On 1st October 2013, Kechara opened its doors for clients in Dataran Pahlawan Megamall’s food court known as ‘Food Paradise’!

Dataran Pahlawan is a shopping mall located at the heart of historical Malacca. If you were to go to the 3rd floor of Dataran Pahlawan (one floor below the cineplex), you’ll be greeted by a large floor opening offering different types of food.

The decor of Food Paradise is reminiscent of Jonker Street, a popular heritage area of Malacca. To the right of the food court is Kechara’s corner that is next to a water feature.

At Food Paradise, Kechara offers a vegetarian mixed rice stall, books and gifts corner and a cozy reading lounge area. How wonderful!

On the first day, many customers came to have lunch at our vegetarian mixed rice stall. Currently, there are 23 dishes available:

    • Pastor Shin Tan on May 8, 2017 at 2:11 pm

      Dear Lars Lindbeck,

I’m sorry to inform you that we no longer operate the lounge at the food court in Dataran Pahlawan. Are you a tourist in Melaka and how long will you be staying there?

In 2 days (Wednesday 10th May) Buddhists around the world celebrate one of the most important days, Wesak Day, which commemorates the three most significant events in the life of Buddha Shakyamuni – the birth of Prince Siddartha Gautama, his Enlightenment and therefore becoming Buddha Shakyamuni, and the occasion of his parinirvana. We will be celebrating this auspicious event at Kechara Forest Retreat. It is a public holiday in Malaysia.

Kechara Forest Retreat is 1 hour away from Kuala Lumpur, and 3 hours away from Melaka. If you would like to visit us, this is the best place to experience what Kechara is all about and this is the best time to visit as we have activities from 8am to 9pm. You can read more about the event here: http://www.facebook.com/events/1894306447508574/ and here: http://www.kechara.com/peace-centre/events/domore-and-multiply-your-merits-this-wesak-day/

You can watch a short video about Kechara Forest Retreat here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwDeYR17EXI

As for travel arrangements, travel by bus is the most economical to go around.

You can check the bus schedule from Melaka Sentral to Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS, or Southern Integrated Terminal in Kuala Lumpur). Journey from Melaka to TBS will take around 2 hours 15 minutes.
Bus schedule from Melaka Sentral to TBS: http://www.easybook.com/en-my/bus/booking/malacca-to-tbsterminalbersepaduselatan

From Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS), there are a few bus operators that bring you to Bentong in a short 1 – 1 hour 20 minute journey

Congratulations to Kechara on the opening of a new outlet in Malacca. Situated across Hatten Hotel and near Mahkota Parade makes it easily accessible to the locals and tourists.

The set-up is simple and cosy giving customers a conducive environment to enjoy their food. There are so many vegetarian dishes that customers will be spoilt for choice.

Love the book corner which promotes reading at the same time for people to get to know Buddhism and Rinpoche’s books. The rattan chairs are relaxing and people can sit to enjoy reading a book. There are also Tibetan gift items and pendants available for sale. Customers can also use the computers set-up .

This Onestop well-planned and well-equipped outlet will bring benefit to many people and promote Kechara. People will benefit from healthy eating and awareness about Dharma & Rinpoche’s blog.

    Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.

    With folded hands

Wow! The place looks really good! Its already making me hungry. I hope I get the chance to visit Kechara Food Paradise one of these days. I love the range of vegetarian food that is offered. Thank you Rinpoche for always compassionately continuing to promote vegetarianism to the public. I have seen more and more people becoming vegetarian these days. May less animals suffer and die for our taste buds.

  5. Nancy Loo on Dec 2, 2013 at 2:53 pm

With the opening of Kechara Food Paradise in Melaka will definitely create a good cause for the people in Melaka and the tourists to plant seeds in Dharma and to know more about Kechara’s activities.

You can even have a fulfilling meal with all the varities vegetarian dishes being served !! May Kechara Food Paradise be able to spread it’s wings to other regions of the country.

