Joy Kam

Being Rinpoche’s personal attendant means that I am able to witness real Dharma in action, both on and off the throne. I consider myself extremely fortunate, and at the same time it is also a great challenge to instil Dharma in my life 24/7.

Over the years I have witnessed many cases of how Rinpoche helped many people in both worldly and supramundane ways, so I decided to have these stories told in comic form for the wider audience. It is my wish that through these stories many will be inspired to achieve the state of compassion and attainments like Tsem Rinpoche, so that many more sentient beings can be helped.

Pastor Loh Seng Piow

Thank you for sharing this story Joy. About how powerful is the guru and student relationship is and how much the guru can help towards that.

  9. Cliff on Sep 12, 2013 at 11:23 pm

This is truly remarkable, I am so glad you are safe and unharmed. It was amazing how the laptop bag flew from the backseat all the way to the front protecting your head from being smashed against the window. Who knows what could have happened if Rinpoche hadn’t given you the laptop as a gift I never really second guessed Rinpoche clairvoyance, Rinpoche has always helped everyone around him whether they are a stranger or a close friend, Rinpoche has such an immense compassion that Rinpoche doesn’t judge anyone whom needs help and protection. I am glad you are safe and thank you for sharing with all of us this story.

Thank you for the sharing Seng Piow.It is true that Rinpoche would take care and protect his students. For those who believe and follow the teachings ,they would be blessed and their prayers would be answered during urgent needs.

  13. David Lai on Aug 29, 2013 at 6:13 pm

Rinpoche looks after his students in so many ways and especially those that have clean samaya (spiritual bond) with Rinpoche. Hence, we are all encouraged to develop this bond with Rinpoche and how do we create this bond? We ensure that we put into practice whatever we have learned through the teachings into practice. We must be sure that we do that not to get any sort of recognition or praise but really to just to please the lama. This must be real and not done half-heartedly or when the lama is looking or not. Students whether near or far can have clean or good samaya with Rinpoche and therefore create the conditions to receive protection and the Dharma Protector will always assist.

Great story. I love it 🙂

It’s a good thing that Joy followed Rinpoche’s instructions to the T. Her unshakeable faith in the Dharma protector and Rinpoche saved her from many nasty events.

  16. beatrix ooi on Aug 24, 2013 at 10:16 pm

Thank You for sharing Seng Piow. The accident could have taken away Aunty Joy’s life, luckily she did what Rinpoche, which was to stay close to Rinpoche and that saved her life, glad that she is fine now. Rinpoche always knows what to give a person at his or her very fragile stage of life, so that the people would not suffer.

  17. Boon on Aug 23, 2013 at 10:46 pm

Thank you Seng Piow for sharing this miracle story with us. This story shows that it’s important for us to keep a clean samaya and strong faith on our guru and yidam. We should always listen to our guru advise and be hardworking in our dharma practise. It’s because a clean samaya and strong faith in our practise will directly reduce the impact of our ripen negative karma that we need to face in our life.

  18. Joy on Aug 23, 2013 at 7:50 pm

I am glad and feel very fortunate to have such a close relationship with Rinpoche, my Guru. For if not for Rinpoche and my Dharma Protector given to me by Rinpoche, I will not be around today. Physically and mentally. I thank Rinpoche from the bottom of my heart and I know I can never repay Rinpoche’s kindness except to only go all the way with Dharma.

My advice to others is to never make a mistake and think you can only do Dharma once you’re older or you’re business is better or when you’ve gotten this and that, never wait and think to much, just do it because… you may not even be alive tomorrow. Don’t waste time!

This accident also reinforces what I already know which is to trust your Guru 100%, even if you have no clue as to what is going on, just trust and follow instructions. This may sound mystical, but truth is Rinpoche is the only one who can help you at the time of death. I know this experience through my beloved husband and close student of Rinpoche, Justin Rinpley’s death. It was Rinpoche’s voice that guided him together with the protector to take him to a swift and good rebirth.

So if you have found a Guru and please stick to your Guru instead of centre hoping and Guru shopping. Trust and never doubt the Guru as it says in the 50 Stanzas http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/prayers-and-sadhanas/sadhana-prayers.html#0j
Your on a spiritual path not a holiday trip. Most of all know that a Guru is not someone you choose to stroke your ego, but someone you choose who is kind enough to show you your flaws that causes you to suffer. If you cannot listen and follow instructions and do not wish to continue, then leave nicely and do not need to make a huge fuss about it. You don’t value your Guru does not mean others don’t!

