General Characteristics of a Snake

The most astute and intelligent of all the animals, the Snake has the added blessing of having profound wisdom. Many very prominent spiritual leaders and teachers are Snakes.

The Snake will always rise as someone of influence or authority. They are powerful individuals and will find it easy and comfortable to lead. Their stunning charm, eloquence and striking beauty attracts many to them. Many of the world’s most influential, powerful people and most beautiful women are Snakes – Gong Li, Indira Gandhi and Oprah Winfrey, just to name a few!

There is always a shroud of mystery around the Snake. He is also the most cunning sign – you never quite know what a Snake is thinking of or what he has up his sleeves. This doesn’t mean he is deliberately deceptive; he’s just guarded, protective, shrewd and, most of all, in tight control – more so than he’d have you know.

Strengths

The Snake is gifted with a natural intelligence. More than that, he is the wisest of all the animals with an extraordinarily sharp and acute mind. He is also the most powerful and influential of all the signs.

What makes Snakes all the more successful is their measured pace and a very sophisticated, discerning way of working and living. They will never be the ones to jump around in excitement nor throw their weight around to get things down. They are frighteningly ambitious but are exceptionally good at keeping their cool and staying pointedly aware, under their quiet façades.

Snakes are also very intense and deeply passionate about anything they are committed to – this adds responsibility to their already very impressive list of qualities. The Snake can accomplish tremendous things – which may even seem impossible to others – once he puts his mind to them.

The Snake can also garner excellent support, great respect and a huge following. Snakes have that extra fortune of being devastatingly beautiful, stunningly fashionable, eloquent and very charming. You can’t help but be attracted by a Snake and want to be under their spell.

Weaknesses

The other side of that same intense coin reveals a personality that can tend to be very highly strung. Snakes maintain a very mysterious façade and to maintain that, they keep a lot of things bottled up inside. It also means they find it very difficult to let go; relaxing their grip on people who have wronged them does not come easily. Forgiveness is out of the question. The Snake has the potential for being vicious and will pull out all stops to extract revenge.

While the intensity of their focus keeps them driven and brings them to enormous heights of success, the flipside is that they can also be too careful and suspicious. The Snake does not trust easily and it is very hard to penetrate his cool, hard demeanour. He also has a lot of confidence which if not managed well, can translate into a coldness and arrogance towards people he feels he has no need for.

The Snake works hard but by the same token, he can also play so hard that he becomes decadent and hedonistic. He will never do things by half measures. It’s all or bust for the Snake, and on the way to the finish line, he won’t hesitate to ruthless, cunning and deviousness to have his way.

Career and Working Life

The Snake has an unusual cunning and an extremely perceptive, analytical mind. They can size up a situation precisely, exactly to their advantage. Never one to waste time on frivolities or things which won’t bear results, they select only partnerships or projects with huge returns. Though he looks introverted and prefers to stay in the background, never underestimate a Snake – he knows every detail intimately, has figures at the tips of his fingers and several battle strategies that are ready for implementation, now. More often that not, his way will be the right way.

You can be sure that anything a Snake works on will be done with exactness and a lot of style. The process is as important as the result and the Snake will take pains to always maintain grace, elegance and a fashionable cool that will make jaws drop and heads turn.

Love and Relationships

The Snake’s intense nature extends to his relationships too. This is one sign who is most likely to have several affairs. However, once he has committed to a lifelong partner, he will become very protective, even possessive and jealous. He likes the freedom and indulgence of being able to roam but will not tolerate the same of his partner. They can however, be wonderful lovers with a keen eye for romance and intense pleasures.

Because the Snake has an innate distrust for everyone and is often a closed book, the best kind of partner for a Snake is one who can give him that space he needs while always giving him the assurance of security and stability in the home and family life.

Finance

The very fortunate Snake has a lifelong blessing of never really needing to worry about money. They will always be financially secure and even if they do encounter financial difficulties, their cunning and strategic minds will help them find a way out.

As sophisticated and very stylish people however, they do enjoy the luxuries that wealth provide. They like to live well and can be extravagant in their spending, though not to a point that threatens their security; they are too careful for that.

Snakes can also have a tendency to be very miserly with their money; their possessive and self-protecting nature makes them instinctively wary of anyone who may come in the way of their wealth.

Social Life

The charismatic Snake is not likely to be the flamboyant life of the party but he will probably still attract the largest number of admirers and followers. He mains a mystic coolness, an aura of seductive mystery that naturally draws people to him – they all want to be under his spell.

