His Holiness the 10th Panchen Lama

Tibetans commonly refer to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama as the “sun and moon” of Tibetan Buddhism. They are the center of Tibetan Buddhist civilization, which draws to its sphere of influence millions of non-Tibetan practitioners. The Panchen Lama’s incarnation line began with the 16th abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen (1570 – 1662). He was bestowed the title of Panchen Lama by His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama after being declared as an emanation of Amitabha.

After being given the title, his three previous incarnations were posthumously also bestowed the title, making Lobsang Chokyi Gyeltsen the 4th Panchen Lama. He became a teacher to many Tibetans, Bhutanese and Mongolian religious figures, including His Holiness the 4th and 5th Dalai Lamas, and the 1st Jetsun Dampa of Mongolia. A prolific author, Chokyi Gyeltsen is credited with over a hundred compositions, including a number of commentaries and ritual texts that remain central in the Gelukpa tradition today. Along with his role as a teacher of the Dharma, the Panchen Lamas are usually responsible for the recognition of the rebirths of the Dalai Lamas, and vice versa.

The 10th Panchen Lama, Lobsang Trinley Lhundrub Chokyi Gyeltsen (19 February 1938 – 28 January 1989) continued both the spiritual and political roles of his predecessors. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, his contemporary, was even heard to say and echo the Panchen Lama’s own words that the Dalai Lama would safeguard Tibet from the outside while the Panchen Lama would safeguard Tibet from the inside, as he never left Tibet after the political troubles of 1959. He was truly loved by the Tibetans, all the way until his passing. When he taught, thousands of people would attend, not only from his own Gelug lineage, but masters and practitioners from all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

At his sprawling monastery of Tashi Lhunpo, he has a special chapel specifically dedicated to Dorje Shugden, where prayers and rituals are performed on a daily basis. In his great omniscience the Panchen Lama held Dorje Shugden as the principal Dharma protector of the monastery. He also personally propitiated Dorje Shugden among other Dharma protectors, and even wrote extensive prayers and rituals to Dorje Shugden. These rituals and prayers are contained within his ‘sung bum’ or collected works, which are provided here. As such a great lama, with an erudite and clear understanding of the Buddhist scriptures, a teacher to millions in both Tibet and China, from an established incarnation line and an emanation of the Buddha Amitabha, he could not be mistaken about his practice of Dorje Shugden.

His Holiness 10th Panchen Lama is known for his composition of commentaries and practice texts that are still in use by contemporary Buddhist practitioners both in Tibet and across the world. One of these is a powerful ritual composition propitiating the compassionate Dorje Shugden.

Upon the request by Acharya Lobsang Jangchub to compose a shorter version of the prayer (sadhana) for the exhortation of activities of Dorje Shugden, Panchen Lama immediately composed an abbreviate form of Dorje Shugden’s Kangsol. This text is entitled “Manjunatha’s (Tsongkapa) Lineage protector Dorje Shugden and five forms wrathful propitiations and confessional prayers and fulfilment of activities rites” or “Melodious sound of Accomplishment of the Four Activities” for short. Once the prayers were completed, he had signs and strong feelings that Dorje Shugden has been working hard to protect the Buddhadharma in general and the lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa specifically.

Mirroring the abilities of one of his earlier incarnations, Khedrub Je, a disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa and master of both sutra and tantra, the Panchen Lama used his compositional skill and poetic prowess to create a masterful sadhana. Worthy of note is a praise in which the first letter of each verse is a Tibetan vowel. Such compositions are rarely seen, and have historically only been used when propitiating senior Dharma protectors such as Palden Lhamo and Kalarupa.

The Panchen Lama also stated that while composing the Dorje Shugden sadhana (prayers) he was filled with a sense of happiness and bliss. He ends the composition with not only his official title but his ordination name, Tenzin Trinley Jigme Choje Wangchuk, endorsing the validity of his work. He composed the sadhana in his own Tashi Lhunpo monastery while in the Hall of Clear Light and Bliss.

For the first time available, Dorje Shugden and his entourage of 32 assistants of his mandala.

Dorje Shugden is a powerful protector deity who is also an emanation of Manjushri, a wisdom bestowing Buddha. Therefore, he has great ability to help us to progress further on the spiritual path. He does this by helping us to overcome obstacles and problems for the modern individual.

