High Lama, we usually associate that title with someone who sits on the throne, wears silk brocade robes, and receives offerings. But His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche chooses to get off the throne onto the contruction site of the temple of Kechara, to personally supervise and give advice at dangerous, dusty, messy place like that, because HE CARES. His Eminence puts into practice what he teaches on the throne.

Tsem Rinpoche was one special Lama who had conceptualizes and built Kechara Forest retreat from scratch to where it was today. Rinpoche cares more for all sentient beings than himself. Rinpoche went all the way out to see the constructions work and get things done nor matter it’s a sunny day or raining day.
Thank you Rinpoche with folded hands and Pastor Seng Piow for this sharing with great memories pictures of Rinpoche at the construction sites.

Thank you Pastor Loh Seng Piow for the sharing. Thank you Rinpoche for your kindness for teaching us Buddhadharma as well as building the Kechara Forest Retreat to benefit many sentient beings.

Rinpoche always keeps to his words and syncs his words with his actions all the time. That is why many people believe and have faith with Lama. It is like Shakyamuni showing an example for all his students on how to conduct themselves.

  5. Albert Ratchaga on Jun 25, 2013 at 3:28 am

Tsem Rinpoche is a leader of example, he does not only give instruction, but he also make his hand dirty by involving physically in the work.

Despite with so many things he need to do, he will never sit on throne and ask the people around him to work and he just sit there, Rinpoche can never bear to see people work and he’s not, his only motive in this life is to spread Dharma, so whenever people around him are working hard, he will put in extra effort to make sure himself shown as example, never in one moment Rinpoche think about benefiting himself or self enjoyment, as long as there are people suffered, Rinpoche can;t even sleep at night. read this article to see how Rinpoche involve in the construction personally, Even the construction is handled by his students, but Rinpoche will always make sure everything is alright and his students are working in a safe environment. Rinpoche’s care and kindness are just incomparable.

Rinpoche is not only just leader of example, he is also a person of detailed and sensitive. Rinpoche is always very sensitive of what other people need and he’ll try to fulfill them so they can work with the least hassle / hassle free.

Thank you Rinpoche for always taking care of us, Rinpoche had created a place (KFR) for us and yet, Rinpoche will still always make sure this project is doing on it’s best. Thank you Rinpoche

  6. Lucas Roth on Jun 22, 2013 at 1:40 pm

Rinpoche is such a kind and caring man. he himself, a very high lama, would personally supervise the construction so that everything is okay and everyone is okay. i hope construction goes well too.

  7. Cliff on Jun 15, 2013 at 3:45 pm

Rinpoche is incredible, he is so humble, meticulous, compassionate and so much more, he has the sharpest mind i have ever known. Kechara Forest Retreat is very dear to Rinpoche and cares a lot about it wants to see things through that it is done right. Rinpoche not only cares about the construction work but also for the construction workers. Rinpoche could be meditating, going into retreat and pray but Rinpoche is there in the sun and mud working hard for Kechara Forest Retreat. Rinpoche truly believes the benefit KFR can bring to not only Malaysia but for everyone, because Rinpoche cares a lot. Rinpoche brings traditional Buddhism to the modern world and is doing an inspirational job for everyone to want to follow. Thank you for your hard work Rinpoche, I hope you are well rested and in good health.

  8. Felix Kong on Jun 10, 2013 at 9:19 pm

To build Kechara Forest Retreat (KFR) , can be benefit more and more peoples .Rinpoche is so humble ,oversees and give instruction under hot sun to make sure everyone is safe. We are so fortunate that have care from Rinpoche , I’m very appreciate and thank you very much Rinpoche .

  9. HelenaC on Jun 10, 2013 at 12:01 pm

A High Lama in a muddy, dusty and dangerous construction land , I would say Rinpoche’s loves and cares alot no matter to his students, the workers and the stray animals in the land. Many of us will not willingly do whatever Rinpoche is doing, It is because we always think that we are all so high up, we should not dirty our hands under the hot sun and it is not our work! Well Rinpoche is a good mentor and example for us. The care and compassion that Rinpoche has shown us is really inspiring!
We are all human and we are all equally the same, why are we putting ourselves so high up, it is all about our ego because we think this kinda dirty work it has to be done by foreign workers! Wrong wrong mind set. Together we can do it and speed up the progress of manifesting Kechara Forest Retreat to benefits many. In the other hands when the construction workers sees the team work of Kecharian, they will inspired and do work faster too and we can make them feel that we are together working and not just them.
Thank you Rinpoche for your tireless love and care.

