Question asked by wangmo

I don't know…why human life is full of suffering. Is there any form of life seen by our eyes that is devoid of suffering…? Also I wonder where does mind roam..once death occurs.? lately..I m thinking and worrying too much about next life..please help..

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Wangmo,

Pabongka Rinpoche said in “Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand” that “as long as you have taken rebirth in samsara, you have not transcended suffering at all.” There is no being in samsara, whether seen or unseen, that is devoid of suffering. Human beings have to endure the sufferings of birth, ageing, sickness, death, having to part with what they like, meet with what they don’t like and not getting what they want. These sufferings are caused by our karma and our delusions: ignorance (of the nature of existence), desire and hatred. Therefore, to end suffering, we have to purify our negative karma as well as overcome these delusions by practising the Dharma and developing the three qualities: wisdom (realising the way things are), renunciation (of our desire/attachments) and compassion. These three qualities are the antidotes to our delusions.

When death occurs, our consciousness does not end. It will definitely take rebirth, either in the upper realms (god, demi-god or human) or in the lower realms (animal, hungry ghost or hell). It is good to worry about the next life because this fear of the possibility of going to the lower realms will make us want to take refuge in the Three Jewels and practise the Dharma diligently in order not to fall into the lower realms.

Question asked by Tashi

Once I did a card and dice divination from indian fortune teller..he told me I m vey kind, generous and good heart..due to these nature..people like to take advantage..i asked him..why so..he told people are greedy and selfish..so they see somebody as easy prey..how is his explanation related to karma..Thank you…!

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Tashi,

Being kind, generous, and having a good heart are qualities which one should develop because we are benefiting others. Some people may take advantage of you but only if you have the karma to have this happen to you. As Dharma practitioners, we must practise kindness and generosity without expecting anything in return, or any karmic ripening effects. If our generosity is motivated by bodhicitta, the act of giving is a true practice of generosity. Never regret after giving away material things. Make strong prayers and set good motivation both before and afterward, thinking that the giving is being done for all sentient beings.

Question asked by Aditya

Dear Dharma Masters,
Having defected from vedic practices,I find that I almost have started to harbor deep resentment and even animosity towards the Hindu deities who seem to be literally powerless in eliminating peoples afflictions. Is my attitude wrong ? What is the role of the gods in Buddhism, many sutras seem to be singing glories of Hindu deities (Eg. Suvarnaprabhasa glorifies goddesses lakshmi, saraswathi and Bhumi stating that they provide magical protection to followers ),is this not against the fundamental law of Karma ? The Karma sutra states that even gods cannot alter the karmic path, that takes its own course.I personally have experienced the same, with my life going from bad to worse in spite of my sincere piousness towards the gods.

My Humble thanks

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Aditya,

Some Hindu deities have entered the Buddhist pantheon and are worshipped by Buddhists with great respect. They do have special powers and can provide protection to those who have created the merits to receive. It is not fair to blame the deities for your or others’ unhappiness. This is indeed the wrong attitude to take. No god, not even the Buddha, can remove our afflictions which are the results of our karma. We ourselves must take the responsibility to overcome our afflictions by practising the Dharma well and gaining merits to support our practice. In other words, we have to walk the path. It is said that the Buddhas only show the way.

According to H.E. Tsem Rinpoche, “we need to empower ourselves by knowing that Buddha said, ‘Karma is created by us. We are the creators of our future. It is in our own hands.’ No god, no deity, no one out there, can change our future if we don’t do something. They can only teach us, they can only show us by example, but they can’t give it to us. If they can, the whole world would be at peace and everything would be perfect.”

I urge you to study and contemplate the Dharma. It will help you to understand the causes of your problems and find the method to overcome them. Above all, do not blame the gods because they are not the cause of your suffering. As H.E. Tsem Rinpoche said, “just as all your problems were created by you, all the happiness you have was also from you. You are the source.”

Question asked by tashi

I m curious..which life is more important this life or next life. In Mundane world all people aspire for this good life.Thank you..~

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Tashi,

The next life is more important. It is very rare to obtain the optimum human rebirth with all its freedoms and endowments to practise the Dharma. Therefore, we must not waste this opportunity by aspiring for the pleasures of this life. If we focus only on this life and get caught in its many demands – material gain, comfort, praise, reputation – we will not think of our future lives, liberation from suffering and will not practise the Dharma. Our craving for such things will be the cause for us to be reborn in samsara.

As Pabongka Rinpoche said, “… while you are not practising Dharma, your human life is running out. If you only think of the results of this life, you may achieve a few benefits in this life but will end up going to the lower realms in the next lives.”

A Dharma practitioner must ignore this life and abandon the eight worldly concerns. According to H.E. Tsem Rinpoche in his book “Compassion Conquers All”, “When we do actions with the eight worldly concerns, the act will lead to rebirth in the lower realms, and future lives will be spent with uncontrolled attachments like now.”

Therefore, it is important to give up worldly things and work hard to prepare for the next life/lives.

Question asked by Tashi

Can animals like buffalo, lion etc can take rebirth and born as human or higher realms…Thank you..!

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Tashi,

If you observe the animals, you will notice that some are docile, tame and friendly while others are fierce, wild and ferocious. Some are well-cared for by humans and some are homeless and roam the streets or land in search of food. These situations are not without cause and suggest that, at some stage in their migrations in samsara, they had been humans and as a result of their own past good and bad actions (karma), they are now reaping the fruits of what they had sown. However, when the karma of these animals has been exhausted in that particular life, they may be reborn as humans or as beings in the other realms of samsara in keeping with the karma that ripens at the time of death.

