Tsem Rinpoche with Dato’ Eric Tan at Kechara Forest Retreat

Being Rinpoche’s personal attendant means that I am able to witness real Dharma in action, both on and off the throne. I consider myself extremely fortunate, and at the same time it is also a great challenge to instil Dharma in my life 24/7.

Over the years I have witnessed many cases of how Rinpoche helped many people in both worldly and supramundane ways, so I decided to have these stories told in comic form for the wider audience. It is my wish that through these stories many will be inspired to achieve the state of compassion and attainments like Tsem Rinpoche, so that many more sentient beings can be helped.

Pastor Loh Seng Piow

Thank you Pastor Seng Piow for sharing this story. It is amazing and marvelous. This miracle happened to Datuk Eric that mean it also can happen to all Rinpoche’s diciples. How lucky to have Rinpoche in our life, as the compassion from Rinpoche, our protector-Setrap and Dorje Shugden helps us. What a student should do is to follow the instruction from Rinpoche, do Sadhana daily and have full faith in Rinpoche, just like what Rinpoche said, we believe in him 100%(protector)we will have 100% result. Thank you Rinpoche to be in my life, and I feel safe by following you.

It is so important to have GURU guiding us in our spiritual journey. We sometimes lost direction, confused, influenced by friends and derail from our spiritual path. Guru helps us, care for us, and provides direction so that we can stay on the right path, improved and transform.

    Thank you Rinpoche

Wow, as i read this story. My tears and laughter so along the story line. Dato Eric have gone through so many up and down in his life.

But, Dato Eric hard work and his strong devotion towards Rinpoche make him success. The most beautiful thing is, Dato Eric not only a Business person but a Dharma practitioner. Thus the projects he build bring fortune to Melaka.

Thanks to Seng Piow for the beautiful story

Dharmapala is a powerful enlightened Dharma protector of the illustrious 600-year-old Gaden Shartse Monastry, introduced by Rinpoche to Kechara to help clear obstacles and bring sucess and harmony to all Malaysians. Other benefits of Dharmapala Lord Setrap’s practice also includes receiving powerful protection against black magic and spirit possessions! Rinpoche’s blog teachings have also been highly appraised by many overseas practioners admiringly as follows:- “His clarity, wit and style makes the Dharma accessible and applicable to all aspects of life”. Therefore, with absolute strong faith in the protector’s capability, coupled with Rinpoche’s careful guidance and advice, will lead to a successful result of one’s hard efforts! Congrats to Dato Eric for his srtong faith and Guru Devotion.

There are always ups and downs in life. But it is how you deal with them is what matters. In this, Datuk has chosen Rinpoche and Setrap to help him get through all those though times, which is probably the best thing that could help you in life or any obstacles. There is so much power. And Datuk was very lucky to be able to understand all the power.

Another great comic story! It’s such a wonderful way to tell Rinpoche’s story by Comics. It’s fun! Thanks to Dato Eric for sharing his story. The story will encourage so many people to have the faith to the Protector and do our daily practise.

The stories confirmed one thing again and again. Rinpoche is the Living Buddha. We are so lucky to meet Rinpoche and receive Rinpoche’s teaching in this lifetime.

  20. Sean Pang on Aug 24, 2012 at 3:38 pm

What an inspiring story! If anyone out there is looking for “proof”, here it is.

“If you believe in him 100%, you will get 100% results! If you half believe in him then you just get half the benefits.”. It really is that simple and logical, and it can be applied to everything in our daily lives except we’re talking about believing a higher being that can really help us.

Our belief is only as strong as our commitment. Obstacles can and will come and go but our belief must not be shaken or lessened. Dato’ Tan’s experience isn’t something most of us can go through. Even the loss of hundreds of companies previously owned by him and suffering a financial loss of 40 million Singapore dollars at one go did not drive Dato’ Tan to give up on either himself or Rinpoche or his daily Protector practice. If we think about it, what are our trifle difficulties compared to what he went through? As the saying goes, “the higher you climb, the harder you fall”. But it takes a strong will to stand up and walk on. Dato’ Tan’s unshaken belief in Rinpoche and the Protector helped him to do that.

