Kechara’s first registration of marriage!
It was a beautiful day on 17 November 2012 where Kechara House held its inaugural Registration of Marriage (ROM). For many years now, I have envisioned Kechara House to provide all sorts of services for the public, especially since now we have a group of dedicated Pastors. Yes, Kechara has an official license from our government to register marriages.
The beautiful couple, Mr Edison and Miss Charmaine, are the first to hold their marriage registration at Kechara! They were introduced to Kechara by Phillis Chin, a staff of Kechara Discovery. They immediately thought that it was a great idea to be wed in the gompa (temple), when they were told that Kechara is a legal place to be married. No other environment can be better than getting married in a spiritual place with the blessings of all the Buddhas…
I was told that the couple were very happy and excited during the registration. They were impressed with the smooth flow of events and especially loved the decoration of the ROM room and the bridal’s hand bouquet prepared by Kechara Blooms. Before the start of registration led by Pastor Chia, who is Kechara House’s official registrar, the bride Miss Charmaine Chan and groom Mr Edison Low were ushered up to the main prayer hall to make both a khata and pearl offerings to the Buddhas. They also made three prostrations to the Guru’s throne which represents the three jewels (Guru, Buddha and Sangha).
A total of 18 family members and friends of the couple attended the beautiful ceremony. At 11.30am, they were ushered into the ROM room where Pastor Chia conducted the ceremony. Pastor Chia greeted the family, and also kindly gave a short Dharma sharing. He then read out the Solemnisation of Marriage, after which the couple signed their Marriage Certificate. Pastor Chia then pronounced them man and wife as the couple exchanged wedding rings! They then proceeded to the main prayer hall have their photographs taken in front of Lama Tsongkhapa. How beautiful…
I congratulate Liaison Paul Yap, who heads Kechara House, Pastors, staff and volunteers of Kechara House for the hard work and dedication you put towards the expansion of Kechara House always. I am happy through these activities and events, more people are connected to the Dharma.
I also wish the beautiful couple a very happy and blessed marriage…

Aww this is so beautiful, I too wish for Mr Edison and Miss Charmaine a very blessed and happy marriage. I’m so glad everything went smoothly and most importantly the couple enjoyed their wedding in Kechara. Such a memorial moment for both couple and kechara for holding its first wedding ceremony. Also a great job to kechara blooms for assisting in the decorations. 🙂
I am just so happy that people are having their weddings at Kechara House. It is just so meaningful that this beautiful couple is having their wedding at KH. It is just so meaningful to have your vows taken in front of the Buddhas, and getting the blessing from the Buddhas.
Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your articles?
I mean, what you say is valuable and all. But think of if you added
some great visuals or videos to give your posts more, “pop”!
Your content is excellent but with images and videos, this blog
could definitely be one of the most beneficial in its niche.
Fantastic blog!
It is wonderful that Kechara is able to provide more and not merely just a temple for visitors to pray and burn incense. That said, there is nothing wrong with this but the fact that we strive beyond the norm in itself is an indication that Kechara goes beyond the spiritual and actually addresses the social and community needs.
The pastorship program whereby lay practitioners can share and impart the Dharma is a first for a Dharma centre… and now we have the licence to even officially wed couples is wonderful.
If we think outside the box with the motivation to help others it can never be wrong!
okay, despite all my constant cynical railings against the institution of marriage, I must confess that deep inside I am a hopeless romantic and it does make me very happy to see news like this. I think that if we were to engage in a relationship and a marriage, let it at least be a positive, uplifting one (and I say this because I have seen way too much sadness in marriage, people destroying each other and creating more harm than love when they are together). I think it’s helpful to think, as we go into a relationship, that instead of the relationship enhancing our attachments and grasping, may the partnership double the positive effects we can have on the world as we work together as a couple.
There’s another beautiful post that Rinpoche has written about and for couples (especially those in the Dharma). see here! http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/inspiration-worthy-words/for-couples.html
I’m glad that Kechara is offering this service to couples now, for it will be one of those rare places where the newly wedded couple will be able to do something completely positive as their very first act as a married couple – make an offering to the Three Jewels, fold their hands at the feet of the Buddhas and start their life together with merit and positivity.
Kechara House has truly come of age by being able to handle marriages. I am not an expert on marriage procedures but its incredible that KH is able to offer marriage blessing and the formal registration. It is nice to have such things as Buddhism doesn’t project an image that welcomes marriage with its emphasis on monastic way of life.
However, time has changed and Buddhism is flexible on such matters plus the fact that there are many lay lamas who are married and have achieved great spiritual heights in their practice despite being married. A notable example today is Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche. Whatever it is, marriages in the Buddhist sense can only work if both partners encourage each other to be better and more spiritual. That’s a better blessing that any ritual that be done for the marriage to work out.
I’m glad that Kechara is providing marriage services for Buddhist couples. Getting married is indeed a huge step in a relationship. It takes the relationship to a whole new level on trust, love, and care.
It is very auspicious for a couple to begin their lives together in a temple. Why? Because Dharma is to bring people together, not to split people apart from each other. A beneficial relationship will bring much spiritual fulfillment in life. After all, if we truly cared about our partners, providing merely samsaric necessities is never sufficient to make one’s life fulfilling.
I hope more people will come to know about Kechara’s Marriage registration services for them to connect with the Three Jewels on this important day in their lives. Some people feel that getting married is starting a whole new life again, and it will be more meaningful when it starts with Dharma.
Congratulations to both Mr Edison and Miss Charmaine. Making offerings to the Three Jewels is such a beautiful and meritorious way to commemorate one’s wedding day. It is also great that our Malaysian government has endorsed Kechara House and its pastors as an approved registrar of marriage.

