Tibetan Cause for years i never knew that the Tibetan government is behaving in such a manner to their very own people. I could not believe it!

I wish that this unfair treatment would stop as soon as possible and that Dorje Shugden practitioners have same rights than everyone else!

May this happen very soon _( )_

These two videos clearly showed the lies and everything negative about politicians when they want to achieve their objectives by being in politics, and that is for self gain.

Religious freedom, compassion, equanimity, non biasness, non-segregation, and mutual respect have, unfortunately gone down the drain with the CTA. The CTA have claimed that there is no ban on DS practice (which in this video clearly shows that the ban is very much alive).

Another unfortunate thing is that the lady behind the counter looks like she’s been trained to outright reject any person (regardless of background) who practices Dorje Shugden. This is really sad. The lady’s expression tell us that even she herself is not sure why turn away guests who happen to practice DS.

Does this mean DS practitioners are lesser of a human that others or because they are so afraid of the CTA that they just obey without question? If so, then the CYA guys are no better than a dictatorial regime. A dictatorial regime does not last and the worst is that thee ending is often not pleasant.

Tibetans must wake up immediately to these stark truth that despite what their spirituality has taught, they have gone back to their deluded minds.

It is very, very unfortunate and indeed pitiful to see this is still happening.

This video captures , without the shadow of a doubt, what has been emphatically denied by the Tibetan leadership again and again – that is the blatant discrimination against Shugden practitioners practised by the community of Tibetans -in-exile-, whether Sangha or non-Sangha.

Watching the video of Tsem Rinpoche’s Malaysian student being first accepted and then denied a place to stay i a guesthouse/hotel run by the Gaden Monastery, one is struck by the instant rejection of hotel accommodation for her when this student said she was a Shugden practitioner! Straightaway, the hotel receptionist said “No” to her stay there , and when questioned why a Shugden practitioner is not allowed to stay in the Guest House, the absurd answer given was that it was a rule of the Monastery! Even as she gave the answer ,the receptionist was turning around to perhaps to seek confirmation that she was putting it correctly in words. Why was she scared?

Even more negative was the reaction, in the second video, towards Shugden and Shugden practitioners. When the lady in the shop saw it was a Shugden statue for which the pearls were being bought, she straightway pulled back the pearls and hurriedly tried to get rid of the customer . She was so fearful of being caught dealing with a Shugden practitioner with a Shugden statue!

What or who has driven such fear into people, like the hotel receptionist or the owner of the shop selling the pearls, against Shugden people? How could that have happened ? How can any leadership plant such fear and even hate/aversion in one group of its people against another group, causing such internal disharmony(including disharmony among the sangha), which is so against Lord Buddha’s wish for harmony , especially among the sangha?

Today’s world is filled with so many problems. It is sad to see discrimination of any kind, but to deny a public service to someone just because of what their beliefs are? That is so horrible. It is wrong to have this kind of separation due to something that is our right to have or do.

What is the point of having beliefs at all then? They are supposed to make us better people but when they go overboard and can destroy links between people of the same religion, it goes against what it stands for. I am aware of the discrimination against Shugden people, it goes way beyond just saying no. It is very sad

This is sad to learnt that discrimination happens. Who is the actual cause of this discrimination is obvious. I hope this issue can be solved as soon as possible.

This is such a wonderful change. People who take the time to research and think logically about the Dorje Shugden issue can easily see past the prejudice. I am seeing more and more of this shift away from blind hatred of an ancient and holy practice that has been maligned. Very happy for Suzy.

It is very sad to see the peoples are so afraid the possibility to be punished if they have anything related with Dorje Shugden. 2 videos above have strongly suggested that there are BAN on Dorje Shugden. Sikyong (Prime Minister) of the Tibetans in exile Lobsang Sangay had openly lies to public that there are no ban and everyone is treated equally. If there is no ban, why did people are so afraid. What have the Tibetan government did to make their people live in fear.

