Incredible Loyalty! Must share!!
Dear students and friends,
I was sent this article which is very inspirational and touching, so I thought I’d share this with all of you. Capitan, a German Shephard is now one of Argentina’s most famous dog as he loyally stood by his owner’s grave for over 6 years! Miguel Guzman, the deceased owner, got Capitan as a gift from his 13 year old son about a year before his sudden death in 2006. When Capitan was found missing after Miguel’s death, the Guzman’s thought he was lost and has died too… but to their surprise, they found him at the very same cemetery Miguel was buried in when they went for his memorial service a week later. The family never brought Capitan to the cemetery before and yet he managed to find the grave of his friend, Miguel!!
I like reading and sharing stories like this with everyone because it is very inspiring. Loyalty and sincerity are traits that I admire and like the most. I have always loved animals ever since I was young, they hold a special place in my heart. Animals have emotions just like humans, always be kind to them..
Never harm animals and be vegetarian please.

Loyal dog guards his owner’s grave for 6 years
An extremely dedicated dog has continued to show its loyalty, keeping watch on its owner’s grave six years after he passed away.
Capitan, a German shepherd, reportedly ran away from home after its owner, Miguel Guzman, died in 2006. A week later, the Guzman family found the dog sitting by his grave in central Argentina.
Miguel Guzman adopted Capitan in 2005 as a gift for his teenage son, Damian. And for the past six years, Capitan has continued to stand guard at Miguel’s grave. The family says the dog rarely leaves the site.
“We searched for him, but he had vanished,” widow Veronica Guzman told LaVoz.com. “We thought he must have got run over and died.
‘The following Sunday we went to the cemetery, and Damian recognized his pet. Capitan came up to us, barking and wailing as if he were crying.”
Adding to the unusual circumstances, Veronica says the family never brought Capitan to the cemetery before he was discovered there.
“It is a mystery how he managed to find the place,” she said.
Cemetery director Hector Baccega says he and his staff have begun feeding and taking care of Capitan.
“He turned up here one day, all on his own, and started wandering all around the cemetery until he eventually found the tomb of his master,” Baccega said.
“During the day he sometimes has a walk around the cemetery, but always rushes back to the grave. And every day, at six o’clock sharp, he lies down on top of the grave, stays there all night.”
But the Guzman family hasn’t abandoned Capitan. Damian says the family has tried to bring Capitan home several times but that he always returns to the cemetery on his own.
“I think he’s going to be there until he dies, too. He’s looking after my dad,” he said.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article of such an inspiring dog. Sometimes animals are more loyal than humans. They are very sincere. If their owner treats them well then the pet will protect and care for his/her owner. It is so touching to see that Capitan takes care of his owner’s grave for 6 years. This is really something that we as a human must learn from the animals.

Beautiful story of this a lovable dog named Capitan.Capitan searched for his master’s grave until he found it..that is incredible. So loyal to his owner even after of his passing Capitan keep guilding the owner’s cemetary for 6 years. What a wonderful loyal doggie.Eternal friendship and loyalty never departs between the owner and this loyal doggie.
That’s what we called …A man best friends is his doogie.
Animals have feelings, emotions just like us,always be kind to them..
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this wonderful post and those beautiful pictures.
It is amazing that Capitan found the grave of his friend Miguel on his own and rarely leave it. He watches over the grave through the night. What an loyal friend who does not want to leave his friend even after the family tried to bring him back home.
Wow! How could the dog possibly find the grave?
We should never harm animals as they have feeling like we have and are extremely loyal.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing. Every time I read story of incredible loyalty shown by animals, I’d be marvelled at how more faithful, loyal, humane and selfless they are compared to us. Captain put us to shame. Many of us cannot even be faithful and loyal to the person sharing the same bed, let alone a dead someone… for six years! May we be inspired to be loyal and faithful to people who matter to us and who had benefitted, like our guru and our parents.
狗狗真的是最忠诚的,你怎样打它骂它,它还是对你摇尾巴,还是接近你。曾经看过一段新闻就是养主把自己养了一年多的狗狗杀了请朋友一起享用。如此残忍我心里就一直不能释怀。
Dear Rinpoche,
This story may have been short but to me just seeing the pictures was enough for me to know that this story that Rinpoche has kindly shared to all of us.
It is just wonderful how loyal dogs can be even after their master has passed on!
I am amazed how through thick and thin Captain has been guarding his masters grave for 6 very long years.
This story also reminds me of another very touching yet true story called Hachiko, it totally relates how fateful Hachiko was to wait at the train station everyday to accompany his master home.
There is no reason why nobody should know about both dogs because even though they are just dogs what they have done is something that millions and millions of humans lack…. Loyalty.
This story of Captain as well as the story of Hachiko is a must for the whole world to know about and follow the footsteps of both the great examples.
Even though they are not humans their act of kindness has proven to the world that not just humans have a heart and soul but also all kinds of animals from dogs to elephants and even down to smaller animals.
In my point of view This story as well as Hachiko’s story also indirectly relates to going vegetarian because both dogs are spreading a voice out there to humans that all kinds of animals have a heart and soul and killing them just for their fur or meat would really be like getting shot when you are only a kid would means that one did not get to live a good “full” life in a very precious human rebirth.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this heartwarming story to me.
Rest Well

