All she needed was a hug…

Dear friends,

You must really see this video and read this story. You want something to warm up your day, break your heart and also has a happy ending? Well you are clicking onto the right story here. A true story. Please share this with others as touched me and it will touch you too.

Edie the Maltese

I came across a very touching video about a dog that was rescued from Lancaster Animal Shelter in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, like most animal shelters, Lancaster Shelter has a high kill rate… Many many dogs are euthanised on a daily basis and Edie, was supposed to be one of them. Although most animal shelters start out with the noble reason to save animals, many shelters are unable to care for the dogs the way that they should be… probably due to the lack of funds and the sheer number of dogs at the shelter.

Edie was branded to be “too aggressive” for adoption and was placed in line to be euthanized by the shelter… but this adorable Maltese was so afraid, and out of compassion an animal rescuer saved her from such a terrible fate… She spent 15 days at the animal shelter before she was saved, narrowly escaping death. After being rescued, you can see from the video that she was so terrified that she defecated herself… Poor poor Edie. What she experienced before and at the shelter must have been traumatizing for her…

Do watch the video below. The man who saved her from the shelter is truly compassionate. As soon as Edie sat on his lap, she calmed down tremendously, turning into an affectionate dog like she must have been once upon a time. Looks like she’s not aggressive after all… just a scared, lost little dog. See how a dog that was once labelled “too aggressive to be adopted” turned out to be the most lovable dog anyone would ever want to have, after just one hug…

Always go the extra mile to save a life just like what these animal rescuers did. Life is so precious… There are millions of animals at the hundreds of thousands of animal shelters that could use a loving home. Try not buy pets from a pet store but adopt them from a local shelter. Everyone deserves a second chance…

This is the Facebook page of the group of people that saved Edie. Do give them your support! http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=579952662054946&set=vb.568256666557879&type=2&theaters

Words written within the video:

3-10-2010

I got a call from my friend, Bronwyne, who told me about Edie.

Edie was scheduled to be euthanised yesterday at the Lancaster shelter, but Bronwyne decided not to let it happen.

She told me that Edie is really scared, and asked if I could meet her at the vet so I can evaluate her.

Edie was so scared that she defecated. So I quickly pulled her out of the corner, and onto my lap right away.

I hope she understands it’s just a temporary look.

Everything is so scary at the shelter, especially when you weigh ten pounds.

Please don’t overlook these animals when you are at the shelter.

All Edie needed is a hug.

Thank you Edie Gobbie from the American Maltese Association for helping with this project.

Thank you Stephanie Babcock for always being there for the rescued animals.

and most important, special thanks to Bronwyne Mirkovich for saving Edie’s life.

Please sure this video with everybody you know.

Thank you! Eldad

It is very heartbreaking to see how scared Edie was in the beginning when she was approached by the rescuer. She looked traumatised, perhaps she was bullied by people before. She must have lived on the street for quite some times looking at how dirty she is.

She was aggressive not by nature but because she needed to protect herself. Luckily, she was not put to sleep, a kind-hearted rescuer came to see her and showed her love. Edie just wanted to be protected and feel safe. When the rescuer assured Edie she would be taken care of, she immediately put down her guard and was very obedient.

Animals are like human beings. They will feel scared and they need protections. They are more vulnerable than human. Since we are stronger than them, we should protect them, but not inflict pain on them.

Heartfelt watching the beginning of the video. Could imagine the fear the furry Edie encountered, so much so hiding at the corner. Edie was so scared and just needed is a hug and pad from some kind soul . Bronwyne Mirkovich is so compassionate , kind for saving Edie’s life. Thank you too Edie Gobbie from the American Maltese Association for helping with this wonderful project to rescue animals. Life is so precious nor matter what it is , it is still a life……human or doggie. Dogs are our best friends, never harm, abuse or hurt them.
Thank you Rinpoche for this wonderful sharing.

So glad that Edie is rescued and now have a good home to take care of him. Animals is just like human, they will have feeling of scared and need care too. We should not just assume the dogs are ‘aggressive’. In fact just like us, they need a human touch.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this video. It reminds us to be kind and not to abuse animals.

Dear Rincpoche, Edie must have been treated really badly or have seen other dogs going mad and put to sleep (just maybe). She was so scared that she even pooped But I’m really glad that she is free and being loved by Eldad. I have never seen a dog that is so afraid of humans, I think someone just have tortured her really badly before she met Eldad.

This is good lesson for us learning, all animals have feeling and they are need care and love from others .Edie is so scare to the stranger but after Bronwyne Mirkovich give her a warm hug and massage, Edie is so cute and adorable 🙂 Wish all the pet owners can treat their pet with great love and care.

Beings in the animals realms suffer from ignorance and are at the mercy of human beings, they just can’t help it. thank you for producing this video, that shows that love can heal and help animals.

  10. Cliff on Jul 29, 2013 at 3:09 am

Such a compassionate man to have taken care of Edie. Such a poor scared little dog. Rinpoche is right, after learning and being aware about the facts that dogs should have a second chance and what goes on in pet stores just trying to make money, we really should be adopting as oppose to buying a pet from the pet store. These animals have been through so much suffering we can’t even imagine and they really do deserve a second chance. I also feel dogs whom you rescue as they grow, theyd become more attached to you and more loyal and loving. I really hope more people would support animal shelters and adopt a dog or a cat than going through a petstore to buy one. Thank you for sharing this video Rinpoche.

