You all have to see this very very very cute video. Then you will know what is a Gizmo and if you think Gizmo is cute or not…. It’s little Gizmo…he sure is having fun and relaxing here in my house.. I took this video today (November 30, 2012)…he stays here now.  Gizmo’s owners didn’t want him anymore and was going to put him down!!! So we took him in. He is a good boy and never poos/pees in the house but only outside. He is quiet and active and never complains about food and eats anything you give him. He is a good boy for sure and we love him and will never give him away. He is part of us now. A Kechara dog! One of the family. But who thinks he is super cute?? Let him know here…

    The Chair

I have one chair I usually sit on to do my sadhana, watch a program, read, write, research and so on. But many times I return from my bathroom, Oser girl has taken over my chair. She gives me this look like, it’s her chair! She’s a spunky little schnauzer. The room has so much space, other sofas and places of interest, but my Oser has to hijack my chair always. I have to gently move her over and squeeze in next to her like I did last night into the same chair. We sat together for hours and she fell asleep in my chair huddled against me. Love is sharing a chair even though it’s meant for one occupant at a time. 😊 Tsem Rinpoche

It is incredible how smart Oser girl is. She can steal the treat away from Dharma boy and so casually. Wow. She is so smart. A must watch short video!! Tsem Rinpoche

Mumu boy was Tsem Rinpoche’s little Schnauzer. Partly because of Mumu Kechara was started and you must find out why that is. Do read more and see very cute adorable pictures: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/?p=122472

Adorable video of Gizmo who danced to Madonna’s music. It is very kind and compassion of Rinpoche who took in Gizmo who was abandoned by his owners and had no where to go. May Gizmo be infused with Dharma by being part of the Kechara family, hence having strong Dharma seeds planted for his future lives.

  8. VInnie Tan on Sep 18, 2013 at 11:31 pm

Gizmo looks so comfortable in the arms of Seng Piow. Gizmo baby is cute in this video. He looks all sleepy, yet he is grooving to the music! He is well mannered, and very obedient. I am so happy that Gizmo have a great home to be in now, showered with all the love, getting Dharmic imprints as well.

  9. pavara on Jun 25, 2013 at 10:04 pm

    Gizmo is so cute!!
If Gizmo had not met a kecharian he would have been abandoned.
Some of Rinpoche’s dogs are actually adopted because their owner did not want them or just dumped them on the road.
Even if dogs are misbehaving we should not put them down, they are just like us they have feeling to!
    Gizmo is really cute!!!

  10. Jutika on Jan 23, 2013 at 11:26 pm

Hehehe Gizmo is such a cute, cuddly and a fun to play with dog though he may be old he still loves belly rubs and actions that bring comfort to him. I must say he really does enjoy nature because he just loves to look out at the sky, fishes and he also loves to enjoy the fresh air too! Gizmo always never fails to warm my heart and every time i see pictures of him or meat him in Have my day has been made.

His pictures have never failed to give me a cute attack and i think it would be the same for the rest of the people too!

Dato Ruby, Jean Mei and Jean Ai must have been really lucky to have a very cute and heart warming addiction to their family. It is really a pleasure for me to see, play, cuddle and rub his belly nearly everyday!

Love you to bits Gizmo!!! Love you so much!

  11. jennifer on Dec 30, 2012 at 12:58 pm

Gizmo you are sooooo cute , adorable, super cuddly and a very very good boy !
I had the pleasure of playing with him many times at Kechara Care and at Haven and he’s so well behaved . He’s happy and contented to be where he is and i’m so happy that he’s now well and fine. It makes me sick to hear how badly treated he was by his previous owner but he has the good merits and karma to be a Kechara woofer and is now so well loved.
Thank you Rinpoche for taking Gizmo into your loving care.

PS Seng Piow looks just as relaxed as Gizmo in the little dance sequence. So cute !

  12. Low ksjc on Dec 24, 2012 at 11:00 pm

Gizmo looks cute and relax.Who could allows such a well natured animal to be put to sleep when they got tired of the pet. When we plan to take a pet in ,we must consider the responsibility that goes with it.It is not a toy that we could throw away once we are tired of it.Gizmo was fortunate to find a owner or a true friend who loves him dearly.

