Mysteries are always interesting to read about. Not only does it make our day a little less mundane, but it also help us to open our mind and contemplate on happenings that would be conveniently rejected by conventional mind. Here’s a compiled list of 10 creepy mysteries for you to ponder and take a break with.

Tsem Rinpoche

10. Shanti Deva

It’s about a young girl born in the 1920’s from Delhi, India. However, there is something great about this young girl too, as she remembers who she was in her previous life.

In 1930, when Shanti Deva was only 4 years old, she told her parents that she had once lived in a place called Muttra (Muthura at present), that she was a mother of three who died in childbirth, and that her previous name was Ludgi. Because she continually related the story, her parents decided to investigate, and it turned out there was a woman named Ludgi in the village Muttra that had recently passed away. Her parents then took Shanti to the village where she began speaking the local dialect and recognized her previous life’s husband and children. She also gave 24 accurate statements matching confirmed facts about Ludgi’s life.

Similar cases have been reported across the globe, and one such case was reported in the ABC network. The video below tells the story about a young boy, James who was a fighter pilot in his previous life.

9. Creepy Gnome

The Gnome of Argentina has already been blogged previously. Here’s the link to read more about it:

8. Freddy Jackson’s Ghost

This photo was taken in 1919 and was first published in 1975 by Sir Victor Goddard, a retired R.A.F. officer. The photo is a group portrait of Goddard’s squadron, which served in World War 1, aboard the HMS Daedalus. In the picture, an extra ghostly face appears behind the airman positioned at the top row, fourth from the left. It is said to be the face of Freddy Jackson, an air mechanic who had been accidentally killed by an airplane propeller two days earlier. His funeral took place on the same day this photograph was taken. It was suggested that perhaps Jackson was unaware of his death and decided to show up for the group photo.

7. Overtoun Bridge

Also known as the ‘Dog Suicide Bridge’, the Overtoun Bridge in Milton, Dumbarton, Scotland built in 1859 became famous for the number of unexplained dog suicides leaping off the bridge. In the last 50 years, some 50 dogs have leapt to their deaths from the same spot: between the final two parapets on the right-hand side of the bridge.

Several theories were proposed over the years to account for the mystery. It was rumored that the bridge and a nearby Overtoun house is haunted. In 1994, a local man threw his baby son to his death from the bridge, claiming he thought the child was the anti-Christ. Shortly after that, the man tried to end his own life with an unsuccessful suicide attempt on the same bridge. Another theory revolves around a Celtic mythology, where “Overtoun” is known as “the thin place”: an area in which heaven and earth are said to be close. Because dogs are thought to be more sensitive than humans, it was thought that perhaps they were “spooked” by external forces which made them jump.

On a non-paranormal view, some thought that perhaps the dogs were depressed or caught their owner’s negative emotions which led to their suicide. Although it was partially proven that dogs can sense their owner’s emotions and be affected by it, there is no evidence to suggest the dogs would jump to their deaths due to it.

The phenomenon caused much worry to local residents and even gained international attention, lead the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to send their representatives to investigate. The video below tells us about the investigation and their conclusion of the phenomenon. However, there are some questions that still remain unanswered, such as Why do the dogs leap from the same location?

6. James Worson

Missing people are reported all the time, either kidnappings, abductions or victims of some crime. While those happenings are explainable, there are some disappearances that are just mind boggling such as in the case of James Worson, the man that vanished into thin air.

On September 1873, James Worson of Leamington Spa, England, who was a simple shoemaker, accepted a challenge with his friends to race from Leamington to Coventry. Knowing it was a 20 mile trek, his friends took the bet and followed him in a horse-cart while James jogged ahead.

While running the trek, he suddenly stumbled and let out one short, piercing scream. However, instead of falling onto the ground when he pitched forward, he just vanished in mid-fall. The road itself confirmed the story and James’ friends took the pictures to prove it. A search was called and the locals looked for James but with no success. The bloodhounds used in the search were strangely reluctant to approach the spot James disappeared. He was never seen or heard from again.

5. Devil’s Footprint

Hoof-like footprints were a phenomenon first recorded in 1855, and 154 years later, the devil’s footprint appeared once again in Devon on 5th March 2009. The prints matched the mysterious 100-mile trail that was found on the first sighting. The prints measured 5 ins long with a stride of between 11 and 17 ins. The tracks reportedly continued unbroken – appearing on both sides of 14 foot walls and locked gates. Although the blame for the appearance of the ‘devil’ was thrown to several outlets, the phenomenon remains a mystery.

