KSK Officially Opens in Penang!

Aug 25, 2011 | Views: 1,980

At 9.50am, on 20/08/2011, Kechara Soup Kitchen (Penang) was officially opened! The Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Lim Guan Eng, graced us with his presence and officiated KSK’s new soup kitchen building.

Together with his wife, Betty Chew, and son, YAB Lim Guan Eng arrived at KSK Penang at 9.45am. There to greet him were KSK’s Patron Datuk Dr Victor Wee (Chairman of Malaysian Tourism Board), Dato’ Ruby Khong (President of KSK), Patsy Gooi (Branch Director of KSK Penang), Mr and Mrs Lim Thien Phong (Honorary Secretary of the Malaysian Buddhist Association and his wife), Mr Tan Leong Theng (Director of Ambank in the Northern Region), Mr Ng Wei Aik (Penang State Assemblyman for Komtar) and the entire KSK committee from KL.

The committee had all come the night before to help set up and prepare… what a great show of support for Patsy and her group of volunteers in Penang!

YAB Lim Guan Eng cut the ribbon to officiate the opening, and proceeded into the building to sign the plaque. At 10am, Dato Ruby Khong gave her opening speech. She thanked Patsy for her hard work and for KSK Penang’s success so far. She also thanked Mr Lim Hun Swee for sponsoring the rental of the building.

The building is over 100 years old, and without Mr CK Lim (the contractor, whom she also thanked), it would not be as functional as it is today. From the inside, it’s barely noticeable that the building is over a century old!

Dato’ Ruby Khong says that the opening of a KSK soup kitchen in Penang shows that people are serious about fighting the problems associated with homelessness in Malaysia. She hopes that more people will step forward onto the same path.

At 10.10am, YAB Lim Guan Eng gave his opening speech. He mentioned that this was the 2nd Kechara function that he has attended – both of them being for KSK! He thanked Mr Lim Hun Swee and Patsy Gooi again who shows by example to other Penangites that charity and compassion know no boundaries. He recognized that there are also other voluntary groups that do help Penang citizens as well… and he advised those present to remember to not only feed the hungry and give hope, but to show to all the less fortunate that there are still people who care.

He says that KSK is a creditable effort to take care of the poor, “The world can be very cruel. The world can be very dark, and when someone shows that they care it’s like shining a light. And that’s way for all of you here who are involved in this effort, I’d like to say congratulations for shining a light no matter how tiny as it is. At least there’s a light. I think that it’s this light that Penang punches forward. Lets shine the line, let it light up your life, and I’m sure you’ll be delightful.”

After his speech, the KSK team played the video that I had pre-recorded for all those who attended the opening. Then on behalf of Tsem Ladrang, Dato’ Ruby Khong offered a bouquet of flowers to Mrs Betty Chew and a token of appreciation to YAB Lim Guan Eng.

It is so nice to see this Kechara department expanding because it means that less people will go to sleep hungry every night. Patsy Gooi has worked very hard to make KSK Penang open. At times it seems like she’s running a one-man crusade in Penang hehe… may KSK Penang grow and help those who, like YAB Lim Guan Eng says, need a light in their lives. The light that comes from the care we feel for others.

I have added a few photos below of the event, as well as a video that was made by Citizen Journalist Malaysia. They had come to cover the event, and made a video about it. It’s because of the press that many people know about KSK. More awareness means more volunteers, more sponsorship and a greater ability to help more people. Thank you!

Another Soup Kitchen opening for the hungry poor in Penang. Heartiest congratulations! KSK has spread its wings far and wide to feed the hungry poor so that lesser people will go to sleep feeling hungry every night. Our kind PatsyGooi is a real loyalist to Penang and has worked very hard to provide the light which display the care that Kechara has for others who really need this light in their live! In his opening speech, the Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Lim Guan Eng, who mentioned that this official opening of Kechara’s soup kitchen was a 2nd function attended by him. He was so happy to be made aware that KSK has spread its philantropic wing to reach as far north as Penang to give care and love to the hungry poor of Penang. May this shinning light be a shinning example for other Penangnites and other voluntary groups to show the less fortunates that there are still kind and generous people who care, expressed YAB Lim. Syabas to Kechara Soup Kitchen!