The baby must have been harmed before or else it wouldnt have reacted this way… dog is no different to human, like us, they have feeling, they know what is going on around them and they can feel horrified too when they know they might be in danger. Thank you Rinpoche for continously remind us to be kind to our animal friends, love them and do not harm them.

Most dogs do not remain still when coming face to face with strangers. In Edie’s case, she was agitated and calmed down when she found herself in the warmth of Bronwyne’s lap — from aggressive to a loving loveable ball of fur.

  16. Uncle Eddie on Jul 20, 2013 at 12:13 pm

I am of the impression that this is what links an action of one’s life to its eventual result at some later time in the future, including animals. KARMA, the law of cause and effect, is what links a “good” action of what this dog could have done in its past lives, eventually to happen at this point of time to save its life. Karma is said to be the key to creating whatever future results that one may wish to have/experience – all beings, their experiences of happiness and suffering and the environments they live in are said to be created by Karma. Karma is said to be certain – in that, positive karma will certainly bring positive result of some form of happiness, and negative karma will result in some form of suffering. Therefore, a good understanding of karma is useful for us in our everyday life to gain the best advantage for both ourselves and others.

Oh…this is so touching, all animals deserved the same.

We must stop killing animals, abused them and treat them badly, animals are just like human, they deserved loves and care!

  18. Sharon Saw on Jul 18, 2013 at 2:02 pm

In the UK, they had this campaign saying “Puppies are not just for Christmas”. People look at cute puppies and think that they make a great gift for their child etc but this is so irresponsible. Children don’t know the training required for puppies and their parents probably don’t either. As a result, an untrained puppy will make messes, and create a lot of angst for the family. Usually if the family does not know how to deal with the dog, the dog will get abandoned and become like Edie – afraid and aggressive out of fear.

The only way to change things is for education – what kind of dogs to get for the family. Each breed of dog has its own indiosyncracies and it is important to know what they are before deciding to get the dog. Ironically, mongrels are very hardy and the easiest to look after, so please do look at adopting from a shelter as a first option! Usually, the caretakers at a shelter would be able to advise you which dog to adopt depending on your circumstances also, eg if you have an apartment or a house, young children or you’re single. etc.

A dog is for life 🙂

  19. tenzin llhamo on Jul 17, 2013 at 10:45 pm

I felt happy and sad at the same time for baby Edie.. She must have suffered a lot before being rescued hence “too aggressive” to be adopted. Cant blame her as she was just trying to defend herself. Underneath those fur, is a sad sight. But she was so cute after her grooming, I couldnt stop laughing.

Thank you everyone who saved Edie because you care and not look the other way. Because of that, 1 precious life is not wasted. I totally support adopting dogs from shelter instead of buying them from the pet shop. Lets all make a difference and give them a chance to be the loving dog they are.

  20. Beatrix Ooi on Jul 17, 2013 at 10:02 pm

This is truly very touching. It was very sad that she was unwanted and almost to be put to sleep. People are very irresponsible nowadays, they just buy their pets and after a while, they will abandoned them and leave them to die alone.
I like the ending, what she needed was just a hug, a hug has calmed her down. I’m very happy that she made it alive.
    Thank You for sharing Rinpoche.

Compassion is the foundation in Buddhism and it’s also the main’s point in the whole Lamrim Dharma text that was composed by Lama Atisha and Lama Tsongkhapa. We know that living with the compassion attitude and thought 24 hours a day is not easy but at least we should start to train our self to get familiar with it by being a thoughtful person. Animals and people around us provide us a vast amount of chance to put it into practice and this will not only benefit our self but also the living beings around us. Today after finished watching the teaching on Lamrim by Karmapa. I learnt that even thought enemies are also the one who gave us the precious chance to meditate on compassion, Karma, Samsara, death and also impermanence. How its work? When we looked more deeply we will find that the one who we view as an enemies also suffered because his or her on Buddha nature were covered by the five poisons and it only lead him or her finally to the three lower realms again and again without any ending. I seek for Rinpoche blessing so that I may be the one who only benefit others without any harmful thought and actions. May I and all sincere Dharma practitioners developed the firmed compassion and it will not decrease but only increase more and more and stable like a Vajra. May Guru Buddha blessing be always with them and filled them up with the nectar of compassion! With folded hands, Hecelus.

Thank you for the sharing Rinpoche. A very touching story about a dog named Edie. For us ,we always have the impression that ,when we see an animal growling at us means that the animal is violent and dangerous. In fact ,that animal could be putting on a display to hide its fear ,when being approach by an stranger.
Sometimes the animal could seance it,if we approach it with compassion and sincerity.
As for Edie, she we very fortunate to meet up with such a kind person to adopt her.Looking from the video, they could easily purchase a expensive young puppie .But they rather choose a pet that need to be saved and deserved to be given love that they were deprived.

This video is so touching, very happy to see little Edie, the cute Maltese was rescued and adopted by a man with so much compassion and love as she was placed in line to be euthanised by the animal shelter.Edie must have done something good in her previous life to be able to narrowly escape death this life. This is what happened here with Gizmo, rescued by our kind Kecharians, Ethan Chu, Elisa and Bryan if not for them Gizmo would have suffer the same fate like Edie because Gizmo’s owner didn’t want to take care of her anymore and she was rescued 2 days before she was supposed to be euthanised.Thank you Rinpoche for sharing and always remind us to love and take care of animals and also don’t harm them.