Due to his enlightened nature, Dorje Shugden is able to manifest 32 deities and within the same abode resides Setrap and Kache Marpo:-

    1. 5 Dorje Shugden families or emanations. They consists of the following:-

    – Dulzin Dorje Shugden, which performs activities to eliminate inner and outer obstacles.
    – Shize, which performs activities to pacify all illnesses and disease.
    – Gyenze, which performs activities to increase all desirable material and spiritual wealth.
    – Wangze, which performs activities to control difficult people and circumstances.
    – Trakze, which performs activities to wrathfully eliminate all insurmountable obstacles and life-threatening situations.

    2. 9 Mothers. They represent protection of the five senses and developing control of the four elements. These are all attributes that signify their ability to assist tantric practitioners with their higher meditations.

    3. 8 Guiding Monks. They represent the Eight Great Bodhisattvas (Avalokitesvara, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Samantabhadra, Maitreya, Kshitigarbha, Akashagarbha, Sarva-nivarana-viskambini) and they bring about the growth of the Dharma, through the Sangha, Dharma practitioners and Dharma establishments.

    4. 10 Youthful & Wrathful Attendants. They represent the ten wrathful attendants to avert inner and outer obstacles. They are beings who are from Mongolia, China, Kashmir, India, Bengali, etc.

    5. Setrap. He is a senior Dharma Protector from India and an emanation of Amitabha Buddha. He had enthroned Dorje Shugden as an authentic Dharma Protector. Therefore, he also resides within the same mandala of Dorje Shugden.

    6. Kache Marpo. He is not an emanation of Dorje Shugden but he is still an enlightened Dharma Protector in his own right. He was originally known as Tsiu Marpo of Samye Monastery. However, he has placed himself under the service of Dorje Shugden as his chief minister, performing many activities in order to protect and benefit practitioners. Therefore, he stands guard at the main entrance of Dorje Shugden’s mandala. He often takes trance of qualified mediums to speak.

    7. Namkar Barzin. He is the reincarnation of an old Mongolian monk and when he passed away in Phari area of Tibet, his spirit was placed as a powerful assistant of Dorje Shugden. He guards and protects buildings and great institutions especially those that benefit others. He rides on a mythical Gyaling animal that resembles a goat but with scales.

These sacred images are available on *Vajrasecrets. They are made of high quality alloy and are one of a kind. They are based on the lineage of His Holiness Panchen Rinpoche’s monastery, Tashilhunpo in Shigatse, Tibet. In fact, the iconography of these statues are based on detailed photographs taken by H. E. Tsem Rinpoche during a trip to Tashilhunpo’s protector chapel. These are based exactly as the 10th Panchen Lama’s personal collection.

I like all these powerful memes that bring various messages across. It is direct, simple and comes with nice background. I hope this memes will bring the awareness of Dorje Shugden ban to many people around the world. The baseless allegation and ban on Dorje Shugden is ridiculous and bring lots of suffering to the practitioners.

No one should be harmed for following his Guru’s instruction in practising Dorje Shugden. Everyone has the right to choose their belief and religion. It is not right for CTA to ban and discriminate Dorje Shugden practitioners. We hope Dalai Lama will help to stop this controversy of 20 years and support religion freedom to all.

Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor Seng Piow, I agree wholeheartedly, a Buddha will never turn away someone is ‘deluded’ assuming that is what, that has happened. Very powerful memes to bring awareness to the public.

These are very nice memes. They are very meaningful and inspiring quotes/thoughts.

Everyone have the right to their religious choice and faith. No one should ever suffer, be humiliated or assaulted, be segregated or denied access to schools and hospital based on their religious belief/faith.
“May Dorje Shugden the wisdom protector and Dalai Lama the compassionate lama mend all differences soon.”

Thank you, Rinpoche and Pastor Seng Piow for compiling these powerful memes.

  10. Soon Huat on Mar 12, 2017 at 10:25 pm

Thank You Rinpoche and Pastor Seng Piow for putting this together.I like the idea of putting powerful quote or teaching with beautiful scenery. The more I understand the anti-Dorje Shugden campaign from the blog or blog chat, the more I feel strongly that it is illogical. We all are Buddhists, we should promote compassion and love as well as harmony. However, the anti-Dorje Shugden campaign is segregating and destroying the harmony of Dharma groups. It induced a lot of suffering of innocent people; they can not attend school to get proper education, they can not go to hospital to get the necessary treatment, they can not even buy grocery from stores for their daily need etc. Their acts (from CTA) is not telly to Dharma, in fact, they might need to suffer heavy karma due to that.