  13. Judy on Dec 21, 2012 at 9:32 am

Looking at cute Gizmo, i wonder how it would cross someone’s mind to ever thought of putting him down! Gizmo is just one of the dogs lucky enough to escape because he was rescued by Jean Mei. I dread to think of what would happen to him otherwise. Please go to this link and support by giving your feedback: http://www.facebook.com/AnimalBefriendersCoalition?fref=ts

  14. Joy on Dec 19, 2012 at 7:08 pm

Gizmo is absolutely SUPER DUPER CUTE! He is so happy and contented and loves where He is today… you can through his expression… always smiling, running around with toys, and allowing you to do just about anything to him like the video Rinpoche took of Seng Piow playing with him.

This shows Gizmo baby is super comfortable and relaxed. Can’t imagine anyone would want to put him down. Lucky Ethan caught this news on time to save him… Can’t imagine not having him around any more… he certainly is part of the Ladrang family!

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this post..

  18. Wan Wai Meng on Dec 7, 2012 at 12:14 am

Gizmo is so nice, and it has been many times Rinpoche has rescued animals all over and has shown many solid examples of care and compassion towards animals!

  19. Sheryl KH (JB) on Dec 5, 2012 at 9:54 pm

Gizmo is certainly lucky to have met Jean Mei and so got rescued from his terrible fate. His life has certainly turned for the better, what at a nice twist.

For those of us who believe in karma, we will see this as good merits that he has accumulated, although this comes at later stage of his life. But this certainly is much better than ending his life much earlier and missing the chances to live within dharma and to be so close to a highly attained lama.

Gizmo is certainly a very lucky guy!

  20. June Tang (KHJB) on Dec 5, 2012 at 9:18 pm

Gizmo is cute and adorable,he looked so relax and comfortable on Seng Piow arms.He is really fortunate to be saved and now is part of Kechara family and has much of love and care from a lot of peoples. Rejoice that Gizmo has good karma to meet Rinpoche in this life and wish him can pratice dharma in next life !!

  21. AdelineTan on Dec 5, 2012 at 5:11 pm

Gizmo looks so cute and adorable in this video, he is so comfortable and relaxed and dozing off in the arms of Seng Piow.He is so fortunate to be rescued from euthanasia and now in the home fills with love and care for the rest of his life.

  22. Uncle Eddie on Dec 5, 2012 at 12:09 pm

In Buddhism, living beings including animals have always being regarded as sentient beings. Who knows, they could once have been our parents, brothers and sisters, or children in their past lives. Therefore, our loving kindness and compassion should be boundless to be extended to all living beings regardless, as in this case of Gizmo. Gizmo has the good karma to have met Rinpoche at this stage of his life to be rescued and released of any further sufferings. May it be blessed with a good rebirth too. Om Manim Padme Hum.

  23. Lim (KH JB) on Dec 4, 2012 at 12:57 pm

Gizmo is super duper cute, Gizmo must collected some merits that able to meet Rinpoche and Kecharians… May Gizmo can collect more mertis in this life time that make Gizmo able to practice Dharma next life…

Gizmo is super duper cute! He really enjoys the dance without moving a muscle! lol
He is really lucky to be saved and having a great life now. He is really super quiet and obedient. He enjoyed the dance so much, I think he felt like sleeping… Good massage and good music too…

  26. Albert Ratchaga on Dec 3, 2012 at 12:20 am

Gizmo’s face really funny, it’s like whatever you do to him, he will not bother, he is in such relaxing mode.

A dog will be relaxing only when he feel safe, then he will put his guts down, be with you and be relax. An animal may not speak, but they can feel it if we really love them.

  27. Davin on Dec 2, 2012 at 4:05 pm

Gizmo is so smart and cute. I love the video of him dancing..he was so relaxing on seng piow’s arm. It is wonderful to know that Gizmo now has a good home and he has so much love and care from many people.