Thank you Pastor David for this very well-written article. It describes Rinpoche’s room and life just as what I have the honoured to have observed with my own eyes. Everything Rinpoche did was for the long term benefit of others, and the equanimity he applied onto everyone including the animals impressed me tremendously. If you think Rinpoche treated his mumus like prince and princess, that’s the way he treated all of us. If you think Rinpoche was very strict to His students, this is how he trained his mumus too. If you think he is very “OCD” in planting Dharma imprints on us, he did exactly the same to his mumus and all the animals. Not only that, he would tirelessly use many different methods and approaches according to every single individual’s levels of comprehension to make sure they will get the maximum benefits out of his skilfull teachings, either now or in the future. This is the guru who made me value the importance of Dharma.

Thank you for the sharing , it has very informative information. It is necessary to take serious action to prevent environment and save earth, to reuse and recycle. We should correct our mistakes, selfishness towards our environment. Every single action taken is to maintain the originality of the environment, if for our betterment to make live healthy and safe from pollution.

Though government has formulated various schemes and established laws to prevent and to save the nature environment. Yet it should be still the duty of each individually to protect it for our future generations, as we are the people consuming its benefits.

It is hard to believe but true that only a little positive movements by everyone may bring a huge change in the declining environment. Glad to read about the inventors ideas to protect the nature and help to save our environment. A good article to be shared with family and friends.

“NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Humane law enforcement agents of the ASPCA arrested a Queens woman accused of animal neglect.

Acting on an anonymous complaint, ASPCA agents went to the residence of 47-year-old Ana Herra and found a female mixed breed dog named Julie, who was in “terrible condition.”

According to Joseph Pentangelo, the Assistant Director for Humane Law Enforcement at the ASPCA, when authorities came upon the dog, she was “very weak” and “in need of medical attention.”

Pentangelo told 1010 WINS Saturday that the dog had to be euthanized after having a physical exam at Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital.

“Her health was very compromised and she had not had veterinary attention in a long period of time,” he said.

Herra was charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty. She faces up to one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.

“Animals do depend on us for their care and nobody has to own a pet. But if you do own a pet, you should recognize the responsibility and there are laws that involve that responsibility,” Pentangelo said.”

This depicts a Tibetan system with dealing with corpses. After prayers have been done by the Monks, the cemetery workers will slice up the body of the dead, mix it with barley flour and with prayers scatter it to the vultures. It is the last act of giving for the person who has eaten flesh themselves their whole lives.

It reminds us that our bodies are borrowed and VERY TEMPORARY. It is not a good idea to attach so much to our bodies, but more to our minds. Our minds will leave the bodies and whether we bury, cremate or feed it to animals, we will have to leave it. We have left our bodies so many times in our previous lives and we have no memory of it and neither does anyone else. Some people might find it disrespectful to feed the bodies to the animals, but our bodies will be eaten by insects/maggots anyways when buried. What we do with the dead doesn’t so much affect the dead. It is more for the living. But then the living quickly becomes the dead anyways and then everything is forgotten.

So what is important, is to take care of the mind. Start now. Whenever you feel like quitting, remember your mortality and all the karmas you have accumulated. Nothing is harder than to control one’s negativities and fears, but death doesn’t stop anything, it is just carried over into future lives. So deal with yourselves now and overcome now. THERE’S NO ESCAPE FROM THE SELF.

The Yong He Gong Lama Temple, also known as the ‘Palace of Peace and Harmony Lama Temple’, is a temple and monastery of the Gelug (Yellow Hat) School of Tibetan Buddhism. It is located in the North-Eastern central part of Beijing.

Yong He Gong was built in the 33rd year during the reign of Emperor Kang Xi (1694). It was built as the residence for his 4th son, Prince Yong Zheng. In 1722, Prince Yong Zheng ascended to the throne and moved to the Forbidden City. However, he still had great affection towards the mansion as he had been living there for 30 years. In his third year of reign, Emperor Yong Zheng upgraded it and named the mansion to Yong He Gong.

In 1735, Emperor Yong Zheng passed away and his body was temporarily kept there. After his passing, Emperor Qian Long ascended to the throne. In his 9th year of reign he followed his mother’s instructions, took into consideration his father’s belief in Buddhism and he rebuilt the major halls into Buddhist ones, transforming it into a Tibetan Buddhist temple!