I respect those Tibetans hold tight and keep clean samaya with their Gurus to keep Dorje Shugden practice in their hearts regardless of the severe suffering they are encountering. No One can change the practice our Guru given to us. I will keep Dorje Shugden practice to the last breath of my life as it is given by my Guru.

I bow down my crown of my head to Dalai Lama to lift the Dorje Shugden ban and restore the harmony of Dharma/Buddhism. We harm nobody but we love everyone regardless of their religion/color/sex.

Thank You Rinpoche for always guiding me.

Very meaningful, inspiring and powerful thoughts of Rinpoche.I have it shared with my friends. All the beautiful images and powerful words paints a thousands words ,hoping more and more people are aware of all the sufferings and discrimination and understand more.No one should ever suffer, be segregated, assaulted, hurt, denied services and biased for their religious beliefs.May H.H. Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugden practitioners have a dialogue to resolve this conflict soon.May all Dorje Shugden practitioner and non practitioner live in harmony and peacefully.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor Loh Seng Piow for sharing these meaningful and powerful thoughts.

  12. Stella Cheang on Mar 6, 2017 at 1:09 pm

At a glance, the Dorje Shugden people are portrayed as the anarchist who seemed to be practicing something wrong that cause harmful effect on Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Cause. In actual fact, there is a heavy-handed effort to persecute, discriminate, punish and abuse those who practice Dorje Shugden even though it is reported Internationally that there is religious freedom among the Tibetan Buddhist. This itself is an irony.

As we read more, we will understand
    – there is nothing wrong in propitiating to Dorje Shugden because of who he is as well as how and why he arose as the Dharma Protector,
    – it cannot be that all the great lamas who practiced Dorje Shugden for the last 400 years were wrong
    – how it is common for Tibetan to mix politics and religion affair, and terrible things were done to innocent people because of politicians, which was recorded in Tibetan history time & again
    – how by forcing practitioners to abandon the practice passed down by our lineage guru is considered as breaking clean samaya with the guru, and it is as good as stopping one from gaining spiritual attainments.

Therefore, we plea Dalai Lama to please help stop this from continuing as it is harming the Tibetan community on every aspect, spiritually, economically, and politically.

This is such a wonderful change. People who take the time to research and think logically about the Dorje Shugden issue can easily see past the prejudice. I am seeing more and more of this shift away from blind hatred of an ancient and holy practice that has been maligned. Very happy for Suzy. Tsem Rinpoche, who is a outspoken Dorje Shugden practitioner, is being harassed and cyberbullied almost on a daily basis. They spread all kinds of lies and rumours about Rinpoche just because of Dorje Shugden.

However, I have never see retaliation from Tsem Rinpoche. He still teach us kindness, and He even told us not to be rude to people who are rude & acted violent against us.

I particularly like these images because they send a very strong message of humility and kindness. Though we face much obstacles and many people slander us, we are still going to humbly request HH Dalai Lama to end the segregation.

I pray more and more Tibetans will realise one that the meaning of these images, not just blindly follow without questioning the validity.

Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa, Tibet

Over 400 years ago a great and learned lama Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was famed in Mongolia, Tibet, Nepal and China for being very saintly and compassionate. He resided in his residence (Zimkhang Gongma Ladrang) in Drepung Monastery. His root guru was H.H. the Omniscient 4th Panchen Lama and his close dharma brother was the 5th Dalai Lama.

The 5th Dalai Lama and Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen had a very close and dharmic relationship and often went to receive teachings together from the 4th Panchen Lama. They were close in age. They both became very learned and well known. During this time, the Dalai Lama was enthroned as a Dharma King of Tibet. But more people went to see Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen for teachings, initiations and divinations. This made the attendants of the 5th Dalai Lama feel threatened that Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s fame might usurp the power of the 5th Dalai Lama. So they had a khata forced down his throat. At that moment, Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen dissolved his psychic winds and generated the wish to be a great guardian of Buddha and Tsongkapa’s teachings. As his consciousness dissolved, he entered ‘bardo’ as a dharma protector of the highest order (jikten depey sungma). Many signs were seen throughout Lhasa at this time and the earth was said to have shaken in Lhasa. This event was already predicted to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s previous incarnation when he was one of the 8 main disciples of Lord Tsongkapa the Supreme Master and he served Tsongkapa directly by building Gaden Monastery.

