I thought you might just enjoy the post and the visuals.

As Dorje Shugden’s practice continues to spread far and wide, there are increasingly more monasteries built in dedication towards the great protector.

We looked through the internet in search of statues that are both private possessions of Dorje Shugden lamas, as well as those which stand to be significant within Dorje Shugden’s history.

Below are 10 holy Dorje Shugden statues located all over the world. Enjoy!

1. His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche’s Personal Statue, India

The opportunity to take a glimpse into the personal possessions of a private and highly-attained lama is a bonafide rarity. Above is the personal Dorje Shugden statue of the previous incarnation of HH Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche; the direct disciple of HH Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche, junior tutor to HH 14th Dalai Lama and the root lama of many highly attained lamas including HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche, Lama Yeshe and Geshe Rabten.

In this life and previous incarnations, HH Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche has shared a very close and special relationship with Dorje Shugden. It is said that HH Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche always kept Dorje Shugden very near him throughout his life, as shown in this highly blessed statue that was kept in His private bedroom.

It was under HH Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche’s advice that the Dalai Lama sought the counsel of Dorje Shugden via the Panglung Oracle during the Cultural Revolution. This led to the Dalai Lama’s secret escape out of the Potala Palace and safely into India.

In full knowledge of the tremendous benefits, prior to the escape, the Dalai Lama requested to borrow a Dorje Shugden thangka painting that was initially given by the Dalai Lama as an offering to his Guru, HH Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche. The thangka followed HH Dalai Lama’s throughout the escape, and was returned to HH Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche upon arriving in India. The Dorje Shugden thangka now resides in Trijang Ladrang, in Gaden Monastery.

Fun fact: HH Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche’s line of incarnation traces all the way back to Chandra, the famous chariot driver who escorted Prince Siddharta out of the palace to eventually attain enlightenment.

2. Longrong Monastery, Sichuan Province, China

One of HH Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche’s student was the highly attained HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche, who was said to be an emanation of the Buddha, Heruka Chakrasamvara and one of the 2 heart sons of Lama Tsongkhapa, Khedrub Je.

HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche, was born in the Kham region of Tibet which is now divided and covers the land area of present-day Tibet Autonomous Region, Qinghai, Gansu, Sichuan province and Yunan province of China.

In the current Sichuan province, is Longrong Monastery, the largest monastery in Derong County. It is also one of the 13 major monasteries of the Gelug lineage in the Kham area, and the mother monastery of HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche.

Established on 10 hectares of land, Longrong Monastery is home to 500 monks, 10,000 volumes of Buddhist scriptures and the Dorje Shugden statue above. During Losar, Tibetan New Year, it is common to see tens of thousands of people congregating at the monastery.

Fun fact: At the end of HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche’s life, Kyabje Zong Rinpoche stated very clearly and publicly that His whole life’s work was accomplished through His sincere reliance on Dorje Shugden.

3. Gaden Shartse Monastery, India (till 1983)

For many decades, the Dorje Shugden statue above resided in the protector chapel within Gaden Shartse Monastery‘s large prayer hall, also known as the Lachi. The protector chapel also housed various statues and images of other Dharma protectors such as Mahakala, Kalarupa, Shidak Gyenye, Yamantaka and Vaisravana.

Installed by HH Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche, HH Kyabje Zong Rinpoche, and 2,000 sangha members of Gaden Monastery, this sacred statue was worshipped by thousands of pilgrims, sangha members and lay people who made daily offerings and prayers to Dorje Shugden.

Monks from both Gaden Shartse and Jangste would perform daily pujas and rituals in the Lachi, where Dorje Shugden was one of the prayers done, together with the other protectors stated above.

In 1983, His Holiness the Dalai Lama issued an order to move the Dorje Shugden statue out of the Lachi and into a chapel of its own. As such, the sangha members of monastery had no choice but to carry out the order, and had the statue placed in a protector chapel that is currently located on the same compound as Sokpa Jamyang Khamsten, behind their monk hostel.

With the hundreds of thousands of pujas that were done by elite masters, tulkus, Geshes etc of Gaden Monastery, this statue is highly blessed and energized, and continues to be worshipped by many today.

4. His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama’s Handmade Statue, Kathmandu, Nepal

Located within the bustling capital city of Nepal is Phelgyeling Monastery, a Gelugpa monastery that was originally located in Nyanang, Tibet since 1665.

During the Cultural Revolution, one of the sacred artefacts that was saved from Phelgyeling Monastery in Tibet (a monastery that was eventually destroyed) was the revered statue above. Made by the 5th Dalai Lama own hands, the holy statue was reinstalled within the new protector chapel upon the re-establishment of the monastery in Nepal.

At about 10-12 inches high, the holy statue is covered in full brocade and encased in glass. It is believed that this is the first statue of Dorje Shugden.

Another ‘first’ by the 5th Dalai Lama also includes a prayer to Dorje Shugden. The propitiation was written after the 5th Dalai Lama realized that Dorje Shugden was not a harmful spirit as initially assumed, but instead an enlightened Dharma protector. The prayer is still being recited by hundreds of thousands of Dorje Shugden practitioners today.

5. Kopan Monastery, Nepal (till sometime after 1984)

The above statue was a sacred personal item belonging to one of the most renown Tibetan lamas who brought Buddhism to the West, Lama Yeshe. It was public knowledge that Lama Yeshe’s main protector was Dorje Shugden, whom Lama Yeshe fully relied upon throughout his life until he entered clear light in 1984.

Together with Lama Yeshe’s main student, Lama Zopa, they co-founded Kopan Monastery in Nepal, which became known to cater to Western students with the aspiration to further develop their Dharma practice.

Lama Yeshe actively encouraged his students to take Dorje Shugden as their Dharma protector, and made requests to other great lamas to confer Shugden sogtae (empowerment) onto his students.

During the construction of Kopan Monastery, many Dorje Shugden pujas were done before the foundation was laid. Lama Zopa later shared that Lama Yeshe would perform a Dorje Shugden puja before every teaching course began in Kopan Monastery to remove obstacles. Additionally, whenever there were any problems, Dorje Shugden was the main protector that Lama Yeshe would rely upon.