Sometimes, animals and humans only need a hug to be happy. When you have a mother who has more than one children, and none of the children visit. The only thing that will make the mother happy is for one of her children to hug her and love her.

Love is one of the most powerful driving forces in the world. Not lustful love but compassionate love. Treat all beings as your mother and love them.

  30. Joy on Mar 9, 2013 at 8:22 pm

It is very sad to see the overwhelming abuse, stray, abandoned animals all around in every city. If only we could find the right means and resources to help every single one of them and if we cannot, at least do not harm them.

I guess the most sickening stories is the one we hear where by pet owners abandoning their dogs or abusing them after they have found them an inconvenience to their lives and then just decides to chuck them in the shelters like some rubbish with no feelings towards them?

It is very touching to see that Eddie is being rescued by someone who cared, it must have been her good karma to have been spotted. Imagine how many millions out there who did not have any good karma and was not saved??? Probably hundreds of thousands. This is why whenever we can we should try to help these poor animals and one way is to stop getting pets from the beautiful luxurious pet stores by go adopt one at the shelter. You may never know, you might just be saving a life who like Eddie, who only wanted a hug. Note that even though Eddie had probably been through a traumatic experience with humans, she is so affectionate and forgiving once she realises she is not going to be harmed. How many humans would actually be able to trust and let go this easily?

Oh my god…i’m so happy that Edie got saved and adopted. He did not deserve to be in the animal shelter in the first place. And i think that if the animal shelters purpose is to help and save animals, they should provide for them. Not just kill them if there is not enough room.

Since they started the idea of opening an animals shelter, they should be filling to take it all the way with consistancy. Which is what i am going to do with our Facebook fan page will be out soon. Thank you for sharing Rinpoche.

  34. David Lai on Oct 11, 2012 at 6:19 pm

This video is so touching and it shows a canine survivor of the animal shelter. It is really sad that there’s so many strays and not enough homes for these poor dogs. Over here in Malaysia, the situation is even worse off because awareness for animals is simply not in the mass consciousness of the people yet. Hence, animal shelters are poorly equipped and funded. Kechara has been trying for years to raise funds for an animal shelter but big time sponsors are hard to come by.

  35. joey wong on Sep 13, 2012 at 2:18 am

It’s amazing what a hug can do to an animal…sometimes i feel that some of the nastiest people in my life would be good people if they were given love or a hug. Sometimes, a little bit of love can make a huge difference in someone’s life, be it human or not and this post exemplifies that.

  36. wah ying on Aug 26, 2012 at 12:52 am

“Always go the extra mile to save a life just like what these animal rescuers did. Life is so precious…”

What I learn the story is, only when we treat all life, including animals’ life are as precious ours, we will try harder, to make a greater effort than we should.

A visit to the shelter, a call, a sms etc to care for a person, an animal might seems to be a small effort but make a big different for someone – it saves a life and beyond.

Thank you Rinpoche for the post, I love it and will make it a reminder for me to treasure every single life, and to make extra effort for others.

So relieved and joyful to see “Edie” an adorable maltese, saved from being euthanised and given a new lease of life, though she had gone through so much harrowing sufferings and phenomenum. All that was needed to tame edie’s agressiveness was just a hug and a few gentle strokes of friendliness for love and compassion to solicit her willingness to calm down her-already tensionabled and frightened nerves! Nevertheless, everything went well at the end and a life was saved irrespective. Life is so precious like our Rinpoche said, and animals can help us to become better human beings at times, by allowing them to live happily with us side by side.

Edie’s aggressive action in trying to protect himself helplessly could relate to how he was being ill treated. Thanks Bronwyne for his kind heart in saving this adorable dog. He and every one of us definitely deserves a 2nd chance.

  47. Milly on Jul 14, 2012 at 12:36 pm

Edie was lucky to be rescued in time. But there are many more out there having to die mercilessly. Pet owners need to be educated to be more responsible and kind not to abandon their pets after the novelty wears off. Yes, we should adopt from shelter homes rather than pet shops. Pet shops exist just for profits. Not many of the pet shops owners are in this business because they are animal lovers. Everyone including animals needs a loving hug and kindness. May KAS manifest soon so that we can also play our part in rescuing those poor animals.

  48. Albert Ratchaga on Jul 14, 2012 at 12:49 am

The aggressiveness they mentioned is because she has been treated very badly and create huge fear in her, she is just trying to avoid being hurt again, look at her eyes, it is so heart breaking to see he suffers so much… But thank goodness, she is adopted, she is rescued, there is so much love shown in this video, action speak the loudest word.

This is so true, sometime what we need is just a hug, a hug that can calm the mind, that can heal a soul, this is not something that is impossible, but it is only one more step to show our love, just that one more step we can save so many lives, are we doing it?

When we keep on talking about compassion, love, etc, etc… but how many people are doing it? are we doing it just for show or it actually comes from our heart.

When we give love to the animal, care for them, be good to them, they can’t say thank you to us, but they will be our loyal friend, a friend who will never leave us no matter what, we called ourselves human, because human can think then only act, but in reality, we acted like an animal…

I remembered she posted on FB with regards Gastor’s status, she amazingly done the best for Gastor.
Paris wrote on her comments :”Within just one week of visiting him, he went from a timid, frightened little pup, to one that would sit up in his cage and wag his tail and come out to greet us whenever he saw our car pull up in front of the gate. He’s now totally recovered and an extremely healthy, vivacious dog. A little really does go a tremendously long way.”
I feel the love and care from Paris towards Gastor, a genuine love that touched!