Question asked by Eli Levine

Dear Pastors,

I was wondering how one can get in touch with their past lives definitively. I think that learning more about where I've come from, what my mistakes were, where I can improve, and what I have done well would do wonders for figuring out what I could ultimately do in this lifetime in order to help others.

Also, what is the effective difference between an arhat and a bodhisattva? Hoping you can help.

Thank you!

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Eli Levine,

One can remember one’s past lives through intense meditation. Thus, some advanced meditators have this ability as part of their achievements.

However, practitioners should not be attached to such achievements as they can be more of a hindrance than a support in one’s practice. We should follow the Buddha’s example and practise to overcome our delusions, purify our mind, and achieve bodhicitta and wisdom. The ability to recall one’s past lives will be achieved when one becomes enlightened.

An arhat, “worthy one”, is one who is free from delusions, has attained nirvana and thus, is free from cyclic existence. A bodhisattva “enlightenment being”, is one who, out of compassion, takes a vow to delay his/her own personal enlightenment in order to work for the liberation of all sentient beings. The difference between an arhat and a bodhisattva is that an arhat has achieved personal liberation from samsara and will not be reborn. The goal of a bodhisattva, however, is to liberate all sentient beings from samsara and therefore, he/she continues to work for the welfare of others with this goal in mind.

Question asked by Oya

Deaar Pastors,
I have a question about vegitarianism and the Tsok Commitments. If one is a Vegan, as I am , what is your opinion, is meat a required offering for Tsok Offering ?
Thank you ,

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Oya,

Tsok offerings always include a bit of meat. It is part of the rituals. For more details, please refer to H.E. Tsem Rinpoche’s article in this blog “Advice to a Yamantaka Initiate” under the section “Buddhas, Dharma and Practice”: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/advice-to-a-yamantaka-initiation.html. Question asked by Tashi.

I like to know how karma really works practically in this life time..some instance..i notice malicious people whose intention is to use, misuse and abuse others kindness, help, generosity, when they got what they want through mind game…they abuse relationship, friendship etc…I m confused..leaving the good people emotionally frustrated..please help me in answering this question..thank you..!

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Tashi,

Karma is the law of cause and effect. Karma is: “All intentional bodily, verbal, and mental actions that are the cause of rebirth in the higher or lower realms”. This means that the result of a virtuous action can only be happiness and the result of a non-virtuous action can only be suffering. The question is: why do good people suffer? To answer this, we must understand that karma created in the present lifetime does not always ripen in this lifetime. It may ripen in the next life or many lifetimes later. The suffering of the “good people” you mentioned here could be due to causes created in their previous life or many lifetimes ago. Karma ripens as a result of causes and conditions. Without the causes and conditions, karma remains dormant. Since beginningless time, all of us have committed many sins and also many virtues. They will all bear fruit one day when the causes and conditions are there. If we understand karma and accept it as an impersonal, natural law that operates in accordance with our actions, we will be able to accept our sufferings of this life, as they are the ripened results of past actions. For future lives however, we can create better karma by modifying our behaviour, become virtuous people and stop harming others. I hope this helps to answer your question.

Question asked by Sandra Ch'ng

After learning about dharma I accepted karma. There must have been a very bad karmic relationship that had happened in previous lives between me and a close member of the family. As a result the said person is trying to destroy me financially although I have done no wrong with her in this present life.

How do I go about lessening the effect of our bad karma ? I chant migstema and tara prayers and mantras daily and do my best to contribute financially to any causes helping those less fortunate than me. What type of puja can I asked to be done for me through Kechara because I cannot let this situation carry on any further as it is causing me mental anguish and financial loss.

Thanks for your help.

Ch'ng

    Dear Sandra Ch’ng,

It is good that you are reciting prayers and chanting migtsema daily and also contributing to causes helping those who are in need. This will create positive energy and help to overcome the difficulties that you are facing. For the type of pujas to do, please refer to the Kechara House Front Desk, tel: +603 7803 3908.

Question asked by Jason

Is there a black tea ritual for 21 tara

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Jason,

As far as I know, there is no black tea ritual in the Praise to the Twenty-One Taras.

Question asked by jason

when i do mandala offerings my hands end up really hurting.is there a way where i can still do them but not feel pain when i hold the plates

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Jason,

You can use a base made of lighter material. The material for the constituent offerings can be light, like rice or other grains. It is normal to feel pain but you should remember the benefits, the vast amount of merits you will accumulate and the purification you will achieve through this practice. It helps to forget the pain when our motivation for doing the mandala offering is to benefit others. When you feel pain, think of Lama Tsongkhapa who did one million eight hundred thousand mandala offerings during his retreat. The forearm with which he rubbed the offering surface was often raw and bleeding. I hope this has been helpful.

Question asked by Mrs. g

Dear Pastors

I have 2 children. My son has grown up to be an obedient and filial child but my daughter has become more rebellious and does not live in harmony with the rest of the family.

Is it because of the bad karma I had with her in my previous life brought into this life ? If so what can I do to enable her to love and live in harmony with the rest of the family ?

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Mrs.g,

Poor relationships between members of the family could be due to karma created in past lives. What you are experiencing now is the result of causes and conditions created in the past and in this life. In order to overcome this problem, you yourself must practice the Dharma. Develop kindness and compassion in yourself in order to be a good example to your daughter. Be kind, patient and loving to her. Share the Dharma with her and the rest of the family if you can. When she sees the change in you (and in the other members of the family), she will become a better person. It might take some time, but with patience and effort, you will succeed.

