Hi my dear Rinpoche and pastors,
Tashi Delek!
Thank you Rinpoche for reading my question. I received higher tantric empowerment around eight years ago. May I know is it possible for me to be trained and become the Oracle of the great protector Dorje Shugden one day in future without ordained as a monk?
Thank you Rinpoche. Please remain for another kalpa for the sake of all sentient beings… Tashi Delek! 🙂

    Dear Sangye,

Thank you for your question. There are many ways that a candidate is chosen to become an oracle of Dorje Shugden. The first is that Dorje Shugden chooses the candidate himself, the second is that the lama chooses the candidate, or the third is that candidate approaches the lama and Dorje Shugden with the request to become an oracle. Following this, there is a long process of tantric retreats, to clear the energy channels in the body to facilitate trance of Dorje Shugden. You may even already have a suitable empowerment dependant on the higher tantric empowerment that you received from your lama.

It is not necessary to be ordained as a monk to be an oracle of Dorje Shugden. There are examples of oracles being lay people as well. However, those who are ordained generate merit quicker than lay people, by virtue of holding their monastic vows well. This helps the process. Therefore, although it may be better in the training for the candidate to be a monk, this is not a must.

There are some articles that you may find useful to explain the process, available to read here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/great-lamas-masters/unique-dorje-shugden-oracle-statue-in-kechara-forest-retreat.html. There is an explanation in the article that details the process that the candidate goes through in order to become an oracle.

There is also a video teachings about oracles, available to watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ttZlpjG4N8

As a higher tantric practitioner you should keep the commitments that you took during your empowerment well, and follow the instructions given by your lama. You will progress well on your spiritual path if you honour your teacher by following his or her advice. I hope this helps.

    Thank you.

    Dear Rainbow,

It’s my pleasure to be able to help in any way I can. I am glad that you wrote back. Generally speaking is it good to have a dedicated room in the house for the altar. But for most people, that is not feasible. The guideline to follow is to place the altar in a place that is respectful and clean. Therefore it should not be placed in the bathroom, and if you have no space and have to place it in the bedroom, you should ensure that it is respectfully placed in a cabinet that can be closed, or a place that can be covered, when engaging in daily activities such as sleeping, changing clothes, etc. I know many people who keep the altar in the living room, in a clean and respectful place. The altar should have representations of the body, speech, and mind of the enlightened beings. Representations would include an image/statue (body), Dharma text (speech), and a stupa (mind). Together with these you can include and make daily offerings, such as water offerings, offering of food, incense, light, etc. There is no specific way the altar should be facing, or how high it should be, etc. As long as you have faith, make offerings and are sincere, the Buddhas will come to reside in your house.

If you do this, as the Buddhas will be present in your house, there is no need to adjust the layout of your house, or to find another house due to Feng Shui reasons. The enlightened energies are very powerful and would get rid of all negative energies, and also bring positive energy into the lives of those who live in the house.

If you are seeking this energy for a specific purpose, the Buddhas have manifested themselves in certain forms with certain practices that aid people in different ways. For example, if you need:

    1. Healing energies, you should engage in the practice of Shize Dorje Shugden (https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/dorje-shugden/shize-a-practice-for-healing-and-long-life.html) or Medicine Buddha (https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/prayers-and-sadhanas/medicine-buddha-practice.html)

    2. Energies to increase prosperity, you should engage in the practice of Gyenze Dorje Shugden (https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/prayers-and-sadhanas/dorje-shugden-gyenze-to-increase-life-merits-and-wealth.html) or Dzambala practice (https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/prayers-and-sadhanas/sadhana-prayers.html#14)

    3. Energies for power and influence, you should engage in the practice of Wangze (https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/dorje-shugden-wangze-for-power-and-influence.html)

    4. Energies to overcome very severe negativity, black magic and spirit affliction. For this, you should engage in the practice of Trakze (https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/trakze-to-dispel-black-magic-spirits.html).

Having images of any of these Buddhas on your altar, will bring the energies that they are associated with into your home, and the lives of yourself and your family. I hope this helps.

    Thank you.

is it true that the astral body is made by trilons of trilions of trilions of electrons? each electron contains information like a big biblioteque…the only things that can damage the astral body are drugs and loud noises like in discoteque…evil psichiatric persons have forced me to take legal drugs for 7 year…is there a way to heal from legal drugs ? beacuse the risk is that these damages or false and erased informations could remain for even some lifes times…how can one heal quickly the astral body that contains the chakras? it is from twenty years that some people spray drugs in the skies…so i don't know how it will finish this timeline for people…if you want more information read thiaoouba prophecy book…or ra material…

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Dear Lukes B,

Thank you for your question. From a Tibetan Buddhist perspective, we all have a gross body which is our physical body, and we also have a subtle body, which you could term to be an astral body or body made up of energy. Our chakras are part of this subtle body. Within Tibetan Buddhist tantra, one would utilise meditations on the chakras and psychic energies of the subtle body to bring about spiritual realisations and ultimately gain enlightenment. The major aspect of this process is to have a calm and steady mind, therefore as with all Buddhist practices, we refrain from taking intoxicants (recreational drugs, alcohol, etc.). This is to ensure that our mind, and our thought processes are not clouded, so that we can think straight and are able to function well enough to engage in the higher meditations and we have enough control of our minds to not engage in non-virtuous actions.

