Although, there might be contradictions about the truth about Mali, nevertheless its sad having animals being confined in certain area. It’s very necessary to have awareness about animals in general. Thank you Rinpoche for constantly creating awareness on animals.
Animals are living beings like us, will feel pain like us too.
If the animals get too stressed, they could die easily because of it.
Be kind to them. Because we are the only one who can help them in this world.
It’s so much sadness in this picture. No living beings like to live alone and confine to a small place. Animals are supposed to live freely in the nature. We should not support any kind of abuse and torture to animals.
Came across this old post. Sad to see Mali been alone waiting to be released. Elephant are captured from the wild or bred in captivity are always been exploited. Could not imagine this poor Mali been keep solitary confinement for the the past 35 years in a zoo.
Mali should be where she belongs to in wild forest. Thats where Mali could roomed freely with others.Hopeful by now Mali is free.

Poor Mali baby very sad to see her standing alone. No one deserve this kind of life. She must be release on the wild where is belongs to. Look at her eyes , she looks very sad, I can imagine 35 years in captivity , it is pure cruelty
天啊35年来一直孤单，这是什么样的日子？其实现在爱护动物组织都一致鼓吹大家不要再参观马戏团，不要再到泰国骑大象了。因为这些动物要让人类观赏和骑上去都是受到非常残忍和不人道的训练。如果人类一直在这方面有所要求，那么就更多的动物被一直被不人道对待。请大家认真看待。

Sad to see Mali is alone. nobody deserves to be alone, I can’t imagine being alone for 35 years! I’d prolly go mad. We must make sure people are aware of this.
Dear Rinpoche, I used to love going to the zoo when I was a kid because I love to see various kind of animals, thinking they were fine and enjoying their life in the cage. I was totally wrong to have that impression, how could anyone or any animals would be happy if they were to be put in a jail for no reason at all. Perhaps all those monkeys came right in front of the cage and jumping around were not telling us their excited nor happy but is gesture of sadness and wanted us to help them.

Feeding animal with food and shelter is not enough, and not humane enough. Animals do have emotional need like human do. We should respect and provide as far as we could.
Free Mali, no animal or human should have that kind of life imprisonment and so lonely. If the Zoo insists on keeping Mali, at least find some companion for Mali.

Loneliness is a terrible state of mind, but here it is a horrible physical state forcing a lonely state of mind.

No one deserves to be alone and ill treated like this not even animals. I have signed the petition, liked and shared the pages. Thank you for sharing this and bringing awareness to more people Rinpoche. I hope it makes a difference and Mali finds a friend of her kind soon. Being alone is just as terrible as any torture, it hurts her mentally in a long term.

Animal are often treated as a playing toy, whenever human feels wanted to, they’ll treat the animal whatever way they like, that’s to satisfy their desire. Some people abuse animal is because of their hunger for power, they have not had much successful action in life, and instead of feeling failure, they use their power on animal, to abuse animal, to control animal etc. I’ve seen many cases, when someone are not happy with something, but they can’t lash it on that person, so they go back and lash it on their pet. Pity, yes, but they couldn’t help it, I would suggest them to go see doctor.
What benefit do we get by confining her for so many years? The worse torturing a living being can have is not physically abused but its mentally abused, and it can last for the while live for that being to suffer continuously. Animal has feeling too, animal has pain too, they do not speak like human doesn’t mean they don’t feel. We must all share this and create more awareness to stop all animal abuse, it is difficult to stop every from doing this, bit if everyone put in their effort, this can be stopped, it take not one or two person’s responsibilities, but its everyone’s responsibilities to save the animals who can’t speak for themselves.

If this was a properly maintained Zoo,then they would understand that it is not healthy to cage a animal alone for such a long time.I would not think that is so difficult to find a mate for the elephant.
After so long alone,the elephant will have a psychological scar.Would she be able to mix with others if given a chance.
The zoo keepers is definitely very cruel and inhuman.

