The Relationship between Buddhist Tantra and Hindu Tantra

Although some scholars have maintained that Buddhist tantra was derived from Hinduism, this is not correct. The theory, prevalent among those who adhere to the tenets of the Hinayana, is based on a superficial resemblance of various elements of the two systems, such as the forms of the deities, the meditations on psychic veins and airs, the fire rituals, etc. Though certain practices, like the repetition of mantras, are common to both Hindu and Buddhist tantric traditions their interpretation, i.e. the inner meaning, is vastly different. Furthermore, Buddhist tantra is superior because, unlike Hinduism, it contains the three principal aspects of the Path: renunciation, the enlightened attitude and the right philosophy.

To elaborate: as even animals want freedom from suffering, there are non-Buddhist practitioners who wish to be free from contaminated feelings of happiness and so cultivate the preparatory state of the fourth absorption (Dhyana). There are even some non-Buddhists who temporarily renounce contaminated feelings of happiness and attain levels higher than the four absorptions. However, only the Buddhists renounce all these as well as neutral feelings and all-pervasive suffering. Then by meditating on the sufferings together with their causes, which are mental defilements, they can be abandoned forever. This is why, while non-Buddhists meditate on the form and formless states and attain the peak of worldly existence, samadhi, they cannot abandon the mental defilements of this state. So, when they meet with the right circumstances anger and the other passions develop, karma is created and the wheel of the circle of rebirth begins to turn.

Because of this and similar reasons, such practices are not fit to be included in the Mahayana. They resemble neither the common sutra path comprising: the attitude of renunciation which wishes for freedom from the cycle of rebirths; the wisdom which correctly understands egolessness, which is the right philosophy acting as an opponent to ignorance-the root of cyclic existence; and the development of the mind which aims for complete enlightenment for the sake of all sentient beings; nor do they resemble the practices of the exclusive tantric path of the Great Vehicle.

The Origin of Tantra

The tantras were spoken by the Buddha himself in the form of his supreme manifestation as a monk, also as the great Vajradhara and in various manifestations of the central deity of specific mandalas. The great beings, Manjushri, Samantabhadra, Vajrapani and others, urged by the Buddha, also taught some tantras.

In terms of the four classes of tantra, the Kriya tantras were taught by the Buddha in the form of a monk, in the realm of the thirty-three gods on the summit of Mt. Meru, and in the human world where Manjushri and others were the chief hearers.

The Pung-Zang tantras were taught in the realm of Vajrapani. Others were taught by the teacher, Buddha himself, and with his blessings some were explained by Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri and Vajrapani while others were spoken by worldly gods.

The Carya tantras were also taught by the teacher Buddha in the form of his supreme manifestation in the celestial realms and in the realm called Base and Essence Adorned with Flowers.

The Yoga tantras were taught by the Enlightened One when he arose in the form of the central deity of each mandala in such places as the summit of Mt. Meru and in the fifth celestial realm of desire.

The Anuttara tantras were also taught by the Buddha. In the land of Ögyan the Buddha, having manifested the mandala of Guhyasamaja, taught King Indrabodhi this tantra. The Yamantaka tantras were taught by the teacher Buddha at the time of the subduing of the demonic forces and they were requested by either the consort of Yamantaka or by the consort of Kalacakra. The Hevajra tantra was taught by Lord Buddha when he arose in the form of Hevajra in the land of Madgadha at the time of destroying the four maras. The tantra was requested by Vajragarbha and by the consort of Hevajra. Having been requested by Vajra Yogini, the Buddha, in the manifestation as Heruka on the summit of Mt. Meru, taught the root tantra of Heruka and, when requested by Vajrapani, taught the explanatory tantra. As for the Kalacakra tantra, the mighty Buddha went south to the glorious shrine of Dharnacotaka and there, manifesting the mandala of the Dharmadhatu speech surmounted by the mandala of Kalacakra, taught this tantra to King Chandrabhadra and others. Although he appeared in many different manifestations, actually the tantras were taught by the enlightened teacher, Lord Buddha.

