Born and raised in England, Wei considers himself very fortunate to have met his root guru so early in his life. During a family holiday to Malaysia, he was introduced to Tsem Rinpoche many years ago at around eight years old. Growing up, he always found himself deep in philosophical thought and that the Buddhist teachings made much sense to him. Since then, he has considered himself a Buddhist who has tried to apply the teachings to his daily life. In recent years, he has become more involved with volunteering in Kechara, predominantly through writing. He is very grateful for his parents, who enable his volunteering trips to Malaysia.

In his childhood, Wei was never fond of school and much rather preferred to stay at home to play video games. This became a significant problem in his teenage years when he would stay up late and miss school regularly. Struggling to articulate his misunderstood emotions at the time, this was due to his desperate desire to avoid school as opposed to his desire to play video games. As a self-proclaimed, “self-centred spoilt brat”, he was unable to see the value in traditional education and how it might be of benefit to others.

In the summer of 2013, Tsem Rinpoche advised him to complete his higher education as it would support his future Dharma studies. Accepting his guru’s advice, he began studying ‘BSc (Hons) Philosophy with Psychology’ at the University of Hull in 2014 and graduated in the summer of 2017. He found much value in his course, from discovering a fondness for philosophical application, to improving the style and comprehension of his writing. He believes that the skills he learned, from his time at university, has helped him immensely in following the most recent advice from his guru, which was to write a book on Dorje Shugden.