This is such a wonderful and heart-warming video. At the beginning of the video we see aggression from Edie because she was very scared and lived in daily anticipation of death at the pound. What she must have gone through before that would have been nightmarish. Fear brings out the monster in everything being, including us.

Edie went from a dog that nobody wanted to a beautiful pet that a lot of people would have wanted to take home. The difference is a few minutes of true kindness and love shown by the man who was very kind to her. I was so touched to see how quickly Edie melted into his embrace and next thing we see a very different dog. Wasn’t it Tsem Rinpoche who wrote that compassions conquers all? This is proof as if we need anymore.

Everything and everyone needs love and when we give it, we ourselves heal from our own trauma. So the act of being kind to animals and rescuing them is not only noble but it is also one of the best ways to nurture the kindness in us.

I am so happy for Edie and in the second video we see Edie being trained. What a beautiful and obedient friend Edie has become. I wonder how many more beautiful animals could have been rescued, and with a little bit of love, become the best friend a person could have.

A big thank you to all those beautiful people who rescued Edie and turned her life around.

To those who doesn’t believe animals have feelings too, i urge them to watch these 2 videos. It is very sad to see Edie is so scared until she can’t even bark to protect herself…

But Edie is a very lucky girl. Every sentient beings deserve love. See how sweet and happy Edie is. Don’t we feel happy too when we see others are happy? 🙂

  52. jennifer on Jul 12, 2012 at 5:14 pm

I am so happy that Edie is saved, adopted and well loved. It broke my heart when i saw the first footage of the video but towards the end of the whole both videos, i’m so glad that he has a good and loving home.

Animals do not turn aggressive for no reason, only when they feel their lives are threatened. Animals do not kill except for food or survival. Only man kills out of greed, anger, or for whatever negative emotions they have. And man claims to be the most civilized and evolved specie in this Earth. If this is so, then it should be Man’s responsibility to care and love these animals. We have the good karma to be humans, so why don’t we initiate more good karma to help and care for these animals and other fellow humans.

All my furry babies are rescued , from the streets , from unscrupulous pet shops and breeders. Over the past few years, Rinpoche has rescued many many dogs from pet shops and i have the good fortune and blessings to have 2 of these rescued puppies. The first one is a Mini Schnauzer Jamyang who had been in a tiny cage for many many months and Rinpoche rescued him and gave him to me. Jamyang had tick fever and was very ill. We took him to the vet every week for blood tests and injections and after 6 months, he was fully recovered and is now a healthy wonderful active little guy. He could have easily died if he had not been rescued by Rinpoche just in time.
The next puppy that Rinpoche gave me is a tiny tiny little white Mini Schnauzer Gonkar. Gonkar was close to being starved to death in the pet shop when Rinpoche came across him. Little baby Gonkar was two and a half month old and only weighed 1 kg. ( At that age , he should weigh 2.5 kg). He was literally skin and bones when Rinpoche rescued him, and i’m sure he would have died in the next 24 hours if left in the pet shop.Gonkar was very weak and sickly for the first year of his life but now he’s absolutely gorgeous and healthy. Thank you Rinpoche for saving Jamyang and Gonkar , and thank you for giving me the opportunity to love and care for them.

There are so many animals that desperately need good and loving homes, animals that are in the shelters , on the street. Animals like Edie, who only need a second chance. They don’t have a voice but they have a tremendous amount of love to share. They have feelings too !

  53. Cindy on Jul 12, 2012 at 4:26 pm

I hope people out there can think before they want to own pets. Not because they see their friends own one, they also want to get one. If u really loves pets & have the time to care for them only then u can own one. If not later abandon them. This is very cruel of you. It is too bad that I can’t have one ’cause I’ve a reason for it.

  54. Li Kheng on Jul 12, 2012 at 2:40 pm

A glaring illustration of the power of loving kindness. As we pursue secular success in the 21st century, we forget the basic need of our soul which is to give and receive love. Love can truly melt the wall we build in effort to protect ourselves but, eventually, causes us to loose ourselves. This story teaches me the need to reach out and give kindness especially to those who lack it. This story also reminds me to put myself in the other party’s shoes to understand the possible cause of a particular condition or reaction instead of jumping to judgmental and harsh conclusions.

Thank Buddha that Edie was saved and may more beings be saved by kindness.

  55. patsy on Jul 12, 2012 at 12:37 pm

It’s so wonderful to see that Eddie was rescued and saved from being put to sleep. From an aggressive and scared dog, Eddie is now able to receive love and care.

It’s so sad that people take pet as a plaything. Due to irresponsibility of pet owners, when they are tired of their pets or when their pet is too old or sick they will be dumped them in shelter homes. Shelter homes are overwhelmed with strayed and abandoned animals and they have no choice but to euthanize the animals due to lack of space and funds. People must be educated that if they want to have a pet, they should adopt one from the shelter homes and the money from the adoption can be used to maintain the shelter home instead of spending a large amount of money to buy from pet shops.

