Interesting to know the various breakfast around the world. I personally prefer breakfast that is simple and healthy. The Malaysia style a cup of Milo and bread. From the list above, I like Swedish breakfast simple and healthy. Notice that quite a few Asian countries have rice for breakfast. I think this is mainly due to the culture and lifestyle where many of them need a lot of energy in work to last them till lunch.

  2. Anne Ong on Sep 18, 2016 at 9:58 pm

Wow!!! So yummy and delicious looking breakfast! I really feel like eating all of them. Spoilt for a choice! Hehehe 🙂 .Anyway, i think these are the ones that is tempting me, 47. Bahamian Breakfast.32. Egyptian Breakfast.39. Korean Breakfast.30. Breakfast in Peru.4. Polish Breakfast.7. Hawaiian Breakfast. There goes my breakfast! Thank you very much Rinpoche 🙂

Yummy ! Delicious! But a second look says otherwise. Breakfast. the first meal to start our day, sets the tone of our mental attitude towards the rest of the day -peaceful or otherwise. Hence, it’s heartening to to see that in many countries, breakfast is peaceful non-harming breakfast – cereal, bread, scones, and the like.

Breakfast with ham and bacon and other meats means you start your day imbibing the negative energies from the animals killed for your food, and toxins as well as other chemicals. Most unhealthy as well as reinforcing negative energies.Collectively, the mind will have a tendency to stay unpeaceful.

The first thing this post made me think was, “So…basically…I can live pretty much anywhere in the world”. There wasn’t a single breakfast that made me think I would not be happy eating it…

…and then I remembered I was vegetarian. Someone should totally do a vegetarian version of this!

I’m going to go to bed tonight dreaming about the mangoes in the Filipino breakfast, the porridge from Vietnam and (sorry) the shrimp and grits from the Bahamas hehe I know the last one’s a bit naughty but the grits look like mashed potato and we all know how much I like mashed taters! 😉

  5. Carmen Lin @ KMP on Oct 29, 2013 at 7:21 pm

This is a post which you would not want to read or laid eyes upon when you are having a growling stomach, every picture looked so yum yum, mouth watering, I normally thinks that breakfast should be light and simple, but it seemed that I got it wrong. Most of the breakfast posted here are quite heavy. Yum yum. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this mouth watering post. Hehe…

  6. Vinnie Tan on Aug 14, 2013 at 11:52 pm

I realised that almost all the breakfast above included food that is starchy to make us feel full. Starchy food like bread, rice, noodles, fruits, potato, etc. I believe these items would give us the full feeling, but it might not be so healthy. It is said that with too much starchy food, it will cause us to be obese, and obesity would cause us to have many red lights with issues regarding our health.

  7. Lucas Roth on May 26, 2013 at 10:03 pm

actually there are so many different kinds of breakfasts here and they are all so unique. now i know how other people in other countries wake up and eat. and some of those looked very delicious and i wouldn’t mind having one… hehe

  8. Patrick on May 16, 2013 at 10:43 pm

The German breakfast is not really what we eat for breakfast here in Germany. We eat this (what you see on the picture) in the evening around 6 pm. Many Germans have no breakfast at all but if we do it´s eggs and buns with marmelade or honey. Having meat and sausage for breakfast is not normal here. =)

  9. edward ooi on Apr 14, 2013 at 1:02 pm

Dear Rinpoche, some breakfast are not vegetarian. I think the most unhealthy breakfast is number.5 Quick Spanish Breakfast because the whole dish is full with meat or steak. And the most healthy breakfast is number.7 Hawaiian Breakfast because the breakfast is covered with different types of fruits. I wish I could have the chance to eat Hawaiian breakfast.

  10. Adrian Cho on Mar 19, 2013 at 9:34 pm

This is very interesting and wondeful, that we can knows which type of each country breakfast 🙂 It is so yummy and delicious. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this nice post.

  11. sarahyap on Feb 4, 2013 at 4:19 pm

Wow… certainly a huge variety of breakfast from all around the world… but I thought Malaysia will be Nasi Lemak or Roti Canai haha…

When I reached to the point of Japanese Breakfast, the image is a tofu lol!!! It’s so funny because most of the breakfasts in other countries are so filling… take for example the Polish Breakfast.. oh my there’s so much to eat for one serving!

Another one that cracked me ups is the Australian Breakfast lol! Though I highly doubt all they have in the morning is one piece of toast with butter!