What happens during an initiation

In the initiations of each of the four classes of tantra there are many differences, some great and some small, and so therefore one initiation is not sufficient for all mandalas. At the time of initiation some fortunate and qualified disciples, when receiving the initiation from a qualified master, develop the wisdom of the initiation in their mind streams. Unless this happens, sitting in initiation rows and experiencing the initiations of the vase and water, etc. will implant instincts to listen to the Dharma but little else. An initiation is necessary to study tantra because if the secrets of tantra are explained to someone who has not received initiation, the guru commits the seventh tantric root downfall and the explanation will be of no benefit whatsoever to the mind of the disciple.

The relationship between Sutra and Tantra

Regarding renunciation and bodhicitta, there is no difference between Sutrayana and Tantrayana, but regarding conduct there is. Three kinds of conduct have been taught: the disciple who admires and has faith in the Hinayana should separate himself from all desires; the disciple who admires the Mahayana should traverse the stages and practice the perfections; while he who admires the deep teachings of tantra should work with the conduct of the path of desire.

From the point of view of the philosophy, there is no difference in emptiness as an object of cognition but there is a difference in the method of its realization.

In the sutra tradition the conscious mind engages in meditative equipoise on emptiness, while in tantra the innate wisdom, an extremely subtle mind, is involved and the difference therefore is great. The main practice of Sutrayana, engaging in the path as a cause to achieve the form body and wisdom body of a buddha, is the accumulation of wisdom and virtue for three countless eons and the accomplishment of one’s own buddhafields. Therefore, Sutrayana is known as the causal vehicle. In tantra one concentrates and meditates, even while still a beginner, on the four complete purities which are similar to the result—that is, the completely pure body, pure realm, pure possessions and pure deeds of an enlightened being. Thus tantra is known as the resultant vehicle.

The Four Traditions

As for the sutra tradition, the explanation of the Hinayana and Mahayana is the same in all the four great traditions. Also, as far as the preliminary practices are concerned, there are no differences apart from the names. In the Gelug tradition they are called the Stages of the Path of the Three Motives; in the Kargyü they are known as the Four Ways to Change the Mind; the Sakya refer to Separation from the Four Attachments; while the Dri-gung Kargyu speak of the Four Dharmas of Dag-pa and the Five of Dri-gung.

In tantra, the individual master’s way of leading the disciples on the path depends on his experience and the instructions of the tantric root texts, together with the commentaries of the great practitioners. These result in the entrance into practice being taught a little differently. However, all are the same in
leading to the final attainment of the state of Vajradhara.

A clear explanation of the differences between Tantra and Sutra and what Tantra is by His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche. At for a moment I can understand a bit better. Whatever schools or whatever is the same . The ultimate goal to achieve enlightenment is to put into action not only reading it.
Thank you for this sharing. Will read this again and again to get the sight much better.

The Library of Tibetan Works and Archives is in Dharamsala, which is broken into two parts. Upper Dharamsala is where the Dalai Lama’s palace is located with his audience room and main prayer hall. It is also the location of the Dialectics School, Gaden Shartse’s guesthouse, restaurants, tourist hotels and main tourist areas.

A short ride down takes you to the lower part of Dharamsala where the Tibetan government is located. It is the location of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, Nechung monastery, the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, the Tibetan arts centre…it’s all in one area. And the reason why it’s split into upper and lower Dharamsala is because the area is mountainous.

The Library of Tibetan Works and Archives was established by the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government to preserve all the ancient texts – both secular and spiritual – of Tibet and in the process, translate them into various languages like English. This book, Overview of Buddhist Tantra, by Panchen Sonam Drakpa was one of the books translated into English. What’s very interesting is that the book very clearly says that Panchen Sonam Drakpa’s previous life is Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen, one of the five main disciples of Lama Tsongkhapa. It also says that after that, he was Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen.