4. Felicia Felix-Mentor

Felicia reportedly died in 1907, after a sudden illness of the type that Haitian belief finds to be characteristic of a person marked to be a zombie. In 1936, a woman was found wondering the streets, and made her way to a farm which she claimed belonged to her father. The owner identified her as Felicia Felix-Mentor, long thought dead; her husband also confirms this. Due to her poor health, she was sent to the local government hospital. A doctor who interviewed her described her behavior:

“Her occasional outbursts of laughter were devoid of emotion, and very frequently she spoke of herself in either the first or the third person without any sense of discrimination. She had lost all sense of time and was quite indifferent to the world of things around her.”

3. Chupas

Chupas are mysterious objects, or UFOs, allegedly seen by night in the eastern forest of Brazil. They are described as smaller, metallic-like objects that fly about the treetops, making humming sounds like a refrigerator or a transformer. Since most people in the area go for night hunting, they often climb up trees to wait for their prey. It is during this period of waiting that hunters claim to spot the Chupa.

When seen, chupas are claimed to emit a bright white light. Instead of being “just unidentified objects” or lights, they are alleged to be lethal. In same cases, people claim to have been haunted by them. It is claimed that this often results in all kinds of pain for days (sometimes years) after their experience. It has also been claimed that some people have even died from the alleged lethal beams emitted by the chupas, and that some hunters have tried to shoot at the chupas, with no effect.

2. SS Ourang Medan

The Straits of Malacca have long been the passage for trading ships, and over the centuries, most merchantmen reached their destinations safely. However, there are cases where the ships don’t make it and one such case happened on February 1948, when a distress call was picked up by numerous ships from the Dutch freighter SS Ourang Medan. The chilling message was “All officers including captain are dead lying in chartroom and bridge. Possibly whole crew dead”. This message was followed by indecipherable Morse code then one final grisly message… “I die”.

When the first rescue vessel arrived on the scene a few hours later, they tried to hail the Ourang Medan but there was no response. Nothing on board the strange craft moved. A boarding party was quickly assembled and what they found was a frightening sight that made the Ourang Medan one of the strangest and scariest ghost ship stories of all time.

All the crew and officers of the Ourang Medan were dead, their eyes open, faces looking towards the sun, arms outstretched and a look of terror on their faces. Even the ship’s dog was found dead, snarling at some unseen enemy. Strangely there was no sign of wounds or injuries on any of the bodies. The decision was made to tow the ship back to port, but before they could get underway, smoke began rolling up from the hull. The rescue crew left the ship and barely had time to cut the tow lines before the Ourang Medan exploded and sank. To this day, the exact fate of the Ourang Medan and her crew remains a mystery.

1. Gef

In September 1931, when the Irwing family first reported a talking mongoose named Gef, the news became an international sensation. James, Margaret and daughter Voirrey from Doarlish Cashen, a lonely farmhouse outside the little village of Dalby on the Isle of Man – claimed to hear persistent scratching and rustling noises behind their farmhouse’s wooden wall panels.

At first they thought it was a rat, but then the unseen creature began making different sounds, sometimes spitting like a ferret, or growling like a dog, or gurgling like a baby. The entity quickly progressed to something more sophisticated, having learned to mimic various animal noises, it began to repeat nursery rhymes, and within a short time – having built up a sufficiently wide vocabulary – it could converse with the family.

The creature soon revealed an ability to speak, and introduced itself as Gef, a mongoose. It claimed to have been born in New Delhi, India, in 1852. According to Voirrey, who was the only person to see him properly, Gef was the size of a small rat, with yellowish fur and a large bushy tail (The Indian mongoose is in reality much larger than a rat and does not have a bushy tail).

Gef variously claimed to be “an extra extra clever mongoose”, an “earthbound spirit” and “a ghost in the form of a weasel”. Gef seemed reluctant to be captured on film, he gave various reasons why he did not wish to be caught on camera; saying at one point “I am a freak, I have hands and I have feet, and if you saw me you’d faint, you’d be petrified, mummified, turned into stone or a pillar of salt!”

Although Gef was concluded as a hoax by Harry Price, a psychic researcher that tried to decipher the mystery, due to several physical evidence that failed to proof Gef’s existence, two of Price’s assistant researchers claimed to have heard Gef when they visited the Irwings. Also, in an interview many years after the incident, Voirrey maintained that Gef was not her creation. It seems that the mystery surrounding Gef will remain a puzzle for now.

