The Lochness Monster of Alaska

Aug 3, 2011 | Views: 1,287

One of my students sent me an email regarding the appearance of another sea monster. This time the sighting is in Alaska. This sighting is very interesting as it supports the belief that perhaps creatures similar to Nessie and Montauk exists.

It would be easy to argue that such creatures come from the imagination of people if they were isolated cases, but when so many of these cases pop up perhaps it’s not merely a figment of a few people’s imagination?

The name of this creature is Cadborosaurus willsi. It has been nicknamed Caddy, after the area where it was found: Cadboro bay. Witnesses say that it resembles a serpent with vertical coils or humps in tandem attached to a horse-like head and a long neck. Caddy also has a pair of large hind flippers to form a large fan-like region in its tail.

Locals have been aware of Caddy’s presence for hundreds of years. The native Inuits of Alaska even stick pictures of Caddy on their oars with the belief that it would keep Caddy away…

The article below tells of Andy Hillstrand of the “Deadliest Catch” fame tracking Caddy in the icy waters of Alaska, as well as some footage of Caddy taken in 2009.

Are you a believer or… disbeliever? See the interesting video I have included for you. I personally like including videos on my blog as it adds more to our personal investigations.

The Loch Ness Monster of Alaska?

By Claudine Zap

Move over, Montauk Monster. Step aside, Nessie. There’s a new sea creature in town – maybe. Footage of a 20- to 30-foot long creature caught on tape by fishermen suggest we have an Alaska bonafide marine-creature mystery.

The black and white footage from 2009 is by no means definitive. It is taken on a rainy day with a shaky camera, which makes it all the more confounding. But you can check out the testimony of people who say they witnessed the creature’s appearance in the video above.

The Alaska-dwelling creature has been labeled a “Cadborosaurus willsi,” which means “reptile” or “lizard” from Cadboro Bay, British Columbia, where it was originally spotted centuries ago. Called “Caddy” for short, it has a “long neck, a horse-like head, large eyes, and back bumps that stick out of the water,” according to a report on MSNBC.

Though the tape captures the most recent sighting, tales of beholding the creature in the North Pacific have circulated for 200 years. In 1937, scientists thought they might have uncovered physical evidence when what was thought to be a sea serpent was found inside the stomach of a whale. Still, the creature is classified as part of Cryptozoology, i.e., a creature not formally recognized by the scientific community.

One true believer today is Andy Hillstrand, a veteran of the reality-TV show “Deadliest Catch,” who tracks the creature in his new show, “Hillstranded.” The seaman reports that he saw “a big, long white thing moving in the water. We chased it for about 20 minutes. Spray came out of its head. It was definitely not a shark…I’ve never seen anything like it before.”

Dear Rinpoche, I really want to see the Lochness monster with my own eyes. And I just thought of a new technology that will help us study the bodies of the animals plus, it will not harm the animals by doing that. The only thing that is stopping us from studying the Lochness monster is the blurry water they live in.

  2. Can you believe in this? | Tsem Rinpoche on Jan 11, 2014 at 10:35 am

[…] or beings that were described in books, or from stories shared by our family and friends. Like the Lochness Monster (Nessie) or Bigfoot (Sasquatch and Yeti), most of us have heard or read about them before. […]

  3. Edward ooi on Sep 4, 2013 at 1:08 am

Dear Rinpoche, there is many names and similarity of Loch ness monster. Some are named Nessy, Champ, Loch ness and etc. Some people still think that it’s only a myth but as for me, I believe that they do exist because there have so many sightings of them. I believe the place where have to most sightings of Loch ness is at Ireland and scientists says that there are only about 50 to 70 Loch ness left in the lake.

  4. Lucas Roth on Apr 24, 2013 at 6:39 pm

i believe that there are creatures out there and i believe that they are majestic and wonderful to see. i honestly cannot wait till there is solid evidence that nobody can doubt, that would not only be cool but extremely revolutionary because then people will know that there are creatures out there, then i can guarantee that they will try harder to find more amazing creatures.