Snakes will know how to charm their way into getting people to do things with them so that they feel they are the ones being done a favour. Such is the skill of the Snake! They will also be the best and most lavish hosts, holding stunning parties. However, as much fun and finery as it provides for guests, this too is a quietly masked opportunity for them to benefit. There isn’t a single move the Snake makes – no matter how casual and social it seems – that isn’t precisely calculated.

Life Lessons

The Snake could do with relaxing his grip a little and lightening up. He is already able to draw many admirers – now he should make the most of it by learning to trust and open up to them.

Snakes should also try to express themselves more and not keep things so bottled up inside – this can be damaging for his health as stress levels and internal illnesses are likely to arise from his intense over-drives. It can also alienate people around him who feel intimidated by his high expectations and silent broody ways.

COMPATIBILITY

Who the Snake will join forces with

The Snake, Ox and Rooster form one of the four trios of the Chinese zodiac, so Snakes will do very well to work with or find partners in Oxen and Roosters. The Rooster brings much needed fun and a playful element to the intense and introverted Snake. The Snake will also like the Ox’s stability and reliability; they are both serious in their own way.

The Snake generally befriends people who have as much ambition as he has. There is a powerful alliance to be found between the Snake and Dragon, both very strong signs. Both are driven towards success and will feed off each other’s passion, strength and tenacity. Snakes will also appreciate and work well with the deftness and crafty cunning of the Rat and the steady loyalty and calm of the Dog.

Who the Snake will bite

The Snake has little tolerance for people who are either too simple or too smart. He will find it very strenuous to work with the Monkey who is also highly intelligent but sneaky and often mischievious – this doesn’t bode well with the Snake’s in-built skepticism. He will also be at odds with signs like the Boar, which is too unrefined and relaxed for his liking, and the Rabbit, which is just as introverted and uncommunicative as he is.

Outspoken, frank, brash signs like the Tiger and Horse will also have trouble finding common ground with the Snake, whose suspicious nature will instantly dislike their directness, unstoppable energy and grand ideals.

How to work well with a Snake

To have a successful relationship with a Snake, you must never, ever try to outsmart him – it will never work and he will sniff out your ulterior motives faster than you can say “Hiss”. Win the Snake over by allaying his inherent mistrust of people – be forthright and honest, keeping your word and work with integrity.

Tread carefully around the Snake. It would be in your best interests not to offend him or deliberately upset him for he holds a grudge and will go to all lengths to make sure you pay back for whatever damage you cause. This is not a nice enemy to have and unless you are sure you have the same cunning prowess as him or a large store of anti-venom, you would do well to stay as clean, honest and sincere as you can around him.

So fun to read the signs of snakes. Many are quite true though:). I am a snake but I don’t think I am patient– one of my biggest problems! Rinpoche mentioned that the reason we are lacking of patience is because of lacking of compassion-so true! You don’t love the people enough to repeat your instruction or explanation- You think it’s wasting your time on the person!

I have difficulty to work with the people which I think they are ” slow” but now I realized that I am the slow one while I see how other Kachara people work to help Rinpoche.

Very lucky to meet Rinpoche and receive Rinpoche’s teaching in this life. 🙂 The blog is wonderful! One customer of Kechara Tea House told me she also watched video from this blog with VPN. Very happy there are fans of Rinpoche in Shanghai. Wish more people can access the blog without VPN. 😉

    Love, Christine

Thank you Pastor Jean Ai for this beautiful , heartfelt sharing. Rinpoche’s love for Oser is unconditional. The thought of Oser dog is the only thing on earth that loves Rinpoche more than Oser love herself. Animals have come to mean so much in our lives. In our eyes, dogs always win as the sweetest, cutest, and most lovable pets we have. Well from what I read from the post Oser hold a special place in Rinpoche’s heart and well taken care of, having all the love, care.

Thank you Pastor David for sharing the simplicity of Rinpoche’s room which I am sure many of us would like to know more. Rinpoche had choose to live an abundant life through self- simplicity. Rinpoche cares for others more than himself and always lightens the burdens of another. Rinpoche ‘s kindness and compassion will transform someone’s dark moment with a blaze of light. Rinpoche will not waste a minute in his life, bringing benefits to those around him and others. Whatever Rinpoche did was never for himself.
Recently when I was at the DA I saw those large collections of English Dharma books of Rinpoche. Amazing collections…..from books shelves, gifts shelves, to Rinpoche’s two Schnauzers shelves which is full of snacks and toys.
From what I read in this post tells all how facilitate Rinpoche’s room is.

