Datin Jennifer with her great helpers

Dear friends,

Recently, I had a group of people over at Haven to work on an exciting project. There were many people who came and Datin Jennifer was one of them who offered to help out.

Datin Jennifer is the mother of Jamie. She is a very kind and generous lady. Not only is she a sponsor of many Kechara departments and activities, she also strongly supports her daughter’s Dharma work AND maintains her own spiritual practice at home. I like Datin Jennifer very much…

Datin Jennifer is a lady of many talents… One of them being cooking! She loves to cook and feed people also *animals. Whenever she steps into the kitchen, she is all equipped to cook up a storm for at least 20 people… hehe. While she was at Haven the other day, she decided to bake a cake for everyone who were working very hard.

Datin Jennifer has promised to come to where I live (ladrang) a certain amount of times per month every month. It is her contribution/commitment and her dharma work among other practices she is doing. Everyone can contribute to Dharma in their own special way…We have over 15 persons in the ladrang dept and they are always hungry…she is like a mama bird bringing food to the nest and all 15 chicks have their mouths wide open..hehehehe..I welcome Datin Jennifer very much.

While she was at it, a group of my younger students decided to help her out… did they really help her out or mess things out? Watch the video below to find out!

P.S. Datin Jennifer loves animals…

Datin Jennifer is a very lovely and helpful lady. She is always very cheerful and happy. Jamie must be really proud of her mama. <3
Thank You for sharing such a lovely video Rinpoche.
    Love, beatrix.

This is so funny! It was so fun helping with the baking. The product was very delicious! Hehe! Datin Jennifer’s reaction was very funny, she looked bored and amused at the same time. She was probably wondering why was everyone so interested!

  4. Lucas Roth on Feb 21, 2013 at 11:12 pm

Datin jennifer is so nice and caring. every time i see her she has a huge smile on her face :D. her helpers are nice too, but be careful Jutika can be tricky… hehe. They are all very nice people and i am so sure we all like them.

  5. Jean Mei on Jan 31, 2013 at 6:11 pm

I LOVE IT whenever Datin Jennifer comes over. She’s such a lovely lady who’s always chatty, bubbly and in a cheery mood. She comes prepared to cook with her additional cutleries, and whenever she walks into Rinpoche’s Ladrang she has 5 big bags of ingredients. You’d think that she was cooking up a feast!

She jokes that she doesn’t know how to cook in small portions, but really, it looks like she’s cooking for an army. When there are 20 people in the Ladrang, she’d cook for 50.

When people say that they don’t know how to contribute to the Dharma, Datin Jennifer shows that there’s always a way. She does what she can do, and pushes herself to do more.

She can cook very well, and offers her culinary skills to feed the younger ones who (unfortunately) have very pathetic culinary skills! lol

It’s always a treat to have Datin Jennifer around 🙂

  6. wei theng on Dec 17, 2012 at 4:21 am

Hahaha, this is really funny and cute!

Datin Jeniffer is not just a good cook, but a great accountant too! She is very inspiring to me as she has no ego at all with her being the professional accountant, instead, she is always very humble, generous, loving and she is kind to all around her as well as to dogs. Her dogs are just like her sons! Her Guru devotion to Rinpoche is also very strong. She just followed the instructions given by Rinpoche do it diligently be it to do her mantra or to spend a few days a week to be at Rinpoche’s Ladrang. She will just do it with a smiling face and do it with her 100% effort!

May she always healthy and close to Rinpoche!

  7. Milly on Nov 21, 2012 at 10:06 pm

All the laughter and happy faces while mixing the ingredients will sure turn out to be a yummy cake. Good vibes. Datin Jennifer is a very kind lady and one can feel this energy when around here. I admire Datin’s bubbly and kind personality.

  8. Cynthia Ng on Jun 25, 2012 at 11:31 pm

    好有趣!由小到老一起共度佛法欢乐时光,这就是真正的佛法!想请问那次的蛋糕成功烘制成功吗?? 😀

  9. Yoke Fui on Jun 25, 2012 at 6:12 am

Datin Jennifer is a warm and caring auntie for all the younger Kecharians. It’s not surprising why all the little “monsters” are naturally drawn towards her.

She always baked a few cakes and gave them to the annual Kechara Wesak Fair for fund raising purpose.

She has always been supportive of all the different departments of Kechara and we all love her !

  10. Karen C. on Jun 15, 2012 at 10:38 pm

OH I definitely love Datin Jennifer’s food!! I love her lemon cake! Super yummy 😀 Other than food, she is an extremely nice and elegant lady who speaks well and is very devoted to Rinpoche.

