Dec 3, 2014 | Views: 584

Dear friends,

Recently, I received yet another wonderful update from Valentina. I was informed that Yayasan Kechara Indonesia (YKI) received an award by the West Jakarta Mayor!

YKI was recognized as one of the social organizations in Indonesia who showed significant achievements throughout the year… so on Indonesia’s Independence Day, Valentina attended the award ceremony to receive the award on behalf of YKI. How wonderful!

I thought that I’ll share this joyous news with everyone. Below is a write up by Valentina on her thoughts after winning the award. She also share a little history about how YKI was established. Enjoy!

Tsem Rinpoche

Valentina shares her thoughts after winning the award from West Jakarta Mayor:

I am very happy and touched because I did not think about getting any award or recognition when I first distributed food packages. I only thought about executing my Guru’s instruction.

I do think getting recognized via an award like this will increase YKI credibility and help us to achieve our short-term and long-term goal.

Valentina, representing Yayasan Kechara Indonesia received the award from the West Jakarta Mayor. YKI was recognized as an achieving social organization in Indonesia

History of Yayasan Kechara Indonesia

Inspired by H.E. Tsem Rinpoche, and what Kechara Soup Kitchen in Malaysia have achieved; Valentina Suhendra started distributing packet food to the homeless in Jakarta on November 2010, starting with only 18 packets. As the years pass, Valentina receive more support and volunteers to carry out Kechara Soup Kitchen Indonesia, and as of March 2014, the group is distributing 400 food packets/ week.

Although KSK Indonesia started out on a personal capacity, due to the good motivation and works carried out by Valentina and her dedicated group of volunteers, they have officially registered Yayasan Kechara Indonesia as a non-profit organization and received governmental approval to operate officially since February 2014.

Vision

YKI is a non-profit organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty. Inspired by H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, YKI is dedicated to working with the world’s most vulnerable people. YKI serve all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender, YKI is committed to the poor. YKI serve the needy people and seek to promote the transformation of their well being.

Mission

YKI’s mission is to be a non-profit organization that engages people to eliminate poverty and its causes. YKI work with people of all cultures, faiths and genders to achieve transformation.

Activities carried out by YKI

1. Food Distribution

Every weekend, YKI distributes food packages to the urban poor in several locations in Jakarta. Sharing the same mission as Kechara Soup Kitchen in Malaysia, YKI hopes to have a permanent soup kitchen to provide food and necessities to the homeless, with a bigger hope to nurture them off the streets. YKI also have a food bank where dry food stocks are distributed to the needy.

2. Student Sponsorship

The student sponsorship program provides assistance to children from less fortunate families to enable them to pursue higher education which otherwise would be impossible for these children to continue due to financial difficulties in their family. Education is important for these young generation generation in order to ensure they are equipped with knowledge and certification for them to secure and sustain a good job which will enable them to provide for their families; and eventually lead them out of poverty. This is one of YKI’s mission, to provide a lasting solution to improve the standard of living within poverty stricken communities.

New students from under privilege families enrolled this term, they will receive sponsorship for their studies in school until graduating

3. Medical Sponsorship

YKI also provides basic medical care and sponsorship for the urban poor. Very often, we overlook the fact that in many families that are poor, to have food on the table itself is a great blessing. Sometimes, these families and mostly elderly folks have much difficulty of meeting their daily needs, and medication and medical help is considered a luxury they are unable to afford. Due to this, YKI provides these basic medical care for these under privileged people to ensure that they receive medical aids and improve their quality of life.

4. Others

YKI also involves in several other activities when the need arises. From providing basic needs like stationary items to children from poor families, to providing clothes for victims of a fire disaster.

Stationary sponsorship for children from poor families

Families receiving stationary from YKI to relief the financial burden on poor families with children in school

Young children receiving new sets of school uniform

Down on luck. Fire victim receiving packets of used clothes to help them through this difficult time

Young children from poor families receiving toys, something that is essential for the growth and creativity of young children

How does Yayasan Kechara Indonesia sustain their activities?

Fundraising have always been one of the most challenging tasks for NGOs, and YKI is no exception to that. Although YKI received donations from through the kindness of the community, often these donations do not cover the total running cost of YKI. However, the difficulty in raising funds never deterred the members of YKI, as an alternative way to cover the running cost of YKI, the members would engage in yearly fundraising attempts as well as a show of their commitment to doing charity through YKI by engaging in activities such as mountain climbing, marathon runs and even organized garage sales!