  12. Paris on Feb 2, 2013 at 4:25 pm

Hehe I love this post! A greedo like me definitely always loves looking at pictures of food!! (even if I can’t eat half of it since I’m vegetarian).

It’s interesting though how much emphasis we place on getting to eat different kinds of foods. As I looked through these pictures I’m reminded of something Rinpoche once said about how nothing is really new in samsara – that every new and interesting meal that we go to great distances to eat is really just the same sorts of ingredients cooked in a different way. At the end of the day, when you come down to the essence of it all, it’s all still just meat, bread, potatoes and vegetables! LOL so many of the pictures above kind of feature the same sorts of foods, just cooked up in different ways – bread, eggs, some meats, cheese etc…

Having said that of course, I really wouldn’t say no to someone inviting me out for a big slap up breakfast!!

  13. Andrew Boon on Jan 19, 2013 at 12:13 pm

Oh my… what a variety of of choices… Breakfast is an important as it is the first meal one takes which should provide the nutrients and energy that one needs for the day.

What is interesting is how varied the choices are according to one’s geographical location using the local produce. All provide the necessary boost for the body to kick start the day!

Ever thought breakfast was boring… well not anymore!!!

  14. pavara on Jan 18, 2013 at 11:31 pm

some of these breakfast are not vegetarian.its amazing we managed to get malaysian breakfast normally in malaysia we eat nasi lemak.for everyone’s information french people like to dip their croissant in their coffee or their hot chocolate.most of them look delicious.it would be good for SengPiow to learn how to make a french breakfast it would be nice.breakfast in Peru seems like dinner.

  15. Girlie Ooi on Dec 15, 2012 at 12:50 pm

Some of the breakfast servings are so heavy — the one from Iran is more than enough to cover breakfast, lunch, tea, dinner and supper! I miss nasi lemak.

The healthiest must be the one from Iceland.

  16. Milly on Dec 13, 2012 at 8:01 pm

Some of the meals are so “heavy”. Can be for lunch or dinner. I personally like oats, bread, sandwiches for breakfast. At one time, I was taking seabird’s nest with oats, raisins and flax seeds for breakfast. Its healthy and doesn’t make us feel lethargic and sleepy which happens if we take too much carbohydrates.

  17. Girlie Ooi on Nov 20, 2012 at 12:49 am

Breakfast need not be a grand affair. My breakfast is simply a cup of my favorite beverage plus some cookies. Looking at the pictures above, one would think that breakfast is some countries is such a grand affair.

  18. Mayy on Nov 17, 2012 at 1:01 pm

My breakfast will be the simple bread with butter and jam along with a cup of Milo. At times, will be a simple nasi lemak or a plate of fried mee to start the day.

  19. nicholas on Jun 15, 2012 at 10:52 am

Thanks Rinpoche for sharing this. What a variety of breakfast we have here.

My all time favorite breakfast are English and Australian.Just like it, simple and nice with a cup of Coffee. This just start up my day.

  20. Han on Jun 15, 2012 at 9:58 am

Even breakfasts have so many styles and varieties, for chinese, I quite like to take porridge as my breakfast, its kind of memory to me, mum used to cook Teowchew porridge for us…..

Thanks Rinpoche for sharing this interesting post!

You are what you eat.. and I love the hawaiian breakfast.

  23. Wan Wai Meng on Jan 4, 2012 at 10:30 pm

The breakfast in Peru looks very exotic I cant even begin to guess what it is.

Food of a particular region is good for the people of inhabiting that region, in the sense that people who have lived most of their lives in one particular area are eating food sources available in those areas.
And the people there have been eating them for generations and generations.
So traditional foods in those area would suit best the people who originate from the same area. There are exceptions though, for example the people of a particular region eats a lot of rice as a lot of them were farmers, as modernisation forces us to trade in their farming tools for pens and deskjobs then eating so much rice may not be good for them anymore as they do not work out enough to burn up the calories.

  24. freon on Jan 4, 2012 at 8:24 pm

To me, breakfast is the most most important meal in a day. I like my breakfast to be a full filling one. This blog post, is so ‘delicious’. And, is a good knowledge for how others people eat. Interesting!

