55ft Snake

Mar 6, 2011 | Views: 1,981

Below is a photograph of a 55ft (16.2 meter) snake found in China! So far, this is the only article about this incident that is available online. There aren’t many people who reported the story..However, a man died from shock upon seeing the snake…

Do take a read. Imagine seeing a snake the length of 8 six-feet tall men stacked one on top of the other!

Tsem Rinpoche

This photograph purporting to show a 55ft snake found in a forest in China has become an internet sensation. It was originally posted in a thread on the website of the People’s Daily, the official Communist Party newspaper in China.

The thread claimed the snake was one of two enormous boas found by workers clearing forest for a new road outside Guping city, Jiangxi province. They apparently woke up the sleeping snakes during attempts to bulldoze a huge mound of earth.

“On the third dig, the operator found there was blood amongst the soil, and with a further dig, a dying snake appeared,” said the post.

“By the time the workers came back, the wounded boa had died, while the other snake had disappeared. The bulldozer operator was so sick that he couldn’t even stand up.”

The post claimed that the digger driver was so traumatised that he suffered a heart attack on his way to hospital and later died.

The dead snake was 55ft (16.7m) long, weighed 300kg and was estimated to be 140 years old, according to the post.

When I was a child, my dad used to tell me folklores from China about giant snakes living beyond hundred years old. And this news just proved it! The second part of the folklores was always about how the long-lived snake turn into human through “spiritual” practice and sometimes they lived among human. I will be thrilled if there is news or report on the transformation of snake into human! Thank you for this interesting sharing.

Wow ….amazing such a big snake been found in China.Looks like the bigest snake ever found in a forest in China which has become an internet sensation. However local government officials said the story and photograph are almost certainly a hoax as giant boas are not native to the area.Whether it was true or not ,it has claimed 2 lives. The story’s too unlikely to be false.I think that snake might be the real. I have doubts about the other partner. Well our world remains mysterious and there are other creatures out there which we do not know.
    Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.

  3. Lin Mun on Jun 20, 2017 at 10:01 pm

This would be the biggest snake I have seen so far and it is about 140 years old. I hope both the snake and the worker have good rebirth. It is unfortunate that the clearing of land claimed 2 life.

  4. Vivian Ong on May 29, 2017 at 12:34 am

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article. I was shocked looking at the picture of the snake. This is the first time in my life hearing about a 55ft snake. This place must be some deep forest. I am also surprise that the snake weighs 300kg and is 140 years of age. I pray for the digger driver for a good and swift rebirth.

    With folded palms,

There are a lot more of these creatures living among us I believe, sometimes what we don’t see doesn’t mean its not there, our earth is full of mysterious creatures. Its sad that they killed the snake, now if the other one dies then these wonderful creatures will become extinct.

  6. Edward Ooi on Dec 25, 2013 at 12:40 pm

Dear Rinpoche, if I am one of the worker who found the snake, I would have died. Just seeing a snake in that size would bring me nightmares but I still want to see the snake with my own eyes even though the snake have its bone left. I think the government place the body of the snake in the museum.

  7. Sean Wang on Feb 15, 2013 at 1:36 am

This story is already proven to be a hoax. There is no such snake. In fact, a lot of sources say that the snake was found in Malaysia. Another thing to note is that the snake shown in the picture is only intended to mislead viewers into thinking that the snake is huge in comparison to the cab behind but the snake is actually regular sized if you take into account the size of the bucket.

(Proof of it being a hoax: http://www.hoaxorfact.com/Science/55-feet-snake-found-in-forest-of-malaysia.html )

  8. Julien Roth on Jan 20, 2013 at 8:25 pm

Oh my god, this snake is long. Its such a shame that it died because it was wounded. That sounded so painful. It had to die a long and painful death. I wonder how the snake ended up being wounded. Maybe it was because the digger had dug into its home. Or maybe its because it had already been injured before. I wish i knew. Thank you for sharing this interesting Post with us Rinpoche.