This discrimination on religion have harm the Tibetan refugees. It separated the Tibetan communities. The Tibetan have lost their home land, Central Tibetan Government in exile instead of unite their people, they make their people separated, and live in fear. It is a life of a Tibetan who claim that they are Buddhist? Buddha do not taught us to discriminate religion and people, Buddha do not taught us to create schism.

I hopes the Tibetan in Exile do not use Dorje Shugden to create fear in their people for political purposes. I hopes the monastery is the place to protect people, not place to harm and be used for politic purposes

Coming from a country that is a democracy just like India, with somewhat of a shared history, I can’t believe this kind of incident really happens in a democratic country. Human rights are enshrined in the the constitution and in the UN Decleration of Human Rights. This incident is disgusting, it’s bad someone can be discriminated against simply based on their religion, kind of like Trump’s travel ban on Muslims. the CTA allow this to happen and encourage this behaviour by discouraging DS practice openly. Shame shame shame.

  46. JP on Feb 9, 2017 at 12:12 am

Although I’m sad that people are still discriminating against Dorje Shugden practitioners. I’m glad that there is more evidence of the discrimination so that the Tibetan leaders can stop lying. For a monastery owned hotel to blatantly refuse service to Su Ming just because she’s a Dorje Shugden practitioner, it shows that either the monastery is pressured to toe the line with the Tibetan leaders’ political agenda or the monastery has degenerated. Which Buddha’s teachings promote non-acceptance and discrimination? It doesn’t reflect well at all for Gaden Monastery. It makes foreigners like myself lose confidence in the monastery and what HH the Dalai Lama has been promoting, which is world peace and harmony. Doesn’t look like HH’s own people are practicing what he preaches.

  47. Pastor Shin on Feb 8, 2017 at 11:47 pm

It is very wrong to discriminate people based on their religion, what is worse is that a so-called ‘government’ or administration is persecuting their own people. The Tibetan leadership encourages the hatred, segregation and prejudice against Dorje Shugden practitioners

This is the cause why Su Ming was refused at the hotel, although she has done NOTHING WRONG and is a willing paying customer. Some may say that Dorje Shugden practitioners have religious freedom, but these videos clearly shows how Dorje Shugden practitioners are ostracised and badly treated in the Tibetan/ Tibetan Buddhist communities worldwide.

Until the day that the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) remove their resolution accusing Shugden followers as ‘traitors’ under the Chinese government’s ploy and “criminals in history”, the discrimination/ ostracisation/ disharmony/ fear will continue. And it is very WRONG for the CTA to NOT DO ANYTHING to stop this discrimination/ ostracisation/ disharmony from continuing.

  48. MartinC on Feb 8, 2017 at 11:42 pm

This is really unfortunate, more so for the reputation of Ganden Monastery and the Tibetan leadership than anything else. The Guest House owned and operated by Ganden reflects its policy and attitude.

Ganden is supposed to be an institution of higher learning and a centre that cultivates thinking that transcend mundane labels. This very base level of discrimination does not reflect well on the good name of Ganden.

Why would the religion of a Malaysian guest matter especially if she is someone who has supported Ganden Shartse a great deal. Su Ming is known to be kind and non judgemental and she and her family have done a lot to support Ganden monks in the past. She is not involved in any way in Tibetan politics nor has she done any harm to the Tibetan people. How can they treat her with such ingratitude?

What struck me is how quickly the nice lady behind the hotel front desk recoiled as soon as she heard the name Dorje Shugden. It was not personal and she was just doing s she has been told to do. It is like all staff have been trained to discriminate against Dorje Shugden people and are EXPECTED to do so. In that way, many Tibetans are forced to hate by the establishment.

This is very bad for the Tibetan Cause because it says very clearly that on the one hand, the Tibetan people have depended fully on foreigners for over 50 years but on the other hand, if our religion does not meet the judgement of the Tibetan leadership, then we are rejected.

