Coffee or tea with your Lamrim?

Oct 7, 2012 | Views: 854

About a month ago, Kechara House temple underwent a few revamps and departmental changes. A few nights ago, I received a few picture updates from Liaison Paul Yap who is currently heading Kechara House… I would really like to share them with everyone as I feel that they are very progressive changes! Paul is very creative, passionate and energetic. He always thinks of how to improve whatever department he heads. He is never stagnant or static. I like that alot. Everyone and every place has room for improvement to serve others better.

Paul did a wonderful job… He maximized space, human resources and found ways to utilize everything that we already have to create something more professional and effective for our members and visitors. Paul has great initiative and energy always.

All of our Kechara departments survive on donations from our kind sponsors, so I am very glad to see Paul making such wise and practical choices. Not only were his decisions cost-effective, but he thought of all ways to create more conducive working conditions where the Kechara staff can serve the public better. The donations are respected.

Do look at the pictures sent to me by Paul below, he has turned Kechara House into a place friendlier, more purposeful and more enjoyable for everyone of all ages.

Pictures of Kechara House revamped:

Our Kechara people smiling and waiting for your visit at the front desk… welcome and all aboard… Coffee, tea with your Lam Rim?

This place used to be Kechara Care’s head office. Kechara Care and Kechara House has now merged into one… As the number of pastors continue to grow, Paul saw that they needed a place to counsel our many members and friends…Many are now seeking the gentle and patient counsel of our Kechara Pastors. I am proud of them.

… welcome to the new pastor’s office! Inviting couches with comfortable pillows for our guests to feel right at home… there are even toys for the children!

Green Tara sitting in a cosy corner to bless all who enters the space.

Just like at home… look at the cute toys for the kiddies. Very nice.

Working tables for the pastors. Here they can have their own work stations, and hold their meetings.

One of the two private consultation rooms for the pastors.

In the Kechara House temple, there’s now a private space for Pastor Chia to officially register couples for marriage. Yes, we are officially able to legally register people for marriage by the Government.

Paul is such a great person. He is always smiling for everything, and very committed to his work. Personally what I like most about Paul is the good eye for statues that he has.

I believe that Paul has helped and nurtured many people.

The girls look so smart and professional! And they look better in person when I saw them in the Gompa. Kechara Paradise should do the same and not lose out.. Hehe.. Even the new Pastor’s office look so clean and spacious now. Paul did such a wonderful job!

  5. bengkooi on Nov 11, 2012 at 11:26 pm

Great initiative and good thinking from Paul, who has always been a leader who gets things done. Paul is an excellent example of a liaison who does more and contributes more as the years go by. As Rinpoche says, we should always do more, not less, and Paul is living that teaching.

During Rinpoche’s recent birthday celebrations (http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/kechara-13-depts/2-pastors-1-anila-58-taking-refuge.html), the Kechara House team were out in full force in their new uniforms, and they looked really smart. It reflected very well on Kechara’s organised and modern approach to Buddhism and the spreading of the Dharma.

  6. Albert Ratchaga on Nov 8, 2012 at 2:19 am

Paul is always very hardworking and he really do it with lots of sincerity, he always make sure everything is well functioned and best maximize the quality, now when I walk into Kechara House, the environment and the energy is so welcoming and especially the front desk ladies, they always greet you with a BIG SMILE 😀

Great to have KH and have it functioning so well, thank you Paul for all these 🙂

  7. AdelineTan on Nov 3, 2012 at 1:12 am

Paul has made Kechara house into a more conducive work place for the staff to work harmoniously and serve the public with their friendly smile and their smart uniforms so that this can attract more people into Kechara house to do more dharma work for the benefits of others.

  8. Sean Wang on Oct 27, 2012 at 11:01 am

This is so cool. Kechara house is growing at a phenomenal rate. There are more and more pastors being ordained. More lay people being able to spread the Dharma. This is so good 🙂 And Kechara House can now legally marry people! If I were to get married, I would definitely choose to get married with Kechara 😀

  9. Cynthia Lee on Oct 27, 2012 at 1:30 am

I feel the changes Paul makes really do make sense. It’s logical for Kechara Care to house the pastors because one of the main objectives for Kechara Care is to counsel people in need. This facility was not implemented before but now with 6 pastors in the house, Kechara is able to do so finally. Rinpoche’s foresight is truly remarkable as I remembered this is exactly what Rinpoche envision Kechara Care to do.

  10. Girlie Ooi on Oct 24, 2012 at 5:26 pm

Thank you to Paul and his team for the changes the space. Gives the place a professional look. Allocating consultation rooms for the Pastors is a great idea.

  34. The Yen on Oct 9, 2012 at 2:37 pm

Well done Paul. The whole set-up looks very engaging with personal touches to it. The ladies look gorgeous. I like the contrast of navy against the grey suit, and how timely it reflects the current Autumn Winter collection. The ribbon tying blouse against single breasted jacket is flattering. Talk about being fashion forward in a Buddhism set-up. Now how cool is that.