Now, our minds, the core of our very being cannot be destroyed, because we all have the potential to become a Buddha, an enlightened being. The information and memories from our previous lives are not stored in our subtle/astral body, but are contained within the mind. So even if something happens to our subtle body then our minds, and all the information, etc., is not destroyed or damage. Buddhists believe that at the time of death, even the subtle body dissolves back into the elements, and what actually moves on to the next life is the mind. It is not the subtle body. Therefore, this damage or destruction of the subtle body does not mean the end of the memories, or knowledge from previous lives. The way to access the mind, and through that, spiritual evolution is via a steady practice of meditation. The focus should not be on the subtle body, but the mind. We all need to develop a calm and stable mind to progress on the spiritual path.

Sometimes however, due to our physical form, this ability to calm the mind is not possible, due to whatever medical reasons. In these cases it is necessary for some people to be on medication that stabilises the mind so that a person can think properly. Therefore modern medicine does not conflict with spiritual evolution. Do not get me wrong, here I am talking to medicines that actually help people, not drugs which are damaging to a person’s mental health and wellbeing. If our bodies and gross minds are not well, we cannot focus on the internal mind and engage in the meditations necessary to calm the mind and evolve spiritually. The key here, is to work with the mind. I hope this helps.

    Thank you.

I have taken higher yoga empowerment almost 1 year to day… today my lama gave me his own personal vajra and and bell , his personal kapala and damaru as well as a silk mat which matched the color of the buddha i got during the flower toss on the five directional buddhas mandala…. what does this mean… am i even qualified to accept such items…. i feel as though i am good enough to even handle such blessed items

Pastor Niral Patel

    Dear Jason,

Thank you for posting your question. I am very happy to read that you have taken Higher Yoga Tantra empowerment. You should treasure the practice you have received as it is considered a very rare opportunity to really progress in your spiritual path towards enlightenment. Following your commitments to your lama, and the practice, as you would have taken during the empowerment is crucial to gaining results.

The tantric items you have received from your lama should be viewed as an extremely rare blessing. You should not feel bad, or un-qualified to have received them, in fact you should feel very honoured. After all, within tantric practice, we should view our lama as the Buddha, therefore to have his or her practice items is a very big blessing. That you feel that you are not qualified to accept such items, shows that you have great respect for your lama, but you have been given them so that means you should humbly accept them.

Depending on how they were given to you or what your lama said at the time of passing the holy items to you, you can either do two things. The first is to use them as objects to generate merit, as your lama would have used them, therefore you can treat them as the holy objects of your lama. The other, is to use them in your own practice, but this would depend on what you lama told you when he or she bestowed the items to you.

I cannot give you a definite answer to what it means, but it is definitely the case that your lama bestowed these items on you as a blessing for your practice. If you view the items as a blessing rather than thinking any other way, you are definitely going to benefit from receiving them. I hope this helps.

    Thank you

our property has a very bad spell of blackmagic or evil or bad or negative energy we have lost our parents also faced many financial problems I am unable to construct any thing in it

Pastor Niral Patel

    Dear Nithul,

Thank you for your question. I am very sorry to read that you and your family are going through this very tough situation at the moment. But rest assured that there are ways that you can be rid of the black magic and negative energy. Within Buddhism there are many methods to solve all of the problems we face in our lives.

I would like to suggest that you engage in the practice of Trakze. This specific deity is the wrathful form of Dorje Shugden, who is a great Dharma protector. He may look very scary but he has manifested in this way for a reason, and that is so that he can battle with the black magic and negative energies, and win. Therefore he manifests in this form out of his compassion and love for us.

You can find more information about Trakze and his practice here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/trakze-to-dispel-black-magic-spirits.html

Many people have benefited from this practice, especially those who suffer from very serious black magic and negative energy. The key to this practice is consistency. It’s just like when we meet a person for the first time, the more we spend time with them, the more we talk to them, the closer we get. In the end we become very good friends, and we know that they will always be there for us when we need their help. Similarly, our daily practice is also like this. The more we connect with Trakze, the more he will be able to help solve our problems. Please do read the above post, and if you have any further questions, then you are always more than welcome to ask here. I hope this helps, and you are soon free of your problems.