Thank you, Dato’ Tan, for your story. It truly is an inspiration.

Thank you, Seng Piow, for sharing Dato’ Tan’s story with us.

Thank you, Rinpoche, for endlessly and tirelessly being our Guru.

Thank you for always guiding us, teaching us. If it wasn’t for Rinpoche who constantly reminds me to be filial to my dad, and what tough times he was going through, i wouldn’t know how pampered i was. It was through Rinpoche and Setrap’s help that make us what we are today. Deepest respect to my guru’s advice. For that, i will gladly give my all to Rinpoche, to Dharma.

Thank you Seng Piow for creating this wonderful comic, deepest appreciation for the hard work to you and your team.

What an interesting story of Datuk Eric Tan. I find the story believable and I am sure it reflects the many students who don’t trust the advice of their Lama.

I like Datuk Eric Tan’s story because he eventually developed faith in his Lama because Rinpoche’s divination is highly accurate. For many people, Dharma is just about beautiful words and beautiful philosophy. Hence, there’s no spiritual growth. Great examples like Dato Eric that inspires real faith in the Dharma and in our Lama. That’s because people like Datuk Eric Tan would never believe in the Dharma or our Lama. Hence, it is stories like Datuk Tan that inspires people the most.

This is one of my favourite stories from the “Miracles of Tsem Rinpoche” series. So many people believe that following the Dharma requires an austere, ascetic, life. Faithfully following the Dharma can bring material benefit in this life, in addition to the true, lasting benefits which practice brings!

Thank you, Rinpoche! And thank you, Seng Piow, for sharing the story!

Dato’ Eric went through trials and tribulations – he stuck through thick and thin and had unwavering faith in both Rinpoche and our Dharma protector.

  32. MayOng on Aug 19, 2012 at 8:18 am

From the story here, Dato’ Eric Tan is not someone who gives up easily or be defeated both in corporate world or spiritually. He learnt the hard way of not taking Rinpoche’s advice initially but as life is impermanent, he choose to change his mind and followed Rinpoche’s advice later and results followed with success. Believing in the protector is not enough but listening to the Guru’s advice is also very crucial. We need both the spiritual teacher and the protector for success in life.

In this story, we are reminded yet again how important it is to have 100% faith, trust and devotion in our Guru and in Protector Setrap. Rinpoche shows great compassion as always. Here too Rinpoche also shows us that it is important to remember and repay the kindness of others. We have learned from senior students how Datuk Eric and his family had helped Rinpoche during a period when Rinpoche needed their help most.

Thank you for sharing this story. This is showing us again how compassion our Guru and Protector are to us. It is us that do not believe in them that causing us problem. As per what Rinpoche have told Dato Eric, if you believe in Protector 100%, protector will help you 100%, if you believe in 50%, then you only get 50%.
Besides that, i would like to thank Dato for contributing back and helping Rinpoche in his Dharma work after his has success in his business with the help of Rinpoche & Protector. I heard stories from P. Chia on how Dato Eric has helped Rinpoche during the earlier years and that we can have Kechara now.

There have been a lot of people benefited from Rinpoche advises and Lord Setrap practices. Getting advises and not following through or half way doesn’t help in fact shows that how much we are devoted and believe the Guru.
Faith and devotion is very important and not forgetting consistent effort.

Dato’ Eric tells us his experience and the important if we want our practices to be flourish.

I like this: If you believe him 100% , you wil get 100% results.

This story and other stories I heard proved to me that we should follow our Guru’s instruction without slight deviation like a filial child.

To follow your Guru not because of worshiping or anything else but faith in your Guru as a holy being who is compassion and cares for your welfare of this life and future lives. He or she gains nothing from you by you following his instruction.