Agreed with Bryan, the 3 kind ladies he mentioned are super mama. They contribute to Dharma with their talents in cooking. They not only always offer food to Rinpoche, they would also cook for us to eat. This shows that they are not selfish at all and they really take care of this big family in Dharma like their own family.

  11. deborah on Jun 14, 2012 at 2:33 pm

She really is one of the loveliest people I’ve met. Her warmth and kindness is deep and so real, you feel it instantly.
She only met me a few times, but after the first time she greeted me as if she’s known me forever.
LEW- ya 0.54 -0.56, her expression was priceless

  12. june ksjc on May 15, 2012 at 2:49 am

  13. Adrian Cho on May 14, 2012 at 6:35 pm

They are so happily and enjoying baked cakes…
The boys is so excited and so funny…haha

  14. James Long on May 12, 2012 at 5:14 pm

Just like all the 84 mahasiddha, they all have their unique way to gain enlightenment, but most important is Guru Devotion, believe and trust the Guru. Datin Jennifer is very down to earth and gentle lady, who LOVES to cook nice food for people and she is a pet lover..all the mumu in her house are mostly “out of shape”….lol

  15. Pastor Chia on May 12, 2012 at 5:08 pm

Datin Jeniffer always so kind with people and animal. she can’t stand watching people or animal hungry. all her dog are feed well and healthy. We are so lucky having she around cooking for rinpoche and ladrang staff.

  16. Albert on May 12, 2012 at 2:08 pm

haha, this is so cute and so funny, working in Dharma, when we work with a group of “interesting” people, it can be very fun too. everyone has different personality, but everyone can still work together, isn’t this beautiful??

Datin sure was thinking, will i able to finish cooking with their help or not. They must be in great help… lol

  17. Tenzin Kyabsum on May 12, 2012 at 2:08 am

How fun to able to bake our way to enlightenment! To be honest, the batter do look kind of unappetizing. LOL! Too bad Jamie did not take a picture of the end result. Bet the cake was delicious.. Hey, how about baking some cakes and sending some over to the other departments, Datin Jennifer? hehe!

  18. Darren on May 11, 2012 at 7:11 pm

They sure do having fun baking the cake. But i m worry of extra unwanted ingredient in the cake lol.

  19. Junior on May 10, 2012 at 8:17 pm

Datin Jennifer is amazing example of kindness..

  20. abby F on May 10, 2012 at 6:29 pm

That day Datin Jennifer told me that she loves to cook very much! ( im sure all of us know this well) I can see Datin Jennifer, the small kids and ‘big kids’ are enjoying themselves there.

What Rinpoche said is right, everyone can contribute to Dharma in their own special way. No matter how old or how young you are,you can always help and bring happiness to others!

  21. jp on May 10, 2012 at 12:53 pm

Datin Jennifer is a very sweet friend of mine. It was through Datin Jennifer whom I met her daughter, Jamie aka Paris. Jamie introduced me to Rinpoche. That was more than 5 years ago. Time flies.

Datin Jennifer cooks very well. She used to fill up her dining table with food during our gatherings. She’d feed us non stop. Even her dogs are all fat! hehe

  22. wan on May 9, 2012 at 6:04 pm

Datin Jennifer is a sweet, gentle lady..
    i love her cake too..

Thank you Datin Jennifer for baking cake at haven. People there work very hard twenty four-seven so they deserve deliciousssss cake..yummy

  23. patsy on May 9, 2012 at 11:21 am

Hahaha so the “suppose to be a chocolate cake” turned out well and tasted good also. It should be when it is prepared with so much love, sweat and laughter.

  24. wah ying on May 8, 2012 at 11:28 pm

  25. Erickksiow on May 8, 2012 at 11:23 pm

Datin Jennifer really spend her times to cooked for everyone in Haven. Proud of Jamie. :))

    Best Regards : Erickksiow

  26. Davin on May 8, 2012 at 6:34 pm

They looks excited and happy helping Datin to stir up to make the cake. Datin patiently waited for them. Its remind me when I help my mom to cook. It was very happy moment.

  27. MayOng on May 8, 2012 at 11:46 am

I hope the cake turned out well with all those human muscle whipping, turning, folding LOL

  28. tenzin llhamo on May 8, 2012 at 1:13 am

The boys really look excited! I wonder how was the cake? Must be delicious, with so many elves to help out! Am sure Datin was just thinking to herself : “it’s just mixing, why so super excited?” Hahaha…
Datin is always super sweet and nice. 1 day must try her cake, am sure it’s super nice!

