Manjushri for Justin

(By Tsem Rinpoche)

Dear friends,

This is wonderful and auspicious news for our beloved Justin Ripley.

  1. As you know I have requested a beautiful Manjushri statue to be ordered, painted and filled with mantras and Justin’s ashes and bones. This statue will be placed in the Monastic School where hundreds of young monks chant Manjushri prayers daily and receive their dharma lessons. They will worship this Manjushri and Justin will be with them. They will be with our Justin. Justin’s remains will be inside Manjushri worshiped by the monks daily, monthly, yearly and so on. Manjushri will bless the young monks in their hall.
  2. Ruchok is the ritual you bless the ashes, hair and nails of a deceased person or animal. Once ruchok is done it is permissible to put an ‘ordinary’ persons and animal remains inside a holy statue or stupa together with other holy items. I taught about this on Wesak day this year. This will be done for Justin’s remains.
  3. The great Geshe Ngawang who is a student of my previous life has passed away this year and they have his ashes/bones as he was cremated. Justin is a student of mine in this life. So my student of a previous life and a student of this life will be blessed by ruchok at the same time. Very auspicious. A spiritual coincidence of the highest auspiciousness. Karma and samaya has a way of connecting the sincere together in life and death and then life again. Those who are my loyal friends, I will do my best for you in life and death.
  4. The gold they are waiting for will be offered onto Manjushri’s face to collect merits for Justin. Offering gold onto sacred objects is a Buddhist way of gaining great merits to overcome hardships. I will request the monastery to put a lot of jewellery onto the statues to gain more merits for Justin’s future lives.

I wanted to share this news with you. I am so glad I can do this for our Justin. He passed away in the best possible way anyone can which is doing dharma work. I will do all this for him to insure his good rebirth and his next rebirth to practice dharma. Being his remains are going to be enshrined inside Manjushri, this will bless Justin’s next rebirth to have sharp, clear, penetrative intelligence to grasp the dharma. To be intelligent is not enough. True intelligence differentiates between subtle/gross actions that bring harm and benefit long term… To have that kind of intelligence is rare. The practice of Manjushri can help in that type of rare and supreme intelligence. I wish that for Justin and everyone, hence I requested a Manjushri statue to be offered to the sangha for Justin.

Justin, you are temporarily gone, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN. I will do my best to help your next rebirth and dharma practice.

Tsem Rinpoche

Mantras in the waters of Kechara Forest Retreat-Malaysia

Mantras represent the blessings of the enlightened beings in the form of sound. When we recite mantras they stimulate the various parts of our body to heal itself, to clear itself, to purify itself and to gain higher states of consciousness. Therefore, mantras are very powerful. They can be written, visualised or recited out aloud. The mantras of enlightened beings bless ordinary beings, animals, ethereal or formless beings and everyone in the environment.

In Kechara Forest Retreat, Malaysia, we have a koi fish pond, on which sits a magnificent statue of Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom. When the fish circumambulate around Manjushri they are blessed by his divine presence. At the same time, people who come to visit the pond and circumambulate around Manjushri receive the same blessings.

Along with the Manjushri fish pond, we also have a lake in Kechara Forest Retreat. In the middle of this lake is a Shakyamuni Buddha statue. In both these places we have placed Manjushri mantra stones underneath submerged under the water so that the animals, humans and beings who circumambulate these holy statues, not only circumambulate the images of the Buddhas but also sacred mantras. The is done in order to plant the seeds of enlightenment in their mindstreams so that in the future they are able to realise Bodhicitta, the realisation of Emptiness and higher states of consciousness. So, I thought I would share this little video with everyone. Thank you.

This video, narrated in Chinese, features Manjushri mantra stones. These are stones carved with the sacred mantra of Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom. The mantra of any Buddha is basically the manifestation of the enlightened being in the form of sound. Therefore, Manjushri’s mantra embodies the special qualities of his transcendent wisdom. Offering of these mantras stones is likened to an offering of Manjushri-like speech to the Three Jewels.

Sponsoring and offering such stones has the benefit of gaining deeper insight into spiritual practice, improving one’s memory, critical thinking, creativity, language and the purification of negative karma related to speech. It also promotes the development of powerful speech that has a positive impact on others.

In the video we see mantra stones placed at the majestic Four-armed Manjushri statue in Kechara Forest Retreat, Malaysia. The more stones are offered there, the more benefit it brings to the person circumambulating and paying homage to Lord Manjushri. These stones are available at Naropa’s Cave in Kechara Forest Retreat and can be offered to the statue of Manjushri here just as you see in the video.

    Dear All

I would like to share with you the sacred prayer of Manjushri – A Concert Names of Manjushri (’Jam-dpal mtshan-brjod, Skt. Mañjuśrī-namasamgiti), which consists of 160 verses and mantra sentences. One version is translated by Alexander Berzin, a scholar, translator, and teacher of Tibetan Buddhism, and the other one is from FPMT.

Isn’t this just beautiful? I am so glad to know Justin will do just fine and will be back!

Manjushri for Justin is very fitting as He represents wisdom. I hope when Justin comes back he will be a teacher to teach us the Dharma assisting Rinpoche.

  5. Bryan on May 26, 2012 at 4:36 pm

Our dear Justin Ripley will never be forgotten. I don’t want him to go, but no one can stop one’s karma to ripen. I still remember how he passed on that evening, and I still feel a kind of “lost” feeling when I think of him even now.