Climbing Mt Peclet, France

August 2012

YKI committee, Hau Shio Wei undertook a challenge to climb Mt. Peclet in France. The purpose of this challenge was to raise enough funds the YKI’s (known as Kechara Indonesia in 2012) administrative needs. It was due to this fundraising attempt that managed to fund raise enough money to pay off a loan taken by Valentina for Kechara Indonesia. Relieved of the burden of this loan, Valentina then proceeded to establish Yayasan Kechara Indonesia, which is what we have today.

Climbing Mt Semeru, Java Island

16 – 19 May 2013

5 hikers from YKI took this fundraising challenge to climb Mt Semeru in order to raise enough funding for YKI’s charitable activities such as food and other items for distribution, medical sponsorship, student sponsorship etc.

Jakarta Marathon

October 2013

In this fundraising event, 6 YKI members signed up for the Mandiri Jakarta Marathon. The theme of this marathon was called LUNAS (Lari Untuk Nasi Bungkus) – Run for a pack of rice.

Climbing Mt Rinjani, Indonesia

September 2014

Four of YKI’s members got involved in this fundraising attempt to raise funds for YKI’s various philanthropic programs and it’s administrative fund.

Congrats to Yayasan Kechara Indonesia for winning the award which is a representative of great achievement and contribution to the society. So happy to see so many people benefited by the services provided by YKI. All this happened because of the hard work, kindness, compassion and care by the team towards others.

Kudos to Valentina and her team in Indonesia!!

In this article, I can feel the faith and devotion that she has in her Guru, manifested out through her achievements in Indonesia. Her consistency and dedicated efforts is a great example for us. Besides that, she must have put in a lot of efforts in nurturing a group of people that can support her good cause too. Lately, they have been very active in the blogchat too, sharing Dharma with us.

May Yayasan Kechara Indonesia continues to thrive on and may whatever their mission and visions be fulfilled. Last but not least, I am glad that Rinpoche sees through the potential that Valentina has in her. Thanks to Rinpoche that many people have benefited from YKI, and many more to come. I am glad that YKI members are taking their time off from their busy schedule to help the needy and the poor. Well Done!

With their expertise a radiant energy scientist, a sound healer, an energy healer and a music composer, coming together to explore knowledge of cold energy . Li Kim and team going to haunted houses to experiment the energy. The haunted house they went looks scary. Joining them is also a Taoist master, finally concluded the presence of supernatural beings, as their findings found that the energy are dark and cold. As the unseen beings do no harm, they decided to do Taoist prayers and combined healing of sound, energy before leaving the area. I do believe those unseen beings do exist. Glad to learn that sound can heal the environment and souls. . Sound wonderful .
Thank you, Li Kim and team for this sharing.this knowledge.

In Dharma, we learned that everything is impermanent, good thing will never last forever, that’s why we should not be attached to it as when it was gone, we will suffer tremendously, and a good news is, bad things never lasts.
Life is a journey filled with opportunities, hardships, heartaches and its test for our courage. There is always a reason of our existence in this life.Thank you very much for this good article.

Life is too short to wake up with regrets. I believe that everything happens for a reason ,and there is a reason behind everything. That’s why Rinpoche asked to think carefully and consider certain things. Due to Rinpoche’s clairvoyance, Rinpoche knew the consequent. Rinpoche wanted us to learn to be responsible for our decisions that is beneficial to all and not jumping into anything blindly. And that is how I pray to what I want to come to be published.
Glad to know some knowledge of Mount Shasta which I have not heard before being one of the world’s preeminent sacred mountains.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor Jean Ai for this wonderful sharing with important explanations, some knowledge to learn and guidelines for us.

It won’t be supress Rinpoche felt more Indian as Rinpoche have been staying in India long enough. His early life spent in the monastery in India, serving his teachers and the monastic community, has taught Rinpoche cooking more Indian foods than western foods. Even all these years in Malaysia, Rinpoche preferred Indian cuisine which is rich in spices and masala such as dhal, paneer tikka, aloo mattar and paneer butter masala. Rinpoche will go all the way his students to serve Indian food to visiting Sangha so they would get a taste of home. Glad to know more of Rinpoche through this article. With Rinpoche explanation of how he felt and inherent in the Indian tradition culture, traditional spiritual practice and devotion to a spiritual teacher. All these points that Rinpoche was more Indian as what Rinpoche felt and having a strong connection with it.
Thank you Pastor David for this sharing.