By following your Guru’s instructions not only save you the hardship which can be avoided but you can fly instead jump.

“If you don’t have a Guru, when you come to the cliff, you jump; but if you have a Guru, when you come to the cliff, you FLY…”

Another story about Rinpoche’s compassion. Rinpoche is always taking care of everyone. Even sometime you don’t follow what he said, when you need Rinpoche’s help, he still be there to help us. Therefore, we must have faith in our guru because he gain nothing from us and we are the one who always need him to guide us to the path of enlightenment.

Reading this makes me think about the “Secret’ and how it wont realy work, people can do a lot and get very little, some do very little and get a lot. The use of Secret to have a totally positive mind is good , but without the supporting karmic energy it is going to be very hard for something to happen in the direction we wish it to be.

  51. Henry Ooi on Aug 16, 2012 at 4:44 pm

So many Kecharians and non Kecharians have benefited and received so much assistance from Rinpoche and dharma protector Lord Setrap. Dato Eric’s true story is yet another of those told and there are so many more stories to unfold. Yet still, there are also many stories that may not be told without permission from the receivers who had benefited. This tells of Rinpoche’s compassion to all beings and the mystical working of the enlightened dharma protector, Lord Setrap.

    • DR on Aug 28, 2012 at 11:31 am

You are absolutely correct that so many people have benefitted from Rinpoche’s help. If we are to publish every single story, it would be enough to fill up a library! Seriously. Rinpoche works 24/7, his phone is never off. People from different countries email in for help, read Rinpoche’s blog (which Rinpoche spends sleepless nights writting and posting)and their lives change. So Rinpoche even helps those who are not in this country. Let alone the dogs, birds, etc that he rescues and saves. Amazing!

Thank you again for such an inspiring story . It is so true that when we embark on a spiritual journey , there are times when we become unsure , we stumble , we become lazy , we get confused by others discouraging us ! The instruction to succeed is actually very clear – just follow the Guru’s instructions 100% ! The Guru is here , right beside us . If we believe in Him 100% we will benefit all , if we believe only half then expect only half the benefits ! May we be able to continue to create the merits for Rinpoche to stay in Malaysia with us to continue to guide and benefit all sentient beings !!

Thank you Seng PIow. Dato Eric is an example of many in Kechara House. We should all have faith in our own Guru.

  54. Louise Lee on Aug 16, 2012 at 1:59 pm

Yes i agree Jace Chong said ! The faith to our Guru is very important !

But a lot of people they’ll dont care, until something happen !

From all this comic , is it so real. I hope that everyone can wake up, dont make something happen , when it was too late !

We got a good friend, always belong with us 24hour ! No matter when we go !

    THE NAME IS KARMA !!

  55. Jace Chong on Aug 16, 2012 at 12:30 pm

The faith to our Guru will get us no way but up. Thanks Dato’ Eric for showing us the truth faith that bring success!

May Dato’ Eric and family be well, always be protected and guided by the 3 Jewels.

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo is a bhikṣuṇī in the Drukpa lineage of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. She is an author, teacher and founder of the Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery in Himachal Pradesh, India. Reading this interesting post with the thought of our daily life, how laziness will bring us downhill. It is possible to overcome laziness by setting achievable goals and developing a strong work ethic. Lazy ambition is not an uncommon occurrence . Through not been lazy, it takes sweat, determination and hard work one can be successful. Laziness may reflect a lack of self-esteem, by taking the initiative doing things that matters in life such as learning dharma and practicing dharma is the best option. Letting go all unnecessary secular activities and do more to benefit others will be a better choice. Do what we can, with what we have, where we are and not excuses not to do. Accept whatever comes along, accept reality instead running away from it been lazy.
Thank you Rinpoche for this profound teachings of Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo.