    Thank you.

Pastor Niral Patel

    Dear Rainbow,

Thank you for your very interesting question. The notion that the environment is made of up energies is correct, in as much as all of existence is made up of energies, known as the four elements. In certain areas, when these energies are not in harmony, the environment can be disturbed. While in others, when the energies are in harmony, the environment can be beneficial. So the theory that this can impact one’s life is definitely true. The tradition of Feng Shui is to find a location and house in which the energies are beneficial to those living inside of it.

However, the energies and powers of the enlightened Buddhas counter all of the negative effects of disharmonious energies in the environment, and bring about positive, harmonious and beneficial energies. There are many ways to invoke the energies of the Buddhas to ‘counter’ any negative energies and improve the Feng Shui in one’s house.

The two most effective are to have an altar to the Buddhas in your home, and the second is to have a wealth vase. In regards to altars to the Buddhas, when these are set up properly, with the correct representations of the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, then it will become an object that repels negative energies and attracts positive energies. What is best is to invite ordained monks or nuns, or those who know how to bless a house, to consecrate the altar/shrine and invite the Buddhas to reside there. Altars are actually a very good way to protect the house from unwanted beings, and negative energies of any kind.

The second way is to invite a wealth vase. These are fully consecrated and should not be touched with your bare hand. During the consecration process, the Buddhas are invited to send their energies into the vase, at which point they become very powerful magnets for the energy of wealth. Not only that, but they send out this positive energy into the environment, especially through the house/office/business they are placed in. Therefore they get rid of any negative Feng Shui in the house. You can invite a wealth vase in person from Kechara Paradise outlets or online here: https://www.vajrasecrets.com/wealth-vases. I hope this helps.

    Thank you.

Kohinoor

When will i get the love of my life?

Pastor Niral Patel

    Dear Kohinoor,

Unfortunately I do not have clairvoyance to answer your question. From a Buddhist perspective however, everything we go through in life is due to karma. Therefore whatever we receive or have in our lives, comes about through the power of karma. That being said, karma is not static and can be changed. Therefore if you so choose, you can transform yourself in a way to attract a partner, and you can put self effort into doing so. However, as the Buddha taught, our perceptions or desires to have something, are usually not what can happen in real life, because these thoughts are in the mind, and not in the physical world. Therefore we must be realisic in terms of what actually happens in life. I hope this helps, and you have luck in finding a relationship if that is what you choose.

Hi I have a table top prayer wheel at home and sometimes i twirl it clockwise and counter clockwise because I always get confuse in spinning it. Is it bad to twirl it counterclockwise?

Pastor Niral Patel

    Dear Bryan,

Thanks for your question. Prayer wheels usually have mantras written on them or are filled with mantras that face a certain way. They are usually arranged so that when you spin the prayer wheel clockwise, if you were looking at it, you would be reading the mantra the correct way. Usually they are made to be spun clockwise. When spinning them, it is said that the energies of the mantras are sent forth into the environment, sending blessings and the powerful energies of the mantra out so that yourself and others can benefit from their positive effects. Therefore they should be spun in a clockwise direction. That being said, if you spin it the wrong way, there is no negative consequences. Though some might think otherwise, this is not the case. This is because the enlightened deities only operate from enlightened compassion, there are no practices related to the Buddhas that harm others, their practice is only beneficial. Even though this is the case, as part of your own practice, and the development of mindfulness, you should try to train yourself to spin it in a clockwise direction. I hope this helps.

    Thank you.

Thomas

Dear pastors, I know mantras are good for healing of animals, and humans etc. My question is, are there any mantras or practices to increase plant growth, or to bless the enviroment of our gardens and property?

Pastor Niral Patel

    Dear Thomas,

Thank you for your question. The same mantras that are good for healing, are also very beneficial for blessing the environment, increasing plant growth, etc. For example the practice of the Medicine Buddha is primarily known for healing illnesses on a physical level. But the Medicine Buddha is powerful enough to heal our internal illness as well, by that I mean our inner emotional afflictions. This same mantra is excellent for blessing the environment, harmony and growth in all its forms. This is one of the many beneficial effects of the Medicine Buddha practice and mantra. In fact the Medicine Buddha is particular effective in blessing the environment, protecting from natural disasters, growth of plants, abundance of food, etc. There is even a practice of creating and consecrating large outdoor Medicine Buddha statues to calm and bless the environment. Actually this applies practice of creating large outdoor Buddha statues of any deity, and is to bless the environment, and all those who see or live near it, natural wildlife, crops, plants, etc.

