Dear friends around the world,

A few days ago, I came across a video of a refreshing Tibetan man speaking very passionately. He looked interesting and creative in the thumbnail of the video, so I took a listen to it and I was pleasantly surprised by what I heard. So I wanted to share with you here what he said. I am half Tibetan (father) and half Mongolian (mother) but I am still a Tibetan and his sharing was excellent and I can relate to it very well having grown up in the USA. I was born in Taiwan, moved to USA and left for India when I was 22. I am now 52. I wanted to share this talk by him as it is logical, caring and full of wisdom.

This intelligent gentleman, Mr Shenpenn Khymsar, spoke so clearly and so well. He talked about how some Tibetans like him get criticized for being not Tibetan enough, about what it means to be a real political leader, China, what the Tibetan leadership need to do to bring the community back together again, for unity among our people and what being devoted to His Holiness the Dalai Lama should really be like.

He even said a lot of people pretend to be devoted to His Holiness but actually, they are sycophants who are sucking up to His Holiness the Dalai Lama for some self gain. Mr Shenpenn also said that the Tibetan way of thinking really needs to change because their mentality is “backwards, Stone Age and medieval”…yes, his exact words.

But the point this intelligent man was trying to get across is, the Tibetan leadership need to think more widely. They need to realise that it’s possible to coexist in harmony with one another, even if there are differences in thoughts, religious belief, sexual orientation and opinions. I thought, “WOW!” because I have been saying this for years but have come across very few other Tibetan people who came to the same conclusion as me. What he said clearly showed that he has been thinking about the issues and thinking about how to really solve them, and what will be a good solution. You can tell he really cares. He was very polite and respectful throughout the video but you could tell he is frustrated.

So I was very encouraged to listen to his 20-over minute speech. Honestly speaking, it gave me hope for the future of Tibetans and the Dorje Shugden issue, because he showed that the younger generation are thinking more widely. Thinking on uniting all Tibetans even interracial mixed Tibetans. Doesn’t matter if you’re a Tibetan who practises Dorje Shugden, or if you can speak Tibetan or not; if you are born Tibetan, you should be considered Tibetan and treated as such. And I admire him for talking the truth because I know from experience that it’s not easy. But when you love your community, you love your people and you see negative things happening, how can you stay silent?

By the way, Shenpenn’s name literally means “benefit others”. I haven’t heard it before as a name but I think is a unique, very spiritual name which matches a person who looks very interesting and creative. It will be good to expose more people to views like this from such an artistic, exposed and passionate modern Tibetan. With him speaking out in this way, I hope more who share his views will be encouraged to talk too. Then when one person talks, and another person talks, and another and another, eventually the Tibetan leadership can’t ignore it anymore, and will have to listen and do something about it. If we stay silent, change will not happen. This applies to our personal lives, to the Dorje Shugden issue, or to any other issue that we care about. Things don’t change when people stay silent. So please do listen to Shenpenn’s speech and share it with your friends. Shenpenn’s speech is not about Dorje Shugden per se, but it covers everyone coherently.

I am concerned very much about the Dorje Shugden issue as it has caused me separation from friends, my monastery, family and some opportunities to do more for others. The Tibetan leadership constantly encourages other Tibetans to avoid Tibetans like me who practise Dorje Shugden and they segregate us. We have no representation in the Tibetan parliament. We have no involvement with any mainstream Tibetan activities nor are we allowed to join any secular talks and gatherings with His Holiness the Dalai Lama whom I love very much. I have attended many of the Dalai Lama’s religious and secular talks prior to the ban on Shugden in 1996, and I miss him and I always wish him the best. I am not joining in his talks these days because I am not allowed to according to our ‘democratic’ leaders, so I’m just following instructions. As a Dorje Shugden practitioner, I am not allowed to join in His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s talks which is not fair because he is my leader. I should be able to join because I am Tibetan. For religious reasons, perhaps I do not need to go to his talks but for secular talks, I should be allowed to go because I am a Tibetan. I don’t wish any harm for His Holiness ever. We are banned from all Tibetan hospitals and other social services in India and Nepal. Throughout the Tibetan communities in the western countries, many still avoid Dorje Shugden people so they look politically correct. We are given the ‘freedom’ to practise Dorje Shugden but if we do, we are completely segregated from all other Tibetans. It is labelled as freedom but in actuality it is a way to force us to give up our belief systems not sanctified by our leadership which is contradictory to democracy. The Tibetan leaders should not care what religion or god we believe in. We should not be segregated and hated because of our religion or god. That is very backwards.

The Tibetan leadership talk one way with the West for aid and another way to their own Tibetans. With Tibetans they can talk quite harshly and unfairly I’ve seen. I know for a fact from a very close friend who has worked very closely with the Indian government, that the Indian government has written to the Tibetan leadership to tone down their rhetoric against the Dorje Shugden religion and groups because at one time, it was becoming very harsh. This is definitely confirmed and he has the paperwork to show it. It is shocking to the Indians that certain gods can and cannot be worshipped and that is dictated to us by our leaders / ‘government’ as there is no such thing in their society. This is not freedom of religious choice but 100% force to abandon my spiritual practice and if I do not, I am targeted with hatred, segregation and being called all types of deragatory names as I am experiencing since 1996.

I practise Dorje Shugden because my root guru gave me the practice over 30 years ago and that is the only reason. We must keep our commitments (samaya) to our guru. I cannot break my commitment to my guru. I am not connected to China or not a paid Chinese agent to create schism within my Tibetan community as I am accused of. I have great admiration since a very young age for China and her great culture as I do for Japan, Mongolia, Egyptians and Greece. I wish very much for China and Tibet to be good friends one day. The Tibetan leadership likes to spread this type of rumour against thousands of Tibetans who continue to practise Dorje Shugden inside and outside of Tibet to browbeat them into giving up Dorje Shugden. Once ‘branded’ a Chinese agent (of course without proof), you are completely alienated by other Tibetans either because they believe it or want to be on the politically-correct side. This is terrible as we Tibetans should all be united no matter our religion, background or region. We must be united because there are so few of us and we must preserve our culture and religions. I wish so much, as Shenpenn says, to be united and to be close with each other as there are so few of us.