A mantra is a sacred utterance, a numinous sound, a syllable, word believed by practitioners to have religious, magical or spiritual powers. They are refer as sacred words of power. Mantras are used in many spiritual traditions, they originated in the ancient scriptures. They are used up to this day in India. Anyone who recites those holy words can tap into their source and connect with sacred energy that helps to transform our minds. A tremendous blessing power that exist in all religions . When we chant mantra, the ancient sound vibrations carefully designed by the sages impact our vibrational frequency. They have precise effects on different parts of our body and energy levels. Some improve overall well-being in the body. Mantras can have a powerful impact on us and have tremendous benefits as well. We are indeed fortunate to have learn, practice and recites mantras from our Gurus, which have tremendous blessings.

Any pictures of Chenrezig will always caught my eyes on it since young. Looking at those pictures and watching the videos , had me think of how tedious training those dancers had gone through against the odds. A salute to them even though they are deaf-blind-and-mute they danced gracefully transforms into 1000 arm-chenrezig. They are a professional dancer from the China Disabled People’s Performing Arts Troupe. They learned the art of dancing through sign language with other trainers at a very young age. Determination says all.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing. An inspiring post to encourage any disable person not to give up .

Reading again the stories of Gaden Jangtse’s Jolenpa Gen Nyima, by Kyabje Tsem Tulku Rinpoche truly inspiring indeed. An extremely humble monk was not interested in titles, recognition or degrees yet highly attained Yamantaka yogi with his meditation practice .One could transform into an exalted being if we sincerely and having engage in the meditations and practices. Gen Nyima’s example shows and inspired many that humility is the basis of all attainments. Live a simple life , donated mostly all to monastery and kept little for himself. Having saved many people performing miraculous healings and giving extremely accurate divinations. Interesting reading of his miraculous healing. Wow interesting stories about Gen Nyima demonstrating his attainments to spread the Dharma and had inspired others through his Dharma teachings. Gen Nyima had spent 15 years in a Yamantaka retreat in Bhutan before returning to Gaden Jangtse Monastery.
Rejoiced to Irene Lim and few of Tsem Rinpoche ‘s students having met Gen Nyima at Gaden Monastery back in 1993.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing of a great Mahasiddha Gen Nyima.

Thank you Rinpoche and Beatrice Ooi for this sharing and explaining the details of incense. Within Tibetan Buddhism, incense has traditionally been used as an offering to the Three Jewels for centuries, so as in other Buddhist traditions. Within ritual, incense is also used to purify offering substances such as water, food and light. We offer incense as an expression of our gratitude and reverence for the Buddha’s great compassion. The practice of burning incense sticks has a dual purpose, purifying and cleansing the energy of a space. It is said that the fragrant eliminating negative impurities and creating a positive environment. In many religious practices, burning incense is believed to deepen our attention and empower our spiritual focus. The aroma of incense can help us to tap in our spiritual connections. It calms the environment and our mind, cleansing the space for inner and outer journeys. Great article.

Revisit this blog again …….very useful information for us to know where and how our incense powder make of. Reading this blog and coming to understand better of herbs name which I haven’t heard before. Smoke cleansing is a practice performed by various cultures, religions, and faiths around the world. A ritual steeped in history, smoke cleansing involves the burning of various herbs, resins, wood powders, and essential oils for health or spiritual purposes.
Its good to know many of plants rather herbs have many benefits and very useful in curing diseases and clearing negative energy in an environment. Herbs and incense when burned will brings fresh, fantastic energy at home. Its effects are truly fantastic in purification rituals as well. The different types of herbs, and other ingredients are used, which is based upon that which is regionally, culturally, spiritually, or historically significant.
Excellent article, well researched full of interesting information, I really learnt a lot .
Thank you Rinpoche for this great sharing.

