Exciting New Developments at Kechara

On 14 August 2013, Kechara had its historic last Liaisons’ Council meeting. In our drive to constantly improve, Kechara’s Liaisons Council is reorganising our governance structure.

With the blessings of our Spiritual Advisor, H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, the Liaisons Council has agreed that we will set up a new elected body to ensure that Rinpoche’s vision and goals are consistently adhered to for the continuous growth of Kechara. This change was decided in order to take into account increasing accountability and transparency as well as giving Kecharians more opportunities to contribute to our organisation.

As part of this change of structure, the Liaisons Council decided to dissolve. The Liaisons Council then returned our liaisons vows to our Dharma Protector, Lord Setrap.  We will announce the news of the election, which will be held every two years, its process and details of the new structure soon.

In the interim until the election, there will be a protem Board of Directors consisting of Datuk May Phng, Henry Ooi, Paul Yap, JP Thong, Dato’ Ruby Khong, Li Kim Phng, Ooi Beng Kooi, Chuah Su Ming and Han Siew Hong, who will oversee the running of Kechara until the new elected Board of Directors takes office.

At the same meeting, the liaisons also agreed that the Pastorship would be on a one-year term and new pastors will be also announced in due course. In the interim, there will be two pastors who are Pastor Lim Han Nee (English) and Pastor Kok Yek Yee (Chinese). Please refer to these three pastors for any spiritual matters in the meantime.

Watch this space as we will announce more details soon!

Kechara Board of Directors

(Protem)

********************

Dear friends,

As you know, Kechara has been run by a dedicated group of liaisons who have worked very closely with me for many years. I am very grateful for their help and always making themselves available to carry out dharma works. This has resulted in the tremendous growth of our organization.

We’ve convened and voted the following important implementations:

1. The name Liaison’s Council will be officially changed immediately to Board of Directors (This is the governing body who take care of the day to day affairs of the secular aspects of Kechara).
2. There is an interim governing body as mentioned above until elections (Will announce election date soon).
3. The Board of Directors will be elected by eligible members of Kechara.
4. The reasons for this change is to allow further accountability, greater transparency and also more Kechara Members to be eligible in order to actively participate in our future direction as well as growth.
5. The Pastorship will be a yearly renewable position within Kechara which must be approved by BOD.

Thanks to the liaisons, we are now at a stage where Kechara is expanding very rapidly. As our liaisons would like us to continue this growth, they have kindly made some changes to our organisation’s structure. This is to ensure Kechara remains dynamic and filled with fresh ideas, whilst still aligned with Kechara’s Dharmic goals.

Again, I thank very much the previous *liaisons (now known as BOD) for always having Kechara’s welfare and future in mind.

Tsem Rinpoche

This is something very important indeed, I like the new change. It makes Kechara more transparent to others so there will not be unnecessary doubts. I’m looking forward to what the new B.O.D members can do to serve Rinpoche and Kechara, I believe that they will bring a lot of benefit to the Kechara as well as the society.
    Thank You for sharing Rinpoche.

  2. Wan Wai Meng on Sep 16, 2013 at 2:20 pm

It is so important to have a democratic Kechara for future expansion it will enable us to bring in other people, views essential for the growth of Kechara. Kechara is still a WIP and a very good one too. Kechara is very unique it has many sections not commonly found in other dharma centers or organisations one of them is KSA ~ Kechara Saraswati ARTS.

  3. Cliff on Sep 13, 2013 at 12:07 am

Wow this is a really big change! I can’t wait to see the new board of directors and their contributions to kechara. The Liaison Council has done so much for Kechara and its growth to what it is today. I really appreciate all of your dedication, hard work, sacrifice, effort and compassion you have contributed to kechara.

Everyone would surely be looking forward to the new board of directors to oversee kechara’s growth into the future.

  4. wei theng on Sep 4, 2013 at 10:08 pm

Great move to be more transparent, accountability and more Kecharian are eligible in order to actively participate in Kechara future direction as well as growth. I’m sure this will bring Kechara to expand further & to greater heights and able to benefit more people.

Also not forgetting all the previous liaisons that have bring Kechara to where we are now, thank you very much. Thanks Rinpoche for the all guidance!

  5. Louise Lee on Sep 3, 2013 at 4:53 pm

Are you ready to change for better tomorrow? Please come to register in Kechara House Front desk. It is a very challenge task. We do it from Kechara growing path.

Tomorrow is the last day to register for Board Of Director.