Question asked by Pema Thinley

Dear pastors,

Rinpoche always tells that we should let go of our perceptions of how the teachers should be as it is selfish and ignorance. But when i first heard Rinpoche"s teachings i was deeply touched and thought to myself that he is my Guru. so, doe it mean that i accepted him as my Guru because his teachings fulfilled the thing how the teaching should be for me?

thank you
pema thinley

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Pema Thinley,

If you feel strongly that H.E. Tsem Rinpoche is your Guru, then go all the way. If, in your heart, you accept His Eminence as your Guru, then the guru-disciple relationship is practically “sealed”. Trust, be loyal and follow the teachings. You will only benefit from this. But you still need to be formally accepted as a student, and it is still necessary to take refuge. Do read up on taking refuge in the Three Jewels and the benefits of taking refuge. Read H.E.’s book “The Living Buddha Within” for more information and teachings.

Question asked by Anon

Dear Pastors, I've been so inspired by the picture of Tara, that Rinpoche posted recently. . I was wondering how to go about making offerings. . is it acceptable to give longer lasting offerings in front of Tara, that stay there for a few days.. and although this isn't something I've done before, shorter daily offerings, of for example water bowls.. the shorter offerings, are something I'm not sure I have the confidence to do yet.. Is it important to do that if you set up a Buddha image? I guess I worry that daily offerings, could become empty ritual, although I have to say I feel this Tara would help me overcome this concern, perhaps slowly, as she seems so alive and present. . with so many thanks for your time.

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Anon,

We are very happy to know you wish to make offerings to Mother Tara. By making offerings you will create the merit to be able to understand the Dharma and practise it well. An enlightened Buddha like Tara is a correct object of veneration, refuge and also a merit field. First, you have to set up an altar and place on it an image of Tara, a scriptural text (a dharma book) on Tara’s right and a stupa on Tara’s left. These are the representations of the Buddha’s enlightened body, speech and mind. In front of these holy objects, you can place a row of 7/8 bowls of sensory offerings and/or a row of 7/8 bowls of water offerings. The 8 bowls of sensory offerings are as follows: water, water, flower, incense, light, perfume, food and music. The water offerings must be changed daily. Offerings of fruits and flowers (e.g. in a vase) can be kept for longer as long as they remain fresh. The sensory offerings can be symbolic but it is important to offer light (a candle) every day if possible.

For more information and advice, please visit our Dharma stores “Kechara Paradise”, and learn more about offerings in this blog under the section “Buddhas, Dharma & Practice”. There are several articles which will be helpful to you, for example, “Floating Market: Dharma Sharing on Offerings”, “The Benefits of Offering Light”, “Making Water Offerings to the Buddhas”, and “Spectacular Shrine”. H.E. Tsem Rinpoche’s book entitled “The Living Buddha Within” also contains a section on setting up an altar and making offerings.

Question asked by Tan

Dear Pastors,

Is it okay to put buddhas images or mantras as computer desktop wallpaper. Then it will be covered up by all the software icons on the desktop? Is it disrecpectful to do that?

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Tan,

Yes, it is perfectly all right to use Buddha images or mantras as wallpaper in your computer. If you worry about icons covering up the images, just keep them to a minimum.

Question asked by John Ong

I've been drawn to the protector Dorje Shugden since reading up on all the 'controversies'. In fact it was the controversies that started me reading. I've done over 347,000 mantras of this protector and feel good. Is there anything else I can do to get 'closer' and have signs and good omens? Thank you ahead of time.

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear John Ong,

It is your choice to propitiate any protector you wish. In this time and age, there should be no obstruction to freedom of religion. It is the basic right of all human beings to follow any religion or deity whom they feel is right for them. We do not have any special advice for you with regard to your practice except to follow your heart. What we do know is that enlightened protectors will help if your motivation is based on bodhicitta, that is, you must have the altruistic intention to benefit others in whatever you do.

Question asked by Eli Levine

Dear Pastors,

A follow up to my last question: how does one effectively balance being a real Dharma practitioner while maintaining a secular job and lifestyle? We can't all be monks and nuns, after all in order to ensure that Dharma can be realized and practiced effectively by everyone and anyone. How can I, as a lay practitioner who wishes to bring the Essence of Dharma into all secular aspects of society, starting with the government, accomplish this task? Would you be willing to act as my guides while I attempt this? How can I consult with teachers and the Sangha when I don't have any such connections?

Hoping you can help. Your advice was most excellent. Thank you! 🙂

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Eli Levine,

For lay practitioners, it is recommended that they divide their time in this way: 50% for the Dharma and 50% for their secular life. Your desire to bring Dharma into all aspects of society is commendable. But we still think that a practitioner should have a qualified spiritual guide who can help him to overcome his delusions and transform his mind. Before you can help others to practise the Dharma, you yourself must have walked the path. With knowledge, experience and insight, you will be better equipped to help others. We strongly recommend that you look for a guru. You can check out the Dharma centres near your home. Good luck to you.

Question asked by Miriam Pia

My question is about giving to charities and to the dharma center. I understand that both are important but do not know the best way to think about which should come first – or how to know when one should come before the other in priority. Can you explain this? Thank you.

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Miriam Pia,

The basis is the same but the difference is in the motivation. Giving must be done without the worldly concerns, that is, for praise or a good reputation. In order for the deed to be meritorious, it must be performed sincerely to benefit others, whether it is for the charitable organisation or for a dharma centre. “Merits” is a fundamental concept in Buddhism. The accumulation of merit is considered essential for results in one’s spiritual path.

According to Pabongka Rinpoche in “Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand”, “Generosity becomes more and more powerful when practised toward ordinary people, one’s parents, monks and nuns, lay or ordained bodhisattvas, buddhas and one’s gurus respectively.” Therefore, if you are practising Dharma and wish to accumulate merits, the priority is the Dharma centre which acts as your [merit] field.

Another reason why giving to a Dharma centre is more powerful is when the sponsor has taken vows, for example, to refrain from committing the ten non-virtues. He/she will receive merits continuously and build up a great store of virtues.