When the 5th Dalai Lama heard what his scheming and power-hungry attendants had done, he was very distressed. He was very sorry Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen was murdered and dishonored as he was a great dharma master. The 5th Dalai Lama composed an apology to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen. In Lhasa, tens of thousands gathered for the cremation of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s holy body. During the cremation, the 5th Dalai Lama’s apology was read out at which flames spontaneously arose from the body of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen commencing the cremation. From the body, during cremation, a powerful whirlwind of smoke tunneled into the sky for all to see as this was an indication Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen’s consciousness has arisen as the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. The Dharma Protector Setrap immediately recognized this new protector Dorje Shugden and ‘enthroned’ him as a powerful Dharma Protector in the realm of the Buddhas. From this, Setrap and Dorje Shugden are closely connected and very close working hand in hand always. After the cremation, the great 5th Dalai Lama built a Dorje Shugden chapel on the spot the cremation took place and named it Trode Khangsar. The 5th Dalai Lama commissioned the statue of Dorje Shugden in this chapel and had monks installed in the chapel to do continuous propitiations to Dorje Shugden. Trode Khangsar Chapel was a commemoration to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who was wronged and also a celebration of his consciousness arising as the World Peace Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

This Trode Khangsar Chapel still exists now in Lhasa where many make pilgrimages there. It is in good condition and was recently renovated. It is over 400 years old and a testimony to the respect the Great 5th Dalai Lama had to Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen who arose as Dorje Shugden.

I have visited this holy chapel in Lhasa years back. I’ve never heard of it till I was in Lhasa and by chance, I was told about it which I was happy to visit. I could not find the place but strangely a bunch of pilgrims from Amdo told me they would show me how to get there in Lhasa.

This short video is a short clip of this holy Trode Khangsar Chapel in Lhasa today commemorating Dorje Shugden, built by the great 5th Dalai Lama. The great 5th Dalai Lama even composed a prayer to Dorje Shugden which is still available today and we can recite to invoke the blessings, protection, and assistance of World Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

The 5th Dalai Lama’s Prayer to Dorje Shugden

    HUM
Though unmoving from the sphere of primordial spontaneity,
With wrathful turbulent power, swifter than lightning,
Endowed with heroic courage to judge good and bad,
I invite you with faith, please come to this place!

Robes of a monk, crown adorned with rhinoceros leather hat,
Right hand holds ornate club, left holds a human heart,
Riding various mounts such as nagas and garudas,
Who subdues the mamos of the charnel grounds, praise to you!

Samaya substances, offerings and torma, outer, inner and secret,
Favourite visual offerings and various objects are arranged.
Although, previously, my wishes were a bit dense,
Do not stop your powerful apparitions, I reveal and confess!

Now respectfully praising with body, speech, and mind,
For us, the masters, disciples, benefactors and entourages,
Provide the good and avert the bad!
Bring increase like the waxing moon in spiritual and temporal realms!

    Moreover, swiftly accomplishing all wishes,
According to our prayers, bestow the supreme effortlessly!
And like the jewel that bestows all wishes,
Always protect us with the Three Jewels!

Thank you for having the strength, courage and genuine care to stand up and speak peacefully for what you believe in. No one should ever suffer, be segregated, assaulted, hurt, degraded, belittled, cursed, hated and biased for their religious beliefs. No one should advise anyone against any religious belief. If we want to find people who hate a certain religion, we can find plenty. If we want to find people who like a certain religion or form of spirituality, there will be plenty. In the end who is right and wrong? Which religion is right or wrong. All or some or none? Therefore it is more logical to respect all religions, all faiths and all forms of spirituality. In history many have exploited religion for selfish purposes and many have not. As long as I have not, that is all that matters. I cannot and will not speak for others of my faith and what their motive is, but I know my motive. No one and no leader and no religious leader should ever hurt, segregate or speak against another religion. Time for peace. Time for harmony. Time for respect. Time to look beyond mine/your religion and be kind. Be kind to everyone. Never put anyone down because of their religion.

    Humbly,

    Tsem Rinpoche.

