Question asked by JM
How do we interpret dreams? I've dreamed of H.H. Penor Rinpoche holding my hands (i was a small baby) and guiding through out some places. We forget many of the incidents occurred in dreams, but that dream, it was hard to keep my mind off. I shared with my mom and she told me it might be a sign of good fortune or good news, or may be I'm going in a right spiritual path, I don't know. Even last night, I saw myself plowing a land that was hard like rock and I was actually successful in plowing, later I plowed garlic on it. Well, our Gurus do not encourage us to consume garlic since it's a veggie too, but I don't know the reason why it is forbidden. Back to the topic, is the dream that we dream of has any meaning? such as in other religion like Islam, if anyone dreams of white or green color or they dream of smiling faces, they are said to hear good news or let's say, the positive and negative emotions in their dream help them to take a decision (during confusions, job selection, groom selection, etc etc). So, my point is should we believe in dreams? Do they have meanings too? If they have, how are we going to interpret? Is there any mantra to find out if the decision we are going to take or have taken is right? (Like in Islamic religion)
Hi JM,
I am not qualified to explain about the phenomena of dreams.I have read that for those who have mastered the yoga of sleep, dreams can be very helpful in developing realizations. For most of us ,its biggest drawback is that we can’t recall most of it, hence the struggle to piece together the little we remember leads to confusion , prone to misinterpretation and hence unreliable.
Personally, I would not waste too much time figuring out the dream questions and get on with a basic practice which we can understand and follow. Since you have a Guru, it is best you ask him and just follow his advice.