    • Grace Leong on Aug 31, 2013 at 11:22 am

Dear Joy. Yr comments are so real and sincere it made me tear. You have gone through so much in yr life and Rinpoche was there with you every step of the way, ensuring you will be ok. This is such a great example of a very dedicated Guru who will never let his student fail if that student have faith and a good samaya with him. We are all very lucky to have met such a great Guru . Thank you for all the sharing. El oven

  19. Patsy on Aug 23, 2013 at 4:57 pm

It is because of her faith and devotion towards Rinpoche, Joy has created the cause to be protected and survived from the accident. To receive a gift from Rinpoche is a gift of blessings. It is so important that we keep our samaya clean so that we can receive our Guru’s blessings.

It is totally amazing how sometimes no matter how sometimes how bad a situation may be by just praying to Setrap and visualizing the Guru and Setrap as one could juat as well save a person’s life.

It really shows the full power Setrap has to even say someone such as Joy at the nick of time and I am really surprised at the gift that Rinpoche gave to Joy just 2 day before the accident was actually the lifebuoy that had saved Joy’s life.

It is somehow amazing to know that every gift that Rinpoche gives to people has a reason whether it is small or big.

Thank you seng Piow for sharing this story!

It is such a relief that Joy was not seriously injured.
What would happen if Joy was not in Dharma?
It is H.E. Tsem Rinpoche that saved Joy.
I am glad that i am with Rinpoche and in Kechara,i would not be caring more about all sentient beings.
Without Rinpoche i would not have all the blessings and gifts that Rinpoche had given me.
Rinpoche has been the kindest person i have ever met in my life,i had never seen anyone as kind as Rinpoche.

This a truly another of Tsem Rinpoche’s miracles. Thank you, Seng Piow for sharing Joy’s story and I rejoice that Joy has been showing good guru devotion and faith in the protector, which resulted in her being saved.

Rinpoche’s gifts always benefit us, even when we do not know it 😀 Rinpoche always cares so, so much for his students.

Thank you for having this article here on the miraculous ways Tsem Rinpoche reach out to help his students. It is because of Joy’s faith and trust in Rinpoche’s advise to stay around that helped her to survive the car accident with only minor scratches. Rinpoche is always looking out and blessing everyone with his unconditional love and gift. The lesson here is to always listen to Rinpoche’s advice and follow all Rinpoche’s instructions.

  31. Albert Ratchaga on Aug 20, 2013 at 12:32 am

In a year, Rinpoche always give a lot of gifts to his students, the staff of Kechara, friends and even to people whom he has never met. Since day one, Rinpoche has never stopped giving out gifts.

The gift that Rinpoche give comes in a wide range, Dharma items to non Dharma items, you’ll be wondering how Rinpoche picked the gifts to the other party? Well, a true generousity is not someone who just give out gifts, but they give out gifts with plenty of thoughts over it that based on his daily observation. When someone received a gift from Rinpoche, they will ask a question: how come Rinpoche know I wanted this? Hehe, don’t be surprise, when in our daily life, through our action, speech and writings, Rinpoche will notice it all and registered for the gift in the future.

Beside this, Rinpoche also give gifts to his students, it’s purpose is to help them in their Dharma work, for example, Rinpche giving Handphones, so that his student can have a better phone to do social media, to take nice pictures and to send good updates about their work. This is just one of the example, there are many more gifts that Rinpoche give.

and another reason is as what it is posted in this comic, every gift that Rinpoche gifted, there comes with his blessing, there are many things that is going our way and we could not see it, then Rinpoche will give us that blessing to help us to overcome that situation. Joy is one real example of how Rinpoche saved her from being in serious injury, there are many more that I know / heard of.

Rinpoche’s detailness and care is really incomparable, and the most precious gift that Rinpoche gifted us among all these, that is Dharma and it’s practice, because of all these gift, we are able to understand where our suffering comes from. and through this gift, we are able to walk towards the better human path through the practice.

Thank you Rinpoche for your consistent teaching, I’m sure Joy got benefited not only from the laptop bag as present, but also the practice that Rinpoche given generously.

    • Sofi on Aug 22, 2013 at 3:30 am

I totally agree wt u, Albert. Though i m not near Rinpoche, his gifts to me amazed me cos they were exactly what i had been looking around for. What more, they r what I like. Never underestimate Rinpoche’s care for his students n it is really upto us as to how we wish to place him in our hearts, a normal Guru or the Buddha Guru that he really is. Thanks SP for a good illustration on Joy’s experience.