Any mantras of the enlightened beings will necessarily have healing and blessing effects, but the degree to which this occurs at first may vary according to our own karma, and the primary activity of the mantra. For example, there are four types of enlightened activity:

Peaceful: these mantras are gentle and have a soothing and healing effect. Such mantras are the Medicine Buddha mantra, White Tara mantra, Green Tara mantra, and Shize Dorje Shugden mantra. These are primarily the most common mantras used for healing and blessing the environment.

Increasing: these mantras increase both our material and spiritual resources. They can also be used to help things grow, as they embody the enlightened energies of growth. Such mantras include Dzambala and Gyenze Dorje Shugden mantras.

Controlling: these mantras are used to control certain situations, and include the mantras of Kurukulle and Wangze Dorje Shugden.

Wrathful: these mantras, usually only practice or taught after tantric initiation, use the wrathful enlightened energies to aid others. For example the mantras of Yamantaka, or Trakze Dorje Shugden.

Therefore, although all the aforementioned the mantras are all based on the energies of the enlightened beings, their primary benefit would be slightly different. Likewise, Manjushri is known as the Buddha of wisdom, and Chenrezig is known as the Buddha of compassion. That is not to say that Manjushri’s mantra does not increase compassion, but that the primary function of the mantra is to increase wisdom. So, all the mantras of the enlightened beings can bless the environment, grow plants, etc.

It is due to this that some mantras are more effective at blessing the land, properties, gardens, and helping in the growth of plants. One of these is the mantra of Lama Tsongkhapa. This is known as the Mig Tse Ma mantra, and is extremely powerful, healing and yet full brimming full of energy. Here is the mantra:

    MIG-MEY TZE-WEY TER-CHEN CHENREZIG
    DRI-MEY KHYEN-PI WANG-PO JAMPAL YANG
    DU-PUNG MA-LU JOM-DZEY SANG-WEY DAG
    GANG-CHEN KE-PEY TSUG-GYEN TSONGKHAPA
    LO-SANG TRAG-PEY SHAB-LA SOL-WA DEB

You can hear a beautiful rendition of the mantra here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsJEWYnZgq4

Another very powerful mantra for blessing the land and increasing growth is the mantra of Gyenze Dorje Shugden. You can find a very informative blog post, which includes the mantra and practice of Gyenze here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/prayers-and-sadhanas/dorje-shugden-gyenze-to-increase-life-merits-and-wealth.html. I hope this helps.

S.Sonam

Dear Rinpoche and Pastors, I would like to know how to apply Kechara or Vajrayana principles to daily life.

We know we all have mascuiline and feminine energy, no matter what our gender is.
Some women have more masculine energy than others, and some men have a more developed feminine energy.

In Vajrayana, I know, please correct me if I am wrong, that we should develop ourselves to have both two energies and be full within ourselvers without the need to find feminine or masculine energy on other people.

Me and my wife practice traditional Vajrayana Sahanas. I see that her masculinity grew up very much, and my feminine energy grew up as well.
In daily life I am more in feminine energy than masculine. My wife is very penetrative while acting and speaking. She is very hard to me, and often I can't stand it.

Ultimately at home different stuff happen, broken electronics, also the shower breaks and the home gets flooded with water, also some finantial problems, car breaks, etc.

My wife says that it's mainly my fault, because I am not so masculine, and I don't have enough penetrative energy to stand and support her huge feminine energy. And this is why happen so many problems.

What's more sad is that she says that she needs a man that is more masculine, so that he feminine energy can turn on and she can go in surrender mode. And I can't provide it, and she doesn't feel safe.

My questions are:
-What I, or she can do to for it?
-Isn't it wrong to "need" the energy from other external people? Isn't it that in Vajrayana we should develop ourselves, and our masculine and feminine energies in such a way that we don't need a "more masculine man" or a "more feminine woman"?

For sure I need to work on my masculine energy. But what about her "need"?
What can I or she do to avoid her "need" for masculinity from me or other men?

Thanks in advance

Pastor Niral Patel

    Dear S. Sonam,

Thank you for your question. In Vajrayana meditations, although the energies of the body are classified as feminine and masculine, they do not necessary refer to our behavioural tendencies, but rather the energies of wisdom and bodhicitta (or compassion) that we all have within ourselves. For example, Anuttarayoga tantra is classified into two types: mother and father tantras. Therefore most people would assume that the mother tantras work at developing feminine qualities and that father tantras work at developing male tendencies. But this is simply a form of classification, based on the techniques emphasised.

Mother tantras focus on clear light meditations, whereas the father tantras focus on great bliss meditation or achieving the rainbow body. Therefore the tantras are not defined according to whether the central deity is male or female, neither are they defined by developing either male or female characteristics. They are defined by the meditation techniques that are emphasised.

Even within each tantra, when working with the winds, energies, and drops within the body, one does not increase either female or male qualities or characteristics, or bring them into some sort of harmony. Such characteristics are more likely from karmic imprints from previous lives, or how we were nurtured when growing up in this life. Therefore, if we don’t like a certain behaviour or tendency in our lives, we need to go against our karma and transform ourselves through our own effort.