  56. Sheryl KH (JB) on Jul 12, 2012 at 1:48 am

Cannot imagine having to euthanise a dog/cat. Somehow I believe that animals have great six sense and perhaps that is the reason why Edie got so aggressive.

She may have felt that her death was near and she just wanted to protect herself, save herself from death even though it may just be a slim chance.

All dogs can be sweet, and they dont need a lot. What they need is care and they will be very happy to be next to you for their entire lives.

  57. MayOng on Jul 11, 2012 at 10:29 pm

Little did we know that this dog rescued from the shelter was such an adorable cute loving pet. I like this video. Lesson learned here is a rescued animal may appear aggressive initially but with much loving care and kindness, they do change for the better.

The same can be applied to any beings. If we show them love and care, they may change from being aggressive to loving beings.

  58. Chris Tan on Jul 11, 2012 at 10:01 pm

I love this video a lot. I like to see after she adopted and been treated well and also send her to school.
I came across with these with my 2 schnauzers, one i found (Drolma) from street and another one (Gigi) adopt from pet shop cos she has been abandoned by her owner. At first when we trying to close to Gigi especially when close to her head. she will try to attack us and bite us. I believe that she has been mistreat and beat by her previous master a lot.

Few months later, we constantly give her love, recite mantra around her ear, talk to her and treat her well. Exactly like what we see like Edie, getting become gentle and adorable. Every time when i came home, she will show her passion with Drolma and welcome us home. Hehe… I love them a lot.

Animal very like our attention with them, and they also longing people will love them. For people who has pet, please treat them well, dun treat them like your toy . Remember they are being, just like you and me, we need love and they also need love.

  59. James Long on Jul 11, 2012 at 8:47 pm

I can’t stop my tears watching these 2 videos. Edie must had experienced a lots of pain before to have that reaction towards people, but a care can change the situation. When our baby Gigi brought back home by Chris, Gigi was exactly like Edie, even when we want to go close to her, she would bark or bit our hands. It us few weeks for Gigi to calm down and be close to us. Right now every night she goes to the bed and share the pillow with me.

Animals are our angels and they train us to be patient and love.

  60. Ethan Chu on Jul 11, 2012 at 8:46 pm

Even us humans are looking for love. All we need is love, romance movie always a sell out, relationship books usually a sell out, people longing for love, and love songs always topped No.1 on the chart! But we normally just overlook these smaller creatures, how they are born in a state that can not express themselves and yet we create so much suffering for them simply because we have the power to.

I was never an animal person, yes they are cute and all but one day when i saw a news about a dog being take down in 2 days time, i decided to take the dog in. Gizmo is his name, and guess what, i might not know how to be the best host but Gizmo was abandoned for years, now at least I can give him what I have, love and care and most of all a home. He couldn’t be happier. I am glad that i did that. and i hope people will do the same for these little lives.

    • DR on Jul 12, 2012 at 11:22 am

Yes Ethan, thank you to you, Elisa and Bryan for saving Gizmo. He was to be euthanized three days before you all saved him. Each time I think of Gizmo, a scary thought comes into my mind of what would have happened to him had you all not rescued him. He has such an endearing personality and it is hard to believe that he was also another case of abuse.

As what Beng Kooi wrote about the causes of animal dumping, I think animal shelters should make pet responsibility education a strong part of their program.

  61. Karen C. on Jul 11, 2012 at 8:37 pm

It’s so heartbreaking to hear the wailing and whining of Edie! This clearly shows the sign of trauma in Edie’s past, and when the man with the leash went near Edie, Edie was extremely scared, cowered and started to cry. It seems the mistreatment in the past has damaged the trust bond between Edie and man. Please, if you cannot commit your time and give love to animals, do not get a pet just for fun or companionship, because once the relationship is built, it goes two ways. Animals can be our loyal friend who will always be there for us, all they ask from us is just care and love, treat them equally like our own child. Betrayal is the most awful thing we could do to animals, so do we human beings, we hate betrayals.

    Dear Rinpoche,

This association “Hope For Paws” is amazing. I have see most of the guy’s video. He sometime drive for hours to try to rescue a dog from the street. I still remember this little female living in the desert and it took him several days to “capture’ her to rescue her. At the end she was very happy with her new mom… What he’s doing is just so right and courageous!

Talking about Animal Rescue Rinpoche; I would like to tell you about a very good French Association I am taking part through Internet. It is called “ACTU ANIMAUX” and it is a website that use a clever system. You have to click up to 5 times on one (or all) of the animal files and it generates advertising that sponsors the association. They have saved hundreds and hundreds of animals (all kind) throughout the years. I invite you and all your students to visit their website and to click everyday.

I do it every morning and am delighted to see the animals saved, receiving vet care; placed in a foster family meanwhile and then adopted.

I found this system very clever and thought right away it would be very used for your animal sanctuary and rescue! So you can see if it interest you. I am sure one can create a similar system. But please, consider to click for them every day or just if you have time; it just takes 3 minutes and you could bless them at the same time; so they all connect to the Refuge in next lives 🙂 I do wished for them as I click for them.

Here is the link to the website : http://actuanimaux.com/

I wish you a beautiful day, thank you for this inspiring video!