  25. Antoinette on Dec 31, 2011 at 3:59 pm

I would take the Hawaiian right now 🙂

  26. Cynthia L on Dec 30, 2011 at 11:53 pm

Zasep Tulku Rinpoche a respected, courage, highly attained Lama and a well known dedicated and devoted Dorje Shugden practitioner . Having a strong guru devotion , courage ,great teaching abilities, he is truly a Great Lama who has uphold the lineage and be of benefit to others. He is admired by many for his courage speaking against the odds and defending about Dorje Shugden practice. He speaks the truth of the practice , the preservation of the Gelug lineage and Tibetan Buddhism. Zasep Rinpoche also acknowledges that the Shugden controversy was orchestrated by the Tibetan Leadership to deflect attention from their incompetence. Dorje Shugden has been practiced for centuries by many high lamas. He even said that it was Dorje Shugden that has exhorted the Dalai Lama to flee Tibet.
In his autobiography,… A Tulku’s Journey From Tibet To Canada tells us a thousand words his account and experience as a refugee. He was forced to flee his invaded country, on a desperate journey to refugee status in Nepal, travelling through a number of countries and finally, citizenship in Canada. The book gives readers an intimate look into the life of one of the remaining Tibetan born and trained masters. A definite good book to catch hold as its contain all of the elements of a great spiritual bio. He continues to share precious knowledge through an expanding of books, which is available in many countries.
Thank you Rinpoche for this wonderful sharing.

A dog, cat, bird or any animal you bring home is not a pet. You may think of them as so, but they don’t think that way about themselves. To them you are their hope, love, family and safety. If you cannot take care of them, don’t get them in… the first place. Just like any family member when young, they are cute and cuddly, but as they grow, they become adults. You don’t get rid of a family member when they are not cute and cuddly anymore do you? All animals have feelings of pain, sorrow, joy, love, fear and security just like us. Don’t cause them any pain or anxiety. They need us as we need them.

They are not a commodity, toy, entertainment, punching bag or some fixture to abuse or get rid of when we don’t want them anymore. Think how you would feel if you were them and you were dumped somewhere? Imagine if you are just something to be eliminated when your not cuddly and cute anymore or just ‘get in the way?’ Be kind to animals especially the ones you bring home and cuddle and love when they are babies. You are their world and the only world they have in their restricted lives. Remember we took them from their mothers, families and separated them from their siblings when very young and environments and forced them into our environments. We owe them some loyalty.

On a visit to the Modisa Wildlife Project near Maun, Botswana, traveller John Hawkins captured this heartwarming footage that shows the incredible bond between a lioness and her rescuer. In the video, Sirga can be seen eagerly pacing back and forth behind a fence as the man, Valentin Gruener, unlocks the gate. Once the gate is opened, the 110-pound lioness jumps onto Gruener—for a cuddly, full-body embrace! Sirga clearly displays her affection for the man, rubbing noses with him during the hug and even laying across his lap on the ground. What an amazing friendship!

Thank you for the sharing the mystery of the sailing stone. Actually we need to thank the mother earth for creating all the wonders and miracles. Making scientists puzzled in their research and a loss to explain how or why rocks appear to move around by themselves.

It is very interesting and sound crazy. I never heard of this phenomenon before, but those photos made me google for further information.. I really hope to get here one day just to feel the extraordinary scenery and to witness the incredible phenomenon. Enjoyed the article and the photos.

Released in 2005, EARTHLINGS premiered at the Artivist Film Festival and won the Best Documentary Feature. It then went on to win the Best Content Award and Best Documentary Film at the Boston International Film Festival and the San Diego Film Festival respectively.

What is this video that made such an impact on these renowned film recognition boards?

The 95-minute documentary was inspired by Shaun Monson. He’s a writer, producer and director who had previous shot footage of animal shelters within Los Angeles. He did it to produce a series of public service announcements… however, what he saw had such a profound effect on him that he decided to produce what became known as Earthlings.

Worldcrunch reports a historic change in Palitana, an Indian city, which has become the first all-vegetarian city in the world.

Behind this revolutionary change are the Jain monks who went on a hunger strike to pressure the state of Gujarat to outlaw animal slaughter in their city. The hunger strike was successful and the Gujarat government imposed a ban on animal slaughter and outlawed the sale of meat and eggs.

About 5 million people in India practice Jainism and agree with the ban.

Virat Sagar Maharaj, a Jain monk, says, “Everyone in this world – whether animal or human being or a very small creature – has all been given the right to live by God.”

