500 bags for Malaysian students!
For government schools, their new academic year starts on 2 January 2013. To prepare, many students buy lots of new stationary, new school shoes, new school bags and new uniforms… it’s an exciting time for a child, especially for those who will be starting their first school year.
On 30 December 2012, Kechara Soup Kitchen collaborated with YB Dato’ Seri Liow Tiong Lai (Minister of Health) and the office of MP of Bentong, to give out 500 school bags to students starting Year 1! It was held last weekend at the school hall of Kg. Perting, Bentong in conjunction with a book fair.
The bags were sponsored by Kechara, and each school bag also came with a picture dictionary sponsored by YB Dato’ Sri himself. What a great and useful gift for 500 children who are now in their first week of school.
Both Kechara and YB’s office have been planning this collaboration for a few months… I am happy to hear that Kechara is doing more and more for the local society.

the children look excited and happy for receiving their new bag. Thanks KSK and YB Dato Liow for the arrangement.
Wow…. It is a wonderful gift from Kechara Soup Kitchen 🙂 KSK really done a great job with sincere fully heart and hard work… Rejoice for KSK and it sure will be grow grow more bigger 🙂
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this post.
Thank you Kechara Soup Kitchen and YB Dato’ Seri Liow Tiong Lai. The total costs of going to school for a child has gone up tremendously. School bag nowadays is not cheap as it used to be. It forms a chunk of the money parents need to fork our for their children’s education. As the amount of book required by the school for teachings has increased as I heard school bag wear out faster as well because of the heavier load.
Education forms the cornerstone of knowledge acquisition of all of us who can learn and appreciate learning. Therefore giving to these younger generation who are just beginning their ‘school career’ is a good example of the value and true goal of why we go to school, not just earning money, but be able to contribute back to our community. We grow up from the community thus giving back is the best we can do for everyone.
What the good ways to give the student free school bag start before beginning of the year.Kudos to Dato Ruby did well at KSA did such meaningful way for new student to study at the school.KSA start from give food to the homeless. Now has extend to different service to help the society.
Congratulations Dato Ruby and KSK team! You guys always do a great job in bringing smiles and happiness to many. This time we have 500 smiling faces, all ready to go school with their brand new bags and dictionaries! A big thanks to all sponsors which benefitted so many!
And it goes on every day with giving and benefitting.