I want to share Shenpen’s opinion here with all of you because I want more Tibetans to open up to wider ways of thinking about politics and the world. That way their understanding will develop more and they can come in line with how the rest of the world thinks, therefore I am sharing his video and transcript in English with all of you so more people can hear what Shenpenn has shared. Since he posted on Facebook which is for the public, I decided to get his message out even stronger and further. I thank Shenpenn for speaking up, wish Shenpenn all the luck in the world and the blessings of all that is divine. May he fulfill his dreams and inspire many others to do so. Thank you.

Tsem Rinpoche

Translated Transcript

Today I’m talking through Facebook Live in Tibetan and if I don’t talk in Tibetan I’ll be kicked out of the Tibetan community [joke]. Then they’ll say I’m not a pure Tibetan or I’m not a Tibetan. Especially for us Tibetans who stay in North America, I’ve done a lot of work for Tibetan organisations so today what I want to say, I have no choice but to say it. So the purpose of today’s talk is not to make anyone black, or to insult anyone, or to target anyone. I’m talking today because I have pride in being a Tibetan and for the Tibetan cause, and I am someone who is very worried about the Tibetan situation. For this reason I am talking today. Everyone is allowed to talk about their views, and we can talk respectfully to each other about issues. We Tibetans have to open our eyes bigger, we have to open our ears, and we have to understand more things and see into more things. Every year in Dharamsala in March and September, the Tibetan government has big meetings. Since we are people without a country, our responsibility over there mainly should talk about how we have to improve our education, improve our communities, and most important is how we can make relationships with the Chinese government.

Whether we want the Middle Way (umaylam) or we want full independence (rangzen) we have to find a way to talk to the Chinese government. But since officially all of us endorse the Middle Way, we should find a way to talk with the Chinese government about our Middle Way for Tibet. But instead of this, whenever we have these meetings, I always see that people talk about small things that do not matter, that have no consequence. Please don’t be upset that I’m saying this. I’m saying this because I have a responsibility as a Tibetan citizen to tell the truth and I feel it’s important that I say this.

Please all of you in Dharamsala, the Tibetan community, the Parliament and the government officials, whenever you get together for meetings, please talk about how to remove the difficulties for the sake of Tibet. Please talk about Tibet’s welfare and how to unite as one the six million Tibetans. Please talk about these subjects. Please don’t mix politics and religion. Since religion and politics have been mixed, we are now suffering the detrimental results of this mixture. Please leave politics on one side, and religion on the other side.

So how can we confront the Chinese, how to make a better relationship with India, America and the European Union? How to make a better relationship with foreign countries? How can we be less of a sycophant? How can we REALLY make our community united and one? Please don’t talk about unity among Tibetans for one’s own personal gain. We have to think all of us are Tibetans. We must think we are all Tibetans and as Tibetans, if you want to be Middle Way, be Middle Way. If you want to be an independence seeker for Tibet, you can be that. If you want to be Gelug, Kagyu, Sakya, Nyingma or Bönpo, you want to be Dolgyal (Dorje Shugden) follower, you want to be a Tibetan Muslim, you want to be a Tibetan transgender, you want to be a Tibetan gay, you want to be a Tibetan lesbian – be what you want but it’s important we all think strongly we are Tibetans. We are all one.

All of you sangha, please have more interest in the Dharma, I respectfully request of you. For those who are doing work in politics, please have good attention to politics correctly. We have to understand the politics of the world, and in relations to China, we’ve only shown about 30% of our power. We have to think about how to show 80% of our power in relations to China. We should do things in a way that doesn’t hit ourselves and to stop talking small, unnecessary talks, for example like separating our people by saying “they are not Tibetan”, “they are not a pure Tibetan”, “they speak English, they don’t speak Tibetan”, “he practises Dolgyal (Dorje Shugden)”, “he wants independence”, “he is Lukar Jam”, “they are this, they are that” – when we keep doing this separation and accusation, we all create the loss. Nobody else gets the loss, just us.

I’m 43 and I’ve been very involved with our Tibetans, and what have I noticed within the Tibetan communities? I’ve also travelled a lot, all over the world. I’ve taken a lot of interest in world politics. I’ve taken a lot of interest in Dharma and what I’ve noticed among our Tibetans, and I’m going to say this not because I want to damage anyone or I feel hurt, but it’s what I’ve noticed and I’m saying it as a Tibetan. Parliamentarian of North America, Tsewang Ringzin-la, we had a lot of hopes in him. I myself had a lot of hopes in him. I voted for him, I supported him. He said something about interracially-mixed Tibetans, and those interracially-mixed Tibetans are not pure Tibetans.

When I heard him say that about interracially-mixed Tibetans [that they are not pure Tibetans], I was shocked. We are in the 21st century, we use Facebook. The whole world knows each other. Science has advanced. But until now, we are talking like we are still in the archaic, Stone Age medieval times. It doesn’t look good when we talk like that. I am an constituent in your constituency. I am a Tibetan. I am one who takes responsibility for the Tibetan cause, and I am someone who can talk honestly without being a sycophant. So Tsewang Ringzin-la, you should apologise officially to everyone. If you do that, it won’t make you smaller. It will make you better. Someone who is a leader should think vastly, should think widely, should think long-term. Leaders should be like that, and should not talk about small things like this. Should not think small and look at things in a small way. When you do that, it hurts our community.

Tsewang Ringzin-la, I have nothing personal against you but as a responsible Tibetan, and as a constituent of the North American Tibetan community, it becomes my responsibility and it becomes my duty to hold you accountable because that is the responsibility of democracy. So please, you owe the Tibetan community an apology, you owe the mixed Tibetans an apology.

So what else would I like to share with you? I never met the European Tibetan Parliamentary representative, Venerable Thubten Wangchen-la – his name should be this – he made a video. He talks as a parliamentarian, he talks as if he knows Dharma, he talks as if he is knowledgeable, and as a monk, he apologised to the public for taking a picture with Lukar Jam. So I assume that the public must’ve criticised him for taking a picture with Lukar Jam. So this Venerable Thubten Wangchen-la is showing that he has great loyalty to the Dalai Lama so he’s claiming his views are different to that of Lukar Jam. And then he’s saying he doesn’t agree with Lukar Jam’s views.