The Dorje Shugden statue above was the personal statue of Lama Yeshe, which was kept with him at Kopan Monastery. Upon entering clear light, his students gave away the statue to Tsawa Pulthok Rinpoche (from Drepung Loseling Monastery, Nepal).

In 2008, before entering clear light, Tsawa Pulthok Rinpoche gave away the statue to Gangchen Ladrang, Nepal, where it is currently housed and propitiated to.

6. Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, Ü-Tsang Province, Tibet Autonomous Region

Founded by the 1st Dalai Lama in 1447, Tashi Lhunpo Monastery is located on a hill in the center of Shigatse, the 2nd largest city in Tibet, within the traditional Ü-Tsang province.

The monastery has served to be the successive seat of the 2nd highest ranking tulku lineage in the Gelug tradition and all of Tibet in fact, the Panchen Lama. This tradition began since the 4th Panchen Lama, whose successive incarnations expanded the monastery to eventually cover an area of nearly 74 acres.

Tashi Lhunpo Monastery remains as a culturally and historically important site, due to the rare assets that have been well-preserved from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Together with various rare sutras and thangkas, the monastery is invaluable for research on the history and society of Tibet.

Tashi Lhunpo has a long history of practicing Dorje Shugden, and the practice continues strongly till today. The statue above is only but one of the many Dorje Shugden statues and paintings within the monastery. Those fortunate enough to visit the monastery will also have the opportunity to receive blessings from Dorje Shugden’s entourage, which includes the Ten Youthful and Wrathful Assistants, Nine Mothers, and Eight Guiding Monks.

Fun fact: The 4th Panchen Lama was the 5th Dalai Lama’s teacher.

7. Riwo Choeling Monastery, Lhoka (Shannan) Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region

The Lhoka Prefecture is often regarded as the birthplace of Tibetan civilization, and interestingly, the first Buddhist monastery and palace were also built here.

Located in the spiritual Yarlung Valley region of the Lhoka Prefecture is Riwo Choeling Monastery, a monastery that was founded in the 15th century by Khedrup Je, one of the 2 heart disciples of Lama Tsongkhapa.

It is said that Lama Tsongkhapa was traveling through the valley and expressed how the 2 mountains were shaped like a sword. As it was in reference to Manjushri’s wisdom sword, the remark meant that the area would be a place that is open to learning the Dharma.

Located at the top of a mountain, Riwo Choeling Monastery can only be reached by foot. Within the monastery resides Dorje Shugden, who is known to be the protector of the monastery.

8. Denma Gonsar Monastery, Kham, Tibetan Autonomous Region

Located in the Kham region of Tibet, Denma Gonsa Monastery (or Denma Gonsa Rinpoche’s Monastery) is home to the world’s largest Lama Tsongkhapa statue at 12-storey high, and the 2nd largest Dorje Shugden statue at 18-ft high.

Blessing the entire Kham area, Denma Gonsa Monastery was formed by the previous incarnation, HH 19th Kyabje Denma Gonsa Rinpoche, who rebuilt an existing old monastery that was destroyed over the years by the natural elements and humankind.

Upon completion in 2011, Denma Gonsa Monastery became the seat for HH Kyabje Denma Gonsa Rinpoche to transmit the pure teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa to 600 monks, as well as the lay people living within the region. High lamas such as the current Kyabje Pabongka Choktrul Rinpoche incarnation travelled often to this monastery to also receive rare teachings, practices and commentaries.

Prior to entering clear light in 2005, HH Kyabje Denma Gonsa Rinpoche instructed his main attendants to recognize his incarnation only if the boy is able to perfectly recite the root tantra of Guhyasamaja from memory. The Guhyasamaja tantra is one of the most important scriptures in Vajrayana Buddhism, and in its fullest form consists of 17 chapters.

Many claimed to be the incarnation, but on the 31st of July 2014, the officially recognized 20th incarnation of Denma Gonsa Rinpoche was enthroned. The video of the young incarnation reciting the text from memory can be found on YouTube.

The grand enthronement ceremony was attended by 200,000 people who traveled from all corners of Tibet, reflecting the level of faith and interest many Tibetans still have in the Buddha Dharma.

During the Qinghai earthquake, it was said that the surrounding buildings in the area were damaged except for the Denma Gonsa Monastery complex. Dorje Shugden being the main Dharma protector of the monastery, was highlighted as the main reason for the miracle.

9. Trode Khangsar, Lhasa, Tibetan Autonomous Region

Originally constructed in 1670, Trode Khangsar is located in the capital city of Tibet, Lhasa. HH 5th Dalai Lama had commissioned the protector house (or tenkhang in Tibetan) to be specifically dedicated to Dorje Shugden.

Within the tenkhang is an image of Dorje Shugden which was also commissioned by the 5th Dalai Lama.

At the end of the 17th century, Trode Khangsar was entrusted by the 5th Dalai Lama’s Regent Desi Sangye Gyatso to Riwo Choeling Monastery who restored the damaged and over-painted murals during the Cultural Revolution. Riwo Choeling Monastery continues to manage the tenkhang till today, where many tourists and pilgrims visit, and monks perform daily pujas to Dorje Shugden.

Trode Khangsar remains to be a historically significant building as it represents how Dorje Shugden was officially established in Tibet.

10. Choijin Lama Temple, Mongolia

The Choijin Lama Temple (Mongolian: Чойжин ламын сүм) is a Buddhist monastery in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.

The complex consists of four temples originally occupied by the brother of the ruler Bogd Khan, Choijin Lama Luvsankhaidav, who was the state oracle at the time. The complex was begun in 1904 and completed in 1908. In 1938 the Stalinist government converted the complex into a museum.

