YB Dato’ Sri Dr Liow Tiong Lai’s visit to KFR
Last week, Dato’ Ruby Khong (President of Kechara Soup Kitchen) invited YB Dato’ Sri Dr Liow Tiong Lai to visit Kechara Forest Retreat (KFR). Dato’ Sri is a nutritionist by profession, and has been Malaysian’s Health Minister for the past 4 years. As our Health Minister, I was glad to hear that Dato’ Seri himself is a vegetarian… he seems like a man who walks the talk. Being vegetarian is the best thing that you can do for your body, it is a natural preventive method towards diseases.
At around 2 pm, Dato’ Sri arrived at KFR together with YB Dato’ Hoh Khai Mun (Chairman of Local Government, Environment and Health Affairs of Pahang State Exco), Mr Leong Kim Soon (Political Secretary to the Health Minister) and a few other people from his office. Dato’ Ruby then gave a tour of our temporary abode, which included our mini Vegetarian Hall, the KFR team cabins, my cabin area, guest cabin area, the meeting areas etc etc. The KFR team called the placed, “Temporary Abode” because it really is temporary! We needed a place to stay, give volunteers a place to rest and to hold meetings whilst Kechara Village (Phase 1 of KFR) is being built. The space has really served us well so far…
JP Thong, Datuk May and Dato’ Ruby then went through the plans of KFR with YB Dato’ Sri Dr Liow Tiong Lai, Mr Leong Kim Soon and Dato’ Hoh Khai Mun. The vegetarian lunch was catered by Kechara Oasis (KO)…
They then went to the top of Ladrang Hill to take an overview look of the land. The view from there is really great.
I heard from the liaisons that Dato’ Sri really likes many of our ideas… like the aviary for children to learn more about birds, the vegetarian restaurant, a place for people to relax in the middle of the forest, a place where the youth can volunteer their time towards good and virtues activities etc etc. We are honoured for the visit and we thank our Health Minister for taking time out from his busy schedule to visit us and our project Kechara Forest Retreat. It was really kind of him to visit. We all appreciated the visit very much. Thank you very much YB Dato’ Sri Dr Liow Tiong Lai.
Have you been to KFR yet?? You must visit.

How nice that the Health Minister of Malaysia visited us at Kechara Forest Retreat!
He even took a group photo with our hardworking Kecharians. In the future, this picture is important as it is a historical piece in our museum to show how we started and who started with us!

Now after few years, KFR first phased have completed and so glad that a lot of people from round the world came here for various activities. May KFR continue to grow and bless more people.

