Paul Yap is a long-time student of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, and Paul is also one of the newly elected Board of Directors of Kechara, managing various departments like Kechara House the temple, Wisdom Hall in Kechara Forest Retreat, Kechara Discovery, Kechara Saraswati Arts and Kechara Blooms. Recently Paul suffers from some spinal problems and is having difficulty walking, and Tsem Rinpoche out of great concern goes all out to help Paul:

– Rinpoche went around town with Paul to consult various doctors and surgeons in various hospitals for second and third opinions to ensure Paul gets the best treatments

– Rinpoche bought wheel-chair to aid Paul’s mobility

– Rinpoche went with Paul to the physiotherapist and sponsored his regular therapy sessions

– Rinpoche bought Paul orthopedic shoes that will aid Paul to walk in a proper posture in order to heal his back

– Once in a dinner, Paul was experiencing pain, so Rinpoche arranged for a bed to be delivered to the restaurant and had Paul lie down to alleviate his pain, and Rinpoche also covered Paul with his own monk’s zen (part of the robes) to keep him warm.

– Rinpoche sponsored healing pujas for Paul in Kechara Puja house as well as in the monastery, and had Paul’s team members come together to do puja for Paul’s recovery as well

– Rinpoche converted the living room in Rinpoche’s own residence into Paul’s bedroom and arranged for the bed, pantry, TV, laptop etc. so that Paul can recuperate in the most comfortable environment possible, and Rinpoche has meals prepared for Paul daily by the kitchen

– Rinpoche arranged for barber to come over to give Paul a haircut because it was not convenient for Paul to travel in car

– Rinpoche arranged for Paul to take shower lying down so as to minimize the pain, and personally blow-dried Paul’s hair after the shower

– Rinpoche arranged an Amitayus statue in Paul’s recuperating room so that Paul could be blessed daily and be healed soon, and Rinpoche also prescribed some prayers for Paul to do personally

– Rinpoche visits Paul in his room often to give him words of encouragement to motivate him to get well soon. Rinpoche also arranged for some motivational videos for Paul to watch to give him confidence towards recovery

– Rinpoche invited Paul’s family members to visit him in Rinpoche’s residence where Paul is statying, to let them have a peace of mind that Paul is very well taken care of, so that they would not worry so much

etc. etc.

This is how much Tsem Rinpoche would do for just one person, to take care of him when he is sick, and Rinpoche always and consistently does the same for many of his students and their family members who are sick, and furthermore, Rinpoche also cares for animals to the same extent. Rinpoche shows us what it really means by being compassionate, and how to really show love and care for another person/sentient being.

Tsem Rinpoche teaches us by His own example: A Bodhisattva’s Ways of Life. The Bodhisattvas that are mentioned in the sutras and depicted in the thangkas, could really exist in real life in front of us.

Thank you Rinpoche for showing us the true conduct of a Buddhist!

Thank you for posting this, Pastor Loh.

This really shows that we should be grateful for whatever we have and encounter and whoever we encounter during our life. Rinpoche really shows what a true friend would do for those he/she cares about. 🙂

However, that does not mean we should take advantage of people like Rinpoche. That… would be very indecent.

  3. Robert Anderson on Apr 7, 2015 at 8:52 am

Thank you Rinpoche for all you do!!! You are an inspiration to the entire world. I am so glad to have found him. He feel’s like family 🙂 I humbly bow to him.

Thank you Pastor Seng Piow for sharing the post. Rinpoche has done so much for his students and to benefit others. May all Rinpoche students put dharma into practice to repay the kindness of their Guru.

  5. Ashlee on Dec 11, 2013 at 12:40 pm

Tsem Rinpoche has always shown great love and care to his Gurus, students, friends and not to mention strangers. When he frequent the night markets, he would buy food to offer to the homeless and beggars. He always has his assistant carry around dog biscuits in their car and will be feeding strays whenever he sees them. As seen here, Rinpoche’s care is not just verbally asking “How are you and hope you recover soon”. He goes all the way out to make sure that Paul is being treated, have a comfortable & conducive place to heal, words of encouragement and etc. Most importantly, Rinpoche understands that Paul’s family would be worried and concern hence he arranged for them to visit Paul to let them know that he is being taken good care of. This is how kind Rinpoche is. He is a living Bodhisattva and it is truly a blessing for us to have such a great master guiding us in this degenerate age. Compassion is when you sympathize and act on it.

  6. Irene Lim on Nov 11, 2013 at 11:58 am

Rinpoche is a living Bodhisattvas. All his activities are compassion in action.

  7. Wan Wai Meng on Oct 8, 2013 at 2:55 am

Rinpoche always gets results in all that he does, and especially in taking care of people. Rinpoche care is not just limited to this life but future lifetimes too. People who are under rinpoche’s care like myself are truly a lucky lot.

