The video below (in 3 parts) is a documentary about ghosts/places that has been captured on camera. During the 1950’s (and 60’s), they didn’t have Photoshop, photo editing tools on the computer or fancy SLRs that had many functions – all they did was shoot and capture. Ghost photographers have explained that they are able to capture ghosts on film because light and energy (unseen to the naked eye) can be captured on film.
The biggest manipulation that could have been done at that time was by doing double-exposures…this is where you’d take one photo and then take another photo on top of the previous one, which automatically gets superimposed. A lot of skeptics accused many photographers, who claimed to have taken photos of ghosts, to be using this tactic. However, in the video you will see experts differentiating the fakes…and the real photos.
There is one man however, Ted Serios, who in 1966 proved under tightly controlled experiments something quite unheard of. Ted Serios would stare straight into the camera’s lens (whilst holding onto the camera), close his eyes tightly shut…an independent photographer then waits for a moment and then snaps a photo. His intense concentration produces images on film, of places that he has never seen before. All he does is to look into the camera lens and concentrate! This method is called “Thoughtography”.
Although he was known to be a drunkard and a little bit…off, his photos was never proved to be fake or himself as a fraud. Whenever he was so sure that he had gotten the image in his head onto the photo successfully, he’d snap his fingers and say “I got it this time!”…and he was very, very sure.
Do watch the video…It’s very interesting, especially if you don’t believe it’s true…I find it totally enthralling…Ghosts definitely exist and many can see them. But photography of them is very interesting…Proof.

In this video, the double exposure if the film is debatable whether the camera has captured a ghost or it is manmade film. But as what Buddha mentioned, this world has 6 realms and 1 of the realm is Ghost realm, so no doubt that ghost does exist and they are among us, just that we don’t see them. I didn’t experience it myself, but many people that I know has some paranormal experiences.
There are some explanations here made by Rinpoche regarding about ghost