In your situation, there is nothing meditational that you or your partner can achieve to solve these differences in terms of tantric practices. This sort of problem cannot be solved through Vajrayana meditation techniques, because they do not increase or change one’s female or male characteristics, rather they increase our wisdom and compassion, purify karma and generate merit, something that transcends the duality of male and female energy/characteristics altogether.

His Eminence the 25th Tsem Rinpoche has given a teaching before on the Ingredients for a Successful Relationship, which you can watch here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/students-friends/ingredients-for-a-successful-relationship.html. This is the teaching that I believe will give you the answers you are searching from. And yes, you are right, that it is wrong to ‘need’ energy from other people. This is not what the Buddha taught, rather he taught the path to real and beneficial transformation lies inside of oneself. And it is in that way, that we do not need to develop the male or female energy/characteristics but actually we need to increase our compassion and wisdom.

If you are having doubts or questions as to your Vajrayana meditational practices, you should humbly approach the guru whom you received the practice from to clarify your questions, in keeping with the practice of guru devotion. I hope this helps.

    Thank you.

Is this a relationship that will last and grow, or I am fooling myself ?

Pastor Niral Patel

    Dear Elena,

Thank you for your question. I’m sorry but I cannot give you a direct answer, as I do not have any clairvoyant ability. From an astrological perspective, you can check the general compatibility of yourself and your partner here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/horoscopes/the-chinese-zodiac.html

From a Buddhist perspective, relationships are something that we need work. There is nothing that is perfect, because perfection does not exist with the cyclic existence that is samsara. The notion or ideal of perfection is a construct of the mind. Therefore in order to make relationship last and grow, we need to put our own effort into them. This effort cannot be one-sided to make a relationship work, but must come from both side.

His Eminence the 25th Tsem Rinpoche has given a teaching on relationships, which is entitled “Ingredients for a Successful Relationship” and you can watch it here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/students-friends/ingredients-for-a-successful-relationship.html. 1. Pastor Niral Patel

    Dear Aleksandra,

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately none of us Kechara pastors have developed the ability of clairvoyance to be able to answer this question for you. Even though this is the case, if you want to return home, the Buddha taught us that we must improve our situation through our own efforts. So, you must examine the reasons that you left Kona, and how to get yourself back there, to your home. We all have karma, and for you this has manifested as being away from home. But karma is not fixed, therefore can be changed. Karma is changed through our own efforts. Coupled with this, you can engage in the practice of Dorje Shugden, who is a Dharma protector. This practice is excellent in removing obstacles in both our secular and spiritual lives. Therefore engaging in this practice, will make things easier for you to get home, coupled with your own efforts. I hope this helps.

Dave

Dear pastors,
Recently I started loving kindness meditation. First 2 days were great but 3rd day I started getting fearful scenatios play out in my mind and had to do deep breathing to calm myself down. And that night I had quite a bad dream.

It seems they are connected given the timing of the events but yet how can loving kindness give rise to all that horror?

Pastor Niral Patel

    Dear Dave,

Thank you for your question. What you are going through is actually a common experience that some people go through when engaging in meditation. This is nothing to be overly worried about as long as you continue your practice strongly. The reason this occurs is that meditation, because it deals with either calming the mind, investigating the nature of the mind, or generating virtuous qualities (such as loving kindness), goes against our usual samsaric conditioning, which is necessarily selfish. When we go against this conditioning, on a sub-conscious level, as things are shifting in the very core of our mind, these kind of situations can arise. There is nothing negative or full of horror about this, because it is actually the negative and ingrained tendencies fighting against the positive practice of meditation.

There are ways to overcome this. The first is to stop the practice when this situation occurs, and engage in deep breathing to calm the mind, as you did. The other is to engage in single-pointed concentration meditation at the beginning your session of loving kindness meditation. This will help calm the internal mind, and also make your practice more focused and stronger. Perhaps you can do this by focusing on your breathing. You do not concentrate on telling yourself to breathe in and out, rather you rest in the awareness that you are breathing, and you concentrate on it.

Another method you can use, is to engage in the meditation during daily prayers. For example you can start off with a Guru Yoga practice such as that of Lama Tsongkhapa, then engage in your meditation. Once you finish, you can engage in Dharma protector practice, which will help to remove unwanted obstacles, and finally complete your session with a completion dedication. This provides a much more rounded meditational experience, and turns your session into something that generates and seals a lot of merit.