Dear Mali, you’re so cute!! And you totally deserve to be in the wilds where you belong. I’m sorry tht we are ill treating you to this extend.. I’m sorry that we are so cruel.. Hopefully when the petition is heard, the authorities will set you free just like how Mother Nature intended it to be. 🙂

Sigh… Such pain to see Mali so lonely! All the animals in zoos and circus is just so wrong. These animals should be given big places to roam and of course their own kind to accompany each other. Maybe authorities should just keep them for a couple of years and change new animals so that the old ones can be released to enjoy their freedom. We eat, abuse, kill, torture, display animals like they have no feelings when in fact they do but we ignore it. It’s really inhumane… They deserve our love and attention but most of all, our compassion!
This is one reason why I do not visit or bring my family to zoos, period.
Let us use our voices to help spread the word to eliminate the abuse of any animal similar to Mali, wherever it may be. “A man should wander about treating all creatures as he himself would want to be treated”, if we seriously and honestly wish to improve the World. Yes together we can stop all abuses of animals. All living human beings’ conduct, with regard to animals shold be regulated by humane feelings/or reasons, which pohibits the infliction of purposeless pains and sufferings on them. As said in the scriptures, violence begets violence. This the reaction for immense-cruelty produced by humankind. This is something we should seriously take in our attempts to bring peace,harmony and unity into the world for the benefit of all beings!
I just liked Mali’s Facebook fan page. When you tell people about circus, the first thing that comes to people’s mind is that circus is a very entertaining place that animals and humans are working happily together. But in the inside of the circus the trainer beat the animals when the are training them. They beat the animals until the animals do the trick that they wanted. It’s so sad that animals are forced to do things that they didn’t wanted to do. I sure hope that no more animal abuse continue in this earth.
I really hate seeing animals like elephants being tortured like this. Why do we bother going to zoos? We pay good money to encourage captivity and encourage these animals to be captured. They were not rescued people, but captured!!! Better we put that money in to an Animal Sanctuary that saves lives and nurse those animals that are injured, lost, abandoned, no? Why are humans so ridiculously stupid? GREED! That’s why! We should boycott zoos if we really really want to help and care.
Zoos should be changed to Animal Sanctuary, pathetic zoos like this one should be closed down! Sorry, why have a zoo if you cannot afford proper comfort living for your “rice bowl” earnings, the animals?
I wish there were proper animal laws and real animal activist and animal rights, animal police to shut these places and people down!
I wish someone would spend time with this elephant. An elephant should never have to do this to itself. It should always have someone else to spend time with it. Thank you for sharing Rinpoche.

This is so sad. This elephant needs to be freed soon. Imagine being placed in the same situation, noone can handle it. Sign the petition!

We should never abuse, hurt, torture or be cruel to animals who can’t protect or defend themselves, who can’t speak our language, who can’t understand why we are hurting them. They deserve love and care, just like we do.

Poor Mali… elephants are social animals… they do not belong in captivity! They should be free and able to be with their own herd. I hope Mali will have a chance to be free in the wild soon.
Gosh… 36 daus is way too long… But 36 years??? It is interesting how even animals find a way.to ‘comfort’ themselves wjen on deepest despair. Poor Mali… In signing this simple petition in the hopes that she may finally have some repreeve!

Poor Mali! Never mistreat people or animals who are under our control. Never abuse people and animals who are weaker than us. Never neglect those who need our attention and care especially when we can make a difference because we would never want to be in their shoes or receiving end of abuse and harm. I cannot contemplate what Mali’s previous life was like to have deserved such neglect but it doesn’t matter because we can do something about it for poor Mali. Karma is a teaching that should be used to help us foster compassion rather than judgement or worse still, an excuse not to help. In this case, it is as simple as liking the page and signing the petition. So little to help poor Mali. We should all do this. It takes nothing for us to be just kind.

It is really sad to know that even animals have to go through such suffering such as having to be in Manila zoo in solitary confinement for 35 years already.

This poor elephant has been confined for so long, its only friend is its own tail. Not much of a company. Imagine yourself in a similar situation. Not a pretty picture.