Appreciated with love and folded hands.

  10. Carmen K on Jun 8, 2013 at 1:46 am

When the initial concept of Kechara Forest Retreat was discussed, Rinpoche was there in the midst of the meetings. When it came to finding the right land and location, Rinpoche was involved. When the land was acquired and initial pujas and land offerings were to be done, Rinpoche was doing it. Rinpoche was organizing picnics on the land, then when it came to the first cabins being installed, Rinpoche was on site and lived in the cabins with some of the staffs to oversee the development and construction work. When the Ladrang, Manjushri Hill, Meditation Hall, Dukkar apartments, Ajai’s house was/is all being built, Rinpoche has been and is still there.

From the very beginning Rinpoche has been there, committed, and very involved, getting stuck in mud, feeding workers and volunteers, digging through mud, trees, disassembling tents etc etc. and if we think about it, Kechara Forest Retreat is a GIFT to us, not our gift to Rinpoche because Rinpoche doesn’t need it but we do.

Rinpoche practises everything he teaches – he has always maintained that everyone, even the leaders, has to get their hands dirty. Rinpoche sure has inspired all of us to follow suit.

  11. Soon Huat on Jun 6, 2013 at 9:29 pm

Thanks Rinpoche for all the guidance and help. I am reading the Promise Book now. I do not know what to say, it seems like I am getting to know Rinpoche better by reading the information of his previous life. We should follow Rinpoche’s guidance closely this life. My deareast Rinpoche, hope to meet you one day in close distance one day

  12. Thierry on Jun 6, 2013 at 3:17 pm

Rinpoche cares, this is why Rinpoche walks the talk, because he cares for others. And we all are the others, all of us.
Rinpoche leads by example, because he cares, not because he needs sonething from others, but because he cares.
Rinpoche makes time for others, even if Rinpoche is exhausted physically, because he cares, because others are more important to Rinpoche than being comfortable.
Rinpoche always give, not because he wants people to like him, but because he cares, and so Rinpoche gives because others need it.

  13. Lim Han Nee on Jun 5, 2013 at 2:59 pm

Rinpoche is rare even for a Lama of these modern times. He walks the talk in every way.He shows his care in every way, directly and indirectly. He shows, by fine example, how we should be part of the process of building Kechara Forest Retreat.

Ever since Kechara Forest Retreat started to take off, he has been on the spot, especially, when the construction works began to be seriously undertaken. If we go to KFR now, we see that Rinpoche is roughing it out in a still raw environment, fraught with all kinds of dangers and hazards. He is on the spot to check the work in progress. When danger threatens, he stops the building immediately. That was why he called a halt to the building of the fish pond, just before the collapse of the waterfall feature.

    Thank you Rinpoche.

  14. MartinC on Jun 5, 2013 at 6:57 am

I think Seng Piow said it best a while ago and its worth repeating. In tradition it is the students who should build for the lama to stay so that all the lama need to do is focus on the Dharma. But Tsem Rinpoche not only has to teach the Dharma, nurture the students, and often train each one individually not to mention solve personal problems, Rinpoche also conceptualizes and builds KFR.

In the earlier days the terrain was quite unfriendly but it did not deter Rinpoche from checking out just about every square inch of KFR, hills included, to work out what is best to be done and where.Where the Meditation Hall is being constructed, Rinpoche once became stuck knee-high in mud as he did his rounds supervising the land preparation. In fact one side of Rinpoche’s shoes is still buried there which is extremely auspicious.

Many might also remember Rinpoche personally choosing and overseeing the construction of Ajai’s home. Ajai is the a foreign worker who works very hard on KFR.

We should always remember why Rinpoche does all these things when he is in fact revered as a king in the monasteries. It will be many aeons before any of us will have another opportunity to be a student to such a lama, if we don’t grab this chance now.

