General Characteristics of a Pig

The Pig is the darling of the zodiac. He is much loved for his honest, kind and forgiving nature. Not one for confrontation, the Pig believes in harmony and maintaining the peace. He is the ideal idealist and dislikes anything which causes conflict or division, such as schism. A lover, not a fighter, the Pig will do anything to keep the peace. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone more helpful or giving than a Pig.

A connoisseur of fine things, the Pig also enjoys the finer things in life. He’s in his element when he’s out having a good meal, drinking great wine, surrounded by a large group of friends. His self-indulgence could very well be his biggest weakness. Fortunately for the Pig, he finds it easy to attract wealth so he can upkeep himself and his family to the standard that they have become accustomed to.

Generous, sincere and warm, the Pig is well-liked wherever he goes. His friendship is also treasured because people know that the Pig will always be completely honest in his opinions and feedback.

Strengths

Those born in the year of the Pig are among the most amenable signs. One of the best qualities about the Pig is his loyalty. He remains committed for life to his friends and his principles, and would never do anything dishonest.

Pigs can be practical, logical and down to earth. This may make people think that they are cool and reserved, and even a touch arrogant, because they don’t usually show emotion openly. However, despite whatever callousness they may display in their actions, their hardiness is also a great strength – they are very rarely offended and will single-mindedly, steadily push their way forward to achieve what they need to.

Unlike the traditional views of Pigs that they are lazy, those born under the sign of the Pig are very hardworking. The resilient, strong Pig works hard and often plays harder.

Weaknesses

The Pig’s generosity of heart and wallet is often taken advantage of. It is so easy to exploit him because he simply doesn’t have a suspicious bone in his body. This gullible and naïve nature makes him all the more endearing though and his friends will loyally try to protect him the best they can.

However, the Pig can be stubborn and loyal to the wrong people. His eternal optimism and belief in the good of people will likely bring his downfall. Even after his trust has been proven to be mistaken, he will often not admit that his judgment of character was wrong and risk getting conned again! One of the Pig’s main problems is his soft heart which can make him become a doormat. He is always obliging and finds it next to impossible to say “no”.

The Pig can be complacent and not open to change. These Pigs prefer to stick to a known routine, preferably one that isn’t too active, demand too much of him or require for him to give up the little luxuries of life.

Career and Working Life

Job opportunities and money will seem like they drop from the sky for the fortunate Pig. He is suited for a broad range of careers and may gravitate to those sectors which appeal to his love for luxury. The Pig may enjoy work in hospitality industries, or with specialist wines, gourmet restaurants, antiques, arts etc. However, although he likes these extravagances, he is a hard worker and will do what is required to do his job well.

In contrast to the self-indulgent opulence the Pig enjoys, the Pig is also very generous at heart and is attracted to social or charity work. He works best when the work is done for others or when he has the opportunity to help someone better their life. With his social and attractive qualities, he is excellent at fund-raising. The altruistic Pig strongly advocates humanitarian causes as he is most happy to be of service.

He works well with people thus is great as part of a team. Somehow, people will always help the Pig, so that he will be able to achieve whatever he wishes for.

Love and Relationships

Pigs are loving and faithful to their partners, and caring and considerate towards those they love. Whether it is romance or familial, the Pig treasures real friendship most of all.

The Pig, both male and female, will have no lack of suitors even though the male Pig is particularly relaxed about chasing conquests. If the ladies wish to step up the pace, they will need to pursue him and make the first move instead!

In love, as in other relationships, the Pigs are also naïve and can often succumb to the wrong person. His easy-going nature could very well mean that he is taken advantage of, even by the people closest to him. However, if the Pig meets the right one, he will adore his partner and pull out all stops to pamper her.

Finances

The Pig has no problems dealing with any matters related to finance or business. He is able to plan for his own future as well as bear all necessary financial responsibilities, especially for his family or his own business. Security and material success comes easily to the Pig for he is diligent and driven, and he avoids disharmony and stays clear of conflicts.

The Pig has to be careful of his indulgences though. If he is not good at managing his finances and chooses luxury buys over realistic budgets, the Pig may lose all his money quite quickly.

Social Life

Cheerful, caring and warm, the Pig makes friends easily and his friendships last for a long time. He is dependable and always sought for help because you can always count on him. Not only is he willing to give you the shirt off his back if you’re in trouble, he is always accommodating to friends who need his help.