Rinpoche have told us with the merits and good karma that Justin collected by serving the Dharma and others this life time already ensure he will goes to a nice place in his next life, and he will get near to Dharma since very young age.

We must thanks to Justin even this blog that we reading everyday was design and set up by Justin Ripley, Joy, Seng Piow and Tsem Rinpoche, can you imagine how many of us have benefited from this blog and the merits that Justin and the team collected by setting this up ?

Tsem Rinpoche mentioned Justin will not need a long puja on his wake because the merits that Justin collected is good enough to bring him to better place. Tsem Rinpoche later mentioned he would like to sponsor a 3 feet Manjushri statue to be place in the prayer hall where hundred of young monks will have their practice everyday there. Justin really spent his whole life or even after to contribute to others.

This is also one of the way we can do for our love ones, we can sponsor Buddha statues, Dharma texts or renovation funds towards a temple, monastery or the sanghas on behalf of the deceased. By doing this will helps the person to collect a big amount of merits that we are able to bring with us wherever we go.

We also received the news from the monastery , the holy sanghas have performed very holy and sacred Vajrayogini pujas to blessed Justin’s ashes and they have used the blessed ashes to made some different tsa tsa which will be placed inside this Manjushri statue and big stupa in KFR. http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/gallery/photos-on-the-go.html?nggpu=http://blog.tsemtulku.com/wp-content/gallery/photos-on-the-go/moby-to-a5qlqj.jpg

I must said we are lucky to meet a guru like Tsem Rinpoche, this is only a part of things that Tsem Rinpoche have done for the students. Tsem Rinpoche have make sure all the students are well take care alive or passed.

I rejoice that Justin’s bones and ashes are in the statue of Lord Manjushri which is being placed in the monastic school for young monks. Every morning, the young monks will be praying to Lord Manjushri , the Buddha of Wisdom, before their classes start. Justin will receive tremendous merits to bless his mindstream so that, in his new rebirth, he will be able to attain clear, sharp, penetrative insight to differentiate between “subtle and gross actions that bring harm and benefit in the long run”. This intelligence is very important for us have in order to understand Dharma in all its subtleties.

Rinpoche, in his great love and compassion, looks after his students(like very diligent and committed Justin, without whom this blog might not have been set up so speedily)even after they have departed this life. He cares very much for his students'(in fact everybody’s) future lives.

How auspicious to have a Manjushri statue dedicated to them.
Justin is so blessed to be able to serve Rinpoche and His Ladrang during his last few years. Even after Justin’s passing, Rinpoche still miss and care for Justin so much. This shows how loving and caring Rinpoche is always!
May the merits accumulated from this bring you back to us soon so that you may continue to benefit many like you did in this life.

Rinpoche’s care for a person is far beyond just this life, Justin has been working very hard for Dharma, it is beneficial to him, it is also beneficial to many thousands of people in the future from this ground work Justin has worked on.

It is very blessed for our remaining after we died to be able to insert inside Manjushri Statue, the blessing anyone can have will last lifetime after lifetime, for them to be able to walk into footsteps of Dharma again and again.

Some little information to share about Manjushri

Mañjuśrī is depicted as a male bodhisattva wielding a flaming sword in his right hand, representing the realization of transcendent wisdom which cuts down ignorance and duality. The scripture supported by the lotus held in his left hand is a Prajñāpāramitā sūtra, representing his attainment of ultimate realization from the blossoming of wisdom. Mañjuśrī is often depicted as riding on a blue lion, or sitting on the skin of a lion. This represents the use of wisdom to tame the mind, which is compared to riding or subduing a ferocious lion.

There are many things which we can only find in Kechara and not anywhere else on this earth. Two of the things which I find irreplacable is Rinpoche and Justin.

We all know how Rinpoche cares for his students, his people, his family. Rinpoche does not only care for the person based on what that person wants but bases it for the benefit of that person. And on that point, Rinpoche expresses his care not only on the basis of this life time alone but on a long term basis which transcends time and more often than not, this lifetime itself. Where can we find this care/love in other places?

Justin has been a brother and friend for a long time now. His silence is deeply felt now within the organization but at the same time the part of our lives which he’s touched in us definitely have brought many onto the path of finding their spiritual path. Looking forward to seeing you soon bro!

This post is pretty cool, coz it’s a great example to the closeness of the Guru-Disciple relationship.

When we take refuge it is said we take refuge in our guru till we reach enlightenment. To be guided life after life until enlightenment by our guru depends on us student’s creating the cause for it to happen. In Justin’s previous life, he took refuge in, was a devoted student of and served Rinpoche till his last breath.

He created the causes for Rinpoche to continue to guide him even after he passes away. This statue will generate an immense amounts of merits for Justin’s spiritual practice. May he quickly get connected with Manjushri from a young age.

I like how Rinpoche says, “Karma and samaya has a way of connecting the sincere together in life and death and then life again. Those who are my loyal friends, I will do my best for you in life and death.”

Being around Rinpoche, we continue to create karmic relations with those around Rinpoche. It’s almost like in life after life our paths continue to cross each others’ in some way – till (hopefully) we reach the end of the line.

    Dear Rinpoche,

Thank you so much (in Mum’s words) Four simple words I think carries a world of meaning from somewhere deep within all our hearts.