History is full of weird events that no one can explain , well that’s a fact. We are fortunate historians of the past have documented many of them for us to understand. Yet many unexplained mysteries remain unexplained even to this day. For some reason, we as humans tend to concentrate on the mysterious things more than the undeniable facts. World’s greatest unsolved mysteries always interest me. Mysteries of any topic is truly interesting to read the story. Death is a mystery to all of us, and so is reincarnation. When science cannot explain something it is often referred to as a belief. There are many mysterious stories in the world now where people claim to be reincarnated and they remember their past life. One such intriguing story was of Shanti Devi recalling her past life in modern times. Shanti Devi’s story is amazing at the age of four years old, she began telling her parents specific details about her old life.
Interesting and weird mysterious stories in this blog, some of them are truly spooky.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Our history is full of unexplained, things and strange cases. From strange creatures to mysterious visitors and tales of reincarnation . Unsolved mysteries have a way of tugging on our curiosity. Creepy mysteries reincarnation and thrilling mysteries are among the most chilling stories which caught me with interest. Reading it again , the story of the mystery of Scotland’s dog suicide bridge . Apparently , dogs have been reported leaping off the bridge, to have died in the act. No one knows for what makes the dogs leaped off for no reasons. They called it the mysterious suicide bridge Overtoun bridge of Scotland. There are many theories regarding where the spot , dogs will simply jump off to their deaths. These leads to the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, sending teams to investigate . But now came to conclusion.
Another creepy mysteries is the Devil’s Footprints. A phenomenon that occurred during 1855 in England where no one could explained. After a heavy snowfall, trails of hoof-like marks appeared overnight in the snow. A trail of unexplained footprints which appeared to stop right at door steps of homes. There were also trail which leapt walls, climbed haystacks, walked on rooftops and so forth. The physical appearance of the footprints had cause panic and a great uproar to the communities. It remains a mystery, and many superstitious people in the towns are actually afraid to go outside their doors after night. Most theories of the time revolved around an animal as the culprit, some said its devil and so on. Not one theory, seem to support with strong evidence. There could be something out there, no one knows for sure.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing of such mysteries to boggle our mind.

Thank you for the sharing, I love to read a good mystery stories and unsolved mysteries, they are all the more captivating. Paranormal phenomena is interesting as helps us to open up our mind for all these unexplainable things does exist as well.

I like the thrilling mysteries story of Shanti Deva, the reincarnation of the soul is the belief, that the soul continues to exist after death through rebirth into a new body and recalls of her previous life. However, nobody in this life has knowledge of a past life.

  4. Samfoonheei on Jul 27, 2017 at 11:09 am

Wow…..interesting creepy mysteries which i do enjoyed reading for pleasure. SS Ourang Medan was a ghost ship which, according to various undocumented sources sound creepy. Its so haunted that no one wants to know and now its a forgotten story I read these before years back.
The story of Shanti Deva who she remembers who she was in her previous life. Thats interesting. There are many such stories of reincarnation and thrilling mysteries. Where all these were legends or myth we do not know. But for sure it did happened, to believe or not is up to individual which opened our minds.
    Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.

I am fascinated by the story of Gef – the talking mongoose. In Chinese folklore, it is rather common to have animal who has some spiritual attainment and will be able to transform themselves into human form and speak human language, one example that comes to mind is the famous White Snake Spirit. Thank you for this article.

  6. Swaraj on Jun 1, 2015 at 3:09 pm

Dear Rinpoche,Really very good articles and videos.I think the real name is Shanti Devi not Deva(number 10),may be by mistake.

This is creepily interesting, especially the picture Freddy Jacksons haunt me the most. Paranormal phenomena is interesting as helps us to open up our mind for all these unexplainable things does exist as well. We have “The Paranormal Zone” which is a reality based documentary series on the factual and spiritual investigations of paranormal activities led by the dynamic Li Kim.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing such an interesting story.

Dear Rinpoche, only Shanti Deva and Overtoun Bridge has a logical explanation beside these two there is no explanation. And the others that I’m more interested in this is James Worson, Felicia Felix-Mentor, SS Ourang Medan and Gef. I trying to think where has Gef been, how did Felicia Felix-Mentor came back to life and what happened to the people from SS Ourang Medan.

  9. sarahyap on Mar 15, 2013 at 12:03 am

Wow… these stories are certainly creepy! I mean, imagine the Devil’s foot print? One thing about mysteries is that it always have a hint of truth to it, just like legends. The only thing is people cannot understand or proof it’s validity or existence that causes much stir at the environment. But then when we think about it again, the only reason why we are scared about the mysteries is because we do not understand it.