  9. beatrix ooi on Dec 16, 2012 at 12:24 am

It’s so sad that the snake died. After spending 140 years on earth, and he just died. It’s really a big snake, I’ve never seen such a huge snake before. I learnt that a lot of funny thing happens in China. I think it’s because of the large amount of space the country has. There must be more interesting things in China awaiting to be explored…
    Thank You for sharing Rinpoche.
    Love, beatrix.

  10. edward ooi on Dec 15, 2012 at 3:38 am

This snake is so big, its 55ft (16.2 meters) 11 times of my height. Wow this is so amazing, normal snakes will live up to mostly 60 years and this special snake not only live up to 140 years and it also broke the longest snake record too. This prove that nothing is impossible (except human flying). Thank you for reading

  11. sarahyap on Feb 23, 2012 at 2:03 am

Two lives lost all because of the exploitation of nature…

It’s probably a new subspecies of Boa that has been undiscovered until now. I hope they will not continue destroying the forest coz it’s probably the only habitat that this species could survive in…

But yeah… it is amazing. I thought a snake as huge as this would only appear in movies… fiction and imagined up by people. I guess, the plane of existance is really vast, and whatever that our minds are capable of imagining or creating is already in existance somewhere.

  12. Jean Ai on Sep 18, 2011 at 4:50 am

Just goes to show you there is so much more of this world that is left unexplored. Even phenomena we can see, study and understand like snakes can surprise us over and over again…so what about the phenomena that we don’t understand? And phenomena we cannot see? Dare we be arrogant enough to dismiss phenomena we cannot currently explain, like UFOs and cryptids and other paranormal activity, simply because we cannot explain it?

  13. Sean Wang on Mar 8, 2011 at 6:55 pm

This snake is really quite amazing. Both its length and age are unmatchable by other snake. I guess that the world is not fully discovered yet. I noticed that most funny or weird stuff comes from either Japan or China. Maybe it is a body of a spirit in the woods. Just wonderin’. I wonder where the other snake went. Maybe it went to tell every other snake about its friend’s death.

  14. David Lai on Mar 7, 2011 at 3:05 am

This snake is most unusually long! For some reason, we get the most unusual natural features in China. Its vastness in terms of breadth and covering of various topographical and ecologically environments may be a reason why there is such a diverse amount of natural features. From the spectacular limestone mountains to the tropical forests, there is really a lot in between. This unusually lengthy snake is just one of them.

This unusually long snake could also be a naga! One of the animal spirits that inhabit greater or smaller bodies of water. They usually appear as large snakes or frogs in nature and have unusual abilities to control sickness and the weather. They are are highly intelligent like a humans and each have their own characters that shaped by the hundreds and thousands of years of their lifespan. They particularly partial to Buddhas and in particularly Chenrezig or Kuan Yin.

  15. joey wong on Mar 6, 2011 at 10:26 pm

oh i forgot to add that these class of beings are often regarded as negative and are classified as spirits even though they possess an actual body as what they have is not natural. They are said to develop incredible supernatural powers such as the ability to take on a human form, fly, clairvoyance etc. In some cases, they take over the role as the land deity as they are the most powerful spirit in the area…which may be what these 2 snakes in the article may be…

im just too fascinated and somewhat excited of the possibility of them..hehe

  16. joey wong on Mar 6, 2011 at 10:15 pm

This is interesting! 140 years! in Chinese paranormal belief, any animal that has lived for more than 100 years will become a spirit/fairy of its kind. The Chinese word for this class of beings is jing — essence as it is believed that such animals obtain abnormal longevity due to absorbing the vital energy of other beings, plants, the sun and moon, environment, and also from humans.

Legend has it that every 100 years, lighting from heaven will attempt to strike them and if they survive, they become older, wiser and more powerful. Some eventually graduate to become gods, while others become extremely powerful demons, consuming lesser spirits and even humans.

They’re prominently featured in Journey to the West, Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio, and various other stories about Chinese mythology.