What a beautiful story and really inspired me and touched my heart.
Thank You for sharing this beautiful story.
What a beautiful story, and proof, as ever before that animals have an extremely high intelligent and EQ that is so much harder to find in humans. I think that something wonderful about animals is their ability to remember gratitude towards the beings who care for them and love them, so that whatever happens, they remember your care always and remain forever loyal. They forget much less easily than we do; humans are far more easily distracted. Someone could be wonderful to us our entire lives, but the moment they do one bad thing (or what we perceive as being bad), everything else is forgotten and the one bad thing overrides everything else for us.
Animals, like Capitan, show us what it means to really have gratitude and to focus on what has been important. They show us what it means not to have grudges, in such a natural and instinctual way, but instead, to direct that emotion of “holding on” towards a more loving, caring, loyal energy. There’s much to learn in that natural and spontaneous empathy and care that animals have and can maintain their entire lives.
Yes it’s true that dogs are a man’s best friend, man would not have come up with such a phrase simple. It is definitely the quality of dogs in general and we all the biggest quality they have is their loyalty. In fact a dog’s loyalty to their owners are so strong like Capitan and Hachiko http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/film-tv-music/hachiko-a-lesson-in-eternal-friendship-loyalty.html surpasses the loyalty of humans and their partners. We certainly can learn a thing or two from them.
Actually I find dogs the most compassionate, patient creatures on this planet, you can scream at them, some even hit and abuse them, yet no matter what, if you are their owner, they will always still forgive you and come to you for affection. We humans sometimes cannot even forgive each other just cause someone said something offensive to us. So to me a dog is really truly a man’s best friend and we as the so called more “intelligent” strong beings should always protect them with all our might. Sometime we don’t deserve them but they definitely deserve our care and protection.
Dogs are really Loyal to his own master. Touching story that’s touch my heart deeply. 🙂
Thank You Rinpoche for sharing to us.

Dogs in general are very loyal and have emotional feelings like humans. They are helpless and depends on our kindness to take good care of them. Dogs have always been man’s best friend. Capitan and Hachiko are good examples of their extreme loyalty towards their masters. Perhaps they had strong karmic connection with each other in the previous lives?
wow capitan is such a loyal and smart dog. i wish i could have a dog like him. i really hope capitan has a long life and is always as loyal as he is now because dogs like this only come around once in a lifetime.
A lot of people said that dogs can recognize their owner even after few years of not seeing each other. It is wonderful that dogs can even find and guard their owner’s grave. One of the things that i love about dogs is they have great loyalty that can take care of people. I LOVE IT!
It’s such a heartwarming article. It’s almost like the movie called ‘Hachiko’. This shows how much loyalty Capitan has towards his master. This is an amazing quality in dogs which i don’t think every human being has it. Dogs r really man’s best friend. Thank You for sharing this wonderful article Rinpoche.
Love,