    Such an adorable Gizmo!
Gizmo never disturbed others and very good matured natured dog, sooooo fortunate to have such a good temper dog. May many doggies like Gizmo be saved and human definitely has no right to put down any animal….

  30. Henry Ooi on Dec 2, 2012 at 12:04 am

Awwww….each time I see Gizmo, I brighten up. Gizmo has the thingy that I really find it hard to resist not to call out to him just to pat and stroke him. He is quiet as a mouse and his presence is hardly felt even though he is there. Great personality. Adorable. Cute, cute Gizmo.

  31. Elena on Dec 1, 2012 at 11:51 pm

LOL so funny that even as Seng Piow is moving his little cutesy hands around, he’s falling asleep! This is the first time I’ve seen Seng Piow so (willingly!) affectionate with any animal…I guess there’s a first time for everything!

  32. jamiekhoo on Dec 1, 2012 at 10:57 pm

Oh we DO LOVE YOU GIZMO! I’m so glad Jean Mei, Bryan and Ethan rescued you and brought you into our lives – you’re such a bubble of joy and cuteness. love love love xxx

  33. Li Kim on Dec 1, 2012 at 10:30 pm

Gizmo is super cute! And also very gentle. We have had meetings and he is around. Very quiet and not disruptive at all… He truly looks relaxed in this video…Seng Piow too looks like he is getting the hang of Madonna and Gizmo!

  34. Milly on Dec 1, 2012 at 10:17 pm

Gizmo is very cute and has an adorable face. He has merits to be a Kechara dog. He looks very relaxed and cooperative to be guided to dance. Its a “good” life for him in the animal realm. Gets to hear mantra and be around Rinpoche and holy items in his surroundings. Its sad many dogs are put down or abandoned when the owners gets bored and tired looking after them.

  35. ysun on Dec 1, 2012 at 8:43 pm

  36. lucy yap on Dec 1, 2012 at 4:41 pm

Cute, adorable and good natured, those are words to describe little Gizmo.Met him for the first time in KC office and played with him.He was so gentle and lovable! So glad you have a wonderful home now and lots of affection from everyone, including Rinpoche.
May all dogs be as fortunate as you.

  37. sarahyap on Dec 1, 2012 at 3:32 pm

    Oh dear, so adorable!

I’m glad that Gizmo is saved from a terrible fate. It is truly strange how some people can even consider putting down their pets, especially when they are as cute, healthy and good natured such as Gizmo.

Thankfully he now have a good home and can live the rest of his years well taken care and loved… in the company Dharma brothers and sisters, the mumus as playmates, and circumambulate stupas in the garden.

I hope that people will realize that dogs are not just toys but a living being that needs care and love… buying and later putting down the dog when they are bored or feel the dog is an inconvenient is just plain selfish.

Gizmo baby is so cute!!!!!!! He looks like he is enjoying the moment. He is having a great time at Haven.

  43. li kheng on Dec 1, 2012 at 2:05 pm

Gizmo is super cute. I remember when gizmo first came to Haven, he was more cautious and would not let everyone get too close. Now, he is most affectionate and lets people play and cuddle with him.gizmo has truly changed as he lives in a home filled with kindness, affection and constant care.
From this, i also see what dharma (in the form of kindness and care for this case) can do for a sentient being. This is why Rinpoche teaches us to be kind to all sentient beings. Kindness gives hope which can translate into visible transformation.

  44. Jace Chong on Dec 1, 2012 at 1:59 pm

    Haha…so cute!

Gizmo is so relax and his face is like “Whatever…”

Compare to his condition before he was rescued, I believe he feels much more relax and peace. Thanks Ethan for saving Gizmo from putting to sleep and bring him to the Kechara family.

Animals like us too, they have feeling and emotions. How good it is to release ones from fear and give them peace.

Thank you Rinpoche, we definitely have to do more to give peace to animals.

  45. Akaian on Dec 1, 2012 at 1:51 pm

Awww..cute little mumu. He looks so carefree and relax. Uncle Seng Piow enjoys himself a lot than Gizmo does. Hehe.. i’m very happy that Gizmo has amazing owners that love him and take care of him well.
    Thank You for sharing Rinpoche.
    Love, beatrix.