If someone thinks in a big way, they’ll understand what I’m saying and if someone thinks small, they won’t understand what I’m saying. So Thubten Wangchen-la, if you’re a leader, you’re like parents and if parents have five kids, all five kids will have different characters. One child will have good education, one kid will be naughty, and then the other kids will be different types of characters. But the parents’ responsibility is to unite all the kids and bring all the kids together, regardless of their characters, and to make them united. So parents have to show inspirations and examples to the kids. So this is the responsibility of a leader, taking care of the people like a parent does to children.

So Thubten Wangchen-la, you’re explaining and apologising to the public for taking a picture with Lukar Jam and I found that you behaved very poorly [for apologising for taking the picture]. I’m not saying this because I support Lukar Jam. Whether it is Lukar Jam or anybody else, people will have different types of thinking and it’s allowed. That is the democratic way. Whatever Lukar Jam’s views are, it doesn’t matter – he’s still a Tibetan. In his mind, he has great concern for the Tibetan cause. With Lukar Jam, I don’t agree with everything. I don’t agree with so many things with so many people but I respect. When you say like that, that you took a picture with him, what’s the message you’re sending to the public? That Lukar Jam is like a demon? Who will that damage? It will damage all of us Tibetans in the future. It will damage us Tibetans and our cause in the future. So as a leader, you should say that “talk that separates Tibetans, I don’t support. I took a picture with Lukar Jam, that’s my right.” That’s what you should say, Thubten Wangchen-la. “Lukar Jam has other views besides the Middle Way and that’s okay, but I took a picture with him because he’s a Tibetan and that’s my right.”

Thubten Wangchen-la repeated a few times, “You guys know me, isn’t it? You guys know who I am, don’t you? You guys understand me.” It wasn’t the way it seems. He sounded very apologetic [for taking the picture]. So if you are the leader, you don’t become a leader by praising just His Holiness. You don’t become a leader just by following His Holiness’s political views. You become a leader by empathising with every single opinion. You become a leader by uniting everybody, you become a leader by being farsighted and by being progressive. You have to think widely, otherwise already our society has bumped itself many times. There’s a lot of talk about different sects. There’s a lot of problems between Middle Way and independence people. How we are going to approach or confront the Chinese government, there’s no talk on that, none. All I see is you guys praising the Dalai Lama, that’s it, just praising. You guys don’t always have to praise the Dalai Lama and you don’t always have to talk in relations to His Holiness or praise His Holiness. His Holiness the Dalai Lama is Avalokiteshvara, the Dalai Lama is not the one with the problem. It’s the six million Tibetans who have the problem. Tibet is the one with the problem.

His Holiness, if we really love His Holiness, and if we really, really, really worship His Holiness and revere His Holiness, we should do everything to make sure His Holiness returns back to Tibet before he dies. That should be our responsibility, not sycophancy, not always try to appease him. Always be a sycophant this way, be a sycophant that way, be a sycophant that way – always trying to talk sweet, always thinking how to get personal benefits. When we do this, everybody will get losses. Most of us don’t have any political awareness. If you talk to 80% of the Tibetans, they don’t have any political awareness. We don’t have political awareness. One of the reasons why we don’t have political awareness is because we are incapable of thinking on our own. Incapable of thinking for ourselves. We think because somebody else thinks for us. So everyone please think carefully.

I have been working for the Tibetan cause for 20 years with no benefits in North America. I’m not part of any organisation, I’m not a member of any association but as a Tibetan I’m involved with all of them. I’m against people who harm the Tibetan cause. For Tibetan unity, we always talk nicely from our mouth. We all talk about Tibetan unity and then listening to me, we are not going to be unified. How are we going to be unified, is you listen to my talk, I listen to your talk and we share our views. Then we examine in the end which view will actually benefit the Tibetan cause. What kind of talk can we speak that benefits everyone? Don’t talk from one’s ego and insecurity, and make the talk so big. It just makes our people less. And I’m very disappointed with the parliament. In one way we say we don’t have a government; it’s become not a Tibetan government. We don’t have a government but we have a parliament. We don’t want independence but we will hoist the Tibetan flag. We want Middle Way but we will still sing the Gelug [anthem] in Dharamsala. It’s very confusing to the public. Please do not do that.

Please do our path very clearly. So if you wish the Middle Way, you have my support but there are responsibilities that come with the view. You follow your Middle Way Path. It doesn’t mean that your duty is just to wait for the Chinese to give you genuine autonomy. Your duty is also to be responsible and to hold accountable our leaders. This is our responsibility. So everyone please pay attention to this. This medieval talk, please don’t talk like that any more. “This is Tibetan, this not pure Tibetan” – don’t talk like that. We Tibetans are already small in number. Even if you work for the Tibetan cause and you don’t speak Tibetan, it doesn’t matter. Even a Tibetan who doesn’t speak the Tibetan language and has the Tibetan cause in their heart, we should welcome them.

We shouldn’t separate our people, we should unite them. Otherwise we damage ourselves greatly. If you really respect His Holiness the Dalai Lama, whatever he says, you should practise. In front of the Dalai Lama, if you just say “kyabsuche (homage to you)”, you won’t become a Buddha. We all have to become united and become one. We have to have a lot of care for each other.