  15. beatrix ooi on Jun 5, 2013 at 1:29 am

For other Lamas, they should be sitting on their thrones and give instructions to the disciples, but our Rinpoche is that kind of Lama who will get His own hands dirty and put things into action. We actually should be ashamed that we are not doing what we should do as Kecharians and eventually the Lama has to do it, Rinpoche is truly very humble and kind. Thank You Rinpoche for continuing to benefit a lot of people.
Thank You for sharing Seng Piow.

  16. So Kin Hoe on Jun 4, 2013 at 11:05 pm

We are very fortunate to have a Guru who cares for us, checking for every corner of Kechara Forest Retreat so that we will be comfortable and safe from any construction defects whenever we stay in Kechara Forest Retreat for puja, meditation, Dharma classes or other activities.

  17. ERIC LEE KHJB on Jun 4, 2013 at 1:54 am

  18. Erickksiow on Jun 4, 2013 at 1:30 am

Even such a high lama goes out in to the sun and mud just to oversee the work of the containers.
Normal lamas do not go outdoors to oversee works ETC….
Instead they teach people the Dharma and lead other people to enlightenment.
Our lama really cares about things and even goes out to see the work.
Our guru really cares for us and our future.

  20. tenzin llhamo on Jun 3, 2013 at 11:00 pm

Its because Rinpoche love us that we have Kechara Forest Retreat. It is for us and our future generations. Even so, Rinpoche make sure that everything is done right and it will be okay for us and those that will come from far and wide to visit. To a point that Rinpoche Himself inspect the place and instruct what should be done correctly. Although Rinpoche is High Lama, He will still do little things like this. Thank you Rinpoche for your love and care always!

  21. Julien Roth on Jun 3, 2013 at 9:58 pm

Haha, this is so cool. I actually think Rinpoche is the only high lama which actually is there to watch and take control of the construction. And the construction is all for a good cause, to build KFR to spread Dharma, i couldn’t think of a better reason to build.

  22. Patsy on Jun 2, 2013 at 5:54 pm

Rinpoche is always very concerned about the welfare of his students and friends and He will go all out to make sure that everything is alright. Rinpoche not only gives dharma talk on a high throne but out in the open under scorching heat. Every moment with him is a teaching. Rinpoche walks the talk and He oversees to the construction of KFR because He cares.

Thank you, Rinpoche, for your unconditional love:)

  23. Bryan Ho on Jun 2, 2013 at 3:44 am

I’m lucky enough to served Rinpoche closely and I also extremely fortunate to be sent to monastery and help Rinpoche on monastery related matters quite often.

During one of my visit to Gaden, I met this very senior and holy monk, Gen Ngawang, who is highly respected in the monastery due to his great knowledge on sutra and tantra. Gen Ngawang was Tsem Rinpoche’s direct previous life’s (Kentrul Thubten Lamsang Rinpoche) student. He was ordained by Kentrul Thubten Lamsang Rinpoche when he was around 7 years old and studied under Kentrul Rinpoche until he was 15 and sent to Gaden in Lhasa by Kentrul Rinpoche.

Gen Ngawang was born in Phari in Tibet, and this is where Tsem Rinpoche’s previous life turn the wheel of Dharma. Kentrul Rinpoche was HH Trijang Rinpoche’s student and was sent to Phari by HH Trijang Rinpoche in order to bring Dharma to one of the most remote area in Tibet.

Few years later, Kentrul Rinpoche build 2 big and 1 small monasteries in Phari area, which also contained of 3 storey high Yamantaka, Heruka, and Vajrayogini statue in one of the monastery. Most of the lay persons in that region are all studied under Kentrul Rinpoche, Gen Ngawang told me he remember Kentrul Rinpoche have about 10k student and always come and seek Kentrul Rinpoche for advise. During that time, Kentrul Rinpoche will gather a lot of silver offering and offered to his teacher HH Trijang Rinpoche, Gaden and Gyuto Monastery in Lhasa.