  29. Doris Tan on May 7, 2012 at 9:22 pm

Omb.. I hope the cake is edible. But it is quite a fun video to watch. =)

  30. Angelshooi on May 7, 2012 at 9:02 pm

OMB! very exciting and real fun to see them baking cake.

Datin Jennifer was patiently waiting for her assistance to mix the cake. The chocolate cake would have tasted with extra ingredients.

  31. Paris on May 7, 2012 at 7:17 pm

My mummy! This is true about how she loves feeding people and being constantly worried about people not having enough food. We have a joke in our home that she cooks enough for armies each time she steps into the kitchen. She’s found the right place to feed people now @ the Haven. If you’re all wondering why I can never lose weight, part of this is because my mother keeps making delicious food that I can never say no to (hey, it would hurt her feelings if I didn’t eat it all right?!)

And yes, she is just as worried about feeding dogs as she is with humans – perhaps more so. She’s the biggest sucker for a sad story about a dog or a cat, or anything furry with four legs and a tail. There’s a lovely story here about how she adopted a tiny little Schnauzer rescued by Rinpoche, called Gonkar: http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/animals-vegetarianism/baby-gongkar-finds-a-home.html
And thank god she did – Gonkar has a tremendous amount of medical problems and if he didn’t make it into a good, caring home, he would have surely died. He’s now in good health, rather fat and very noisy.

Mum is now also coming into Haven to volunteer and cook for us at the Haven twice a week. She’s helping out with Ladrang accounts too because she rocks the accounting world (you would never guess I’m her a daughter, being so completely inept with figures).

She’s also learning how to use the computer, to read blogs and comments – which is amazing because she’s terrified of even turning on a computer.

I’m so proud to call her my mum, for all she has done and for the amazing example of kindness she has shown me my whole life. More about mumsy here: http://theeffortlessbeauty.com/wordpress/?p=295)

Best of all, I know she’s reading these posts about her and SHE IS TOTALLY EMBARRASSED MUAHAHAHAHAHAH.

    I LOVE YOU MUPPET xxxxxx

  33. wt on May 7, 2012 at 3:52 am

hahah, serving Lama is not just a serious job, it can be fun too! 😛
btw, Datin Jennifer is very inspiring. She is very humble and strong in Guru devotion.

  34. Pastor Yek Yee on May 6, 2012 at 10:57 pm

Datin Jennifer baking a chocolate cake, oh no! It’s will be so delicious…I ate the cookies that cooked by Datin Jennifer. It is so delicious. Until today, I still can remember the smell haha…I like Datin Jennifer because she like everyone mother, even though I not so close with her, but I can her motherly”smell”. I am happy Datin Jennifer be more and more involve dharma activities. I think the precious gift Paris gave to her mum is DHARMA.I AM REJOICE!!!

  35. Bryan on May 6, 2012 at 9:39 pm

I love Datin Jennifer… and her famous line is “Don’t call me Datin or Aunty, just call me Jennifer”. She is such a wonderful and sweet lady, but most important she cook VERY NICE FOOD !!! We have few great “cooks” that always come into Haven and cook for us.

Being a “British Lady” Jennifer always cooked us western food, such as pasta, cakes and etc. She is my Princess Diana. Another wonderful lady Mrs. Chuah, who is Ms. Chuah Su Ming’s mum also always come in and cook for us. Mrs. Chuah is in charge of Asian food… I believe a lot of us have tried Mrs. Chuah’s Tom Yam and chinese soup…

Recently Fiona Ng, another volunteer that regularly help up in Kechara Care also started to cook food for us, and her famous dish is Black Vinegar Eggs…

Three of this ladies are house wife, and they still find their way to contribute to the dharma, they can’t do much physical works like moving things around, but they still spent their time to do something to care for others. I love three of them very much (not only because of their food), and i hope three of them always healthy and blessed with Buddha.

    Thanks

    • DR on May 9, 2012 at 9:56 pm

I like what you wrote Bryan; eventhough these ladies are unable to do much physical work, yet they did not make excuses but find other ways to contribute to dharma work. Just like in a monastery, monks who can teach will teach. Those who can raise funds will travel overseas to do that. Those who can do administration work will be the changtso. Then there are other monks who clean and cook.

In Kechara, we have it all too. All due to the kindness of Rinpoche who created so many departments and is still constantly coming up with ideas so that anyone and everyone can contribute to the dharma.

I agree with you that Datin Jennifer’s cakes, Mrs Chuah’s soup and Fiona’s hard boiled eggs in black vinegar and ginger is super yummy! Oh dear, suddenly I am hungry again…..