You can find a commentary of Lama Tsongkhapa’s daily Guru Yoga practice here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/me/tsongkapas-daily-practice-video-commentary.html

And you can find the joint practice of the above together with the practice of the Dharma protector Dorje Shugden here: http://www.dorjeshugden.org/practice/diamond-path-a-daily-sadhana-of-dorje-shugden

I hope this helps. Do keep us informed of your meditational experiences.

    Thank you.

Dear Rinpoche and Pastors,

I'm studying abroad and very far away from home, seeking guidance and advice as I have no one else I can talk to about this. Please read with an open mind, I don't know where else to go for help.

I'm pregnant and it's an unplanned pregnancy. I'm stuck between keeping it or letting it go. I'm young and having a child at my age in the society we live in now would be considered taboo. The father of the child thinks I should let it go because it may cause a setback to both our careers and cause major family issues. He thinks we aren't ready to raise a child especially since we're both still in university and his parents think badly of me even though they've never met me or tried to get to know me. I'm sure no one would ever have the heart to take away a heartbeat but it seems like it isn't the right time to have a child now and if we did go through with it, the child probably won't be able to have the best things life can offer looking at where we are now in terms of finance and maturity.

I'm lost, confused and unsure what the right thing to do is now. Any advice at all would be helpful right now. Thank you so very much for taking time to read my story.

    Dear Ronnie,

I’m sorry to read that you are going through this situation. I can understand that this situation is tough to go through. You are always more than welcome to come here to ask questions. May I suggest that you talk to either someone in your family or your friends to help you come to an appropriate solution? This is because, what you feel, what you are going through, will change from time to time and you would need someone to talk to, someone that you can lean on through this situation you are facing. Depending on where you are in the world, professional help can also be sought to help you make a decision, which will be the best option for you seeking help.

From a Buddhist perspective, the taking of a life is not considered a positive act, therefore those on the Buddhist path, would normally abstain taking a life if possible. However, that being said, one must always weigh the decision oneself. Everything we do in life, necessarily involves karma both positive and negative. That is why Buddhists try to overcome samsara in general.

Your situation is complicated because you are abroad, but if possible you should really open up to someone you are close to in order to help you through making this decision on a personal basis. When you talk to someone, whom you are able to express yourself more, you may able to come to better decision that is right for you.

There may be other options open to you if you seek help. I personally know women who have been in similar situations. One of these women, let the child go and the other went through the pregnancy and then gave the child up for adoption. You may or may not have thought of this option, but it is one that could be open to you, depending on where in the world you are. Any decision we make in life, however big or small it may seem, has far reaching consequences whether in this life, or in future lives. This is just a part and parcel of life within samsara. However, we should weigh the decisions we make clearly given the situation we are in. We cannot always do this weighing ourselves, but need to talk about our options with others we can rely on such a friends, family or professionals. You should consider doing this, which will help you greatly emotionally, and may give you the grounding you need to make the correct decision for you. I hope this helps.

What is a nyung ne practice? According to Lama Zopa Rinpoche, it's a purification sadhana. However, what are the instructions for this? I'm guessing it's to Chenrezig, but how does it work? Also, from what I have read, Vajrasattva practice is only for broken vows while Akshobhya is for regular misdeeds. Does that mean one has to take the Akshobhya practice to purify bad karma from this life and previous instead of Vajrasattva? As for the purification practices, are some like Vajrasattva and Chenrezig only to purify the bad karma and let it come quickly or is it to prevent it from coming? I am confused in it. As for signs, I recited a mantra of White Yangchenma that a Sakya lama, Lama Kunga Thartse Rinpoche, gave me with the Sakya visualizations I read on, and after one mala, I heard some lady call my Korean name even though no one in my neighborhood knows of my name and my family members weren't in the area. What does this mean?

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Dear Dongho,

Thank you for your questions, it’s nice to see you back here again. Nyung Ne practice is a purification practice that centres around Chenrezig. It is a very beneficial practice that stems from a holy nun named Gelong-ma Palmo. It is a two and a half day practice that can be repeated many times over and over again to intensify the purification and build a closer relationship with Chenrezig. As well as its purification aspect, the practice is known to generate vast amount of merit, and also compassion, as the practice centres around Chenrezig, the Buddha of compassion. The practice involves taking the eight Mahayana precepts for the duration, fasting, meditating, prostrating and praying. The practice usually entails empowerment into the practice of Chenrezig, therefore the exact meditations, prayers can only be explained to those who have the empowerment.

Vajrasattva practice is not necessarily only for repairing broken vows, etc. That’s why it is advised that you engage in the practice at the end of the day, to repair any vows that you may have broken during that day, as well as stopping any negative karma you created that day from multiplying. This would entail reciting the mantra 21 times, together with the four opponent powers. However, if you engage in this practice more intensely, it definitely has the capability to purify all sorts of karma. That is the reason why in Ngondro, or preliminary practices one engages in before tantra, the practice of 100,000 Vajrasattva mantra recitation is an integral part. You can read more about Vajrasattva and his practice here: https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/prayers-and-sadhanas/an-important-purification-practice.html.