My point is , I got all this stories from an old monk that I never met but the stories that he told me is 100% same like what Rinpoche is doing in this life time. Tsem Rinpoche was sent to Malaysia by his current life teacher, HH Zong Rinpoche in order to bring authentic Dharma to remote area (Malaysia), and Tsem Rinpoche build monastery (Kechara) and big statue (12ft Tsongkhpa, 9 ft Vajrayogini and 8ft Setrap in Kechara House Gompa), and now Rinpoche is building Kechara FOrest Retreat for everyone. Also don forget Tsem Rinpoche always sponsor and help monastery in order for the monks to get better living environment so they can concentrate on study. This is what I see which match with what i heard from Gen Ngawang.

Tsem Rinpoche have been building monastery and bring Dharma to many others, we are lucky enough to meet a living Buddha that have no other motive for others and he will continue again and again. We should not let Tsem Rinpoche do this alone, and we should do whatever we can to help him to get this up, because Kechara Forest Retreat is not a place for him but a place for us.

      Kechara Forest Retreat 将要完成,必须要完成!我们一定要努力!

      谢谢,Bryan 、 胜彪与一群在仁波切的助理! 还有所有的职工!

Rinpoche is much more than a teacher to his students. He CARES and wants nothing but gives everything!.Rinpoche shows selfless love and compassion towards all his students and beings alike.
Such unconditional love and acceptance we can only receive from a genuine Guru.Thank you Rinpoche.

  25. Sharon Saw on Jun 1, 2013 at 2:18 am

Rinpoche has always told us that we need to get our hands dirty and be totally involved in everything we do. Rinpoche certainly has been walking the talk here at Kechara Forest Retreat, which he oversees because he is deeply concerned about the people who will stay in the cabins and he wants to know that it is safe and comfortable for all. Rinpoche is certainly someone to emulate as he exemplifies the bodhicitta heart.

  26. edward ooi on Jun 1, 2013 at 2:03 am

We (Kecharians) must be grateful that we have a Guru that love and care for us. Tsem Rinpoche should be sitting in the Ladrang doing what Rinpoche want to do but instead, Rinpoche decided to go to the construction area and see how is the constructions.

  27. Girlie OOI on May 31, 2013 at 5:16 pm

Our Rinpoche is not the typical Lama who sits on his throne and gives Dharma teachings. He gets his hands dirty and joins the group hands-on in the building process.

Rinpoche is so humble; he doesn’t mind the mud, nor the rain, nor the sun.

    • Jay Jae on Jun 4, 2013 at 4:41 pm

Only a Lama who cares from the bottom of his heart will do this! Rinpoche’s love for every single one of us is incomparable and beautifully etched in our hearts. Don’t u agree?

  28. Jay Jae on May 31, 2013 at 3:33 pm

In the past, high Lamas of Tibetan Buddhism are considered ‘high’ due to their attainments and abilities to teach the masses. As time evolves, society changes and when Tibetan Buddhism took flight out of Tibet into the different parts of the world, the presentation of the teachings is different but the essence is pretty much the same.

Here, His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche bridges the age old wisdom of the Buddha with modern day life, walking out of the monasteries into the world, teaching by example of taking a step further to go onto the grounds n be part of the building of our institution Kechara Forest Retreat.

We are very fortunate to have Rinpoche with us, and through his prayers and vision, we are assured of a very bright and fulfilling future.

  29. Jessica Yap on May 31, 2013 at 1:28 am

It is so inspiring to know that Rinpoche is so humble and chooses to walk on the mud under the scorching sun to oversee the whole process. Rinpoche is definitely a true Buddha indeed. Rinpoche walks the talk. That is how Rinpoche cares for us. Whether we are Rinpoche’s student or not, Rinpoche works tirelessly to benefit others. Yet our beloved Lama wants nothing but our mind transformation in return.

    I love my Guru!
Thank you for sharing, Seng Piow!