Well done Dato Ruby for arranging Dato Seri Liow visit to KFR. With kind support from our Health Minister who is also a vegetarian, this will definitely raise awareness and popularity of KFR. KFR being a place of healing, healthy living and healthy eating, it is a much needed place among the stress of today’s materialistic and capitalist world.
To be honest, I’m not very in tune with Malaysian politics. Meeting Dato’ Seri Liow Tiong Lai was the very first Malaysian government official that I’ve met. I must say that I was really surprised that he’s funny, easy-going and involved. Involved in the sense that he would ask to know and to learn. There’s a very progressive feeling about him.
I was really happy to know that our Malaysian Health Minister is a vegetarian. I mean, all we need is a KFC loving health minister to lead our country by example!
It’s a real honour to have Dato’ Seri involved in Kechara Forest Retreat. It’ll be a real healthy, long-lasting, beneficial relationship between the two 🙂
I was pleasantly surprised by how warm Datuk Seri was. I heard that he is very much loved in Bentong because he really does work for his constituents, and that’s exactly the feeling I got when I met him. He was engaged and interested throughout the trip, and showed he is familiar with the locality. I’m glad KFR is in his area because it will be a place that teaches people how to be happy and care for welfare of Malaysians as much as Datuk Seri does.
Whoops, I meant Dato Seri!
Also, I wanted to share an anecdote…Dato Seri was having lunch and he invited my sister to join them. She said, “Oh no Dato Seri, please go ahead, I’ll get something to eat later, maybe some McDonald’s.” He said, “You young people shouldn’t eat McDonald’s, it’s really unhealthy for you!” Not surprising that the Health Minister would say that hehehe and no wonder there’s no McDonald’s in Bentong!
It is nice to know they even somebody so famous like Dato’ Seri Liow Tiong Lai coming to learn more about both Kechara and Kechara Forest Retreat. We should get more of this people as it is not only gets more sponsors as well as attention so that people a more aware of what we are doing.
I am glad to hear that even the Malaysian Health Minister is vegetarian.
I was there when Dato Seri Liow came to KFR for a visit. It was an honor to have a VIP visit despite his busy schedule! But I am sure that there will be many coming in the future too!
Dato Seri is indeed a very nice and warm person. When he arrived, he was smiling and very polite. He even shook everyone’s hand. Thank you everyone fo making it such memorable event!
“A minister of the people, for the people and by the people”, indeed! Always everready to render aid or service to the people for a good course. Perhaps Dato’ Sri is aware that all major religious traditions of the World have the potential to contribute to the benefit and well-being of Humanity in respect of unity, peace and Human Harmony. Religious traditions are said not only to have that potential, but also a great responsibility to make contributions in that direction. Nevertheless, heart-felt thanks to Dato’ Sri Low and his high level entourage group for this respective honour to Kechara House, to take their special invaluable time-off for such a meritorious visit to KFR. May they all be well-blessed!
Great to see Datuk Seri visiting KFR. It truly is very nice to see many people, even influential people, following the progress of KFR. Thank you for sharing these photos with us, Rinpoche.
It is indeed an honour that amidst his busy schedule, the Health Minister Dato Seri Liow Tiong Lai makes time to visit KFR and that he also like many of our ideas. Kechara Forest Retreat is where we can heal our body and mind, a place where we can relax and be with nature. As a Health Minister and a nutritionist, Dato Seri would know the importance of healthy living and here in KFR we will have organic farming and a vegetarian restaurant, healthy and holistic activities where people from all walks of live can visit.
Although I wasn’t there, I can see from the video and pictures that the Health Minister’s visit was a success. I congratulate Dato’ Ruby for arranging this visit because it is very important to create awareness of the Kechara Forest Retreat among Government ministers and high officials. Through the publicity, more and more people will come to know of KFR and will benefit from the future activities to be held there.
It is indeed a great honour to have our Health Minister and his entourage, Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai visit KFR. KFR is a proud home grown retreat centre for peace and tranquillity. For Malayisians as well as anyone who wishes to seek some solace and reconnect back with nature and their spiritual self.
These pictures are really nice and we can see from the pictures that Dato’ Sri took time in seeing every single part of KFR as he was led by Dato’ Ruby, Datuk May and JP Thong. Congratulations KFR team for showing your warm big hearted hospitality… next who knows, maybe it’ll be to our Prime Minister hehehe.
Wonderful photos! What great news to hear of our own government ministers coming to spend a Sunday with Kechara. It is after all, our hope that KFR will be a place that many Malaysians and tourists will come to spend their weekends and holidays (a nice change the Malaysian “temples” of malls and cinemas!). I’m so glad to hear that Dato’ Liow liked the ongoing works at the land – as a health minister, this is especially great feedback for it aligns to Rinpoche’s own vision of being able to give back to the community and country by creating a healthy, safe, relaxing space for everyone to be able to connect not just with nature but with their own inner spirit of healing, learning and transformation.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing these wonderful news and photos.I am glad to knew that Dato Seri Liow Tiong Lai is visited to KFR.I wish that more and more peoples like Dato Seri Liow Tiong Lai can visit and support KFR to make KFR success !!
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing these photos and video with us, and thanks Dato’ Seri Liow Tiong Lai for paying a visit to our KFR.
As a minister, I’m sure Dato’ Seri Liow must be very concerned about the future of our country and our younger generation. To make a multi-racial country like Malaysia an ideal place to live in and a peaceful country where foreign investors are willing to invest their money in, the key element is harmony and this can be achieved by instilling the right value to our people. This is exactly what we want to do in KFR: “we will give back to society through educational programmes for the young and the old, by instilling universal values such as patience, acceptance, kindness and compassion.”
I am glad to know that Dato’ Seri like many of our ideas. I do hope that our government will give us more support on this project so that in future we will be able to contribute more to our society.
Thank you for sharing the photos of this momentous visit by the Health Minister and his entourage. It is indeed very kind of Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai to visit KFR, though as the Health Minister, it makes perfect sense for him to visit as Rinpoche’s vision for KFR is to be a place of healing – for the mind, body and spirit.
KFR will be a place for people to take a break and relax after the stress of the city and where there will be healthy physical exercise people can partake in as well as lots of healthy vegetarian food. I can’t wait for KFR to be up! I hope that with the kind support of people like Dato’ Sri Liow, KFR will manifest swiftly.
We have suffered so much. Instead of avoiding and keep suffering alone we can move forward by creating a place that send the message of giving, service, healing, and environmentalism. Everyone come together to learn about it and do it. Things we should be doing more in life but never get to doing it for most of us.
谢谢卫生部长百忙中过来看看禅修林的发展近况。他关心的是未来人们身心,外在和内在的健康。谢谢他给与的鼓励

Within a short time span, I trust that our honourable guests have gained some basic understanding about Kechara and the motives behind this retreat centre through information provided by KFR team.
I wish that Kechara’s visions can be spread far and wide through voices of these honourable guests and that we can continue to keep this friendship in a fruitful, positive and meaningful way for many years to come!!!

It seems like Kechara is getting a lot of attention from public and politicians. That is good and hope more people will join us in the Dharmahood。
It was a wonderful day to witness Dato’ Seri Liow visited KFR with his team. I was honored to served Dato’ Seri Liow and his team as I was assigned to be the waitress for the day hehehe. Dato’ Seri is very friendly, when he arrives he shake hands and greet everyone. Dato Ruby was touring Dato’s around the very creative cabins where Rinpoche’s short bio is and the pictures as well.