    • Aurora on Jul 11, 2012 at 7:01 pm

The website is in French but Google (on Google Chrome) will propose
to translate it for you. They save animals from slaughter houses and take the one the more desperate and in need of medical care; the one close to be killed in shelter and any other one that need help. They work with several association in France; Spain and Dom Toms (French Islands like Martinique and others) and help also other associations. They helped an association to save 200 dogs and cat; as the association did not have any mo,ey to feed them; they did a subject and file about them and we could raise the money though the clicks and donations. what they are doing is amazing they deserve our support, and I would be very happy if even one more person help to click or make donation to help those lovely babies!

  63. Julia Tan on Jul 11, 2012 at 6:43 pm

The only reason that Edie is “too aggressively to be adapted” is that she is too scared on people.  Maybe she has bad experiences or nightmares such as getting beat up, getting abandoned from her previous owner, or getting starved without any food from her previous owner.  However, I always believe dogs have extraordinary senses.  For example, they can sense spirits. So, if Edie can feel a person who can give her safety and secured, she will calm down and be a nice cute dog with no anger.  To all the pet owners, please treat your pets nicely and with responsibility.

So lucky Edie found her new home. This is a very touching true story but unfortunately there are still many dogs out there who are not as lucky as Edie.If anyone is looking for a new pet please consider adopting.Animals can not express themselves like humans can….so please give them a warm and loving home…..

After you watching this , what on your mind? Everyone will like to have a puppy , it is so cute when they’re young, but it will grown! Can you promise me, you’re forever young?

If not , why some people are so easy to throw away their PET?

  67. Doreen Teoh on Jul 11, 2012 at 4:14 pm

In the beginning, I feel that Edie is so sacred…It is a trauma caused by human. She is aggressive as to protect herself only, never meant to harm. It is so heartwarming to know that she finally has found her faith in the lady who adopted her. She is so cheerful and happy. Rejoice.

  68. HelenaC on Jul 11, 2012 at 3:45 pm

This video is heart warming and heart breaking at the same time. Knowing Edie is ok and in great care now. I am so happy 🙂 All beings deserve well treatment. Do not harm others and be kind always. Thanks for the post Rinpoche.

I have an uncle who is a dog breeder that breeds for the sake of money. I definitely believe that this video will make him to reconsider the negative side of his business. I don’t know much about the situation about adopting and buying pets in Malaysia or any other countries. I knew that in Taiwan people buy pets as gift during x’mas and these “gifts” normally won’t last for more than 3 months before it became stray or being sent to shelter waiting to be euthanized. As much as some shelters people claimed to like to keep these animals alive, they have limited space and resources to do so. The most “cost-effective” solution, hence euthanasia. This is no way the solution and dog breeders as well as consumers have to be educated on the results and effects of their actions.

  70. Judy Lam on Jul 11, 2012 at 3:30 pm

Like Wendy, I love watching Dog Whisperer Caesar Millan too! It is amazing how he trains the owner to firstly observe their pet dogs and how to discipline them. It is my personal opinion that having a pet is liken to start a family – if we are not ready to give the well-deserved love to our pets, it is better not to have one and later on abandon them. It is cruel.
Like human beings, what Edie has gone through must be harrowing so much so that he turned aggressive as self-defence. We can see what kindness can do to a dog like Edie. Just a hug and touches softens Edie and he is such a beauty now. Kudos to the owner who has given this dog a new lease of life!

  71. Li Kim on Jul 11, 2012 at 3:29 pm

Kindness and compassion are natural virtues we all have but they do not seem to shine but instead gets suppressed by daily “evils” of living. Look how sweet Edie shows aggression which is obviously not a natural state as the video progresses to show. Edie is in fact a sweet and loving dog, just look at the eyes. But the living conditions gave no choice but to develop and show aggression. This is the same with people. So, seriously, we should all show kindness and compassion to all and really make a difference to making this world we live in with less anger and aggression.

  72. Rita van der Wijden on Jul 11, 2012 at 3:18 pm

    Just loved it!

  73. Paris on Jul 11, 2012 at 3:03 pm

what an incredible video, thank you.
This reminds me of an animal rescue that Rinpoche had done with some students, for a little poodle called Dzamser. He had been in the pet shop for so long that he was starting to go slightly crazy. He just ran circles incessantly around his little cage, 40 – 50 rotations a minute. Poor thing was very visibly affected from being so enclosed for such a long period.

Pastor Susan took him out of the cage and held him, gave him a hug and held him close. He calmed down IMMEDIATELY and stopped moving so much. All he needed was a hug too. Dzamser now lives with Pastor Susan and is a hyper, active, well loved little dog that isn’t afraid of people.

A little really goes a long way and videos like this prove that animals want all the same things that we do too – love, affection, protection. If you speak to any dog trainers or owners, they will assure you that a dog will never be aggressive or attack anyone unless they are being provoked, as defense or out of fear. So if a dog is being aggressive to us, it’s about what WE ugly humans have done to them.

The thing is too that animals ask for so much less than humans. Edie and Dzamser only needed a hug. When I first rescued my pooch, Gastor, I literally couldn’t even hug him because he was so highly infectious with skin diseases, scabies and mange. We were not even allowed to touch him without extensive protection and gloves. But we took him off the street, kept him in a friend’s vacant house (yes, he couldn’t even be near any living beings because he was that contagious), and went twice a day to feed and water him, clean his cage and let him out for a short walk. Within just one week of visiting him, he went from a timid, frightened little pup, to one that would sit up in his cage and wag his tail and come out to greet us whenever he saw our car pull up in front of the gate. He’s now totally recovered and an extremely healthy, vivacious dog. A little really does go a tremendously long way.