  6. Edward Ooi on Nov 21, 2013 at 12:52 am

Dear Rinpoche, I love the new Kechara restaurant’s design very much. When I look at the food menu for the Kechara restaurant, my saliva was about to drip from my mouth. It is like I could almost taste the food! The restaurant is really big and I wish that one day I will have the chance to visit the restaurant.

  7. Adrian Cho on Nov 19, 2013 at 9:44 pm

Wow…. This is fantastic and wonderful place of food paradise. It is so beautiful decor and looks comfortable. Definitely will go visit this place one day and try the vegetarian foods.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing all the nice pictures to us.

  8. Uncle Eddie on Nov 19, 2013 at 4:57 pm

The owners of the Hatten group are great supporters, friends and faithful students of Rinpoche. Dharma has always been in their blood. Even in Dharma, everyone has “food” in their thoughts, especially clean healthy food like “Vegetarian”! Rinpoche always have a true sense of compassion for food concern for practioners and always want them to have the best! Such food sold by Kechara are nice and healthy which you can eat to your hearts concerned, yet remain charitably healthy for a good cause! Have a hearty meal at Kechara!

  9. Ruby Khong on Nov 18, 2013 at 7:15 pm

I am so happy that Kechara is going places and has expanded to Melaka. To all those who were involved in setting this up (Sharon Tan, JP Thong, Su Ming and many more), Congratulations and well done! I try avoid looking at the photos of the freshly cooked food because it makes me hungry and wishing so much that I live in Melaka!!

  10. wansan on Nov 18, 2013 at 12:08 am

The place looks so beautiful and modern. Now the Malaccans have the opportunity to get in touch with the Dharma and learn the Dharma. Besides that, they also can have their delicious vegetarian meal in this cozy setting.

  11. Girlie OOI on Nov 17, 2013 at 6:36 pm

I have not visited Melaka for some years now. Can’t quite remember when was the last time I visited.

I will make sure this is THE place to be when I next visit Melaka.

What a fantastic idea to have the food court in such a different environment.

  12. Adrian Chow on Nov 17, 2013 at 5:24 pm

This is a good news for Malaccans. Kechara is spreading every where in the corner of Malaysia and hopefully in the near future to Asia and the world. Thank you

When I back to Malacca, I purposely make a visit to Kechara Malacca. The place is full of nostalgia. The vegetarian dishes is delicious and nutritious too.
In Malacca this can be said first most delicious vegetarian dishes that Malaccan can enjoyed.
Thank you Rinpoche for bringing Kechara to Malacca.

  14. Grace Leu on Nov 15, 2013 at 9:41 pm

The design of Kechara Melaka look very nostalgic, it remind me the old days in kampung life, the sweet and friendly memorable old days. The place is well organised and a lot of choice of vegetarian foods, may more and more people connect with Kechara, connect with Rinpoche and received his valuable teaching.

  15. Carmen Lin @ KMP on Nov 13, 2013 at 7:48 pm

The place is spacious, simple and seemed to be a comfortable place to hang out with books and coffee. The vegetarian food selection is indeed mouth watering (yes, I’m hungry right now! hehe) This is a remarkable place to visit when you are in Melacca! Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this great news to everyone and a big thank you for the people who put in lots of efforts and hard work in manifesting this in Melacca!! Rejoice!

  16. Beatrix Ooi on Nov 13, 2013 at 2:59 am

Wow! Great to know that Kechara has a vegetarian restaurant in the shopping centre itself. The foods sure look delicious! I definitely will ask my parents to go there for lunch when we have the chance to travel to Melaka again. Thank You for sharing Rinpoche.

  17. Wah Ying on Nov 12, 2013 at 11:34 pm

Malaysians love food. To meet Dharma, Rinpoche and Kechara through food, is a good idea indeed.

From photos one might mistaken this is an outdoor food court…which actually is an indoor and air conditioning food court with computer and books corner! And after lunch/dinner, do some shopping, it could re-define the meaning of food court in Malaysia, hehe.

I would like to visit and dine in next time when I visit to Malacca…and introduce to my friends. 🙂

  18. Jutika lam on Nov 12, 2013 at 10:18 pm

    Dear Rinpoche,

It’s great to see how Kechara is gradually expanding not only in KL but also places such as Malacca.