  47. abby f on Dec 1, 2012 at 12:22 pm

haha, yes Gizmo is cute! Although Gizmo is not as active as many puppies, but he is cute because he is gentle. Gizmo is very cool too. He has his own character. To me, when he ‘says’ he doesn’t want something, then he will be very firm and people should just leave him alone. Hahaha, sounds cool but it is very ok for me. I like Gizmo 🙂

  48. adelinewoon on Dec 1, 2012 at 12:15 pm

Gizmo lays so comfortably in SP’s arms! Gizmo is definitely cute and there is no reason why he should be put down. Every life is precious, including that of animals. We have no right to decide how long they should live. Once we take them in, we are taking full responsible of them. We take care of them, train them etc. They are not toys and they are not meant for our own amusement! Be kind to those who can not speak for themselves, especially those who loyally follow us and love us more than they love themselves!

  49. choi sheem on Dec 1, 2012 at 12:02 pm

Gizmo, you are sooo cute. And you are always so cool, calm and collected. In the video, you look like you are falling asleep. Hehe.. and Seng Piow sure can dance. I love the moves.

  50. Carmen Koo on Dec 1, 2012 at 11:43 am

Gizmo is so adorable!!! He melts my heart.. He’s such a peaceful and trouble free dog. I remember when Ethan and Jean Mei first adopted him, he was just as composed and calm. He is indeed extremely lucky to have met Kechara through Ethan and Jean Mei especially at such an old age. Kudos to them both for showing love and care to gizmo and saving him from being put down. Gizmo cute.. !!!

  51. Adrian Chow on Dec 1, 2012 at 11:38 am

Haha…Gizmo is like, okay whatever Seng Piow is doing is definitely better than my previous owner. Why would someone wants to give up on him? Worst still he’s going to be put down. Fortunate enough he was rescued in time. And now he is part of Kechara family and hope he will live happily with the rest of the gang. Such a lovely dog.

  52. Sean Wang on Dec 1, 2012 at 11:13 am

Gizmo is so cute. He got such great moves. He can even dance while he looks like he is sleepy. So cool. Uncle Seng piow is a really great choreographer 😛 Gizmo is so cute, he really likes cuddles but he does not like it when I pick him up. 😛

  53. Julien Roth on Dec 1, 2012 at 11:03 am

So cute! I love the video of him dancing. He looks so chilled and its like he’s having a great time. He is a lucky dog now. To be able to be in Kechara and to be loved by so many people. I hope that Gizmo is enjoying his stay and is always happy.

  54. datuk may on Dec 1, 2012 at 10:51 am

Gizmo is a very obedient and quiet dog. He can be at any place and be quite content, no complaining. One night he came to kwpc office while we were in a 4 hour meeting and Gizmo just was there. no trouble, no noise. Gizmo good boy.

  55. Girlie OOI on Dec 1, 2012 at 9:03 am

Good morning Gizmo. looks like SP is having more fun moving to the music. Gizmo has this “…aahhhh …. who cares???? look but he may be enjoying the dance nevertheless. lucky Gizmo was rescued and is now part of our Kechara family.

  56. tfreon on Dec 1, 2012 at 5:22 am

Amazing, Gizmo can just let its hands shaked and he show nothing… He seem tired. Gizmo better than me, no complain on food, eat whatever people give, do not show temper.
    Anyway, Welcome Gizmo to Kechara.

  57. Felix Kong on Dec 1, 2012 at 2:48 am

Gizmo is so smart and cute….so wondering why the owner want to leave him. Doesn’t matter, welcome Gizmo become new member of Kechara family,he will more happy and enjoy to stay here, cheer…

  58. Khong Jean Mei on Dec 1, 2012 at 2:10 am

Snau-snau cute!!! What a great video to watch to wrap up the day at Kechara Forest Retreat :). The video is so funny coz it doesn’t look like he cares or knows what’s going on, but Seng Piow sure looks like he’s enjoy himself hahaha it’s a very typical Gizmo expression. Especially when he has one eye closed and one open towards the end of the video lol

He has such good merits to be near Rinpoche, and I’m extremely happy to see him happy and so loved 🙂

On behalf of fatty snau-snau Gizmo, thank you for keeping Gizmo’s welfare in mind. Rinpoche was really thoughtful today when Rinpoche asked David to distract and play with Gizmo while I went off.