Take for example, in the ancient world, when people do not know how malaria or certain viruses spread, there is always a stigma or fear towards this. But once modern science discover the actual cause, people are not scared of it anymore. So knowledge is actually the cause for not being afraid of things. Strange isn’t it? lol

  10. Sean Wang on Feb 7, 2013 at 4:09 pm

These mysteries are extremely cool. I think that all of these Mysteries are real except for the one on the Gnomes and the one of Gef. I have left a comment about the gnomes on the respective blog post.

Here are my thoughts on Gef:
    1. The guy who sees Gef could probably be hallucinating
    2. The researchers who heard Gef could have been bribed to keep the legend alive.
    3. HUmans are very likely not to be scared of Gef
    4. If Gef is a spirit then it would explain most things.

Sorry, but Chupa-Cabras as I said (literally Goat Suckers) are kind of werewolves that are said to hunt certain rural areas of Brasil (bigger than Australia), who kill and suck all the blood from their victims…UFOs that harm people emitting rays, seem to come from the famous (like Rockwell in the U.S.) Colares Episode (Colares brazilian amazon island in the state of Pará,)
where in the 70s the most strange episode with brilliant lights that harmed the natives, was investigated by brazilian air force, to no conclusion at all, the chief air force commander of the investigation (Col. Urangye Hollanda) commited suicide afterwards, some say he was killed in order not to reveal the classified conclusions of what really happenned then at Colares, here a link to a video in portuguese about this episode:
    http://www.ufo.com.br/loja/videoteca/ver/ufos-e-ets-na-amazonia/
So Chupas, aren’t little ufos who harm people.

  12. Lafayette from Brazil. on Jan 18, 2012 at 11:31 pm

I had one experience with a strange aircraft, the size of a medium car, V shaped
but which flyied ‘the other way’, that is to say, flyied with the open forks forward – against aerodynamics logic, V shaped airplanes NOW fly with the
thinest vertice (where forks meet) forward, but the ‘little craft’ who followed the car I was into, above the car, with rectangular white lights under the arms, and NO noise at all,
was flying as if the open forks forward were no hindrance…beginning of the (19)80s, after another meeting in Rio with a jewish brazilian girl who was a friend, and led some kind of occult group with me and some other boys/girls…. that night she said to us, come to the car, lets
drive upward (into the hills) to Teresopolis (town nearby Rio), we’ll make close contact with aliens this night…and so we went (her name, Patricia Wasserman), then half way to Teresopolis (about 80 kms from Rio up in the hills) this V craft appeared over the car,
and there followed us until near the resort town of Teresopolis. Once in Teresopolis Patricia who said was in contact with ‘them’ all the time and since longtime, directed us to another road, and after a while ordered the car to stop. Then asked ME to step out of the car, joking bye bye
Lafa (as she called me), which I did (stepped out of the car) and waited for something special to happen, or to see,
excited as we all (4) were because of the first experience, I turned my gaze 360 degrees around the car under beautiful bright miriad of stars…but wans’t able to detect anything else, just the late somber dark night out there.
After some 5 minutes, Patricia called me inside the car again, and we left back to Teresopolis to sleep and rest, and that was all,
I’m without a proper explanation about ‘the craft’, until today. If manned, then ‘they had to be, little men/beings’… Never saw Patricia again, or the other 2 involved (with me 4 humans), since soon afterwards.

  13. Lafayette from Brazil. on Jan 18, 2012 at 11:03 pm

Let me tell something about the aforesaid Chupa-Cabras, for what I heard and saw here in Brazil, some kind of werewolf with absolutely NO evidence at all, nothing really serious was ever found about this creature-s, wild imagination at its best or worse.
Yet I believe in gates or portals for other dimensions, caves like that I read in Lobsang Rampas romances, which exist ‘under the Potala’ Palace and that lead …to other worlds? How about the…Bermuda Triangle?

  14. Wan Wai Meng on Nov 28, 2011 at 10:43 pm

So thrilling hehe to read about unexplained mysteries. But the dog suicide bridge is very interesting, could minks drive dogs crazy enough to leapt off a bridge? Either that or a spirit or somthing supernatural that wants to lead dogs to their doom!

  15. Eliza on May 22, 2011 at 9:41 pm

Interesting : ) Mysteries are useful for opening our minds.