Anything mysteries will be of my interest as I do believe there is . They do exist after all and its only can be seen by certain people . Having captured on camera sounds interesting. I have seen some pictures then where it can clearly see those wandering ghost. Ghosts accidently captured by amateur photographer has proven that they do exist. Some do not realised till later , after looking at those pictures taken by them. I have read stories and seen pictures of ghost been captured by famous photographer such as William Hope, a premiere pioneer, William Mumleran an experienced and enthusiastic amateur photographer and a few others with interesting stories behind it.
I did captured one by accident during my Tibet pilgrimage at one of the monastery. Interesting video to watch.
Thank you Rinpoche for this interesting sharing.
You did!? Can share with us here?
Haunted story is not something new, it happens every day and every where. Some people can see the unseen beings, some can feel them. Some unseen beings are harmless, they just hang around in the area but don’t do anything. Some are angry spirits, they will make sure we know of their existence by creating disturbances like moving things around in the house or even touch us.
For Buddhists, when we encounter with a negative entity, we don’t really chase it away but we do prayers to send compassion energy to them. This is to help them to release their anger so they can let go and take a better rebirth. When we do the prayers, we are also asking the Buddha to protect us from harm.
In general, we can do Dorje Shugden practice for protection. There are also some special prayers that we can do to protect us from spirit disturbances such as Singdoma, Dukkar or Dorje Shugden Trakze practice. Apart from doing the practice ourselves, we can also engage Kechara Puja house to do the pujas on our behalf.
Ghost or spirits definitely exist and I do believed that. I have heard stories of ghost been captured in the photograph. Those days my mother used to tell me never take pictures in jungle and in the cemetery. At that time I do not understand much till much later. Watching those video is interesting , ghosts been captured on film. Investigators believe they have proved ghosts really exist after capturing on pictures. All these incredible videos will stimulate the interest of everyone who sees them.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing .
This is a very interesting topic. It seems since long time ago, people had dug into this research and topic about ghost hunting. Until today, with the improved technology of the image capture tools, people even set up cameras, cam, to even capture video and footage of spirit/ghost. In my life, I had never seen a real photo or picture that captured ghost, all are seen from the internet. But I believe as an invisible being and appear as an energy, it can be captured in camera. I even seen from TV, the ghost hunting group used equipment to capture spirit/ghost speech. With the technology we have, and it is going to improve, everything is possible.
It is an interesting topic and many debate on if it is possible to take a picture of ghosts. In the end some believe and some don’t. What is important is to learn about ghosts and how they become a ghost. In Buddhism we learn that we can take a good rebirth which means either as a human being, or in a god or demi-god realm. Yet, ghost go through immense suffering as they took rebirth in the lower realms because of their attachments and negative qualities. Other lower realms according to Buddha’s teachings, are being born as an animal or in one of the hot or cold hells.
We should focus on the causes of taking this rebirth and how we can avoid it. Here is an overview on the Lamrim which is a recommended read in our tradition. http://resources.tsemtulku.com/lamrim/overview-of-the-lamrim.html
Here is another link with the must read books recommended by H.E.the 25th Tsem Tulku Rinpoche https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/buddhas-dharma/books-that-are-a-must-read.html
An interesting blog topic really. Was particularly curious how would cameras be able to capture images of spirits while can’t be seen with a naked eye. It could be because of reflection of lights that is subject to debate.
Spirits / Ghosts are everywhere and just that some of us can and some of us cannot see it. Some of us can also feel their presence too. Ghost appearing in photograph is not a uncommon thing. I have seen it with my own eyes too. What I find interesting about this article is Ted Serios. I really can’t imagine how the image in his mind can be captured on a camera. This is something that I have never come across before.
Myself and my family has gone through experience staying in a haunted house. We heard sound and seen things moving but can’t see anyone there. The only person seen it is my brother described that is a round white big face. We tried many ways to ask them to leave but not successful and at last we decided to move out because we can’t stand “all these being” came out at daytime to disturb us.
The existing ghosts in photograph, I think it may be good and bad. For the good point was it appeared in photograph may sign seek for help in searching or solving their mystery disappearing or death. Besides, certain people with different aura or energies may easily click with them or in Tibetan Buddhism, we say is karma related. What I believe, spirits are harmless. As long as we keep close to our Guru’s samaya and practice compassion to all sentient beings, even a malevolent spirit can be subdued.
Today, ghost photography remains an important tool for paranormal researchers because access to affordable cameras allows even the newest investigator to capture and view paranormal activity. There are many ghost hunter out there with bunch of equipment to capture ghost such as IR cameras, thermal cameras, full spectrum cameras, non-digital cameras (film type) and etc. It may be an exciting work or activity but it can be dangerous at the same time as those being are unseen and we may offend them without us knowing it.
In whatever circumstances it’s always important to have protection for ourselves. In Tibetan Buddhism we believe in protector practice such as Dorje Shugden. It’s important for one to have this practice for protection and provide conducive condition in our spiritual journey. Respect is another important aspect we should adhere as all being have feeling too.
As a believer in ghosts, I believe that images of ghosts can be captured on film. I’ve heard that while most people can’t see ghosts, there are some who can. They are commonly referred to as the one with the third eye. Then there are some people who can hear the cries of ghosts and these people can communicate with ghosts/spirits. For the lesser sensitive people they can feel the presence of such entities. For the most of us, like me, we are blind, deaf and feelingless like dead wood. But that doesn’t make anyone better or powerful than the other. For those who are more sensitive and who want to stop seeing, hearing and feeling these unseen energies, they can request for help – I have witnessed H.E. Kyabje Tsem Rinpoche sealed off the chakras of some people and they were given some Buddhist practices to further cement the chakras. The catch here is that people have to commit and do the practices as instructed to get good results.
Now I know the techniques people used to manipulate the photos. But what I find interesting is the man who can concentrate and make the photos turn out the way he thought of it although it was blur. I wonder if there are others out there who can do the same now.
Nowadays, one can search for many videos of spirits/ghosts captured on CCTVs or mobile phones but you can only guess whether it’s real or just hoax. Some of videos captured on traffic CCTVs look very real and scary at the same time.
We are all beings living in the same samsara. People with third eye can see ghosts and communicate with them. Ghosts living in a tremendous suffering space where they are trapped with their strong attachment. Believing their existence reminded me everyday about our precious human life. It’s very importance and fortunate for us to meet the precious Guru and holy dharma every life times so that we are safe from the 3 Lower realms.
May I never be parted from my Guru Wen Dharma in my every life times.

Dear Rinpoche, although I know that these photos is impossible to be Photoshop or edited during that time. But in the second video, the fairies in the pictures looks like it was being drawn or photoshop. It’s just too hard to explain it. And I also do not understand why wouldn’t people believe that there are spirits all over the world? There are so many stories about them, and people still think that we make up stories.
I think being a ghost is just another state that our consciousness can become due to certain conditions. A Ghosts is just a another energy form I think and since energy cannot be destroyed why can a person turn into a ghost, it is merely transforming from a physical state to a non solid state.
Too bad ghosts can be proven by scientific methods currently, its no the fault of the ghosts it is just science do not have the right methods yet.
I wonder if Ted could have projected his thoughts into other people’s mind !
I will request Jeffrey Gan to show you an apparition that he has captured on camera while he was staying at a hotel in China. Are you ready?
Hi.. ide just like to drop a few comments here on the subject of ghosts caught on camera. I am always very sceptical whenever i see images or film footage of ghosts. Especially when the ghosts in the films are fully clothed? How or where do they get their clothing from? seeing as clothing is not living phenomena and without consciousness, how does it go over to the otherside with the deceased? well there is probably a perfect and reasonable explanation for this. but im certainly no expert on ghostly goings on.so im not quite sure what the explanation is? anyone any ideas?