May taking care of Gizmo create the causes for Kechara to save more animals from involuntary euthanasia. No animal deserves to die.

For those reading this, do go to Facebook and support the Animal Befrienders Coalition (ABC)! 🙂 Everyone deserves to be loved.

  59. Martin on Dec 1, 2012 at 1:49 am

Gizmo really is quite an adorable little man! He totally submits himself and just goes with the flow. I guess Gizmo must be feeling completely safe and familiar with Rinpoche and Seng Piow. Dogs can sense their environment and the people around. Interesting that all dogs have quite different and very distinctive characters and Gizmo sure is a cool dude.

It is wonderful to know that Gizmo now has a good home and a big family that is giving him lots of love and care. And being in Rinpoche’s house means he is receiving so many good imprints everyday.

  60. Philip Yong on Dec 1, 2012 at 1:35 am

Im not a dog person but if i were to have a dog i wouldnt mind Gizmo. He is a really obedient dog. Always chilling. Im glad he is now with Kechara and Rinpoche. Heard he was abandoned and treated badly previous. Cute Gizmo. We should always treat our pets well!

  61. bengkooi on Dec 1, 2012 at 1:25 am

Gizmo is super cute. He is such a well behaved dog that he is allowed in many Kechara premises and offices, when other dogs arent. And he doesnt need pampers either.

He is also super lucky, to be rescued by Jean Mei after he was too old to be a breeding stud. I heard that he was going to be put down but fortunately, he was adopted before that could happen. And its really nice to see younger people like Jean Mei take on the responsibility of adopting a dog, and everything that comes along with it.

  62. Karen Chong on Dec 1, 2012 at 1:22 am

Gizmo is a very gentle and obedient dog. He likes foooood but no he never complains, he eats whatever he gets. I remember when I took him home for few days while his master was away, he never give me any troubles. I’m glad Gizmo has found a new home filled with love and care and i thank the kind hearted Ethan who rescued him.

  63. Joe Ang on Dec 1, 2012 at 1:21 am

Gizmo sure is a cute little doggie. He has a character and is very cool. When I get to see him, he is always friendly to everybody. He is always a good friend to those who choose to love and care for him. It is too bad that his previous owner do not see what we see in him. A super cool dog, easy going and not a hassle to have around at all. 🙂

  64. William on Dec 1, 2012 at 1:17 am

Gizmo is a cute doggie! He is a man trapped in a dog’s body, that’s what I think. In this video, he looks so dazed maybe cause he is so relaxed and at ease at where he is and in the company of Rinpoche. Or maybe Madonna makes him sleep.

  65. Joy on Dec 1, 2012 at 1:15 am

Gizmo is soooo relax and cute! He sure is happy in the Ladrang. He is very very lucky to have come in to our Dharma circle family here in Ladrang as he is loved very much. He is so lively and happy here, always running about, relaxing and it’s wonderful that we can can give Gizmo his last few years of his life some good happy times and of course daily being surrounded by Buddhas is a huge blessing! Cos any animals that come near Rinpoche will sure receive tremendous blessing, love and care always 🙂

  66. Andrew Boon on Dec 1, 2012 at 1:14 am

Soooooo Cute!!! Gizmoo is just so comfortable and trusting to the point of being comatosed!! Hehehe. How some people can hurt such innocent animals goes to show the depravity and degeneration of the mind. Vegetarianism is the way to go! Seeing such cutesy shows of effection surely reaffirms one’s conviction to be vegetarian… Super cute gizmo!!!

Gizmo is definitely cute. Gizmo is so chill, he lets you do anything to him and doesn’t seem to be bothered at all. Such a good natured dog. Definitely no reason for anyone to give him up. Even if the dog is difficult, it’s not a good reason to put them down!