  6. wansan on Aug 31, 2013 at 2:09 pm

Wow, such a great news for Kechara! Thank you all the liaisons for their past years’ contributions and always working hard. Now with the Board of Directors, I am sure Kechara will grow even more and bigger. Let’s all work togeter!

  7. MartinC on Aug 28, 2013 at 10:19 pm

It is good to see the [ex] Liaison Council and now to be known as Board Of Directors, not resisting change and it was encouraging to see new people stepping up to be counted for election to the Board. Unlike commercial directorships (and BOD’s) the Kechara BOD consists of those who work the hardest and have directly contributed to the growth of the organization. If Kechara has grown so much, it has been Rinpoche’s vision perfectly executed by a team of people who have discharged their responsibilities quietly and professionally and gone way beyond the call of duty. Imagine this, in the last 2 years alone we have seen so much growth – Kechara Care, the Gallery, KMP releasing new books, Kechara Blooms, KO Viva Mall, the New Gompa, acquisition and development of KFR including Manjushri Hill, Enchanted Forest, and Dukkar Apartments, Pastorships, and the exciting things that e-Div are doing which will be unveiled soon, and they the BOD is not done yet!

For sure the the Universities should be studying Kechara LC/BOD as case studies of corporate success.

    • t on Aug 29, 2013 at 12:45 pm

Listen, Universities got many other options, there are well managed buddhist monastries in Taiwan and Singapore that have been highlighted in world news. Rinpoche knows the well known taiwanese monastries managed by a nun, well respected. why should they come and look for Kechara(maybe as minor research).Singapore Kwan Yin is well known too, even people from US, China, Taiwan and Japan including Malaysia wrote about this temple, very well organised and does alot of donations and charities. Be humble please, there are always a better one before.

      • Wan Wai Meng on Sep 16, 2013 at 2:28 pm

I believe as Kecharians we have the right to be proud of our achievements be it big or small. Nevertheless Kechara was founded less than 20 years ago, the taiwanese organisation has been around 50 years.

  8. Jayce Goh on Aug 28, 2013 at 4:21 pm

Is really and important announcement. Really look forward for the good news and more and more dedicated students join this council and Kechara keep growing and benefit a lots of people out there.

Thank you for the contributions of the liaisons all the way, with their dedicated efforts and contributions . Here we thanks from heart. Thanks to Rinpoche guidance all this while.

  9. Doreen Teoh on Aug 27, 2013 at 12:02 pm

Thank you to Rinpoche and the liaisons to have bring Kechara as a spiritual organization to-date at the level of national and internationally known.

In my humble opinion, i will like to propose that the eligble members that is entitled to election can be extended to members who has been contributing and volunteering consistently, or activey involved in Kechara activities. This special invitees list can be agreed or table at the interim BOD for approval.

  10. Julia Tan on Aug 26, 2013 at 12:07 am

Rinpoche always think ahead and see the need of change in the organization. I believe this would lead us in a way for us to accommodate a bigger mission, to lead and recruit the young and up coming generations, also to be more open up for others to learn. I trust and believe Rinpoche changing this for the better and bigger purpose of Kechara.

  11. Eric Lee KHJB on Aug 25, 2013 at 11:29 pm

  17. June Kang on Aug 22, 2013 at 10:40 am

As Kechara is growing, this changes is at the right time. This system is transparent, it also make the Kecharian to take own responsibility to elect their own leader to lead. So in future, if you are not happy with the committee you elected, sorry to say that you made the choice not to lead but let others to lead you, therefore , if you don’t lead, then you should work with them instead of blaming.

Thank you for the contributions of the previous liaison, with their hardwork and contributions we are now has a very nice place to learn and practicing Dharma. They had done so much for us under the guidance of Rinpoche. Thanks to Rinpoche.

  18. Julien Roth on Aug 21, 2013 at 11:24 pm

Yupp, this is indeed good news for Kechara. I think that this will help Kechara grow to become a better and more independant Buddhist Centre. And i am actually looking forward to see the results of the votes. I am sure that this was yes, a very smart choice made by the Laison Council. Thank you for sharing this news with us Rinpoche.

  19. David Lai on Aug 21, 2013 at 9:32 pm

I am fortunate to have served as Rinpoche’s liaison all these years. I have witnessed success, opening of new departments, birth of new leaders and the overcoming of various crisis. People will only see the success but few will even come close to understanding how much blood, sweat and tears many of the liaisons have put towards this organization.

