This is the scene of Kechara House bursting with people on Wesak Day’s night. It was estimated that 400 people turned up. The current Kechara House can no longer cater for the huge and growing crowd, Kechara House President Datuk May is building a new gompa (prayer hall) that can fit in 600-700 people and it will be ready in a few months’ time. Kechara is growing!
After the puja, many people lined up all the way down the street looping around the entire block, waiting to pay obeisance to holy Dzambala in Kechara House.

While waiting for the new Gompa consisting of 4 shoplots to be renovated along the same block a few doors away from KH2. Wesak Day had to be celebrated in three different places separately. Blink! Blink! Dzambala was put in KH1 while waiting to be carried to KH2 on a Palaquin with a candle procession round the block. The field opposite KH1 has been rented for games, sale of food items and other types of events. There were many volunteers who came to help out. The celebration for Wesak has imnproved over the years. And hopefully we will be able to celebrate our next Wesak Day in the new Gompa with sitting capacity of 700 people.
Manning the Kechara Care registration counter at KH1 was the usual task at any of Kechara House annual events. However none of us expected the huge crowds that keep on coming in and coming in none stop. I was just telling my dharma sisters and brothers that if people keep coming in at this rate, they would have to sit on the staircase, kitchen and toilet corridors. Clearly this is a sign that we need a new gompa and signifies the cause for KWPC to manifest.
Tsem Rinpoche predicted this would happen in 2010 and will continue to grow from strength to strength. Predictions came true. Scary! Magical is an understatement.
The premise of the Kechara House was acquired and renovated in the year 2004 to accommodate a maximum of 200 people. I remember when I was hunting everywhere for a suitable place for this Dharma centre I received alot of obstacles from our own members. Some opposed the idea of a centre and one even shouted at me calling me a big ego with big attachment for wanting a centre. Ironically, they are the ones who are being benefited the most and they are the ones whom our Lama is so compassionate about and cares about their well being. It has been 6 years since and the premises of Kechara House is bursting with people to its seam every time there is an event. How incredible fast is the growing rate, almost unbelieveable. Our Lama has predicted last year that this year’s growth will be 30% and I believe him as I see things are materializing in this direction.
Terima Kasih Rinpoche!
It’s true! It was bursting! Even I was sitting on the floor way behind and view totally blocked by those sitting on the chairs.
It was my first Vesak encounter at KH and how auspicious LOL.
And the palaquin bearing Lord Dzambala was another memorable piece as well..having assisted the KSA team for part of the wood shellac and beading decor. It’s so satisfying to be able to contribute to so many people’s rejoicing and participation!
Very auspicious event and a further sign that KWPC is a matter of time with the opening of the new Gompa soon. It’s an honor to be part of Kechara’s historical moments.