During the Sikyong election, Lukar Jam was not allowed to speak in Minnesota, Toronto and other places. They didn’t give him a chance to speak. That really damages our community. You won’t be seen as someone who really has a lot of faith in the Dalai Lama if you do that. Please don’t do like that. I’m talking today because I’m extremely concerned. This is my responsibility and duty as a Tibetan. If you like it, that’s okay. If you don’t like it, that’s okay. But please pay attention to what I say. Don’t talk from ego but talk to benefit others. If you think what I say is the truth, then tashi delek. If you don’t think what I say is the truth, also tashi delek to you. I don’t like to segregate people. I see all Tibetans as the same, even if their views are different, I see them all the same. I have a lot of Tibetan friends who views are completely opposite of mine. I welcome that. Please, all our leaders don’t do like that. Please, our leaders do things to better our Tibetan community. Don’t only wear your chuba when His Holiness comes and…[approximate translation-any mistakes is solely our responsibility]

I was born in Darjeeling, India to Tibetan refugee parents, the first Khymsar son to be born in exile from Tibet. I was born under the sign of the Tiger, an auspicious start, for I have felt that throughout my life that I have the energy and the will of a tiger. I was also born at the crossroads of many cultures: Tibetan, Indian, and Western. My parents operated a small Tibetan restaurant frequented by locals and tourists alike. I was educated at Goethals Memorial School, an Irish Catholic School in Kurseong, Darjeeling, and grew up speaking Tibetan, English, Hindi, Nepali, Bengali and Urdu fluently. I fell in love with rock and heavy metal as a teenager when I heard Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall?” and Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me” for the first time.

But such a diverse multicultural life for a Tibetan refugee in Darjeeling became complicated as I grew up and political problems exploded in Darjeeling. Once the summer capital for the British when they ruled India, Darjeeling has suffered from being shuffled about geopolitically: first by the British then by the independent Government of India. Frustrated by the communist government of West Bengal and its failure to modernize ‘the Hills’ of Darjeeling, the Gorkha people of Darjeeling began agitating for their own homeland, Gorkhaland in the 1980s. This agitation turned my idyllic childhood in Darjeeling into a claustrophobic adolescence where strikes would shut down the town for weeks on end and make everyone suspicious of each other. I lived amidst the legacy of Chinese Communist invasion of Tibet and British Colonial rule in India, but would never allow systematic forces of government and oppression turn me into a victim or someone who accepted the status quo.

As I grew up a frustrated teenager in Darjeeling, the only thing that kept me from getting in serious trouble was music. Since the first time I heard Pink Floyd and Def Leppard, I knew I wanted to become a rock musician. I was not alone in my aspiration to become a rock musician – Darjeeling was home to a lot of talented rock bands and musicians. When rock and roll was born in the West in the 1950s and 1960s, it also made its way to Darjeeling and inspired its own scene. Darjeeling musicians were all were self-taught, playing their hearts out on low quality instruments. Unlike the musicians in the West, Darjeeling bands did not have the same opportunities to record albums and tour, the furthest they could get was Kathmandu Nepal. Because of the lack of opportunity, many musicians turned to drinking, drugs and despair. I knew I did not want to go that route, so I decided to get out of Darjeeling and go to the West to follow my dream.

So fifteen years ago I left India for the U.S. I arrived first in Chicago and immediately lived the life of an immigrant just struggling to get by, taking jobs like cutting grass and working in food courts. When I saved enough money, I moved to New York City and applied for political asylum, but after thousands of dollars in effort, my appeal was denied and again was at a crossroads in life.

Rejected by my first home in the The States, I moved to Toronto and became a Canadian citizen. I returned to the white-collar world and financial comfort, but my dream to become a musician remained unfulfilled. Each day I went to work in an office where I was increasingly reminded of what my real calling in life was, what had brought me to the West in the first place: music and film. Then one day I had enough money, quit my job, said goodbye to the corporate world, and formed a heavy metal band, Shangrila. I was the first Tibetan to form a heavy metal band in the West. Shangrila toured North America for a few years, and I wrote and produced the album ‘Balance the Darkside.’ I found myself drawn to heavy metal because it is the most technical kind of heavy music, and as a self-taught guitarist, I appreciate the challenges and rewards this kind of music brings to the harmony of my hands and mind. I also gravitated toward heavy metal music because it is counter-cultural and non-conformist, the kind of music that reflects my life and principles. I took my songwriting a step further by not just critiquing political, social and cultural systems, I also wrote about liberation from the darkside, or at least finding balance in the midst of worldly darkness. Consequently, my songwriting spans a wide spectrum, from provocative songs titled ‘What the Fuck?’ to the first heavy metal song written for the Dalai Lama, ‘Soul from the East’ that includes over 4-minute guitar solo which I consider a musical prostration to His Holiness.

Having established my rock roots in Toronto, I moved to Vancouver in 2006, and am now a full-time independent musician, writer, filmmaker and political activist. I am currently working on the project of my life, a documentary with the working title “Journey of a Dream.” In this film, I will tell my life story (a taste of which appears in this bio), and in doing so I will tell the story of Tibetan refugees in India, of Darjeeling musicians looking for a big break, of immigrants who come to the West, of people slaving away in the corporate world while their dreams wither away, and of the generation of kids who grew up in the 1980s and wonder today where the heart and soul of rock music went. Just like my music, though, this documentary is about not giving up on your dreams no matter what darkness society, history or politics has in store for you. I will begin filming the first part of this documentary in India and Nepal this fall 2008, then the second part in North America in 2009, and plans to debut “Journey of a Dream” in the 2010 film festivals.

Mr.Shenpenn Khymsar a diehard activist known for speaking the truth without the shroud of diplomacy . Shenpenn Khymsar has travelled around the globe in search of his fellow Tibetan refugees and has documented their emotional and political struggles. He is a self taught musician, a filmmaker and a creative, modern Tibetan man who spoke so eloquently and openly. His words embodying the pride, courage and integrity as much as the wisdom and compassion . All about the on-going troubles his fellow Tibetan refugees were facing. He even has documented their emotional and political struggles. He is speaking up being a Tibetan and for the Tibetan cause hoping that more Tibetans understand more things and see into more things. That’s wonderful and a good choice he has made. As a responsible Tibetan citizen he just has to tell the truth. Interesting read .
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Mantras are sacred verbalized words that invoke the protection and blessings of the deity to whom the mantra is ascribed. Mantras are also the manifestations of Buddhas in the form of ‘sounds’, hence the various mantras of Dorje Shugden contain the essence of the Protector.