Question asked by Aditya

Dear Dharma Masters,

Do Ghosts exist according to buddhism, Buddhism negates the presence of a soul,in that case are they merely energies or tricks of the skandhas ?

My humble thanks.

  1. Reply by pastor

    Dear Aditya,

Buddhism does not deny the existence of ghosts. Buddhists believe that after death, one is reborn in either the upper realms or the lower realms. In the six realms of samsara, one of the lower realms is the Hungry Ghost realm. The beings here suffer from heat, cold, hunger, thirst, exhaustion and fear. They are also subject to birth and death. This means that they do not remain permanently in the spirit form. Spirits also exist in the same world where we live. Ordinary people cannot see them. Only those who are clairvoyant can see these beings as they belong to a different dimension.

Meet the Pastors

Serving the community. Tirelessly

Combining the responsibilities of the ordained and the appearance of a layperson, pastors are the connection between the sangha and the everyday practitioner. They are ordinary people who have taken an extraordinary step in dedicating their lives towards sharing the Buddhist tradition. As laypeople holding vows, pastors will make the Dharma accessible to more people, giving them guidance and sharing knowledge. The pastors are usually present at Kechara House and available for consultation anytime. For more information, contact house@kechara.com.

Pastor Chia (sangha to be)

As a pastor, Chia will dedicate his life to befitting others through spreading the works of Tsem Rinpoche and Dharma to many people, through the use of pujas, rituals, counseling and sharing of his knowledge.

Ordained as a Pastor in 2011, Chia Song Peng has had a rich and varied Dharma career. He has held a core position with the Kechara Paradise retail outlets, served as a personal attendant to Tsem Rinpoche, embarked on various pilgrimages and received initiations into higher yoga tantric practices. He is accomplished in many pujas and has a deep understanding of the Dharma.

As a pastor, Chia has dedicated his life to befitting others through spreading the works of Tsem Rinpoche and Dharma to many people, through the use of pujas, rituals, counseling and sharing of his knowledge.

When Chia first met Tsem Rinpoche, he was asked if he wanted to become a monk, however even though this was his aspiration he informed Tsem Rinpoche that he would do so at a later date. For Chia, as he has is already in the Dharma full-time, it would be best if he became ordained. Tsem Rinpoche has reminded Chia from time to time to work towards becoming a monk and he promised that he would do so in the future.

Kechara began from nothing to become a growing Dharma organisation with major projects such as Kechara Forest Retreat, so Chia thinks that this is the perfect time to become ordained as a monk. Recently Tsem Rinpoche asked Chia again if he would like to be ordained, this time Chia said yes.

Pastor Khong Jean Ai (sangha to be)

Jean Ai wishes to become a vessel that holds the teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa to benefit future generations, inspiring others to live by the Buddha’s teachings.

Jean Ai met His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche as a young child and through her parents' involvement with Kechara over the years, she has never known a life without His Eminence. Jean Ai was a regular volunteer of Tsem Ladrang during her childhood and teenage years. After graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Warwick in the UK and working at the London Probation Service, she returned to Kuala Lumpur to join Tsem Ladrang's e-division. There she managed kechara.com, responsible for the weekly Kechara e-newsletter, including content generation and editing. Since then she has joined His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s writing team, responsible for executing Rinpoche’s personal instructions and managing his correspondence.

Having visited a nunnery in India in 2004, Jean Ai remembers noticing how happy and purposeful everyone was. She had a feeling of familiarity and the sight of the robes comforted her. Immediately, Jean Ai messaged her mother who told her to ask Rinpoche’s advice. Rinpoche told her to complete her secular education so that when she taught the Dharma her words would carry the credibility and weight of a university degree, something she completed with the motivation that some day she wanted to become a nun.

Through her ordination as a nun, Jean Ai wishes to become a vessel that holds the teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa to benefit future generations, inspiring others to live by the Buddha’s teachings. Through this she hopes to repay the kindness of her parents and her Guru. Above all she wants to abide in a state free of suffering, and she wants this for others as well.

Pastor Shin Tan (sangha to be)

For Shin, this is a great step forward to being fully committed to the cause of others and repaying others’ kindness through sharing the Dharma with others.

Before joining Kechara, Shin worked as a lecturer and provider of content and e-learning content solutions for various start-ups. Whilst providing training to educators teaching students in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) at various colleges, she was invited to attend a Dharma talk given by His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche at Kechara House. This event rekindled her interest in Tibetan Buddhism, as she recalled the joy of accompanying her parents to teachings as a teenager.

Joining Kechara Media & Publications in 2006 as a volunteer, Shin assumed a full time position there as a Marketing Executive, with the aim of making His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s teachings available to more people around the world. Shin is now a member of the Tsem Ladrang Team, who takes care of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s secular matters, enabling Rinpoche to focus on teaching the holy Dharma.

Shin states that when she decided to join Kechara full time, she had already decided to be of some benefit to others and spend the rest of her life doing only that. Working closely with His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, seeing his tireless effort in helping others and spreading the Buddhadharma through the Gaden tradition despite tremendous challenges has made her realise that the next logical step is to become ordained as she has the opportune conditions to study with her Guru. For Shin this is also a great step forward to being fully committed to the cause of others and repaying others’ kindness through sharing the Dharma with others.

Pastor Adeline Woon (sangha to be)

Since finding her spiritual home here in Kechara, Adeline has made dharma work her life’s mission and wishes to dedicate herself fully towards the benefit of others.