In the Falun Hall, also known as the Great Hall of Scriptures, sits a grand 6 metre statue of the founder of the Gelugpa school, Lama Tsongkhapa. Below is an article on the restoration of Lama Tsongkhapa in the heart of Beijing, China. Take a look at how they restore the gold painting on the beautiful Lama Tsongkhapa. Very nice restoration of something culturally very important to the Chinese nation.

Pemako is located in southeast Tibet. In Tibetan, the word “Pemako” means “Lotus Array” or “Lotus of Great Bliss”. It is a land that intrigues many Western explorers as it is thought to be the sacred land of nectar and bliss as described in Buddhist scriptures.

Pemako is thought to be one of the 16 earthly paradises, a promised land where humanity will survive in the event of worldwide famine or calamities. It was also referred to by Guru Rinpoche as the “supreme hidden land”. Guru Rinpoche had concealed 108 “beyuls” or “hidden valleys” in the Himalayas to be revealed at specific times during the degenerate age. Shambala is the greatest hidden valley, Pemako is another one of them. The Buddhist texts describe these hidden valleys as being reminiscent of paradise. They can only be reached with enormous hardship, and those who force their way through may encounter failure or even, death.

The landscape and geography of Pemako is shaped like that of Vajrayogini’s sacred body in a sleeping posture form.

Her head is Kangri Kangpo (White Snow Mountain)
Her two bosoms are Namche Barwa and Gyala Peri (both mountains)
The lower part of her body lies in Yang Sang (upper Siang region of Arunachal Pradesh)
Her sacred triangle is at the confluence of Siang and Yang Sang (rivers)
Her sacred vulva is at Kila Yangzom
Her navel is a small Nyingmapa monastery called Rinchenpung

This is such a heart-warming story, to go the extra mile for an animal that cannot even say thank you. As a good human being, we have to be kind and generous to not just our kind but to animals as well. We should be even kinder to animals because they are the weaker ones.

Human beings take away their habitats but all they can do is to try to find another place to live in. They have no one to complain to, there is no justice for them. The least we can do is not to harm them and help them whenever we can.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this worthy thoughts. The truth is, if we want to forget something , we need to let go, forgive ourselves, forgive the situation, and realize that the situation is over to move forward in life. Letting go can be one of the most difficult things we can do in our life. If we do not let go we cannot move on, we got to create space to for a new beginning and meaningful life.

Inspiring story of Pang Mipham Gönpo an eighty years old man realising death is near, and had wasted most of his life. He wanted to achieve the highest meditative realisations till his last breath of his life. Well , this is an example for us not to give up whatever matters how hard the situation is.
Age is just a number, Pang Mipham Gönpo met his famous teacher the learned pandit Vairochana and great translator for dharma practice. He practised diligently with the aid of a stick to hold up his chin and a meditation-strap to keep his legs crossed. His determination pays off, he gained realization and attained the rainbow body.
Regardless of how old we are and how difficult it is to practise the Dharma is the right choice. Courage and practice is the most important of all the virtues in spite of all obstacles. With determination, it helps get us through tough situations in life. An inspiring story….a reminder for us not to give up in difficult situation .
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing and the profound teachings.

Which guru shall I choose? | 我应该选择哪一位上师?

We should follow our guru not because of his fame, rank, prestige, power or number of students he has or how big his organization is, but because he helped us to transform our minds to be a better person and we can see this within ourselves. This transformation is sacred. Because he gave us dharma from his heart and loved us.

Medicine Buddha Healing Fountain at Kechara Forest Retreat!

In order for KFR to truly become a place of healing, His Eminence the 25th Tsem Rinpoche has conceived a number of ideas including the newly-opened Medicine Buddha Healing Fountain. Embedded within the fountain are semi-precious stones that were especially consecrated by Dorje Shugden while in trance of the Panglung Oracle; His Holiness Trijang Chocktrul Rinpoche, widely accepted to be a living emanation of Vajrayogini; our own Tsem Rinpoche and His Eminence Gangchen Rinpoche, an emanation of Medicine Buddha himself. When the water runs over these stones, it becomes charged with the healing properties of the stones and imbued with its blessings.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

    2 yearss ago
What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