I like dogs a lot but I can’t have one at the moment. My kids bug me every time they see dogs. I used to have dogs when I was young but they are not around anymore. They are very loving, loyal and playful animals and they are super smart too! I remember coming home exhausted and my dog is there to greet and play with me. Miss those times.
Capitan is an example of the qualities I mentioned above. Loving and loyal even after the owner have passed away. And the fact that he went around looking for the owner was amazing.
This story is very touching Rinpoche. Its just like that movie “Hachiko”. That’s an amazing story and i love how it shows how loyal a dog can be. And i too agree with Rinpoche, nobody should ever harm animals and everybody should try their best to be vegetarian.
And i found it very interesting that even though the dog had never been to the cemetery which the owner had been buried in. It still out in all the effort to find the cemetery. I love dogs. They are truly mans best friend.
I was always very fond of small animals like rabbits and hamsters. Now, I am very inspired to adopt a dog as a companion especially after reading all the amazing stories posted here on Rinpoche’s blog. Thank you, Rinpoche.
Humans mourn their deceased loved ones and move on after awhile because people become busy with their own lives. We forget. That is not necessarily a bad thing. But to some pet dogs like Capitan, his master was the be all and end all. So complete is Capitan’s dedication and loyalty. It is admirable. Often, we see an animal behave a lot more honorably than human beings. Always, we see animals showing sincerity at the level few human beings understand.
It is surprising that Capitan did not share that much time with his master and yet such a strong and permanent bond was forged. I hope they find each other again in their future lives.
It’s really heart touching. The loyalty from a dog even after the owner passed away never fade. If dog able to have such a great and sincere quality we as human who are able to think consciously should even hold this quality deep into our heart for the person that being kind, compassion and truly sincerely care for us.
Always inspire me everytime come across such story or news.
Rinpoche always promotes the virtues of loyal animals and humans and it is certainly something worthwhile for us to aspire to be such exemplaries of loyalty. look at the students of teachers and lamas who have reached the greatest of spiritual attainments by sticking with their lamas all the way.
Yes, it’s so heart warming and heart breaking at the same time.
We all admire and love this kind of story because we see loyalty and sincerity. And we learn that it’s these qualities that earn one respect and love. I guess most if not all love the quality of loyalty but at the same time hard to live up the spirit of it in ourself.
Miguel must be a very good person that has the privilege to have Captain loves him this way.
It is so touching to see an animal can be so loyal to his human friend even after his owner passed away, they must have been very very closed in their previous lives.
This is really touching and inspiritional, showing deep sincerity and loyalty beyond belief by a dog! From studies carried out, it seems that dogs do have personality triats i.e. meaning more specially, behaviour identified with affection. Dogs are attuned to the nature of humans, and understand the best ways to live with/or guard them. Throughout history, the dog has always been known as the man’s best friend. The dog always acts like a protector and guardian, serving selflessly and never asking for their services to be praised. They hold energies of unconditional love, and teaches us its “true meaning” as in this case!! Thank you for the sharing Rinpoche.
Ohhhhhhhhhhh it is so heart warming and heart breking at the same time 🙁 Another Hachiko. Capitan is truly an amazing and loyalty friend of his owner. The uncondition love from pure heart not even human can do that. Salute to Capitan.
I’m so touched by the loyalty of this dog. It’s so hard to find loyalty these days among human beings. This beautiful dog show what human should all learn to do. Never hurt animals for they can give us so much love and ask for nothing in return.
This is an amazing story for me as Capitan can find its own owner even though he has never been led there. Well, I guess nobody can explain this except Capitan himself.
Being a German Shepherd, perhaps we can attribute this to his sharp nose. But then, again, maybe there are other reasons for this.
I wonder if Capitan knows that his owner has passed on and if yes, if he is feeling sad about this. Or, maybe Capitan thought that his owner has simply shifted his dwellings.
Maybe 6pm is the time that both Guzman and Capitan meet? If yes, then I feel much better.
While they are now physically apart, I hope that spiritually they are still together until Capitan meets its last day. It is heart-breaking to know that the one whom you love has left you…
Lovely Capitan…
Such similiarity with Hachiko dog in Japan. Dogs can be our teachers to how one can have such good quality like loyalty and love in this case. We should not regard them as animals yet they have shown qualities that we as human are lack of. Inspiring!

Captain is a loyal and handsome dog. He like a strong man, want to accompany his owner no matter where it he going. He is the best for his owner.
Captain’s story really inspired me and touched my heart. Look at him, my thinking is if I got a good friend like Captain, how lucky am I?
Captain’s loyalty also remind me, always must remember people who kind t me. Thank you Captain, you are my HERO!
Capitan reminds me of Hachiko. Both have the same loyalty for their masters even after their Masters had passed away!
Such pure devotion. Only a dog will give unconditional love, and that even after his master has passed on.
Capitan is really another Hachiko, the loyalty both of them show is really touching. Capitan loyalty is really amazing, even the owner pass away, and he was not even at the cemetery, but still he can find his way and found his Master grave, that is something really amazing.
Capitan is such a beautiful and wonderful German Shepard. His loyalty is something that we human lacks, and it is something we must learn and follow.
Thank You Rinpoche for sharing this beautiful story. Wish Rinpoche Great health. 🙂