  8. Uncle Eddie on Oct 7, 2013 at 5:04 pm

Like a Bodhisattva, Rinpoche is a highly attained being, live and care solely for the sake of others. Rinpoche’s life has been shaped by struggles and hurdles he has had to face, which would have made many of us bitterly angry, prejudiced, depressed, or even to the point of insanity! But to Rinpoche, it is “the most remarkable aspect of his life’s journey”, with every hardship he has transformed them into an experience of light, to be used as teachings materials for his students and others. As he has written in one of his books, “I can’t stop caring. I just can’t. If I know someone is in trouble, in pain, or needs help, I won’t be able to sleep. I’ll go crazy until I know they are okay. I just can’t leave.” That is the Bodhisattva of a Guru we have in Rinpoche.

  9. Su Ming on Oct 7, 2013 at 1:24 am

Through my 5 years with Rinpoche. I have seen Rinpoche consistently looking after his students non stop. Some are grateful and some are not but Rinpoche never stop and continue to look after them. Sometimes, not only are they ungrateful, they even bite the hands that feed them at whatever cost. Sad but true.

It can be from a very sick student who is striken by cancer/fever/etc to depression. The detailing of how Rinpoche cares for us is amazing that sometime even our own parents/partner/husband/wife/brothers/sisters/friends are not able to do at that level.

Plus, being in the mandala ie: the house of the lama if your faith is strong, u tend to heal faster. I can attest to this as I was once very sick & Rinpoche took care of me with his attendants.

  10. Lucas Roth on Oct 6, 2013 at 9:48 pm

this is another reason why we should love Rinpoche, he always helps us and this is just one of so many time Rinpoche has spent money, time and his personal help (very very very attained). thank you so much Rinpoche for always helping us and i hope uncle Paul gets better.

    Dear Rinpoches

Thank you Seng Piow for the sharing.Indeed our Rinpoche is very compassionate towards his students and all those who has the merits to meet up with him.
Paul Yap have been very dedicated to the growth of Kechara as long as we had known him.We certainly hope for his speedy recovery. In order for him to carry on his needed contribution towards the further developments in Kechara.
With the care and blessing by Rinpoche towards Paul’s condition. We are sure that he will recover to his top form in no time.
    Get well soon Paul.
We are very fortunate to have a guru who could show us the true essence of Dharma in real life…

  13. Beatrix Ooi on Oct 4, 2013 at 12:44 am

These pictures touched me a lot, it shows that Rinpoche does care! And instead of just expressing it through words, Rinpoche does actions. Rinpoche has always been very caring and compassionate to others no matter who and what are they, and of course we have some who really do appreciate, and some don’t. I remember once, my grandmother was admitted to a hospital in Penang, her condition was critical. When Rinpoche got the news, He immediately came down to Penang and visited my grandmother also did some prayers for her, it happened when I was 5-6 years old, I will never forget about that.

  14. Girlie OOI on Oct 3, 2013 at 7:11 pm

Rinpoche shows by example that we should always reach out to help someone who is in need; there is no pulling of ranks, so to speak. In Paul’s case, Rinpoche went to great lengths to see to his every need and comfort. Not that Rinpoche would not extend the same to anyone else.

  15. Edward Ooi on Oct 3, 2013 at 2:25 am

Rinpoche have always care a lot for His students. I still don’t know how did Paul’s back get this kind of problem and why did it happened? But I do know that now Paul’s back is so much better now is because he was under Rinpoche’s care

  16. Cliff on Oct 3, 2013 at 1:41 am

Not many people have the same level of compassion as Rinpoche does, not many people would go to this extent of making sure they are alright and recuperating properly even if it were their family members and the best thing about Rinpoche is, is that Rinpoche does this to all of his students as well. Rinpoche has never stopped caring about anyone and always wants to keep benefiting other people. Rinpoche is a clear and pure example of compassion and a living Buddha of our time. Thank you Rinpoche for tirelessly taking care of everyone and everyone in Kechara, you are a great example of the potential that lies within all of us. I hope Rinpoche and Paul are feeling well.

  17. Carmen Lin @ KMP on Oct 2, 2013 at 11:36 pm

Rinpoche has showed by example of how far it takes to care for others who is not well. From taking Paul to consult various doctors to accompanying him to do physiotherapist and sponsored his regular therapy sessions, even arranged a bed to be sent to the restaurant for him to alleviate his pain, and even used his own monk’s zen to keep him warm, this is beyond what an ordinary person will do, or wouldn’t do. Rinpoche has showed us the most genuine way to care for others just for the sake of others and not for the sake of oneself. This is genuine care for others out of compassion and love, BIG THANK YOU to Rinpoche for always teaching us by example and also for always caring for us. Many prayers to you and may I be able to benefit others too.