I particular like the new uniform for the front desk crew. Not only it is professional looking, it is very welcoming and warm.

Thank you Paul for all the efforts put into getting the new “upgrade”, and not forgetting the sponsors who made this happen!!

  41. daisy sun on Oct 8, 2012 at 7:34 am

Good job Paul, the physical makeover really suit for all stages of people from young to old (especially the comfortable sofa/toys)!! It would great for visitors to take a peep on what’s going on, based on a timetable which can be updated weekly (it can be start from a manually whiteboard) . For example http://www.fitnessfirst.com.my/admin/TimeTableV2.aspx?branch=116 , different color shows what are the programs suitable for newbie/ beginner/ registered class only and etc. keep it up!

  42. Sheryl KH (JB) on Oct 7, 2012 at 11:50 pm

It is very nice to see pictures posted here.

With Kechara living on sponsorships, we may have not have fancy and expensive spendings. But with sincere cares and loves given out to the public, I believe that sponsorships will come from those who appreciate help received from Kechara in the past.

I like it that even though Kechara may appear to be modern and unorthodox at times, but the beliefs are strongly backed up by Buddism and we have a spiritual adviser who is highly attained in Buddism teachings and who is caring for all beings 24 hours a day.

I like it that there are now pastors offices to serve many. Similarly, I am pleasantly surprised that there is an office to officially register marriages.

Great job Paul and your team!

  43. Sofi on Oct 7, 2012 at 8:48 pm

Yes, Paul is very pro-active and cares very much for Rinpoche and Kechara. He is all thinking and action, never idle and yet still have time to listen to feedbacks or suggestions. Kechara is on the way to the higher standard of service and simplifying of procedures. Great job, Paul and the Kechara House team.

  44. Julia Tan on Oct 7, 2012 at 7:08 pm

Thank you Paul for all the effort and time that you offered to Kechara. I like this makeover very much. Now our Pastors have their own space and office to work. More and more Pastors will be graduated in Kechara. By increasing the number of Pastors, Kechara will be providing more and more services to the public. I think it’s super wonderful to see couples to do their registration here.

The uniform is so neat and beautiful. Wow! You girls let me feel that wanted to visit Kechara immediately.

Albert Einstein was a German-born theoretical physicist, widely acknowledged to be one of the greatest and most influential physicists of all time. Famous for devising his theory of relativity, which revolutionized our understanding of space, time, gravity, and the universe .
Albert Einstein did said that Buddhism is a philosophy, not a religion. Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future. If there is any religion that would cope with modern scientific needs, it would be Buddhism.
He is often cited as one of the most influential scientists of the 20th century. His work continues to help astronomers study everything from gravitational waves to Mercury’s orbit. It is universal truth….as it covers both the natural and the spiritual and Buddhism has the answers. Interesting read. Reading through this post tell Einstein truly tell his love for Buddhism.

Revisit this old post again listening to the songs by George Michael and Elton John. It was more than 30 years ago that George Michael and Elton John’s duet of “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.” It’s known as one of the greatest pop duets of all time. Letting go is incredibly difficult. No matter what if we cling to worries about the future, or if we keep replaying the mistakes of the past we will never be happy. Let go and move on, if we want to be happy, do not dwell in the past, do not worry about the future, focus on living fully in the present. Time doesn’t heal emotional pain, we need to learn how to let go for sure. Learning Dharma is the best choice to focus on living fully and meaningfully in the present. Do not quit or give up nor matter what happens in life.
    Thankyou Rinpoche for this sharing.

The interesting biography of King Trisong Detsen, the second Dharma-king of Tibet, who truly established Buddhism in the Land of Snow . King Trisong Detsen, the 38th Yarlung King, had ruled over Tibet from 754 CE to 799 CE. He was the monarch responsible for the official adoption of Buddhism as the state religion of Tibet. It was due to his efforts that the great masters came from India and established Buddhism firmly in Tibet. He was also the king who invited nine royal physicians from neighbouring countries and laid the foundation of Tibetan medicine. Interesting read.

The Great Buddha of Kamakura ,is a bronze statue of Amida Buddha, which stands on the grounds of Kotokuin Temple in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, a temple belonging to the Jodo Sect of Buddhism. Wow…. it has long been the second tallest bronze Buddha statue in Japan, with a height of 11.4 meters. It is one of Japan’s most fascinating historical landmarks where thousands of tourist from all over the world visited yearly. The statue is an iconic sight and most visited by tourist in the area. The best is even Dharma songs as well revolving around Tibetan culture and religion. One of the band members is a long-time student of Tibetan Buddhism. Interesting spiritual journey of Venerable Longlian one of the best-known students of a famous religious leader of modern China. Venerable Longlian was a talented child, at the age of four she could read, write well and was fluent in Chinese poetry. She even could recite scriptures and Buddha’s name and had visited frequently to templesqith her grandparents. Ven. Longlian studied everything from poetry to Chinese medicine under famous teachers at that time. Received teachings from Tibetan scholars as well and took initiations of the three main Gelugpa tantric deities, Vajrabhairava, Guhyasamaja and Chakrasamvara from Changkya Khutukhtu, who was one of the highest authorities in the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism. She did composed more than 1000 poems, through her years.