I am extremely proud to see new leaders, pastors and future Sangha members are born in this organization. I am happy and proud because beyond all this, I see that the Dharma and our Kechara lineage will perpetuate here in Malaysia and eventually the world beyond. Thinking about this, I feel privileged to be able to contribute and I look forward that more leaders are elected, thus bringing Kechara to greater heights and greater scope of spreading Dharma and benefiting so many along the way.

  20. Sean Wang on Aug 21, 2013 at 4:28 pm

This is a very interesting and huge announcement. I am extremely excited to what follows! Though the liaisons are now changing hands, there is no denying what they have done and I respect and rejoice for their servitude and devotion!

I cannot wait to see what the future Board of Directors are capable of doing. My hopes are up and awaiting the fresh people! The new leaders, to increase the benefits that Kechara can give others.

It is great to hear the good change in Kechara Organisation for the betterment of Kechara and Buddhism growth in our country and within this region. May more and more people receive Buddha’s teachings and Dharma through the continuous growth in Kechara with the pillar supports from Liaisons and Pastors through the guidance from Rinpoche.

  24. Patsy on Aug 20, 2013 at 5:15 pm

I welcome these changes and look forward for more good news for Kechara to grow even bigger. The Liaison Council may change in name but I believed that their dedication and effort to support Rinpoche’s vision will still remain the same.

May Kechara Organisation steer to greater heights in the near future.

So excited…waiting for the coming new changes. To face our ever changing world is to change, for better. Yes Kechara is growing and will grow even bigger in future. Thank you all the liaisons who have poured and keep pouring their love, care and effort into Kechara, and with the blessing of Rinpoche, to make Kechara has today’s achievement. And this is just a starting point for Kechara to grow bigger to benefit more…

  27. Li Kim on Aug 20, 2013 at 2:17 pm

With growth there will be always changes and I welcome these changes as it will be for the betterment of the organization as a whole. Like Henry, I agree that I will also continue to serve Kechara and Rinpoche’s vision whole heartedly. More details on the election and Directors criteria will announced this week.

  28. MayOng on Aug 20, 2013 at 12:58 pm

As Kechara’s organization is growing larger to benefit others in our work, the new system of the Board of Directors is an open and transparent method to encourage new ideas to promote growth and expansion from those who can and wants to contribute from their own effort as well as the Board towards a single goal.

  29. HelenaC on Aug 20, 2013 at 12:39 pm

Wow… Excited! Thank you very much the previous *liaisons (now known as BOD) for always having Kechara’s welfare and future in mind. No matter what title we hold in Kechara, we must work full heartedly to contribute to the organisation.

  30. Irene Lim on Aug 20, 2013 at 12:03 pm

A positive change for Kechara will come! Oh, Yes it will…. Be part of this goodness.

  31. Soon Huat on Aug 20, 2013 at 12:02 pm

Kechara is growing rapidly. We really need more people to help up to ensure the milestones and goals are met. I am sure the Liaisons will continue to help and support the growth of Kechara (may in other form) but I just want to express my tiny personal appreciation for their help to grow of mother center. May Rinpoche continue to steer the Kechara to achieve our final goals and benefit more people in the world (started from Malaysia)

  32. adelinewoon on Aug 20, 2013 at 10:25 am

It is an honoured for me to be part of this historical moment, to witness the change for the better. It is very exciting for all of us as to where this new change will lead Kechara to. For Kechara to grow to where we are now, apart from the guidance we have from our Spiritual Guide – H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, we owe the lot to this group of dedicated, selfless and caring previous Liaisons who sacrifice their personal interest for the welfare of Malaysians, for humanity. Without them, Kechara will not be where it is now.

Personally, for me to repay their kindness, I’m ready to take part in the soon-to-be announced election and urge eligible Kecharians to consider taking part in this very first election! This is one of the very rare life changing opportunity for us to take on to contribute positively toward the growth of Kechara and our society!

  33. t on Aug 20, 2013 at 9:56 am

Good to have a change on some old goats for fresh ones. Get a newer team for a fresher ideas, more creatives and more friendly with a good human touch, understanding ,considerations and compassion and not living on his own world. Noticed some of rinpoche personal assistants are arrogant, high almighty and snobbish (without naming).

  34. henry ooi on Aug 20, 2013 at 9:31 am

I will continue to serve Rinpoche and the dharma as it is what I want since the beginning regardless as a liaison, a member of the board of directors or as a Kecharian. They are just names but involvement in Kechara, commitment and dedication to dharma are actions as dharma practices.
May Rinpoche continue to steer Kechara to greater heights, benefiting more.

  35. Sean Pang on Aug 20, 2013 at 5:35 am

This is indeed a big announcement! I’m curious about the next steps.