The Sakya Lineage & Dorje Shugden

The account of how this came to be was told beautifully by Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche in his writings on Dorje Shugden. That is why in our tradition, we request Dorje Shugden to come forth from the great Sakya monastery when we engage in his pujas today. This can be seen in the invocation verses of Dorje Shugden puja that was composed by Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche.

    Dream Manjushri

After so many years, I remember the dream very clearly even till today. And I love this form of Manjushri. I requested a Ladrang staff to have this form of Manjushri carved from wood for me. And he did so!! He presented this carving to me as a gift!! Thank you so much! Then I had Joy paint up the wooden image of Manjushri in traditional style and it just finished tonight. Now this 24-inch Dream Manjushri is now in my room where I can see Him daily. How lucky I am. I love Manjushri so much. I have always loved Manjushri since I was very young and I am very attracted to Him.

Generally stupas are the physical representations of a Buddha’s mind. They come in 8 main shapes. Each shape is equal to the representation of Buddha’s mind.

    They can contain:

    Relics of Buddha
    Relics of High monks
    Relics of attained masters
    Sutras
    Mantras
Multiple images of Buddhas such as statues/tsatsas/pictures/paintings/precious items
    Wealth vases
Blessed items like from sand mandalas
Even consecrated bones/nail/hair of ordinary beings/animals can be placed inside… this would generate great merits for the deceased in their future rebirths. And stupas can come in all sizes from one inch to one story or anything
Stupas are built to purify karma, sanctify an area, calm an area with many natural disasters, bring good energy/luck to a region, enshrine the remains of holy beings, bless the environment and animals in the region and also they can be built as an act of spiritual devotion to commemorate a special event eg. Buddha’s birthday.

When the stupas are built, many will make prostrations, offerings of butterlamps and circumambulation around them. It is believed these acts will purify the negative karma associated strongly with the mind also body and speech. Negative karma blocks spiritual realization and higher states of existences.

You will see stupas in all Buddhist countries in their unique styles.

Here’s an aerial view of the Bodhanath Stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal…You must visit by hook or crook once in your life..and Nepalese culture is beautiful also…so much to see and learn in Bodha… You can call this the Bodhanath stupa or simply the Bodha stupa. As you fly into the Kathmandu International airport, you will see this amazing stupa through your window…

The Bodha stupa contains the relics of Lord Buddha. Thousands make worship each day and hundreds of thousands visit per year. I have gone many times. I thought to share this picture with everyone for a blessing.

The Baodingshan cave is located 20km northeast of Dazu. The site is about 500m long from west to east in the shape of a hairpin, with about one kilometer total length of sculptures. The carved areas which are between three and 15 meters tall are believed to have been carved under the direction of monk Zhao Zhifeng during the Southern Song Dynasty, between 1179 and 1249 AD. However, Some Daoist images date the carvings to the Qing Dynasty and later.

These reliefs and sculptures reflect a diverse school of Esoteric Buddhism that highlighted the faction of Liu Benzun (855 – 907), a pious layman of Sichuan province who became venerated for his asceticism and spiritual perfection. The three traditions Huayun, Pure Land and Zen are represented, blended with Confucianism. Shakyamuni’s birth and death, the Wheel of Reincarnation, Hell Punishments, and popular deities are also featured.

The reliefs are like illustrated sermons in stone, being interspersed with copious quotations from the sutras, which show that the intention of these reliefs is variously devotional, sermonic and in the pursuit of transcendence. As expressed by Zhao’s signature text:

“Even if one spins a burning hot iron wheel on top of my head,
No matter how excruciating the pain is,
I will not relapse from the mind of enlightenment.”

Many of the reliefs are lively, realistic and of high artistic quality. The reliefs were parables or teaching devices for the common people and elite persons of the time by depicting scenes of ordinary people and situations. For the monks who trained at the site, the reliefs illustrated Zhao’s spiritual doctrine in a concrete and memorable way, and remains so for visitors today.