Dorje Shugden controversy began when the Dalai Lama made successive attempts to wrongly assert the nature of the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden to be a harmful spirit. The great lineage masters such as Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche and Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche’s teachings are amongst the greatest dharma that forms the foundation of Gelugpa education. As confirmed that Dorje Shugden is an emanation of Manjushri. Dorje Shugden is an enlightened Dharma Protector who manifested about 400 years ago from a lineage of erudite masters. They cant be wrong . Dorje Shugden via the Panglung oracle had helped the Dalai Lama in his great escape out of Tibet. There are so many highly attained lamas who practices Dorje Shugden and their reincarnations have been coming back again and again. Even 5th Dalai Lama composed a prayer to Dorje Shugden and built a Protector chapel dedicated to Dorje Shugden as well. That’s Trode Khangsar in Central Lhasa which is still there. The ban of Dorje Shugden is unnecessary and illogical as the bigger purpose of Dorje Shugden,is the preservation of the Dharma. The Tibetan Leadership (CTA) has instituted this ban against Dorje Shugden for many years and its time to lift the ban. May more people read and understand the ban and the real reason behind this controversy.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor David for sharing this post.

Panchen Sonam Dragpa a scholar ,great master, writer, abbot of all monastic universities. Well known for writing 11 definitive volumes of philosophical teachings. He was the unmistaken incarnation of the pure monk Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen who was a direct disciple of Je Tsongkhapa.Panchen Sonam Dragpa was unique in having served as abbot of the three main Gelug monasteries that is Ganden, Sera and Drepung. The only person ever to have received this honour. Panchen Sonam Dragpa’s collected works spans volumes, constituting the main textbooks which is still used today.

Troll is a being in Nordic folklore, described as trolls dwell in isolated areas of rocks, mountains, or caves, live together in small family units, and are rarely helpful to human beings. Trolling behaviors involve tactical aggression to incite emotional responses, which can adversely affect the target’s well-being. Troll represented aspects of life and nature that were beyond human control or understanding. They can be found all over Norway with mysterious rock formations and mountains with troll-like-shapes , sometimes possessing magic powers too. Reading this post had me get to know there’s other forest creatures that existed long ago. An eye opener reading it .

Dice divination, a fascinating and ancient method of fortune-telling, has been used by various cultures throughout history. Dice hold different meanings and symbolism in various religious traditions, representing chance, fate, and the connection between humans and the divine. Dice are commonly used as divination tools in modern witchcraft and are interpreted to seek insight and guidance from higher powers. Despite all the different rules and approaches, all forms of dice divination are basically the more same.
In Tibetan Buddhism there are a number of divination methods. Even within dice divination there are many forms, and these are associated with many different deities such as Manjushri, Palden Lhamo and Dorje Shugden. Dorje Shugden divination method is well known to be extremely accurate , very beneficial and effective.
Our Guru H E Tsem Rinpoche had received the entire transmission and commentary of the Dorje Shugden divination lineage from Dorje Shugden himself. One should maintain very good guru devotion and have clean samaya with our guru with ,have respect for the Dharma and have the deepest faith in the great and powerful enlightened protector Dorje Shugden to do the divination.Tsem Rinpoche has helped thousands of people through his divination methods in Malaysia. Interesting read , more to understand about it.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing with us .

Visualizing deities while meditating or when we are performing a puja is one of the principal methods used in the Tibetan tradition. Deities are highly symbolic representations of awakened minds that have appeared to past masters in visions. Deities are represented in thangkas and paintings. As more and more people embrace the Tibetan Buddhist path with sincerity and dedication, they understand better and could visualize through the practice. It is not about appeasing a deity, but engaging in formal meditational practices to transform ourselves. The actual practice in Buddhism is to purify karma, accumulate merits by way of Buddha-deity practice, and to create the causes and conditions for spiritual realisations.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor David for these great teachings.