When many of us contributed for years to the Tibetan Cause, we didn’t impose conditions nor we we insist that our funds was for one group of the Tibetans and not another. We who offered help did not discriminate. Why should those who have accepted help now discriminate against the giver?

How the Tibetan leadership responds to this and how the Tibetan community respond to this bigotry shows how ready the leadership and the people are, to defend the freedom they have asked the whole world to support.

  49. Pastor David Lai on Feb 8, 2017 at 11:40 pm

Wow! This is incredible to see this happen in this day and age. That a Buddhist and a monastic establishment is forced not to serve someone just because of one’s religious beliefs.

Kudos to Su Ming for her courage to show that the discrimination is very much alive and not just limited to Tibetan Shugden practitioners only. Just because of one’s beliefs, one is discriminated and I cannot imagine how Tibetan Shugden practitioners go through such discrimination on a daily basis and perhaps, they get it worse because the Shugden ban is widespread and institutionalised in Tibetan society.

When it is institutionalised discrimination, it is not just a policy but a drive to look kosher/halal especially amongst Tibetans. Just like the example in the website of the 84 year old monk from Trijang Ladrang and how violence is the norm or at the very least, the threat of it is at the backs of everybody’s mind.

  50. Datuk May on Feb 8, 2017 at 11:38 pm

After 57 long years, the Tibetan Government in exile, now called CTA had not done anything that is commendable for its people nor for better goodwill and relationship with China.

Asking WHY is frivolous and futile, as it is the attitude of being stuck in their old feudal ways of not compromising with the current modern democracy and controlling the freedom of their people.

However as the governing body of any nation, small or large, internationally recognised or not, it is only answerable to its people. Tibetans had always dreamt of going home to Tibet, CHINA and the CTA had not delivered. So they must avoid their inability and distract their people from the core problem of their incompetence to the BAN which they have imposed on Dorje Shugden practitioners.

At the same time to lie and deny that there is indiscrimination against Dorje Shugden practitioners via public and broadcasted news conference by their Prime Minister, Lobsang Sangay is blatantly unacceptable.

I feel sad that my fellow DS practitioners, who are not Tibetans but Malaysians travelling away from home, were discriminated and humiliated when they were in the Tibetan Refuge Colonies, in India, which I believe are inhabited by Buddhists who are governed by law not to be kind and compassionate and to turn away strangers just because they are Dorje Shugden practitioners.

It must be clearly noted at this point that the very tenet of Buddhism is compassion and kindness.

My sincere appreciation to my fellow students of HE the 25th Tsem Rinpoche for their courage to declare their faith in Dorje Shugden and capturing the videos that truly paint a 1000 unspoken harsh condemnation imposed on Dorje Shugden practitioners.

  51. Beatrix Ooi on Feb 8, 2017 at 11:36 pm

Unfortunately for the Tibetan Administration, this video has captured the TRUTH they worked very hard to keep hidden. Which government on earth encourages their people to discriminate others based on religion? What is wrong for having a religion? This video shows just a small part of the discrimination and ostracism Dorje Shugden practitioners have to put up with, there are more incidents like this. When will the ostracism stop? How many more lies does the Tibetan Administration have to tell?

  52. Pastor Adeline on Feb 8, 2017 at 11:31 pm

There are so much discriminations in the world that are so irrelevant and existed due to pure selfishness. The ban on a religion practise is just one of the many examples we have in today’s world including discrimination on gender, race, personal preferences etc. This is just another side of human selfishness that arise solely from ignorance and the thought that oneself is superior than the other.

For all Dorje Shugden practitioners out there, we should continue to create awareness on the unfairness forcefully landed onto us just because we choose to keep our commitment and integrity with our Spiritual Guide. This discrimination should not jeopardise our faith because at the end of the day, we are supposed to rise above ignorance and Dorje Shugden is helping us along the way and we shouldn’t be stopped by people who are clouded by ignorance after all.

