Exciting New Developments at Kechara
On 14 August 2013, Kechara had its historic last Liaisons’ Council meeting. In our drive to constantly improve, Kechara’s Liaisons Council is reorganising our governance structure.
With the blessings of our Spiritual Advisor, H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, the Liaisons Council has agreed that we will set up a new elected body to ensure that Rinpoche’s vision and goals are consistently adhered to for the continuous growth of Kechara. This change was decided in order to take into account increasing accountability and transparency as well as giving Kecharians more opportunities to contribute to our organisation.
As part of this change of structure, the Liaisons Council decided to dissolve. The Liaisons Council then returned our liaisons vows to our Dharma Protector, Lord Setrap. We will announce the news of the election, which will be held every two years, its process and details of the new structure soon.
In the interim until the election, there will be a protem Board of Directors consisting of Datuk May Phng, Henry Ooi, Paul Yap, JP Thong, Dato’ Ruby Khong, Li Kim Phng, Ooi Beng Kooi, Chuah Su Ming and Han Siew Hong, who will oversee the running of Kechara until the new elected Board of Directors takes office.
At the same meeting, the liaisons also agreed that the Pastorship would be on a one-year term and new pastors will be also announced in due course. In the interim, there will be two pastors who are Pastor Lim Han Nee (English) and Pastor Kok Yek Yee (Chinese). Please refer to these three pastors for any spiritual matters in the meantime.

Dear friends,
As you know, Kechara has been run by a dedicated group of liaisons who have worked very closely with me for many years. I am very grateful for their help and always making themselves available to carry out dharma works. This has resulted in the tremendous growth of our organization.
We’ve convened and voted the following important implementations:
1. The name Liaison’s Council will be officially changed immediately to Board of Directors (This is the governing body who take care of the day to day affairs of the secular aspects of Kechara).
2. There is an interim governing body as mentioned above until elections (Will announce election date soon).
3. The Board of Directors will be elected by eligible members of Kechara.
4. The reasons for this change is to allow further accountability, greater transparency and also more Kechara Members to be eligible in order to actively participate in our future direction as well as growth.
5. The Pastorship will be a yearly renewable position within Kechara which must be approved by BOD.
Thanks to the liaisons, we are now at a stage where Kechara is expanding very rapidly. As our liaisons would like us to continue this growth, they have kindly made some changes to our organisation’s structure. This is to ensure Kechara remains dynamic and filled with fresh ideas, whilst still aligned with Kechara’s Dharmic goals.
Again, I thank very much the previous *liaisons (now known as BOD) for always having Kechara’s welfare and future in mind.

This is something very important indeed, I like the new change. It makes Kechara more transparent to others so there will not be unnecessary doubts. I’m looking forward to what the new B.O.D members can do to serve Rinpoche and Kechara, I believe that they will bring a lot of benefit to the Kechara as well as the society.

It is so important to have a democratic Kechara for future expansion it will enable us to bring in other people, views essential for the growth of Kechara. Kechara is still a WIP and a very good one too. Kechara is very unique it has many sections not commonly found in other dharma centers or organisations one of them is KSA ~ Kechara Saraswati ARTS.
Wow this is a really big change! I can’t wait to see the new board of directors and their contributions to kechara. The Liaison Council has done so much for Kechara and its growth to what it is today. I really appreciate all of your dedication, hard work, sacrifice, effort and compassion you have contributed to kechara.

Wow, such a great news for Kechara! Thank you all the liaisons for their past years’ contributions and always working hard. Now with the Board of Directors, I am sure Kechara will grow even more and bigger. Let’s all work togeter!
It is good to see the [ex] Liaison Council and now to be known as Board Of Directors, not resisting change and it was encouraging to see new people stepping up to be counted for election to the Board. Unlike commercial directorships (and BOD’s) the Kechara BOD consists of those who work the hardest and have directly contributed to the growth of the organization. If Kechara has grown so much, it has been Rinpoche’s vision perfectly executed by a team of people who have discharged their responsibilities quietly and professionally and gone way beyond the call of duty. Imagine this, in the last 2 years alone we have seen so much growth – Kechara Care, the Gallery, KMP releasing new books, Kechara Blooms, KO Viva Mall, the New Gompa, acquisition and development of KFR including Manjushri Hill, Enchanted Forest, and Dukkar Apartments, Pastorships, and the exciting things that e-Div are doing which will be unveiled soon, and they the BOD is not done yet!
For sure the the Universities should be studying Kechara LC/BOD as case studies of corporate success.
Listen, Universities got many other options, there are well managed buddhist monastries in Taiwan and Singapore that have been highlighted in world news. Rinpoche knows the well known taiwanese monastries managed by a nun, well respected. why should they come and look for Kechara(maybe as minor research).Singapore Kwan Yin is well known too, even people from US, China, Taiwan and Japan including Malaysia wrote about this temple, very well organised and does alot of donations and charities. Be humble please, there are always a better one before.
I believe as Kecharians we have the right to be proud of our achievements be it big or small. Nevertheless Kechara was founded less than 20 years ago, the taiwanese organisation has been around 50 years.
Is really and important announcement. Really look forward for the good news and more and more dedicated students join this council and Kechara keep growing and benefit a lots of people out there.