So the book is basically saying that Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen, Panchen Sonam Drakpa and Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen – the three Drakpas – are of the same mindstream.

Now that’s very peculiar because if Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen’s previous life is Panchen Sonam Drakpa, the renowned composer of 45 volumes of Dharma texts, the abbot of three monasteries AND the 15th Gaden Tripa, the holder of Lama Tsongkhapa’s throne…if that’s the case, how can Panchen Sonam Drakpa take rebirth as Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen and become an evil spirit and have a negative mind?

Prior to Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen, he was Panchen Sonam Drakpa and before that, he was Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen, a heart disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa. How can a heart disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa reincarnate as the erudite master Panchen Sonam Drakpa, and then die and reincarnate as Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen…and then Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen, due to a bad and negative prayer, become the evil spirit Dorje Shugden? How is that possible? Logically, it’s not.

What’s incredible is that all of this was printed by the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives under the Dalai Lama’s guidance. They contradict themselves because on one hand, the Tibetan leaders say Dorje Shugden is an evil spirit. On the other hand they’re printing a book saying that Panchen Sonam Drakpa, whose later incarnation became Dorje Shugden, is of this illustrious mindstream.

So how can the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, which is under the auspices of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government, print the translation of a book composed by the previous incarnation of a so-called evil spirit? How can they then say in the book that Panchen Sonam Drakpa’s previous life is Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen, and his next life was Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen?

Prior to the Dorje Shugden ban and controversy, everyone in Tibet knew that Dorje Shugden is Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen, that Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen is Panchen Sonam Drakpa, and that Panchen Sonam Drakpa is Duldzin Drakpa Gyaltsen. The three Drakpas, they are one mindstream emanating again and again to benefit other beings.

And as we all know, Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen became Dorje Shugden so it totally doesn’t make sense to call him an evil spirit, then highlight all of his previous lives as erudite masters, and publish all of this information under their own library. So you can see the contradictions. You can read all of this for yourself in Overview of Buddhist Tantra, which was printed by the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives.

    OVERVIEW OF BUDDHIST TANTRA

GENERAL PRESENTATION OF THE CLASSES OF TANTRA,
CAPTIVATING THE MINDS OF THE FORTUNATE ONES

    BY
    PANCHEN SONAM DRAGPA
    (Pan-chen bSod-nams grags-pa, 1478-1554)

    O Choje Sonam Dragpa Pel! (Chos-rje bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal!)
In the vast expanse of Your bodhi-mind,
The mind that the Buddhas have lauded for as many as
    one hundred times,
You have developed “merit” shining like the sun.
Through Your skill in learning, debate and writing,
As illuminating as one hundred thousand sun rays,
You have developed in You a complete knowledge of
    the entire sutras and tantras,
Resembling a garden of flowers in full bloom.
    The power of Your speech is like the sun;
The fame of your name has reached the three realms of
    this world.
O Sonam Dragpa, the teacher of teachers!
I bow down at your feet.

In the vast garden of Your great teachings,
The intelligent young people gather for
The ‘six ultimates’ and the ‘four modes of transmission,’
Just as they are attracted to
The one hundred thousand types of nectar
Dripping from a flower of one hundred petals.
May I be able to experience
The taste of the secret tantra!

Panchen Choje Sonam Dragpa Pel (Panchen Chos-rje bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal), the holder of sutra and Vajrayana teachings, was a master whose outstanding learning and spiritual accomplishments are well known by all the learned ones in Tibet. His first incarnation came in the form of one of the five prestigious disciples of Lord Tsongkhapa (Tsong-kha-pa) and became known as Vinaya Holder (Dulzin) Dragpa Gyaltsen (Gragspa rgyal-mtshan). Then came Panchen Sonam Dragpa Pel (Panchen bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal), the author of the present text. The next was Nagri Tulku Dragpa Gyaltsen (mNga’-ris sPrul-sku Grags-pa rgyal-mtshan). In this way, a line of his incarnations, each with the Dragpa (gragspa) surname, followed successively.