  36. Lim Han Nee on May 6, 2012 at 5:56 pm

So finally it wasn’t the case of too many cooks…..The cake did turn out to be delicious, with Datin Jennifer’s magical hands!Anyway, all the young helpers looked so keen and seemed to be having fun too!

Yes, Datin is a lovely, warm bubbly person whose compassion towards animals is rare. I remember her adopting George, the stray dog, who’d been hanging outside Kechara Care for quite a while, before that. When George fell very ill, she had a Menlha done for him. Recently, unfortunately, George passed away. But , because of Datin Jennifer’s kindness and love, he was in pain and suffering for only a while before he died.Datin Jennifer, I love you for the unconditional love you showed George and all your pets and adopted stray dogs under your care.

  37. Victor Phang on May 6, 2012 at 5:22 pm

Even though I don’t have the chance to taste the cake but it is “delicious” as well to see all the smiling faces… very “Sweet” cake 🙂
    Thank you for sharing Rinpoche.
    Take good care,
    With love,
    VP

  38. hecelus tan on May 6, 2012 at 5:06 pm

She is a good example for all of us,she always spend her time on meaningful activity like Rinpoche have mentioned before,I think can help in Dharma is great,I also wish I will have the opportunity to work for Dharma in future.

  39. henry ooi on May 6, 2012 at 2:39 pm

I’m sure that chocolate cake must have tasted better with extra ingredients from those clowns’ saliva and perspiration dripping from their hands into the bowl! LOL!

And at one point, Datin Jennifer with her chin resting on one hand must have thought “Oh, what the heck!” LOL!

  40. mayy on May 6, 2012 at 2:36 pm

Haha….See how Datin Jennifer looks upon the “human cake mixer” mixing the cake! Was wondering the cake would turn out well. It is always FUN to have Datin Jennifer to bake and cook. In fact, her food is delicious! Can’t wait to have a chomp on Datin’s next food party.

  41. Girlie on May 6, 2012 at 11:36 am

Look at all the happy faces – I am sure they all lighted up when the tasted the fruit of their hard work.

  42. Ashlee on May 6, 2012 at 11:25 am

Haha..after how the boys stirred the mixture left and right..glad to know that the cake turns out well. Datin Jen must have used a fool proofed recipe..haha. She was certainly look bored and probably wondering why the boys are so excited over a choc cake mixture. Heh! Heh!

  43. William C on May 5, 2012 at 5:17 pm

Datin Jennifer is a great cook. Her food is yummy. Just a few days ago, she brought over a big pot of “Tau Yew Bak” (Black Soya Sauce Pork)- vegetarian of course. She is such a happy and bubbly lady who enjoys making others happy. We are very lucky to have her cook for Rinpoche and us…… Thank you Datin Jennifer!!!

Reading this article it gave a clear pictures of how many animals been slaughtered for human’s menu. The simple act of becoming a vegetarian will make a difference in the health of our environment. When we become more mindful of what we have on our menu every day, that mindfulness will seep into everything we do. Many people choose a vegetarian diet out of concern, to stay healthy, saving animals and environment as well.
What is important , give the animals a chance, respect them and to do harm them. May more people realized how many thousands or millions of animals be saved if they go on being a vegetarian.
Thank you Rinpoche for bringing awareness with this article..

Our Lama Tsem Rinpoche was a gift to us and the Tibetan Buddhism world who just keeps on giving , teaching Dharma and cares more than himself. Rinpoche was definitely one Lama that gives much more than another one else. Well known for his compassion, Rinpoche had guild rather train his students from day one where they are today. Rinpoche had observed , on the lookout to assist and encourage anyone of us and friends. Rinpoche had used the ‘new news’ an exercise to develop greater awareness of people and situations around. Wonderful way , to instill the positive qualities of compassion and awareness in us. Reading this post , I learn something new.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor David .

Having a Dorje Shugden shop at Petaling street, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia will definitely benefits more and more local people as well as foreigners especially the tourist from across the globe. Many people will get to know and understand the Powerful Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden of our time. Many people who see the protector or passing by will be blessed as it is located at the famous tourist spot of China town. More people are connected to Dorje Shugden and will have the seeds planted into their mind. Rejoice.
This is a best gift for our Lama Tsem Rinpoche on his birthday.

This is probably the best I’ve ever seen, marvelous creation, very realist with brilliant idea. I like the idea of Julian Beever, working in open air with public attraction. This job definitely takes a lot of patience and hats off to this extraordinary creativity.

Thank you for the wonderful sharing of a talented artist and his amazing art work.

With our integrity intact, life is less stressful and far less complicated. This is not applying in secular but also in the spiritual practice. If someone who does not have integrity will surely not earn respects from his peers.
Integrity is very important in our life. It also a good habit for us to cultivate and take as reminder to ourselves that we need to keep hold to our promises in all aspect of chores we are doing.