He is also very forgiving and prefers not to be confrontational. He would rather give in to keep the peace than rock the boat, even if it means he doesn’t get what is due to him. He has a good sense of humour, enjoys entertaining and pleasing others, which again makes him a popular character amongst others.

Life Lessons

The Pig needs to learn to trust the right people who can help to look after his interests. He also needs to stand up for himself and say “No” to protect his own interests. It’s not that the Pig agrees because he doesn’t want to look bad. The Pig genuinely wants to help but more often than not, he is not able to. If he could restrain his enthusiasm to a more realistic and practical level, then he will end up not disappointing others.

The Pig also has to watch his propensity for comfort and luxury. If his desire for comfort overwhelms him, people will start to see him in a different light and friends may drift away. He needs to know when to put on the brakes when he is on a self-indulgent spree, otherwise he can finish his resources quickly. Despite his luck with money, if he’s not careful, the luck (and money) will run out.

COMPATIBILITY

Who will the Pig roll in the mud with?

The Pig is a good ally with the Rabbit and the Sheep. These three have a gentle, caring and sympathetic energy which complement each other. The Sheep and Pig are delightfully mellow together and support each other equally. The Sheep is the slightly more assertive of the two and will protect and guide the naïve Pig to safe pastures; while the cheerful Pig will uplift the worrisome, bleating Sheep.

The best out of both worlds are achieved with the Rabbit and Pig combination. The Rabbit has the smarts out of these two and is happy to orchestrate beneficial situations from the background while the Pig is happy to be upfront.

The Pig is also good mates with the Rat, appreciating the Rat’s instinctive awareness and self-sustaining survival skills. Other animals the Pig gets on with are the Tiger and the Dragon, both dynamic personalities who will bring the best out of the Pig. Roosters and Pigs get on quite well as neither gets offended by the other and are both have happy, lively dispositions.

Who will the Pig oink at?

The Snake is the biggest enemy of the Pig. It is said that the Pig is no match for the powerful Snake who will just chew him up and spit him out without a second thought. If they have to work together, it is best to use trustworthy friends to mediate between them.

The Pig also may clash with the Monkey because of differences in attitude. The Monkey’s principles, or rather the lack of them, may appall the straightforward Pig. Likewise, the Pig’s fondness for self-indulgence will turn off the astute, shrewd Monkey.

How to work with a Pig

You can use the Pig’s attachments to make him do what you want. Give him the right incentives that you know he wants and he will follow your lead. While he can work very hard, you must also know how to pace the Pig and allow him time to play. Appease his want for pleasurable things. If you need to work with him, meetings would probably be best held over a sumptuous dinner; or get on his good side with a pretty little gift.

Look after the Pig and make sure he is protected from people who will take advantage of him. If you ensure his wellbeing, you can be sure that the Pig will reward you amply with an honest, loyal and straightforward friendship that is hard to come by.

Eat/sleep/play with my pig, she is my greatest! I love her so much and I will consistently light a candle (wisdom, happiness, healthy) for her as long as I can.

One of my sons’ horoscope is pig. What is mentioned above could be some way or another accurate of his character. However, I strongly believe that whatever qualities that are not positive can be corrected by learning and practising the holy Dharma.

The Pig’s characteristics are interesting and like other animal signs it has its strengths and weaknesses. It is good knowledge to read and understand the general characteristics of all the animal signs and it will be a good topic for starting a conversation with new acquaintances.

Wow! This is so accurate! I’ve never come across any horoscope as accurate as this!!! I’m a piggie too. I can relate to what’s written. It’s wonderful to read this as it is a genereal guide to help me communicate with others more effectively.

Communication is very important, I feel. It is our responsibility, out of compassion, to communicate effectively. Many problems arise from poor communication and in some cases, no communication.

Your Holiness, just finished the first reading of Gurus for Hire, Enlightenment for Sale, just a brilliant title like the clarity and
the outstanding exposition of your classes and text. Now its my everyday sadhana – the TsonKhapa Guru Yoga, and will remain over my
bed and living room. I have LOTS of things to say, and maybe they are ALL useless, if not senseless. I think I have already told you I ‘met tibetan Dharma’ through Lama Gangchen in Rio de Janeiro.
Not wanting or knowing how to ‘proceed alone’ – as ever, or before,-
I tried to follow the Gangcheanettes from ‘Pax Drala’ Dharma Center, Rio, the nearest then. Oh waw! Gangchen styled an english lesbian girl as Lama Carolinne (Caroline Gammon), and what this Lama taught or the girls from Pax Drala understood…she taught, ALL under Shakyamunis incomparable Dharma name…., was REALLY hard to chew.
I tryied for almost 5 years to follow, but then understood they just wanted girl friends, the younger the better, and all else
was just supposed to diverse ‘the uninitiated’. Comparing what I lived under those crazy loose bitches, and your instructions and problems for Dharma Centers in Asia, let me tell you, Asia is a neat decent place, that with ‘few adjustments’ can easily do the ‘job’ of
lightening our somber pit of a planet.
Cannot thank you enough! Long live Kechara House!
    Sicerely from Brazil.