From the looks of it, this snake might have been one of those…killed after 140 years of practice…but to actually witness an animal who outlives most of its kind by a mile made me realize that the legend may have some truth to it. Maybe this snake has already developed supernatural powers…but made a miscalculation and paid for it with its life..

  17. Sandy on Mar 6, 2011 at 8:43 pm

    Dear Rinpoche,

It took me a minute to shake myself from glaring at the snake with my mouth open to be able to write!

I remember when I was at school, a friend of mine showed me his pet garden snake when I visited him. It couldn’t have been any longer than 30cm and I made up my mind then not to visit his house again…

I can understand why the driver was in such shock. It’s awesome enough to see this snake in a photograph, thousands of miles away from where it was taken…I can’t imagine what it must’ve been like to actually be up close and personal with the snake.

Recently, a friend sent me a video on forest monks with the message, “This looks so peaceful – maybe you’ll end up like one of these monks!” I replied: “I very much doubt it – not with all those spiders, snakes and other insects roaming around!!”

So yes, if even small, harmless spiders in the UK freak me out (I never kill them though – I just let them have the shower and come back LONG after they’ve finished haha), there’s no way I would have remained composed at the sight of the massive snake.

I’m sure my heartbeat has risen just from writing this comment…

    Kind regards,
    Sandy

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing with us the mysterious part on Buddhism. I didn’t know divination is also practised in Buddhism, I have always thought divination is only practised by non-Buddhist. This shows how compassionate Buddha is, Buddha will use different ways to help people.

Since most of us don’t have the karma or merit to connect with Buddha directly, divination is the best way to seek advice from an enlightened being. Taking refuge and asking for advice from an enlightened being is safe because Buddha is omniscient and Buddha will give us guidance that will truly benefit us.

    Dromton Gyelwa Jungne

Dromtonpa has come down in history as both an enforcer of Second Propagation ethical standards and a holder of Atisa’s tantric lineage. According to the Blue Annals, Dromton was charged with expelling tantric practitioners from Atisa’s audience, this despite the fact that at Samye Chimpu (bsam yas ‘chims phu) Atisa gave Dromton initiation into tantric systems, including the Doha tradition of Bengal. The Blue Annals credits him with revising the translations of both sutra and tantras, including the Astasahastrika Prajnaparamita, and the Jnanasiddhi Tantra.

The Fifth Dalai Lama, Ngawang Lobzang Gyatso

In 1622 he was identified as the rebirth of the Fourth Dalai Lama, Yonten Gyatso (ta la’i bla ma 04, yon tan rgya mtsho, 1589-1616) by Lobzang Chokyi Gyeltsen (blo bzang chos kyi rgyal mtshan, 1570-1662), who had been the tutor to the Fourth Dalai Lama. Lobzang Chokyi Gyeltsen gave him the name Lobzang Gyatso (blo bzang rgya mtsho) and enthroned him at Drepung Monastery (’bras spungs dgon). Much later the Fifth Dalai Lama gave Lobzang Chokyi Gyeltsen the title of Panchen Lama.

Thank you for the sharing, I do agree in the article say man are responsible for everything in their life. In simply way man are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Only man use the reason and conscience with which they are endowed to act with humanity toward human, animal and planet.

I truly agree with this article. Every single action that man has to do and done has to connect to one another for perfection in this world.

Thank you, Rinpoche for telling us this story for us to learn from it. Rinpoche gives a lot of advice and instructions to many people and students to help them. However, no all of the recipient of Rinpoche’s kindness will be willing to go all the way with Rinpoche’s advice and instructions even though it is for our own good. Some will stick all the way but some will stop halfway due to their laziness and fears due to the lack of faith in Rinpoche.

Rinpoche will not give any advice that will harm us. Sometimes, the instructions might seem to be harming us or unreasonable, but we have to have faith in Rinpoche that eventually it will be beneficial for us in the long run.

It is very good to know about the origin and the story of the Buddhist deity. The story of Methar shows us how the Tibetan leadership has been operating since the older time, how powerful highly attained lamas are and how an evil spirit can be subdued to do good to help others.