The name “Liaison’s Council” may change but there’s no denying the Liaison’s years of contributions to Kechara and I’m sure they will continue to do so in whatever capacity they find themselves in in the future.

Thank you all, Kechara Liaison (now BOD) for your dedication, effort, leadership, inspiration, sacrifice and compassion!

    Sean Pang

This article is truly inspiring. Ms Chen contributed most of her time working, her passion was a strong desire that she was able to do amazing things. It is indeed a rare sight to see a person who is able to be selfless at such a deep level in many ways. I do agree that we definitely need more Ms Chens in this world to inspire and to help others.

Ngawang Wangyal known to many as Geshe Wangyal and the first American lama introducing Tibetan Buddhism to the West. He was a Buddhist lama and scholar of Kalmyk origin born in Russia. He travelled through Russia to Tibet and spent the next 20 years traveling throughout Asia, learning English and translating . It was during the Chinese invasion he escaped to India and later went to American. Despite the many challenges he faced , he built a monastery been the first temple in the Western hemisphere, sponsored Tibetan monk scholars to assist him in teachings. That’s how Tibetan Buddhism spread in the west. His long list of accomplishments would include pioneering efforts in establishing Tibetan Buddhism’s intellectual bona fides in American academia. During the last several years of his life he worked tirelessly on his final book.
Thank you Rinpoche for this inspiring untold story of how Tibetan Buddhism first came to America through one great Lama.

Kalarupa is one a wrathful emanation of Wisdom Buddha Manjushri, manifesting as a Dharma Protector. Kalarupa displaying as the direct spiritual protector force for all ugliness arising from the true inner spiritual obstacles of fear, hatred, pride and jealousy . As an emanation of Manjushri, Kalarupa’s practice ultimately helps us to destroy ignorance and develop wisdom to overcome our anger and suffering. Interesting read of the story how Kalarupa arose as a Protector. Beautiful pictures of Kalarupa in many forms.

In Buddhism, offerings are made to the Triple Gem, giving rise to contemplative gratitude and inspiration. One such offerings such as foods. flowers, and so forth. Reading this post gives us a more understanding of some do’s and don’ts regarding food offerings. Offering food is a meritorious act that also reminds us not to be greedy or selfish.
GREAT guidance , precious teachings and listening from those videos tell us more. All about making offerings, the importance of our motivation and the results of making offerings to the Three Jewels

nteresting story of Namkar Barzin who is a worldly Dharma Protector in their own right after being subdued by Domo Geshe Rinpoche. And is part of Dorje Shugden’s entourage whose history goes back to about 90 years ago. Namkar Barzin is the second minister to Dorje Shugden after Kache Marpo. Well known for having the power to protect buildings, institutions, monasteries, and so forth . And also promotes peace, harmony, prosperity and growth as such as powerful in protecting Dharma.
Interesting read story of how Namkar Barzin became a Minister in the entourage of Lord Dorje Shugden. Rinpoche did composed a prayers to Namkar Barzin feeling strongly connected to him and this will benefit people spiritually.

Astrology is a big influence on our life as it determine certain traits of character that influence our actions. Astrology does have some things in common with religions, such as seeking to understand the greater nature of the universe.

Well! Tibetan Buddhism astrology goes much further, seeing deep into our soul and the karma you are working through in this life time, and far into the future even to the end of your life’s path.

Thank you for the interesting sharing and happy to discover the Magical Square system of Tibetan astrology .

The Chinese concept of yin and yang describes nature in daulities with two opposite, complementary, and interdependent forces. In simple words, two halves balancing together that make a whole. Yin and yang always flows and changes with time. Examining and understanding these patterns in ourselves and around us brings more balance in life. Examining and understanding these patterns in ourselves and around us brings more balance in life. All things carry the yin while embrace the yang. Neutralising energy brings them into harmony. Accepting true constants in life, change and death facts can release us from as much suffering and bring freedom in life. We must remember to let go of the past, and allow life to take its course. To me simplicity, patience, compassion are our greatest treasures. Great quotes.
    Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.