How do we feel when we hear these words or say these words from the heart. Even writing this now close to tears it feels like just yesterday. Mum’s response and Justin’s quiet actions certainly inspire and move hearts and minds.

We wish that the real result will be one of transforming your minds and hearts – because at the end of the day what is the point of remembering someone without some sort of result – that would bring peace of mind.

Justin lived a meaningful life in dharma, supported by his loving wife Joy and supported by his family – Rinpoche and Kechara Friends.

The real lesson being that with the support of family and loved ones any-thing is possible(Justin certainly proved this by his actions).

A life lived well is the sum of many relationships and many life lessons along the way. Thank you Rinpoche & Kechara Family for looking after our Dear Justin with much care and love.

    Thank you so much

    Ripley Family

Dear Rinpoche, your care for your students goes beyond their life time. I rejoice for Justin and all your other students. You are truly a compassionate and caring teacher. I hope and wish that many many more people will get the opportunity to become your student. It is truly a rare blessing.

  29. Li Kheng on May 10, 2012 at 1:33 pm

May Justin always meet the Dharma lifetime after lifetime.

As Rinpoche always say: Rinpoche is not so worried about what happens to us this lifetime. The great concern is our future lifetimes. One can truly rest in peace if we believe strongly that we will take a good rebirth in conditions that will enable us to meet the Dharma.

With the arrangement for Justin above, it can be sure that Justin will certainly find his way back to the 3 Jewels. I am very happy for him and his family for this blessing.

May more people gather the merits needed this lifetime to have the same good fortune as Justin. From Juntin’s story (setting a clear precedence), we would know that the blessings of the 3 Jewels is within our own control through the actions of our body, speech and mind. This is such an empowering piece of knowledge that we must not waste it by solely engaging in worldly matters.

  30. Li Kim on May 9, 2012 at 11:32 pm

This is wonderful news. Justin is truly blessed, even when he has left us, by Rinpoche’s kindness and compassion. All this is amazing to learn about taking a loved one’s remains to be placed in a statue so that he/she can still collect merits in death. Yes I believe Justin is only gone for now… As Rinpoche did say last year when he passed, we will see him again. Now that his remains are in Manjushri and monks will be chanting Manjushri prayers… I look forward to meeting him in his coming life!

We are all blessed in doing Dharma…Let’s go all the way and live a good life now and in the future lives.

Reading this article brings tears to my eyes from thinking of and missing Justin. Also from the emotion I experience from the great love and compassion from Rinpoche to his students. I consider myself very lucky to be one.

We Kecharians are very very fortunate to have Rinpoche as our Guru who as Beng Kooi says will look after us in our future lives.

In this life, we have the chance to learn from Rinpoche both in Rinpoche’s teachings and Rinpoche’s actions. In following Rinpoche’s instructions, we have the opportunity to purify our negative Karma and prepare for a good rebirth.

Rinpoche’s care for Justin can only mean one thing. The result of Justin’s own karma. The choice that Justin made before he passed away. We all have that choice to make as well. Seeing how fortunate Justin is makes me want to do dharma all the way till the end. The result of Justin’s commitment is Rinpoche’s care from before till many lives, a good rebirth and continuous blessings by the three jewels to come back to the path of Enlightenment and benefit more people in future. Justin is a true inspiration and I miss him dearly.

Thank you, dear Rinpoche for your unconditional love and care for your students. I may not have had the privilege to know Justin in person, but from the postings I read and stories I have heard, I am 100% sure he was a great man with a big heart and an amazing personality. When we sincerely love and care for another person, we will always do what is best for him / her and not think much about ourselves, naturally. It is effortless effort and totally inspiring. This is what I learned from this sharing and I hope that I have the wisdom to apply it in my life to benefit others.

    With folded hands,
    Wendy

“A real guru is not concerned about your current life. A real guru is concerned about your next life.”

How true these verses are, and what a perfect example Rinpoche is of what a guru should be like. During Justin’s last few months, Rinpoche kept Justin constantly by his side in preparation for his passing, and after he had passed, Rinpoche did constant prayers daily for his good rebirth.

Those who knew Justin while he was alive would know his propensity to absorb the Dharma, to quietly digest it before spouting out amazing summaries of the teaching that Rinpoche just gave. Justin easily transformed Rinpoche’s teachings into real-life application of the Dharma, and it would come as no surprise to me if Justin was closely connected to Manjushri in his previous life too, such was his amazing ability to absorb dharma.

We all know that Justin has already taken a good rebirth, and it is only a matter of time before he returns to Kechara and to Rinpoche’s side. Justin we all miss you and can’t wait for you to be back.

  43. Pastor Susan on May 8, 2012 at 10:36 pm

A few days ago, someone relatively new to Kechara asked me about our dear justin, that he died so young despite the Dharma. I was glad this person asked me as it’s our opportunity to explain and clear any wrong views. We all will face death one day..no one can escape it. But for Justin, he died doing what he loved most. He died in the presence of many friends and most of all, his guru, Tsem Tulku Rinpoche who is able to help him take a good rebirth. I’m happy to see this beautiful statue of Manjushri..gosh…Justin really has such good merits that every day from now on, he will still benefit from the prayers of many monks…all because of the kindness and blessings of Rinpoche.