  32. Julien Roth on Aug 19, 2013 at 11:23 pm

I have actually heard this story before. I was so amazed i actually found it hard to believe when i heard it for the first time. Rinpoche truly is a life saver. I met an accident on June 2013, my car skid due to heavy rain at highway near Yong Peng. After 3 spin my car landed safely at the down hill beside the road. My car landed far away from the road, during spinning there is no car behind. The car stopped with the boot bam to the Pagar but not front to hit.2 airbags come out but it never hit me. All windows still in good condition. Thanks Guru and protector that help me landed without any injuries

The Miraculous White Tara of the Majapahit Empire

Supriyono lived in a village in Indonesia’s East Java Province. In early October 2011, he dreamt of a bluish-red dragon surrounding his village before it finally dived into an old well. Supriyono took the dream as a sign and located the old well in the Brahu Temple complex in the Trowulan sub-district of East Java Province.

Tales with My Lama: A Snapshot of Rinpoche’s Room

Tsem Rinpoche had always been a private person and his bedroom was basically his personal domain. However, as a lama or a spiritual guide, Rinpoche would allow a number of his students and friends to intrude upon his personal space for gatherings, meetings and sometimes just to talk or watch a movie on his computer. Many people are probably curious about what Rinpoche’s room looks like and would perhaps like a snapshot that reveals a little bit more of Rinpoche’s world.

    Postcard from Raymond: “Monk’s Posture”

To some, it may just look like a photograph of people sleeping on a fast-moving train in China, but it has deep significance. Sprawled around in the picture are men, women and children sleeping, but what is remarkable is the beautiful Chinese Mahayana monk, sitting crossed-legged in meditation posture with his head slightly bent.

Thank you Pastor David for this very well-written article. It describes Rinpoche’s room and life just as what I have the honoured to have observed with my own eyes. Everything Rinpoche did was for the long term benefit of others, and the equanimity he applied onto everyone including the animals impressed me tremendously. If you think Rinpoche treated his mumus like prince and princess, that’s the way he treated all of us. If you think Rinpoche was very strict to His students, this is how he trained his mumus too. If you think he is very “OCD” in planting Dharma imprints on us, he did exactly the same to his mumus and all the animals. Not only that, he would tirelessly use many different methods and approaches according to every single individual’s levels of comprehension to make sure they will get the maximum benefits out of his skilfull teachings, either now or in the future. This is the guru who made me value the importance of Dharma.

Thank you for the sharing , it has very informative information. It is necessary to take serious action to prevent environment and save earth, to reuse and recycle. We should correct our mistakes, selfishness towards our environment. Every single action taken is to maintain the originality of the environment, if for our betterment to make live healthy and safe from pollution.

Though government has formulated various schemes and established laws to prevent and to save the nature environment. Yet it should be still the duty of each individually to protect it for our future generations, as we are the people consuming its benefits.

It is hard to believe but true that only a little positive movements by everyone may bring a huge change in the declining environment. Glad to read about the inventors ideas to protect the nature and help to save our environment. A good article to be shared with family and friends.

“NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Humane law enforcement agents of the ASPCA arrested a Queens woman accused of animal neglect.

Acting on an anonymous complaint, ASPCA agents went to the residence of 47-year-old Ana Herra and found a female mixed breed dog named Julie, who was in “terrible condition.”

According to Joseph Pentangelo, the Assistant Director for Humane Law Enforcement at the ASPCA, when authorities came upon the dog, she was “very weak” and “in need of medical attention.”

Pentangelo told 1010 WINS Saturday that the dog had to be euthanized after having a physical exam at Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital.

“Her health was very compromised and she had not had veterinary attention in a long period of time,” he said.

Herra was charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty. She faces up to one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.

“Animals do depend on us for their care and nobody has to own a pet. But if you do own a pet, you should recognize the responsibility and there are laws that involve that responsibility,” Pentangelo said.”

This depicts a Tibetan system with dealing with corpses. After prayers have been done by the Monks, the cemetery workers will slice up the body of the dead, mix it with barley flour and with prayers scatter it to the vultures. It is the last act of giving for the person who has eaten flesh themselves their whole lives.

It reminds us that our bodies are borrowed and VERY TEMPORARY. It is not a good idea to attach so much to our bodies, but more to our minds. Our minds will leave the bodies and whether we bury, cremate or feed it to animals, we will have to leave it. We have left our bodies so many times in our previous lives and we have no memory of it and neither does anyone else. Some people might find it disrespectful to feed the bodies to the animals, but our bodies will be eaten by insects/maggots anyways when buried. What we do with the dead doesn’t so much affect the dead. It is more for the living. But then the living quickly becomes the dead anyways and then everything is forgotten.

So what is important, is to take care of the mind. Start now. Whenever you feel like quitting, remember your mortality and all the karmas you have accumulated. Nothing is harder than to control one’s negativities and fears, but death doesn’t stop anything, it is just carried over into future lives. So deal with yourselves now and overcome now. THERE’S NO ESCAPE FROM THE SELF.