The main temple features an 18th-century gilt statue of Buddha Sakyamuni with a statue of Choijin Lama Luvsankhaidav on the Buddha’s right and the embalmed corpse of Baldanchoimbolon on his left. In addition, the temple boasts a copious collection of religious instruments, thangka paintings, a copy of the 108-volume Kangyur and hand-printed 226-volume Tengyur brought from Tibet by the Bogd Khan, and a collection of cham dance masks).

The annex to the temple contains a heated ger and a central square in which Choijin Lama Luvsankhaidav performed rituals.

The Zuu Temple, dedicated to the Buddha Shakyamuni features papier-mache sculptures of Buddha in the past, present, and future. The 16 disciples of Buddha appear on the temple walls with four Maharantsa protectors shown sitting in caves on either side of the door.

The Yidam Temple was used as a place of prayer by Choijin Lama Luvsankhaidav, and therefore closed to the public. In its center is a gilt bronze sculpture of one of the 84 Indian yogis, or Mahasiddha. Also depicted are the tantric gods Kalacakra, Mahamaya, Vajradhara and others with their shakti or consorts in postures of meditation that symbolize power and strength.

The fourth temple, the temple of amugulang or peace, is dedicated to the first Mongolian reincarnation of Boghda Jevzundamba, Undur Gegeen Zanabazar, (1635-1724).

Extra surprise: Kechara Forest Retreat, Bentong, Malaysia

Standing 24 feet tall, this Dorje Shugden statue is currently the largest one of its kind in the world. Commissioned by H.E. the 25th Tsem Rinpoche, this Dorje Shugden statue is housed in Kechara Forest Retreat, where it is the focal image for Dorje Shugden pujas and many other events. In mid 2015, the statue was consecrated by Dorje Shugden in trace through the famed Panglung Oracle.

    Dear friends,

Tibet has produced many powerful meditations, rituals and guidelines to help us gain spiritual protection, gain wisdom and higher states of consciousness. In general Tibet has produced many powerful methods for the growth of our spiritual evolution. Dorje Shugden is an angel, a saint, a powerful spiritual protector-warrior who originated 350 years ago when a highly awakened Tibetan Lama fulfilled his vows to become a special being to grant protection, wisdom, material needs, safety when travelling (normal and astral travel) and spiritual awakening. Both the Great 5th Dalai Lama and the current His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama composed short yet effective prayers to invoke upon the power and blessings of this special saint and protector. One can recite either one of the prayers that you feel suits you, anytime or even daily. When you feel a special need for help, you can recite either prayer anytime. When you are feeling down, afraid or just need a blessing, you can recite them. After reciting either invocation, it is good to chant the mantra of Dorje Shugden: Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha.

You do not have to be a Buddhist or practitioner of any religion to invoke upon the blessings and protection of this special enlightened and awakened angel Dorje Shugden. He helps all without discrimination or bias as he is filled with compassion and love. Divinity has no boundaries, they help all who call upon them.

Enclosed are the prayers in English, Chinese and Tibetan.

May you be safe, protected and blessed.

Divination (‘mo’) Text by Dorje Shugden

This is an important divination (‘mo’) text composed by Dorje Shugden himself. Dorje Shugden took trance of the Choyang Dulzin oracle lama, the senior oracle of Gaden Shartse Monastery, and instantly on the spot composed this text within two hours.

The divination text contains information on how to use dice to do divination for the future and is known to be highly accurate. When practitioners use this text, they will be in direct contact with Dorje Shugden to get answers to questions about the future. It is for those who have good samaya with Dorje Shugden and are free of the eight worldly dharmas to be of benefit to others in divining the future.

All enlightened beings are worthy of homage and worship. They are the best beings to take refuge in and we should offer them our prayers as we can put our full confidence in them. Of all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, I personally find that Manjushri is extremely important. This is because what keeps us in samsara (cyclic rebirth) is our total ignorance and misunderstanding of the reality of existence. What is necessary to penetrate this deep ignorance that keeps us bound in a perpetual state of reincarnation is wisdom. We need many types of wisdom which can be acquired by relying on Manjushri as our yidam (meditational deity). By focusing on his meditation, practice, mantra and path we can gain wisdom in order to have the tool to penetrate the reality of existence. Therefore, Manjushri is an extremely important Buddha for us to focus on and take refuge in.

COMPASSION at its best: His Holiness the Dalai Lama explained in Ladakh, 31 July 2018:

“Usually at the beginning of an empowerment there is a ritual to drive away interferences. But I no longer feel it’s consistent to regard some beings as evil forces. At the start of each day I cultivate altruism, but in the evening we say, ‘May the evil forces be driven away.’ There seems to be a contradiction here that I’m no longer keen to comply with. I’m not highly realized, but I have great confidence in the power of Bodhichitta.”

    Source: https://bit.ly/2wVsqSb

    ———————————————-

This latest statement by His Holiness the Dalai Lama is excellent. I fully believe in his compassion and I hope he will fully implement it.

All negative beings take rebirth with negative minds due to deep attachments. The attachments result in negative states of rebirth and angry minds that carry out harmful actions, like spirits or hungry ghosts who can be very bothersome because they are very angry as they died in the state of attachment in their former rebirths.

Indeed we need to generate compassion towards these beings, especially the formless type, as it would be the best remedy to stop their harm. We can recite mantras with love and bless them with it. While reciting prayers, we can meditate on them being at peace. When we generate compassion towards these harmful interferences of the formless type, many of them will calm down and stop their harm and even go away. Some of them, you can talk to them and subdue their harm and they will stop harming completely if they feel your love. That is how you can help them.

Many high masters of India and Tibet generated great compassion towards certain ghosts, spirits or interferers and subdued them in this manner and even made them into protectors of regions. I’ve witnessed this with one of my lamas where he subdued a female spirit that crossed over the Himalayas. After making the spirit promise it will not harm others, my lama gave the spirit a drink to seal the promise.

Since the Dalai Lama has manifested saying Dorje Shugden is negative (although many high lamas disagree), then he can apply this method to Dorje Shugden. He can ‘subdue’ Dorje Shugden by generating tremendous love, prayers and talking nice to Dorje Shugden who will be ‘subdued’. Then people are henceforth ‘free’ to practice Dorje Shugden without more discrimination, segregation and being called degrading names for practicing this protector.