  53. Pastor Niral Patel on Feb 8, 2017 at 11:24 pm

This is first hand experience of modern day discrimination against a person just because of her religious practice. In this day and age, in Indian, which is a country that is democratic, in a community that is supposed to be following the loving example of the tolerance and acceptance as taught by the Buddha, this kind of discrimination occurs.

It is very disheartening to see a young, intelligent, and smart woman rejected from staying here just because of her religious practice.

There are people that argue that such religious discrimination against Dorje Shugden practitioners does not exist, but this is clear evidence that it in fact does exist. And what confounds the issue is that in the video itself, this discrimination is attributed to the fact that it is because the hotel adheres to the rules set out by the monastery.

The lovely woman in this video, a friend of mine, is not Tibetan but a foreigner. If this is the kind of religious discrimination that exists for foreigners, the kind of treatment a Tibetan would receive must be worse. No real democracy would allow this religious discrimination. This discrimination must end.

  54. Valentina Suhendra on Feb 8, 2017 at 11:19 pm

    Dear Rinpoche

Thank you for this eye opening post. Tibetan leadership in exile always deny that there are discriminations toward Dorje Shugden practitioners. But what my friend, Chuah Su Ming experienced is a pure discrimination because she was denied of her wish to stay in the hostel just because she is a Dorje Shugden practitioners.

It does not matter if Tibetan leadership in exile does not have the policy to discriminate against Dorje Shugden practitioners, the point is the CTA allow this to happen and encourage this behaviour by discouraging DS practice openly.

    Incredible!

I can’t believe this kind of incident really happened in this modern days when the world emphasize so mich on human rights and religious freedom. It’s even harder to believe when this happens in one of the hotel affiliates to a famous Buddhist monastery which supposed to promote love and peace and creating a better world.

What Dorje Shugden ban did to Tibetan Buddhist world is not only a ban on a Buddhist deity but a degeneration of real Buddhist value. Seeing all these really sadden me.

Dorje Shugden Ban should come to an end as soon as possible.

  56. Pavara Lam on Feb 8, 2017 at 11:12 pm

It is indeed sad to see how Dorje Shugden people are treated in Mini Tibet. The people there do not know what sort of benefit comes from worshiping Dorje Shugden, they have all been brought up to hate Dorje Shugden as one would hate an enemy. These people don’t know the real reason for the ban, it is only because they fear harsh treatment by the CTA people or they lack knowledge about Dorje Shugden and how it is totally unrelated to the ban.

All these signs show that the ban is still in place and hasn’t been slackened yet.

I really hope that the Dorje Shugden ban and can be lifted soon without any obstacles or violence.

  57. Lin Mun on Feb 8, 2017 at 10:26 pm

CTA is clearly enforcing this ban and discriminating Dorje Shugden practitioners. How can the CTA ban another person just because another person has different choice of religion?

And the Prime Minister said that the Tibetans are treated fairly and equally. The 2 videos clearly shown that no services will be given to Dorje Shugen practitioners. The service provider were so worry when they realised the customer are Dorje Shugden practitioners and immediately declined to offer any services.

The ban is not acceptable. Everyone has religious freedom and human rights. CTA please lift the ban. No one should need to suffer such segregation and discrimination.

  58. Jace Chong on Feb 8, 2017 at 9:36 pm

Thanks Rinpoche and the team for sharing this saddening truth.

What is so true on the face is that there is discrimination contrary to what the Central Tibetans Administration and the prime minister trying to convince the world that there’s no ban on Dorje Shugden.

Why a hotel cannot accept Dorje Shugden practitioner if there is no ban? Why a jewelries seller cannot sell things to offer to Dorje Shugden if there is no ban?

The videos on this post are clear evidences that the ban exists and still haunting the Tibetan communities together with so many proves you can find easily on internet. Here are some combinations: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/dorje-shugden/tibetan-leaderships-new-anti-shugden-video.html

Dalai Lama preaches world peace by acceptance, tolerance among each other, where are these kind qualities toward Dorje Shugden practitioners? It’s totally unfair and yet the prime minister still try to lie about the real situation. We need to stop this ban already, what is the single benefit of enforcing this ban?

