Recipe: Bone Nourishing Soup
Dear students and friends,
I would like to share with everyone another great recipe that Mrs Chuah (fondly known as Madam Chuah) taught the Ladrang kitchen to make. It is a bone nourishing and strengthening soup which Mdm Chuah kindly offered to Paul and I when she found out that we both have back pains related to the bone.
How kind… I thought that I’d share the recipe here for everyone to learn. It is a very easy and simple recipe, and yet very nutritious for both you and your family members to keep your bodies strong and healthy.
There is also a short “How-To” video below. Do leave a thank you note to Mdm Chuah for her kindness in teaching us this recipe. She has many other wonderful recipes that I have previously shared on the blog. Do take a look and try them out!

Dear Rinpoche
This is a very good soup.
The best part of this soup is, this soup helps nourishing our bone and it is not using any animal bone.
I always heard that to treat bone diseases, need to use animal to boil soup, seem this is not real.
Mrs Chuah is always kind to give food to us. She always cook delicious and yet nutrition dishes for us in Kechara House. I thank you Mrs Chuah for her kindness.
Thank you Rinpoche.
With folded hand,
Freon
I must really ask my mum to try this bone nourishing soup! Me and my whole family are true believers in chinese herbs from my late beloved granny, and we find chinese herbs are very beneficial and effective. Thank you very much Rinpoche and Mrs Chuah for sharing this soup recipe.
Thank you so much for sharing this, but my question is do you just drink the broth and discard the ingredients, like how would you serve it?
Hi Grace, thanks for your question. In general, we serve this soup with all of the ingredients in it (though if you’re picky like me, you’ll take only the liquid and not what other people consider the goodies inside haha). What is edible and pretty tasty are the Chinese black dates and the goji berry. I wouldn’t recommend eating the du zhong / chuan gong unless you like woody bits of herb in your mouth. If you’re interested in more tasty and healthy recipes, I would recommend you check out this link too: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/animals-vegetarianism/dr-jiangs-delicious-healthy-recipesvideos.html

I am not sure why many people get back aches nowadays, including myself. It could be due to the way we sit or the hardness of the chair or cushion or the way we walk or stand.