  74. Llim Han Nee on Jul 11, 2012 at 2:58 pm

Wonderful to know that Eddie was saved.

It’s sad that some animal shelters resort to euthanizing the animals just because they have no room for them. It’s also sad that people treat pets as playthings. When they tire of them they just dispose of them to pet shops again not caring what is being done to these ex-pets afterwards.

Animals don’t ask for much, just a little love from us.

Thank you, Rinpoche, for this post which reminds us that we need to always show care for these furry beings .

  75. Wendy Loh on Jul 11, 2012 at 2:24 pm

Animals are amazingly loving and loyal, dogs especially. Edie is so sweet. I am always touched by how the Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan communicates with dogs of all shapes, sizes and breed by feeling and sensing their energies. He doesn’t train dogs for they are fine the way they are. He says that he “trains humans” so that they understand their canines. This is his website and if you have been following his show on Nat Geo Wild, you will know what I mean. _/\_

    http://www.cesarsway.com/

  76. JP on Jul 11, 2012 at 2:12 pm

This is so remarkable. All the dog needed was literally a hug. When people abuse animals badly, thinking they don’t have feelings, I totally disagree. This video is clear evidence that animals do have feelings just like humans.

I believe that showing compassion and love to another living being no matter how aggressive they are will calm them down. All of us want to be loved and have a sense of security. We need to start giving love to others especially living beings who are neglected and or abused. They deserve to live as well.

  77. bengkooi on Jul 11, 2012 at 2:00 pm

So pleased to see that Edie made it! Its true that so many animal shelters start out with the best intentions but sheer overpopulation and disease epidemics make it very difficult for them to save each and every animal that crosses their path. Every day, unwanted animals are dumped at the front gates of animal shelters, with little thought as to how the shelter is going to feed, care and house them. Yet, when animal shelters have no choice but to put the animals down, the outcry from the public brands them as monsters.

SO WHAT ARE WE, THE PUBLIC, doing about it? Do we know where these animals come from?

    These animals are:
    – unwanted pets bought on a whim
    – dumped from pet stores when their cute puppies and kittens grow too old for sale
    – strays from the street, which started as unwanted pets dumped from homes
    – offspring of strays

Look at the above, and realise that the problem is caused by ourselves…

So yes, dont buy, please adopt. You can save a life and help solve the problem.

  78. sockwan on Jul 11, 2012 at 12:24 pm

Compassion conquers all. Edie was so scared in the beginning but the rescuer treated her with care and love, and Edie could feel it. She was immediately pacified and was not aggressive anymore.

With love and care, we can make positive changes. I am so happy that Edie was saved.

My lovely colleagues Ethan, Bryan and Jean Mei also adopted a very old dog called Gizmo who was going to be put down. They have given Gizmo a very warm and loving new family. Gizmo might be old but he is definitely a happy dog.

Venerable Ajahn Chah was a Thai Buddhist teacher of the Buddhadhamma and a founder of two major monasteries in the Thai Forest Tradition. Well respected and loved as a man of great wisdom, he was also instrumental in establishing Theravada Buddhism in the West. Interesting life story, how he chose to leave the settled monastic life and became a wandering ascetic. Walking across Thailand, lived in forests, caves and cremation grounds while learning from the meditation monks of the Forest of various monasteries. He wandered through the countryside in quest of quiet and secluded places for developing meditation. He even lived in tiger and cobra infested jungles, using reflections on death to penetrate to the true meaning of life. After years of wandering, Venerable Ajahn Chah established a monastery where he taught simple, practice-based form of meditation, and attracted a numerous of students including western foreigners. He was one of the greatest Dhamma teachers of the modern era. His wise teachings have continued to guide thousands of people along the path of Dharma. Venerable Ajahn Chah’s teachings of the Thai Forest Tradition gradually spread across all over the world. Several of Ajahn Chah’s Western students have since established monasteries throughout the world. Just in Thailand itself, there are more than 300 branch monasteries in Ajahn Chah’s tradition. Ven erable Ajahn Chah used his ill health as a teaching point, emphasizing that it was a living example of the impermanence of all things and reminded people to endeavour to find a true refuge within themselves. The legacy of Venerable Ajahn Chah’s teachings and legacy continues into the modern age.
Thank you Rinpoche for this great sharing.

Wonderful blog written on the practice of Kalarupa for us to understand better. As an emanation of Manjushri, Kalarupa’s practice helps us to destroy ignorance and to develop wisdom overcoming our anger and suffering . Awesome Kalarupa manifested in multiple forms to help sentient beings who personifies enlightenment by the conquest of anger. Kalarupa also regard as one of the three main Dharma protectors of the Gelugpa is extremely fierce and ugly, and tames all kinds of spiritual ugliness. The fierceness of his iconography teaches us to remind ourselves that all the causes and effects of anger arising from ignorance are dreadful and distorted.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor Antionette for this detailed sharing,

Nepal is a very spiritual country, having a huge Dorje Shugden mural in Kathmandu, is indeed a big achievement for Kechara. Located on Charkhal Road in Dilli Bazaar, the mural can be found midway between our two Dorje Shugden chapels which are in Putalisadak and Chabahil. It is also very close to one of Kathmandu’s largest shopping malls. Many locals , tourist will be able to connect them to a powerful deity that is so closely associated with their culture. Well the mural not only beautiful but also full of symbolism and everyone merely by seeing it is blessed. Thanks to those talented artists and generous sponsors making it a success.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on. Letting go helps us to live in a more peaceful state of mind and helps restore our balance. A reminder for us all to go of attachment and meditating on impermanence and emptiness. We are to relinquish the domination of our ego and its habits to transform ourselves. A great reminder not to waste our previous life.
Quoted Ceasing to do evil, Cultivating the good, Purifying the heart .
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing such a meaningful teachings with folded hands.