Please stop this unethical ban on Dorje Shugden and restore true happiness which has no fear in Tibetan community.

    Thank you.

It is clear that the Ban on Dorje Shugden and his practice is still very much in place. Otherwise why would the staff at this hotel discriminate against a guest simply based on her practicing Dorje Shugden? When a hotel opens its doors for business, they should welcome everyone without discrimination, especially not religious discrimination. Even if it is owned by the monastery, the hotel is a business entity not to be mixed with spirituality, other than to sustain the monastic expenditures.

CTA had incited and created so much fear that the staff and shop owners dare not serve Shugden practitioners even though they are not affected or threaten in anyway. CTA had brought discrimination and segregation into a beautiful religious practice that had only taught compassion and kindness to others. 2600 years ago, Buddha Shakyamuni had taught us to question what is not right and contradicts and yet, many monks and lay people do not question the contradictory actions incited by CTA. The Dalai Lama had publicly stated that Dorje Shugden does not harm him nor shorten his life and never had will be. He even said we are able to practice. So why is the ban still in place when the whole reason for ban as that it is harmful to the Dalai Lama?

CTA claims that Dorje Shugden is in cahoots with China to bring down Tibet. Any persons who look deeper into this issue will know that Dorje Shugden is a 400 year old practice. The issue with China is only 60 years old. Do the maths, so to speak. How on earth did CTA derive the connection other than blatantly lying about this connection to allay & distract the Tibetans in Exile of their failure to return home after all the promises made.

CTA should really spend what time they have to come up with a plan to work with China. Given that China is no. 1 in world trade and holds such high political power that most countries wish as their allies, CTA would do well to start overture to China for the wellbeing of their people. Stop the ban and discrimination, CTA. Practice the compassion and kindness as the Dalai Lama teaches. Hold the Sangha in the highest esteem and not create divisiveness/schism against their pure practices. Practice real freedom as your host country, India has in Law.

  60. Alice Tay on Feb 8, 2017 at 9:07 pm

This is enough for the Shugden practitioners being segregated, discrimination, prejudice and more seriously no matter how old they are, still being attacked just because they wish to maintain their commitments to their practice and teachers.

The Prime Minister of the Tibetan said that all Tibetans are treated equally and fairly as per video showed. If it is true, the 84 year old monk from Trijang Ladrang should not be attacked but respect him due to his elder age.

On the other hand, the Shartse Guest House’s front desk receptionist and the jewellery seller’s rejected to provide service or sell to Dorje Shugden practitioners is not the wise choice. Assuming that there are 10 people want to buy the jewellery but 9 of them are foreigners and also Dorje Shugden practitioners, the seller will definitely lost greatly in their income as they follow advice not to deal with Shugden people.

Is this the correct for the people do not accept the sales from Shugden practitioners instead suffered for the loss of income? Is the government will subsidise the people if they has no earning but still need to pay for their daily expenses for survival ? This is a big question mark with unknown answer.

  62. Joy Kam on Feb 8, 2017 at 7:12 am

Wow this REAL EXPERIENCE FIRST HAND caught on video! Now what is the silly Tibetan leadership going to say, are they still going to deny there is no ban, no discrimination on Shugden people?

What kind of Buddhist monastery would “reject” people based on their beliefs and faith and how does this promote religious tolerance, harmony and freedom? What kind of life would a Shugden Tibetan practitioner be experiencing?

This is done to a foreigner, can you imagine if she was Tibetan, she would have been spat at, probably be handled more roughly, probably even beaten, you never know what these fanatics would do. But when you ask them why, their only answer is monastery said so or just cannot. Who is feeding all this fear on them and if is the monastery, what kind of Buddhist monastery would encourage discrimination, segregation and schism, and basically a breach on human right to religious freedom. Now if all this is because of a ban on Dorje Shugden, and really there is no if there is no ban, then why so much discrimination?