Panchen Sonam Dragpa Pel (Panchen bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal) was born in the 14th century in Tsetang (rTsed-thang) in the Lhoka (Lho-kha) region of Central Tibet. He entered the great seat of learning, Sera Thekchenling (Se-ra theg-chen-gling) monastic university, where he became the personal disciple of spiritual master Donyo Dangden (Dhon-yod dang-ldan) and His Holiness the Second Dalai Lama Gedun Gyatso (dGe-‘dun rgya-mtsho). Under them, he studied the entire teachings of sutra, tantra and their commentaries, and became known for his outstanding learning. He also received from them the empowerments, reading transmissions, guides and instructions of the entire body of spiritual training. On becoming the fully blessed one, the Dalai Lama appointed him the abbot of the Loseling (Blo-gsalgling) college, one of the four colleges of Drepung (‘Bras-dpung)- the most prestigious monastic university in Tibet before 1959, with over 10,000 monks on its register. He continued to be the abbot of this college for the next six years; and after him the tenure for each of his successors in this position was fixed for a period of six years, a rule that is followed even today.

He was then appointed the head of the Gelugpa (dGe-lugs-pa) order, the throne holder of Gaden (dGa’-ldan), thus becoming the 15th regent of Lord Tsongkhapa (Tsong-khapa), the second Buddha. In his eulogy to him, Khedrub Gelek Pelsang (mKhas-grub dGe-legs dpal- bzang) says:

O Lama, the second successor of the Unsubduable One,
The regent of the Lord of Dharma,
    You are the one who made the virtuous qualities thrive;
You are the one who ascended to the golden throne uplifted
    by the fearless lions.
    May Your success thrive forever!

He continued to be the throne holder for the next seven years, during which time he promoted the spread of Lord Tsongkhapa’s (Tsong-kha-pa) precious teachings, the Gelug (dGe-lugs) tradition, across the land in all directions. He also paid special attention to the practice of monastic rules and the learning and meditation of Buddhism in the monasteries such as Sera (Se-ra), Drepung (‘Bras-spungs), Kyomolung (sKyo-mo-lung), Phagmo Chode (Phag-mo chos-sde), Nyeding (Nye-sdings), Ödna (’Od-sna) and Chöde Rinchen (Chos-sde rin-chen) etc. and improved them to a great extent. He taught the Third Dalai Lama Sonam Gyatso (bSod-nams rGya-mtsho) as the latter’s spiritual master. It was from him that the Dalai Lama received the name Sonam (bSod-nams).

His contributions in the literary field are enormous; and, indeed, they are the most valuable of all his contributions. Tsongkhapa (Tsong-kha-pa) has rightly said:

    Of all one’s deeds,
The ‘deeds of speech’ are the most valuable.

Panchen Sonam Dragpa Pel (Panchen bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal) was a person with an extraordinary talent for teaching, debate and writing. In his colophon to Bu mey chi don zab don sel wey dron mey (dBu ma’i spyi don zab don gsal ba’i sgron me), he wrote:

In the field of teaching, I am [next to none!] Knowing that
I would outdo them in this field, Arya Asanga and his
    brother transmigrated into another realm.

In the field of debate, I am [next to none!] Knowing that
I would find out the areas they had contradicted and
that I would examine them and put forth my arguments,
the logician Dignaga (Digh-naga) and Dharmakirti tactfully
    bypassed me.

In the field of writing, I am [next to none!] [In my eyes,]
Arya-sura was just good at spreading the works, which
are like ‘disputes~ between an insect and a field.’

I am the learned man. Peerless in the field of teaching,
    debate and writing!