Adeline stumbled across His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche's blog towards the end of 2010 and has been following his blog and Facebook page ever since. Since graduating from Dharma Drum Buddhist College Taiwan with a Masters of Arts in Religious Studies in July 2012, she returned to Malaysia and joined Kechara as a Senior Education Executive. Adeline was attracted by His Eminence’s straightforwardness and impressed at Kechara's growth under his guidance. To Adeline, His Eminence is someone who walks the talk, keeps his promises and sincerely cares for others displaying an excellent example of guru devotion, qualities that she seeks to develop herself.

Since finding her spiritual home here in Kechara, Adeline has made dharma work her life’s mission. It was in May 2013 that she officially requested His Eminence for ordination as a nun to dedicate her life fully for the dharma. According to Adeline, become ordained means that she is being true to her calling to live according to the dharma and be of benefit to others.

This however can only be achieved by meeting and studying under her root Guru. Adeline has been fortunate enough to have met with hers - His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche.

Pastor Niral Patel (sangha to be)

It is Niral’s motivation for full ordination to better himself, learn the teachings of our lineage in order to preserve them for future generations. He wishes to benefit others, just as he has benefited and is still benefiting from Tsem Rinpoche’s explanation of the Dharma.

Niral was born and raised in the UK, having graduated with a BA in Anthropology, he was working as a Financial Administrator for a Serviced Apartment & Hotel company as well as a Management Services company before stumbling across His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s Youtube channel, entirelyby accident. It was through His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s teachings that he began to understand the importance of practicing the Dharma, in order to benefit himself and others around him.

Having been in contact with one of Tsem Rinpoche’s long time students in the UK, he was encouraged to visit Kechara in late 2012 for a 10 day visit. At the end of the visit Tsem Rinpoche requested Niral to come to work at Kechara, to which he agreed.

Niral moved to Malaysia in February 2013 to work as an education coordinator at Kechara House, assisting the Education Division in the creation and implementation of the new education syllabus, teaching teenagers during the Kechara Sunday Dharma School. Ever since meeting Tsem Rinpoche, he has always been encouraged by Tsem Rinpoche to do more Dharma work and strive to better himself. It is with that in mind, that Niral has requested monastic ordination.

It is Niral’s motivation for full ordination to better himself, learn the teachings of our lineage in order to preserve them for future generations. He wishes to benefit others, just as he has benefited and is still benefiting from Tsem Rinpoche’s explanation of the Dharma.

Pastor Tan Gim Lee (sangha to be)

Gim Lee’s main focus is to guide and help anyone who steps through Kechara’s doors through Dharma sharing, counselling, performing pujas and other Buddhist services. She wishes to repay Rinpoche’s kindness by spreading Lama Tsongkhapa’s holy teachings and inspiring others on the spiritual path.

She discovered Kechara by chance in 2006 and started to participate Kechara's activities almost immediately especially the retreat to collect 10 million Migtsema recitations. In April 2006, when Gim Lee met H.E. Tsem Rinpoche and first listened to his teachings, she wept uncontrollably. Though she could not understand it at the time, she had finally found her perfect teacher. She is especially touched by Tsem Rinpoche's compassionate method of teaching by setting his own examples.

Having joined as a staff of Kechara House responsible for housekeeping in 2009, Gim Lee is now one of Kechara House's Front Desk Managers predominantly based in the retreat centre in Bentong, Pahang. She also teaches the Sunday Dharma Class and moderates Dharma discussions on Tsem Rinpoche's blog chat.

The many teachings she has received from Tsem Rinpoche have changed her priorities in life. She found answers to her questions about the purpose of life, and she has realised that the way to overcome the sufferings of pain and anger is by following the path of compassion and wisdom as taught by Lord Buddha. These realisations have led to her request to be ordained as a Sangha member.

As pastor now, and later as a Buddhist nun, Gim Lee's main focus is to guide and help anyone who steps through Kechara's doors through Dharma sharing, counselling, performing pujas and other Buddhist services. She wishes to repay Rinpoche's kindness by spreading Lama Tsongkhapa's holy teachings and inspiring others on the spiritual path.

Pastor Loh Seng Piow (sangha to be)

Loh Seng Piow developed a strong wish to help Rinpoche in spreading the Dharma to the world. With that determination, Loh Seng Piow chose not to pursue his PhD degree in Cambridge University (for which he had been offered a place), resigned from his research job, and joined Tsem Rinpoche as full-time Dharma worker, and has never looked back since.

Back in 2001, Loh Seng Piow had no inkling of just how involved in Dharma he would become. As a Masters degree-holder in Engineering, Loh Seng Piow was working as a research engineer in Singapore when he met His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche. Rinpoche’s talk left a strong impression on him and after a few encounters with Rinpoche, Loh Seng Piow started developing websites for Rinpoche and Kechara.

Loh Seng Piow was trained in science, but soon realised that there were many questions that science could not answer. At the same time, he also felt that science and technology are not the solution to human problems, as humans are much better off compared to thousands years ago, yet the problems in this world are still the same, if not more, and we do not seem to be happier than our ancestors.

Loh Seng Piow soon realised that the Dharma is the ultimate solution to human problems, and that the methods used by His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche are very suitable for this modern era.

Meeting Rinpoche was a very refreshing experience for Loh Seng Piow, as he never knew Dharma could be so unconventional yet maintain its essence. As Rinpoche’s personal attendant, Loh Seng Piow has had many incredible moments with Rinpoche and considers himself extremely fortunate because he sees real Dharma in action, both on and off the throne. It challenges him to practice Dharma 24/7. In this way, Rinpoche has blown away his old and persistent way of thinking, which was very much focused on the outer rituals of Dharma.

Having seen that Tsem Rinpoche truly embodies what he teaches, Loh Seng Piow is convinced beyond doubt that it is possible to develop our minds to a higher state, and ultimately achieving enlightenment. All these factors have propelled Loh Seng Piow to take a step further in his Dharma career to become ordained as a pastor in order to be even more effective in sharing and disseminating the Dharma to benefit others.