Why did they reject them from the hotel and from purchasing some jewellery? Clearly there is a ban and discrimination on Shugden people and clearly it affects everyone not only Tibetans.

Venerable Ajahn Chah was a Thai Buddhist teacher of the Buddhadhamma and a founder of two major monasteries in the Thai Forest Tradition. Well respected and loved as a man of great wisdom, he was also instrumental in establishing Theravada Buddhism in the West. Interesting life story, how he chose to leave the settled monastic life and became a wandering ascetic. Walking across Thailand, lived in forests, caves and cremation grounds while learning from the meditation monks of the Forest of various monasteries. He wandered through the countryside in quest of quiet and secluded places for developing meditation. He even lived in tiger and cobra infested jungles, using reflections on death to penetrate to the true meaning of life. After years of wandering, Venerable Ajahn Chah established a monastery where he taught simple, practice-based form of meditation, and attracted a numerous of students including western foreigners. He was one of the greatest Dhamma teachers of the modern era. His wise teachings have continued to guide thousands of people along the path of Dharma. Venerable Ajahn Chah’s teachings of the Thai Forest Tradition gradually spread across all over the world. Several of Ajahn Chah’s Western students have since established monasteries throughout the world. Just in Thailand itself, there are more than 300 branch monasteries in Ajahn Chah’s tradition. Ven erable Ajahn Chah used his ill health as a teaching point, emphasizing that it was a living example of the impermanence of all things and reminded people to endeavour to find a true refuge within themselves. The legacy of Venerable Ajahn Chah’s teachings and legacy continues into the modern age.

Wonderful blog written on the practice of Kalarupa for us to understand better. As an emanation of Manjushri, Kalarupa’s practice helps us to destroy ignorance and to develop wisdom overcoming our anger and suffering . Awesome Kalarupa manifested in multiple forms to help sentient beings who personifies enlightenment by the conquest of anger. Kalarupa also regard as one of the three main Dharma protectors of the Gelugpa is extremely fierce and ugly, and tames all kinds of spiritual ugliness. The fierceness of his iconography teaches us to remind ourselves that all the causes and effects of anger arising from ignorance are dreadful and distorted.

Nepal is a very spiritual country, having a huge Dorje Shugden mural in Kathmandu, is indeed a big achievement for Kechara. Located on Charkhal Road in Dilli Bazaar, the mural can be found midway between our two Dorje Shugden chapels which are in Putalisadak and Chabahil. It is also very close to one of Kathmandu’s largest shopping malls. Many locals , tourist will be able to connect them to a powerful deity that is so closely associated with their culture. Well the mural not only beautiful but also full of symbolism and everyone merely by seeing it is blessed. Thanks to those talented artists and generous sponsors making it a success.

All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on. Letting go helps us to live in a more peaceful state of mind and helps restore our balance. A reminder for us all to go of attachment and meditating on impermanence and emptiness. We are to relinquish the domination of our ego and its habits to transform ourselves. A great reminder not to waste our previous life.

We are members of the Buddhist Temple in Taman Desa Jaya, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur and we have been issued membership by the president (DATUK YIP KUM FOOK), we are very sad because we are the foundation of this Temple

Now we can know who is always messing with people, and he always cheats money and women, he even uses Buddhism to find money.

Also, need to be careful with his brother-in-law (Simon Low Kok Meng) because he is a spy (CID) for DATUK YIP KUM FOOK and we will write some letters to AGONG SULTAN IBRAHIM IBN ALMARHUM SULTAN ISKANDAR as soon as possible.

The matriarchal cultures of the grandmothers have specific symbolism of animism shamanism, such as the horse, especially the blue horse, and the deer. These are two main symbols of a shaman woman and you can find them in many cultural folk lore, especially the Russian, Slavic, Siberian, Nordic, Finland, and Norway. It’s nice to see the Matriarchal Shaman Animism diety represented in Chinese.