For some this passage might sound utterly nonsensical, but the most learned master of our age, the talented teacher, logician and writer, the late tutor to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Yongdzin Trijang Dorjechang (Yongs-‘dzin Khri-byang rDorje-‘Chang), said: “Now, some people of our time, who consider themselves learned scholars, think that this is utter nonsense; but they are wrong.”

Panchen Sonam Dragpa Pel (Panchen bSod-nams grags-pa-dpal) wrote over 45 volumes of books dealing with many different subjects, such as the commentaries on the sutras and tantras, the saddhana manuals of the tutelary deities, history, religious history and so forth. Among these, one that is very important for all who wish to learn and meditate on the path-of the practical aspect of Buddhism in general and that of Vajrayana in particular is the Leg shey gyu de chi nam par shagpa kelsang gi yi trod (Legs bshad rgyud sde spyi’i rnam par bzhag pa skal bzang gi yid ‘phrod). In this book, he has explained precisely how the four tantras differ from one another. He has also fully described the stages of the two spontaneous path practices of the Vajrayana tradition, dealing with the ‘six ultimates’ and the ‘four modes of transmission’, thus interpreting without mistake the intention of Adhi-Buddha Vajradhara.

May the reprint of this text, which the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives is publishing herewith, bring peace and happiness in this world!

This is a good explanation between Buddhist and non Buddhist teaching and the explanation on Tantra and Sutra, especially the origins of the four Tantras. Thank you Rinpoche.

Reminds me of the saying, “we all climb the same mountain but approach from different directions”. The various vehicles and schools of Buddhism have different approaches but teaches the teachings of Buddha Shakyamuni. Thus we should strive to stay on a particular approach lest we get confused and delayed trying to find another approach. This will only lead to a lateral progress or no progress at all.

Thank you also for sharing this article and clearing up the misconception that the Buddhist Tantra is a derivative of the Hindu tantra.

His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche has utmost authority on sutra and tantra. This article provides clear explanation on the various tantra, difference between sutra and tantra and the various practices. There are many ways to enlightenment, there is no one single way. Hence we should respect all practices and all religions.

This article truly explains why the differences between the Tantra and Sutra. It also explains clearly about the Tantra, allowing us to understand what is Tantra better.

Through this article it has also clarified my doubts as to if there is only one way to achieve enlightenment. H.H Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche has reassured us that there are many ways to enlightenment. There is no such thing as there is only a single way.

When I first saw HH Trijang Rinpoche’s picture in the old KPSS2, I gazed upon his image for a very long time and I could feel that this was no ordinary monk and must be a super human/lama. That time Rinpoche has not spoken to me about Trijang Rinpoche before. I have not even heard his name. His picture was so filled with warmth, compassion and wisdom and it was very alive! Then later I found out from Rinpoche who He is and it was mind blowing to know that Trijang Rinpoche was actually the Buddha’s chariot driver Chandra. I cannot believe this was possible cos I was new to Buddhism, but I believe that if Rinpoche says so then it is so and because you can feel just through his picture, this person was extraordinary!

Thank you Rinpoche for this explanation on various aspects of tantra by Trijang Rinpoche. We are truly so fortunate to be able to receive such knowledge from such a highly attained being.

One thing rings truth on this subject is that all roads eventually leads to one ultimate goal and to achieve that one must apply the teachings otherwise from which ever school of thought it comes from, it will just be dry scholastic knowledge. So whichever road we choose to take it dependent on our ability (level of mind) and the methods we use to get there. Of course Tantra being the quicker path to get to the destination, hence we will need to be trained more intensely with a qualified trainer – here being the “teacher” on the path to enlightenment.

This article gives a very clear explanation of what Tantra is, the differences between Tantra and Sutra. It gives a very clear message that whether it is Sutra or Tantra, whether it is Mahayana or Hinayana, whether it is Gelug or Kagyu or Sakya or Drigung Kagyu, they all lead the practitioners to enlightenment. No one is better than the other.