Give peace a chance. His Holiness the Dalai Lama can generate great love towards Dorje Shugden and all the hundreds of thousands of Dorje Shugden practitioners that love the Dalai Lama and miss him like I do. May His Holiness the Dalai Lama bring peace and heal the rift with Dorje Shugden practitioners.

May His Holiness live very long and always be healthy,

Thank you Tsem Rinpoche for sharing with us the pictures of some holy Dorje Shugden statues. One very special Dorje Shugden statue is the one made by the 5th Dalai Lama. So many masters had relied on Dorje Shugden to help them spread the Dharma.

The 5th Dalai Lama was very attained and highly respected. If Dorje Shugden is an evil spirit, it is impossible he didn’t know because he was an emanation of Chenrezig, the Buddha of Compassion, he would have the clairyovance to know. As an emanation of Chenrezig, he would not allow the propitiation of an evil spirit. He had built a chapel for Dorje Shugden, composed prayers to Dorje Shugden, and made a Dorje Shugden statue, these are indications that Dorje Shugden is not an evil spirit and can be relied on.

Apart from the 5th Dalai Lama, other high lamas like the tutor of the 14th Dalai Lama, Trijang Rinpoche, Zong Rinpoche, Lama Yeshe, Pabongka Rinpoche, Domo Geshe Rinpoche all were very strong Dorje Shugden practitioners. Dorje Shugden had helped them tremendously in their Dharma work. Their contributions towards spreading Dharma are for us to see. These are the proof Dorje Shugden is not harmful.

For the first time available, Dorje Shugden and his entourage of 32 asssistants of his mandala.

Dorje Shugden is a powerful protector deity who is also an emanation of Manjushri, a wisdom bestowing Buddha. Therefore, he has great ability to help us to progress further on the spiritual path. He does this by helping us to overcome obstacles and problems for the modern individual.

Due to his enlightened nature, Dorje Shugden is able to manifest 32 deities and within the same abode resides Setrap and Kache Marpo:-

    1. 5 Dorje Shugden families or emanations. They consists of the following:-

    – Dulzin Dorje Shugden, which performs activities to eliminate inner and outer obstacles.
    – Shize, which performs activities to pacify all illnesses and disease.
    – Gyenze, which performs activities to increase all desirable material and spiritual wealth.
    – Wangze, which performs activities to control difficult people and circumstances.
    – Trakze, which performs activities to wrathfully eliminate all insurmountable obstacles and life-threatening situations.

    2. 9 Mothers. They represent protection of the five senses and developing control of the four elements. These are all attributes that signify their ability to assist tantric practitioners with their higher meditations.

    3. 8 Guiding Monks. They represent the Eight Great Bodhisattvas (Avalokitesvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Samantabhadra, Maitreya, Kshitigarbha, Akashagarbha, Sarva-nivarana-viskambini) and they bring about the growth of the Dharma, through the Sangha, Dharma practitioners and Dharma establishments.

    4. 10 Youthful & Wrathful Attendants. They represent the ten wrathful attendants to avert inner and outer obstacles. They are beings who are from Mongolia, China, Kashmir, India, Bengali, etc.

    5. Setrap. He is a senior Dharma Protector from India and an emanation of Amitabha Buddha. He had enthroned Dorje Shugden as an authentic Dharma Protector. Therefore, he also resides within the same mandala of Dorje Shugden.

    6. Kache Marpo. He is not an emanation of Dorje Shugden but he is still an enlightened Dharma Protector in his own right. He was originally known as Tsiu Marpo of Samye Monastery. However, he has placed himself under the service of Dorje Shugden as his chief minister, performing many activities in order to protect and benefit practitioners. Therefore, he stands guard at the main entrance of Dorje Shugden’s mandala. He often takes trance of qualified mediums to speak.

    7. Namkar Barzin. He is the reincarnation of an old Mongolian monk and when he passed away in Phari area of Tibet, his spirit was placed as a powerful assistant of Dorje Shugden. He guards and protects buildings and great institutions especially those that benefit others. He rides on a mythical Gyaling animal that resembles a goat but with scales.

These sacred images are available on *Vajrasecrets. They are made of high quality alloy and are one of a kind. They are based on the lineage of His Holiness Panchen Rinpoche’s monastery, Tashilhunpo in Shigatse, Tibet. In fact, the iconography of these statues are based on detailed photographs taken by H. E. Tsem Rinpoche during a trip to Tashilhunpo’s protector chapel. These are based exactly as the 10th Panchen Lama’s personal collection.

His Holiness the 10th Panchen Lama

Tibetans commonly refer to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama as the “sun and moon” of Tibetan Buddhism. They are the center of Tibetan Buddhist civilization, which draws to its sphere of influence millions of non-Tibetan practitioners. The Panchen Lama’s incarnation line began with the 16th abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen (1570 – 1662). He was bestowed the title of Panchen Lama by His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama after being declared as an emanation of Amitabha.

After being given the title, his three previous incarnations were posthumously also bestowed the title, making Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen the 4th Panchen Lama. He became a teacher to many Tibetans, Bhutanese and Mongolian religious figures, including His Holiness the 4th and 5th Dalai Lamas, and the 1st Jetsun Dampa of Mongolia. A prolific author, Chokyi Gyeltsen is credited with over a hundred compositions, including a number of commentaries and ritual texts that remain central in the Gelukpa tradition today. Along with his role as a teacher of the Dharma, the Panchen Lamas are usually responsible for the recognition of the rebirths of the Dalai Lamas, and vice versa.