An inspiring act of a selfless Lama feeding strays whether its night or day. Truly an example for us all to feed those lonely strays . Yes I do agree compassion starts with feeding strays. Reading this blog again to refresh myself to do more. Strays animals generally lead a life of poor welfare on the street. Feeding strays is a compassionate act.
Thank you Rinpoche and Anila for this sharing.

H E Tsem Rinpoche’s Sungbum project aim to preserve the teachings and practices that have been passed from teacher to disciple in an unbroken line beginning with Lama Tsongkhapa himself . History has taught us the importance of preserving Buddha’s stainless teachings. Its important to preserve and safeguard the Buddhist tradition for future generations.
Tsem Rinpoche is a clear and effective teacher where his stories and teachings are endlessly entertaining and inspiring. The preservation is very much needed. We are so fortunate given a chance to be involved in such a meritorious project .
    Thank you.

Demons are disembodied spirits, supernatural being or spirit and unseen beings. We know they do exist and I believe they do. They have no physical form to them whatsoever. Demons do definitely exist. They are intelligent beings who are evil malicious spirits and are all dangerous entities. Valak is not to be summoned capriciously by anyone as they are dangerous beings when we invoke them having to face a heavy consequence. There are spiritual practices that we can ask for help a ritual of the wrathful Manjushri in the form of Trakze. Having a doing the practice daily without fail, consistently, as this Trakze practice has been proven to be efficacious to break the hold the Valak and other spirits. All thanks to our Guru bringing this practice to Kechara Forest Retreat, Bentong Malaysia.
Thank you Rinpoche for this wonderful sharing for us to understand better.

Wow ,reading all these powerful quotes had me realised much better of giving even I have little. May H E Tsem Rinpoche’s sincere advice to reach the far shore of liberation to everyone reading this blog. The most truly generous people are those who give silently without asking any in return. There is no exercise better than reaching and lifting people up. A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal. Well creating and lighting for others we naturally light our own way. Helping others especially those unfortunate ones, make us feel more positive about our own circumstances.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing all these powerful quotes.

Lama Tsongkhapa was an influential Tibetan Buddhist monk, philosopher and tantric yogi, whose activities led to the formation of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism . Lama Tsongkhapa was hailed as the second Buddha by contemporary Buddhist masters of his time. Famous for reviving Buddhism in Tibet and revered for elevating the Dharma to all its present glory. Hence having a 12 ft Lama Tsongkhapa Statue at new Kechara Gompa (Prayer Hall) is indeed a blessing. Its truly beautiful. Merely by looking at it is a blessing .
Thank you Rinpoche and team effort making it possible.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer

One the day of Losar (new lunar year), it is always beneficial for Buddhist practitioners to get together in making abundant offerings to Buddhas on the altar to usher in goodness, prosperity and well-being of our loved ones. It's more auspicious this year as Losar and the Chinese New Year begin on the same date, 10th Feb, 2024. Back in Penang, our Kechara members came together to decorate the altar with abundance offerings for Dorje Shugden puja @3pm. Kechara Penang Study Group by Jacinta.

Umze for the day was Siew Hong. She's just been with us for slightly more than a year now but she's proven her capability in leading the puja. Our Penang group members are so proud of her and her commitment in attending the weekly puja. Despite being eloquence and smart, she has beautiful chant as well. When she leads, make sure you are there to hear her chant for yourself! Kechara Penang Study Group by Jacinta.

Dharma sharing by Hue before we proceeded with DS puja & Rinpoche Swift Return puja. Hue is one of the long time Kechara Penang members and he comes to puja regularly. He shared that he truly believes that Dorje Shugden and Rinpoche always there guiding him. He shared how sometimes DS will give him hints to avert troubles ahead or to alert him when he 'misbehaved'. Hope many will come to know more about this powerful Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugden aka DS. Having Dorje Shugden is like having a powerful ally that will protect us day and night. Just trust Him and have faith. Kechara Penang Study Group, 25/11/2023 by Jacinta.