Kechara had done tremendous work in benefiting others again! Kudos to Dato Ruby for working so hard to develop Kechara Soup Kitchen along with developing her presence as a spokesperson for Kechara.
Thanks to her hard work, notable Malaysian personalities like this minister would come to associate themselves with our cause. It is neat because this further the Kechara name and the public would develop an association between social work with Kechara. That has a lot of implications and definitely one of them would be to make it easier for Kechara to spread Dharma to people. It would be easier because people would know we are sincere because we also give back to society.
I have known Dato Ruby for many years now and she is doing fantastic work to promote KSK and Rinpoche to the masses. She’s doing tremendous work right now and her success that she’s enjoying right now is due to her due diligence in following Rinpoche’s advice and instructions over the years. Thus, she becomes a role model for many to follow in.
Dear Rinpoche,
Thank you for inspiring Dato’ Ruby to start Kechara Soup Kitchen. It is because of Rinpoche’s inspiration that the stomachs of thousands upon thousands are full, and KSK’s services have now expanded to working closer with the Malaysian government to help even more people!
I think that collaborating with anyone who has the intention to help is the best way forward. There are so many people who can use that extra support and that extra care. Look forward to seeing more collaborations!!
Keep up the good work, KSK 🙂
How fortunate we are to be able to collect some good merits by offering these wonderful kids some new bags. Rinpoche has always told us to always help the needy, to take care and protect them. KSK has been so inspiring over the years, growing and giving more and more… now not just in Klang Valley but all over Malaysia. How meritorious it is for us and Kudos to Dato’ Ruby and her KSK team for following Rinpoche’s wishes and vision to bring benefit to others!!! x
Congratulations to Dato’ Ruby Khong and KSK for sponsoring 500 bags to 500 first year school children.
First we give homeless people food and other necessities and even try and get them of the streets as well as find them work now we even help first year students and parents to save money on buying a school bag!
I must say what Kechara Soup Kitchen is doing is very kind and thoughtful act of random kindness.
Hopefully we may create the causes so that the next time we need anything essential for Kechara and Kechara Forest Retreat we may create the causes to get it too!
Keep doing what you are doing Kechara Soup Kitchen!
This is such a lovely event to rejoice at – Dato’ Ruby, President of our Kechara Soup Kitchen, an NGO, collaborating with YB Dato’ Seri Liow, our Member of Parliament and Health Minister, to provide necessities for school children. Children are the future of our society and when they have good education and a warm environment of care, they will grow up to be our future leaders. It is great that Kechara can play a part in this for our local community and i hope we will be able to continue to nurture the youth, which is much needed.
What a great news and and useful gift from Kechara Soup Kitchen to the 500 children. Congratulations to Dato Ruby and all the KSK team for contributing so much to society and benefit many people. Thank you and rejoice for KSK good actions.
Dato’ Ruby and the KSK team have done it again! While we are caught up in the rat race, it is good to give back to society. KSK has shown their care for these children going back to school. Every child will get excited at the sight of a new schoolbag to begin the term with, and this will one day be part of their collective memory. Well done, Dato Ruby and KSK!
Rejoice KSK and thanks Dato Ruby and KSK teams efforts that make 500 Malaysian students have a new bag to school. They look so happy with their new bag.
Thank you KSK for all the effort to benefit the community. It’s a great way to give back to the society. May the family of the students burden are lessen.
It is always good to be able to give, because when we give, we help to alleviate difficulties that people have. Even if these helps do not come in physical form, they help to make people feel better, and unknowingly, we may help to save people’s lives.
Through giving out school bags and dictionaries, KSK and YB Dato’ Seri Liow Tiong Lai have jointly help to take some expenses off some families, something that we may see as tiny sums but for some they may be quite a lot.
May KSK continue to touch the hearts of many and that these kids will put their hearts in their studies, appreciate these kind acts and all grow up to be kind people.
Earning from the society and giving back to the society, Kechara’s main motto here in Malaysia is to provide service to the locals.
It is very thoughtful of Dato Seri Liow and Dato Ruby to have this campaign, what’s the most important thing for a school kid is dictionary and a bag, this will help the kids a lot in their study, especially to the poor family.
Kechara Soup Kitchen initially just serve food in a very small scale when started, later on with Dato Ruby’s effort and consistency, it has grown to giving out 1800 packets of food including to the urban poor, and now, they expanded to give out more than just food. I’m sure this act will inspire many more people to join in for practice the beauty of kindness and giving.
Thank you Dato Ruby for such act, you are truly a Hero for everyone.
Congratulations to Dato Ruby and KSK. Thank You Rinpoche to set up this department to benefit more people.
Best Regards : Erickksiow
KSK has done it again! Since the day I joined Kechara, KSK has been rapidly producing results in terms of giving, giving and giving more to those in need. Not just giving in material items but giving of hope and pure care.
The pressure of society today has forced many to live on the streets. More often than not, these people did not have a choice. They too wanted to live a “normal” life but I guess not everyone has the privilege to do so.
KSK being a pioneer in this field really sets a benchmark of what a charity organisation should do. Giving goes beyond feeding the homeless. Giving in terms of care and love is utmost important to help these people off the streets. All their lives they have been put down by others, hence it is important we show care to give them hope, a reason to live and KSK has been doing very well in this aspect.
Wow! Wonderful! This is not the first time KSK is giving away free bags to children. I’m really glad to see KSK being supported by people from our government, it shows Dato Ruby’s effort in benefiting the community is being appreciated by our government.
Seeing how KSK reaching out more and more as the years pass truly is inspiring… and it all began with 20 packets of take out food. Determination, consistency and most importantly, the care that is put in into helping our community has proven to be the success of Dato Ruby and her team in KSK.
I like seeing Dato Seri supporting KSK in their many events. It shows that he truly cares and works very hard for the citizens of Malaysia.
The wonderful of spirit of giving. Kechara Soup Kitchen is well known for giving. KSK give away more that 1500 packs of per week for those less fortunate, and KSK is not only take care of physical hunger but knowledge hunger too.
Isn’t the smile on kids bring you a cold breeze in a hot day 🙂 I love it… Giving is one of the six perfections (paramita) practice in Buddhism together with morality, endurance, diligence, contemplation and wisdom. Giving is the most easy to practice among the six and everyone of us can give.
There are also a lot of type of giving such as: giving financial support to someone less fortunate, giving help, giving gifts, giving offering to the sangha, but the highest level of giving is giving Dharma to others.
Some of us might think I’m not some holy man or a monk/nun, how can i give Dharma to others?? Based on my understanding is not give only when you have but give even when you don’t have. I’m writing my comments here is another form of giving, I’m giving whoever reading my comments my understanding about this post, it might be good or bad, but if it’s bad, we can learn more with each other and all of us gain wisdom.
By spreading the Dharma in any form (give away Buddha images, give a dharma sharing etc) is higher form of giving like I mentioned before, Dharma solved our samsara problems and we will be more happy towards ourselves and people around us or even strangers, don’t you think it’s one of the way to make a better day ?
Hence I rejoice for KSK good actions again, and I pray by giving what others need, we will get all help and resources that we need for Kechara Forest retreat.

Congratulations to Dato Ruby and the wonderfully hard-working KSK team for contributing so much to society and extending such warm help to so many parts of Malaysia. We are proud to know you, and to see continuously the tremendous growth of KSK as you just take on more and more and more projects to help more and more and more people.
To imagine that we started off just by giving food to a handful of people on the streets of KL. And from developing that single activity, it has extended to so many other aspects of help – from medical help, to job placements, to fostering the next generation.
Dato’ Ruby was the very first person I met in Kechara, who held my hand in the early days and was my own “KSK” to get me off those crazy streets of samsara and into the greatest adventure of my life. So her kindness, generosity and patience started way before KSK was even conceptualised, and I was fortunate enough to have been a recipient of that care way back when. Thank you Dato’ and may many, many, many thousands more people in the world have the fortune to be within the radius of your love. The world is a better place just knowing you are in it.
Kudos to KSK! Another successful feat to benefit the local community.
Education is the best “inheritance” for our children. Hence, helping the poor with financial support for their education will reap long term positive results.