    Dear friends,

Tibet has produced many powerful meditations, rituals and guidelines to help us gain spiritual protection, gain wisdom and higher states of consciousness. In general Tibet has produced many powerful methods for the growth of our spiritual evolution. Dorje Shugden is an angel, a saint, a powerful spiritual protector-warrior who originated 350 years ago when a highly awakened Tibetan Lama fulfilled his vows to become a special being to grant protection, wisdom, material needs, safety when travelling (normal and astral travel) and spiritual awakening. Both the Great 5th Dalai Lama and the current His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama composed short yet effective prayers to invoke upon the power and blessings of this special saint and protector. One can recite either one of the prayers that you feel suits you, anytime or even daily. When you feel a special need for help, you can recite either prayer anytime. When you are feeling down, afraid or just need a blessing, you can recite them. After reciting either invocation, it is good to chant the mantra of Dorje Shugden: Om Benza Wiki Bitana Soha.

You do not have to be a Buddhist or practitioner of any religion to invoke upon the blessings and protection of this special enlightened and awakened angel Dorje Shugden. He helps all without discrimination or bias as he is filled with compassion and love. Divinity has no boundaries, they help all who call upon them.

Enclosed are the prayers in English, Chinese and Tibetan.

May you be safe, protected and blessed.

Divination (‘mo’) Text by Dorje Shugden

This is an important divination (‘mo’) text composed by Dorje Shugden himself. Dorje Shugden took trance of the Choyang Dulzin oracle lama, the senior oracle of Gaden Shartse Monastery, and instantly on the spot composed this text within two hours.

The divination text contains information on how to use dice to do divination for the future and is known to be highly accurate. When practitioners use this text, they will be in direct contact with Dorje Shugden to get answers to questions about the future. It is for those who have good samaya with Dorje Shugden and are free of the eight worldly dharmas to be of benefit to others in divining the future.

For the first time available, Dorje Shugden and his entourage of 32 asssistants of his mandala.

Dorje Shugden is a powerful protector deity who is also an emanation of Manjushri, a wisdom bestowing Buddha. Therefore, he has great ability to help us to progress further on the spiritual path. He does this by helping us to overcome obstacles and problems for the modern individual.

Due to his enlightened nature, Dorje Shugden is able to manifest 32 deities and within the same abode resides Setrap and Kache Marpo:-

    1. 5 Dorje Shugden families or emanations. They consists of the following:-

    – Dulzin Dorje Shugden, which performs activities to eliminate inner and outer obstacles.
    – Shize, which performs activities to pacify all illnesses and disease.
    – Gyenze, which performs activities to increase all desirable material and spiritual wealth.
    – Wangze, which performs activities to control difficult people and circumstances.
    – Trakze, which performs activities to wrathfully eliminate all insurmountable obstacles and life-threatening situations.

    2. 9 Mothers. They represent protection of the five senses and developing control of the four elements. These are all attributes that signify their ability to assist tantric practitioners with their higher meditations.

    3. 8 Guiding Monks. They represent the Eight Great Bodhisattvas (Avalokitesvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Samantabhadra, Maitreya, Kshitigarbha, Akashagarbha, Sarva-nivarana-viskambini) and they bring about the growth of the Dharma, through the Sangha, Dharma practitioners and Dharma establishments.

    4. 10 Youthful & Wrathful Attendants. They represent the ten wrathful attendants to avert inner and outer obstacles. They are beings who are from Mongolia, China, Kashmir, India, Bengali, etc.

    5. Setrap. He is a senior Dharma Protector from India and an emanation of Amitabha Buddha. He had enthroned Dorje Shugden as an authentic Dharma Protector. Therefore, he also resides within the same mandala of Dorje Shugden.

    6. Kache Marpo. He is not an emanation of Dorje Shugden but he is still an enlightened Dharma Protector in his own right. He was originally known as Tsiu Marpo of Samye Monastery. However, he has placed himself under the service of Dorje Shugden as his chief minister, performing many activities in order to protect and benefit practitioners. Therefore, he stands guard at the main entrance of Dorje Shugden’s mandala. He often takes trance of qualified mediums to speak.

    7. Namkar Barzin. He is the reincarnation of an old Mongolian monk and when he passed away in Phari area of Tibet, his spirit was placed as a powerful assistant of Dorje Shugden. He guards and protects buildings and great institutions especially those that benefit others. He rides on a mythical Gyaling animal that resembles a goat but with scales.

These sacred images are available on *Vajrasecrets. They are made of high quality alloy and are one of a kind. They are based on the lineage of His Holiness Panchen Rinpoche’s monastery, Tashilhunpo in Shigatse, Tibet. In fact, the iconography of these statues are based on detailed photographs taken by H. E. His Holiness the 10th Panchen Lama

Tibetans commonly refer to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama as the “sun and moon” of Tibetan Buddhism. They are the center of Tibetan Buddhist civilization, which draws to its sphere of influence millions of non-Tibetan practitioners. The Panchen Lama’s incarnation line began with the 16th abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen (1570 – 1662). He was bestowed the title of Panchen Lama by His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama after being declared as an emanation of Amitabha.

After being given the title, his three previous incarnations were posthumously also bestowed the title, making Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen the 4th Panchen Lama. He became a teacher to many Tibetans, Bhutanese and Mongolian religious figures, including His Holiness the 4th and 5th Dalai Lamas, and the 1st Jetsun Dampa of Mongolia. A prolific author, Chokyi Gyeltsen is credited with over a hundred compositions, including a number of commentaries and ritual texts that remain central in the Gelukpa tradition today. Along with his role as a teacher of the Dharma, the Panchen Lamas are usually responsible for the recognition of the rebirths of the Dalai Lamas, and vice versa.