Centuries after Buddhism originated in India, the Mahayana Buddhism arrived in China through the Silk Route. The worship of Buddha Amitabha arose from a school of Buddhism. The Origins of Pure Land Buddhism began in India around the 2nd century BCE. It spread to China and then spread to Japan around the 6th century. Buddhism in China was undoubtedly quite different from Buddhism which was originally practiced in India. In China the beginnings of the Pure Land Buddhism are traced back as far as the 4th century, practitioners meditated on the name of Amitabha. The Buddhists believe that this deity helps in regeneration and improvement and has became icons used all over China. In China, the Pure Land sutras and teachings are based on Amitabha Buddha. It then spread and became dominant in other Asian countries as well.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor David for this teachings

Niguma is considered one of the most important and influential yoginis and Vajrayana teachers of the 10th or 11th century in India. Niguma was a dakini, and one of the two female founders of the Shangpa Kagyu school of Vajrayana Buddhism. She has created. a system of yoga predominantly for women. Historically, it is the only yoga series designed by a woman. Niguma’s life, her teachings had a significant impact on Buddhism. According to scholars, Niguma had high-level realization, attained rainbow body, and even received teachings directly from Vajradhara. It is said that Niguma cultivated the Buddhist path in previous lives, so that in her lifetime she directly saw the truth of the nature of phenomena just by hearing basic phenomena from a few adept masters. Interesting life story of a great Dakini .
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor David for this great sharing.

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo is a bhikṣuṇī in the Drukpa lineage of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. She is an author, teacher and founder of the Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery in Himachal Pradesh, India. Reading this interesting post with the thought of our daily life, how laziness will bring us downhill. It is possible to overcome laziness by setting achievable goals and developing a strong work ethic. Lazy ambition is not an uncommon occurrence . Through not been lazy, it takes sweat, determination and hard work one can be successful. Laziness may reflect a lack of self-esteem, by taking the initiative doing things that matters in life such as learning dharma and practicing dharma is the best option. Letting go all unnecessary secular activities and do more to benefit others will be a better choice. Do what we can, with what we have, where we are and not excuses not to do. Accept whatever comes along, accept reality instead running away from it been lazy.
Thank you Rinpoche for this profound teachings of Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo.

A mantra is a sacred utterance, a numinous sound, a syllable, word believed by practitioners to have religious, magical or spiritual powers. They are refer as sacred words of power. Mantras are used in many spiritual traditions, they originated in the ancient scriptures. They are used up to this day in India. Anyone who recites those holy words can tap into their source and connect with sacred energy that helps to transform our minds. A tremendous blessing power that exist in all religions . When we chant mantra, the ancient sound vibrations carefully designed by the sages impact our vibrational frequency. They have precise effects on different parts of our body and energy levels. Some improve overall well-being in the body. Mantras can have a powerful impact on us and have tremendous benefits as well. Any pictures of Chenrezig will always caught my eyes on it since young. Looking at those pictures and watching the videos , had me think of how tedious training those dancers had gone through against the odds. A salute to them even though they are deaf-blind-and-mute they danced gracefully transforms into 1000 arm-chenrezig. They are a professional dancer from the China Disabled People’s Performing Arts Troupe. They learned the art of dancing through sign language with other trainers at a very young age. Determination says all.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing. An inspiring post to encourage any disable person not to give up .

Reading again the stories of Gaden Jangtse’s Jolenpa Gen Nyima, by Kyabje Tsem Tulku Rinpoche truly inspiring indeed. An extremely humble monk was not interested in titles, recognition or degrees yet highly attained Yamantaka yogi with his meditation practice .One could transform into an exalted being if we sincerely and having engage in the meditations and practices. Gen Nyima’s example shows and inspired many that humility is the basis of all attainments. Live a simple life , donated mostly all to monastery and kept little for himself. Having saved many people performing miraculous healings and giving extremely accurate divinations. Interesting reading of his miraculous healing. Wow interesting stories about Gen Nyima demonstrating his attainments to spread the Dharma and had inspired others through his Dharma teachings. Gen Nyima had spent 15 years in a Yamantaka retreat in Bhutan before returning to Gaden Jangtse Monastery.
Rejoiced to Irene Lim and few of Tsem Rinpoche ‘s students having met Gen Nyima at Gaden Monastery back in 1993.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing of a great Mahasiddha Gen Nyima.

Thank you Rinpoche and Beatrice Ooi for this sharing and explaining the details of incense. Within Tibetan Buddhism, incense has traditionally been used as an offering to the Three Jewels for centuries, so as in other Buddhist traditions. Within ritual, incense is also used to purify offering substances such as water, food and light. We offer incense as an expression of our gratitude and reverence for the Buddha’s great compassion. The practice of burning incense sticks has a dual purpose, purifying and cleansing the energy of a space. It is said that the fragrant eliminating negative impurities and creating a positive environment. In many religious practices, burning incense is believed to deepen our attention and empower our spiritual focus. The aroma of incense can help us to tap in our spiritual connections. It calms the environment and our mind, cleansing the space for inner and outer journeys. Great article.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