I miss you very much Justin but I am at peace knowing you are well and fueled with merits for this new rebirth.

It is wonderful to know that Rinpoche is doing his utmost best to ensure Justin gains a good rebirth in his next life and meet with precious Dharma as well as the brilliance to understand, assimilate and practise Dharma. Certainly Justin had created virtuous deeds in his previous lives to have a virtuous guru to take good care of him until the end of Samsara.

Wonderful person has the most wonderful blessing by our spiritual guide although he is no longer with us. Justin maybe away but he is always loved and remembered.
Rinpoche is always compassionate and caring towards his students. Thank you Rinpoche for such a wonderful post.

  46. philyong on May 8, 2012 at 9:10 pm

H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche care for his students goes beyond just this life. Justin was a dear Dharma friend who passed away not long ago and Rinpoche mentioned that Justin will be okay. I believe Rinpoche because through his actions, Rinpoche has proven over and over again the words he said. He literally walks the talk.

Justin, myself and the many people in Kechara are very fortunate to have met Rinpoche. Only he can make sure we are well, that’s of course we have to behave ourselves either. Rinpoche elps us by guilding us to the right path. Those who do not choose that path will lose out eventually. I have seen it with my own eyes.

  47. patsy on May 8, 2012 at 9:06 pm

I am so touched by what Rinpoche is doing for Justin Ripley.Justin deserved all these as he had strong guru devotion with Rinpoche and he had collected the merits for Rinpoche to guide and help him in his next rebirth.

Doing dharma work and having strong samaya with one’s Guru reap tremendous benefits and Justin set that example. Justin will definitely take a good rebirth and come back to be near Rinpoche and Kechara. We are all waiting for that day.

    Thank you, Rinpoche.

  48. KYC on May 8, 2012 at 8:35 pm

I’m very happy for Justin because I know he is well-taken care of. Rinpoche’s love for his students, past and present, is immeasurable.

  49. Kechara Forest Retreat on May 8, 2012 at 7:17 pm

Justin is still being missed even though time has passed by so quickly. I still remember that day where you left us and we were all in shock. But now, we know that you are in a better place and well taken cared of. Even now, Rinpoche is still taking care of you by having your remains enshrined in this Manjushri at the monastery, in honour of you. Come back soon.

Rinpoche is always very compassionate. He even takes care of students of his previous life and making sure that they are always ok. Rinpoche has not even met Geshe Ngawang yet Rinpoche is doing Ruchok for him.

  50. Pastor Yek Yee on May 8, 2012 at 6:59 pm

It is not easy for us who knew Justice that accepted he had left. However, the fact is he had left us. But I am rejoice that his ashes and bones can insert into a very holy Manjushri’s statue.

The care and love’s Rinpoche giving always make us feel touched and moved. Cannot be forget. Thank you for Rinpoche’s kindness.

  51. James Long on May 8, 2012 at 6:11 pm

Life will be totally different without meeting Rinpoche and the Dharma. We have our own karma to go through which is better? To go through without Dharma or without Dharma. Justin deserved for the blessing for all the hard work he did.

He and joy was the first few person to set up this Blog and now benefiting so many people even after he left. If we die tonight, what have we achieve in life? House? Car? Business? More girl or more boyfriend? Nothing will last. Justin’s work will be remembered. Thank you Rinpoche for taking care of every student via different method.

  52. Sock Wan on May 8, 2012 at 5:45 pm

The Manjushri statue has arrived and ready. I feel so happy for our Dharma brother. Even though he had passed on but he had left something beneficial behind. He had spent so much effort and time in building this website for Rinpoche to spread Dharma and so many has benefited. Thank you Justin, we are waiting for you.

  53. Ethan Chu on May 8, 2012 at 4:49 pm

Justin is remarkable person, very easy going, kind, quiet and doesn’t make trouble. He is that kind when he sees you need help, he’ll jump in and whatever he can. When we lost Justin, it was difficult. Til this very day, i still miss him deeply. This Manjushri statue is going to mean so much to the Kecharians and myself. Not only Justin is blessed by this holy image, the ritual and it is place in a very holy place where the world can pay visit and respect and get blessing. It will bless many and not to mention a monk whom i met in India Geshe Ngwang was a very pure and holy monk. Upon seeing or even hearing him, you’ll cry because you’ll feel his compassion.

It is wonderful to see that when you practice and understand the dharma, whether it is current or future life, you can do something beneficial for yourself and others.

  54. MayOng on May 8, 2012 at 4:32 pm

The kindness of our lama is unlimitless. Tsem Rinpoche planned, arranged, compiled and sent Justin’s ashes all the way to the monastery to be housed together with another Geshe who was his previous life’s student into Manjushri to collect merits and continue to create the connection to dharma in future lives.

May we also create the cause for this to happen to us, after our lifetime is over. Thank you Rinpoche for doing this for Justin. May Justin come back to us soon.

  55. Han on May 8, 2012 at 4:24 pm

I like what KHOO said in his comment,
“Before meeting Kechara, I was always troubled by the thought of death. But after learnt that how our mind still exist after death and how we can train our mind to overcome the fear that comes with death, and most importantly, how we as a lay person can also do something for our next life. Now, death is no longer a big concern but how to live my current life.”