The 10th Panchen Lama, Lobsang Trinley Lhundrub Chokyi Gyeltsen (19 February 1938 – 28 January 1989) continued both the spiritual and political roles of his predecessors. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, his contemporary, was even heard to say and echo the Panchen Lama’s own words that the Dalai Lama would safeguard Tibet from the outside while the Panchen Lama would safeguard Tibet from the inside, as he never left Tibet after the political troubles of 1959. He was truly loved by the Tibetans, all the way until his passing. When he taught, thousands of people would attend, not only from his own Gelug lineage, but masters and practitioners from all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

At his sprawling monastery of Tashi Lhunpo, he has a special chapel specifically dedicated to Dorje Shugden, where prayers and rituals are performed on a daily basis. In his great omniscience the Panchen Lama held Dorje Shugden as the principal Dharma protector of the monastery. He also personally propitiated Dorje Shugden among other Dharma protectors, and even wrote extensive prayers and rituals to Dorje Shugden. These rituals and prayers are contained within his ‘sung bum’ or collected works, which are provided here. As such a great lama, with an erudite and clear understanding of the Buddhist scriptures, a teacher to millions in both Tibet and China, from an established incarnation line and an emanation of the Buddha Amitabha, he could not be mistaken about his practice of Dorje Shugden.

His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama is known for his composition of commentaries and practice texts that are still in use by contemporary Buddhist practitioners both in Tibet and across the world. One of these is a powerful ritual composition propitiating the compassionate Dorje Shugden.

Upon the request by Acharya Lobsang Jangchub to compose a shorter version of the prayer (sadhana) for the exhortation of activities of Dorje Shugden, Panchen Lama immediately composed an abbreviate form of Dorje Shugden’s Kangsol. This text is entitled “Manjunatha’s (Tsongkapa) Lineage protector Dorje Shugden and five forms wrathful propitiations and confessional prayers and fulfilment of activities rites” or “Melodious sound of Accomplishment of the Four Activities” for short. Once the prayers were completed, he had signs and strong feelings that Dorje Shugden has been working hard to protect the Buddhadharma in general and the lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa specifically.

Mirroring the abilities of one of his earlier incarnations, Khedrub Je, a disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa and master of both sutra and tantra, the Panchen Lama used his compositional skill and poetic prowess to create a masterful sadhana. Worthy of note is a praise in which the first letter of each verse is a Tibetan vowel. Such compositions are rarely seen, and have historically only been used when propitiating senior Dharma protectors such as Palden Lhamo and Kalarupa.

The Panchen Lama also stated that while composing the Dorje Shugden sadhana (prayers) he was filled with a sense of happiness and bliss. He ends the composition with not only his official title but his ordination name, Tenzin Trinley Jigme Choje Wangchuk, endorsing the validity of his work. He composed the sadhana in his own Tashi Lhunpo monastery while in the Hall of Clear Light and Bliss.

    Dear Kecharians and friends,

Last night, I gave a teaching to a group of people who were in Kechara Forest Retreat. I shared with them the correct way to pray for our loved ones and why we shouldn’t “demand” Dorje Shugden with fulfilling our wishes but let Dorje Shugden decide what is the best outcome. He has infinite Manjushri wisdom beyond our own and we should trust this wisdom. Sometimes what we pray for is not what should be fulfilled. Sometimes what we don’t want turns out to be the better result in the future.

I also shared with them about a beautiful monk, Tsawa Pulthok Rinpoche, who was jailed and badly tortured by the soldiers for 19 years, starting back in 1959 in Lhasa, and yet he has no anger towards his torturers. He was released and had resettled in Nepal where I met him. For the remainder of his life, he spent his time in meditation, retreats and pujas for the public until he passed. He was glowing, happy and very proud of the fact he was a student of His Holiness Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche, which he told me when we met. He did full meditations on Vajra Yogini and short puja to Dorje Shugden daily in his small room in Kathmandu, Nepal where I had to honor to join in his prayers. He told me he was very happy to have his room to do his meditations, pujas and prayers openly. Whatever happened to him, he accepted as part of his karma and he spent much time in prison meditating and quietly teaching dharma to his other cellmates. He was very much respected in prison in Lhasa because he never showed anger, always meditated and consoled others, giving them great strength. He endured much hardship, torture and beatings but he never lost his monk vows. His full understanding of karma helped him not feel any anger or bitterness towards the soldiers. He told me that daily, he would meditate that the karma of others in prison would come to him. That all the torture and abuse he received was so others in prison did not have to suffer this. He said suffering for others was what kept him going and made him be able to endure the pain.

We are not bound by our experiences. We are bound by our choice. I also reminded those were present about the good person inside each and every one of us, and how we should not “bury” this good person with our excuses because the more excuses we give, the deeper this good person is buried and soon the layers of excuses will make it very difficult for us to find this good person. We are all beautiful good people and we should not let it get lost by lying, laziness, lack of integrity and procrastination. We all have a choice. If we have to make excuses, we should choose to make excuses to be a winner. When we win, we make ourselves happy and those around us happy.

The teaching session went well and it was spontaneous, and I requested the people who live and work in and around Kechara Forest Retreat for the talk. We had some good laughs to during the talk.

    Thank you,
    Tsem Rinpoche

‘If we trust in karma which exists, then there is no reason for anger’.

“If the Dalai Lama, if His Holiness the Dalai Lama can be harmed by Dorje Shugden, then we might as well not practice Buddhism anymore. If His Holiness the Dalai Lama can have his life shortened by a so-called evil spirit, any evil spirit, then can he be Avalokiteshvara? So on one hand you say, we say, I say, everybody says, he is Avalokiteshvara; on the other hand you’re saying that he can be harmed by an evil spirit… Which one is it? Can he be harmed by an evil spirit or is he Avalokiteshvara? Do you think Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Tara all take refuge in something else to protect themselves from Dorje Shugden? How illogical is that? How illogical of people to say His Holiness the Dalai Lama can be harmed by an evil spirit, any evil spirit or “Dorje Shugden” evil spirit. How is that possible?” – Tsem Tulku Rinpoche

Listening to the chanting of sacred words, melodies, mantras, sutras and prayers has a very powerful healing effect on our outer and inner environments. It clears the chakras, spiritual toxins, the paths where our ‘chi’ travels within our bodies for health as well as for clearing the mind. It is soothing and relaxing but at the same time invigorates us with positive energy. The sacred sounds invite positive beings to inhabit our environment, expels negative beings and brings the sound of growth to the land, animals, water and plants. Sacred chants bless all living beings on our land as well as inanimate objects. Do download and play while in traffic to relax, when you are about to sleep, during meditation, during stress or just anytime. Great to play for animals and children. Share with friends the blessing of a full Dorje Shugden puja performed at Kechara Forest Retreat by our puja department for the benefit of others. Tsem Rinpoche

How can a nun curse someone they do not even know and wish the person to die quickly and be born in hell? What kind of nun is this? Shocking! What more she’s cursing a Buddhist teacher and a monk?! Is this the face of Bhutanese Buddhist?