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo is a bhikṣuṇī in the Drukpa lineage of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. She is an author, teacher and founder of the Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery in Himachal Pradesh, India. Reading this interesting post with the thought of our daily life, how laziness will bring us downhill. It is possible to overcome laziness by setting achievable goals and developing a strong work ethic. Lazy ambition is not an uncommon occurrence . Through not been lazy, it takes sweat, determination and hard work one can be successful. Laziness may reflect a lack of self-esteem, by taking the initiative doing things that matters in life such as learning dharma and practicing dharma is the best option. Letting go all unnecessary secular activities and do more to benefit others will be a better choice. Do what we can, with what we have, where we are and not excuses not to do. Accept whatever comes along, accept reality instead running away from it been lazy.
Thank you Rinpoche for this profound teachings of Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo.

A mantra is a sacred utterance, a numinous sound, a syllable, word believed by practitioners to have religious, magical or spiritual powers. They are refer as sacred words of power. Mantras are used in many spiritual traditions, they originated in the ancient scriptures. They are used up to this day in India. Anyone who recites those holy words can tap into their source and connect with sacred energy that helps to transform our minds. A tremendous blessing power that exist in all religions . When we chant mantra, the ancient sound vibrations carefully designed by the sages impact our vibrational frequency. They have precise effects on different parts of our body and energy levels. Some improve overall well-being in the body. Mantras can have a powerful impact on us and have tremendous benefits as well. We are indeed fortunate to have learn, practice and recites mantras from our Gurus, which have tremendous blessings.

Any pictures of Chenrezig will always caught my eyes on it since young. Looking at those pictures and watching the videos , had me think of how tedious training those dancers had gone through against the odds. A salute to them even though they are deaf-blind-and-mute they danced gracefully transforms into 1000 arm-chenrezig. They are a professional dancer from the China Disabled People’s Performing Arts Troupe. They learned the art of dancing through sign language with other trainers at a very young age. Determination says all.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing. An inspiring post to encourage any disable person not to give up .

Reading again the stories of Gaden Jangtse’s Jolenpa Gen Nyima, by Kyabje Tsem Tulku Rinpoche truly inspiring indeed. An extremely humble monk was not interested in titles, recognition or degrees yet highly attained Yamantaka yogi with his meditation practice .One could transform into an exalted being if we sincerely and having engage in the meditations and practices. Gen Nyima’s example shows and inspired many that humility is the basis of all attainments. Live a simple life , donated mostly all to monastery and kept little for himself. Having saved many people performing miraculous healings and giving extremely accurate divinations. Interesting reading of his miraculous healing. Wow interesting stories about Gen Nyima demonstrating his attainments to spread the Dharma and had inspired others through his Dharma teachings. Gen Nyima had spent 15 years in a Yamantaka retreat in Bhutan before returning to Gaden Jangtse Monastery.
Rejoiced to Irene Lim and few of Tsem Rinpoche ‘s students having met Gen Nyima at Gaden Monastery back in 1993.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing of a great Mahasiddha Gen Nyima.

Thank you Rinpoche and Beatrice Ooi for this sharing and explaining the details of incense. Within Tibetan Buddhism, incense has traditionally been used as an offering to the Three Jewels for centuries, so as in other Buddhist traditions. Within ritual, incense is also used to purify offering substances such as water, food and light. We offer incense as an expression of our gratitude and reverence for the Buddha’s great compassion. The practice of burning incense sticks has a dual purpose, purifying and cleansing the energy of a space. It is said that the fragrant eliminating negative impurities and creating a positive environment. In many religious practices, burning incense is believed to deepen our attention and empower our spiritual focus. The aroma of incense can help us to tap in our spiritual connections. It calms the environment and our mind, cleansing the space for inner and outer journeys. Great article.

Revisit this blog again …….very useful information for us to know where and how our incense powder make of. Reading this blog and coming to understand better of herbs name which I haven’t heard before. Smoke cleansing is a practice performed by various cultures, religions, and faiths around the world. A ritual steeped in history, smoke cleansing involves the burning of various herbs, resins, wood powders, and essential oils for health or spiritual purposes.
Its good to know many of plants rather herbs have many benefits and very useful in curing diseases and clearing negative energy in an environment. Herbs and incense when burned will brings fresh, fantastic energy at home. Its effects are truly fantastic in purification rituals as well. The different types of herbs, and other ingredients are used, which is based upon that which is regionally, culturally, spiritually, or historically significant.
Excellent article, well researched full of interesting information, I really learnt a lot .
Thank you Rinpoche for this great sharing.