I absolutely love the idea and layout of the place and it’s great to know that the locals there in Malacca as well as the tourists can now enjoy tasty and yummy vegetarian food!

Vegetarian food is great because it suits everybody regardless of beliefs, religion and etc.

May the Kechara Food Stall be a great success!

    Thank you Rinpoche for sharing!

    Love

The Hatten Group has been great sponsors and patrons of Kechara Forest Retreat. They have been loyal and supportive of everything that Tsem Rinpoche does. They are only interested in spreading the Dharma in whatever way they can. It is lovely that they do this as it will definitely help to spread Kechara’s name in Malacca. It would be great to take a long the next time I am in Malacca.

  23. Choi Sheem on Nov 11, 2013 at 10:40 pm

This is wonderful news. Kechara is now in the historic city of Malacca. I like the concept of having street food in the cool comfort inside a shopping mall. And there is even such a big variety of vegetarian dishes to choose from. After satisfying our hunger, we can browse through some of the books in the comfortable space provided. What more, there is also the gift shop to get some souvenirs for friends back home. As Malacca is a well known tourist destination, I am sure many visitors would get to know of Kechara and also savor the delicious vegetarian food.

  24. June Tang(KHJB) on Nov 11, 2013 at 9:56 pm

  27. Ong Moh Mei on Nov 11, 2013 at 2:11 am

This is fantastic opening for Kechara. The whole setup is very well though out and planned. This place promotes so many good lifestyle infused with dharma – vegetarianism, reading, internet.

We all have to eat so why not have a tasty affordable easily available vegetarian meal and you can practice compassion towards animals at the same time.

Chill out and relax while waiting for someone or just passing time by picking up a book and read. Reading is a culture that is losing its hold on the younger generation. What better than to promote the reading of dharma books which contents serve to bring peace and calm to our mind.

We live in a world so reliant on internet these days. Unfortunately a lot of the time is also spent on the internet on negative or senseless activities. Here we can promote Rinpoche’s blog and direct people to a site where they can access a variety of topic of interest but with positive influence.

We should truly rejoice because this is not just a mere food stall that serves food, this is a place of outreach where the seeds of dharma get planted in many mind stream.

  28. Boon on Nov 10, 2013 at 3:32 pm

It Is happy to see Kechara Food Paradise open in Melaka. Hopefully it ables to encourage more people to eat vegetarian meanwhile attract them to the dharma.

Congratulation to the opening of of the Kechara Food Paradise in Melaka. One not only can get a variety of delicious dishes at the stalls but also can relax and enjoy a cup of tea in a comfortable chilled area and also a cozy book corner for people who love reading dharma books and there are computers for free browsing too. I am sure a lot of people will find this is a interesting place to hang out. Another modern way to promote dharma through Food Paradise at the shopping malls.

Du Fu (712-770 AD), also known as Tu Fu, was a prominent Chinese poet of the Tang Dynasty, often considered one of the greatest alongside Li Bai. He was a poet-historian and a poet-sage, known for his realistic depictions of human suffering and reflections on the troubled times of his era. His poems, reflecting his personal experiences and the political instability of the time, have had a lasting impact on both Chinese and Japanese literary traditions.
    Interesting read.

H H Kyabje Pabongka Dechen Nyingpo is by far one of the most popular and influential Gelug religious figures of the 20th Century. One of Phabongkha’s most important aristocratic students, Lhalu Lhacham Yangdzom Tsering relationship to her teacher and his lineage teachings goes along way .She is famously remembered for is her unwavering devotion towards her guru, HH Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche. Yangdzom Tsering’s Shatra family were ancient sponsors and students of the Gelug tradition and had apparently been patrons of Tsongkhapa the founder of the Gelug school. The life stories of Lady Lhalu Lhacham Yangdzom as mentioned by Joona Repo is indeed inspiring. How her life struggles with tragedies, and her devotion to dorje Shugden and the Gelug tradition throughout her life.
Thank you Rinpoche for this great sharing of an inspiring lady.