Having the Panglung Ritroe- The Rising House of Power is a historical landmark for us at Kechara Forest Retreat, Bentong. A few years back Kechara were given the privilege of building an official place of residence to the oracle of Dorje Shugden. Great merits to have it here at Kechara , can imagined a residence for the oracle other than, H E. the 7th Panglung Kuten Thubten Phelgye Jigme Namgyal, who is known as Choje-la to many of us. The original Panglung Ritroe in Lhasa which was home to the Panglung Rinpoches and the lineage of the Panglung oracles was destroyed during the Chinese invasion. And our Guru decided to build one for the Oracle so as Dorje Shugden’s lineage preserved, that will bringing tremendous benefits to many in future.
From what I saw from pictures of the residence , it is beautiful, spacious indeed. Rejoice to JP, the kind sponsors and the teams who made this happen.
May the pure lineage of Tsongkhapa and Dorje Shugden continues to flourish.
Thank you Rinpoche for what Rinpoche have done , bringing the lineage of Dorje Shugden to Malaysia. We are indeed fortunate able to receive teachings from Rinpoche and practice it.

Thank you, Pastor Henry, for sharing this important message. There are a lot of suffering and killings happens behind walls that people are too ignorant to find out. Killings are very common and in fact, it is a necessary part of the whole industry to produce meat that most people loves. Little did they know where and how did the meat come from.

For us to have the meat, an animal will have to be butchered. There are plenty of suffering right from the moment where the animal is born. Usually, they will be separated from their mothers and start living in small and cramp places. Then, they will be fed an unnatural diet with plenty of growth hormones.

When they are in good size, the animals will be butchered mercilessly without sympathy. This is the life of a farm animal. So much of suffering and pain created just for the sake of us filling our hungry stomach.

The Peace book teaches us the truth that we need very badly. In our daily life, so many things draw us away from the truth, by entertainment, shopping, and so on.Harmony, love, care and forgiveness is what we need to practice day after day so that it becomes natural with time.
One thing good is that nothing is permanent, not even our deluded mind and we all have a choice we can make each and every day when we wake up. We can choose to be positive and negative and the path we take for that day creates positive or negative circumstances in the future.

Beautiful underwater restaurant in the Maldives called ‘Ithaa’, and it is built 5 meters (16 feet) below sea level making it completely submerged in the sea. The acrylic view allows the restaurant diners to have a 180-degree panoramic view of the sea.

This is the world’s first underwater restaurant. It is highly popular but is only able to host 14 people at one time, so diners are advised to make a booking 14 days in advance.

The concept is really unique. The structure was conceptualized in New Zealand, and built in Singapore. After construction, it was shipped over to Maldives where the restaurant currently is. It really is amazing how engineers and architects can create such magnificent structures. There really are no limitations to creating something from our imagination… Do have a look at the beautiful pictures of the underwater restaurant at http://bit.ly/2CD9L0P

Beautiful Buddha standing at ‘Husain Sagar’ lake, in India.

It is a lake in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, built by Hazrat Hussain Shah Wali in 1562, during the rule of Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah. It was 5.7 square kilometres built on a tributary of the River Musi to meet the water and irrigation needs of the city. There is a large monolithic statue of the Gautam Buddha in the middle of the lake which was erected in 1992.

In another source: Buddha Statue of Hyderabad. Hyderabad is the capital of the state of Andhra Pradesh. Between 1983 and 1989, N. T. Rama Rao served as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. During his tenure, he spent large sums to erect several statues of people from the region’s political and religious history. During his visit to New York, he saw the Statue of Liberty and was inspired by the efforts to restore it. He said “I wanted something like that… That would have been my contribution to society.” Rama Rao chose to depict Gautama Buddha because “he was a humanitarian who told the whole truth to the people. It is our pride.”

Oprah Winfrey and some of her staff recently took on a challenge… to go vegan for one week!

For seven days, Oprah and her members of staff decided to go without meat, fish, milk, eggs, cheese etc… basically any product or by-product that comes from an animal. The charge was led by New York Times best-selling author Kathy Freston, who has sworn by a vegan lifestyle for seven years now.

