Khukri and ‘Nepal’ Street
KB recommended a wonderful Nepalese restaurant in downtown KL. Yesterday I had to get somethings in that area and went with a group to THE KHUKRI to try. The whole atmosphere was like I was transported to Kathmandu. The place is simple and nice. They make the food fresh from scratch so it takes some time. I like the vegetarian Nepalese Thukpa soup with noodles THE BEST…… delicious. I am ‘addicted’ to it… hehehe… everyone I went with LOVED IT ALSO….. GO TRY… the whole street where The Khukri restaurant is has Nepalese, Burmes and Cambodian shops. It’s very nice and feels like I am in my beloved Nepal again.
The Nepalese people there and in shops are friendly and very nice. I got some authentic Nepalese movies on DVD for our Nepal team here in Kechara… Mitra, Nani, Kumar, Kb are very nice guys and I respect them. I got our Nepalese guard some Nepalese magazines and newspapers also.
I will go back to get Nepalese movie, mags, books, food items, spices, etc for our Nepalese team. Our Nepalese team live together in one dharma house called ‘Vajra Yogini House’. Nani and Kumar are in KSA dept. KB in Tsem Ladrang Dept and Mitra in Kechara Paradise Dept. These are really hardworking and talented young professionals from Nepal. They have skills that we cannot find around here like Thangka art painting or specialized thangka brocade sewing… They are hardworking and very spiritual. They are beautiful Hindus and love Vajra Yogini and pujas at Kechara too… Everyone gets along with them real well… why not?? They are good people… Great team!! I am proud to have them a part of Kechara.
Joy and Justin just passed me some food, you guessed it, thukpa from The Khukri and guess what…. wish I had enough for all you to have… thanks.

Even though it an old post yet to me its good to have some knowledge of this yummy Thukpa or Tibetan Noodle Soup. Thukpa is a Tibetan word used for any variety of soup cooked with noodles. From the blog picture Thukpa looks super tempting. I would surely to try this noodle soup. Thukpa is one among the popular noodle soups in India. Having a Nepalese restaurant in Kuala Lumnpur, Malaysia, that have thukpa will be wonderful as there are many Nepalese working in Malaysia.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.
The bowl of noodles does look nice and yummy! Funny though… When Kechara outlet’s group went for a shopping trip in Nepal, I didn’t really get the chance to try their food. This restaurant would be a good place to try Nepalese food. I have yet to go to Nepalese street in Kuala Lumpur. Should go see and feel like being in Kathmandu again….
The thukpa looks tasty. I would love to go to Khukri some day to sample the thukpa. I think it will be quite cool for Kechara Oasis to have something similar. I can’t wait to see that. Now, we do not have to go so far to have a nice thukpa!Yay ! I think it will be quite awesome if Kechara Oasis can have more Indian cuisine.
Thukpa is how they called it in the Monastery. Whatever Rinpoche wants he can get. I remember Rinpoche loves thukpa in the Monastery. And now thukpa in Kuala Lumnpur, Malaysia. He don’t need to go to Nepal or India for it. Its smack right in the midst of the city in Khukuri Restaurant in little Nepal. Since there are so many Nepalese now in Malaysia, it would be a good idea if Kechara can also open up a Nepalese Restaurant as an expansion of Kechara Oasis. There will be no problem in getting ingredients as little India and little Nepal is very close to each other.
Rinpoche, is this a test of your readers’ door senses?! And by test of course I mean guess-how-delicious-that-smells to my imaginary tasting senses. That soup looks amazing. I can almost smell it.
Nepal is my home of the heart, I’m finding myself quite ordinary as many Buddhists in this regards. I always felt a “special connection” to Nepal, only to realize it was just a dharmic connection. I have lived all over the world… and the one place I know that I will always call home lies cradled in a valley. The Himalayas never leave you once they’re in your bones. Thank you Rinpoche! Now I know where to go when I miss Kathmandu 🙂