The sequence of reliefs effectively amounts to a manual on ultimate liberation. Zhao promotes the Mahayana ideal that everyone can be saved through various means i.e. reflections on Shakyamuni’s life (the Parinirvana and Birth reliefs) and the doctrine of Karma (the Wheel of Reincarnation), encouraging good acts (reliefs of Parental and Filial Kindness), discouraging evil acts (Hell reliefs), promoting various kinds of worship (Huayun, Pure Land, and Esoteric reliefs) and contemplation (Oxherding Parable).

The Mogao Caves of Dunhuang, China has been a treasure house of art, spanning over 1,000 years. In each and every one of its 492 Buddhist cave chapels, you will find floor-to-ceiling paintings and clay sculptures as it was previously used for devotions and meditation. The art inside here covers more than ten major genres, such as architecture, stucco sculpture, wall paintings, silk paintings, calligraphy, woodblock printing, embroidery, literature, music and dance, and popular entertainment. But all these only existed because of one man’s vision.

The legend is that in 366 AD, a monk named Le Zun looked across the river at dawn and saw a thousand Buddhas appear on the golden cliff face of Mingsha mountain along the old Silk Road. The caves were then built by monks and mostly sponsored by patrons such as wealthy merchants, foreign dignitaries, as well as Chinese emperors.

But when trade in the Silk Road stopped, Dunhuang was soon forgotten and eventually, the Mogao caves were abandoned. The site however was still a place of pilgrimage and was used as a place of worship by the local people of the 20th century when there was renewed awareness in its presence once more.

On the 21 of January 2007, a 5 ft 3in shark was caught in Japanese waters. This may seem quite uninteresting, but the shark that was spotted is one of the very few unique species of shark that have survived without evolving at all.

Called the frilled shark (because of how it flares its gills), this shark has not changed for a HUNDRED MILLION years. Scientists do not know why it hasn’t evolved, and for a while it was even thought to be extinct. When it was discovered to be extant (i.e. still existing) many people called it the “living fossil”. This is because it is the only species in the shark family that completely avoided evolution!

We don’t see frilled sharks as regularly as those sharks from the Jaws movie, because the frilled shark can live as far as 5,150 ft below sea level.

Although they are rarely seen, they have been spotted in certain areas around the world… from northern Norway to France, Morocco, West Africa (where they have the 2nd kind of frilled shark, called the Southern African frilled shark, which only lives in the regions of South-Africa), New Zealand, Hawaii, Chile and other places…

Check out the video http://bit.ly/33MoS42 shows you the frilled shark that was spotted by a fisherman in Japan.

In June 2010, Wayne Giroux, a lawn mower shop owner, was in a car accident and was killed by a drunk driver. He had lived in Texas with his son, Paul and dog, Spot, and was 61 when he died…

Also in June 2010, I had written about a dog in Japan, named Hachiko who taught and still teaches people the meaning of friendship and loyalty. Every day, Hachiko would go to the same spot at the train station to wait for his owner… until one day, his owner died whilst at work and did not return.

Hachiko still continued going to the same spot every day for the next 9 years! This happened in 1925. 85 years later, the same example of friendship and loyalty can be seen in Spot. For the past few months, Spot still sits on the main road waiting for Wayne to drive back home. Whenever Paul sees him there, he gets saddened because he knows what Spot is doing. He says, “I have no doubt that’s what that dog is waiting for. It breaks my heart every time I go out there.”

We can teach our dogs to sit, stay, roll over and not to bite on the wires etc… but the dog is clearly better at teaching us about friendship and loyalty…

Do watch the video at http://bit.ly/34Yz3m9 about the American Hachiko, Spot. It’s very heartbreaking to watch her so lost…

The awareness of the importance of protecting life and the living environment has been increasing in recent times. However, people still continue to misuse their power, and have selfishly destroyed many species of animals and their habitats. We are definitely destroying ourselves on environmental and karmic levels.

Limiting one’s selfishness through the spirit of contentment would curb the need to satisfy excessive and unnecessary demands, and thus living in harmony with nature without harming the environment. Lessening our greed towards animal products would have a profound positive impact on our world.

Whenever we think about the octopus, we don’t feel very threatened. We are fascinated by how exotic they are… by their flexibility and their intelligence. If we see them swimming in the ocean, we would probably watch from a distance.