She said that “Everyone [at Harpo] was so excited and interested in it. I think knowing that it can be such a game-changer — that it can really affect you in your body and your spirit — I think so many people were just excited to give it a whirl.”

In order for meat to arrive at our dinner plates, IT HAS TO COME FROM SOMEWHERE. In this case, animals have to be slaughtered and killed. It’s worse when the animal is mistreated right up to the point of death…

We can’t always turn a blind eye to where our meat comes from… it comes from the blood and life of another being that is NOT WILLING to give it up just so that we can pleasure our tastebuds.

Narrated by and starring Sir Paul McCartney, PETA’s shocking new video takes its inspiration from the most well-known quote in the animal rights movement and offers a brief glimpse behind the walls of slaughterhouses, factory farms, live-animal transport and the fishing industry.

By teaming up with PETA to produce the powerful video – titled, “Glass Walls” – Sir Paul is helping to uncover the horrific abuse that the meat and dairy industries inflict on animals to provide consumers with cheap burgers, nuggets and other products. He also explains the massive cost to the environment for which the meat industry is directly responsible.

Billions of individual animals are violently killed for their flesh every year – whilst others spend almost their entire lives confined in filthy, cramped conditions, where they are forced to produce seemingly endless supplies of eggs or gallons of milk.

The concept of a meatless diet may be a hard sell for many athletes and their fans. The demands of strenuous activity necessary for games/matches or regular practices may require as many as 6,000 calories and 200 grams of protein daily depending upon the player and his or her sport. How can famous vegetarian athletes possibly meet that need without eating meat?

While plant-based diets have been proven to help reduce the risk of diabetes, cancer and heart disease, as well as speed along the repair of torn muscles and tendons and improve blood and oxygen flow, some still emphasize the difficulty vegetarian/vegan athletes face when attempting to reach their athletic goals. NFL Nutritionist Mitzi Dulan explains that reaching the massive caloric and protein intake levels necessary is easier for some players to reach by eating protein-dense, higher calorie animal foods. However, the body itself more easily processes grains, veggies, legumes and fruit into energy. The only problem, according to Dulan, is that it takes a LOT of the latter foods to fuel NFL player body demands—as well as strict vigilance about the nutrients they’re consuming. Quinoa, beans, hemp, nuts, seeds and vegetarian/vegan protein shakes can help these famous vegetarian athletes meet their needs.

Let’s meet some famous athletes who’ve gone meatless despite the naysayers and find out how it’s working for these vegetarian athletes at http://bit.ly/2CFdBqi

Most of us has taken it for granted that we have a connection with Dharma, let a lone met a qualified teacher. When we have met a qualified teacher, we must not let go of the teacher because we are not sure when we will meet a qualified teacher to have him guide us in our spiritual journey. In order to be connected to our teacher and the three Jewels not only in this life but all of our future life times, we must take the opportunity to make offerings and do the practice. Sometimes, our negative karma is so strong that we cannot see the truth, but have faith in our teacher and follow his instruction without having a doubt. When we have purified our negative karma and collected enough merits, we will have the realisation.

There are no second chances in life, except to feel remorse. Chances are given only once I do believe. If there is, it will be a miracle or considered you are truly lucky. Once you lose it , there is no turning back. One always have a choice and chance, grab it when opportunity come or else it will be too late. Having it , appreciate it once for all before our time is out. Learning , practicing Dharma is the best choice
I have chosen even though I started late. Its never too late after all ,I found Tsem Rinpoche’s blog and since then it have changed my life.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this wonderful inspirational quote. Everything is from within ourselves. We gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which we come across. Courage is knowing what not to fear. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Compassion is the desire that moves the individual self to widen the scope of its self-concern to embrace the whole of the universal self.
We practice compassion, kindness , caring and respect each other in whatever situation, turning negatives to positive.

Timely advice for us. We have little control over the circumstances around us. Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing it. Live our life with the understanding of how precious every single day would be. Our time is limited, don’t waste it living someone else’s life . Engage in those essential activities such as learning and practicing Dharma that will give us true purpose, clarity, and meaningful in life. All of us are worthy if we transform ourselves, turning negatives to positives, laziness to working hard towards our goal in life.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

I must thank my dharma blog team who are great assets to me, Kechara and growth of dharma in this wonderful region. I am honoured and thrilled to work with them. I really am. Maybe I don't say it enough to them, but I am saying it now. I APPRECIATE THESE GUYS VERY MUCH!

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

    2 yearss ago
What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