  18. Andrew James Boon on Oct 2, 2013 at 5:02 pm

It is evident that Rinpoche’s kindness truly knows no bounds. Rinpoche would bend backwards just to ensure we are all well taken care of and protected…

This care is pervasive throughout Kechara especially so among the closest students by Rinpoche’s side as they tend to emulate our Guru’s example. A few such persons are BOD Chuah Su Ming who heads Kechara Care (enough said), BOD JP Thong who nurtured me from the time I joined, BOD Dato’ Ruby Khong who inspires and always has the perfect words of advise and celebrity host and BOD Phng Li Kim who has been always there for me… this is but to name a few persons who I have the privilege and honour to call my Dharma brother and sisters! In this case imitation IS the greatest form of flattery!

Thank you Rinpoche for always being there for each and everyone of us, near or far, student or stranger, human or animal, living or dead… with folded hands and gratitude!

  20. Patsy on Oct 1, 2013 at 4:18 pm

No matter how busy or tired Rinpoche is, He never fails to assist anyone who is in need. Rinpoche’s students are very fortunate as Rinpoche not only gives dharma teachings but Rinpoche also takes care of the well being of his students and others. Students should appreciate and show gratitude towards Rinpoche for his compassionate actions that we all should follow and support his works so that Rinpoche can benefit even more beings.

  21. Albert Ratchaga on Oct 1, 2013 at 3:23 am

When someone who work with Tsem Rinpoche, he will take care of that person’s well being, so when that person falls, he will hold him up, when he down with illness, Rinpoche will take every effort to take care of him, even though Rinpoche was sick, not feeling well, or having serious body-ache, he’ll still go all out to take care of that student until he’s fully recovered.

These pictures shows what he can do and willing to do for his students, from buying shoe till wash them, He does not claim he’s a high lama and sit there waiting for other people to serve him, but in fact, he always say he’s just normal human being that is here to practice Dharma, and from his action, we can clearly sees that he does what he says, he really kept his Dharma practice seriously, never even once that i saw him slipped from his practice, I always call Tsem Rinpoche a walking Dharma, because every action in daily is just full of Dharma teachings.

Rinpoche is so kind to be able to this all this and put so much effort into it. Rinpoche really cares fro others, and this is the proof. I was surprised that Rinpoche had actually done this for Paul, so kind and so much compassion.

    Thanks Rinpoche for the sharing.

Rinpoche is really a caring Guru.

  25. Sean Wang on Sep 30, 2013 at 8:04 pm

Tsem Rinpoche always cares so much for his students and does not ask for anything in return. This is true compassion and the students should do the same for the guru. We must be able to help people are are not related to us through blood because by helping others unconditionally, we are practicing compassion.

Tsem Rinpoche is not an ordinary person. He is an extraordinary guru who only practices selflessness, compassion and many more good things in his life.

  26. Shelly tai on Sep 30, 2013 at 7:56 pm

First like a filiel son to a father and now like a loving father to a son.

  30. May Ong on Sep 30, 2013 at 8:44 am

Tsem Tulku Rinpoche had previously taken good care of his Guru, Kensur Jampa Yeshe in Gaden Monastery, India and he is repeating the same care, compassion and kindness to Paul SK Yap who is in this case, his long time student with the same consistency.

This is a clear lesson to be learned by many of us. Can we actually show the same care for strangers who are not biologically linked to us? A time for reflection on us of who we are and what we can do.

Tsem Rinpoche is definitely NOT an ordinary being, for he practices selflessness, generosity, ethics, effort, concentration and compassion – all qualities of a Boddhisattva.

What we can learn from this post is humility: even though she was already “up there”, Bionic Woman continue to challenge herself and grow and develop with each challenge she faces. What I like about her the most is that nothing seem to be impossible and she is always very graceful in everything she does
Thank you for sharing with us your good article and how even a series like Bionic Woman can inspire us to be better humans.

Kundos to the compassionate ATE members who helped a baby elephant fallen into a well. The members even risk theirs life to save the baby elephant nor matter how difficulties they faced. Amboseli Trust for Elephants or known as ATE is a long-term research project aims to ensure the long-term conservation and welfare of Africa’s elephants. It was started and managed by renowned elephant researcher, Cynthia Moss. Elephants are a threatened species in East Africa and now a little over 1500 African elephants left. The ATE is doing a good job or else the elephants will go extinct in the near future.

Rinpoche is truly compassionate to all sentient beings. Rinpoche always care and love all his students, friends and those Rinpoche saw needed help. Rinpoche had showed us a very good example. Rinpoche have indeed helped countless of people in so many ways. Even though at times Rinpoche could not in person help, Rinpoche will sent his student to help those needed people. Tamedran Raj a young boy was in critical condition at a hospital . Sending his student over to attend to his parents and relatives with gifts, advices and even doing pujas for this boy. How fortunate , they are.
This is one of many true story of Rinpoche has helped.