Pastor Yek Yee

Naturally an introvert, Yek Yee has transformed what was once her weakness into her strength; making what was once impossible now eminently possible.

Independence was forced upon Kok Yek Yee from the tender age of nine, when she had to juggle between work and school to make ends meet. Always the introvert, Yek Yee had few friends and had difficulty expressing herself. So it was unexpected when she chose a career in journalism.

Yek Yee excelled as an award-winning reporter with Guang Ming Daily and Nanyang Siang Pau. Her articles garnered her a fanbase, and in writing, she found an outlet for the thoughts and feelings that she could not verbalise. However, despite her success, Yek Yee was not satisfied. Temporary happiness was not what she was looking for – success, money, relationships, or fame was not the key.

In her search for happiness, Yek Yee met H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, who told her “don’t retaliate with your speech, but use your power of writing to express yourself”. This led her to join Kechara Media & Publications as a writer; subsequently she was appointed Senior Editor as well as a Liaison to His Eminence.

Yek Yee now holds a core role in Kechara Care, giving advice, tours, counseling and teachings to whoever walks through their doors. Through courage and determination, she has transformed what was once her weakness into her strength; making what was once impossible now eminently possible.

As a Pastor, her patience and open-mindedness developed through her journey with Kechara will bring comfort and solace, and her new-found ability to nurture and teach others will bring hope to many.

Pastor Lanse Chiah

Having been a Pastor for a year, Lanse wishes to continue with her integral duties by renewing her vows again.

Lanse graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Jinan University in Guangzhou, China in 1999 and became a part-time lecturer for several years, teaching western medicine in a Traditional Chinese medical college in Kuala Lumpur.

For a long time, Lanse remained an atheist, subconsciously searching for a spiritual guru as she sought answers to questions she harboured in her mind, questions that had led her into a state of depression during her time at university. As such, she would often read philosophical books in her search for answers.

Lanse first came to know of Kechara in 2007, through her friend of over 10 years, Pastor Yek Yee. She was surprised to see a complete transformation in Pastor Yek Yee, whom she had always known as a non-spiritual person. The first book by Kechara that Lanse chanced upon was the Chinese version of Be Greedy. Naturally, Lanse was skeptical at first, thus she read the book in an attempt to find mistakes with the philosophy. However, she couldn’t find any and was left impressed by how logical the explanations in the book were.

In March 2009, Lanse joined Kechara Media & Publications (KMP) part-time to carry out Chinese translation and help with transcription. The following year, she contemplated upon whether to pursue a full-time medical or a Dharma career, finally deciding on the latter. Lanse came to realise that, although both careers share the same motivation of easing people’s sufferings, she felt that her work in Dharma could lead to a greater contribution for the sake of all sentient beings in a deeper, spiritual sense.

Having been a Pastor for a year, Lanse wishes to continue with her integral duties by renewing her vows again.

Pastor Han Nee

It was not until she witnessed how Rinpoche brought peace and comfort to her dying mother, that she realised she also wanted to touch others with the Dharma.

Lim Han Nee, a mother of two, is a retired secondary school principal. She retired in December 2000 after a 30-year career in education. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Education at Leicester University in the UK, at the end of 2001.

After gaining her master’s degree, Han Nee considered further options of embarking on a doctorate in education or spending her years in retirement, travelling and visiting family. At the same time, she was also in search of her spiritual path. She had begun exploring Theravadan and Chinese Mahayana Buddhism for answers to questions she had.

In December 2004, Han Nee attended a teaching retreat on the topic of the Lamrim and White Tara held by His Eminence Gelek Rinpoche. As the retreat proceeded, she found her questions were being answered. Then in June 2005, Han Nee was introduced to Kechara by her sister, where she met her spiritual guide, His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, who has recently told her that she must go all the way in the Dharma for the benefit of others.

Han Nee had been a school guidance counsellor for nearly twenty years. However, it was not until she witnessed how Rinpoche brought peace and comfort to her dying mother, that she realised she also wanted to touch others with the Dharma.

A member of Kechara’s Puja Team, who conduct sponsored pujas in Shabten Khang, Han Nee is also a member of the Education Division with the portfolio of Content Development. Apart from this, Han Nee is also a member of the weekly Kechara Chat Time team.

Pastor David Lai

In 2014, with a sincere wish to benefit others, David decided to be ordained as a Buddhist pastor to continue serving the spiritual needs of the organisation.

David Lai has been a student of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche for over a decade now and was one of the founding members of Kechara. He joined Kechara as a full time staff in 2005 and has been working in various departments beginning with the Kechara Paradise outlets.

Right from the beginning, David had been advised by His Eminence to go into writing. Overcoming various hurdles, David finally began his literary career with the publication of his first book and autobiography, There’s No Way But Up in 2009. The book charts his spiritual journey from his childhood and culminates in the meeting with His Eminence.

The positive feedback from this book led him to write various other publications like Vajrayogini and Other Power Places in Nepal – a pilgrim’s guide of Nepal, Tales My Lama Told Me – a book on short stories and Conversations in Love – a book on relationships. These books continue to inspire and bring people onto the Dharma.

Besides writing, David has found his passion in sharing the Dharma since his earlier days working in the Kechara Paradise outlets. Over the years, David has received innumerable teachings from His Eminence, ranging from public teachings to personal instructions and advice. He is known to passionately share these teachings whenever he can and to whomever he meets. In 2014, with a sincere wish to benefit others, David decided to be ordained as a Buddhist pastor to continue serving the spiritual needs of the organisation.

Pastor Henry Ooi

After following Rinpoche as a Dharma student for all these years, learning and practicing the Dharma, Henry knows the importance of the pastors’ role in Kechara founded by Rinpoche. He wants to become a pastor to serve Rinpoche, to serve Kechara, and to serve the public.