This is so shameful for her as a nun, her teacher, her monastery, her country and her King. A sangha should not behave in such a manner. A Sangha should carry enlightened Buddha’s teachings of compassion and wisdom to benefit all sentient beings.

A Sangha is not supposed to promote hatred and certainly should not be cursing or wishing another person to die. That wish itself is already breaking one of the vows.
A Sangha is one of the 3 Jewels, an object of refuge. They should not behave like an uncivilized person with so much hate. This is how bad the Tibetan Leadership has spread their lies and hate about Dorje Shugden and Shugden Buddhist practitioners.

Thank you Rinpoche for this blogpost on the 10 holy statues of Dorje Shugden , including the largest Dorje Shugden statue in the world in Kechara Forest Retreat , Bentong.! These statues are testimonies to the power of Dorje Shugden’s blessings that extend in the ten directions. Many of these statues have great historical significance as they remind us that Dorje Shugden was once widely practiced and revered by great Masters who had proliferated the Dharma of Je Tsongkhapa in all directions , including Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche, the Tutor to the Fourteenth Dalai Lama, as well as the 5th Dalai Lama. In Tashi Lhunpo, seat of the Panchen Lamas, there are many statues and paintings of Dorje Shugden , besides this one.

Dorje Shugden is a widely practiced Dharmapala practice, originally in Tibet, then in Nepal, India and now in Malaysia. Dorje Shugden is a powerful protector propitiated by the Sakya and Gelug lineage for hundreds of years. Therefore it is no surprise that some of these holy statues possess historical values because the statues belong to holy masters of yester-years, for example, the handmade Dorje Shugden statue that used to belong to the 5h Dalai Lama. For us Malaysian, we have the largest Dorje Shugden statue in the world at Kechara Forest Retreat in Bentong. How fortunate. Thank you for this sharing.

Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa, Tibet

Over 400 years ago a great and learned lama Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was famed in Mongolia, Tibet, Nepal and China for being very saintly and compassionate. He resided in his residence (Zimkhang Gongma Ladrang) in Drepung Monastery. His root guru was H.H. the Omniscient 4th Panchen Lama and his close dharma brother was the 5th Dalai Lama.

The 5th Dalai Lama and Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen had a very close and dharmic relationship and often went to receive teachings together from the 4th Panchen Lama. They were close in age. They both became very learned and well known. During this time, the Dalai Lama was enthroned as a Dharma King of Tibet. But more people went to see Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen for teachings, initiations and divinations. This made the attendants of the 5th Dalai Lama feel threatened that Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s fame might usurp the power of the 5th Dalai Lama. So they had a khata forced down his throat. At that moment, Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen dissolved his psychic winds and generated the wish to be a great guardian of Buddha and Tsongkapa’s teachings. As his consciousness dissolved, he entered ‘bardo’ as a dharma protector of the highest order (jikten depey sungma). Many signs were seen throughout Lhasa at this time and the earth was said to have shaken in Lhasa. This event was already predicted to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s previous incarnation when he was one of the 8 main disciples of Lord Tsongkapa the Supreme Master and he served Tsongkapa directly by building Gaden Monastery.

When the 5th Dalai Lama heard what his scheming and power-hungry attendants had done, he was very distressed. He was very sorry Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was murdered and dishonored as he was a great dharma master. The 5th Dalai Lama composed an apology to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen. In Lhasa, tens of thousands gathered for the cremation of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s holy body. During the cremation, the 5th Dalai Lama’s apology was read out at which flames spontaneously arose from the body of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen commencing the cremation. From the body, during cremation, a powerful whirlwind of smoke tunneled into the sky for all to see as this was an indication Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s consciousness has arisen as the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. The Dharma Protector Setrap immediately recognized this new protector Dorje Shugden and ‘enthroned’ him as a powerful Dharma Protector in the realm of the Buddhas. From this, Setrap and Dorje Shugden are closely connected and very close working hand in hand always. After the cremation, the great 5th Dalai Lama built a Dorje Shugden chapel on the spot the cremation took place and named it Trode Khangsar. The 5th Dalai Lama commissioned the statue of Dorje Shugden in this chapel and had monks installed in the chapel to do continuous propitiations to Dorje Shugden. Trode Khangsar Chapel was a commemoration to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who was wronged and also a celebration of his consciousness arising as the World Peace Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

This Trode Khangsar Chapel still exists now in Lhasa where many make pilgrimages there. It is in good condition and was recently renovated. It is over 400 years old and a testimony to the respect the Great 5th Dalai Lama had to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who arose as Dorje Shugden.

I have visited this holy chapel in Lhasa years back. I’ve never heard of it till I was in Lhasa and by chance, I was told about it which I was happy to visit. I could not find the place but strangely a bunch of pilgrims from Amdo told me they would show me how to get there in Lhasa.

This short video is a short clip of this holy Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa today commemorating Dorje Shugden, built by the great 5th Dalai Lama. The great 5th Dalai Lama even composed a prayer to Dorje Shugden which is still available today and we can recite to invoke the blessings, protection, and assistance of World Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

Riding various mounts such as nagas and garudas,
Who subdues the mamos of the charnel grounds, praise to you!