Personally, I prefer to use herbs and natural remedies to heal my body. After all, chemicals can be harmful to our body. Herbs have been used as medicine or supplements for well-beings since the ancient time, they are proven to be effective. The effect of natural remedies might be slow but they are safe to use. Tibetan incense is made from many natural ingredients, not only it helps to calm our mind when we are doing meditation, it also contains healing property.

    Ra Lotsāwa Dorje Drakpa

At the age of fourteen Ralo made his first trip to Kathmandu, arriving in Patan during a period of some political social instability, but great cultural fluorescence. Despite the considerable details of his sojourn there given in the (probably) thirteenth-century hagiography, recent scholarship has shown that little of the information given can be trusted, from the name of the monastery in which he resided to the circumstances of his ordination, where he was given the name Dorje Drak.

The Prophecy of the 16th Karmapa | 第十六世噶玛巴的预言

According to an account in Kyabje Dagom Rinpoche’s collected works (sungbum), the Karmapa came across a statue of Dorje Drolo during an inspection of the new monastery. Dorje Drolo is a wrathful emanation of Guru Rinpoche. This particular image was pressing down upon a smaller figure of a monk with a round hat, under his feet, that resembled the Dharma protector Dorje Shugden. The Karmapa stood in the presence of the statue for a while and then pointed at the statue and asked, “Who is the person that ask for this statue to be made? This isn’t Nyingma nor Sakya, certainly not Gelug and not Kagyu either. I didn’t ask for it to be made! This is not one of the deities you can rely on…”

Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor David for this important write up. Still plenty to catch up to read and study the Ordinary Preliminaries. Without these preliminaries we won’t be able to purify negative karma and accumulate merits. It is important that we that we study, learn, and practice Dharma which is the only thing that can be of assistance to us. Life is short, do not waste our time, choosing Dharma is the best choice.

Denmark is a wind country, powered exclusively by wind as Denmark is no stranger to green energy. Denmark is home to some of the world’s leading wind energy companies. Many countries around the world are using wind power on a commercial basis. Denmark and Danish companies rank among the best when it comes to development, production and installation of wind turbines. Several countries have achieved relatively high levels of wind power penetration. China is one country that is catching up par with Denmark in recent survey. Wind energy does not pollute the environment as much as fossil fuels, coal and nuclear power do. Their only concerns have been raised over the noise produced by the rotor blades, visual impacts, and deaths of birds and bats that fly into the rotors. Some new knowledge for us to know.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

So far, Tsem Rinpoche is the only lama I have come across who had been giving a lot of teachings of Vajrayogini. Rinpoche explained things is a very simple way so we can understand the profound Dharma. Without Rinpoche, I would never learn about Vajrayogini and I would never understand how precious this practice is. Tsem Rinpoche is very kind to always share many different practices with us so we can learn more and have more faith in Budhdism.

We should start putting a Vajrayogini image on our altar and make offering to her to establish a connection with her. She is the most power higher tantra in our era. If we practise it well, it is possible that we ascend to her paradise in this life time.

There are so many sacred mountains in the world. Each of the sacred mountains have their own legends or stories behind them. Mount Kailash is the holiest place in the world viewed by different faiths .
Some respect these mountain peaks so much that it is forbidden to climb them. For others, climbing the mountain is arduous and a form of purification. So they will climb it as a pilgrimage.Thank you for this nice write up.

There are other places in the world where people reported sightings of tall and hairy human-like creatures. In the Himalayan region, this type of creature is called Yeti. In China, it is called Yeren (wild man). In some Buddhist scriptures, there are also accounts on Yeti.

I think the bigfoot must be real, or there will not be sightings of creatures like this reported in different places in the world. Sometimes, some creatures don’t like to be disturbed or disturb others, therefore they are hard to be sighted. We have to be opened minded to other beings and be respectful to them so we can live in harmony.

    Voodoo and the Tibetan Leadership

The word Voodoo is a term used to cover many religious practices, stemming from West Africa. The original religion still has millions of adherents in countries such as Benin, Togo, Ghana and Nigeria, especially among the Fon, Ewe, Yoruba and Kongo peoples. During the 17th and 18th centuries as European colonialists enslaved West Africans and had them forcefully shipped off to the Americas, they took with them their indigenous faith.

Learn of Voodoo’s origins and the persecutions the practitioners suffered due to misconception. Learn how this relate to CTA’s actions: http://bit.ly/VoodooNCTA

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche makes offering of khata to Dorje Shugden.
Trijang Rinpoche never gave up his devotion to Dorje Shugden no matter how much Tibetan government in exile pressured him to give up. He stayed loyal inspiring so many of us.

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