Born in 1952 in Penang, Henry moved to Kuala Lumpur in search of work after he finished his Form Five studies in 1969. He worked at different types of jobs and it was when he was jobless in 1997/8 that he met His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche at the house of his cousin, Ruby (now Dato’ Ruby Khong), when Rinpoche was giving a dharma teaching. At that teaching Henry was awed by how Rinpoche taught Dharma with simple yet profound explanations.

With the kind guidance, teachings and Dharma practices by Rinpoche including instruction to engage in their first spiritual retreat, Henry and his wife Angel started a small business that soon became profitable. A few years later after Kechara House Buddhist Association was founded, Rinpoche started to enrol students as liaisons and that was when Henry and Dato’ Ruby offered themselves. Later more students were elected as liaisons that saw the birth of Liaisons Council. The Liaisons Council is now known as the Board of Directors of which Henry is one of its members.

Currently Henry is the Project Director, overseeing the construction and completion of projects in the Kechara Forest Retreat. Prior to this appointment he was the Head of Department in Kechara Paradise retail outlets of which he served for about ten years. He still remains as its company director as well as director for most of the companies within Kechara. He served one term as vice president of Kechara House Buddhist Association from 2012 to 2103.

After following Rinpoche as a Dharma student for all these years, learning and practicing the Dharma, Henry knows the importance of the pastors’ role in Kechara founded by Rinpoche. He wants to become a pastor to serve Rinpoche, to serve Kechara, and to serve the public. As he aspires to be a monk as he grows older, being a pastor of Kechara will pave the way for his aspiration. Henry believes that as one gets older in life, one should have already prepared for the imminent, death. And what a beautiful death it will be, to die in Kechara Forest Retreat in a monk’s robes. This is the kind of death that Henry wants. But before the imminent death happens, Henry wants to continue working in Kechara Forest Retreat, serving the community and whoever comes into it in whatever way he can. And when he is not physically anymore to serve others, he will request instructions from Rinpoche to enter into retreats in Kechara Forest Retreat.

Pastor Patsy Gooi

All that Patsy wants now is to spend the rest of her life doing dharma work, dharma practices and being of benefit to others.

Formerly a full time housewife with plenty of free time, Patsy had the great fortune to visit Gaden Monastery and meet H.E. Tsem Rinpoche almost twenty years ago. That one week stay in the monastery changed her view of life. Prior to that, she had no spiritual inclinations but meeting Rinpoche stirred something inside her, and she realised that there was more to life than just eating, sleeping, shopping and having fun. Rinpoche’s approach to dharma was logical and practical but most importantly, he stressed that we should always focus out and work towards benefitting others. Rinpoche made dharma easy to understand and his advice was and still is, to “change inwardly, not outwardly.”

In 2009, after years of practicing and applying what she had learned from Rinpoche’s teachings, Patsy decided to set up a Kechara retail outlet in Penang to share the dharma with others. She knew that Rinpoche’s teachings were very applicable to the people of our time and that his activities would benefit others just as they had benefited her. She also wanted to repay the kindness of her Guru who had constantly helped and guided her. Today, Kechara Paradise Penang is not just a dharma shop but also organises puja sessions, animal liberation and dharma talks.

In 2010, again with Rinpoche’s blessings, Patsy set up the Kechara Soup Kitchen Activity Center in Penang. Saddened to see the plight of the homeless and urban poor on the streets, Patsy decided to practice “compassion through action” as taught by Rinpoche in the most active way she knows. Today, together with her team of volunteers, Patsy feeds the homeless and urban poor four times a week and provides basic food provisions to many hardcore poor families on a monthly basis.

All that Patsy wants now is to spend the rest of her life doing dharma work and dharma practices, and that she may be of benefit to others.

Pastor Albert Ratchaga

In 2008, Albert Ratchaga began working as a part timer in Kechara Paradise, but as he learned more about the works of Rinpoche and Kechara, Rinpoche’s kindness and compassion touched him deeply. He realised that his work gave his life more meaning and decided to join Kechara full time.

Through his work as a sales executive, Albert was able learn more Dharma from Rinpoche's teachings and use this wisdom to assist those who entered his store to overcome their problems, thus improving their lives.

Albert soon developed a deep wish to follow in Rinpoche’s footsteps and in 2016 was ordained as a Pastor to continue benefitting and serving others.

Wesak Day, a celebration to commemorate the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. Buddhists around the world marks his enlightenment as when he discovered life’s meaning. It is also a time to reflect on his teachings and what it means to be Buddhist. Its the most sacred day to millions of Buddhists around the world.
Wesak Day in Malaysia where Buddhists nationwide gather at temples . Each of different Buddhist temples celebrated at dawn with various pujas or prayers, meditation, with offerings of flowers, candles and incense ,emphasizing the impermanence of life. Most temples do rituals “Bathing the Buddha” ceremony to wash away bad karma and grand candlelight processions in Penang and Kuala Lumpur. At our Kechara Forest Retreat, Bentong Pahang, we have pujas, flowers, candles and incense offerings as well.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

