NERDs & GEEKs
On Saturday night, my two students Khong Jean Ai and Phng Wee Liang celebrated their birthday! They both rented out Kechara Care and themed the night “Geeks & Nerds”. Everyone…well most of those who came, dressed up! Hehe
Guests put on their suspenders, thick black-framed glasses and snorted their way through the night! All of the Kechara-ians from different departments came and wished the two well wishes. They then stayed on through for a good night of fun. Some 80’s music was played…and then some “younger” beats came on hehe.
Kechara Oasis catered for the event with very yummy vegetarian food. Everyone enjoyed it so much that it was finished way before the end of the night! After everyone mingled, chatted, danced a little and ate ..the two cakes for each of them was cut and presents opened!
This was an early celebration as Jean Ai will be away to the States. Her real birthday is on the 18th of this month, and Wee Liang’s on the 21st.
Jean Ai is one of the youngest full-time Kechara staff. She’s currently working in e-division, a very hard-working and committed division. She is efficient and very thorough with her work. Since young, Jean Ai has always had a big passion to do dharma work, and now that she’s in it she’s going all the way. From Day 1, she has enjoyed her work and would sometimes stay up all-night working uncomplainingly. Her dharma brothers and sisters really care about her.
Wee Liang is currently known in Kechara as “Puja King” hehe. He has been consistently going for all of the weekly pujas (3-4 times a week), and holds his daily sadhana very seriously. He enjoys going to Kechara House to pray, prostrate and just have fun with the people there. If anyone needs any help, and he has the capability to help, you can be sure that he will be there. He is also over-seeing the new gompa renovations and would sometimes be seen checking up on the progress at 3 am! He has a huge desire to help people, especially younger ones.
The success of the night can all be thanked to Bryan, Ethan and Nicholas Yu. They really planned everything well: from the drinks served to the creative decoration.

hahhahaha, i laughed and cracked up so much while reading this, but this is very original and well geeky…hehe. my uncle (Wee Liang) is such a nice guy and he teaches people life lessons all the time, i know he does it to me. happy super late birthday you two! 😀
Wow! These are quite funny and interesting pictures! I am not really sure what a nerd is and what a geek is other than bookworms! KC has really been climbing the ladder of success and they have successfully been able to make many interesting events happen. That is really amazing. I was actually planning to go celebrate at KC for my Birthday last year but it was closed. I plan to go there this year for my Birthday! Haha!
I don’t know what is a nerd or a geek. But somehow I find this birthday party has been creatively planned. The big glasses worn by the guests and birthday boy and girl reminds me of my era when that was the eye fashion during that time then. The suspenders that Clifford wear looks very smart and nice. But normally it is usually worn by heavy set men to hold up their pants so that they won’t slip off due to their big belly. If anyone were to walk into Kechara Care they would not believe that the bunch of youngsters are all Dharma students of Tsem Rinpoche. It was good. It also reminds the people who knew Rinpoche that Rinpoche loves to dress up too when he was young before he became a monk. It is to show that practicing dharma does not neccesarily be boring.