P.S. I wish very much the people from His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s views/side and people from the side of Dorje Shugden practitioners meet very soon. May they meet in peace, with kindness in the hearts and good motivation to solve this issue once and for all. We have to solve this through peaceful dialogue. I never protested against His Holiness Dalai Lama nor spoke harshly against his views ever. I have always respected his and everyone’s views. We all have to live on this earth together. You will not accept my way of spirituality and I will not accept your’s and that is okay. But we must respect each other’s spiritual faith and NEVER criticize or advise against it. We must respect also what we don’t accept. Everyone has their way. Advising against another’s religion/faith/spirituality creates so much disharmony. No more disharmony. It’s been 19 years since the ban against Dorje Shugden started. It must end please. We have so many things to argue about in this world, let’s make one less conflict. I wish this conflict to end peacefully soon. I wish His Holiness the Dalai Lama and supporters can open channels of communication and solve this issue soon. Peaceful dialogue please and soon. Thank you.

    peace

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing all the beautiful quotes. So much of love, compassion, respect and sincerity… Rinpoche always reminded us to kind to others to be kind to all beings. We will never forget what Rinpohce taught us, we will never forget our lineage which alll the way from HH Kyabje Zong Rinposhe, HH Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and HH Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche, we do not forget what The Buddha has taught us. Simply because we already took refuge to the three jewels and we are Buddhist. One of the principle teachings of being a Buddhist we do not discriminate any beings.

    Dear Rinpoche,

Great words to ponder upon. I especially like what Rinpoche placed at the end about Buddha Shakyamuni… indeed the Enlightened One will not segregate any beings and welcomes all.

If within our own community, we fight… how to be united as a whole with other religions? Hmm….

    Thank you.

  24. tsemtulku on Feb 13, 2015 at 2:23 am

It’s amazing, sometimes when you make a spiritual choice, some people can criticize and segregate you for it. As if your choice must be approved by them. If they don’t approve they have some mandate to tell you that you are wrong and also can be rude for your choice of faith. If you don’t pray to what they pray to, then your ‘god’ is a demon or something. How archaic. LOL. I find that amazing. LOL again. How can you come to my space, face and life and tell me my religion is wrong? I didn’t hurt anyone with my faith and I don’t intend to. Whatever others of my same faith are or are not doing is not me. So don’t bundle me up into the same package. I am me and they are them. Besides, I am more than my religion. There are many aspects of who I am. So don’t just look at my spiritual choice and summarize me. You don’t know me. And you don’t have to know me. Also I owe nothing to you. I don’t need your approval for my spirituality. I would love to be your friend but let’s not let our spiritual choice ever get in the way. Be modern, be today and accept who I am as I don’t hurt anyone. 🙂 So look at all parts of who I am but the bottom line is my spirituality is my choice, do not ever presume to comment, disparage, judge or even think anything about it. I eat what I want. I dress as I like. Live where I want. Befriend who I wish. Write what I like on my social media space and pray to whatever I feel is working for me. Full stop! 🙂 Thanks for letting me live my life as your opinion of it is not needed, requested or solicited and I say this with deepest respects to you.. Humbly, Tsem Rinpoche

May all attained Lamas and Rinoches have long life so that they can spread the Dharma and benefit all sentient beings; teaching them the path out of the endless cycle of samsara. _/|\_

I really do hope that the Dalai Lama and Dorje Shugden practitioners resolve this conflict soon.

    Your humble student,

Thank you Rinpoche for all these inspiring quotes , may the ban lifted soon and may all the Shugden practitioner be able to practice freely without any restrictions.

  32. Beatrix Ooi on Feb 9, 2015 at 4:01 am

I really love all of these picture quotes, they are so genuinely and sincerely written. One of the picture that stuck out to me was the one that says: ” our mind acts like our enemy for those who lack control to it. ” Our mind is the most important as it determines our attitude, personality, ability, rebirths etc. Controlling our mind may not sound easy but once we have mastered it, we will take full charge of our thinking, and we will become more mindful and alert.

  33. Ai Nin on Feb 9, 2015 at 12:57 am

Thank you Rinpoche for all the beautiful pictures and wishes. Guru wishes are all the students wish as well. May all the darkness become brighter and full of wisdom light!