These monks who built the temple has a really good motivation to use the glass bottles as the building material. We are generating a lot of rubbish every day but we have not thought where the rubbish will end up.

Most of the rubbish we generated goes to the landfill. Some end up in the oceans. Either way, the rubbish has destroyed our environment and lives, including our health.

These monks show us how to make rubbish into something useful. It is also a good lesson to teach us we have to care more about our environment.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Young people who torture and kill animals are prone to violence against people later in life if it goes unchecked, studies have shown. A new federal category for animal cruelty crimes will help root out those pet abusers before their behavior worsens and give a boost to prosecutions, an animal welfare group says.

For years, the FBI has filed animal abuse under the label “other” along with a variety of lesser crimes, making cruelty hard to find, hard to count and hard to track. The bureau announced this month that it would make animal cruelty a Group A felony with its own category – the same way crimes like homicide, arson and assault are listed.

“It will help get better sentences, sway juries and make for better plea bargains,” said Madeline Bernstein, president and CEO of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles and a former New York prosecutor.

Jessie Earhart had been saving up for a new car when a chance encounter with an abandoned dog changed her plans completely. The kindhearted girl, just 15-years-old, asked her mom to stop when she discovered a discarded dog running along a road. When the teen approached the severely injured pup, the dog now known as Lilly, immediately ran into the girl’s arms nuzzling her head into her arms in relief.

An animal control officer took Lilly away to a veterinarian for her facial injuries — believed to have been caused by someone who used an ax to strike her face. Lilly’s medical bills piled up and she faced euthanasia. When the teen found out, she offered up the $400 she had been saving to buy a car to help pay the veterinary expenses and decided to adopt the dog herself.

The teen has no regrets and admits the right car will be there a year from now, but the dog’s life needed to be saved now. Wait until you see how happy Lilly is today — all thanks to one very incredible teen.

Please take a look at these beautiful images of animals rearing their young in the wild. Their love, gentleness and care towards the young is so amazing. So touching. Each photo captured the beauty of the unbreakable bond between a parent and their child. If you’re a parent, you’ll surely appreciate this.

Never hurt animals. Never kill them. Never eat them. Let them be in peace and have happy lives. They have every right to live and without fear just like us. We should always protect their environments also.

Not eating animals is not necessarily a choice for the religious, but a choice of conscience and caring for the environment. Animal farming is contributing very much to the greenhouse effect destroying our atmosphere. Do not contribute to animals being beaten, tied, slaughtered and killed just for us to taste something ‘good’. Fried blood and cooked flesh are not good because it caused pain. Go visit the slaughterhouse weekly. Important. No matter what others say, we must have some principles and not ‘fail’ in everything using others as an excuse. Always be firm in our convictions. I mean principles that protect others from pain. If we are vegetarian, remain so. If we are considering, then research more on the benefits for ourselves, the environment, our planet, our children and the animals. Be firm in helping others and our planet.

It seems that humans aren’t the only ones who need forgiveness.
Bizarre footage has surfaced of a fugitive pig grovelling in front of a temple in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province on Tuesday.
Pictures and video of the bowing boar, which had escaped from a nearby farm, have spread like wildfire on Chinese social media, sparking a flurry of debates over what the animal was doing, reports Sina.
Footage shows the animal kneeling on its forelimbs encircled by worshippers, as a Buddhist ceremony takes place inside the temple.
The saintly swine reportedly stayed put for hours, and only left the scene after a group of monks emerged from inside and chanted a Buddhist scripture towards it.

In S.E Asia, they are still boiling alive, cats and dogs. UN Secretary – General Ban Ki Moon states “We must not fail the billions who look to the international community to fulfill the promise of the Millennium Declaration for a better world.”

A better world? – To create this, stop Chinese and Koreans from deliberatly torturing animals for Dog Torture Soup! The torture for satisfaction, food and money. It is all on the black market. That is very very very bad.

The Koreans love Dog Torture Soup. Dog torture soup does not belong in a world that recognizes the UN Millennium Goals. Dog torture soup was developed 2,000 years ago by a sick society based in fear, bitterness, anger and resentment. The old resentment is so ingrained now, and projected onto the dogs. We have all seen the photos of dogs boiling alive.

Dogs and cats DO NOT DESERVE the heinous crime of such a painful death. I have burnt myself with boiling water and it REALLY HURTS. Imagine being being boiled alive!!

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