Interesting how an offering of incense had saved lives. Even its an old post, reading it with joy how this little act of incense offering had saved Tsem Rinpoche students. Rinpoche normally has his students makes prayers but on that day Rinpoche led everyone travelling down to Kuala Lumpur to make an offering of incense. Rinpoche usually recites the prayer once or twice to clear obstacles. Somehow it was different on that day, Rinpoche recited the prayer seven times, and then proceeded to ask Dorje Shugden to remove any obstacles quickly and effective and to protect his students. Then it happened,a car crash on the way Rinpoche and students walk out safely without serious injuries. The power of Dorje Shugden that Rinpoche had invoked before the journey. The invoking of Dorje Shugden’s energies, an offering of incense saved the lives of those in the car. That’s amazing.
Thank you Rinpoche and Genla for this sharing.

The Kawang is a powerful confessional prayer that purifies negative karma that has accumulated from countless previous lifetimes. Well with the correct visualisation, consistently and sincerely during prayers we can purify a tremendous amount of negative karma that will create the obstacles in our lives. I have included these prayers in my daily Sadhana ever since I came to know the many benefits of it. Well explanation and details wrote.

Reading this blog tells us a thousands knowledge to learn and put into practice. Getting to understand now. So what we experience now is our past karma in what we had done. We must learn, practice Dharma and accept all circumstances that arise during our practice. We must change and practice more to transform our mind , taking the sufferings of others rather than ourselves.
Thank you Rinpoche for these powerful teachings.

Interesting read of a wolf-like creature reported to have been witnessed in or near Elkhorn, Walworth County, Wisconsin. The creature has become a part of Wisconsin folklore since discovery. It has been the subject of multiple books, documentaries, and even horror film. Though Beast was likely inspired by just story and it is not based on the real-life events. Well the first reported sighting of these creature had the people name as the Beast of Bray Road. Sightings became prevalent in those days and it had particularly centralized around Elkhorn. The first sighting was in 1930’s interesting with some claiming it looks wolf like creatures. Whether the Beast of Bray Road truly exists, despite numerous sightings. No one can say but one brave investigator after investigating said its true it do exist.

According to legend, the Flatwoods Monster, also known as the green monster while others name it as the Phantom of Flatwoods. The Flatwoods monster, in West Virginia folklore, is a creature reported to have been sighted in the town of Flatwoods in West Virginia. The Monster was said by some as about 12 feet tall with a head shaped like the ace of spades having glowing reddish and green in colour. People in the nearby community of Flatwoods had an unusual experience that was burned forever into their mind. Residents had witnessed this phenomenon and discovered a hideous monstrosity with fiery red eyes and ran for their lives. Repulsed and fascinated by the Green Monster the town of Flatwoods has embraced the folktale. Today, the Flatwoods Monster is considered the second most popular monster in West Virginia. The legend of the Flatwoods monster has inspired media beyond.

Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen a great scholar, yogi and master of Sutra and Tantra previous lives of Dorje Shugden. He arose as a Dharma Protector to protect the precious teachings of his teacher Lama Tsongkhapa. As he had made the promise to his teacher Lama Tsongkhapa thus laying the foundation for Dorje Shugden to manifest later, in another incarnation. Interesting indeed. In recognition of his pure monkhood and incredible knowledge and understanding of the Vinaya texts he was given the name Duldzin for holding the Vinaya vows so well. Because of that many considered him equal to Lama Tsongkhapa in terms of attainments. He became a great treasury of scriptural knowledge on both Sutra and Tantra as well as an ocean of realised qualities. Wow….. he exuded a beautiful scent because of his qualities. Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen left a legacies having produced great disciples and monasteries he founded. He composed a number of important works on the Vinaya , composed sadhanas for mandala rituals and commentaries, consecration rites and so forth. His best known legacy is the construction of Gaden Monastery, which continues to exist to this day.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing of a great scholar.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

Find one of the most beautiful temples in the world in Nara, Japan. It is the 1,267 year old Todai-ji temple that houses a 15 meter Buddha Vairocana statue who is a cosmic and timeless Buddha. Emperor Shomu who sponsored this beautiful temple eventually abdicated and ordained as a Buddhist monk. Very interesting history and story. 7 years ago
What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