Samaya substances, offerings and torma, outer, inner and secret,
Favourite visual offerings and various objects are arranged.
Although, previously, my wishes were a bit dense,
Do not stop your powerful apparitions, I reveal and confess!

Now respectfully praising with body, speech, and mind,
For us, the masters, disciples, benefactors and entourages,
Provide the good and avert the bad!
Bring increase like the waxing moon in spiritual and temporal realms!

    Moreover, swiftly accomplishing all wishes,
According to our prayers, bestow the supreme effortlessly!
And like the jewel that bestows all wishes,
Always protect us with the Three Jewels!

I am proud and rejoice in the fact that i live near to the abode of the largest Dorje Shugden statue in the world, in Bentong, Malaysia, all only possible through the kindness of our Guru.
I also had the great fortune to see the Dorje Shugden statue in Phergyeling Monastery, Nepal; a handmade statue by the 5th Dalai Lama. The old monks in the monastery shared with passion on how they protected these precious statues and relics with their lives whilst they escape Tibet during the invasion. The monks dis not take a flight or bus to escape Tibet; they had to walk for days and nights, hiding from attacks carrying with them with great care all the statues and relics that they could save. With folded hands I thank them for their courage and deepest devotion for the practice of Dorje Shugden. Without the faith of these monks and many others we would not have these precious teachings which benefits so many today . Thank you Rinpoche.

Although it is my wildest dream to one day be able to set my eyes on all these precious and blessed statues of Dorje Shugden, I am grateful that for now I have had audience with some of these precious images.

Even the photographs set up in this article will be a blessing for all who will view them now.

I really enjoyed reading the monasteries these blessed images are and the origins of their being there.

  40. Wai Meng Wan on Jul 13, 2016 at 4:31 pm

The 5th Dalai Lama was one of the greatest Dalai Lama of all times, and after the passing of Tulku Dragpa Gyeltsen, he had chosen to compose a prayer to Dorje Shugden and also made a statue of Dorje Shugden with his own hands. Thanks to the Dalai Lama, many more statues came after that.

  41. Su Ming on Jul 8, 2016 at 3:42 pm

When you read the above article and the Lamas who made them or had a part to play with these statue, your own logic minds actually goes…..”how can Dorje Shugden be a demon?, If he is then all the incarnation of these lamas including H.H The Dalai Lama is also not right?” It doesn’t make sense when there is now a ban on this protector.

I was fortunate enough to have had audiences with some of these sacred statue. What took my breath away was the statue which used to be in the protector hall, next to Gaden Shartse Lachi (Gompa). This was the statue which thousands of monks in Shartse worshipped for many years after their escaped to India. And it has been transferred out by H.H. The Dalai Lama in 1983 when the ban started to escalate within the monastery. That was when the split between the monks started and a lot of separation took place between families, friends and teachers. Very heartbreaking.

  42. Carmen Koo on Jul 7, 2016 at 3:06 am

Dorje Shugden’s practice has been a major practice, from India, to Tibet, Nepal to China, Mongolia, and the world. Even the 5th Dalai Lama, during the 16th century, officially recognised Dorje Shugden, wrote a praise to Dorje Shugden and handmade a statue of Dorje Shugden, known to be the 1st. I’ve had the honour to have audience with this statue due to the blessings and kindness of His Eminence, and the fact that His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama handmade this statue himself, speaks volumes. Of all deities and protectors, the 5th Dalai Lama handmade this statue.

All these esteemed lamas, from Lama Yeshe, to Trijang Rinpoche to Denma Gonsar Rinpoche cannot be wrong in their practice of Dorje Shugden, otherwise many of their incarnations would not be back today.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing such a lovely post with us.

It is very blessed to be able to see the holy statues of DS around the world. I was really fortunate enough to view in real life two of the above sacred statues in Nepal through the blessings of Rinpoche, with the pilgrimage organised by Kechara. Of course the best and most blessed is the tallest DS statue in Kechara Forest Retreat where we are so near to him.

  44. Sock Wan on Jul 4, 2016 at 7:21 pm

Up until today, Kechara Forest Retreat in Bentong, Malaysia hosts the largest Dorje Shugden. Being a Kecharian, I feel proud and also fortunate.

Because of Rinpoche, Malaysian Buddhists are introduced to this powerful and compassionate Dharma protector. It is a very easy practice to do, we don’t need the initiation in order to start our practice. A daily Sadhana (practice that you do everyday) can be found here: http://www.dorjeshugden.org/practice/diamond-path-a-daily-sadhana-of-dorje-shugden. When you encounter difficulties, reciter Dorje Shugden mantra Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha for protection.

    Thank you.

    Dear Rinpoche,

Thank you for sharing these sacred images.

This proves that Dorje Shugden practice had been around for quite some times and many monks do pray to him. His practice is reliable and benn relied on by many high lamas. It is impossible for high lamas to mistaken a spirit as a Buddha and worshipped him for hundreds of years.

Dorje Shugden is a fully enlightened Dharma Protector and he is safe to be relied on.

    Humbly,
    Chris

It is truly a blessing for us to read this blog post that show us the location of 10 magnificent Dorje Shugden statues in the world. We also have the opportunity, through the write up, to learn about the various monasteries in the Tibet, Kham, Sichuan, Mongolia, India and Nepal regions. It is evidential that Dorje Shugden is a renowned Dharma Protector propitiated by people of these vast regions. Many of these monasteries have history dating back to hundreds of years ago and having Dorje Shugden as their Dharmapala for centuries. It is most heart wrenching to know that a culturally and historically rich Enlightened Protector practice is subjected to defilement all because of political agenda by the Tibetan exile leadership. It is time for the atrocious political techniques to stop.

Thank You very much, Rinpoche, for sharing with us the holy images and write up.