It is interesting to note the stark contrast of the current estranged relationship between China and Tibet . The HH Dalai Lama banned the practice of Shugden in Gelug monasteries in 1996. Reason is that Dorje Shugden is a spirit a threat to Tibetan Buddhism unity and not a protector. To many of the practitioners they whom consider to be one of several protectors of the Gelug . Infact for thousands years many highly attained Lamas had rely on Dorje Shugden and many practiced it . Even the H H Dalai Lama did practiced Dorje Shugden before the ban and have enjoyed in the past. The controversy is a complex mix of religious schism within the Gelug school and political move by China. Situation now improved with Dalai Lama said practitioners could practice Dorje Shugden’s practice.May Dalai Lama lift the ban soon for the benefits of peace, unity and harmony.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Interesting and inspiring post of a great Lama. Drogon Tsangpa Gyare (1161–1211) was a Buddhist ascetic and the main disciple of Lingchen Repa Pema Dorje. He was one of the most outstanding disciples of Ling Repa. He was the founder of the Drukpa Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism later became influential in Ladakh and Bhutan. It is one of several lineages known as “Red Hat sects”. He mastered the Vajrayana practices of mahamudra and the Six Yogas of Naropa at an early age. He discovered spiritual treasure which had been concealed by Rechung Dorje Drakpa, a principal disciple of Milarepa. Tsangpa Gyare became a widely known teacher with thousands of disciples. Interesting short biography.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

The Dorje Shugden controversy has been going for a long long time . Time to realize the mistakes of the ban that cause and affecting millions of people across the world. It has cause pain and suffering just because they believed Dorje Shugden is an evil and could be harmful. Many families, monks and monasteries are torn apart due to illogical ban by the Tibetan leadership in exile. Many high attained Lamas and millions had practiced Dorje Shugden for more than 400 years before the ban. This practice will continue and it will not be destroyed or fake away as it a very beneficial practice. Time will tell , it cannot be wrong , the Dorje Shugden controversy ban are illogical . Peace cannot be kept by force, it can only be achieved by understanding and having dialoque. Peace is not absence of conflict, it is the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means. May this controversy come an end with theTibetan leadership having a discussion with various Shugden communities.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Virupa 9th century Indian mahasiddha and yogi, also known as Virupaksa and Tutop Wangchuk. Mahasiddha Virupa, the Lord of all yogis, was born in a royal family in east India. He is one of the most revered Indian Buddhist Mahasiddhas and a founding figure of the Sakya tradition. Known for his unconventional life, famous for miraculous feats, such as stopping the sun. He is often depicted in art with a pointed finger, a large belly, and a skull cup. Interesting. He is featured amongst the famous collection of 84 and he is part of Dorje Shugden’s incarnation lineage.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor David sharing this great Indian mahasiddha and yogi.

Interesting read of some of the world’s creepiest, haunted, and abandoned tunnels. These tunnels often feature in urban legends due to their, dark history, cramped conditions, and reputation for supernatural activity. Its always that’s spirits being trapped at that location so generally people feel uncomfortable when driving in tunnels. They even claim to hear ghostly trains and voices echoing from within. There’s so many haunted tunnels in the world, it seems.
Thank you Rinpoche for this interesting sharing…….goose bumps true stories of haunted tunnels.

Wat Muang, nestled in the historic city of Ayutthaya, Thailand, stands as a testament to the cultural heritage and spiritual significance. The concrete statue is painted gold, standing 92–95 meters tall and 63 meters wide. It is the tallest statue in Thailand and among the tallest in the world. Visitors often visit to pay respect and are known to touch the tip of the statue’s finger for blessings. Interesting this statue has a remarkable history behind it. The surrounding Wat Muang temple, there’s a “Hell Garden” featuring graphic and life-size figures . Just looking at those beautiful pictures in the blog, its awesome. A place worth visiting. Would love to visit someday.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

ELON MUSK TESLA CRYPTO SCAM MY TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE

I’m still shaking my head in shock. I lost a whopping $64,000 to a fake Tesla investment platform that used convincing deepfake Elon Musk videos to lure me in. The promised 15% daily profits were too good to be true, and I ended up barely scraping by to pay my bills. But here’s the good news: I didn’t have to go broke completely. A friend who’d been in a similar situation recommended Jetwebhackers, a team of skilled investigators who specialize in recovering stolen crypto funds. I was hesitant at first, but they impressed me with their professionalism, speed, and no-upfront-fees approach. In just 72 hours, they tracked down the scammers, recovered my full Bitcoin, and gave me my life back. If you’ve fallen victim to a similar Elon Musk Tesla crypto scam or any other type of financial fraud, don’t wait – reach out to Jetwebhackers before it’s too late.

Hi guys, just wanted to share my thoughts on this post. I’ve been following this blog for a little while now, and I have to say this is one of the best pieces you’ve put out. The way you explained everything was so clear that I didn’t have to re-read anything to understand it. That’s the sign of a writer who truly knows their audience. It reminded me of why I enjoy using WinZO APP. The app doesn’t make me work to figure out how things work. Everything is laid out intuitively, so I can just focus on having fun. Your writing is the same way. I didn’t have to work to understand it. I just read and enjoyed. Thanks for that. Looking forward to the next one.

A heartfelt reunion gathering between Damian Aspinall a conservationist and a gorilla named Kwibi. Kwibi was brought up in a conservation park (Howletts Wild Animal Park) in England. Howletts Wild Animal Park is a 90-acre wildlife park and conservation charity. The park is a beautiful ancient parkland that is ideal for great days out in Kent with the entire family. It was opened in 1975, famous for housing over 390 animals. Kwibi gorilla was brought up in the park and was released back to nature to be free into the wild when he was 5 years old in the forest of Gabon, in West Africa. The park is a registered charity that funds overseas projects and animal reintroduction in an effort to help their species to survive from extinction. Damian went back to Gabon after 5 years later to see if Kwibi is alive. Sure enough They were reunited again happily . An emotional encounter between the conservationist and Kwibi gorilla as shown in the video. The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.
    Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer

Our altar! It was colourful and neatly arranged because it's a way for us to accumulate merit through offerings. All the items on the altar are deeply symbolic, representing enlightened qualities that practitioners aspire to develop. Kechara Penang Study Group by Jacinta.