The 10th Panchen Lama, Lobsang Trinley Lhundrub Chokyi Gyeltsen (19 February 1938 – 28 January 1989) continued both the spiritual and political roles of his predecessors. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, his contemporary, was even heard to say and echo the Panchen Lama’s own words that the Dalai Lama would safeguard Tibet from the outside while the Panchen Lama would safeguard Tibet from the inside, as he never left Tibet after the political troubles of 1959. He was truly loved by the Tibetans, all the way until his passing. When he taught, thousands of people would attend, not only from his own Gelug lineage, but masters and practitioners from all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

At his sprawling monastery of Tashi Lhunpo, he has a special chapel specifically dedicated to Dorje Shugden, where prayers and rituals are performed on a daily basis. In his great omniscience the Panchen Lama held Dorje Shugden as the principal Dharma protector of the monastery. He also personally propitiated Dorje Shugden among other Dharma protectors, and even wrote extensive prayers and rituals to Dorje Shugden. These rituals and prayers are contained within his ‘sung bum’ or collected works, which are provided here. As such a great lama, with an erudite and clear understanding of the Buddhist scriptures, a teacher to millions in both Tibet and China, from an established incarnation line and an emanation of the Buddha Amitabha, he could not be mistaken about his practice of Dorje Shugden.

His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama is known for his composition of commentaries and practice texts that are still in use by contemporary Buddhist practitioners both in Tibet and across the world. One of these is a powerful ritual composition propitiating the compassionate Dorje Shugden.

Upon the request by Acharya Lobsang Jangchub to compose a shorter version of the prayer (sadhana) for the exhortation of activities of Dorje Shugden, Panchen Lama immediately composed an abbreviate form of Dorje Shugden’s Kangsol. This text is entitled “Manjunatha’s (Tsongkapa) Lineage protector Dorje Shugden and five forms wrathful propitiations and confessional prayers and fulfilment of activities rites” or “Melodious sound of Accomplishment of the Four Activities” for short. Once the prayers were completed, he had signs and strong feelings that Dorje Shugden has been working hard to protect the Buddhadharma in general and the lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa specifically.

Mirroring the abilities of one of his earlier incarnations, Khedrub Je, a disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa and master of both sutra and tantra, the Panchen Lama used his compositional skill and poetic prowess to create a masterful sadhana. Worthy of note is a praise in which the first letter of each verse is a Tibetan vowel. Such compositions are rarely seen, and have historically only been used when propitiating senior Dharma protectors such as Palden Lhamo and Kalarupa.

The Panchen Lama also stated that while composing the Dorje Shugden sadhana (prayers) he was filled with a sense of happiness and bliss. He ends the composition with not only his official title but his ordination name, Tenzin Trinley Jigme Choje Wangchuk, endorsing the validity of his work. He composed the sadhana in his own Tashi Lhunpo monastery while in the Hall of Clear Light and Bliss.

“If the Dalai Lama, if His Holiness the Dalai Lama can be harmed by Dorje Shugden, then we might as well not practice Buddhism anymore. If His Holiness the Dalai Lama can have his life shortened by a so-called evil spirit, any evil spirit, then can he be Avalokiteshvara? So on one hand you say, we say, I say, everybody says, he is Avalokiteshvara; on the other hand you’re saying that he can be harmed by an evil spirit… Which one is it? Can he be harmed by an evil spirit or is he Avalokiteshvara? Do you think Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Tara all take refuge in something else to protect themselves from Dorje Shugden? How illogical is that? How illogical of people to say His Holiness the Dalai Lama can be harmed by an evil spirit, any evil spirit or “Dorje Shugden” evil spirit. How is that possible?” – Tsem Tulku Rinpoche

This video condensed and made simple the history of the Dorje Shugden ban and the sufferings Dorje Shugden people experienced and continue to experience for 20 years. The video also laid out and reveal the truth and facts that Dorje Shugden was the Protector who advised His Holiness the Dalai Lama to flee to India and hence His Holiness’ life is saved. There is no religious freedom for the Dorje Shugden people worldwide because of the Dorje Shugden ban executed by the Central Tibetan Administration. We are, until today being discriminated and persecuted for simply practising our choice of religion and this is the truth.

Mr Shenpenn Khymsar is honest and outspoken about the Tibetan refugee issues. I can see he is very fond of the Dalai Lama and would like His Holiness to return to Tibet before he dies. As a writer, film maker and activist, he can do a lot to influence his community to become more politically aware and to find ways to work with China in order to create a better relationship. I wish him all the best. May his wishes be fulfilled.

  19. Joy on Oct 28, 2017 at 3:18 am

Refreshing to see this what a breath of fresh air. Goes to show that Tibetans who actually get themselves out of Dharamsala and to a different country can actually think more openly and expand themselves like Mr. Shenpenn here.

What he said is true… Tibetans should be divided and the Tibetan Government in exile has basically failed their people and because of that they have used Dorje Shugden as a scapegoat and manipulated their own people, dividing so that their attention will turn to this and not their leaders. That is so shameful but it is happening. No good leader would ever divide and discriminate their own people. No good leader would encourage their own people to fight with each other and cause so much disharmony within the community.

I hope to see Shepenn speak up more and more Tibetans to speak up too. CTA’s horrible policies are not democratic at all. I hope more will be brave and say like it is.

I agree with Mr Shenpenn Khymsar that there is absolutely no need to segregate Tibetans for the “Tibetan Cause”. The only reason I can think of why their government (CTA) would divide and conquer is solely for their own personal financial gain and they are absolutely not sincere to help the people.

I am sorry for the Tibetans are so naive, but I do hope people like Mr Shenpenn Khymsar can wake up some of the Tibetans.

Recently Beng Kooi and Martin on behalf of myself and Kechara was lucky to have audience with His Holiness Gaden Trisur Rinpoche Jetsun Lungrik Namgyal of Gaden Shartse Monastery. He lives in around Paris, France. His Holiness is 91 years old and very healthy and alert. He was the 101st throne holder for Tsongkapa and was the head of the Gelugpa school of Buddhism and was very successful during his tenure. He is a strong practitioner of both Sutra and Tantra of Je Tsongkapa’s tradition and a master of all Buddhist knowledge. He holds steadfast to his protector Dorje Shugden very strongly. So we can see even the highest throneholders who are masters of Sutra and Tantra also practices Dorje Shugden knowing the benefits.

Beng Kooi and Martin brought photo albums of Kechara Forest Retreat/Kechara and updates on Kechara and our works. His Holiness was very pleased to listen and offered some gifts back.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this very interesting article with us.