    Humbly, bowing down,
    Stella Cheang

Venerable Ajahn Chah was a Thai Buddhist teacher of the Buddhadhamma and a founder of two major monasteries in the Thai Forest Tradition. Well respected and loved as a man of great wisdom, he was also instrumental in establishing Theravada Buddhism in the West. Interesting life story, how he chose to leave the settled monastic life and became a wandering ascetic. Walking across Thailand, lived in forests, caves and cremation grounds while learning from the meditation monks of the Forest of various monasteries. He wandered through the countryside in quest of quiet and secluded places for developing meditation. He even lived in tiger and cobra infested jungles, using reflections on death to penetrate to the true meaning of life. After years of wandering, Venerable Ajahn Chah established a monastery where he taught simple, practice-based form of meditation, and attracted a numerous of students including western foreigners. He was one of the greatest Dhamma teachers of the modern era. His wise teachings have continued to guide thousands of people along the path of Dharma. Venerable Ajahn Chah’s teachings of the Thai Forest Tradition gradually spread across all over the world. Several of Ajahn Chah’s Western students have since established monasteries throughout the world. Just in Thailand itself, there are more than 300 branch monasteries in Ajahn Chah’s tradition. Ven erable Ajahn Chah used his ill health as a teaching point, emphasizing that it was a living example of the impermanence of all things and reminded people to endeavour to find a true refuge within themselves. The legacy of Venerable Ajahn Chah’s teachings and legacy continues into the modern age.

Wonderful blog written on the practice of Kalarupa for us to understand better. As an emanation of Manjushri, Kalarupa’s practice helps us to destroy ignorance and to develop wisdom overcoming our anger and suffering . Awesome Kalarupa manifested in multiple forms to help sentient beings who personifies enlightenment by the conquest of anger. Kalarupa also regard as one of the three main Dharma protectors of the Gelugpa is extremely fierce and ugly, and tames all kinds of spiritual ugliness. The fierceness of his iconography teaches us to remind ourselves that all the causes and effects of anger arising from ignorance are dreadful and distorted.

Nepal is a very spiritual country, having a huge Dorje Shugden mural in Kathmandu, is indeed a big achievement for Kechara. Located on Charkhal Road in Dilli Bazaar, the mural can be found midway between our two Dorje Shugden chapels which are in Putalisadak and Chabahil. It is also very close to one of Kathmandu’s largest shopping malls. Many locals , tourist will be able to connect them to a powerful deity that is so closely associated with their culture. Well the mural not only beautiful but also full of symbolism and everyone merely by seeing it is blessed. Thanks to those talented artists and generous sponsors making it a success.

All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on. Letting go helps us to live in a more peaceful state of mind and helps restore our balance. A reminder for us all to go of attachment and meditating on impermanence and emptiness. We are to relinquish the domination of our ego and its habits to transform ourselves. A great reminder not to waste our previous life.

We are members of the Buddhist Temple in Taman Desa Jaya, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur and we have been issued membership by the president (DATUK YIP KUM FOOK), we are very sad because we are the foundation of this Temple

Now we can know who is always messing with people, and he always cheats money and women, he even uses Buddhism to find money.

Also, need to be careful with his brother-in-law (Simon Low Kok Meng) because he is a spy (CID) for DATUK YIP KUM FOOK and we will write some letters to AGONG SULTAN IBRAHIM IBN ALMARHUM SULTAN ISKANDAR as soon as possible.

The matriarchal cultures of the grandmothers have specific symbolism of animism shamanism, such as the horse, especially the blue horse, and the deer. These are two main symbols of a shaman woman and you can find them in many cultural folk lore, especially the Russian, Slavic, Siberian, Nordic, Finland, and Norway. It’s nice to see the Matriarchal Shaman Animism diety represented in Chinese.

Demons are disembodied spirits, supernatural being or spirit and unseen beings. We know they do exist and I believe they do. They have no physical form to them whatsoever. Demons do definitely exist. They are intelligent beings who are evil malicious spirits and are all dangerous entities. Valak is not to be summoned capriciously by anyone as they are dangerous beings when we invoke them having to face a heavy consequence. There are spiritual practices that we can ask for help a ritual of the wrathful Manjushri in the form of Trakze. Having a doing the practice daily without fail, consistently, as this Trakze practice has been proven to be efficacious to break the hold the Valak and other spirits. All thanks to our Guru bringing this practice to Kechara Forest Retreat, Bentong Malaysia.

Wow ,reading all these powerful quotes had me realised much better of giving even I have little. May H E Tsem Rinpoche’s sincere advice to reach the far shore of liberation to everyone reading this blog. The most truly generous people are those who give silently without asking any in return. There is no exercise better than reaching and lifting people up. A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal. Well creating and lighting for others we naturally light our own way. Helping others especially those unfortunate ones, make us feel more positive about our own circumstances.

Lama Tsongkhapa was an influential Tibetan Buddhist monk, philosopher and tantric yogi, whose activities led to the formation of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism . Lama Tsongkhapa was hailed as the second Buddha by contemporary Buddhist masters of his time. Famous for reviving Buddhism in Tibet and revered for elevating the Dharma to all its present glory. Hence having a 12 ft Lama Tsongkhapa Statue at new Kechara Gompa (Prayer Hall) is indeed a blessing. Its truly beautiful. Merely by looking at it is a blessing .

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer

Umze for the day was Siew Hong. She's just been with us for slightly more than a year now but she's proven her capability in leading the puja. Our Penang group members are so proud of her and her commitment in attending the weekly puja. Despite being eloquence and smart, she has beautiful chant as well. When she leads, make sure you are there to hear her chant for yourself! Kechara Penang Study Group by Jacinta.

Dharma sharing by Hue before we proceeded with DS puja & Rinpoche Swift Return puja. Hue is one of the long time Kechara Penang members and he comes to puja regularly. He shared that he truly believes that Dorje Shugden and Rinpoche always there guiding him. He shared how sometimes DS will give him hints to avert troubles ahead or to alert him when he 'misbehaved'. Hope many will come to know more about this powerful Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugden aka DS. Having Dorje Shugden is like having a powerful ally that will protect us day and night. Just trust Him and have faith. Kechara Penang Study Group, 25/11/2023 by Jacinta.
