Sodexo and KSK served 1000 hungry stomachs
Dear friends,
Dato’ Ruby, my close student and President of Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) sent me interesting updates last night about the Sodexo Malaysia Servathon 2012. The event was a joint community effort by Sodexo and KSK to serve food to over 1000 people!! Sodexo is a French multinational corporation head-quartered in the Paris suburb of Issy-les-Moulineaux, France. They are one of the largest food services and facilities management companies in the world, with over 380,000 employees, representing 130 nationalities. They have 34,000 sites in 80 countries.
The Servathon is an annual event held in all 80 countries they are present in. Since 1997, every April, Sodexo encourages employees around the world to join forces together to fight hunger in their local communities. This is all through their STOP Hunger Initiative. 2012 marks the first time the Servathon is held in Malaysia. In 2011, more than 39,000 employees in 30 countries participated in various projects, donating the equivalent of 200,000 meals to those in need!!
Back in Malaysia, Servathon chose KSK as their partner for the Servathon 2012 event. The event was held yesterday, 21 April 2012 on the field opposite of KSK’s building at Jalan Barat, KL. I was very happy when I heard the news that over 1000 people from various race, religion and age benefited from this program. KSK invited their homeless clients, Rumah Orang Tua Ampang (Old Folks), Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mary (Indian kids) and Surau Jamal Al-Surur (Muslim kids) which made up to over 1000 people. 500 red packets were also given out during the event kindly sponsored by a KSK sponsor.
50 of Sodexo’s staffs were on their feet since 8am to volunteer their time to serve the community. They prepared the food, goody bags and everything else that were needed to make the event a success. Sodexo’s country manager, Mr Col Lin Yeo was also present along with all his comrades. Everyone worked extra hard and did not mind getting dirty and sweaty to serve the homeless community, old folks and orphanages I was told. The event ended at 1.30pm with both care givers and care recipients going home contented. Sodexo also said that they want to hold this event again with KSK next year!
KSK has really grew since its younger days. I am very proud of Dato’ Ruby, KSK’s committee and all volunteers who work tirelessly every week to feed our street friends and now engaging with other corporations to serve a larger community.
This is what I want to do in Malaysia and continue with this. We are having Kechara Soup Kitchens (KSK) now in Shanghai, China and also Jakarta, Indonesia. I hope people can do this all around the world.
Hunger has no barriers…

It is amazing that KSK is serving so many people in one go, their energies that come about serving so many people cannot be ignored may it create much merit for the buddha dharma to flourish in this world.
Nothing is more happy than giving a packet of food to someone who is hungry, whatever race you are, religion, gender, nationality, age, occupation, or whoever we are, when we are hungry, what we need is not money, not house, not car, but a packet of food.
Kechara Soup Kitchen has been serving the poor for the past 5 years, this day, they serve more than 1000 people in Malaysia, it has been Dato Ruby’s effort for the past years to be on this stage, congratulations to KSK and may the work in kechara be benefit to more and more people.

Few day ago, i met my long lost contact friend over 15 years from high school time. My friend told me that, his brother also one of the people received help from KSK. Apparently my friend brother was loss from Johor. He was living on the street for nine month stayed at the Pudu area at Kuala Lumpur. When his hungry and need food. KSK provide food and care for him like others the homeless people.
I am so happy to hear that KSK was able to serve your friend’s brother during his trying times. I hope he is fine now? If not, he can contact us to see how else we can help him, perhaps with job placement.
KSK is always benefiting so many people, irregardless of races and religion. Keep up the good work, and thanks to Rinpoche’s vision to help many others!
Kechara Soup Kitchen was the “Brainchild” of our Guru Tsem Tulku Rinpoche in the very early days of October, 2006. KSK was inspired by the phenomena of the childhood trails and tribulations of Tsem Rinpoche. At the starting out, only 15 packages of food were given out to the hungry and homeless poor then. At the joint community event on 21 April 2012, held between Sodexo and Kechara Soup Kitchen, over 1,000 people of various races and religions, both young and old were given packages of vegeterian food to satisfy their hunger, in addition to goody bags containing towel, milo drinks, fruits and biscuits. Ang pows red packets with cash were also distributed out by Sodexo’s employees and KSK sponsors too! Sodexo had expressed its wish to hold such event again next year with KSK…….also an expressed desire of Tsem Rinpoche, except that Rinpoche prefers it to be a continous yearly event, and hopefully to be an “adopted” event by others all around the whole Wide World!! “HUNGER KNOWS NO BARRIERS”.
First of all let me thank Dato Ruby, Kechara Soup Kitchen and last but not least Sodexo. These people really worked so hard to feed and help the homeless in every way. Also good to see people from all races come together and to see Kechara Soup Kitchen and Sodexo feed them.

Congratulations to KSK team lead by Dato Ruby and Sodexo! If all of us contribute to our communities in our own ways, our communities would be a better place to live in. Harmony, care and kindness in our communities are what we really need.
KSK and Sodexo fed the people regardless of their race, religion and gender. Kudos!

Wonderful moment… sad that I couldn’t join you guys this time as I had to take care of KSK’s booth and food bank in Sunway. Anyhow it was still a great experience for me to share and educate people about KSK in Sunway. Proud to be a part of KSK team.
I received this message from a regular KSK volunteer on last Sunday night – “Actually KSK help balance my life. I’m thankful to Rinpoche and Kechara people”. He is a Christian but he recognized Rinpoche’s and Kechara’s effort to help many beings including himself. He personally told me many times that he hopes one day he has the chance to meet Rinpoche so I invited him to visit Gompa, blog and youtube for more teachings. hehe!
Take good care Rinpoche. Your hardwork, teaching and vision helps countless beings regardless race and religion.
Thank you very much.
With Love, VP
Rinpoche has touched the lives of so many regardless of their background. Spirituality has no barriers, just as hunger. We are so fortunate Victor to have Rinpoche in our lives to guide us on our spiritual journey. Thank you for sharing our blessed gift to others.