Rinpoche unconditionally taking care of all of us, including our rebirth and Justin Ripley is one of the very good example. I believe I trust Rinpoche and go all the way with dharma, at the moment of death (do not know when ?) If we are sincerely practicing dharma, there is no fear at the time of death.

Justin used to call up KSA to restart the CCTV whenever there is an internet problem…..in my heart he is still watching over us on the other side…..Now seeing a Manjushri statue will always remind me of Justin..Never to be forgotten.May you take a swift and good rebirth and be with us again.

It is indeed very wonderful and auspicious news and I rejoice for Justin. Rinpoche has always be kind to us and we know that also in passing. We have already been invited to pass our nails and hair to be inserted in the Vajrayogini Stupa at Chamang.
I thank Rinpoche from the bottom of my heart for your care and your compassion.

  59. Victor Phang on May 8, 2012 at 3:28 pm

    Dear Rinpoche:
Your compassion is incontestable!!! Another eye opening arrangement and really beyond what I can think of to remember a person. Very touching way to remember our dharma brother. Your update always make me speechless because that is no word which able to describe your heavenly love – so broad, so thoughtful, so touching.

I rejoice for Justin Ripley. Now I understood, with crystal clear and sincere compassion, actually we can do many many meaningful things to love a person.

Thank you very much for showing us the power of your heavenly compassion.
    Take very good care.
    With love,
    VP

    • Su Ming on May 8, 2012 at 4:46 pm

      Dear Victor,

Rinpoche mind has NEVER stop thinking of how to benefit his students even after they are no longer around. It is still hard for Rinpoche to talk about Justin as Rinpoche was extremely close to him. On one hand, Justin was Rinpoche student and yet at the same time, Justin was also a close friend to Rinpoche.

Even after Justin passed away, when everyone was “mourning” Rinpoche immediately started to plan how to benefit Justin in his next life. This Manjushri statue is just one the action Rinpoche has done for Justin, there are more. Even the location of where this statue will be placed is personally approved by Rinpoche. The location which was chosen is very good and it is one of the prime spot.

Rinpoche’s love and compassion has no boundaries unlike all of us. Rinpoche has only one agenda which is to make sure we will be ok in our next rebirth. 2 days ago, Rinpoche spoke to a small group of his close student about him never giving up on his students and he will continue to take care of them spiritually and materially. There are some of Rinpoche student who has done many things wrong but Rinpoche is still able to forgive them and constantly finding methods to benefit them.

      We are INDEED VERY LUCKY.

  60. David Lai on May 8, 2012 at 3:20 pm

I rejoice for Justin and I am glad that he had certain gone to a better place and with the blessings of Vajrayogini and Manjushri, may he meet the Dharma early, practice the Dharma and gain the highest initiation of Varjayogini.

He is very fortunate to have passed away in such a manner that ensured that he passed away while in the service of the Dharma. It was too young an age for anyone to pass on but Karma has no conscience. May his next life be longer and filled with Dharma. If I had to die, I would like to die in a similar manner and my remains scattered in a similar fashion.

  61. mayy on May 8, 2012 at 2:43 pm

My eyes teared with joy for Justin for he is so fortunate to be remembered in this way! Am so happy for you Justin…wherever you are. You are always loved and remembered.

Rinpoche always cares for others even one has passed away! It is important that one must always listen to your Guru’s advice and guidance and put them into practise.

  62. lewkwanleng on May 8, 2012 at 2:20 pm

Time flies.. It has already been more than 4 months since our brother Justin passed away. I still miss him dearly because he has shown me good qualities of a good Dharma brother.

My parents are very kind to me, because they have provided what I needed for this life: good education, good environment, etc. They are very kind, and I really appreciate them. On the other hand, our Guru is even more kind, because He takes care of our future lives too: to make sure we have a good rebirth and can connect to Dharma again and again in all future life times.

I am very glad for bro Justin because he is not forgotten, and what Guru is doing for him will benefit his future lives again and again.

Bro, I can’t wait for you to come back!

  63. jennifer on May 8, 2012 at 2:18 pm

I’m very very moved and touched by what Rinpoche is doing for Justin. How very blessed Justin is.
Justin please come back quickly , that i can meet you again in my this lifetime.

  64. Joy on May 8, 2012 at 2:04 pm

How fortunate Justin is to have met a precious Guru like Rinpoche and Dharma. Although he was with us for a very short period of time, he gave his all and did his best whole heartedly and he did it for his mother, his brothers and the people he loved. It was the best gift he could offer to them and so he did it.

His life, has touched so many and has been a tremendous teaching to so many. Although he is dearly missed but he will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. He is irreplaceable.

May Jus come back soon to continue his practice and to reconnect with his Guru and the Dharma swiftly.

Thank you Rinpoche for the type of love and care that is beyond ordinary.

  65. Carmen Koo on May 8, 2012 at 1:36 pm

    Dear Rinpoche,

Thank you for sharing this wonderful news about the Manjushri statue that is being done for Justin, as well as the Ruchok for both Justin and Geshe Ngawang, both who held great devotion and faith in Rinpoche.

In this way, Justin will be forever connected to Dharma and the 3 Jewels. How fortunate we are to have Rinpoche guide and lead us all the way till enlightenment. As the receiver, it is all just on our part..whether we have enough merits to receive this from Rinpoche or not. And if we don’t, are we using our time wisely to create the tremendous amount of merits we are in dire need of?