Within purification practices, some of the karma will be purified completely, so you do not feel its effects at all, but when purifying other karma you will need to feel its effects somehow. For example if you have the karma to be in a car accident and get seriously injured, and you are engaging in any practice, but especially the purification practice, since you have purified most of the karma, you will only experience being in a very minor car accident, with only very superficial injuries. Therefore, in this case, the karma has been purified to the extent that it does not affect you as much, but you still need to feel part of its effect.

In regards to any signs that you receive which engaging in the practices given to you by one of your specific gurus, you should report the happenings to that particular guru. He will be able to give you more of an accurate answer, as it may be related to the particular practice that he gave to you. I hope this helps.

    Thank you.

Dear Pastors, When a serkyem set has been used so much and one is ready to get rid of it and replace it with a new one. What is a respecful mode of disposal?

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Dear Thomas,

Thank you for your question. Your question shows that you have a lot of respect for offering items, which is very good. If possible, you should try to repair the item if within your means, and doing so make embellishments to make it a better offering item, which can still be used.

If this is not possible, then you should dispose of the item with a good motivation. You should think that this item has been used to make offerings to the enlightened beings, but now that it is broken or unusable, you are going to dispose of it, and replace it with a new one. Since it itself is not a receptacle of energies of the enlightened beings, such as a statue, tsa tsa or thangka, it does not require a special dissolution before being disposed of. However since it was used to make offerings, it still requires some form of respect when disposing, and this comes from one’s motivation and the way in which you dispose of it.

Usually, when disposing of items in this way, make the motivation that you have used it and that it is now time to dispose of it, and replace it with a new one. When you do this you can dispose of it in a respectful manner. For example, if you are going to throw it away, you do not simply open the trash can and throw it in. You wrap it up in something, like a bag or newspaper and dispose of it respectfully. Another method you can dispose of it is to recycle the object, if the material it is made from can be recycled. That way you are more conscious of the environment as well. I hope this explanation helps.

    Thank you.

Curious

Dear pastors
In a recent youtube video something like paying respect to deceased ones, pastor Nirel Patel explained that merits are like the interest and good karma is like the principal sum. So merits always regenerate themselves and hence do not get used up but good karma is like the principal sum so it gets used up.

So my question is what are practices that generate merit? And can we turn a mundane daily activity into a meritorious one? Maybe can you provide an example?

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Dear Curious,

Thank you for your question. First, to clarify a point, in regards to good karma, you are right, it is like a principal sum in a bank account, but you take away from it when you experience something good in your life, and you add to it when you do good deeds.

Merit on the other hand, once accrued never diminishes, therefore when something is based on merit, it is based on the energies of this never diminishing sum, which you could say is like interest. In short, the principal sum when talking about karma is always added to and subtracted from. However, when talking about merit, once you have it, there is no way to destroy it, you will always benefit from it.

There are various ways to explain how to generate merit. I will explain a way that I find easiest to understand. In normal life, when we go about performing any sort of activity, be it ‘good’ or ‘bad’ we do so out of ignorance of the true nature of existence, and it is usually self-motivated. For example, we work our entire lives to generate monetary income, so that we have enough money, resources, and materials goods to be comfortable. This is self-motivated, but it is the accepted way the world works these days, and is part and parcel of being bound to samsaric life.

On the other hand, the act of merit making can be categorised into three parts: i) motivation, ii) the act itself, and iii) dedication. Let’s start with motivation, when engaging in various virtuous acts, we should have the motivation that by engaging in the act, we have the motivation to alleviate the suffering of someone else, and that may we gain enlightenment so that we can benefit them in the future. The second is the act itself. The third is to dedicate the energy of the virtuous act to gaining enlightenment. These three are what make merit.

This may be a little confusing, so let me give an example: giving help to a homeless person. Whereas in ordinary life, this is something praised as a very good deed, it does not create merit without motivation and dedication. In order for this to become merit, one must set the motivation that one is giving help to the homeless free of the eight worldly concerns, to alleviate their suffering and also making the motivation that you will achieve enlightenment for the sake of the person or people you are helping. Then after you have helped them, you dedicate the energy created to the spiritual journey towards full enlightenment to help all sentient beings, while at the same time benefiting as many sentient beings as possible on the way there. This transforms the act into not only a virtuous action but also one that generates merit.

On the other hand, if you were to help the homeless without these, you are creating good karma, which although beneficial, keeps you bound to existence within samsara. As it is the goal of Buddhist practice to overcome the cycle of samsara, a Buddhist would want to generate merit instead of good karma. I hope this explanation helps.

    Thank you.

提问者 D.A.