Interesting how an offering of incense had saved lives. Even its an old post, reading it with joy how this little act of incense offering had saved Tsem Rinpoche students. Rinpoche normally has his students makes prayers but on that day Rinpoche led everyone travelling down to Kuala Lumpur to make an offering of incense. Rinpoche usually recites the prayer once or twice to clear obstacles. Somehow it was different on that day, Rinpoche recited the prayer seven times, and then proceeded to ask Dorje Shugden to remove any obstacles quickly and effective and to protect his students. Then it happened,a car crash on the way Rinpoche and students walk out safely without serious injuries. The power of Dorje Shugden that Rinpoche had invoked before the journey. The invoking of Dorje Shugden’s energies, an offering of incense saved the lives of those in the car. That’s amazing.
Thank you Rinpoche and Genla for this sharing.

The Kawang is a powerful confessional prayer that purifies negative karma that has accumulated from countless previous lifetimes. Well with the correct visualisation, consistently and sincerely during prayers we can purify a tremendous amount of negative karma that will create the obstacles in our lives. I have included these prayers in my daily Sadhana ever since I came to know the many benefits of it. Well explanation and details wrote.
Thank you Rinpoche with folded hands and Pastor David for this great sharing.

Reading this blog tells us a thousands knowledge to learn and put into practice. Getting to understand now. So what we experience now is our past karma in what we had done. We must learn, practice Dharma and accept all circumstances that arise during our practice. We must change and practice more to transform our mind , taking the sufferings of others rather than ourselves.
Thank you Rinpoche for these powerful teachings.

Interesting read of a wolf-like creature reported to have been witnessed in or near Elkhorn, Walworth County, Wisconsin. The creature has become a part of Wisconsin folklore since discovery. It has been the subject of multiple books, documentaries, and even horror film. Though Beast was likely inspired by just story and it is not based on the real-life events. Well the first reported sighting of these creature had the people name as the Beast of Bray Road. Sightings became prevalent in those days and it had particularly centralized around Elkhorn. The first sighting was in 1930’s interesting with some claiming it looks wolf like creatures. Whether the Beast of Bray Road truly exists, despite numerous sightings. No one can say but one brave investigator after investigating said its true it do exist.

According to legend, the Flatwoods Monster, also known as the green monster while others name it as the Phantom of Flatwoods. The Flatwoods monster, in West Virginia folklore, is a creature reported to have been sighted in the town of Flatwoods in West Virginia. The Monster was said by some as about 12 feet tall with a head shaped like the ace of spades having glowing reddish and green in colour. People in the nearby community of Flatwoods had an unusual experience that was burned forever into their mind. Residents had witnessed this phenomenon and discovered a hideous monstrosity with fiery red eyes and ran for their lives. Repulsed and fascinated by the Green Monster the town of Flatwoods has embraced the folktale. Today, the Flatwoods Monster is considered the second most popular monster in West Virginia. The legend of the Flatwoods monster has inspired media beyond.
Thank you Rinpoche for this interesting of a green Monster.

Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen a great scholar, yogi and master of Sutra and Tantra previous lives of Dorje Shugden. He arose as a Dharma Protector to protect the precious teachings of his teacher Lama Tsongkhapa. As he had made the promise to his teacher Lama Tsongkhapa thus laying the foundation for Dorje Shugden to manifest later, in another incarnation. Interesting indeed. In recognition of his pure monkhood and incredible knowledge and understanding of the Vinaya texts he was given the name Duldzin for holding the Vinaya vows so well. Because of that many considered him equal to Lama Tsongkhapa in terms of attainments. He became a great treasury of scriptural knowledge on both Sutra and Tantra as well as an ocean of realised qualities. Wow….. he exuded a beautiful scent because of his qualities. Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen left a legacies having produced great disciples and monasteries he founded. He composed a number of important works on the Vinaya , composed sadhanas for mandala rituals and commentaries, consecration rites and so forth. His best known legacy is the construction of Gaden Monastery, which continues to exist to this day.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing of a great scholar.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