Justin is a shining example, of Rinpoche’s endless care towards the students. Not only for this life, but for our future lives as well. How extremely lucky we are to have met Rinpoche, of all places, in Malaysia, who shows us the path towards the ultimate truth.

    Love,
    Carmen.

This is the most precious event to happen in one’s life. To have our guru take care of us even when we are dead and not just in this life but also in all lifes. How kind is our guru. I know I will never ever be able to repay my guru for all his care and kindness. The only way I can think of now is to follow his instructions all the way. Thank you so much, Rinpoche.

  67. Thierry Janssens on May 8, 2012 at 12:52 pm

As students of Rinpoche, we are NEVER FORGOTTEN.
And we should in turn, also NEVER FORGET ANYONE.
Thank you Rinpoche for leading by example, for inspiring, for guiding, for teaching us with persistence, with compassion, with love and with great patience.

  68. Paris on May 8, 2012 at 12:28 pm

As much as every one of us misses Justin deeply, I do think that if he had to go at this time, he did go in the best possible place, surrounded by his closest friends, Dharma family and most importantly his Guru. It is said that the Guru looks after his students not just in this one lifetime, but across every single lifetime until that student is enlightened – the Guru has a far greater responsibility than the student does (and very few of us realise that).

We see this in action now. Rinpoche didn’t just do some prayers for Justin when he passed and left it at that. This statue was Rinpoche’s personal idea, to create something holy for him that would endure well into many of his future lives. This applies too for Geshe Ngawang – a clear example as ever of how a Lama continues to look after his student across lifetimes. Rinpoche also has plans to put Justin’s ashes in stupas at our new retreat center, again to generate tremendous merit for him in his future lives, to always be connected to the blessings of the Three Jewels.

It should be our greatest hope to be this near to our Lamas when we pass away. But then again, if we have the right faith, he WILL BE THERE, right next to us, no matter where we are or when we pass away. It’s whether we will have enough tremendous merit to see him and receive his help at that time. I am so happy that Justin did. That he devoted his whole life to the service of others. And in that, he served himself in the best possible way, right up until his last breath.

We all love and miss you Justin – come back soon and let the adventures begin again xxxxxx

  69. abby F on May 8, 2012 at 12:11 pm

Thank you to Rinpoche and Justin for showing me death is nothing to be scared of, if we use our life fully to do Dharma! If we are loyal and dedicate, our Guru and the Three Jewel will never let us down. And I am very happy for Justin, because what Rinpoche has promised to do, Rinpoche will do it flawlessly.

There is nothing more meaningful than practice Dharma and get a good rebirth or even get enlightened.

  70. Sean Pang on May 8, 2012 at 11:35 am

    Dear Rinpoche,

Thank you for sharing this news with us. It’s yet another revelation for me. You told us on Wesak Day that you’re a logical Guru and that’s something I really appreciate in you but I’m beginning to realise that the realm of your logic is much much bigger than what I thought I understood. It transcends time. I am humbled and awed. I pray for the intelligence to receive your teachings.

Just as you are an inspiration to all of us, Rinpoche, we should rejoice to have a fellow student who serves as an example to us. Even when he is no longer with us, Justin is still supporting Rinpoche in delivering a teaching.

The way I see it, what you are doing for Geshe Ngawang and Justin Ripley is Student Devotion, which is a direct result of their Guru Devotion towards you. They are great role models and I thank them for that.

With love and respect from your new student,

    Sean in Shanghai

Rinpoche always care for the students. whether the students is in Malaysia or not, whether it is close to H.E or not. From sending some gifts, to building stupas and to have a statues for the students, H.E care for the students not only this life, but life after life. TO me, it is very rare to be able to meet up or even able to hear the teachings from such a compassion and wisdom Teacher.
I believe Justin will definitely have good rebirth and close to Rinpoche again.

    Dear Tsem Tulku Rinpoche,

When I woke up this morning, and the very first thing I read/see is a post on Manjushri and the beautifull samaya it has with those fortunate enough to be able to create this bond is truly inspirational in its own natural essence.

No words could ever express this feeling, it has somehow manage to motivate me into creating more affinity with people to those who has yet come to know of this great being.

With the Guru’s blessing I would like to share an extraction of verses in the King of Prayers, that I find very meaningful :

” I shall enter the very presence of all my guides,
Those lights of this world who are yet to appear,
Those sequentially turning the wheels of complete awakening,
Those who reveal nirvana – final, perfect peace.

May I achieve the power of swift, magical emanation,
The power to lead to the great vehicle through every approach,
The power of always beneficial activity,
The power of love pervading all realms,
The power of all surpassing positive potential,
The power of supreme knowledge unobstructed by discrimination,
And through the power of wisdom, skillful means, and samadhi,
May I achieve the perfect power of awakening.

Purifying the power of all contaminated actions,
Crushing the power of disturbing emotions at thier root,
Defusing the power of interfering forces,
I shall perfect the power of the bodhisattva practice.

May I purify an ocean of worlds,
May I free an ocean of beings,
May I clearly see an ocean of Dharma,
May I realize an ocean of pristine Wisdom.

May I purify an ocean of activities,
May I fulfill an ocean of aspirations,
May I make offerings to an ocean of Buddhas,
May I practice without discouragement for an ocean of eons.