  34. Denise Kuek on Feb 8, 2015 at 11:57 pm

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this. Guru devotion is the most important thing in our spiritual path, as our merits created in previous life we have the fortunate to meet our Guru in this life. Our Guru is the one give us compassion and bring us to attainment one day. We have no reason to abandon the practices that is given by our Guru. I hope Rinpoche’s request to HHDL for solving the Dorje Shugden issue will come very soon. Rinpoche shows his compassion to talk about this issue, as the more people investigate the ban, the quicken it can be solved. How lucky I have Tsem Rinpoche as my guru, I wish for Rinpoche’s long live.

  35. Pema Thinley on Feb 8, 2015 at 7:10 pm

    Dear Rinpoche,
Thank you so much for sharing such sincere prayers on behalf of numerous Shugden practitioners who are struggling with lots of shame and insecurity. May your prayers come true for the benefit of all beings, _/\_ Rinpoche

  36. Low KHJB on Feb 7, 2015 at 10:25 pm

Thank you Rinpoche for your sincere sharing.May your hopes and prayers for religious harmony for all the devoted Dorje Shugden practitioners come through in the near future.
When I read your plea for reconciliation for peaceful mitigation,I felt tears in my eyes as I felt the sincerity in your request.
I once read a quote by Dalai Lama saying that In order to settle any dispute there must be active Dialog.
May the Dalai Lama grant the practitioner of Dorje Shugden a chance to meet up in order to resolve the matter through positive active Dialog.
If one of the fundamental quality of an attained practitioner of Dharma is Compassion .Then they should value peace and harmony.Instead of hate and anger.
I might not be a attained practitioner of Dharma. But a common Malaysian that understand the value of Peace and Harmony within a multi racial and religious society .

  37. tsemtulku on Feb 7, 2015 at 7:12 pm

For me, I have received teachings from H.H. the Dalai Lama and I still have to respect him as one of my lamas. It might be different for some of you who have not. But my approach must be respectful. Even if I didn’t have teachings from H.H. the Dalai Lama, would still approach him in a respectful manner. The advice against Dorje Shugden practice by His Holiness is hurting many people in fact millions. It’s creating discord, segregation and pain. Everything the Dalai Lama teaches is about compassion, tolerance and reconciliation and the Shugden practitioners deserve that too. I therefore, respectfully prostrating to the ground would ask H.H. the Dalai Lama to please send his ministers to talk to the leaders of the Shugden group and resolve this issue. I say all this with deepest respects. As a part Tibetan, I also wish His Holiness the best. Long live the Dalai lama. Humbly, Tsem Rinpoche

Interesting biography of a great and influential Gelug religious lady……the Lady Lhalu Lhacham Yangdzom Tsering, who was one of the most popular and also an important aristocratic students of Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche. She was one of the influential Gelug religious figures in the Lhasa at that time. The Lhacham’s devotion to the controversial protector deity Dorje Shugden whose practice she received from Kyabje Phabongkha Rinpoche is beautifully reflected in her deep spiritual conviction in the very deities and practices. Interesting read of a GREAT spiritual lady of how she struggles in life and never gave up her commitments to her guru Kyabje Pabongka Dorjechang. Her dertermination, motivation and inspiration are indeed incredible .
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing of Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche and his yogini student, the Lady Lhalu.

Sakya Pandita is believed to have been an emanation of Manjushri and just like other great beings, when he was born, several auspicious signs appeared such as at the time of his birth, the sky was awash with a great light, a certain special physical marks on his body etc.

It is very impressive that he learned to read both Sanskrit and Tibetan scripts without being taught. On one incident, Shakyashri Bhadra was giving teachings in Sanskrit but Sakya Pandita was seen referring to a Tibetan text. Nevertheless, Sakya Pandita was still able to understand his guru’s teachings perfectly. Besides, During the 13-day debate between Sakya Pandita and Harinanda (the six non-Buddhist Indian pandits) and Harinanda could not win the argument. Finally, Harinanda said, “It is not you I cannot defeat, it is the orange being sitting above your right shoulder.” This showed that Sakya Panidita is no different from Manjushri.

Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor David for this meaningful post.

The Body of a Buddha: A Road Map to Liberation

In Buddhism, we often pray to the statues or representations of the Buddha. Many people said that we are idolistic but actually we are praying to the virtues and good quality that Buddha’s body represents. We do not pray to the statue just because it is in the form of a Buddha, we pray because we wish to achieve the same qualities of the body that manifested into these signs.