Whenever we think about a shark, our first reaction is usually fear. We fear for our lives…we fear for ourselves. We may be fascinated but we feel sheer fear. If we were to see them swimming in the ocean, we would watch from a distance BUT unlike looking at an octopus, we fear that the shark may find and attack us.

Can an soft spineless octopus really kill an aggressive shark?

Here is another one of those stories that opens your heart. This is about a cat and a deer’s close companionship. The amazing thing here is the cat accepts the deer and likewise, the deer accepts the cat.

Grooming is usually how one cat bonds with another cat that it loves. When cats groom each other, it is a sign of great affection. They use this time to bond with each other and show how much they care. Plus, it is relaxing. Being groomed by another cat feels good, like a calming massage.

I love to see things like this so much!!

How beautiful it is, that every day these two meet each other in the morning for their bonding session. It is a part of their daily routine.

There is a special relationship that can be forged between man and dog, seen so many times in cases such as “Spot” in America, and “Hachiko” in Japan.

In Afghanistan today, there are many Military Working Dogs on “duty” to protect and serve, such as by detecting the roadside bombs planted by opposing forces to maim and kill. Where technology fails, canines fill the gap by providing the skill and safety needed in the critical field of bomb detection.

Termed Military Working Dogs, one such dog is Eli, a black labrador, who stood guard over his partner, Private First Class (Pfc.) Colton Rusk, when he was shot in Afghanistan by a Taliban sniper. Even Marines who rushed to Rusk’s side were initially kept at bay by the snarling Labrador, who had been Rusk’s inseparable companion through training and then deployment to this dangerous place.

Most Military Working Dogs do not make it back from duty, and when the conflict is over they are euthanized. For Eli though, there is a happy ending. Out of gratitude for his loyalty to their son, Darell and Kathy Rusk, Pfc. Rusk’s parents, with the support of Marine brass arranged to adopt Eli and take him to their ranch in Orange Grove, Texas, near Corpus Chirsti.

This story reminds me of my Mumu, who protects my assistants while they sleep. Mumu is not a fierce dog, but while Monlam or Kb are sleeping, he watches over them. While they are sleeping, never shake or push Monlam or KB when Mumu is nearby. He will growl and bark if he thinks you are trying to hurt them. Mumu is a very sensitive and smart, I love my Mumu.

Fact: About 4 pigs are slaughtered every second in the USA.

Fact: In Malaysia, the pig population numbers up to 1.8 million.

    What do these numbers indicate?

It means many animals are SUFFERING. It means many animals are being slaughtered. And it means even more animals are about to be slaughtered.

Watch the two videos at http://bit.ly/352IiSe, recorded in a pig farm in the Philippines. Pigs are highly intelligent animals, even more so than dogs and certainly even more than any 3 year old child. It is extremely sad to watch these animals suffer such a horrible death…

According to Buddhist belief, we can take rebirth in the animal realms. Therefore, it is possible that we were an animal in our previous life. If we look at some people, their behaviours are very animal-like, this might be an indication that they were an animal in their previous life and they bring these behaviours with them into this life.

This is a proof that while we cannot bring the wealth we have accumulated with us when we die but we will bring our karmas, our habits with us when we die. Since this is the case, we shoould get rid of our bad habituation while we can and cultivate good qualities to create the cause to take rebirth in a better place.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

Find one of the most beautiful temples in the world in Nara, Japan. It is the 1,267 year old Todai-ji temple that houses a 15 meter Buddha Vairocana statue who is a cosmic and timeless Buddha. Emperor Shomu who sponsored this beautiful temple eventually abdicated and ordained as a Buddhist monk. Very interesting history and story. One of the places everyone should visit- https://bit.ly/2VgsHhK

Silver Manjusri figure from Ngemplak Semongan (Indonesia). Apparently during the Shailendra Dynasty, Mahayana Buddhism was very strong in Indonesia. This Dynasty promoted Mahayana Buddhism and Manjushri was a principal Buddha of worship.

  • What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
    2 yearss ago
What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