To awaken fully through this bodhisattva way,
    I shall fulfill without exception
All the diverse aspirations of the awakening practice
Of all Buddhas gone to freedom in the three times everywhere. ”

Thank you so much Justin Ripley, you will always be remembered.
    Sadhu…Sadhu… *palms at heart*

Rinpoche kindness to his students could not be describes, and this is shown here where Justin Ripley and Geshe Ngawang hairs and remains is being blessed through Ruchok and then their remains inserted into the beautiful Manjushri statue.

Rinpoche cares for his students really touches many, and it touches me to see that 2 of Rinpoche students being taken care even after their passing, in ensuring they will have a good rebirth and will be born in a better condition and environment to continue to practice Dharma and do Dharma to benefit others.

It is almost half a year passed and I can still remember my last conversation with Justin. I’m an IT guy and Justin was very interested in IT, so we have quite a lot to talk about during that time. I was quite sad that time but after he was dying with Rinpoche’s presence, it somehow made me felt very relieve. I know all the things that Rinpoche have done to Justin, he will comes back with the chance to continue learning and practise Dharma, with the intelligence to understand Dharma. Before meeting Kechara, I was always troubled by the thought of death. But after learnt that how our mind still exist after death and how we can train our mind to overcome the fear that comes with death, and most importantly, how we as a lay person can also do something for our next life. Now, death is no longer a big concern but how to live my current life.

This is so wonderful. Rinpoche shows his great compassion always and want to make sure his students will take good rebirths in the future. This a true sign of a genuine, real teacher – he worries about your next lives and want to make sure you’ll be alright. From the moment of becoming his student, Rinpoche guides you to transform and even after your passing, he wants to make sure you’ll always be connected to the holy Dharma. Thank you, Rinpoche.

Beautiful Manjustri, it is just so serene and peaceful to look at her face.
Rejoice for Justin to be in the Manjushri and worship by the young monks in the monastery.
May i also work harder and create the Karmic link to be with Justin and the great Geshe Ngawang and other students to study, practise and serve Rinpoche life after life. May we gain the true intelligence to differentiates between between subtle/gross actions that bring harm and benefit long term and able to share it with others for them to have the true intelligence too.

  84. David Loh on May 8, 2012 at 9:21 am

What an honour to have one’s bones and ashes fill the sacred Manjushri statue. Where ever Justin is now, I am sure he will be elated! It is really touching that a guru can care and do so much for a student! Shouldn’t students do more for their guru?

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing. You are truly a role model and inspiration for all!

  85. Edward Ooi on May 8, 2012 at 9:14 am

Many Kecharians, their families and friends have collected their cleaned hair and fingernails to be handed to Rinpoche via the Ladrang staff more than two years ago. Justin Ripley and Kecharians are so fortunate. Many new people to Kechara will also be accorded the same fortune. As Rinpoche taught, This fortune will be to insure good future rebirths.

  86. Don Buchwalter on May 8, 2012 at 8:55 am

How wonderful that Justin will be a part of the Lord Manjushri statue, and that it will always be honoured by the many monks that pass through the school!

Rinpoche, your concern for others is truly an inspiration. The “Song of Longing for Tara the Infallible” reminds me of you in many ways. I know I can trust in you to be true, and to guide us in the correct manner because of your great compassion – even in these degenerate times.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, Rinpoche!

Venerable Ajahn Chah was a Thai Buddhist teacher of the Buddhadhamma and a founder of two major monasteries in the Thai Forest Tradition. Well respected and loved as a man of great wisdom, he was also instrumental in establishing Theravada Buddhism in the West. Interesting life story, how he chose to leave the settled monastic life and became a wandering ascetic. Walking across Thailand, lived in forests, caves and cremation grounds while learning from the meditation monks of the Forest of various monasteries. He wandered through the countryside in quest of quiet and secluded places for developing meditation. He even lived in tiger and cobra infested jungles, using reflections on death to penetrate to the true meaning of life. After years of wandering, Venerable Ajahn Chah established a monastery where he taught simple, practice-based form of meditation, and attracted a numerous of students including western foreigners. He was one of the greatest Dhamma teachers of the modern era. His wise teachings have continued to guide thousands of people along the path of Dharma. Venerable Ajahn Chah’s teachings of the Thai Forest Tradition gradually spread across all over the world. Several of Ajahn Chah’s Western students have since established monasteries throughout the world. Just in Thailand itself, there are more than 300 branch monasteries in Ajahn Chah’s tradition. Ven erable Ajahn Chah used his ill health as a teaching point, emphasizing that it was a living example of the impermanence of all things and reminded people to endeavour to find a true refuge within themselves. Wonderful blog written on the practice of Kalarupa for us to understand better. As an emanation of Manjushri, Kalarupa’s practice helps us to destroy ignorance and to develop wisdom overcoming our anger and suffering . Awesome Kalarupa manifested in multiple forms to help sentient beings who personifies enlightenment by the conquest of anger. Kalarupa also regard as one of the three main Dharma protectors of the Gelugpa is extremely fierce and ugly, and tames all kinds of spiritual ugliness. The fierceness of his iconography teaches us to remind ourselves that all the causes and effects of anger arising from ignorance are dreadful and distorted.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor Antionette for this detailed sharing,