  5. Sharon Saw on Jan 6, 2013 at 1:31 pm

i’ve always been intrigued by mysteries like this. The video looks very convincing but i’m always curious why with all the technological advances we have these days, which can measure so many things from satellites etc, we cannot have conclusive proof of the existence of these creatures which appear to be at least visible to the human eye and not from a spirit or other realm which may be more difficult to track.

Since there is so much anecdotal evidence over centuries, one is inclined to think that there is truth behind this creature but i hope that there will be physical evidence to confirm it soon.

  6. Sean Wang on Aug 8, 2011 at 3:51 pm

I found out through the Wikipedia page that Caddy has been found dead once and it may not be a hoax. They found the remains.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadborosaurus_willsi

    That is kind of cool.

  7. Kathryn on Aug 6, 2011 at 9:26 pm

    Dear Rinpoche,

I did watch this episode of “Deadliest Catch”, and thought of your Blog on the Paranormal. Hahaha…this was a very typically Alaskan approach to tracking a Sea Monster…throw in a really big hook, barrel, bait…and wait! It is so interesting that these creatures of the Northern waters have been sighted many times over the centuries, yet somehow they remain elusive…mysterious…just beyond our grasp. I was able to view again the photo of the carcass that washed ashore near Yakutat…it is as I remembered it. A very large eel or serpent like head, with a fairly large rib cage…maybe 20′ long. If I am able to identify and obtain permission from the fisherman who found it, I will send it to you!

    Prevent Snakes in Your Backyard

Artemisia Vulgaris (mugwort or common wormwood) is one of several species in the genus Artemisia which have common names that include the word mugwort. This species is also occasionally known as Felon Herb, Chrysanthemum Weed, Wild Wormwood, Old uncle Henry, Sailor’s Tobacco, Naughty Man, Old Man or St. John’s Plant (not St John’s wort).

In some places, wormwood is considered as an invasive weed. It is a very common plant growing on nitrogenous soils such as waste places and roadsides. It is a tall herbaceous perennial plant with a woody root.

The downside of this plant is that it is an aggressive and invasive plant that takes over wherever it is planted which leads to another issue of management control.

Not using some muscles for quite a time it’s known that they will weaken.

A perfect example is a leg injury like a broken bone (fibula) and you’re supposed to relax and use the wheelchair for some time in order to let the bone heal. In the meantime, your muscles won’t be active and thus become weaker. This is the same with the muscles surrounding your eye lens.

If it happens that you are wearing glasses as many do and you don’t practice exercises for your eyes, your vision will slowly weaken. Your eye muscles need practice just like every other muscle in your body.

A US court has upheld a law forcing Phoenix pet stores to only sell rescue animals, giving homeless cats and dogs a better chance at a second life.

Stores in Phoenix now cannot source animals to sell from commercial breeders.

The decision, which was passed by Phoenix City Council in December 2013 to tackle the rising amount of homeless animals in the area, has since been upheld in the courts to the delight of animal welfare activists.

The Humane Society of the United States senior vice president Jonathan Lovvorn has welcomed the decision by Arizona’s largest city and state capital.

The hardest thing about being Buddhist is we have to do things differently from the norm. Like what this person says in the video, usually when people say or do bad things about us, we will react immediately to prove them right. But as a Buddhist, we should not react to encourage more conflicts. We have to give the victory to others.

The secular environment we are is not a conducive environment for us to do our spiritual practice. It is very easy for us to slip away from our spiritual practice with all the temptation. We have to have a very strong mind to keep up with our practice.

Tsem Rinpoche has always been fascinating about Bigfoot, UFO, Loch Ness, Findhorn, Bermuda Triangle and strange phenomena happening around the world. Its wonderful to have Bigfoot figurine as a gift for Rinpoche from Pastor Seng Piow. Wow fantastic been made in Malaysia at KECHARA SARASWATI ARTS DEPT. So Kechara team are doing well ,been talented has come out with this Bigoot figurine. Definitely looks real based on the famous footage by Patterson. Great effort and time must had put to produce it. The real footage where Bigfoot was caught on camera has since proven that Bigfoot do exist after all.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Thank you Martin for sharing this wonderful post. I would not be who I am today without Rinpoche’s teachings. I thank Rinpoche every day for giving me such a strong spiritual blessing in my life. He was very sympathetic and cordial to even an unknown person. He was truly a living Buddha who has a thousand arms. He has a strict and humor method to teach us and we won’t feel been left out. I do enjoyed his Dharma teachings in You tubes and reading Rinpoche’s blog. Rinpoche is truly a spiritual legacy infused with his divine power and blessings.