Anything composed by HH Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche we can fully rely on and trust. He is beyond doubts and beyond question. One of the greatest living scholars, yogi, monk and teacher of our time. He even composed the National Anthem being used today for Tibetans in exile. His incarnation stem back to being the personal Chariot driver of Buddha, Chandra.
In Tibet of yesteryears, they will not select just anyone to educate HH the 14th Dalai Lama. Well Trijang Rinpoche was chosen and passed knowledge to HH Dalai Lama for 30 successful years.
How beneficial HH Dalai Lama is to countless beings is beyond measure, from one cup poured into another, Trijang Rinpoche was infinitely kind to offer His everything to HH Dalai Lama. Incredible.
The first time I saw Trijang Rinpoche’s photo in Howell, New Jersey over 3 decades ago, I just cried and cried and cried..I don’t know why. I didn’t really know who he was and was too young to understand. But seeing His holy face made me cry so much..Tsem Rinpoche

The Lamrim said that Buddhas manifest in myriad forms and skilfully teach at different levels according to the disposition of individuals. This article gives a very concise explanation of the different approaches to teaching and philosophies depending on the mental capacity and motivation of different people.
It is very helpful to dispel doubts and confusion amongst students of the different schools of Buddhism.Yes, I am printing this article out to read it daily.

Even when talking on the various aspects of tantra, Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche mentions clearly the types of suffering that one needs to be free from. For us that are still in samsara and experience suffering knowingly or not, the recognition of the types of suffering is a necessary early step of the path, and one could not make sense of higher trainings without engaging in the practice of renunciation first, which requires a correct understanding of what is meant by “suffering” in buddhist teachings (at least intellectually).
Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche also explains the differences between the practices of Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana in a concise, yet accute way that I never encountered before.
I feel like printing this out and reading it daily with my saddhanas for a while, so that I can absorb it best!

When’s the last time you heard the cliched and tired saying “all roads lead to rome”? Well, here’s another variation – “All paths lead to the same result”
When I was young, I used to always think that there was only one God, and he showed himself in different ways for different types of people, and recommended different methods in order to achieve the ultimate. And I never understood why people loved to argue about which religion is more superior, because fundamentally, all religions tell us to be good kind people.
Now that I have immersed myself in Buddhism, I was initially surprised to find out that there are so many different schools of thought, and different Lineages. And although I know that they lead to the same result, it is reassuring to read that statement in the words of trijang Rinpoche himself.

Interesting read of Dr R Nyamaa ‘s biography. Dr R Nyamaa been the very first Mongolian woman doctor of bone tuberculosis. She is a multifaceted woman who works to empower herself and empower others. To be a doctor at those days is definitely brave and courageous. A great teacher having brought many changes to the medical world, introducing many new initiatives and practices in the field of training and treatment. She did published more than 60 articles in research reports, edited 4 manuals and 4 textbooks for students and doctors. She held several post and had received many rewards for her work in medical fields. She continued to serve at the First State Medical Centre till her retirement. Interesting read .
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Before reading this post I used to think witches are women wearing black and pointed hats having evil or wicked magical powers. They practice and believes to have supernatural skills and abilities such as the casting of spells. Interesting read of this post very informative indeed. I understand better now the role of witches and they have nothing to do with worshipping something negative. Many people have a lot of misconception regarding witches in fact. Through history and long ago they have been prejudiced but not now many came to realise they deserve understanding and respect. Clear and detail explanation watching those videos.
Thank you Rinpoche for this interesting sharing.

The lady in red is all about stories of what happened to the two robbers arriving at doorstep of an old but regal inn named Redgrave Inn. Tragedy then befallen on one of the robbers Gareth. As they were checking in the attic for the night they saw a painting of a lady in a red gown feeling sad. Having misunderstandings the other robber Joseph left. Strange indeed Gareth went missing nowhere to be seen. Months later Joseph still could not make sense of what really happened went back to get the whole history of this strange lady in red. Interesting the paintings which Joseph saw now the lady in red is with his friend Gareth . Recording to the former owner then there’s many strange things had happened at Redgrave Inn before Gareth’s disappearance. Sound scary but interesting read .