Thank you, Rinpoche for telling us this story for us to learn from it. Rinpoche gives a lot of advice and instructions to many people and students to help them. However, no all of the recipient of Rinpoche’s kindness will be willing to go all the way with Rinpoche’s advice and instructions even though it is for our own good. Some will stick all the way but some will stop halfway due to their laziness and fears due to the lack of faith in Rinpoche.

Rinpoche will not give any advice that will harm us. Sometimes, the instructions might seem to be harming us or unreasonable, but we have to have faith in Rinpoche that eventually it will be beneficial for us in the long run.

It is very good to know about the origin and the story of the Buddhist deity. The story of Methar shows us how the Tibetan leadership has been operating since the older time, how powerful highly attained lamas are and how an evil spirit can be subdued to do good to help others.

Power and money are what the Tibetan leadership is interested in. They will make false accusations on someone to take over someone’s wealth and power, like in the case of Demo Rinpoche and Methar. Methar turned into an angry spirit after he was killed. However, due to the power of Serkong Rinpoche and his deep Dharma imprint, Methar was subdued and agreed to give his service to Kache Marpo.

Kyabje Zong Rinpoche: Birth, Death & Bardo

Birth, death and bardo: what are these three things? How do people die? We have to understand what we mean by birth, death and bardo in general. We must know how the bardo is entered. We die, go into bardo, take birth, again die going yet again into bardo. There is an unending cycle of the three; no end to it at all. It is useful to develop aversion to Samsara (or Cyclic Existence) and very good for practice to know this.

People often relate witchcraft to evil practice. However, in this modern time, no one is penalised for practising witchcraft. It is not a main stream religious practice and people can practise it freely.

Therefore, it is very ridiculous for the Tibetan leadership to penalise Dorje Shugden practitioners because of their faith. Dorje Shugden practice started about 300-400 years ago and it has never been a threat to national security, there is no reason it should be banned. May the ban be lifted soon and no more discrimination against Dorje Shugden practitioners.

    The Rain Stopper

A few years ago, I think in 2005, His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche and a few of us went to Kathmandu, Nepal to buy Buddha statues for our outlets in Malaysia, it was around July and it was a rainy season in Nepal, so it rained almost daily during the daytime and it made the shopping trip somewhat troublesome, because the statue shops in Nepal are mostly in Boudanath and it was not a covered shopping mall, you have to go from shop to shop in the rain. We were staying in Hyatt Regency Kathmandu then and it was raining quite heavily as we were waiting at the lobby for the taxis to bring us to Boudanath, Rinpoche commented that it was another tiresome rainy day, and he said to us “You guys wait here, I am going to talk to my friends”, then Rinpoche left the seat, walked towards the hotel entrance, and start staring at the gloomy sky while mumbling something. The few of us who looked at each other, and all turned to stared at Rinpoche, this lasted for about 5 minutes, then Rinpoche walked back to us and said “It’s ok now, I just talked to them and they are OK with it, we can leave soon.” True enough, in about 5 minutes, the downpour turned into drizzle, and we hopped into the taxis, by the time the taxis were speeding along the bustling streets of Kathmandu, the rain stopped completely.

It is extremely worrying to know that parts of America such as Texas and Florida are experiencing the impact of powerful hurricanes. The horrendous natural disasters have destroyed thousands of homes, businesses, offices and facilities in these areas. Sadly however, during such disasters, animals are often the first ones to be left behind, and saving the life of a human takes precedence over the life of an animal. The same thing happened during the recent Hurricane Harvey in Florida. But this time around, what was most disturbing was the fact that animals were left behind to die during the disaster.

The helpless animals, such as dogs in this case, have had to suffer immensely during the storms. As can be seen in the article, there is an uproar regarding dogs being tied up during the hurricanes which made it impossible for them to escape. In fact, the authorities may have encouraged people to leave their pets behind in some areas, but they should not have been tied up and left to suffer from the strong winds and rain. No one wants to be put in such a position, and neither do animals.