Loyalty is the ability to put others before ourselves and stick with them in good times and bad or difficult times. Show loyalty to friends, family, teachers and significant others by being honest, trustworthy, supportive, and generous. Maintain healthy boundaries with those around us so we can be loyal to them in a productive way. The spiritual life of the teacher has an impact on us as a student. We cannot expect someone who lies to us to be loyal to us. Honesty is what creates loyalty. Loyalty needs to be handled with honesty and if we cannot be honest then we do not deserve loyalty.
Thank you for this wonderful sharing as a reminder for us all .

In the Japan earthquake and tsunami, reporters found two dogs and filmed this two dogs. One injured, and another who steadfastly refuses to leave his buddy’s side. Friendship and loyalty when times are rough. It speaks volumes about the strength of character of our dogs. It’s sad, yet touching. And ultimately inspiring!. Japanese dog refuses to leave injured friend behind at the time his friend needs him most. That’s truly ROYALTY a strong bond between them, they remained royal to each other. Well I think animals are better off than a lot of humans when comes to love, loyalty and gratitude.
Thank you Rinpoche for this inspiring sharing. To be ROYAL to all we met nor matter what happens.Being royal to our family, friends and teachers is the greatest virtue we can have.

Indeed our Guru care so much for all beings and in order to bring us to the right path, Rinpoche use all sorts of method to suit our stubborn mind. Rinpoche is so skillful in tackling our mind and because of his compassion and kindness that we are able to learn and practise dharma from him. Apart from our body, there are many things that we don’t own. The money, house, cars and things that we think we own them, we actually don’t. This is because when we die, we cannot take them with us.

The only thing we take with us is our karma. Whatever action or thoughts we have, they become our karma. Having a good motivation will make our thoughts or actions become positive karma or merit. These are the most important things that will determine whether we will end up in a good or bad place.

“… Madame Blavatsky … stands out as the fountainhead of modern occult thought, and was either the originator and/or populariser of many of the ideas and terms which have a century later been assembled within the New Age Movement. The Theosophical Society, which she co-founded, has been the major advocate of occult philosophy in the West and the single most important avenue of Eastern teaching to the West.”

It was not long ago that Tibetans like Zhaxipingcuo and Justin Qiangbarenzeng would neither have the opportunity nor choice to fulfil their dreams as they have today. Tibet was a desolated, isolated and poor but an “independent” state where life expectancy was 36 years and the literacy rate was 5%. The vast majority of the population, around 95%, were born into hereditary indentured labour with little to no hope of upward social mobility. Lamas and noblemen enriched themselves on the backs of poor peasants and needless to say, corruption and crime were endemic. It was a place where bandits roamed the countryside and where very basic items such as salt, tea, barley, cloth and yak butter were used as a means of exchange. Up until even the 1960s most Tibetans did not have matches, gunpowder or wheels.

Today, life is very different, “a giant leap for mankind” to borrow the words of astronaut Neil Armstrong. Tibetans have much more freedom to develop their abilities and opportunity to use them to their fullest. For example, Jampa Ringzin who certainly has the talent for sports, has had the opportunity to develop his baseball skills and as importantly, has been able to access the job he has now been recruited into, at a world class level. Under the old structure in Tibet, he would not have these similar opportunities or choice. This is really human development.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

Find one of the most beautiful temples in the world in Nara, Japan. It is the 1,267 year old Todai-ji temple that houses a 15 meter Buddha Vairocana statue who is a cosmic and timeless Buddha. Emperor Shomu who sponsored this beautiful temple eventually abdicated and ordained as a Buddhist monk. Very interesting history and story. 2 yearss ago
What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