Beautiful and inspiring story which will touch the hearts of many . Been growing up in a family who against Tem Rinpoche for practicing Dharma is really hard and difficult one could imagined. How Rinpoche had the determination and will power to over come those obstacles he endured . Choosing his family and choosing Dharma , Rinpoche choose the later. Nor matter what happened Rinpoche somehow managed to practice Dharma under H E Kensur Rinpoche Lobsang Tharchin his first Dharma teacher. It was because of Kensur Rinpoche that Rinpoche stayed with Geshe-la, studied under him before going to India to become a monk. Not only that later meeting root guru H H Kyabje Zong Rinpoche.
After years visiting Rashi Gempil Ling, the temple of Rinpoche’s childhood again and not been able to enter to temple Rinpoche offered prayers and three prostrations on the sidewalk remembering his guru’s kindnesses. Bittersweet moment Rinpoche felt not able to visit the temple again .
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this with us.

The three values of Olympism are excellence, friendship and respect. About coming together in the spirit of sportsmanship, the competition between countries from all over world. It wasn’t just the athletic ability, it was their moral courage competing in the Olympics as a once in a lifetime opportunity for them.
Olympic hurdler, Liu Xiang from China a sporting idol had won after China’s first ever male track and field Olympic gold medal. In the last Olympics due his recurring injury had forced not able to perform well. Despite crashing on the first hurdle he continued with much pain hopped onto the track, kissed his final hurdle before he made it to the finishing line. His courage and determination had won the heart of many in the stadium and back home. He had showed an example of good sportsmanship and being able to lose gracefully.

An animal testing is known as testing of live animal in any scientific experiment. A live animal is likely to suffer pain, distress and lasting harm in the procedure . Animals used in laboratories are deliberately harmed, and are usually killed at the end of the experiment. It is cruel and inhumane to experiment on animals, that alternative methods available to researchers can replace animal . I am sure there are other methods as now the world is so advance in their technology. Animals should not be used in research or to test the safety of products. Thankfully, the development of non-animal methods is growing, and fast. Due to innovations in science, animal tests are being replaced in areas such as toxicity testing, neuroscience and drug development.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing to bring awareness of these animals testing which should be banned.

When we see the world through serene eyes, we generate peace wherever we go. A message of peace, respect and love towards others is at the heart of all of the major world religions. Listen with the intent to understand, be helpful, caring to others nor matter what race and religion or faith. Glad that a dialogue between Catholic and Buddhist religious and social action leaders coming together at Vatican. All participants living in America from New York City, Chicago, San Francisco and so forth .
Religion is about increasing peace and harmony in the world. … People of all different religions should be given the opportunity to pursue good in their own way. Quoted Aung San Suu Kyi

All suffering is in fact the result or fruit of negative emotions such as attachment, greed, jealously, pride, anger, and hatred. The five afflictive emotions are the source of suffering. Pride leads to unhappiness in long run. Letting go of these instead of clinging on to it will lead us to nowhere. A profound teachings …….as quoted The letting go is from clinging on to the afflictive emotions, the anger, jealousy, feelings of unjust treatment, which all stems from our self-cherishing mind. Remembered the kindness the Guru has shown us and what we will never give up nor matter what happened. I am still plenty to learn.