The Buddha’s body consists of 112 marks where 32 of them are major signs and 80 minor signs. Each and every one of these signs represent the virtues that Buddha had practised over 3 great aeons to achieve what he is today, enlightened.

Every single one of the signs is the guideline for us to practice. For example, the dharma wheel at the bottom of Buddha’s feet means that we should have the selfless attitude when we serve other and one of the best ways is to teach them Dharma. The Buddha has said, the best gift is the gift of Dharma.

Pabongka Rinpoche and his yogini student, the Lady Lhalu

Thank you, Rinpoche for sharing about this incredible lady with us. She is very inspiring and she showed us that with her unwavering guru devotion towards Kyabe Pabongkha Rinpoche bears fruit when she attained high attainments and stayed in Tukdam for 3 days when she passes away.

Lady Lhalu is incredible because being an aristocrat, she enjoyed a life of leisure. However, that did not deter her from a life of spirituality. She was one of Pabongkha Rinpoche’s main sponsor that time and she was the one who requested the teachings of the famous 24 days Lamrim teachings which proven to be very beneficial when Trijang Rinpoche compiled notes on the teachings and published them later as a book called Lamrim.

Until today, this book is still being used by Buddhist centres all over the world. Here in Kechara, we too used this book as the main reference in our Dharma classes and the profound teaching has benefited alot of people.

Read more about Lady Lhalu here:

Do you believe in reincarnation? Buddhists believe after people die, the consciousness will take rebirth again and again. The consciousness can take rebirth as a human, animal, ghost or god. It all depends on the karma. In the US, Dr. Brain Weiss, who is a prominent psychiatrist and a leading reincarnation researcher found pieces of evidence to prove reincarnation does exist.

The bigger the Buddha statue is, the better it is, because more beings can be blessed by seeing the Buddha statue. Not only that, dharma seeds will be planted in the mind of those who see the Buddha statue as well. It is said that a big outdoor Buddha statue can help to calm the surrounding environment and pacify natural disasters. We have some big outdoor statues in Malaysia too. If you have not heard of them, do read the article below to learn more.

Shocking to know the history of the American-Japanese during the WWII in 1942, where discrimination did happened at that time. The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people is really sad. Rinpoche did experienced the share of discrimination within the Kalmyk community in New Jersey years back. Looks like it happen every now and then in our society. Many thousands of Japanese Americans suffered badly , sent into interior camps, land, housing, businesses and lives were all taken away. Thanks to the photographer Paul Kitagaki Jr. who has been tracking down wartime pictures. Looking through pictures, paints a thousand words of sorrow, suffering those Japanese Americans had gone through. Even what they went through , they did not give up but made them stronger in fact to be what they are today. They were citizens of American yet it was an injustice to them. There are similarities happening to those who practiced Dorje Shugden. The practitioners were denied services to schools, medical treatment, hotel and so forth.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Seeing the Kechara flag in the pictures being flown are indeed wonderful. Flying with our country and state flags paints a thousand words of joy. Glad to come across this old post which explained the meaning behind it. Wow ….so it was designed by Rinpoche , have each stroke of wording and the white background representing the clear, luminous mind of enlightenment, of the state of peace and the state of happiness which we strive to achieve. Beautifully done.
Thank you Rinpoche for spending the explanation for the design of the flag which I did not know at all . i am glad i read this old post.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

His Holiness Sharpa Choje Rinpoche Jetsun Lobsang Nyima of Gaden Shartse Monastery. He was a supreme master of both Sutra and Tantra. He served as abbot of both Gaden Shartse Monastery as well as Gyuto Tantric college. After serving as abbot of Gyuto Tantric college he entered into a few long term (3 year, 3 month and 3 day) Vajra Yogini retreats in the forest. He completed that long retreat twice and was going to enter it again till he was asked to be abbot of Gaden Shartse Monastery by H.H. the Dalai Lama. He was a great practitioner of Vajra Yogini\'s tantra as well as Dorje Shugden. He was a scholar of the highest renown and he was highly sought after for teachings. My Nepalese boys work hard and I appreciate them. Today we have purchased special foods for them to snack on and also to cook with so they won\'t be so homesick. These foods are all imported from their country. There\'s a street in downtown K.L. that sell all this. So happy to get this for them. Tsem Rinpoche

  • If there were more schools like this, then our kids would grow up with more caring awareness and kind emotions towards our environment and the people around them. 1 years ago
What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