It is ridiculous to think that a rabbinical court would sentence a dog just because they believe he was the reincarnation of a lawyer who offended the judge before. How would the judge know and can confirm that the dog is the reincarnation of the lawyer? Isn’t it abusing of power to make baseless allegation? This is us human trying to be more superior than animals and make decision based on own interest. Horrible act.

Thank you Rinpoche for this wonderful post explaining each and every steps the importance of starting our Dharma practice on Tsongkhapa and Vajrayogini being one. nformative article on Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen which more and more people should read and understand better . The truth is the truth and how Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen rose as a Dharma Protector as promise. The closeness of 5th Dalai Lama and Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen, has cause jealousy among the officials that led to the murdered of Tulku Drakpa Gyeltsen more than 400 years ago by the government of the 5th Dalai Lama. The 5th Dalai Lama realised the mistakes of his officers , then built a Dorje Shugden chapel and composed a prayer texts . The Chapel still exists at Lhasa known as Trode Khangsar.

Well good and very informative article reflexology. After reading it , I learn some knowledge from there. Reflexology may be beneficial in restoring balance and harmony in the body and releasing tension. Practitioners believe that it helps facilitate a deep state of relaxation, calm the emotions, and produce a peaceful mind. Researchers have been doing a research on it , found that there’s many benefits to support it. When an application of pressure to our feet, hands, or ears , it sends a calming message to the central nervous system, which in turn signals the body to adjust the tension level. That’s fantastic.
Interesting read of how the spread of reflexology was introduced to Europe can be traced to the 14th Century. And then to USA , by William H. Fitzgerald, an American doctor known as the father of reflexology. And how he developed the Zone Theory.
Thank you Pastor Antoinette Kass for sharing this post.

Dorje Shugden’s practice was first established within the Sakya school of Tibetan Buddhism. They regarded Dorje Shugen as an enlightened being, as such together with Setrab and Tsiu Marpo formed the triune of Sakya Protectors known as Gyalpo Sum. It was practiced first by the Sakyas and was later transmitted to the Gelug school where it was practiced by the majority of the Gelugpas. Many high Lamas has since been relying on Dorje Shugden as their dharma protector as they its a beneficial practice and has continued to thrive due to the courage and commitment of high lamas.
The 39th Sakya Trizin Dragshul Trinley Rinchen being as a reincarnation of his own grandfather, the 35th Sakya Trizin Tashi Rinchen. Interesting stories told as how he was born and the special link with the Sakya Trizins. Dragshul Trinley Rinchen was more of a hermit lama, and incredibly having visions of both Tara and Vajrayogini.
Recording to the Sakya throne holders the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden indeed definitively is Avalokiteshvara. Six of them are confirmed to have practiced Dorje Shugden. And even composed prayers, pujas , propagated and promoted Dorje Shugden within the sacred Sakya lineage. Chapels been built too as such they cannot be wrong in their practice and a very research evidence had also confirmed it too. Interesting read …biography of a Great Lama.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor David for this interesting sharing.

Thank you Pastor David for sharing this well research article on Sakya lineage connection with Dorje Shugden . The Sakya Lineage and Dorje Shugden has a long related history over hundred years ago. Wow……six out of the 42 supreme Sakya throne holders, six of the throne holders had indeed practiced Dorje Shugden. And even the 31st and 37th Sakya Trizin, two of the throne were recognised to be the incarnations of Dorje Shugden. They even built chapels and composed prayer texts to Dorje Shugden. It has proven that not only Gelug lineage did propitiate Dorje Shugden but also Sakya lineage. Sakya Lamas had practiced Dorje Shugden even long before the Gelug lamas. Dorje Shugden had been practiced by so many masters and lamas from various schools of Buddhism . Dorje Shugden was enthroned first as a Dharma protector in Tibet over 400 years ago by the highest Sakya throneholders and masters. Hence these practice is not a minor practice after all. It has again proven that Dorje Shugden is a beneficial practice and not the evil practice as claimed by CTA.
    Interesting read.

Very interesting and inspiring article. It is very true our human perception toward a point of view like what is right or wrong there is always a mistake or I should said in most time is wrong or is not bringing any benefits to us.
All our problems arise from the mind. So to solve them, we need to work on the mind. Hence, no martial arts can be greater than spirituality. Thank you very much for sharing this profound story with us.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