Heard stories from senior students of Rinpoche about assignment that had changed their lives. Reading this post tells us more through the eyes of Joy Kam. Some understandings learned from it. The little assignments which many have taken it for granted actually helps to change our karmic situation. Rinpoche wanted us to realize later on but not now from a particular assignment. What Rinpoche did there is always a reason behind it which many might not understand till later on. Rinpoche knows best, always cares for everyone and help us to improve, grow in our spiritual path. And also helped us to purify certain karma . Interesting read

Beautiful and famous story of a learned master Geshe who loved butter . Even though he loves butter so much yet as he has kept his commitments, and engaged in Dharma studies, doing sadhana and retreats he is able to ascend to Kechara Paradise. Wow ……the Geshe’s attachment was transformed into a powerful aspiration to take rebirth in a Pure Land.
Butter tea is a traditional Tibetan drink and it is severed in all household has become a necessity. There are many benefits drinking butter tea such as at high altitudes , boost immunity and energy ,an appetite suppressant and so forth.
The goal of any spiritual person is to strive towards attaining self-realization. We should be free from anxiety and distress, unencumbered by frivolous affections, and liberated from specious attachments. Nothing in life is permanent. Keeping our commitments, and always engaged in Dharma activities. Once we dominate ourselves through consciousness, the attachments disappear. Attachment comes from the accumulated past. The things we are attached to are no more than shadows of the past. The story of the Geshe indeed an inspiration and example for us .
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor David for this beautiful post.

Foie gras is a specialty food product made of the liver of a duck or goose. Well its as an expensive, and luxury foods for some and only sold in high-end restaurants. Eating foie gras is unhealthy for humans. If one have seem how it was make , one will definitely not eating it. Duck or goose are kept in small crowded cages cramped together. This is accomplished by force-feeding corn to the animals using a feeding tube. Can imagine how cruel, pumping pounds of grain and fat into their stomachs causing the livers to swell and abdomens become distended. They mistreated and tortured inside foie gras factories all over the world. Now more countries came to realised the painfully method and begin to ban the practice of foie gras production. Nothing can describe such barbaric practice nor can such practice ever be justified. Celebrities like Roger Moore and so forth are now using their fame to speak up for the good of others. That’s wonderful.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing to bring awareness.

Watching this rare video of Oracle tells all. Its fantastic indeed. I have not seem one yet hopefully in future. Consulting oracles has been practised since ancient times. In Tibetan Buddhism the practice is special unique and even till to this days consulting oracles continues to play a major roles in the lives of practitioners. Oracles serve as a guide for Tibetans in political decisions, predictions about natural forces, healing and so forth. They are also sometimes used as protectors. It was the oracles that gave the Dalai Lama specific advice on how to escape Tibet during the Chinese invasion in 1959. Many oracles used to be present in Tibet, but their numbers have decreasing as a result of various factors. Interesting watch….a rare video.

Is it right? Well its not right most of us would said it. Life is life’s greatest gift. The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated. Love the animals , they are one of us. No matter how few possessions we own or how little money we have, loving wildlife, caring and nature will make us rich beyond measure. Animals are our friends and companions. Choosing vegetarians on our menu is the right choice.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing, a reminder for us to give love and care to all animals. Do not harm them ,go meatless at least .

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

Find one of the most beautiful temples in the world in Nara, Japan. It is the 1,267 year old Todai-ji temple that houses a 15 meter Buddha Vairocana statue who is a cosmic and timeless Buddha. Emperor Shomu who sponsored this beautiful temple eventually abdicated and ordained as a Buddhist monk. Very interesting history and story. One of the places everyone should visit- https://bit.ly/2VgsHhK

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer

Underprivileged residents of two PPRs in Kuala Lumpur recently received a total of 427kg from our longterm surplus produce sponsor, Lotuss Stores (formerly Tesco Stores). The 65 families are our regular beneficiaries, and are grateful to receive fresh vegetables on a consistent basis right at their doorstep. One of our recipients, Rajeswari, 52, single mother of 2 children, shared that she stopped receiving welfare aid due to unforeseen circumstances. Her words: "Saya cakap untuk Kechara [Soup Kitchen] banyak terima kasih sebab kasi makanan. Dan lebih mau tolong orang lain yang susah seperti saya".