Winning the lottery was part of my dreams, I tried so hard to win big but all to no avail, until I came across Dr Lucas online who made my dreams come through and made me win 10 million dollars. I was a logistics manager who lives in Lancaster, S.C. and works about an hour’s drive away, in Charlotte, N.C., I stopped at a store to buy a scratch-off lottery ticket during my lunch break, because Dr Lucas gave me all the assurance that the numbers are not going to fail after I did all he asked me to do. Dr lucas is a powerful Dr that is on a mission to eradicate poverty from people’s lives and i have confirmed that by winning $10 million with the numbers he provided for me, it is my promise to tell the world about my experience with Dr Lucas and that’s what I’m doing now, you can win the lottery fast with the help of Dr Lucas he is tested and trusted Email: Drlucasspelltemple@gmail. com or WhatsApp +234 904 794 3567 he will help you.

We are members of the Buddhist Temple in Taman Desa Jaya, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur and we have been issued membership by the president (DATUK YIP KUM FOOK), we are very sad because we are the foundation of this Temple

Now we can know who is always messing with people, and he always cheats money and women, he even uses Buddhism to find money.

Also, need to be careful with his brother-in-law (Simon Low Kok Meng) because he is a spy (CID) for DATUK YIP KUM FOOK and we will write some letters to AGONG SULTAN IBRAHIM IBN ALMARHUM SULTAN ISKANDAR as soon as possible.

The matriarchal cultures of the grandmothers have specific symbolism of animism shamanism, such as the horse, especially the blue horse, and the deer. These are two main symbols of a shaman woman and you can find them in many cultural folk lore, especially the Russian, Slavic, Siberian, Nordic, Finland, and Norway. It’s nice to see the Matriarchal Shaman Animism diety represented in Chinese.

An inspiring act of a selfless Lama feeding strays whether its night or day. Truly an example for us all to feed those lonely strays . Yes I do agree compassion starts with feeding strays. Reading this blog again to refresh myself to do more. Strays animals generally lead a life of poor welfare on the street. Feeding strays is a compassionate act.
Thank you Rinpoche and Anila for this sharing.

H E Tsem Rinpoche’s Sungbum project aim to preserve the teachings and practices that have been passed from teacher to disciple in an unbroken line beginning with Lama Tsongkhapa himself . History has taught us the importance of preserving Buddha’s stainless teachings. Its important to preserve and safeguard the Buddhist tradition for future generations.
Tsem Rinpoche is a clear and effective teacher where his stories and teachings are endlessly entertaining and inspiring. The preservation is very much needed. We are so fortunate given a chance to be involved in such a meritorious project .

Demons are disembodied spirits, supernatural being or spirit and unseen beings. We know they do exist and I believe they do. They have no physical form to them whatsoever. Demons do definitely exist. They are intelligent beings who are evil malicious spirits and are all dangerous entities. Valak is not to be summoned capriciously by anyone as they are dangerous beings when we invoke them having to face a heavy consequence. There are spiritual practices that we can ask for help a ritual of the wrathful Manjushri in the form of Trakze. Having a doing the practice daily without fail, consistently, as this Trakze practice has been proven to be efficacious to break the hold the Valak and other spirits. All thanks to our Guru bringing this practice to Kechara Forest Retreat, Bentong Malaysia.
Thank you Rinpoche for this wonderful sharing for us to understand better.

Wow ,reading all these powerful quotes had me realised much better of giving even I have little. May H E Tsem Rinpoche’s sincere advice to reach the far shore of liberation to everyone reading this blog. The most truly generous people are those who give silently without asking any in return. There is no exercise better than reaching and lifting people up. A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal. Well creating and lighting for others we naturally light our own way. Helping others especially those unfortunate ones, make us feel more positive about our own circumstances.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing all these powerful quotes.

Lama Tsongkhapa was an influential Tibetan Buddhist monk, philosopher and tantric yogi, whose activities led to the formation of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism . Lama Tsongkhapa was hailed as the second Buddha by contemporary Buddhist masters of his time. Famous for reviving Buddhism in Tibet and revered for elevating the Dharma to all its present glory. Hence having a 12 ft Lama Tsongkhapa Statue at new Kechara Gompa (Prayer Hall) is indeed a blessing. Its truly beautiful. Merely by looking at it is a blessing .
Thank you Rinpoche and team effort making it possible.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer

Dharma sharing by Hue before we proceeded with DS puja & Rinpoche Swift Return puja. Hue is one of the long time Kechara Penang members and he comes to puja regularly. He shared that he truly believes that Dorje Shugden and Rinpoche always there guiding him. He shared how sometimes DS will give him hints to avert troubles ahead or to alert him when he 'misbehaved'. Hope many will come to know more about this powerful Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugden aka DS. Having Dorje Shugden is like having a powerful ally that will protect us day and night.