If Begtse Chan is not from Mongolia, what are his real origins or story exactly? And which lamas offer his empowerment? As for Manjushri Nagarakshasa, which lamas specifically offer his empowerment and practice?

  1. 提问者 pastor

    Dear D.A.

Thank you for your question. Begtse, is also known as Chamsing, or Jamsaran in Mongolian. As mentioned in an earlier sharing with someone who also asked a question about Begtse, the practiced was introduced to Tibet from India by the translator Nyen Lotsawa, and is considered one of the main protectors of the Hayagriva cycle of tantras.

According to the scriptures that derive from the Sakya tradition, who incorporated the practice from the translators, and in which tradition Begtse became a very important protector, Begtse in a previous life was born many eons ago. In that particular life, he was born as the younger prince in a royal family. His name was Drag Gye, and his older brother’s name was Drag Den. Over time both princes developed differing religious beliefs, to the point where they could not get along with each as they both held their own religious views strongly.

As was the custom during that time, they decided to settle their differences through logical debate, with the loser having to convert to the winner’s religion. This custom was also prevalent in ancient India, and there are many stories of such debates occurring between the great masters of the past and those of other faiths. Drag Gye lost the various debates, but ran away instead of converting to his older brother’s religion. Drag Den caught him, and tried to punish him for breaking the rules of debate and going back on his promise.

Drag Gye told his brother that even if he was killed he would not give up his religion, however if Drag Den let him go, that in the future when Drag Den became enlightened, he would protect his teachings. With that Drag Den let him go, and gave him a set of copper armour, a stick, and a bow and arrow. Drag Den also gave Drag Gye a new name: Sog Dag Yam Shi Mar Po. After this incident the two brothers never saw each other again in that lifetime.

Many lives after that Drag Den was reborn as Prince Siddharta, who eventually became enlightened and is now known as Buddha Shakyamuni. Drag Gye, or Sog Dag Yam Shi Mar Po, was reborn in a cemetery in the North West direction. His parents gave birth to two eggs, one was a coral-like colour and the other was an agate-like colour. These two eggs flew high into the sky and reached the heavenly realms, there they subdued the gods. Then flying back down to earth, they subdued many nagas. Eventually they even came to threaten their own parents.

The parents petitioned the Dharma protector Ekajati for her help, who threw her own staff (khatvanga) at the eggs, and broke them apart. From the coral-like coloured egg came a ferocious man with yellow hair, he proclaimed that his name was ‘Sog Dag Yam Shi Mar Po’. When he emerged he was wearing a set of copper armour, wielding a stick, copper sword, and a bow and arrow. From the agate-like coloured egg came a female who was blue in colour, her teeth were like shells, she had turquoise eyebrows, and her hair was made of fire. She emerged wielding a copper knife, ritual dagger (phurba), rode a terrifying bear and wore an intricate necklace made of agate and lapis lazuli. It was then that Ekajati once again took action, and subdued them, after which they became Dharma protectors. The male figure became known as Begtse, and the female as his sister. When you propitiate Begtse, his sister is automatically included and aids practitioners as well.

As for which lama offer his practice and empowerment, most lamas do not advertise which teachings or practice they hold. Therefore you should respectfully approach lamas and ask them if they have the practice and can bestow it, or if they know of any lamas that have the practice, depending on how much you want to practice Begtse.

Similarly, this applies to those lamas who have the practice of Manjushri Nagarakshasa. However, this practice is included in the Rinjung Gyatsa series of empowerments. This unique cycle of teachings, includes all 4 classes of tantric practices, and includes the practice of Manjushri Nagarakshasa. Therefore those lamas who have received the complete transmission, and have kept their commitments for this practice, are qualified to pass this on to others.

I hope this explanation helps. Thank you.

欲知详情,请联系 house@kechara.com

世界各地读者对“There’ s No Way But Up”一书的热烈反应推动黎国圆继续撰写其他著作,包括尼泊尔朝圣指南《Vajrayogini and other Power Places in Nepal》(金刚瑜伽母及尼泊尔其他圣地)、短篇故事集《Tales My Lama Told Me》(上师告诉我的那些传说)以及关于情感关系的《Conversations in Love》(亲密对话)。

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer

Tormas are regularly being changed. It's solely the commitments from one of our dedicated members, Choong Soon Heng. Without him, we would not have gathered an abundance of merits. Thanks! Kechara Penang Study Group by Jacinta.

It's been a while since our last update. When KFR was busy organising, serving & helping visiting monks together with their chunks of activities in Bentong, back here in Penang, our small but sturdy Penang Study Group has been consistently having their weekly Dorje Shugden Puja @ every Saturday at 3 pm. Here's one update, completed on 6th September 2025. Kechara Penang Study Group by Jacinta.