My Shenpenn Khymsar is a breath of fresh air, he is so sincere and passionate and truly cares for the future of Tibet and Tibetans, and truly cares to listen to every one’s viewpoint and not just the popular or politically correct one. He believes in unity of all Tibetans and harmony. In short he is so very similar to Tsem Rinpoche. WE need more Tibetans like Mr Shenpenn who is courageous in speaking out the truth. He abhors sycophants and people who only care about what people think of them , and not about the truth and about what really matters and needs to be done; nor about what people like to hear, but what must be spoken for real actions to be taken. He urges people to think for themselves.

He speaks succinctly and convincingly about true leadership, because he has those qualities.Indeed it’s only people like him who can lead Tibetans towards progress

Like Tsem Rinpoche, he loves and respects the Dalai Lama. He can’t understand why people have to fawn over the Dalai Lama. Yes, he also sees that Tibet must engage with China and find a way to negotiate with them . But, as long as Tibetans remain small-minded and indulge in talking about “impure Tibetans” or “not being Tibetan enough”, they will continue to remain in the medieval age!

    Dear Rinpoche,

Shenpenn is full of wisdom and he truly understands the qualities and demands of a good leader. Tibetans need more people like Shenpenn. His views and suggestions to the leadership of CTA is so practical and applicable.

There are so many similarities between his thoughts and Your Eminence’s. His proposition is so practical and yet very much needed in the most crucial of all for Tibetans – UNITY. Every Tibetan, no matter their inclinations (politically, socially or personally), must unite as a “nation” before any struggles can be overcome. This fact is proven in many sovereign countries around the world – great examples would be Japan, Switzerland, China, to name a few. These countries’ citizens are united and when there is unity, the entire nation of citizens will be taken noticed of and will command respect from the international community.

Likewise, for Tibet, there has to be unity amongst it own people REGARDLESS of their background. Shenpenn have elicited the most fundamental and crucial points in drawing the TIbetans together.

He has also boldly express his views that the CTA needs to have a real hard and straightforward self assessment to determine its own fate in the future. Are they relevant still in the TIbetan struggle?

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing and I pray that may Dorje Shugden clear up obstacles so that more and more people will get to hear about Shenpenn and awaken themselves in re-igniting Tibet again.

    Humbly yours,
    Lum Kok Luen

A brilliant speech by Shenpenn Khymsar that is filled with wisdom. He is well informed of current affairs of the world as well as the political and spiritual conditions of the Tibetans in exile. Shenpenn is very brave to speak up for he really cares for Tibet despite the potential risk to his life from voicing his opinions.

For the last 60 years of its existence, Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) had made no headway about the future of Tibet.
More Tibetans like Shenpenn must speak up and take action to bring about a change to this deadlock and for the overall welfare of Tibetans. It is time to reelect a new leadership that really work for the benefit of its people.

Tibetans in exile at all levels or background must act fast, stay united and come up with genuine solutions for Tibet. If no solutions are forthcoming, Tibetans who had already lost Tibet will next lose their rich culture, identity, Tibetan Buddhism and more.

The world does not support the Tibetan Cause like it used to. Even now the Indians in Arunachal Pradesh are tired of and are strongly asking the Tibetans to leave India for infringing on their rights.

What is going to happen to the Tibetan refugees in India if the protests against them continue? CTA should not stay silent and not do something to quell the protests and unrest.

One of the immediate tasks for CTA is to lift the 20-year ban on Dorje Shugden. This ban has divided and caused so much suffering and disharmony amongst the Tibetans. It serves no purpose to enforce the ban other than for the selfish gains of the CTA. Without harmony and unity, there is no way Tibetans can work together towards achieving autonomy let alone independence of Tibet.

  29. Pastor Elena Khong Jean Ai on Oct 17, 2017 at 7:49 pm

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this news with us. It’s interesting because he espouses many of the same views that Rinpoche has shared with us for many, many years already.

Shenpenn has the understanding that to actually want the best for Tibet, you must be willing to face the truth. Sometimes things have to be said which some may find offensive, which some may find difficult to hear but what will be worse is never saying it at all, and living in denial until it’s too late. The Tibetan community needs more leaders like him. Whether it is for rangzen or umaylam is not so much the point; the point is more that if his manner of thinking is nurtured into many more young Tibetans, they will be better equipped to achieve success wherever they are in the world and ultimately, will suffer less.

So I hope that his views are picked up by more and more people. As someone who was raised in a multicultural, multiethnic environment where all of us coexist peacefully, I know from experience that it is possible to respect one another regardless of any differences in our opinions, beliefs or views. So for the Tibetan people, I want for them what Malaysia has, which is a stable, dignified government, and a stable, prosperous society with prospects for a better future. That would be really wonderful to see.

Be Patient

Give the room a chance to answer you. Patience is a virtue. And if after awhile, people don't respond, perhaps they don't know the answer or they did not see your question. Do ask again or address someone directly. Do not be offended if people do not or are unable to respond to you.

Venerable Ajahn Chah was a Thai Buddhist teacher of the Buddhadhamma and a founder of two major monasteries in the Thai Forest Tradition. Well respected and loved as a man of great wisdom, he was also instrumental in establishing Theravada Buddhism in the West. Interesting life story, how he chose to leave the settled monastic life and became a wandering ascetic. Walking across Thailand, lived in forests, caves and cremation grounds while learning from the meditation monks of the Forest of various monasteries. He wandered through the countryside in quest of quiet and secluded places for developing meditation. He even lived in tiger and cobra infested jungles, using reflections on death to penetrate to the true meaning of life. After years of wandering, Venerable Ajahn Chah established a monastery where he taught simple, practice-based form of meditation, and attracted a numerous of students including western foreigners. He was one of the greatest Dhamma teachers of the modern era. His wise teachings have continued to guide thousands of people along the path of Dharma. Venerable Ajahn Chah’s teachings of the Thai Forest Tradition gradually spread across all over the world. Several of Ajahn Chah’s Western students have since established monasteries throughout the world. Just in Thailand itself, there are more than 300 branch monasteries in Ajahn Chah’s tradition. Ven erable Ajahn Chah used his ill health as a teaching point, emphasizing that it was a living example of the impermanence of all things and reminded people to endeavour to find a true refuge within themselves. The legacy of Venerable Ajahn Chah’s teachings and legacy continues into the modern age.
Thank you Rinpoche for this great sharing.

