Extremely unbelievable , I do find it and glad to have some knowledge as every time we sneeze our heart stops a second. Wow…..in space, astronauts cannot cry because there is no gravity. Interesting.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.
Cockroaches can live 9 days without their heads before they starve to death.
That’s incredible. But how do you know that they are still alive? It’s just like us, ‘human’ . Although we can declared them as brain dead, yet the body lives on. This goes on to show that mind is indeed separate from our body.
Thank you for the sharing. These interesting facts really gave me a good knowledge, beyond thoughts and extremely unbelievable. What gave me a shock to know our heart stop second in every sneeze. Amazing about cockroaches can live 9 days without their heads before they starve to death, that’s unbelievable and incredible facts that I need to be aware.
Unexpected and extraordinary knowledge that i can share among family and friends . I am happy to encounter the truth of these 20 unbelievable general facts that we should understand and need to know. Hope to have more interesting facts about life, As we learn more about ourselves, the earth and our universe, we will encounter such things that will blow our minds.

Unbelievable facts ……..which I did not know till I read this post except every time you sneeze your heart stops a second and all babies are colour-blind when they are born. I read it from medical journal. Many of those facts are new and first time learning…..to name a few….. the lighter was invented before the match, in space, astronauts cannot cry because there is no gravity and hummingbirds are the only creatures that can fly backwards. Sound unbelievable and amazing.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.
These are really interesting facts. Thank you, Rinpoche for this sharing. Fact that opens up my mind would be the one on the asteroid. The fact on how it takes 63,000 trees to print an average Sunday edition of The New York Times triggers my conscience to care for our environment. The cockroach’s ability to live upto 9 days without its head makes me wonder if the brain is as important as it seems to some living beings, same goes with the fact on ostrich.
Facts checked:
an asteroid was the reason for the extinction of dinosaurs over a period of time, it was not instant. Likely flow on cause was an increase in gravity which explains why other smaller reptiles and amphibians survived;
It is more correct to say Alexander Graham Bell was the first person to patent the invention of the telephone as Italian Antonio Meucci has invented a similar device, In 1871, he filed a caveat (an announcement of an invention) for his design of a talking telegraph.
And it is also suggested that Elisha Gray, a professor at Oberlin College, applied for a caveat of the telephone on the same day Bell applied for his patent of the telephone in 1876.
Learned alot. Thanks for sharing this<3
Wow!! This article is indeed very interesting and educational.Almost all of these 20 facts surprises me.Especially,11 ) The average left-handed person lives 7 years LESS than a right-handed person.
8 ) Cockroaches can live 9 days without their heads before they starve to death. 4 ) Every time you sneeze your heart stops a second.
3 ) The Hawaiian alphabet has only 12 letters.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this amazing knowledge.
Thank you Rinpoche for always sharing so many interesting subject besides dharma teaching. I think it is good to learn and know more on the history as well as general knowledge, so we are aware of our surroundings and how things developed.
Yes Lin Mun, I agree! Actually, the broader our knowledge and the more things we are exposed to, it benefits us and others. Us because if we are exposed to more alternative fields like UFOs, Yeti, etc, our minds are trained to be less narrow and to become more open-minded to consider different possibilities.
It benefits others because when our interests are so wide, we have more ways of connecting to other people and imparting the Dharma to them. In this day and age when people are highly intelligent and have access to so much information, us knowing more and being able to talk about different subjects is another method of convincing them that Dharma is good and appropriate for modern people 🙂
I wonder whether it was more shocking and unbelievable to find this post on Rinpoche’s blog than reading the 20 unbelievable general facts. The element of surprise originates from the same source.
For example, because Rinpoche is a high lama and his blog is well known to be a treasure of dharma knowledge, assumption is formed as to what this blog site should contain.
Assumptions and expectations generally do not serve us well but restrict our mental and spiritual growth.
Relax, chill and have an open mind. You might find the outcome unbelievable LOL.
Dear Rinpoche, my mom was shocked when she heard that babies are colour-blind when they are born. I was shocked too when I first read it. I can understand if astronauts can cry and their tears will flood around because there is no gravity force but I really don’t understand why can’t they cry. And it is quite amazing that they can make a language with only 12 letters.
Wow! I didn’t know that when all babies are born, they are color blind. And an ostrich’s eye is bigger than its brain, this shows us that how small the brain of ostriches really is. But I really don’t understand why left-handed person lives 7 years LESS than a right-handed person. I will try to find more information about it
I found them all very interesting but they are not really that unbelievable. It may be to others but not to me because I am exposed to a lot of unbelievable stuff. Regarding number 19, it is very funny as that song is the most infringed copyrighted song. If people had to pay for each time they sang the song, the world would be broke with WB being the richest thing in the universe.
Almost all of these 20 facts surprises me, I found myself kept ‘wowing’ at the newly found knowledge when I read through them.
I found the lines about Hawaii alphabets and space astronauts funny and that of Business.com unbelievable.
It has been over a year since the publication of these facts, perhaps some of them have changed / been denied? Anyways, this is quite a rather interesting article to read. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this here.
I thought the asteroid-didn’t-kill-the-toads-and-salameanders story quite intriguing… how ironic that the asteroid couldn’t kill them but now they are dying off rapidly due to pollution.. shows that humans are much more destructive than an asteroid!
Those are very interesting facts. There are some I heard of but most I haven’t. Thank you for sharing them Rinpoche.
If you are struck by lightning, wouldn’t the heat cook your skin? I am so lucky to not get hit by lightning.
Cockroaches are the only “zombie” knd of insects as they can live for weeks without food source and it also breaths through its abdomen not its head! 🙂
Interesting facts we would not have known if not shared by Rinpoche.
Thank you!
I never knew how small an ostrich’s brain is – no wonder they like burying their heads under the sand!! haha
Interesting and surprising. Thank you.
Great facts. Very intresting to know
That was great. I found all, very interesting.