Chatral Rinpoche was one of the greatest meditation masters and most compassionate bodhisattvas in the history of Tibetan Buddhism. Chatral Rinpoche explains the purpose and benefit of saving the lives of endangered animals, especially those due to be slaughtered. Great advice by Chatral Rinpoche to develop compassion for all sentient beings . Save animals, save nature, as animal life is precious too. He lived as a humble yogi without the distractions of fame and fortune. He practiced what he preaches without compromise and was beloved , respected by many of all faiths throughout the Himalayan region. He was well known for his compassion for animals through his compassionate action and profound wisdom. He had liberate millions of fish animals and had encourages his student not to eat meat and drank alcohol. It’s a right choice to be on vegetarian , as more animals will be save. It be healthier for us, better for environment and kinder to be a vegetarian.
Powerful saying by Chatral Rinpoche ……Eating meat in one’s diet is much different than eating flesh to liberate a being through supernatural powers. I am just an ordinary practitioner. I would be committing sin and I would be getting negative karma.
Thank You for this sharing Rinpoche and Pastor Loh Seng Piow.

When i first read this article I did wonder too , how this ever happen. Somehow its real, a geological phenomenon where rocks move without human interference. Known as “sailing stones,” the rocks vary in size from a few ounces to hundreds of pounds. One of the world’s strangest phenomena is at Death Valley National Park in Inyo County, California, U.S. Till today, scientists could not have an answer to this strange phenomena where nobody have seen it moving at all.
    Thank you for this sharing.

Animal abuse frequently occurred in a number of area. Its heart breaking looking at the pictures of that extreme animal and neglect case of a dog in this article . The abused dog was packed in a plastic bag and thrown down a trash chute in the 22-story building. So inhuman for someone to do that . Not only that the dog was under un nourishment, thin, dehydrated and looks more than a skeleton. The condition was so bad that the dog needs a blood transfusion. Thanks to the maintenance workers who found Patrick in the neat of time. Looking at those pictures one will be definitely shocking to see his condition. Thankfully, that poor dog named Patrick is recovering well after been nursed by the hospital staffs. Its one of the worst cases of abuse they’ve seen. A dog is men best friends , shouldn’t be abuse or harm them. Give them love, care as if they are one of us.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

The famous saying “What goes around, comes around”, karma in short is action and every action is preceded by our thoughts. Hence what we think continuously about something will eventually lead to action and the result. Its our mind that is responsible for our karma. Reading this post it has helped me and many of us to understand that we create our own reality or karma. I have book marked these so as i can read it time from time to remind myself. still plenty to catch up.
Thank you Rinpoche for this profound teachings with folded hands.

Chatral Rinpoche was a Dzogchen master and a reclusive yogi known for his great realization and strict discipline. Beautiful and meaningful poems, all I can say the poem is full of wisdom. All animals deserves a life free from fear and pain. They do have hearts to feel the pain, eyes to see and families to care, just like one of us. Animal should be the right to be here, long before we arrive. If only we understand we care for them , we will help and save them or we can liberate them .
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Thank you Rinpoche for this short and powerful teachings . The Four Noble Truths are the most basic formulation of the Buddha’s teaching. They are the truth of suffering, the truth of the cause of suffering, the truth of the end of suffering, and the truth of the path that leads to the end of suffering. It was these four principles that the Buddha came to understand during his meditation under the bodhi tree.
To cease from evil, To do what is good. To cleanse one’s mind: This is the advice of all the Buddhas. Inspiring saying short yet powerful when we understand it . I will keep this in mind always.

Meat contains many substances, chemicals, which causes harm to us in the long term and red meat shorten human lives. Large consumption of meat especially processed meat are likely lead to cardiovascular diseases ,cancer and a lot more.

It is really great to see news write up of factual info like this as evidence and proof that eating meat causes more harm than good. Thank you very much for sharing the informative article.

Equality before the law is the principle that each individual being must be treated equally by the law and that all are subject to the same laws of justice. Everyone will be given justice by treating them equally nor matter what race and religion or belief, you are. All are equal without any discrimination to equal protection of the law as well. After reading this article I do not agree with Paul Ryan what he commented on the conservative radio show ‘Morning In America’. Racism should not be brought up then, claimed that black men do not want to work and are satisfied with being poor. Remarks involving negative prejudices about people on the basis of race, would spark off misunderstanding and disharmony . It is extremely dangerous to label the rich or poor by skin colour or ethnicity.
Thank you Rinpoche for the sharing.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