The mere mention of the Lizard Man conjures creepy images of mutant-like humanoid reptilians. Interestingly, despite possible disapproval from the grammar police, the term “Lizard Man” is used interchangeably to refer to a broad spectrum of bipedal hominid-like reptilian creatures (sometimes also referred to as “Homo-subterreptus) instead of just one specific cryptid. Thus, reported sightings of Lizard Man vary from scaly humans to large bipedal lizards, small dinosaurs and everything else in-between.

It is no surprise that many theories have been put forward in an attempt to crystallise the undefined nature and origin of the Lizard Man. Essentially, there are two leading theories – one based on evolution and the other on extra-terrestrials.

Buddha Shakyamuni gave three reasons as to why He had chosen Kushinagar (in today’s northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh) to pass away:

It was the proper venue for teaching the Maha-Sudassana Sutra (Story of the Great King of Glory).
Subhadda, whom Buddha Shakyamuni felt still needed to be given teachings, was there. Subhadda consequently became the last monk to be ordained by Buddha Shakyamuni; upon meditating on the teachings received directly from the Buddha, he swiftly became an arhat (perfected) and entered Parinirvana shortly before Buddha Shakyamuni.
Buddha Shakyamuni foresaw that His disciples would argue over the sharing of His relics. He wanted Doha, a wise and respected old Brahmin of Kushinagar, to mediate the disciples’ disagreements.

On June 21, 2015, Kechara had the privilege and great merits to witness an auspicious trance in Wisdom Hall at Kechara Forest Retreat. H.E. Tsem Rinpoche briefly describes here the history and background of trances, and what happened on the day itself.

For the first time in history, a Tibetan oracle had the invocation done for the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden to enter or take trance, and there were no Tibetan monks involved. It was all local, lay Malaysians who did the invocation. Our people practiced very hard and diligently with a lot of sincerity and commitment for many weeks, to do the chanting, to learn the rituals and to ensure the procedure was done right. And everything was a great success.

On the fateful day as preordained, we escorted Chojela to the prayer hall where there were 700 people (by invitation only) waiting to witness and to get blessings of the trance. We then assisted him in dressing in the correct regalia of the official oracle, including the hat and the boots. The instruments of trance such as the sword and spears were nearby along with the noose. The invocation was done and Dorje Shugden entered very smoothly into the oracle. He immediately got up as per tradition and did a very special Vajra dance in our prayer hall, which is the dance of clearing the obstacles.

The crow pheasant is a beautiful bird, I saw this bird just yesterday. It is good to know that it is a good omen. It somehow gives me an assurance that things will only get better. Sometimes when people are lost and not sure if they have made the right decision, seeing signs like this can really calm people’s mind.

The 14th Dalai Lama’s prayer to Dorje Shugden

This is the prayer to Dorje Shugden as composed by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at Dungkar Monastery of Domo Geshe Rinpoche. It is good to recite daily or when in need of help. You can see in the prayer His Holiness enthrones Dorje Shugden as the “supreme collected nature of all Gurus and Protective Deities and requests to grant siddhis” (attainments). Ordinary spirits cannot grant siddhis therefore in this prayer, Dalai Lama recognized Dorje Shugden as a superior being who can grant two types of siddhis. Ordinary and extra-ordinary siddhis. His Holiness surely could not be tricked by a spirit. His Holiness saw Dorje Shugden as a superior being embodying the gurus and Protective Deities who can grant two types of siddhis.

The Fourth Takpu, Pema Vajra Jampel Tenpai Ngodrub

Apart from his visions related to Dorje Shugden, Jampel Tenpai Ngodrub is said to have had numerous other mystical experiences. During a stay at Chubzang he had a vision of the sixty-two deity body mandala of Heruka Cakrasamvara, from whom he received the four initiations (dbang bzhi). He was also able to reveal the location of a sacred cave called Takten (rtag brtan) near Chubzang, which is related to Heruka. During a retreat at the Nyang caves (nyang phug) near Samye Monastery (bsam yas), he had a vision of Padmasambhava, his consorts, and his entourage of disciples. Although this may be interpreted as contradictory to the often perceived sectarian nature of this lineage, Padmasambhava appears to have been held in high regard. Trijang Lobzang Tendzin Gyatso, for example, also bestowed Padmasambhava empowerments and related teachings.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

    2 yearss ago
What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