Wonderful blog written on the practice of Kalarupa for us to understand better. As an emanation of Manjushri, Kalarupa’s practice helps us to destroy ignorance and to develop wisdom overcoming our anger and suffering . Awesome Kalarupa manifested in multiple forms to help sentient beings who personifies enlightenment by the conquest of anger. Kalarupa also regard as one of the three main Dharma protectors of the Gelugpa is extremely fierce and ugly, and tames all kinds of spiritual ugliness. The fierceness of his iconography teaches us to remind ourselves that all the causes and effects of anger arising from ignorance are dreadful and distorted.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor Antionette for this detailed sharing,

Nepal is a very spiritual country, having a huge Dorje Shugden mural in Kathmandu, is indeed a big achievement for Kechara. Located on Charkhal Road in Dilli Bazaar, the mural can be found midway between our two Dorje Shugden chapels which are in Putalisadak and Chabahil. It is also very close to one of Kathmandu’s largest shopping malls. Many locals , tourist will be able to connect them to a powerful deity that is so closely associated with their culture. Well the mural not only beautiful but also full of symbolism and everyone merely by seeing it is blessed. Thanks to those talented artists and generous sponsors making it a success.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on. Letting go helps us to live in a more peaceful state of mind and helps restore our balance. A reminder for us all to go of attachment and meditating on impermanence and emptiness. We are to relinquish the domination of our ego and its habits to transform ourselves. A great reminder not to waste our previous life.
Quoted Ceasing to do evil, Cultivating the good, Purifying the heart .
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing such a meaningful teachings with folded hands.

Winning the lottery was part of my dreams, I tried so hard to win big but all to no avail, until I came across Dr Lucas online who made my dreams come through and made me win 10 million dollars. I was a logistics manager who lives in Lancaster, S.C. and works about an hour’s drive away, in Charlotte, N.C., I stopped at a store to buy a scratch-off lottery ticket during my lunch break, because Dr Lucas gave me all the assurance that the numbers are not going to fail after I did all he asked me to do. Dr lucas is a powerful Dr that is on a mission to eradicate poverty from people’s lives and i have confirmed that by winning $10 million with the numbers he provided for me, it is my promise to tell the world about my experience with Dr Lucas and that’s what I’m doing now, you can win the lottery fast with the help of Dr Lucas he is tested and trusted Email: Drlucasspelltemple@gmail. com or WhatsApp +234 904 794 3567 he will help you.

We are members of the Buddhist Temple in Taman Desa Jaya, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur and we have been issued membership by the president (DATUK YIP KUM FOOK), we are very sad because we are the foundation of this Temple

Now we can know who is always messing with people, and he always cheats money and women, he even uses Buddhism to find money.

Also, need to be careful with his brother-in-law (Simon Low Kok Meng) because he is a spy (CID) for DATUK YIP KUM FOOK and we will write some letters to AGONG SULTAN IBRAHIM IBN ALMARHUM SULTAN ISKANDAR as soon as possible.

The matriarchal cultures of the grandmothers have specific symbolism of animism shamanism, such as the horse, especially the blue horse, and the deer. These are two main symbols of a shaman woman and you can find them in many cultural folk lore, especially the Russian, Slavic, Siberian, Nordic, Finland, and Norway. It’s nice to see the Matriarchal Shaman Animism diety represented in Chinese.

An inspiring act of a selfless Lama feeding strays whether its night or day. Truly an example for us all to feed those lonely strays . Yes I do agree compassion starts with feeding strays. Reading this blog again to refresh myself to do more. Strays animals generally lead a life of poor welfare on the street. Feeding strays is a compassionate act.
Thank you Rinpoche and Anila for this sharing.

Demons are disembodied spirits, supernatural being or spirit and unseen beings. We know they do exist and I believe they do. They have no physical form to them whatsoever. Demons do definitely exist. They are intelligent beings who are evil malicious spirits and are all dangerous entities. Valak is not to be summoned capriciously by anyone as they are dangerous beings when we invoke them having to face a heavy consequence. There are spiritual practices that we can ask for help a ritual of the wrathful Manjushri in the form of Trakze. Having a doing the practice daily without fail, consistently, as this Trakze practice has been proven to be efficacious to break the hold the Valak and other spirits. All thanks to our Guru bringing this practice to Kechara Forest Retreat, Bentong Malaysia.
Thank you Rinpoche for this wonderful sharing for us to understand better.

Wow ,reading all these powerful quotes had me realised much better of giving even I have little. May H E Tsem Rinpoche’s sincere advice to reach the far shore of liberation to everyone reading this blog. The most truly generous people are those who give silently without asking any in return. There is no exercise better than reaching and lifting people up. A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal. Well creating and lighting for others we naturally light our own way. Helping others especially those unfortunate ones, make us feel more positive about our own circumstances.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing all these powerful quotes.

Lama Tsongkhapa was an influential Tibetan Buddhist monk, philosopher and tantric yogi, whose activities led to the formation of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism . Lama Tsongkhapa was hailed as the second Buddha by contemporary Buddhist masters of his time. Famous for reviving Buddhism in Tibet and revered for elevating the Dharma to all its present glory. Hence having a 12 ft Lama Tsongkhapa Statue at new Kechara Gompa (Prayer Hall) is indeed a blessing. Its truly beautiful. Merely by looking at it is a blessing .
Thank you Rinpoche and team effort making it possible.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

Find one of the most beautiful temples in the world in Nara, Japan. It is the 1,267 year old Todai-ji temple that houses a 15 meter Buddha Vairocana statue who is a cosmic and timeless Buddha. Emperor Shomu who sponsored this beautiful temple eventually abdicated and ordained as a Buddhist monk. Very interesting history and story. One of the places everyone should visit- https://bit.ly/2VgsHhK

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