Thank you to Rinpoche and the liaisons to have bring Kechara as a spiritual organization to-date at the level of national and internationally known.
In my humble opinion, i will like to propose that the eligble members that is entitled to election can be extended to members who has been contributing and volunteering consistently, or activey involved in Kechara activities. This special invitees list can be agreed or table at the interim BOD for approval.
Rinpoche always think ahead and see the need of change in the organization. I believe this would lead us in a way for us to accommodate a bigger mission, to lead and recruit the young and up coming generations, also to be more open up for others to learn. I trust and believe Rinpoche changing this for the better and bigger purpose of Kechara.

Great to see new plans forming in Kechara and I think that the new plans are good and I hope that all obstacles to the birth of this new plan will be cleared so that everything will run well and smooth.

As Kechara is growing, this changes is at the right time. This system is transparent, it also make the Kecharian to take own responsibility to elect their own leader to lead. So in future, if you are not happy with the committee you elected, sorry to say that you made the choice not to lead but let others to lead you, therefore , if you don’t lead, then you should work with them instead of blaming.
Thank you for the contributions of the previous liaison, with their hardwork and contributions we are now has a very nice place to learn and practicing Dharma. They had done so much for us under the guidance of Rinpoche. Thanks to Rinpoche.
Yupp, this is indeed good news for Kechara. I think that this will help Kechara grow to become a better and more independant Buddhist Centre. And i am actually looking forward to see the results of the votes. I am sure that this was yes, a very smart choice made by the Laison Council. Thank you for sharing this news with us Rinpoche.
I am fortunate to have served as Rinpoche’s liaison all these years. I have witnessed success, opening of new departments, birth of new leaders and the overcoming of various crisis. People will only see the success but few will even come close to understanding how much blood, sweat and tears many of the liaisons have put towards this organization.
I am extremely proud to see new leaders, pastors and future Sangha members are born in this organization. I am happy and proud because beyond all this, I see that the Dharma and our Kechara lineage will perpetuate here in Malaysia and eventually the world beyond. Thinking about this, I feel privileged to be able to contribute and I look forward that more leaders are elected, thus bringing Kechara to greater heights and greater scope of spreading Dharma and benefiting so many along the way.
This is a very interesting and huge announcement. I am extremely excited to what follows! Though the liaisons are now changing hands, there is no denying what they have done and I respect and rejoice for their servitude and devotion!
I cannot wait to see what the future Board of Directors are capable of doing. My hopes are up and awaiting the fresh people! The new leaders, to increase the benefits that Kechara can give others.
It is great to hear the good change in Kechara Organisation for the betterment of Kechara and Buddhism growth in our country and within this region. With growth there will be always changes and I welcome these changes as it will be for the betterment of the organization as a whole. Like Henry, I agree that I will also continue to serve Kechara and Rinpoche’s vision whole heartedly. More details on the election and Directors criteria will announced this week.
As Kechara’s organization is growing larger to benefit others in our work, the new system of the Board of Directors is an open and transparent method to encourage new ideas to promote growth and expansion from those who can and wants to contribute from their own effort as well as the Board towards a single goal.

It is an honoured for me to be part of this historical moment, to witness the change for the better. It is very exciting for all of us as to where this new change will lead Kechara to. For Kechara to grow to where we are now, apart from the guidance we have from our Spiritual Guide – H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, we owe the lot to this group of dedicated, selfless and caring previous Liaisons who sacrifice their personal interest for the welfare of Malaysians, for humanity. Without them, Kechara will not be where it is now.
Personally, for me to repay their kindness, I’m ready to take part in the soon-to-be announced election and urge eligible Kecharians to consider taking part in this very first election! This is one of the very rare life changing opportunity for us to take on to contribute positively toward the growth of Kechara and our society!
Good to have a change on some old goats for fresh ones. Get a newer team for a fresher ideas, more creatives and more friendly with a good human touch, understanding ,considerations and compassion and not living on his own world. Noticed some of rinpoche personal assistants are arrogant, high almighty and snobbish (without naming).
I will continue to serve Rinpoche and the dharma as it is what I want since the beginning regardless as a liaison, a member of the board of directors or as a Kecharian. They are just names but involvement in Kechara, commitment and dedication to dharma are actions as dharma practices.
May Rinpoche continue to steer Kechara to greater heights, benefiting more.

The name “Liaison’s Council” may change but there’s no denying the Liaison’s years of contributions to Kechara and I’m sure they will continue to do so in whatever capacity they find themselves in in the future.