In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, monastic vows are for life. But somehow Ci’en temple in Zhejiang province offers three-month course and part-time vows recently. Situated in the luxurious forest, Ci’en temple a small temple remains its charm with impressive landscape and Buddhist culture. The Buddhist temple decided to offer admission to civilians who wanted to experience a monk’s life, only to be overwhelmed with applicants. It’s a small temple , hence only those were interested in Buddhism were given a chance. Participants of the program will live as monks in the temple free of charge. They will learn about Buddhist culture, read its scriptures and will also perform all Buddhist activities as arranged. It’s a good training ground to live as a monk or nun to cultivate minds.

Ditsa Monastery is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery of Gelug sect in the Huzhu County of Qinghai province. Interesting history of this Ditsa Monastery, been shared . How the reincarnated Lama’s body has shrunk into an incorruptible adamantine body. Nobody at the monastery has realised that the reincarnated Lama was a Great Bodhisattva who came to the world for all sentient beings, but as ordinary people. Its only after the Lama had passed away. Since then the monks in Ditsa Monastery became more serious in their practice and maintained pure moral discipline. Reading this post has gave me a better understanding of that Bodhisattvas come into the world with a variety of manifestations as explained by Rinpoche. Set as a reminder to devote ourselves to our teacher with sincerity and respect and everyone we encounter.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Meditation on death awareness is one of the oldest practices in all Buddhist traditions. Buddhist meditation practice of remembering that death can strike at anytime and anywhere. We should practice diligently and with urgency in every moment, even in the time it takes to draw one breath. Over the centuries Buddhism has evolved many different techniques such as mindfulness, loving-kindness and visualisation. Death awareness can serve as a real aid to practice, the importance of using every moment wisely, while we still have the time.
Reading this article again to refresh , it’s a profound teachings one should read and understand it what is all about. All it take us 10 minutes of our time to do the practice.

n Buddhism, there are a variety of attitudes towards different forms of fasting . According to Buddhist tradition, Buddha’s holy form as the ‘Fasting Buddha’ serves as a reminder for us and inspiration of Buddha’s difficult journey to achieve enlightenment. Fasting Buddha Shakyamuni fasted for forty-nine days under the bodhi tree while subjecting his body to extreme conditions to achieve enlightenment. Although it is believed that the Buddha endured great agony because of prolonged fasting, he never gave up and had used the challenges to justify abandoning his spiritual pursuit. Interesting read. Looking at all those images of Fasting Buddha tells all.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing ….a reminder all of us nor matter what happen , never give up in our spiritual journey.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer

All attendees are paying homage to Rinpoche and Buddhas before the start of our weekly Dorje Shugden puja. Outwardly, it seems that Dorje Shugden helps practitioners overcoming their obstacles and problems but ultimately Dorje Shugden’s supreme purpose is to help practitioners on their path to Enlightenment. Do join in our weekly DS puja, every Saturday @3 pm at Jalan Seang Tek, Penang. ~by Jacinta

We are in the third week of Ramadan this year, and kind volunteers have never failed to feed people in need since Tengku Zatashah started this meaningful #zerofoodwastage initiative in 2016. The aim is to benefit the underprivileged with nice surplus food collected from Ramadan buffets. Every night during the month of Ramadan, volunteers collect surplus cooked food from hotels and distribute it to charity homes and low-income families. THANK YOU, Tengku, dedicated volunteers and hotel partners, for making this Ramadan special for the underprivileged. #kecharasoupkitchen #kecharafoodbank #kecharaempowerment - KSK @ Vivian

In 2021, we've encountered far too many challenges—Pandemic, months-long lockdown, landslide, and flood. We are proud to witness Malaysians helping one another as these agonies come sequentially. Looking back to 2021, Kechara Soup Kitchen has made significant progress, with more to come in 2022. Every year, we move a little closer to our vision. We are immensely thankful to have such dedicated teams of volunteers willing to go above and beyond for our clients. Not to mention our sponsors and donors; none of this would have been possible without you. Thank you. Thank you for being you. Thank you for helping the underprivileged to a better future. Have a blessed year ahead from our hearts to your hearts. #2022 #newyear #kecharasoupkitchen #kecharafoodbank #kecharaempowerment