Looking at these pictures remained me of my first pilgrimage to Wu Tai San. With the blessings of our guru, we able to visit Wu Tai San a significant Buddhist pilgrimage site . In fact it never did come to my mind that I am fortunate given a chance to go as I am still very new then. Upon hearing about the pilgrimage I got myself register without much thought. The history and stories of Wu Tai San has inspired me to go there. Interesting the Emperors Kangxi and Qianlong of China are closely connected to WuTai San. Wu Tai San located in Shanxi Province, China renowned as the home of Lord Manjushri the bodhisattva of wisdom, with different emanations of the bodhisattva residing on each of the five peaks. The area is dotted with over 50 temples and monasteries, many of which are historical and architecturally significant. Those temples built over 7 dynasties housing numerous Buddhist relics. Wutai Shan also offers stunning scenery, including snow-capped peaks, forests, and streams. Wu Tai San is one of the four Sacred Buddhist mountains of China, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wutai Shan was known to be a mystical and sacred site inhabited by divine spirits, accompanied by unusual events, such as miraculous light appearances at night.
We visited all the Holy sites, making offerings and doing prayers at each sites. We even have the opportunity to collect holy stones for future statue insertion or to keep on our altars. Times flies as our pilgrimage ended with so many stories to share with the rest.
Thank you Rinpoche and writes team sharing those pictures.

Padmasambhava, the Lotus-born Guru, also known as Guru Rinpoche is a legendary tantric Buddhist master who is widely revered in Tibetan Buddhism. He is seen as the second Buddha particularly within the Nyingma .He was a legendary Indian Buddhist mystic credited with introducing Vajrayana Buddhism to Tibet in the 8th century. As found in Buddhist scriptures Padmasambhava birth is often associated with legends and prophecies. Interesting…… Padmasambhava is depicted with eight manifestations, each reflecting a different aspect of his miraculous activities. Interesting article .

Milarepa Cave, situated high in the Himalayan mountain of Tibet, a sacred cave beckons pilgrims and spiritual seekers from across the globe. Milarepa Cave, a site of profound significance in Tibetan Buddhism, is merely a geological wonder. This sacred cave is also a living testament to the power of meditation and devotion. Its where an 11th-century yogi and poet who spent transformative years in solitary practice. Milarepa Cave graces Tibet’s rugged yet stunning landscapes, a region renowned for its deep spiritual heritage and breath-taking natural beauty. The cave’s importance is inseparable from a revered figure and the enduring legacy of Jetsun Milarepa a revered yogi and poet in Tibetan Buddhism. Milarepa Cave stands not just as a geological formation but as a powerful symbol of spiritual transformation and the enduring strength of Tibetan Buddhism. Reading this interesting cave had me Google for more information about this sacred cave. Numerous stories and legends surround Milarepa’s time in the cave, enhancing its mystical aura.
Thank you Rinpoche for this interesting post.

I wanted to take a moment to share a recent experience with you regarding my Instagram account. Unfortunately, my account was hacked, which was both frustrating and disappointing. Losing access to something that plays a significant role in my business and personal connections was incredibly stressful. What made the situation even more challenging was discovering that Meta does not have a dedicated support team to assist users facing account compromises. With so many people experiencing this issue daily, it’s alarming that their recovery process is not more accessible or efficient. After numerous failed attempts to recover my account through Meta’s standard procedures, I was fortunate enough to get in touch with a member of the Meta recovery department, @Rothsteincode on X (formerly Twitter), and via email at rothsteincode@gmail.com Their expertise and guidance were invaluable, and thanks to their assistance, I was able to regain full access to my account.
While I am incredibly grateful for their help, this experience has highlighted a major issue—Meta needs to implement better security measures and provide more reliable support for users dealing with these kinds of problems. The lack of direct customer support is unacceptable, considering how vital social media platforms have become for businesses and individuals alike.I wanted to share this with you in case you or anyone you know ever faces a similar issue. If you ever find yourself in this unfortunate situation, I highly recommend reaching out to @Rothsteincode for assistance. Hopefully, Meta will take action to improve their security policies and customer service in the near future.Thank you for taking the time to read this. Stay safe online, and let’s continue to support each other in this digital space.