The Yong He Gong Lama Temple, also known as the ‘Palace of Peace and Harmony Lama Temple’, is a temple and monastery of the Gelug (Yellow Hat) School of Tibetan Buddhism. It is located in the North-Eastern central part of Beijing.

Yong He Gong was built in the 33rd year during the reign of Emperor Kang Xi (1694). It was built as the residence for his 4th son, Prince Yong Zheng. In 1722, Prince Yong Zheng ascended to the throne and moved to the Forbidden City. However, he still had great affection towards the mansion as he had been living there for 30 years. In his third year of reign, Emperor Yong Zheng upgraded it and named the mansion to Yong He Gong.

In 1735, Emperor Yong Zheng passed away and his body was temporarily kept there. After his passing, Emperor Qian Long ascended to the throne. In his 9th year of reign he followed his mother’s instructions, took into consideration his father’s belief in Buddhism and he rebuilt the major halls into Buddhist ones, transforming it into a Tibetan Buddhist temple!

In the Falun Hall, also known as the Great Hall of Scriptures, sits a grand 6 metre statue of the founder of the Gelugpa school, Lama Tsongkhapa. Below is an article on the restoration of Lama Tsongkhapa in the heart of Beijing, China. Take a look at how they restore the gold painting on the beautiful Lama Tsongkhapa. Very nice restoration of something culturally very important to the Chinese nation.

Pemako is located in southeast Tibet. In Tibetan, the word “Pemako” means “Lotus Array” or “Lotus of Great Bliss”. It is a land that intrigues many Western explorers as it is thought to be the sacred land of nectar and bliss as described in Buddhist scriptures.

Pemako is thought to be one of the 16 earthly paradises, a promised land where humanity will survive in the event of worldwide famine or calamities. It was also referred to by Guru Rinpoche as the “supreme hidden land”. Guru Rinpoche had concealed 108 “beyuls” or “hidden valleys” in the Himalayas to be revealed at specific times during the degenerate age. Shambala is the greatest hidden valley, Pemako is another one of them. The Buddhist texts describe these hidden valleys as being reminiscent of paradise. They can only be reached with enormous hardship, and those who force their way through may encounter failure or even, death.

The landscape and geography of Pemako is shaped like that of Vajrayogini’s sacred body in a sleeping posture form.

Her head is Kangri Kangpo (White Snow Mountain)
Her two bosoms are Namche Barwa and Gyala Peri (both mountains)
The lower part of her body lies in Yang Sang (upper Siang region of Arunachal Pradesh)
Her sacred triangle is at the confluence of Siang and Yang Sang (rivers)
Her sacred vulva is at Kila Yangzom
Her navel is a small Nyingmapa monastery called Rinchenpung

This is such a heart-warming story, to go the extra mile for an animal that cannot even say thank you. As a good human being, we have to be kind and generous to not just our kind but to animals as well. We should be even kinder to animals because they are the weaker ones.

Human beings take away their habitats but all they can do is to try to find another place to live in. They have no one to complain to, there is no justice for them. The least we can do is not to harm them and help them whenever we can.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this worthy thoughts. The truth is, if we want to forget something , we need to let go, forgive ourselves, forgive the situation, and realize that the situation is over to move forward in life. Letting go can be one of the most difficult things we can do in our life. If we do not let go we cannot move on, we got to create space to for a new beginning and meaningful life.

Inspiring story of Pang Mipham Gönpo an eighty years old man realising death is near, and had wasted most of his life. He wanted to achieve the highest meditative realisations till his last breath of his life. Well , this is an example for us not to give up whatever matters how hard the situation is.
Age is just a number, Pang Mipham Gönpo met his famous teacher the learned pandit Vairochana and great translator for dharma practice. He practised diligently with the aid of a stick to hold up his chin and a meditation-strap to keep his legs crossed. His determination pays off, he gained realization and attained the rainbow body.
Regardless of how old we are and how difficult it is to practise the Dharma is the right choice. Courage and practice is the most important of all the virtues in spite of all obstacles. With determination, it helps get us through tough situations in life. An inspiring story….a reminder for us not to give up in difficult situation .
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing and the profound teachings.

Which guru shall I choose? | 我应该选择哪一位上师?

We should follow our guru not because of his fame, rank, prestige, power or number of students he has or how big his organization is, but because he helped us to transform our minds to be a better person and we can see this within ourselves. This transformation is sacred. Because he gave us dharma from his heart and loved us.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche makes offering of khata to Dorje Shugden.
Trijang Rinpoche never gave up his devotion to Dorje Shugden no matter how much Tibetan government in exile pressured him to give up. He stayed loyal inspiring so many of us.

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