We build up understanding through our experience in the world. The process of reflection helps us to develop our understanding more deeply . We then could share our intuitive knowledge with others. It provides the opportunity to step back and take a look at what our work means to us. Self-reflection focus our mind and energy makes us a better decision maker.
Thank you Rinpoche for this meaningful thought

King Trisong Detsen (740-798) was the second of the Three Dharma Kings of Tibet He played a pivotal role in the introduction of Buddhism to Tibet and the establishment of the Nyingma. He believed to be an emanation of the bodhisattva Manjushri, that built Samye Monastery the first monastery . King Trisong Detsen aimed to revitalize Tibetan Buddhism so much so arranged a debate known as the Council of Lhasa. The Council of Lhasa, at Samye, was a famous debate, between the Chinese Buddhist monk Moheyan and the Indian Buddhist master Kamalashila. It is also known as the Great Debate, this debate lasted for 2 years. An interesting story behind this long and rancorous debate. The Council of Lhasa is an important event in Tibetan history and shaped the practice of Buddhism in Tibet up until today.
Thank You Rinpoche and Pastor Antoinette Kass for this sharing.

Coming across this post of suspended coffees truly had me wonder if in Malaysia will come up with this compassionate concept. A suspended coffee is a great way to pay forward for a coffee meant for someone else who cannot afford a warm beverage. Kindness can come in many forms including the purchase of a suspended coffee,
a very good concept indeed. This is a tradition that comes from Naples, Italy, dated in the 20th century. Buying a cup of coffee for a stranger , who needed it especially during cold nights. A simple act of kindness can change someone’s life. To date, many countries in US and Europe have started these compassion concept and had in fact inspired more. Hopefully one day this will happen in Malaysia .
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

n the remote mountain highlands of eastern Tibet, there exists a unique lineage of female spiritual practitioners at Gebchak Gonpa. A nunnery of more than 350 from all the Tibetan schools of Buddhism came to study and practice Dharma, upholding rigorous meditation and yoga practices. Gebchak’s yogini nuns are famed for their accomplishments in profound yogas and meditation. These women have devoted their entire lives to practicing the Dharma. Interesting read of those Gebchak’s yogini nuns lives, as stated in the post.
Sadly, during the cultural revolution the Gebchak Gonpa was destroyed and the remaining nuns were dispersed. Yet many of them continue preserving their unique female yogic tradition who had survived the Cultural Revolution. Today, new generations of nuns and lamas are preserving Gebchak’s practice lineage rebuilt and re-established Gebchak Gonpa, despite extreme physical hardships.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Nor matter who you are regardless of race and faith Rinpoche will be too willingly to help. That’s Rinpoche’s nature a Bodhisatva . Rinpoche had made a way from Us to India and then Malaysia just to spread Dharma teachings and nothing else. The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer

#kecharafoodbank: In collaboration with Good Shepherd Services (GSS) based in Ipoh, we travelled to Buntong with food rations for 33 families. Some of the food items given include rice, noodles, cooking oil and biscuits; in total, we gave 726kg of food to these beneficiaries from the underprivileged class. We are glad to have been able to contribute, especially to families with children and in poor living conditions. We wish to thank GSS for alerting us about those in need, and we look forward to extending more support in the future together with this not-for-profit organization doing good work. - Vivian @ Kechara Soup Kitchen

In an urgent effort to provide food and necessities to the poverty-stricken in Bentong and rural areas of Pahang, we are launching Food Bank Bentong. With your support, Food Bank Bentong would be able to feed 500 families totaling 2,300 people on a regular basis, giving them a chance to enjoy a basic sense of security we consider a human right. - Vivian @ Kechara Soup Kitchen

The global pandemic hasn't been easy for all of us. Some find it diffucult to find a job to support the family. Despite that, we are still delivering basic food pack to our recipients nationwide. Thank you to our volunteers, donors, and sponsors. Without your support, we would be unable to reach out to many families. Vivian @ Kechara Soup Kitchen

Thanks to the effort of our outstation team, we were able to mobilise food provisions to 600 families living in Kelantan, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor during the Raya period with each of these families receiving RM200 worth of provisions. Adding onto the current 368 families in Klang Valley, a total of 968 families were benefitted from this. Special thanks to the sponsors who have contributed especially Hong Leong Foundation and partially from Tesco Malaysia (where we also ordered the provisions from). ~ Vivian @ Kechara Soup Kitchen

More photos taken from our "Hari Raya Hampers" distribution this week. Making sure everyone of our clients have something to be cheerful about. Apart from food, daily used items such as hygiene products, kitchen utensils, assorted fabric items, stationary items and toys were also included into our hamper bags making it extra heavier this month! Food items alone were about 35kg per family! Taking this opportunity to wish everyone of our Muslim volunteers, friends, supporters and clients a Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Maaf Zahir Batin. No doubt this year's celebration will be very different but appreciate everyone is safe and protected from the pandemic. We are in this together and let's work to fight this pandemic together! Thanking all sponsors and donors for the generous support enabling us to continue serve the needy with food, love and care.