A great history of a great yogi which I do enjoy reading , reading over it again and again. Jetsun Milarepa was a famous Tibetan siddha, known as a murderer when he was a young man. Who later turning to Buddhism and becoming a highly accomplished Buddhist disciple. Generally considered as one of Tibet’s most famous yogis and spiritual poets, whose teachings are known among several schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Milarepa’s story is one of struggle, anguish, resolve, and triumph all of which make him recognizably. Practicing these teachings for many years in isolated mountain retreats in caves such as caves hidden deep in the mountains of Tsum Valley. That’s where Milarepa attained enlightenment and gained fame for his incredible perseverance in practice and for his spontaneous songs of realisation. Milarepa is said to be the first to achieve the state of Vajradhara in one lifetime. That’s incredible.
Thank you Rinpoche for great sharing interesting read

H.H Kyabje Zong Rinpoche was a Gelug Lama, a sharp analyst, master of philosophical debate and a Tantric practitioner. Kyabje Zong Rinpoche was a disciple of the third Trijang Rinpoche, junior tutor of the 14th Dalai Lama. Rinpoche was known as a strong, detached and wrathful lama having impeccable knowledge of all rituals, art and science. Thousands of Westerners have received and benefited from his teachings both in the West and in India and gave many empowerments and teachings as well. Kyabje Zong Rinpoche was renowned for his many actions of powerful magic . We are fortunate and blessed listening to the powerful voice of Kyabje Zong Rinpoche’s precious teachings as in this blog.

Visiting Tibet, holy Gaden Monastery is everyone dream and a once life time. Of course if we have the means to visit again will be great. End of December 2008 and early January 2009 our Guru H E Tsem Rinpoche with a small group students visited Tibet. Thousands of pilgrims, visitors and tourists around the world have visited this incredible holy land for the last 600 years. Tsem Rinpoche visited Tibet for the first time with an oxygen tank. I am fortunate to visit this holy place with my Dharma brothers and sisters years back.
With our Guru blessing we went without any without any hitch. Visited most of the monasteries and could feel the powerful energies there. Looking at those pictures in this blog reminds me of trip there.

Interesting….. a ground breaking documentary by world BBC where everyone should watch. BBC did mentioned and documented that Jesus was a Buddhist monk and that he had spent some years in India. I would not know about this till I came across this blog. Many people most probably too. Interesting watch one should not miss. Jesus was a religious leader revered in Christianity, one of the world’s major religions. He is regarded by most Christians as the Incarnation of God. Historical evidence indicates that Jesus was well acquainted with Buddhism. Historical evidence indicates that Jesus knew about Buddhism. Other evidence, while perhaps apocryphal, indicates that he spent most of his so-called lost years outside Judea, possibly in Kashmir to study Buddhism exclusively.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

The Great Buddhas of Bamiyan were two monumental Buddhist statues built around 600 CE. A holy site for Buddhists on the Silk Road, historically a caravan route linking the markets of China with those of the Western world. The two most prominent statues were the giant standing sculptures of the Buddhas .It was the site of several Buddhist monasteries where monks at the monasteries lived as hermits. It was until in 2001, both statues were destroyed by the Taliban . Before being blown up in 2001, they were the largest examples of standing Buddha carvings in the world .Buddhism was eliminated in Afghanistan by the 13th century during the Mongol conquests. Sadly all statues depicting humans in Afghanistan was destroyed. They were perhaps the most famous cultural landmarks of the region, and the site was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Despite the Buddhas’s destruction, the ruins continue to be a popular culture landmark, where many locals, pilgrims and tourist visit the site.
Thank you Rinpoche for this interesting blog.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

Find one of the most beautiful temples in the world in Nara, Japan. It is the 1,267 year old Todai-ji temple that houses a 15 meter Buddha Vairocana statue who is a cosmic and timeless Buddha. Emperor Shomu who sponsored this beautiful temple eventually abdicated and ordained as a Buddhist monk. Very interesting history and story. One of the places everyone should visit- https://bit.ly/2VgsHhK

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