Nepal is a very spiritual country, having a huge Dorje Shugden mural in Kathmandu, is indeed a big achievement for Kechara. Located on Charkhal Road in Dilli Bazaar, the mural can be found midway between our two Dorje Shugden chapels which are in Putalisadak and Chabahil. It is also very close to one of Kathmandu’s largest shopping malls. Many locals , tourist will be able to connect them to a powerful deity that is so closely associated with their culture. Well the mural not only beautiful but also full of symbolism and everyone merely by seeing it is blessed. Thanks to those talented artists and generous sponsors making it a success.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on. Letting go helps us to live in a more peaceful state of mind and helps restore our balance. A reminder for us all to go of attachment and meditating on impermanence and emptiness. We are to relinquish the domination of our ego and its habits to transform ourselves. A great reminder not to waste our previous life.
Quoted Ceasing to do evil, Cultivating the good, Purifying the heart .
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing such a meaningful teachings with folded hands.

Winning the lottery was part of my dreams, I tried so hard to win big but all to no avail, until I came across Dr Lucas online who made my dreams come through and made me win 10 million dollars. I was a logistics manager who lives in Lancaster, S.C. and works about an hour’s drive away, in Charlotte, N.C., I stopped at a store to buy a scratch-off lottery ticket during my lunch break, because Dr Lucas gave me all the assurance that the numbers are not going to fail after I did all he asked me to do. Dr lucas is a powerful Dr that is on a mission to eradicate poverty from people’s lives and i have confirmed that by winning $10 million with the numbers he provided for me, it is my promise to tell the world about my experience with Dr Lucas and that’s what I’m doing now, you can win the lottery fast with the help of Dr Lucas he is tested and trusted Email: Drlucasspelltemple@gmail. com or WhatsApp +234 904 794 3567 he will help you.

We are members of the Buddhist Temple in Taman Desa Jaya, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur and we have been issued membership by the president (DATUK YIP KUM FOOK), we are very sad because we are the foundation of this Temple

Now we can know who is always messing with people, and he always cheats money and women, he even uses Buddhism to find money.

Also, need to be careful with his brother-in-law (Simon Low Kok Meng) because he is a spy (CID) for DATUK YIP KUM FOOK and we will write some letters to AGONG SULTAN IBRAHIM IBN ALMARHUM SULTAN ISKANDAR as soon as possible.

The matriarchal cultures of the grandmothers have specific symbolism of animism shamanism, such as the horse, especially the blue horse, and the deer. These are two main symbols of a shaman woman and you can find them in many cultural folk lore, especially the Russian, Slavic, Siberian, Nordic, Finland, and Norway. It’s nice to see the Matriarchal Shaman Animism diety represented in Chinese.

An inspiring act of a selfless Lama feeding strays whether its night or day. Truly an example for us all to feed those lonely strays . Yes I do agree compassion starts with feeding strays. Reading this blog again to refresh myself to do more. Strays animals generally lead a life of poor welfare on the street. Feeding strays is a compassionate act.
Thank you Rinpoche and Anila for this sharing.

H E Tsem Rinpoche’s Sungbum project aim to preserve the teachings and practices that have been passed from teacher to disciple in an unbroken line beginning with Lama Tsongkhapa himself . History has taught us the importance of preserving Buddha’s stainless teachings. Its important to preserve and safeguard the Buddhist tradition for future generations.

Demons are disembodied spirits, supernatural being or spirit and unseen beings. We know they do exist and I believe they do. They have no physical form to them whatsoever. Demons do definitely exist. They are intelligent beings who are evil malicious spirits and are all dangerous entities. Valak is not to be summoned capriciously by anyone as they are dangerous beings when we invoke them having to face a heavy consequence. There are spiritual practices that we can ask for help a ritual of the wrathful Manjushri in the form of Trakze. Having a doing the practice daily without fail, consistently, as this Trakze practice has been proven to be efficacious to break the hold the Valak and other spirits. All thanks to our Guru bringing this practice to Kechara Forest Retreat, Bentong Malaysia.
Thank you Rinpoche for this wonderful sharing for us to understand better.

Wow ,reading all these powerful quotes had me realised much better of giving even I have little. May H E Tsem Rinpoche’s sincere advice to reach the far shore of liberation to everyone reading this blog. The most truly generous people are those who give silently without asking any in return. There is no exercise better than reaching and lifting people up. A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal. Well creating and lighting for others we naturally light our own way. Helping others especially those unfortunate ones, make us feel more positive about our own circumstances.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing all these powerful quotes.

Lama Tsongkhapa was an influential Tibetan Buddhist monk, philosopher and tantric yogi, whose activities led to the formation of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism . Lama Tsongkhapa was hailed as the second Buddha by contemporary Buddhist masters of his time. Famous for reviving Buddhism in Tibet and revered for elevating the Dharma to all its present glory. Hence having a 12 ft Lama Tsongkhapa Statue at new Kechara Gompa (Prayer Hall) is indeed a blessing. Its truly beautiful. Merely by looking at it is a blessing .
Thank you Rinpoche and team effort making it possible.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer

He shared that he truly believes that Dorje Shugden and Rinpoche always there guiding him. He shared how sometimes DS will give him hints to avert troubles ahead or to alert him when he 'misbehaved'. Hope many will come to know more about this powerful Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugden aka DS. Having Dorje Shugden is like having a powerful ally that will protect us day and night.