Power and money are what the Tibetan leadership is interested in. They will make false accusations on someone to take over someone’s wealth and power, like in the case of Demo Rinpoche and Methar. Methar turned into an angry spirit after he was killed. However, due to the power of Serkong Rinpoche and his deep Dharma imprint, Methar was subdued and agreed to give his service to Kache Marpo.

Kyabje Zong Rinpoche: Birth, Death & Bardo

Birth, death and bardo: what are these three things? How do people die? We have to understand what we mean by birth, death and bardo in general. We must know how the bardo is entered. We die, go into bardo, take birth, again die going yet again into bardo. There is an unending cycle of the three; no end to it at all. It is useful to develop aversion to Samsara (or Cyclic Existence) and very good for practice to know this.

People often relate witchcraft to evil practice. However, in this modern time, no one is penalised for practising witchcraft. It is not a main stream religious practice and people can practise it freely.

Therefore, it is very ridiculous for the Tibetan leadership to penalise Dorje Shugden practitioners because of their faith. Dorje Shugden practice started about 300-400 years ago and it has never been a threat to national security, there is no reason it should be banned. May the ban be lifted soon and no more discrimination against Dorje Shugden practitioners.

    The Rain Stopper

A few years ago, I think in 2005, His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche and a few of us went to Kathmandu, Nepal to buy Buddha statues for our outlets in Malaysia, it was around July and it was a rainy season in Nepal, so it rained almost daily during the daytime and it made the shopping trip somewhat troublesome, because the statue shops in Nepal are mostly in Boudanath and it was not a covered shopping mall, you have to go from shop to shop in the rain. We were staying in Hyatt Regency Kathmandu then and it was raining quite heavily as we were waiting at the lobby for the taxis to bring us to Boudanath, Rinpoche commented that it was another tiresome rainy day, and he said to us “You guys wait here, I am going to talk to my friends”, then Rinpoche left the seat, walked towards the hotel entrance, and start staring at the gloomy sky while mumbling something. The few of us who looked at each other, and all turned to stared at Rinpoche, this lasted for about 5 minutes, then Rinpoche walked back to us and said “It’s ok now, I just talked to them and they are OK with it, we can leave soon.” True enough, in about 5 minutes, the downpour turned into drizzle, and we hopped into the taxis, by the time the taxis were speeding along the bustling streets of Kathmandu, the rain stopped completely.

It is extremely worrying to know that parts of America such as Texas and Florida are experiencing the impact of powerful hurricanes. The horrendous natural disasters have destroyed thousands of homes, businesses, offices and facilities in these areas. Sadly however, during such disasters, animals are often the first ones to be left behind, and saving the life of a human takes precedence over the life of an animal. The same thing happened during the recent Hurricane Harvey in Florida. But this time around, what was most disturbing was the fact that animals were left behind to die during the disaster.

The helpless animals, such as dogs in this case, have had to suffer immensely during the storms. As can be seen in the article, there is an uproar regarding dogs being tied up during the hurricanes which made it impossible for them to escape. In fact, the authorities may have encouraged people to leave their pets behind in some areas, but they should not have been tied up and left to suffer from the strong winds and rain. No one wants to be put in such a position, and neither do animals.

The mere mention of the Lizard Man conjures creepy images of mutant-like humanoid reptilians. Interestingly, despite possible disapproval from the grammar police, the term “Lizard Man” is used interchangeably to refer to a broad spectrum of bipedal hominid-like reptilian creatures (sometimes also referred to as “Homo-subterreptus) instead of just one specific cryptid. Thus, reported sightings of Lizard Man vary from scaly humans to large bipedal lizards, small dinosaurs and everything else in-between.

It is no surprise that many theories have been put forward in an attempt to crystallise the undefined nature and origin of the Lizard Man. Essentially, there are two leading theories – one based on evolution and the other on extra-terrestrials.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.

    2 yearss ago
What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