Congratulations to Edison and Charmaine. May the couples live happily together and receive blessings from the Three Jewels. It is a wonderful news, good to know that Kechara House now provide service of Registration of Marriage (ROM).
wow…so nice to have registration in Gompa..wishing the new couple & their family member can receive Lama Tsongkhapa blessing and a good start on their new journey…
This yet another wonderful development in Kechara House. Rinpoche not only envisaged having Pastors to teach the Dharma and provide Dharma-based counsel to people (which lead to the training and eventual ordination of the first Buddhist Pastors), Rinpoche also thought of a Buddhist baptism for babies and for Kechara to be licensed as Registrar Of Marriage and its great to see all this taking place now. Not only is it a blessing for couples to exchange marital vows before the Three Jewels in a stunning gompa, Kechara is so totally capable of providing the couple the full package of services from flowers, gifts and also hosting wedding events at its now famous Kechara Oasis.
I am very happy for Pastor Chia and it is quite funny because a few days after the event, I spoke to Pastor and he said that he was probably more nervous than the couple put together. Let’s now wait for the couple to return to Kechara for their first baby’s baptism.
Congratulations to the couple, Edison and Charmaine and also to Pastor Chia and Kechara.
it is good to have this license so we can bring more happiness to more people. congratulations to the married couple. 😀
Congrats to Kechara House for hosting this first marriage registration successfully!! Thank you Paul Yap for leading Kechara House, and Pastor Chia for carrying out the duty of Assistant Marriage Registrar diligently 🙂 I too heard the couple is very happy with everything.
I hope Kechara House will have more marriage registrations in near future. This will help spread the name of Kechara and also collect the much needed funds for the growth of Kechara, so that many more people (and other beings) can be benefited.
Congratulations Mr Edison and Ms Charmaine! May the both of you be happy and blessed by the 3 Jewels always! Indeed a wonderful and memorable day for both you and Kechara House for being the first couple to be married.
17/11/12 是一个热闹和开心的星期六,因为是克切拉佛教中心首次的婚姻注册仪式,恭喜恭喜Mr Edison和Ms Charmaine!
很开心看到他们做供养给宗喀巴,金甲衣和金刚瑜伽母,可以和众佛有一个联系是何等的有幸。祈愿这对新人相守偕老!
很感恩成为克切拉一份子为大众服务结缘 :)
Congratulations on a happy occasion to Edison and Miss Charmaine. Hope your wedding at Kechara House will be a good memory. For Kechara House, having the first marriage registration is another important milestone in the history of Kechara. Well done!
Finally!! What better way to start a marriage than by solemnising it in a beautiful and holy temple, and to make offerings to the Three Jewels? A very auspicious start. It is wonderful that the Kechara House team has made Rinpoche vision a reality, and are now able to offer this service to the general public.
It is also great that our Malaysian government has endorsed Kechara House and its pastors as an approved registrar of marriage. Pastor Chia, you’ll be quite busy from now on!
Congratulations Charmaine and Edison. Wish you a journey ahead full of happiness together.
You are the lucky couple to be the first to have your marriage solemnised at Kechara.
Edison and Charmaine have so much merits to be able to have their marriage solemnized in Kechara House. Making offerings to the Three Jewels is such a beautiful and meritorious way to commemorate one’s wedding day. Congratulations and wish you a happy and blissful life together!
Congrats to Edison and Charmaine! May the both of live happily together and always protected by the 3 Jewels. KECHARA not only provides a place for people to pray, Kechara provides a place for couples to register as well! Very nice! 😉

It was a great start for Kechara House to host the first ROM service with so many happy faces. Congrates to Charmaine and Edison for their new journey. Pastor Chia did a great job too 🙂
It is truly so nice to have marriage registration made available by Kechara to the public. Beside having the vows sealed there, couples receive blessings from the Three Jewels and are linked to the Dharma.
Beautiful.
Congratulations to both Mr Edison and Miss Charmaine who chose to have their marriage solemnized in KECHARA HOUSE. I can see they are beaming in happiness. And Yes! You can have your marriage registered officially in KH by an Assistant Registrar, Pastor Chia. For further info. do contact the KH Front Desk.
Do consider having your marriage registered for 12 Dec. 2012 – because its a Memorable Day of the year to get married.
The couple were so happy with their decision to register at Kechara House, most importantly, the first couple to register. Charmaine kept on thanking the team at KH for a wonderful and memorable day. The team is especially happy and honour to be able to provide such wonderful service for Charmaine and Edison. Pastor Chia and the team did several rehearsals prior to the ceremony to make sure the flow is smooth, so that the ceremony will be carried out perfectly. Everything that are done at KH aims at putting others needs and benefits as priority, an important rules of thumb the HOD Paul yap always emphasized on. A good leader is important for a team to be successful, and the KH team is blessed to be lead by one!
Very nice to have the registration marriage in Kechara House. Kechara Oasis also cater the wedding dinner for couple.
